My BF and I visited her tonight for the first time and everything was wonderful! The place was spotless , the seating was very comfortable , Eddie our server was so perfect! Now let’s talk about the food …. I had the hibachi shrimp with steamed rice and veggies and he had the Main Street boil… YUM!!!!! We live about 30 minutes away and we will definitely be back .
Food was perfect, atmosphere was great and loved sitting on the patio! Our server was the best part of our experience. Edy was very attentive and kind. I believe he said this was his first week here in either Ohio, restaurant or both but you wouldnt know it, he was great! We will be back mainly because of him We were lucky enough to be able to take a few moments of his time to hear about him. Good luck in Ohio Edy! :) Thanks again!
Sushi was awesome because it came fast and had a lot of flavor. I then received my soup and salad. Soup was 5 star! Salad needed stronger ginger taste but lettuce was fresh so no negative. The filet was good price and tasted very good. My wife got the chicken and steak and that was outstanding too!Seated fast!!!!!!!Service fast!!!!!!
Very cool dinning experience. Joselyn, our waitress, was very helpful in guiding us to find food and drinks that met our taste. Was really an added benefit of our visit.Lump crab and seafood Mac and cheese had a very distinct taste. Almost like a seafood casserole. Really enjoyed it and was fairly priced.Kobe bay seafood broil has a variety of foods and flavors. Since it’s seafood prices are seasonal and it was a little over priced based on the amount of food. Taste was great. The only real let down was the desert. It looked delicious but for a lava cake it was a different take. The cake part was good. Had chocolate syrup on the outside as pictured and very little in the center. Usually like lava cake with a good amount of chocolate.
Confused by the description on line of the cuisine, the decor of the resturant and the menu items. Looks like an Asian restaurant inside but serves a limited number of other unrelated food choices. Foods was meh... ribs were overcooked and coleslaw was horrible, it was spicy. The sides serving sizes were a disappointment. My Marine Boil looked great, but wasnt seasoned well, just tasted like oil on seafood. I had to add salt packets. It took waaay too long for us to get seated and to get our food after our appetizers.Deserts were good. The Calamari, Bangkok Bsng Shrimp and pulled pork nachos were EXCELLENT!Change your description on the net. NO hibachi here
Got an order through Uber and my food was gross. The fried rice was more plain than fried. The fish on my sushi was not fresh. I asked for extra soy sauce and none was included. The bang bang shrimp wasnt banging. It was plain fried shrimp, obviously out of a freezer bag and pre-breaded. No sauce was included. Ordered potstickers, which was the only good thing in my order but that sauce was not included. Highly disappointed. Will not be ordering again.
It was alright, we were seated a little too close to the live entertainment for me. I couldnt even have a normal conversation with my date. We couldnt hear each other so we just gave up and started texting. The chick singing was likable, but she was singing and playing a guitar so it was super loud in my opinion. Also no sushi or hibachi the menu was weak!
My husband and I had a very good experience. Our 1st time visiting this establishment. The food was very good. The service was ok. They were short on help so it took awhile before we could be seated. They had Some Open tables but not enough people to serve. Then I had to go back up because they forgot about us. Our waitress forgot one of our waters, not sure how, I even asked her again when she brought one. Needless to say while we were eating, we had to ask someone walking by for water that we hadnt gotten yet. We didnt get the side of shrimp that was ordered with the boil. So we just told her never mind. I will be interested in going again, maybe another time when their not short on help. Like u said the food was very good.
Excellent dining with an amazing view. The atmosphere in this place is wonderful. It is a great place to take guests from out of town and give them a tour of the docks and especially this restaurant. We called ahead and then we were able to reserve a table without any hassle. The hostess was very nice and we were seated quick. Overall it is a great menu selection and for the price you really cant beat it. I went with a dinner party of seven people and we all had an excellent time.
Have always enjoyed sitting at the bar, the bartenders have always been lovely. Also, the 1/2 off sushi on Tuesday and Thursdays isnt a bad twist to this already good vibing venue. Once the renovations are finished, I cant wait to sit here enjoying some live music and this new dance floor theyre putting together.
The Bay restaurant was terrible. First, they were unorganized at the front door. 2nd, when I bought my tickets it was not advertised that if you wanted to sit down you would have to pay extra for a table. 3rd I ordered wings and fries and they were cold when they were given to me. 4th Donnell Jones didnt come out to perform until 12pm and he sounded terrible the sound system was all messed up it was so loud that I left ten minutes after Donnell started to perform. The stage was small and I couldnt see anything. I definitely will not be patronizing The Bay restaurant and Night club ever again. It was definitely not worth my time or money. I was truly disappointed.
This is a great place for the perfect date night. The ambiance is beautiful we sat at a table with a wonderful view of the river and the downtown Toledo skyline. The food was amazing from appetizer to dessert. I recommend the cast iron hibachi chicken, spicy salmon roll, and raspberry cheesecake. The salmon roll was absolutely delicious and the cheesecake was so light and creamy. To top it off our server was awesome. He made sure we had a perfect evening. I can’t wait to come back again and I am really looking forward to enjoying dinner and drinks on that beautiful patio on a nice summer night. This restaurant is definitely a local gem.
Me and my boyfriend drove from Michigan. To see Donell Jones, we paid for the ticket online weeks before. The tickets stated the started at 9pm. The night of the concert we decided to get to the club early so we can eat. When we arrived it was raining, and a line out the door. We had to stand in line for 1hour and a half getting rained on. Staff was drunk letting their friends in. By 940 they decided to only let VIP in. Staff was rude by 10pm they let us in and had to stand. Very unprofessional!!!
Our server was top notch and very helpful with recommendations. The poor fellow was working like crazy, as staff was short. He genuinely wanted us to enjoy our first time there. I do highly recommend the Bang Bang Shrimp appetizer! Overall, a good experience, will return. And of course the viewable the Docks is pleasant in the evening.
It can be better. The music should be more varied. different rhythms. The cover should include some drinks. The tables could be better organized. Needs more security when entering. Zero Drugs. In addition to the drinks being expensive.
Great experience. This was our first time at Kobe. We were looking for good sushi for my daughters birthday and we decided to give this place a try. A very nice atmosphere. Live music. A wonderful experience with the staff, who went out of their way to make my daughters birthday experience a great one. All in addition to good food. A great experience overall, and we will be back!
What a dump ! Only reason its getting 2 stars is because the views of the river are amazing . First lets start with the waitress I dont think you can get much more unprofessional than she was using the F-bomb multiple times and doing shots with other customers our appetizers came the same time as our dinner and was never asked if I wanted another drink . The food was cold probably from the waitress not grabbing it on time ( FYI there were only 10 people in the whole restaurant so wasnt because she was busy ) and the food was not good at all Ive had better sushi at 7/11 and the steak was horrible. I would not recommend going here at all for the price you can get a way better meal and experience somewhere else .
Best sushi in town for fair pricing. The hibachi was also super delicious! We got veggie hibachi and the rice and veggies were cooked perfectly. I highly recommend the dragon roll. The docks all have a great view of the river and city, as well. Definitely a great date night spot!
We had a Wonderful time..Right outside of there establishment by the Water we Committed our Vows to one Another Forever...We decided to patronize this certain Restaurant because it was convenient...But that was the best decision we could have done..The staff embraced us with So many Congrats and Genuine 😊 Joy for Us...The food was Simply Amazing calamari..🍣 sushi ..shrimp...salmon was Perfect the best choice we could have madeOur server brought us a Special Drink that was the best way to Celebrate 🍾 ..We Thank you so Much and will return Soon
Drove up to Toledo for Valentine’s Day with my friends and came to Kobe for dinner. The food was amazing, I got the hibachi, and it came in super huge portions! The sushi was also really good and you could taste that it was freshly made! The staff was all very nice and attentive. They forgot a few things at first, like straws and sauce, but it was a busy night and they quickly fixed all the problems. 10/10 experience and I definitely want to come back for their half-off sushi days!!
So thrilled we chose to dine here on vacation, it was fabulous. The overall atmosphere and view of the river was awesome. The shrimp and calamari appetizers with their unique sauces were some of the best we have ever eaten. Our main courses of bbq ribs/brisket and seafood pasta were beyond delicious. Plus our server Monique R was fantastic, she is the best. Highly recommend!
Ate at Kobe Bay for The first time yesterday. We had awesome service and the food was great! We did not wait long for our food once it was ordered. Eddie was our server and he was so kind and showed the kids how to use chopsticks. We will definitely return! We took our boat and docked right outside the restaurant which was really convenient as well .
Beautiful restaurant, cozy, and homey vibes. Our waitress was very friendly and sweet. The man I believe was the owner or manager was very nice. Me and my friends really enjoyed the sushi and hopefully will be coming back to try the mac n cheese! Its rare to find hospitality like this these days.
