Very rudely greeted. When asked for a bar menu, I was quickly hit with You dont know what you want at your age? Ended up ordering anyway, during happy hour, but charged full price. 0 out of 10, would not recommend.

Fun bar with great happy hour but with all the money they must make you think they’d fix the bathrooms!!!! Almost half of all stalls and urinals were blocked off as ‘not working’ and NO SOAP to wash your hands just like that last time we visited a year ago!!! Call a damn plumber!!

Blond dude with short hair and a black moustache threw the receipt at us. Tom H, dont ever intentionally spill a drink on us again.

Great bar. Its laid back. Definitely my kind of vibe but dont be fooled. Theres no food here. Dont go thinking there is. Zero food.

I have been coming to Green Lantern for over 20 years. This used to be my favorite bar in DC. But the covid pandemic completely changed this place. It used to be a chill hangout for a more middle-aged crowd. But now they are trying to be a dance club. I understand they pivoted their strategy to meet economic changes and needs. But:1) **** the music in the bar ares (separate from the dance space) is often turned up so loud that everyone just screams WHAT???... WHAT??? to each other until we leave(this issue is not unique to this bar, but new here compared to years past); who wants to go be social somewhere that you cant even talk to each other2) **** the staff smokes (illegally of course) behind the bar and sometimes in my face, and management walks around not doing anything about it; this leads to various patrons also smoking in the bar

Neat little hole in the wall place. Hugo was a great bartender, prices were good and drinks were generous.

We dont have bars like this back home 👀 Go and see for yourself why everyone says it is the top bar in DC.

It was time to celebrate after covid and I made sure to hit this place up nightly when in DC. from karaoke to full on second floor dance parties there is everyone and everything here to celebrate fully. The bartenders are wonderful and we appreciate the amounts of red wine we consumed while enjoying our times here. Thank you!

Note, only food here is free popcorn. Happy hour is 4-7 every day. All drinks $3.50 each!! Best deal in town!

Green Lantern was among the first bars I ever went to, so I can really only look at it with the cloudy eye of good memories. I like ending my night here, especially on a Saturday. The crowd downstairs is a lot more subdued (in a good way) compared to upstairs, where after 1:30am it has a relatively enthusiastic group there to dance and maybe participate in some light unmentionables. Both floors offer something extremely different, depending on your mood.

Coming from abroad where we have no gay bars, it was nice to really experience a gay bar. This one especially since you will have both worlds, a more relaxed section downstairs and a more clubby upstairs. Both were great experiences. We went there three times already and will be going back again when in DC

Very friendly and comfortable bar with customers of all ages. The staff is exceptionally friendly and helpful from the bouncer at the door to the bartenders who are engaging and great to talk with. This was my favorite bar here on my trip 5 years and still is. Michael took care of us last night with humor and attentive service. Its a very down home atmosphere in a city that can be daunting.

Great place with friendly staff. Nice vibe. Because of the “situation” bars have to sell food so they offer peanut butter jelly sandwiches, cheese sandwiches, and popcorn. Best damn cheese sandwich I’ve ever had. 10/10. Can’t wait to come back when the world gets back to functioning correctly.

Staff was incredibly welcoming and nice. We had just came from little gay pub and had a terrible service. The drinks here were amazing too. Highly recommend this place vs little gay pub. Definitely will return when in DC again.

It is the right place to have fun and be happy. The staff is very kind, the music is great and the people are friendly. — It would be ideal to have more Latin music.

Came in with my Roomfie for a night out. Drinks were strong (and I’m fr) and they have a lot of fun events. Cute venue and I like the first floor/second floor different vibes- there rlly is something for every crowd. Everyone I met was so friendly and the staff was kinda and efficient

Visiting DC, friend and I stopped in. When standing downstairs we got sprayed in the face, as well as our drinks, with burning hot water/bleach from the dishwasher machine. No apology or new drink offered. Went to the bathroom to clean the chemicals off my face. Interesting experience I guess.

I went to the green latern a week ago on a Friday evening, and upstairs it was absolutely popping. The energy was great, and the music choices were awesome. I loved the atmosphere! (The downstairs was a lot more quiet if you like that.