We went here because Real Seafood had too long of a wait. I was a little leery because it wasn’t very busy and honestly it felt like the menu had a lot going on - for example it had some other types of cuisine from other countries and generally I’ve found mixed type menu places do all of it badly. This was not the case here at all. It was really tasty. Our service was attentive, the view was awesome, and the food was great. The bill was also about $60 less than I was estimating with the amount of food and drinks we had, so honestly I was very pleased with the pricing too. Our waitress (Joana?) was delightful.
Food is great. Hibachi chefs were entertaining but only the first time. It is always the same performance. Very pricey. My only real complaint is that my kids stole all my scallops. I will have to go back without them if I want a full meal.Edit: I take it back. Performance was even better the next time I went. Didnt let the kids near my scallops this time and they were delicious. Upgraded to 5 stars!
Incredible experience! We had an amazing family diner! Food was great, atmosphere was gorgeous, just an all around good time! We had some minor concerns with our food, and they were quick to take care of them. We barely mentioned it and they went out of their way to fix any problem we had. 10/10 would 100% recommend!
Service was decent. Had an upbeat attentive waiter who brought exactly what we asked for, and was willing to receive our input.Concerning the food, I found it bland and tasteless. Rice was mushy and over cooked. The tea lacked flavor as well, -besides a very odd almost moldy taste, which wouldn’t surprise me honestly if the kitchen is as well kept, as the food is prepared. The way you do some things, is the way you do everything!I was disappointed to discover that the only decent thing served was a sauce which was probably just a prepackaged/bottled sauce this location uses. We were drowning the meat and veggies in sauce just to make them edible, and get something out of the $60 we spent for this subpar experience.Making it in the restaurant industry is hard, especially in this political and economic climate. I hope that they get their act together. The views are beautiful, and I don’t like to see anyone go out of business.I won’t be back, but I hope that they get their ducks in a row before the worst happens.
Best service I’ve ever had in my entire life. Miles was my server and I absolutely adored him. The entire staff was phenomenal, so incredibly friendly. The food was amazing, they even have a celebrity barbecue chef! I will definitely be going back as often as I can because I am in love with everything about this place!!!! ❤️
Our kids were here from out of state. We wanted to take them down to the waterfront restaurant area for a different look at Toledo. They choose Kobe Bay to try out. We were pleasantly surprised. The choice of specialty drinks were great. Our waitress recommended the Bam Bam Shrimp as an appetizer.... it was awesome. I had the lobster ravioli and it was delicious. The service was good and everyone enjoyed there food along with the atmosphere. The new owner came by our table to make sure we were happy with our food and experience. We will definitely be going back.
Visited on Wednesday to enjoy music (great jazz band), but was surprised at a $10 cover at 7pm. Friends ordered chef salad which was overpriced and tiny like a normal dinner salad. Only two tables in the place with two waitresses and my food was delivered to wrong table. Servers gave us prepackaged plastic knife/folk/napkins/salt/pepper for meals. Wine came in a tiny plastic glass...maybe 3 ounces tops. If youre charging $10 to get in, regular silverware and glass for drinks should be used. Never again.
Absolutely horrible. No staff (which I know isnt their fault). Mixed drinks were horrible. Burger came with 1 patty instead of 2 like advertised. Only thing BBQ is the BBQ ribs. Food was cold. Chicken tenders looked like they were from Burger King. Server was such a sweetheart and almost in tears. She was still tipped appropriately because I felt so bad for her. Womens bathroom was filthy. No more hibachi. I dont see how this place is even open still...
Cant comment on the food because I never got any. Was there over an hour and didnt even get water. The server was very nonchalant about everything and just had an it is what it is attitude. They were understaffed and everyone we tried getting to assist us said they didnt work there they were just helping out. The bar and kitchen were backed up and finally five of us in my party got up and went down to El vaquero to eat and drink. And we saw a couple others there from the bay. It was the worst experience ever and I doubt Ill ever go back. I wanted to support, but that was just ridiculous. No matter what this place has been its never successful.
The place was very short staffed due to COVID, but the manager did a great job of keeping us updated on our reservation and table status. Our server, Lena did a great job once we were seated. She was super friendly and very helpful with the menu and any questions we had. There was also a great view of the river and the city. I would highly recommend.
We went here because there was an hour-and-a-half wait at all the other restaurants at The Docks. When we arrived there were more people working than seated at the tables. At least we got a table quickly! I had heard that the quality was very good so I was excited to try. Unfortunately it was kind of a let down because for the quality that you received it was overpriced. Im not saying it was bad, just not what I expected for the prices on the menu. We sampled a variety of sushi but did not try the hibachi. We may go back and give that a shot and if I do I will update my rating. But I would not say this is a high rated place for reasonably priced sushi and cocktails.
So disappointing, from the start my instinct was to leave because we were the only ones there and the waitress in general was not very good at her job. Kobe Bay in Toledo would need a complete over haul for any recommendation, it was like an episode of kitchen impossible. I had the Seared Salmon, I believe it to have been frozen with seared marks premadefrom some factory, certainly was not freshly done, lacked flavor and was horribly dry. The menu stated a special price on an item we ordered and then we had to argue with the waitress to ask the manager to honor their own pricing. My dinner partner was equally disappointed in his own meal.
There wasnt a wait, But both tables and chair set that we were seated at had crumbs. We asked to be seated near the window nice view but the table had a liquid substance on it, the owner proceeded to swipe his hand in the substance and wipe it off.Our waitress was nice, she mumbled a bit and spoke very fast. I had to ask her to repeat herself. The alcoholic beverage we order she brought over with no tray with her bare hands and it was filled to the brim.Food was decent, meat was tender.3/5 only because of the cleanliness of the establishment was that great considering Covid-19 . Recommend. Ill try back new year
Food was truly mediocre. Sushi carelessly and loosely rolled. Udon mushy and flavorless with limp tempura on a separate butter plate. Servers were pleasant and did their best, but the whole dining experience on the patio disorderly— no drinks menu, 2 “large” saki orders in different sized saki pitchers, no soy nor dipping bowls with large sushi platters, wine in a half filled plastic water glass.Kobe Bay needs to do better to warrant a return visit.
Had dinner at Kobe Bay on Saturday night for the first time. EXCELLENT!! We were greeted by the hostess immediately very friendly warm smile and seated right away. Requested to dine outside being it was a beautiful night. Was seated in the upper balcony which has an awesome view of the water and city. Server came over again extremely friendly and courteous. Owner of the establishment took the time to come over and welcome us which I thought was super. Understand under new ownership and doing a phenomenal job!! Great atmosphere, GREAT food!! Very friendly staff and awesome customer service. Went to Tiki bar after to have a couple drinks. Bartender was very cordial took care of us immediately. This was our first experience at this restaurant and would highly recommend. Had a wonderful time. We will definitely be returning!! Kobe Bay Rocks! : )
UnderwhelmedMade a reservation, called ahead to confirm and arrived to be told they don’t have enough staff and the table won’t be ready and then are seated almost immediately. Captain Dan is very nice but their’s so e work to be done.Started with smoked fish dip. There was virtually no flavor. Asked for tobacco. Waitress said they only have Siracha and then eventually brought wing sauce. They also only had oyster crackers and I really didn’t want it on nacho chips.Ordered a pulled pork and a seafood boil. Couldn’t get what we wanted as they were out of crab and lobster. Asked for a shrimp substitute to go with muscles. Timing of food and drinks was very good and servers were friendly.Muscles we’re terrible. Never had any taste so bad. The shrimp, sausage, corn and pitying the book were all very good.Bill came and we were charged an extra pound of shrimp. Apparently there was a miscommunication with the waitress. She politely offered and got her manager who was kind enough to remove the muscles and fish dip.Atmosphere, live music and be vibe was good. Pulled pork was also very good. Staff handled the issues well enough.Overall a fun experience not what we hoped for in terms of the food.Keep getting better!
Unfortunately it was not such a great experience and I completely understand its mostly due to covid and the new owners have been struggling to find and keep servers, cooks, etc.... the shrimp appetizer was good. So was the bbq brisket. Once they find a chef that can do sushi and hibachi, they will bring more quality menu items and we will return. Its sad that this restaurant is struggling because its a great location and concept. Our food wasnt what we expected, they had to make a new steak for one of the people at our table and the seafood mac n cheese was just okay. The owner was very kind, he came out and personally apologized. We will return and give a second chance.
First off I wanted hibachi and got sat at a regular table. Secondly it took 15 minutes just to get my drink order. Thirdly they didnt ask how I wanted my steak cooked and brought it well done. Vegetables were over cooked and scorched. My appetizer was brought out half way through my main course meal and was served cold. The food wasnt the best for the price and the service was even worse. I expect that kind of service from a low end cheap place but not to the standards this place should be held at. Definitely a complete disappointment and wont go back. Ill go to a Chinese buffet and get better service.
Our server Miles was so delightful! Such an easygoing and bubbly personality! All of the staff was friendly and the live music was amazing!! They even have a celebrity BBQ chef!! Will definitely be returning and dining again soon.
This is hands down one of the best hibachi my family has ever been to, and weve been to dozens. The wait staff was very attentive, and the chef Donnie was the BEST. My 4yo loved him, and he kept her thoroughly entertained (which is very difficult to do). He even got her to eat some of the food! This is the first time shes ever been intrigued enough to participate in the show and enjoyed herself. She was sad to see him go!The food was delicious and meat was cooked a little long for the medium that I requested, but still had a wonderful flavor. We had a coupon, but still wouldve felt comfortable paying full price as this was a great experience! The gyoza couldve been fried more so, and less of a steamed texture, but honestly the hibachi means provided so much food we didnt need the appetizer. My only surprise was that noodles cost extra (most places weve been to include them in the meal price.), but still worth it.Thank you so much for the great time we had!
Apparently they have one chef in the kitchen on a Saturday. Dont recommend coming here unless youre trying to waste a couple hours waiting for food. Its not even busy. The sushi was good though. And our poor waiter was nice.Update: The food was served cold.Update again: after waiting for two hours I was informed that they are out of my dish. I ordered fried noodles and chicken. And my partys rice was crunchy.
Loved this place! I don’t usually do these reviews, but the people here treated my friends and I so well I actually felt bad not spreading the love. We’re passing through town and looked up hibachi and we couldn’t be happier with what we found! We had sushi, fried rice, and a hibachi and it was all exactly what we had hoped for after working a 14 hour day. I highly recommend you try this place if you want to eat great food with an amazing view and live music in the background!
I chose Kobe Bay for a business-entertainment dinner. The pre-dinner martinis were very nicely prepared. The house red we had with dinner was also delicious. We enjoyed bang bang shrimp and tempura shrimp and veggies as appetizers. They were, literally, some of the best I’ve ever had. We also had sushi (raw) for dinner. It too was excellent. The service was friendly, courteous, prompt, but not overbearing. I’ve eaten at the Docks many times with clients, but in the past it has always been at real Seafood. I’m absolutely delighted that the Docks has added Kobe Bay as a quality, fine food restaurant I can be proud to ask clients and business associates to join me for “breaking bread”!!!
The food here was top notch! Had the Maine boil and it was awesome!!! Crab, lobster, shrimp, sausage… what could go wrong. All great and on top of that, great corn. Medium spice was perfect flavor. Jada is the absolute bomb, knows her beers and how to serve them!
Ordered the crab and shrimp mac and cheese and it was inedible. Thankfully the waitress was super amazing and she made sure we were taken care of and offered us something else. Probably wont be coming back for a long while because serving bad crab at a seafood place just doesnt sit right with me.
Sushi was pretty good. Hibachi was run of the mill, nothing outstanding. The hibachi chef was funny and entertaining. Had to ask for my drink order 3 times before i received it; wasnt a busy night at all, maybe 20 people total in the whole restaurant. Sushi and hibachi chef made it slightly above average.
Second trip there. This time was terrible, everything took a very long time. Food took well over an hour to come out after we ordered. It was obvious that many items had been done for a while. Several dishes were cold, waitress was a mess, drinks constantly forgotten, everything was high stress with her.She apologized at the end saying she had only been there 5-6 months and never got training....We were late for our evening plans due to how long everything took. Asked for our bills as soon as the food arrived and still had to wait 20 min after we finished eating to get the bills. The bills were all messed up I paid for 1/3 of a sushi roll that I never ate or ordered.I would avoid this place durring busy times.
I miss Kobe Bay, that is how bad this place is. The food was just run of the mill and nothing special at all. All of the old decor is from Kobe Bay still and just gives an overall weird vibe. While the server was nice, she did not know the menu well at all, personally my favorite part of the evening was when she hit her vape pen while walking out onto the patio where we where sitting. Getting to smell her vape was a good personal touch. I hope they improve as this spot is too good to have another underwhelming spot
We had a nice evening, dinning in. The food was fast and fresh, a new York strip and clump crab with Mac n cheese. The best part about or visit was the staff, all friendly helpful polite especially our server, Allie she was sweet attentive and did a wonderful job. Due to her and the food we will be back!Thank you for a wonderful evening.
First time there this evening. Not a very good experience at all. Dinner entrees were brought to us, cold. Generally I do not mind my food not being warm, but some foods, salmon and NY Strip steak, are not the best when they have been sitting around after taken off the grill. Cold French fries, not good. I asked for A1 sauce. I have no idea what sauce I was brought, but it was NOT, A1 sauce. The table next to us was having problems with getting their drink order; a simple margarita. My husband said the best part of the dinner was the water. I wont go that far in saying that, but I do know we will not go back.
We got a reservation and came here under the assumption that we were getting a hibachi grill, but it was just a regular table. The service was super slow (2.5 hours) because they didn’t schedule enough workers, our waitress didn’t pay enough attention to our table, and our food wasn’t very good. They forgot my meal so I just asked for it to go, but they never actually gave it to me so we just left. Only giving it 2 stars cause the management was nice enough to make the hibachi free.
Absolutely loved our experience at Kobe Bay! The atmosphere was so nice & our waiter, Andy was the most attentive and kind person, he definitely made our first time there fantastic! Also, if you love a good drink, their Amaretto Kiss is literally amazing!
Reserved an evening for a family dinner, the staff was very friendly, the food was DELICIOUS, the atmosphere inside was quite nice and to top it off the prices were fair. This was our first family restaurant dinner since covid and we were a little apprehensive about going but were so glad we did. It was a slow evening at the restaurant (which was sad), the service didnt suffer and I know the staff would appreciate more people stopping in. We will be back!
After they bring you the initial drinks, you wont see your server for quite a while. I ordered pulled porkand it came cold like leftovers from last weeks cookout. The seafood boil was decent. Very small crab clusters, 3oz or 4oz lobster tail, 1/2 dozen shrimp was $40. They could use improvement all across the board.
My wife and I came from Flint MI, This place was awesome and to be quite honest, awesome doesn’t do it any justice. Great food, ambiance of the place is top notch, live music, prompt service. Not to mention, captain Dave was such a pleasant manager/individual in general. I’d recommend the restaurant to anyone who’s looking to dine in, have great food, and a beautiful water front view. Thank you all for a wonderful experience.
Visited a couple weeks ago on a Monday evening. They were understaffed and admitted this to us several times. We ordered a sushi meal plus 2 other rolls. Hour and a half later we received our food. The owner did apologize but for where this place is located and the prices they charge its just not acceptable. The sushi was fine, you can get better elsewhere though.
My husband and I usually are passive with this type of thing. We rarely complain about restaurants. But this place...oh man. The manager/owner, an older gentleman with glasses needs a lesson in customer service. The paper menus were crinkled and dirty. The prices are outrageous for the quality of food you get. You could go to the grocery store and buy the same quality in the frozen section. Highly disappointed given its a beautiful restaurant on the docks I would expect high quality. No desserts, no drink menu. Save your money and dont come here.
Came in for a bit of lunch on a Saturday. The service was great! We got a spicy Californian roll made fresh from the bar, tempura shrimp, bacon wrapped scallops, and dumplings with egg rolls. Everything was done to perfection. Yes, the prices are a bit high for simple dining, but about on point for a Japanese steakhouse / hibachi / fusion restaurant.
We came from out of town just to come to Kobe Bay and Honestly this is the best seafood boil I have ever had! Everything was so delicious. The service was excellent our waitress was very prompt and friendly. The owner Dave is doing a great Job here definitely will be back soon.
Dont waste your time, I went in March and the heat wasnt working. If you are from the Toledo area, you know that its still cold in March. They had the nerve to have some type of space heaters that Im sure was a fire and tripping hazard. The server took forever even though there was not many people. Had to wait on a chef. Then to top it off, the food was prepared horrible from the hibachi grill. The rice was undercooked, but yet still burnt and crunchy. No seasoning or flavor. It was disappointing. Also, the ventilation system is not the greatest. You leave smelling like smoke. I spoke with the Manager and was offered 20% off my next visit. Thanks, but not interested. Hopefully, they take these reviews seriously and attempt to fix the problem. However, the ice water with lemon was amazing!