Its pride weekend and the local gay bars are expected to be on their A game. Unfortunately, last night patrons got word of the ac not working at the upper floor where Lobo was happening. It was extremely hot and sweaty upstairs. What made matters worse, they had a box fan and a open window. Instead of placing the box fan to blow cool air into the place... The box fan was for the bartenders. This made zero sense and I mentioned it to a bartender, who decided to blow off the advice and continue to make drinks. Remember GL, you could of had more tips and patrons upstairs, but instead focused on yourself. Thats not a wise business decision and pups were going near the window to cool off. Next time, focus on patrons comfort and be prepared with a backup.

Be careful and check your credit cards. If you want to be over charged for your drinks this is the best place to be! I have double charges for the same purchases, tip doubled as well. Its sad how they take advantage to just get extra money! Are the bartenders not being paid enough?? I will add a photo of the bartender to avoid.

This place plays music videos that look like they were produced on another planet. There is a couch in the corner that looks like its from the set of Friends. Staff were helpful. The main bathrooms are up a flight of stairs. The ground floor has a bathroom too but its a very small one and it is up two large steps. Not wheelchair accessible.

I use to visit this bar , it was so nice in the past , recently the old man with white hair and big belly , may be , the manager or the owner , not sure, is very rude with the people in there , the reason of their business. The night of the rough house they close the bar without any reason , they didn’t say a word , and even , no entrance money back . It happened around 12 o clock. It is becoming like other bars in the city , better to stay at home . Awful experience .

Visited from out of state on a Sunday night. Greeted by an obviously intoxicated bartender (green hair and glasses) who yelled at us for being next to where he takes orders. He then played it off as a joke after my partner and I were visibly confused. Had a beer and left after we noticed he was downing leftover drinks from patrons. I get that this may be a local bar and it seemed like everyone knew each other and didn’t care that people were drinking on the job but to each their own I guess.

First time out in DC and this random find on a Thursday had be stripped and dancing in a room full of shirtless folk. No cover was a win and the bartenders upstairs pumped out inexpensive drinks in record time. Everyone was friendly.

When the directions involve, turn down this alley, one would imagine a pretty lively locale. Green Lantern was kind of a let down in that department. Its basically a bar...no one dancing...somber feel to the place. Made the mistake I suppose of going to Trade first and tainted my experience. It was during the Halloween Bar Crawl (not a participant) so maybe that took away from the normal nightly weekend crowd and the atmosphere. Id like to give it another shot, but it seemed slower paced and more for the older crowd. I mean Im old, but I anticipate a lively time when going out.

We hit up this bar after the Lady Gaga show! It had a great atmosphere and good drinks! We enjoyed dancing upstairs and the chiller vibe downstairs as well! Great experience!

I have only been here twice for the LOBO event that is hosted once every month. However, I can say that the place is well run with a focus on making sure people are safe and having fun. Its somewhere I look forward to go to and not feel anxious.

I think about this bar ever so often. I visited a couple months ago with a couple of my queer friends. I really had no knowledge of the bar, but my friend said he had a great time there, so I was excited. We went on a karaoke night during the week and the vibes were pretty chill. My friend and I were the only women in the entire bar but everyone was super nice. (imagine being a man walking into aloho lol) The drinks were strong and inexpensive! I remember my friend and I singing karaoke and the group in the bar was going crazy. we even got high fives afterwards lol! For a spur of the moment type thing this was a pretty good find. However, if youre young and looking to club in the middle of the week this is not the place for you. I personally dont mind the chill vibes though.

Love this bar so much!! I always feel welcomed here. Fantastic crowd and loving staff too. Plus, the drinks here are made by the best bartenders ever.

Came on a Monday night and disappointingly happened to be the only woman there; still, everyone was super welcoming and the staff were friendly and attentive. Entrance is tucked into a slightly sketchy looking alley, but otherwise I felt very safe the whole time. Overall I had a blast and hope to come back the next time Im in D.C. -- my one regret is I forgot to leave a generous tip!

Great time! Really great karaoke setup with a giant catalog. The people were great. Very fun karaoke host and the bartender let me borrow his iPhone charger when my phone died. We had a great night!!!

Came on a Sunday night for karaoke. Nick, the KJ only let men sing. I was with a group of straight people and waited 3 hours to sing 1 song, while some men sang 2 or 3 times. Worst karaoke bar we have ever been in, and we travel the USA. Nick did admit that he forgot about us.

Its more a club then a bar. Very noisy, entrap ce fee at weekend and not possible to talk to someone. Fahion victims a lot and guys who think that big muscles means being masculine 🤣🤣🤣

It was such a nice, crowded place. I have been here on the 4th of July. There was happy hour till 11pm. Free drinks if you take your shirt off! So that was nice. A mixed crowd, from early 20s to late 60s. Both tourists and locals. I would definitely go here again.

Friendly gay bar (this is not a club - I despise clubs) on two floors with very polite bartenders who provide quick service to all. Its been a gay bar for about 25 years. The patrons arent especially that good lucking (for the most part), but thats OK; they are quite friendly and the bartenders are cute! Older men and minorities who are gay need a place to go and be accepted and this is it. Prices at happy hour are very reasonable, and Thursday nights are crowded because of the free drinks they serve to all shirtless men between 10pm and 11pm. If you cant take off your shirt, you are still welcome, but youll have to pay for your drinks - no exceptions. Be sure to bring your ID - drivers license or passport, because all patrons are carded - even if you are over 70 or you know the bouncer. Conclusion - go and enjoy yourself - you wont be disappointed, unless you have an ego as big as the Donald!

Tonight there was an incident with one of the bartenders on the second floor ( black guy on the right side). I ordered a drink and I gave him my card. He served me the drink but I did not receive my credit card back and I asked him, he told me that he had not received my credit card. I insisted because I had given him my credit card and he later found it on the floor and returned it to me. when he returned my credit card he told me he was on the floor, I told him at least one sorry would be better and that triggered him to start insulting me to such a degree that he grabbed my full drink and threw it away in the bar. I felt completely humiliated, this is not a place that stands up to these things, but I want to complain because these things should not happen in a place where we are a minority and we are here to support each other. I dont know if I will return to this place but the owners should take these reviews seriously so as not to allow something like this to happen again

Absolutely best bar in town! Always a great crowd coming in. Downstairs has a very cozy atmosphere. They also have great DJs coming in for the dances. The bartenders are fantastic and quick. Love this place!

Went there last night and was shocked at how long it took to get a drink upstairs. The bartender left because he was overwhelmed and many people stood there waiting for over 10 minutes to get a drink. There should be a more efficient system of payment then looking for someone’s tab through the pile of receipts. Join the 21st century please.

My fiancé and I visit the DC area often and this was our first time at the Green Lantern. It can seem confusing to find, especially for an Uber Driver but is tucked away in a very well lit and clean alley. This is a pretty neat place! You basically get two bars in one. As soon as you go in downstairs, there is a square bar that fills most of the room. Something that caught me off guard was how nice the bar top is. If Im mistaken it was granite and they even have coasters! Very nice! I always enjoy a place that plays music videos to add to the scenery. The second floor features a tradition wall bar as well as a modest sized dance floor with a decent sound system. They do have a coat check in the back of the second floor so dont worry about bringing your coat. The crowd was very mixed but is definitely not the super young gays club. They seemed to have a mixture of all ages and everyone seemed very comfortable. The drinks were a little higher priced than I was expecting but didnt disappoint. Great location downtown and Im sure we will be back.

We only went to this bar one night during a short stay in Washington. On the face it this bar may not seem like anything special tucked away in a back alley, but we had a great time. It was midweek, but still relatively busy and clearly had a number of locals frequent the bar. Very friendly and a good place to start the evening for a couple of drinks.

I didnt know what to expect. But it turned out to be more than I expected. The lighting was good, music and entertainment was nice but not overwhelmingly loud but just perfect to keep you occupied while waiting for your party. Seating is available at the bar, ( bar counter goes all around the bar) and seating for 2, 4, and somewhat booth seatings for more. Good selection of beer and liquor and a decent price. Id definitely recommend as a frequent. I always go everytime I visit DC.