Due to a menu switch up it wasnt what we were expecting, but we all found delicious food! The service was great and the atmosphere is lovely. Will be back again, hopefully when they bring back their sushi menu
We loved this place. New owner new menu. Absolutely horrible. Nothing positive to say .130.00 dollars wasted. Better sushi at China city buffet. No drink menu, and couldnt make a proper cosmopolitan. For a Japanese place to offer crab boils ,jambalaya, mac and cheese and street tacos. Pick an identity. Will not be back!
Yum! Love the environment2021 update- recently went in a date there expecting hibachi; turns out its no longer serving hibachi. Hard to find experienced hibachi chefs and that’s understandable. They now serve seafood boils- I’m super glad me and my date stayed! The food was good and we left FULL. The staff was sweet. We got a nice view of the city line being seated on the patio.TLDR: Even if your sad about the missing hibachi, stay for the boil. Cute date.
My co- workers, and I come her for lunch on A Saturday. Never been here before. The atmosphere is nice the staffs are friendly. We have the Hibachi, our hibachi chef, Matthew, made us fabulous food and he made us ladies laugh. The sushi is appealing and delightful. Like my boss said, it was nice that he didnt throw pieces of food on us like other hibachi places are. Because we are not seals. We are definitely coming back! Food was amazing, the place is nice, staffs are friendly. On our way out the general manager was at the door, shake our hands.Okey, Mothers Day my son asked me where I want to eat out. I choose Kobe Bay @ the docks. So got there, the young man @ the counter asked if we want to be seated @ the patio since the day was gorgeous. Which we did. Great recommendation. Then our waitress remembered me from yesterday. So that was a good feeling, and the service was again great. Food was very good and sushi! Loved it! On our way out. Matthew, the Hibachi chef recognized me, and he said HI, and shake my hand. So with all this said. Im highly recommending Kobe Bay. We need more family, and friendly place like this to have in Toledo Ohio.
The food here is always so great and filling! Our server Dominic, was very funny, nice and made our dinner even more enjoyable. We were sad that they dont serve sushi anymore but still great food 😋👌 5 stars⭐🎉
Sushi was awesome! It came fast and it was excellent. Lots of flavor. My daughter and I shared the steak quesadilla and it was huge! Fantastic food and the service was outstanding too! We had a great experience.
Had fun and delicious food on a recent visit to the restaurant. The chef was very entertaining and involved everyone at the hibachi. My daughters smiles were so sweet wish I took pictures. Memorable evening, good time, nice atmosphere.
Came here last night to celebrate my birthday, my fiancées and my brother and sisters. TERRIBLE experience. We had a reservation for 7pm and made us wait almost 15-20 minutes to get seated with a reservation. The music was awful and way too loud. I couldn’t even hear my family talking to me half the time. If we wanted to talk to someone across the table we needed to text each other that’s how loud it was. We’re at a restaurant for gods sake not a concert, no reason for the music to be that loud. Now to the WORST part, the food, of the 8 of us at the table, no one ate any of their food after the first few bites. The shredded cheese on my Mac and cheese wasn’t even melted. My families food had ZERO seasoning to it and was like the veggies were in a frozen bag and just tossed in the bowl. Nothing was cooked completely, who wants broiled broccoli not cooked with a Japanese/Asian dish??? We were never asked what we wanted to drink. I’ve worked in retail for years and am a manager at a retail store and I was extremely flabbergasted that the waitress did NOT ID ANYONE for alcoholic drinks. What would of happened had they served alcohol to a minor and they got on the road?? My whole family and I are feeling sick to our stomachs today too so thank you for that. My father complained and no compensation happened and gave us free dessert for 2 people when there was six of us that dessert was a size for an infant. DO NOT go here if you want to have a nice birthday dinner !!!! We will NOT be back!!!!
As one of maybe four tables on a beautiful Saturday night, we expected at minimum acceptable service. Our server took nearly a half hour to bring water to the table. However, the largest issue was that it took three separate attempts to find a drink on their signature cocktail list for one member of our party to actually receive a drink as the bar did not have some component of everything she tried to order. Appetizers were unremarkable. After over an hour and one round of drinks we decided to leave the restaurant as our experience was so poor. Management was no where to be found. Bartenders were lackluster if not downright bad. Food was far below the quality expected at their price point. I will not be returning and will not recommend anyone else does either.
I couldnt hear myself or anyone else over the singer’s obnoxiously loud music. On top of that the food is way too expensive, while being mediocre at best. The rice was steamed, not fried, the vegetables were boiled and had 0 seasoning at all and the steak and shrimp were good, yet they couldn’t make up for everything else. It took around 50 minutes to arrive and it was barely cooked properly. Dont come here if you want to have a good day.
Used to enjoy this place but they are barely trying after the quarantine. Tables are sticky and dishes do not appear to be washed with any kind of soap or cleaner. (My wife eats street food in Vietnam without any problems but complained that these dishes were too dirty.) Employees are wearing masks around their chins. (Either wear it or dont wear it) Menu is restricted but prices are high and quality is average. Plenty of smaller store sushi places with better prices and higher quality.
Loved the Sushi! But the sushi wasn’t as great as dinner with the owners and awesome staff. We were treated like royalty, highly recommend the Captain Dan Roll! So good. Thanks for an awesome place to stop on my trip to Toledo!
The service was great! Stars are not docked for that. Things are weird with COVID, I get it but when I asked for a drink menu they said that they were working on it yet they had their dinner menu printed. I went out on a date with my long distance boyfriend and we wanted to enjoy ourselves out on a Friday night. The band was playing the cha cha slide and wobble songs so loud we couldnt even hear each other talk. not what I was expecting for such a nice restaurant. The food was average. We got sushi and it was practically tasteless, the pot stickers were cold and the wasabi was not spicy... also practically tasteless.
Bar tender ended up being our waiter. He was drunk. Food was actually served cold after waiting about 45 minutes. There was something floating in my ginger ale. The table cloth was dirty. We had no silverware. The sushi tasted horrible- we sent it back. Otherwise it was great Not! Sorry but that our experience.
Tried this place for the first time tonight. We ordered via Doordash. We both got the chicken hibachi meal with an extra side of both rice and chicken for our daughter. Everything was wonderful, though we did not receive the miso soup that was included in the description of our meals. We would try this place again, though probably dine-in
Came down for my sisters 30th birthday from Michigan. Saw the restaurant from across the Maumee River and decided to walk over. Was not disappointed. Best sushi weve ever had! Our server was newer, but she did great. Kevin was also a HUGE help, he went above & beyond for us! Would highly recommend swinging in!
Was looking forward to go to this place, but we probably wont go here again. Not really sure what kind of restaurant this is, but with the decor it had, it made you think it was an asian/japanese steak house. It was not!! There was no sushi or hibachi on the menu like Ive seen in pictures. I dont know if they cut their menu down, but there was only like 2 pages of food and 5 pages of drinks. Not much choices at all, and WAY over priced. My meal was OK. I got the lump crab and shrimp mac and cheese. There hardly was an crab on it.
I love going here! I absolutely love sushi and its always amazing when I go here. The sushi chef is really great! He makes very good sushi and hes very nice too. It is a little expensive, but the quality is most definitely worth it!
THANKS Captin DanWe had a wonderful evening at Kobe Bay. The social distancing was perfect and yet it felt warm and welcoming not cold and distant you and your staff nailed it. Servers were tentative and polite. Sushi was quality plus, calamari tender and tasty surprisingly the gumbo yummy too!! Thanks for supporting live entertainment Cant wait to come back and visit againHappy New YearTake care my friend
First time going there last night. It was very good food and excellent service. Then we found out Tuesdays are half off on sushi. Going on a Tuesday it was pretty dead, very nice and quiet. The server he was excellent and on top of our refills also food came out quickly.
This place price point for the quality and quantity of their food is a little high for one. Another thing that made this place mediocre was the taste of their seafood boil. The taste was bland to what Im used to when it comes to seafood boils. Another downside to this place was how the seafood boil came in just a bag with no juices and not a foil pan that Im used to getting with the seafood sitting in the sauce of choice. Another thing that made this mediocre is the fried calamari came with no dipping sauce. But the one saving grace was the Bang Bang shrimp. Those were delicious and on point. The best out of all the food I got there. Will I eat there again if Im Toledo hmm... probably not. I would rather take my chances at a few of the other seafood places in Toledo.
I have been to this place several times and absolutely love it! Its super affordable! When it comes to their Hibachi, I have not found one I dont like.It was busy on the Sat night, but the service never let us disappointed. Service was reasonably efficient and the sushi rolls were outstanding. The general manager and other severs are very friendly and professional.Overall I highly recommend this place and Im really glad I found this place and will continue to eat here!
Great Food, on the water, sushi is always fresh! Prices are comparable if not better. Never to busy!! This is our favorite place to have sushi and hibachi. Many wines to choose from. Always fun as well
The food was good. Service was slow. The server did apologize The few times she came by our table, told us the kitchen had a 10 top and 16 coming out at the same time. Kitchen couldnt keep up with our 2 top despite the 50 empty tables.