My friend and I visited during Black Gay Pride. All the clubs where the hottest parties were going on were charging an arm and a leg to get in and we were running low on cash so we went with the Green Lantern which had no cover that night and decent online reviews. Its not fancy, but the staff was nice and the crowd seemed friendly enough. We met some interesting people, enjoyed the dance floor, and had decent drinks.

Figured Id leave my review from last time I was here a few years ago on a semi regular basis. Great place. Never didnt have fun. More contact than an Atlanta strip club.

This is the only thing close to a Bear hangout in DC. Craig, the bartender is friendly and makes great drinks. Theres a lively cast of regular patrons who are friendly and interesting. The bar runs events on a frequent basis that helps to keep things fresh. Only downside is the filthy bathroom and overflowing toilets. Clean that up and youll have a real gem on your hands!

We went to this bar 2 mature guys 50 yo from NYC I have my Driver license with me ,my friend has digital DL with him and his credit card with his name on it, we were no able to get in just because his ID was digital ,horrible experience security guy toldIs to get a taxi back to the hotel get the id card to get in. Was ridiculous funny you lost business we didn’t come back

On Jan 9, 2022 the bartender downstairs took a $58 Tip on a $17 tab without my authorization. My bank confirmed it was unauthorized, and I will be reporting them to the Better Business Bereau.

I visited Green Lantern for the 1st time on a Monday and its a lovely crowd with an enjoyable atmosphere. The D.C. Sisters were having karaoke night to raise money for non profits and I 100% fully support this. Will definitely be back for another visit in the near future.

Lost my wallet here and they refuse to answer the phone! Been calling non stop the past 4 days

This is one of my favorite haunts when Im in DC! The people and staff make you feel so welcome. I live in a small town in NC and Ive been here a hand full of times but one of the bartenders still remembers me. Its not a gay club, its more like a gay version of Cheers, which is quite refreshing in this day and age.

Ive only been to the Green Lantern once. It has a very social sort of vibe; you can go there without knowing anyone and actually meet people. The karaoke was fun, low-pressure, and not too loud. Its definitely a bear bar, and thats not really my scene. The major turnoff, however, was that one guy decided to get way too touchy.

Very deaf and disability friendly staff and clientele but second floor has bathroom and stairs if you can not do stairs at all,I dont recommend. I had a great time but I can clamber up stairs especially with a bit of help with my equipment.

Average bar, little sketchy depending on the night. Drinks are good, but you definitely pay for them. Karaoke nights surprisingly aren’t bad with the sisters there on Mondays.

I went on karaoke night. The crowd was enthusiastic, and there seemed to be regulars there. It was fun! Then I went upstairs and sat down. The apparent doorman (who I didnt see, because he must not have been manning his post) walked the entire length of the room to tell me he forgot to charge me the $10 cover. He let me stay free of charge, but then why did you shame me? It was an honest mistake. He couldnt own that he just wasnt doing his job. Its treatment like this... His hostile approach felt accusational and violent. I didnt stay for their little $10 party even though I got in for free. You didnt do your job, and I wasnt even checking for holes in your security to find that out. Eck! I feel like Id sue them if I could.

Dont charge a cover for a DJ if youre not willing to upgrade to a proper sound system. Dont let the manager work as a bouncer when theyre drunk

As a female ally Ive been to alot of gay bars and have never felt uncomfortable. I went to this place to grab a drink with my gay best friend while we were in town and had a weird experience. They were having a jox party upstairs and we went up after asking if it was ok, since we werent in costume, and paid to go in. We had a great time for a while then a man, who wasnt even in a jock strap, ask me if I was having fun. I said yes then he proceeded to tell me I wasnt welcome and there. We left after that. As someone that has always advocated for equality that really just left a bad taste. I dont think Ill be going back there.

Very friendly to me. I was nervous on the walk to the place but as soon as I stepped in the bartender was warm and welcoming. Felt like home.