This is a real gem, definitely my familys go-to for anniversaries, birthdays, or if we just need a night out. First off the place is absolutely gorgeous inside and they have a beautiful patio. Service is consistently attentive and friendly. The sushi is out of this world, try the eel and you wont regret it! Weve also done the hibachi and the kids really enjoy it. Never much of a wait either, its nice being able to just go in and get a table without the hour-long wait. Worth every penny imho.
My family and I just had the greatest lunch ever at Kobe Bay! The staff is simply amazing, warm and treated us like royalty! The food is beyond great! You have to try the Captain Dan special! Highly recommend!!
After we were told our food was coming out shortly.. we were told the kitchen was “just starting” our food after we had already waited 30 minutes for it. Finally got the food after an hour, it was not great. The ramen was just noodles and broth, not like the pictures. We could have made it ourselves. Employees weren’t wearing the masks over their noses, and they were also arguing openly for customers to hear. My boyfriend is too nice, but I would have not paid for the food.
It was the worst experience I have ever had ordering take out. I purchased two binto boxes that were just thrown together. I waited twenty minutes and received a meal that was completely cold to the touch. My scallop meal literally had only 4 tiny scallops, my salad was literally just lettuce. I have never been so disappointed with a restaurant experience in my life. I would not recommend anyone to dine there.
I’m giving them 3 stars for the quality of the food. This has been a go to spot for me for years and the food has never failed. However, the management is an absolute mess. The staff is always stressed out running around like they have no idea what they’re doing. The owner / manager of some sorts is a nice guy but just seems oblivious to everything going on. It has become stressful for me when I pick up orders. If everything was more in order I’m sure the experience would be much more pleasant. Fingers crossed for next time ...
Kobe Bay aims for an upscale Asian fusion experience, but it succeeds at being average. The sushi is decent, but nothing memorable. It is also quite overpriced. Service is pleasant, but slow. The atmosphere is the most impressive part. Plenty of other restaurants in Toledo offer a better experience with lower prices.
First time eating here. Was asked to sit at the bar until a table was ready but never got seated. The bar tender had to get us a table. I understand being short staffed but the place wasnt busy. The food was good except for the lukewarm Mac n cheese. Expected more from a place with seafood in the name. Some but not all of the staff needs to be trained or retrained.
Very good sushi! Cool atmosphere as well as a full bar. When it is nice outside, you can sit on the patio overlooking the water. Tuesdays and Thursdays they have half off sushi! Need I say more?? Put this place on your list.
Food was ok about average. The service was below average. The staff seem to mostly new. Also they some how ran out glasses. When the dish wash gather dishes from the cart in the corner. He came back with the cart and still had glasses and dishes in it. Also we wait 25+ plus mins for chicken tender for the kid. Maybe the should start managing the other staff other then the waiter and waitress.
This is definitely the restaurant you wanna try if your into seafood. Visiting the city for a few days and stopped in for some sushi and crab boil. Food was amazing and so was staff. Our waiter Nicole was so cool and made our visit one of the best considering the Covid conditions our country faces. I even received a discount on my meal for being a Veteran, which was awesome. Me and my military friends will be back!!!!!!💪🏾👌🏾 5stars ⭐️
They have changed the menu. No more sushi. Its BBQ and seafood boils, I felt the ribs were dry and not good. Service was horrible, the waitress was new, 1st day without having anyone training her, it wasnt her fault it was the institution. It was over priced for what you get.
I had a wonderful experience. The food was very very very spectacular. We arrived when they were on a wait but they sat us very quickly. The server was amazing and alot of fun to have. I enjoyed the food and atmosphere. It was super clean and I would pick this place next time as well.
Celebrating 4 birthdays that were absolutely ruined. Food was absolutely disgusting & service was just as bad. Life music was way too loud. We couldn’t hear each other talk. And the hibachi is in the kitchen, not at the table. All of the food was bland, with no taste. Very disappointing. Food was left on table when we left, & no break on bill. All the server did was offer free dessert & it was proportionally sized for an infant. I highly recommend that you go somewhere else. If you want the full hibachi experience, go to Nagoya in Perrysburg or Rayoka in Maumee. Better food & service by a mile!
Wonderful experience! Service was great! My server was awesome, she did everything and then some. Food was excellent; had the hibachi grill and the kitchen hibachi both DELICIOUS! Thanks Kobe Bay!
We picked this place based on google recommendation for ramen soup meals which this restaurant no longer has! This establishment screams Japanese food but is more of a Louisiana/Bay Area food! Was told they were moving away from the Japanese and going more lobster/shrimp/gumbo style foods! Very disappointed. Was able to get some Hibachi food which had a very sweet taste and was Luke warm at best! My boom boom shrimp was large in size but lacked in flavor and sauce! Pot stickers were okay but warm. Overall not very happy
Dee is Excellent Hostess!!! The view was Beautiful. Food was very tasty. Wait for meals to come out was a bit long, but well worth it. Initial interaction with front staff and mgr was off to very rocky start, but Dees personality, professionalism and graciousness more than made up for their rudeness.
When you walk in it appears to be very nice but don’t let them fool you. We put in a reservation for 11 and asked to be seated in the hibachi grill but they told us that we would have to split up after we already arrived and not over the phone. So they put a couple tables together in the exit hall and called it their “private room”. It was also so cold inside that we had to put our jackets on to stay warm. On top of all of this our food took an hour and a half to come out so we decided to leave before they put the food on the table and paid for our drinks and appetizers. The only good part of this place was the waitress she was very patient and brought us everything we asked for in a timely manner. Overall 1/10
Dined here tonight since Michigan is still closed due to Big Grinch. Restaurant is really nice and great views. Wait staff was also awesome food not so good. Boston Boil was just full of butter, 5 muscles, 6 shrimp, crab was soggy and not worth the $29.95. plenty of potatos and sausage but they forgot the corn. There were a total of 4 people in the entire restaurant so the kitchen shouldnt have been overwhelmed at least by people dinning in. If not for the wait staff it would have been one star.
Very disappointed with our experience. Came in for sushi with a party of 7 last night. We only waited about 15 minutes to be seated, which may have been the only positive with our experience other than our server. We placed our drink and sushi orders with our server, and received our drinks and soup fairly quickly. The real issue was how incredibly long we waited for our sushi, about 2 hours. We would have understood if it was busy, but the restaurant was fairly slow most of the time we were there. Our server tried her best to keep our drinks filled and even brought us salads, on the house, while we waited. About an 1 1/2 hours into waiting our server informed us that the sushi chefs had ran out of some of the ingredients needed for our rolls. Frustrated, we asked for close substitutes to the rolls that couldnt be made. We received our sushi after the 2 hour wait. It was good, but certainly not worth the time. Our server apologized multiple times, but the issue seemed to be out of her hands. To have that long of a wait for okay sushi when the restaurant was not busy, and to run out of ingredients on half off sushi night is unacceptable. Will likely not be coming back.
We dined here for our 25th wedding anniversary on Oct 22. We had a wonderful experience! The hibachi tables are so much fun! The food was amazing, our chef (Julius) was incredible and the view beautiful. Definitely our new favorite!
Love this place! 💜 They even have half priced sushi a couple nights a week. The staff is super friendly and helpful! Went here on a whim cause the place next door was closed. They did not disappoint! And the patio is awesome great view of the sunset.
Waitress seemed like she hated her job. Waited 2 hours for our Sushi but had plans after that we were already late for so it came in a To Go box. Sat at a Restaurant for 2 hours and couldn’t even eat our food.We also had to reserve a table but the place was empty. Restaurant Manager had no concern for us and we all still paid everything in full. Will never be going there again.
We love Kobe Bay! Was there over the weekend. Food, service and entertainment was great! We brought newbies who really enjoyed it that they will now spread the word too! Its a shame that it is not as busy because its a gem! We love coming here. Never had sickness issues. People are to quick to blame things on food poisoning. We cant wait to come back!
Had a great experience! We came here for a special birthday celebration and couldnt have been happier. The waitress, Lauren, was very friendly and attentive. The hibachi chef, Oki, was extremity entertaining and jovial. We would suggest this venue to anyone looking for great food, a superb view and wonderful hospitality.
Love the new menu, Dom was a awesome server!! Miles gave the wife and I a awesome history lesson of the old steam plant across the river. Definitely come down here grab a cocktail 🍸 Enjoy great food and a amazing view!!
Go for the view, not the food. Sushi is better at Kroger and mall food court Japanese is better than the hibachi here. Waited an hour for food, while other tables came and left before we were served. Never again. (They retorted they had 2 managers working FOH, sadly it didnt help.)
Waited 15 minutes just to get our water. Then the food proceded to be below sub par. And don’t copy and paste your reply of 80% off and our party, because we didn’t even complain. Very poor job, do better. Over 70$ wasted. The food isn’t that good either for the price. Why is Amya the only working waitress. Somebody give that poor girl a raise
This experience was awesome the two waitress were amazing very informative, patient, swift, and attentive. We had 2 cooks both were relatable to both adult and children, hilarious, sanitary and the food was delicious. This was actually my second time and I will be back for a third 😉👍!
Great customer service, great drink selection, great staff, and great food. The sushi is *chefs kiss*The atmosphere at this place is amazing. Good energy and good vibes. The ambiance is perfect with the view of the lake/pond at sunset. Great place to enjoy live music, good food, and good drinks.
I left this place wondering how theyre still in business.... Japanese based restaurant with hibachi that serves tacos and cheeseburgers. Outdoor patio was a nice environment, but had a band playing classic rock oldies. Very confusing.... We got the sushi and it was OK, but paid too prices for something I could have purchased at Kroger. 100% will not be returning.
First time at the restaurant on a Tuesday, place was not very busy. The food was excellent, the service on the other hand, not so great. Food took about 45 minutes, and the drinks took about 15-20 minutes to get after ordering. The frustrating part is that we were waiting on drinks, and looking around the servers were just standing around! It took us about 2 hours just to have dinner due to slow service. Place has a lot of potential but definitely needs some serious work on management side of things.
When my father and I made the unfortunate decision to visit this disorganized mess of a restaurant, we called ahead of time to ask how long the wait was. We were told its an hour wait and they put us down for 8:15pm. We arrived early and the manager told us to wait until our reserved time, and a seat would be available for us by then. Fair enough. We sat and waited until our reservation time, and when we approached the front desk, the blonde waitress said they still dont have any seats available, even for those that made reservations. She pointed at the bar and said you can sit there and order though. So we walked up to the bar but all the seats were taken. At this point we waited well over an hour for our RESERVED seating and we just decided to leave and go somewhere else.PRO TIP for restaurants that are short staffed and cannot seat more customers: Maybe dont make more reservations??Their menu didnt make sense with the theme of the restaurant anyway (bbq food at a Japanese-themed restaurant??)We went next door to Hamburger Marys and they were great!! Delicious burgers and the drag queens were fabulous! Go there instead.
I strongly disagree in reading some of the reviews comparing Kobe Bay to Kroger sushi... Kobe Bay sushi was very good. We went on a Saturday night so had a little bit of a wait for our table, food, etc, but otherwise a good experience.
It was ok for sushi, ok for service. I believe it could be oh so much better./Well the food was not bad, it was just plain. It could use more flair. The service was slow for business being as slow as it was. The waitress could of been more understanding of good service. It wasnt a bad experience. I personally felt it could of been a much better all around experience is all. I will try Kobe Bay again.
Today was probably one of the worst experiences Ive had at a hibachi style restaurant to date. We had a wedding party group, so some mix-ups and stumbles in customer service was to be expected. But this was extraordinarily bad. But I was assured by the CEO Captain Dan that a returned visit would prove to be a different affair. So, because of his gratitude for our patronage and apologies, I will return for dinner very soon. Thanks to Dan.
It seemed decent at first, we sat on the patio to stay away from people. Half the staff had their masks half down, thankfully our waitress had hers up. They started playing county music which our whole family hates. My youngest son politely asked the waitress if she could turn it Down, as my other son is autistic. She said shed check, a man then came out and turned it up, so loud we couldnt hear each other. The food wasnt horrible but it wasnt good either. We will not return!
Food was amazing. Our server was very nice and checked on us throughout. We really enjoyed the dessert as well. The whipped topping tasted very fresh as well
We had a wonderful meal of Sushi and Jambalaya. Yes, I said Jambalaya. It was as good or better than I had in New Orleans. The sushi was very fresh and tasty. Our dine in experience very nice as well, and the prices are reasonable.
5stars👌🏾Really enjoyed our visit. Came two days in a row while here on vacation. Found this spot online searching for seafood boil and boi did we find a good place. The boil was amazing and our waiter Nicole sealed our visit with her awesomeness. We will definitely be back to visit.
My husband and I usually dine out at restaurants on Monroe Street. We decided to do something different and go downtown to the docks. We saw this place and decided to give it a try. We were not disappointed. We sat on the patio and watched the sunset while we enjoyed dinner. No complaints about the food or staff. Our server was very friendly. After we ate we sat at the bar for a few drinks and the bartender was pleasant to be around and made great conversation. We will definetly put this on our list of places to go on date night.
I ordered a steak and it looked like it was microwaved and felt like rubber tasted like rubber. It was awful and I ended up throwing up in their bathroom right after eating it. The manager was completely rude and disrespectful. I would never recommend eating here.
Excellent food ans service! Ribs to die for. Shrimp is amazing! Gumbo is awesome. Brooks is a great chef and Tiffany gave us perfect service. Wi back often.ll be
Wait staff was not professional. While serving our miso soup waitress placed her thumb in our soup bowls and didnt offer to replace. Also soup was cold so waitresse said she would take soup to kitchen to microwave. She brought back 4 bowls of soup that was ordered for our table after microwaving......my question is....How did she know whos soup was whos? We had table of 5. First meal arrived 15 minutes before the remaining 4 meals were brought out. Over priced for poor quality!
This place was horrible. They asked if we wanted to eat inside or outside and we chose outside. We then waited 30 minutes and no one said nothing to us. We then went inside and asked if we eat inside (thinking it would be faster). We then waited another 15 minutes, got up and left. We get being short staffed but to have nothing said to you as a customer is ridiculous. I don’t care how good the food is, if the service is horrible the whole place is horrible. And at those prices they should definitely be better than that.
My family and I went there Saturday and we had this awesome waitress amanda. She made sure we were taken care of. She was very patient with our kids, and was very polite. I would recommend going here and requesting her. Food was amazing!
I hate leaving bad reviews... but this was the worst service and meal I’ve had. When our meals came, we were missing one meal, and neither pulled pork had sauce on it. The bbq sauce never came and the missing meal took THIRTY minutes to come out after everyone else’s- by that time we got the meal to go. A drink we ordered during the meal came at the same time as the check. It was chocked up to “don’t come on the weekend when we’re busy”.
Food was amazing! Made is the best sushi chef this side of the maumee river! Captain Dan was very friendly and was willing to fix anything that was wrong! Raven is the best server in the world I will always ask for her everytime I go in!
Great food. I got the seafood boil crab legs, shrimp and mussels and st.louie ribs and everything was delicious. What made it even better was Des, tentative always made sure we were good. Definetly recommend this place and ask to be seated with Des.
I recently enjoyed a fine dinner at this establishment, and I say, “Bravo!” to the sushi chefs for creating a fine, traditional, japanese eating experience. Emily was our server that evening and i have never seen such quality customer service! the liquor flowed, and the sushi rolled that evening, and i will be returning with all my friends and family soon!!
Only reason they get one star is because I couldnt give them zero. We called ahead about a week and a half before to reserve a table and when we arrived they said they didnt have my name. Hm...okay...but they still got us seated. Got our alcoholic drinks but the diet coke we had to flag someone else to get. Who knows why it came out after mixed drinks...Our martini came in two different sizes glasses...one significantly smaller than the first. Waited over an hour and a half for our food. Everything came piecemeal...the sushi first, then 1 or 2 dishes every 15 minutes. The soup and salad for the hibachi plate didnt even come. The server literally said, We ran out of the soup and salad but I can go back there and make you some. What does that even mean- yes, it comes with our meal...go make it! Was she trying to guilt trip us into not making it? Because why tell us youre out if you can make it? Also, close to the tail end of our meal she tells us the calamari was also sold out. Hm that seems the easiest to make wouldnt you know that sooner? Even if thats not the casethat was just another inconvenience to add. My dads fried rice was cold and had it get it sent back to be warmed up. Service was so slow, food wasnt that great, and very overpriced. And the portions for the fried rice were so small. I will say it was New Years Eve and we were a party of 12 at 730p so we expected some delay but this was unacceptable. The table next to us left because they didnt even get their food! Another couple warned us as well that they waited almost 2 hours. I dont know if they were understaffed or inexperienced staff or what but it was a very bad experience. It was moderately busy but did not warrant the delays we had or lack of attention. Even the host was slow from watching him seat tables. Just very basic apologies from the server but no effort to make it right. I promise Im not just a spoiled grouchy customer. I have been a server for most of my life and I just know the type of service that is expected and I have empathy for servers, but this did not deserve my sympathy. Maybe theyre better other days, but this was not one of those days. And honestly I just hope this review serves as a constructive criticism to help improve service and quality of your restaurant. We didnt want anything else in return or anything free...just a good evening out and it was kind of ruined.
Simply the best sushi in Toledo and right there with the best Ive ever had. I have visited Japan many dozens of times and lived in the San Francisco Bay Area for a year. I still havent found anything better especially at the reasonable price point
We came here for a birthday party at a Hibachi grill. The food was excellent and they put on quite the show. Only reason it got docked stars is because I asked the waitress if I could order sushi (which I had been looking forward to since I knew we were going) and I couldnt. Not sure of the reason why.
Exceptional customer service. Our server was constantly checking up on our table and making sure we had everything we needed. The atmosphere was amazing and the view is breathtaking if youre outside. Its absolute gorgeous inside as well. The food was delicious, especially coming from someone who typically only eats pasta lol. I will most definitely go back. Wonderful place.
Absolutely horrific! wanted to share my experience publicly as i’ve never been treated the way we were before by a restaurant. we made a NYE reservation for 7:30 and when we showed up there was no one at the front desk. after 10 mins someone finally came to the desk but she did not greet us for a while. once she did we said we had a reservation and she said it would be a moment as they would need to clear a table. after another 15 mins we finally asked a server what was going on and she said they were overbooked by accident so we offered to wait at the bar to get out of their way while we waited for a table. after sitting at the bar for ANOTHER 10 mins the bartender finally came over to ask us what we wanted to drink and served my water in a huge styrofoam cup (Polar Pop style) and my cocktail in a small plastic glass - honestly the type that you’d see at a wedding. we asked her if we could wait at the bar for our table and she said she didn’t care. she never checked on us after that and after waiting for another 20 mins we decided to just leave as no one seemed like they were looking for a table for us. we were in this restaurant for over an hour, each had 1 drink and were totally ignored and i would definitely never recommend coming here. the cherry on top of it was a couple next to us ordered sushi and after 1 bite got up to leave. so based off of that i’m not even sure the food would be quality
Food used to be great. New owners came & now the food tastes like complete garbage. I highly recommend trying a different restaurant in the area.EDIT: Even after being offered $100 cash by the owner to dine here again (weird practice for sure lol) - I wouldnt eat here again for $100, $200, or $1000. This place is a complete joke. Food tastes like hot garbage & I think the owners are having an identity crisis trying to figure out exactly what this restaurant should be. After seeing numerous reports of people coming ill after eating here, Ill be absolutely certain to stay far far away.
Horrible- no showmanship with cook.-Steaks so thin the cook does not even ask how we like it he just cooked it all the same.-Table was dirty.-Service was bad.In my opinion it is the worse hibachi experience in the city. We were expecting much more.
The food was okay, sushi was acceptable. Probably one of the better sushi places in the downtown area, but there are better ones in Sylvania. Overall, theyre prices are quite reasonable but the atmosphere and quality are just not worthy of a 5-star rating. Only major complaint was the server reeked of cigarettes. Not very appetising.
I had a wonderful experience here! I went with two of my girlfriends and we were served at the bar, service was fast and attentive and the food was delicious! Im looking forward to going again and trying out more delicious food.
The menu change was quite a surprise. I thought the food was decent, but for BBQ I have better options than here. Service was slow, which was okay, but we also had a different person everytime which was a bit strange
We dined at Kobe Bay at the docks for the first time. We enjoyed it emencely. The restaurant is spacious and beautiful, with a nice view of the river and downtown Toledo. We had the Habachi grill combo where the chef cooks at your table. It was very entertaining and great fun. The food is hot and very tasty. You get your choice of meats or seafood with fried rice and vegetable combo. It also comes with soup and salad (just lettuce and dressing). If your looking for a special dining experience I suggest you give it a try.
Unfortunately I received cold food 😏however to my surprise Nate , store manager, made everything right! He turned an unfavorable situation and made it pleasant. He listened to my concerned and vowed to bring changes. I’ll be coming back real soon to see the changes he’s implementing. New menu and management... can’t wait!. Calie our server did a fantastic job ask for her
Have been to Kobe Bay several times for date night and larger family events. Hibachi chefs are really entertaining. Delicious food and good service. Love enjoying a beverage and the view on the patio when weather allows.
I had a great time here. Brought my wife and two small children (3 and 18 months). Staff was great with the kids. Food is good and not overpriced. I hope this place can last. Was there on a Saturday night before a hockey game and was only 1/4 full. COME ON TOLEDO!! You want quality places, you need to support them!!!Edit:This is the first time I have changed a review from 5 stars to 1 star. I have visited this restaurant 3 times since my initial review, and every visit it has gotten progressively worse. Last night was my last visit and a bonafide disaster. My party of eight arrived at 6:50 for a 7:00pm reservation. By 7:20 we had still not been seated. We congregated at the bar where our average wait time for poorly made cocktails was about 5-7 minutes. These bartenders appeared as though they had no prior experience. Even the draft beer was poured poorly. By 7:40 my party was getting restless. The repeated unapologetic excuse from the host was that they were waiting for people to leave, even though numerous unoccupied tables could be seen that were not being cleared and reset. Also, these excuses had to be solicited, as no one came to check on us, or give us an update. At 8pm, my wife told the host that if we were not seated in the next 5 minutes, we were leaving. We were finally seated at 8:10. Water arrived around 8:30, first round of drinks arrived at around 8:50. Dinner concluded at 9:40pm. One person in our party ordered non-hibachi entrée and it arrived at about 9:30 when we were all done eating. Members of our party were also going to the bar to get drinks since the service was so slow. At no time did a manager come and apologize to us, nor did anyone offer to adjust our bill for the delay. This restaurant has been open for over 2 years, but you would think it was their first week. I worked in restaurants as a server, bartender, and manager, and what I witnessed was complete chaos. I will not be returning.
My wife complained the day we were there and called to speak with manager and got same response. we ordereed habachi, the steak , chicken, and shrimp. the meat was so over cooked you couldnt cut it with just a fork, panda express has better meals. the manager just tried to give excuses. the best was when he asked well how was the rice. then when are meal came we asked where soup and salad was, he had forgotten it. this was at 4pm in middle of week only 3 tables there. when we said for $50 on food no drinks, alcohol we said it wasn t up to standard we were told maybe our standards were to high. never an offer to replace meal or any kind of offer half off. will never go back, we had driven 40 miles just to eat there.
Great food and great atmosphere. They have a great staff that is very friendly. Awesome local live entertainment. The manager, Dan is awesome and always wants to make sure your experience at Kobe Bay is an awesome one.
Waited 5 minutes to be recognized than a gentleman asked us if we were being helped. He went and got another guy who proceeded to tell us that he was the only server and why did he have to do everything. He berated his boss and said he was ready to quit.Needless to say we walked out and went to Real Seafood Company where we got great food and service. Do yourself a favor and skip this place.
Good food but the service is only good if you eat at the hibachi. We sat in the main dining room and meals came out one at a time. Well, half of them. We asked where the other two were. One showed up 5-10 minutes later. The other never showed.
The service is appalling! I felt my shoes go out of style as I sat there.. I asked for the manager twice and waited for over two hours for food that was served cold and dry! I do not recommend this place to anyone even though the salad dressing was good and the sushi was alright!
Dion was our hibachi chef and he was the best ever!!! He was hilarious I laughed so hard I cried! The food was good. And a nice view out the windows. Definitely give it a try.
Delicious Sushi but the service was not good. It seemed like our server forgot about our table. Never checked up on us once and it got to the point I had to ask another server for an additional order and for the check! Even after waiting for 20 minutes once we were done eating.
I came here with a large party of friends and we got seated right away and was quick. Then we didn’t get our appetizers for another 45 minutes. So we kept asking why the service was slow and no one answered. We finally got half of the dinners a hour later. All the people that were sat around us left and people were leaving way before us. The food was cold and some was incorrect. Not enjoyable
Horrible experience not only did the food instantly make half of our 16 person party violently Ill but the manager screamed at one of the people in our party to the point he was spitting as the puking partys all sick with food poisoning puked outside because he said by reducing our bill by 40% we should be happy. It was truly a grotesque and horrible way for my granddaughter to spend her 21st birthday. Beware!
Made reservations for 6:00 for the hibachi grill. Came into the restaurant at 6:05 and we were waiting at a regular table for 20 minutes because no hibachi grills were open. Had to eat dinner at a regular table, but the food was good.
Our meal at Kobe Bay was very enjoyable up until about 24 hours later when I experienced VOMITING AND DIARRHEA. When learning about this news, the manager Laurie was somewhat combative and alerted me that I needed documentation from a doctor otherwise she wouldn’t trust me. She stated that I would have gone to the hospital if the food poisoning was bad enough. What are the chances that 2 out of 6 from our party who were the only ones from the group that ate chicken hibachi both had gastroenteritis at the same time could be coincidental? This was my first, and unfortunately my last visit to Kobe Bay.
Awful experience. Poor service. Food wasnt good. Everyone else recieved their food, ate, and paid the bill before I got my meal. No apology. Just excuses and told if you want better service, dont come during the weekend. Not worth it. Only redeeming quality was the fact it was on the water. Would NOT recommend.
The worst restaurant service Ive ever experienced. Reservations were made for 7:45 and we werent seated until 8:50. Even then the waitress took forever to hand us menus and give us our drinks. The menus that were given to us had half of the items crossed out because they werent available. The manager was very rude and didnt offer compensation for the bad service. I didnt receive my food until 9:45. Absolutely never coming here again. Also, the manager replied below saying they offered my meal as free because of the service, that is completely false.
Kobe Bay Located at 18 Main St. Toledo, Ohio, 43605 at The Docks. To be fair with this post I must preface by saying; I wasn’t here for dinner, I met some friends out for drinks, so I didn’t get to sample the menu. I arrived by boat and my friends were already seated on the patio. It was just approaching dusk and a perfect timing for a gorgeous sunset on the Maumee River and the Toledo skyline. The ambiance was five (5) star. I can say the drinks were reasonable and not watered down. I only stayed about an hour but I had a good time. I will be returning to sample the menu, stay tuned...
The waiter and waitress were very attentive when it came to getting drinks. If you are lucky youll get the hibachi chef with props your in for a treat! You better be ready to catch saki! Great food, great service, great resuraunt!
The food was okay they could have cooked it better, then again i’m a picky eater so it wasn’t ALL to MY liking. Although their cheesecake is worth while is actually good that is some I recommend. :)
We love the view and the food of Kobe Bay! Our filet mignon Habachi was the best weve had in a while... and love their spicy calafornia roll. Cant wait to go back. P.s. the service was great!
Worst experience I’ve had dining out. My family and I have been to the same establishment in the past and the difference was night and day. We had what appeared to be 3 different servers throughout our meal. Lemonades were sour and food was not hot when it was served. A moscato was brought out to someone at our table and it had a gnat. When the server brought out a new moscato she jokingly said, “here is your moscato, gnat free”. Overall very bad experience dining out, especially disappointing since we had gone out for a birthday dinner. Additionally when we called to make reservation, no mention was made of not being able to serve habachi style meal due to COVID restrictions; another family who arrived behind us left because of this. Poorly managed operation. Will likely never return based on this experience. Not worth the money you pay for a fine dining experience. I would have been completely embarrassed if I had invited and out of town guest to dinner. Poor representation of what Toledo has to offer.
New owners? The service was excellent the food was out fast and it was delicious! Ive always enjoyed the food but service was always hit or miss in the past, usually miss ...glad to experience the new management and hoping they do well and continue with the great service! The one star was a mistake!!! I fixed it!
First post of update on October 27, 2017Horrible place, horrible food. They take too long, slow service, lazy chefs and wont be coming back. One star for the worse Chinese restaurant in town.I wouldnt recommend nobody to Kobe Bay.New update on November 17, 2017!This place is horrible and very disrespectful to black people and towards the disabled citizens.I used to work for this place and its gross. The staff are mean, rude, cut back on my checks for had working me 2 days week. The food here is atrocious and best to call the health department on as the chefs sneezing and coughing all over the food. The management is the worse Id even seen.I wouldnt recommend eating here.Theyre rude, racist to black people and prejudice against the disabled overall. You like that facebook only allows one star for this disgraceful company. Youll never get no stars from me ever againTheyre hateful towards people with disabilities. The management told me go f*** myself and dont care if I had went homeless by not provided with my final pay stub and last day notice. So I hope theyre able to read this being known that this place is horrible to both customers and staff. Please dont come nor support this pathetic and terrible plaque of Asian restaurant. They dont like the disabled at all.
My husband & i thought we were going to have a nice dinner. Not---- first sign should have been there were 5 guest in the whole restaurant. It gets a 1 star cause the cook was nice. Surprised to see our bill tho--- gratituity was added for our convience. What the hell, there was 2 of us, then seen on the reciept we could put on ADDITIONAL TIP. No way! They were very gracious with the tip. My shrimp tasted like dirt, not the sea, but my steak was good. Scallops not good, and the noodles got cold before the rest of the other food made it to my plate. VERY OVER RATED. Not returning. I can have 2 Really delicious meals at Texas Roadhouse for the $100 bill that i recieved here.
Kobe Bay was absolutely wonderful! Nice service & they really respect the veterans there! Made a late reservation for 8 & they had no problem getn us in! Right off the river & live music! & last but not least when we left we felt respected and appreciated!
I will never eat at Kobe Bay again. I took my Fiance and family here for his Birthday I was lied to over the phone that they were doing hibachi on the grill when we got there the waitress told us that due to Covid they are not doing the grill I was ready to leave then but my Fiance insisted we stayed since we had 9 people with us. The food was TERRRIIIBLE noodles were definitely out the microwave rice had no butter or flavor soup tasted like Noodle water even the salad was horrible (how do you mess up a salad) my daughter ordered a cheeseburger and fries and she said it was the worst burger she ever had I didnt even eat my food Kobe Bay made well over $400 from our table I complained and the waiter ignored I didnt want to ruin my Fiances birthday complaining I called the next day to speak to a manager and was told the Manager was in a meeting I have not recieved a call back yet I do not recommend Kobe Bay to ANYONE I am still upset about my experience
Our food was so good! My friend and I both ordered the Maine Seafood Boil. I highly recommend. Miles was our server. His service was A+. Well be back!
We finally got all 3 Birthday people together for a great time and dinner, and the music was so loud that we couldnt even talk, service was bad and slow, soup had no taste and lettuce was frozen, had to ask for water we all still have stomach problems this morning, we wanted a night to remember, but we recommend that you NOT GO TO THIS PLACE, we couldnt even finish our meals and left everything there, complaining to our server and nothing taken off of a 200 dollar bill..they told me to call them and I did, still waiting for them to call back, the manager was to busy to talk and would get back to me. And so it goes, starts at the top, just like the service we got I did have a conversation with the manager and he asked what he could do to help win us back, he offered to send us a check and we are still waiting for it. Please call me again..bb NOTHING..BBw
Great location and bbq sauce other then that, they did not fill the order correctly the meat was over cooked the sides all tasted the same... Like nothing. Way too expensive way too little food for what youre paying. Do not waste your time.
Good service, excellent sushi (which is a reliable indicator for a Japanese restaurant), and even while the staff was slammed with a big party, they made the experience nice. Friendly owner and good environment. Ill certainly be back!
Went here a few weeks ago for some udon. The noodles had the texture of clay and were very hard to even chew, let alone finish. My tempura came out cold and we were left waiting for our check for at least 25 minutes. Safe to say I wouldn’t come back here.
Although the restuarant was not busy at all, the service was very slow. Our waitress was very nice, but did not check on the table after the hibatchi chef was finished. Most of our table went without drinks for quite some time. Also I was not fond that they added gratuity onto our check, considering our service was not top notch.
Dinner at Kobe Bay was fantastic, had the main boil, the lobester was tender and moist, the wine was good, the crab, the shrimp, what a dish. My wife enjoyed the salmon and the calamari. Try this place !
Super slow service, sushi was meh at best, had to ask for chopsticks and soy sauce!!! And to top it off we found some unknown substance in the sake and instead of taking it off the Bill we were charged and had to ask for it to be removed!!!Worked in the service industry for years and haven’t had this bad of service in YEARS!!! Will never go back!
We made reservations for a surprise birthday dinner and had a 30-45 minute wait before our order was even taken. We were very understanding but to our dismay 2 different parties came in after we’ve already been waiting, and they served them before our table because our party had 2-4 extra people. However, the portions of food that was given was not worth the price; maybe because the size of our group. We were very disappointed with this establishment, our 2 hour dinner turned into 3.5 hours.
Food was bland and disappointing. Our hibachi chicken was so rubbery and dry you couldnt even bite into it. 1/10. Would not recommend, but server was super nice.
Miles was an amazing! Menu has changed to a BBQ/boil restaurant. Was looking forward to sushi but the crab boil was outstanding. Miles took care of us!
Went for hibachi and expected the cook to do a few tricks or communicate with my group, he didnt... just cooked the food and left. The food was not exactly flavorful but the Sushi made up for it ...very tasty 😁
After a long wait for a server to notice us in the restaurants large, cold, sparse space - we enjoyed the food. I gave it 3 stars for the food only. For the prices they charge they would benefit by providing a better trained staff and a little ambiance. We may try it again in summer.
