First time visiting this place and I fell in love! First of all, the staff was too lit! It had to be about 7 birthdays and the staff delivered Grammy Award Winning performances each and every time! They had biggest smiles, great energy and sang with so much confidence and care. It was like they were having more fun than the birthday people and I love to see it! The food was amazing and affordable with a wide selection of menu options. Bottle services are available and YES! we bought champagne. What better way to keep it on ice at a Mexican restaurant?! A Corona bucket! They had a whole separate menu just for party options in case you wanted a night cap. Overall, the ambience, decor, staff and energy of this place is fun, loving and super lit! I had so much fun here and it wasnt even my birthday. 10/10 would highly recommend (especially for birthdays)!!!
The best vibe and my favorite restaurant in DC. Brought my family here for my 21st birthday and they had a great time. Happy Hour is well priced and the staff is incredibly helpful and friendly. I look forward to coming back with everyone who comes to visit me in DC or just for a good time out. Highly recommend!
Food is absolutely not crazy. My stomach hurts, I dont know if its this place but anyway. 18% of the tip is already added to the bill. What a scam... What if I want to lower that because of bad service ? I cant... They guess that its always good service for us. Never be back here in my life.
Alero on U got big fans as soon as we walked in. I have dined here in both big and small parties, on packed days and during slower periods, and the amazing customer service never falters. Staff, including management, bring an inviting and energizing vibe to the space and are super helpful if youre undecided in what to get for food or drinks. The chips and the margs (doesnt matter the flavor or if frozen or on the rocks) are to die for! You cant go wrong with the rest of the menu either. A great choice if youre catching up with friends, trying to catch the game, or want to pregame before going out for the night.
Such a dope time! The staff was phenomenal! Very friendly and accommodating. Made my sisters birthday one to remember. The food was so delicious. Definitely coming back here next time I’m in DC
Very reminiscent of Don Pablo’s (RIP). Happy hour is the time to go with your friends! Enjoy some cheap drinks, delicious food and enjoy yourself. My experience was very pleasant and was further amplified with the friendly staff. The bartender was very cool and easygoing. I ordered fresh guacamole and to my surprise it prompted a very talented young man who came by the bar and made the guacamole from scratch. It is always better this way folks and I just don’t know why….For my dinner I got chimichangas and while I’ve had it before from other places their steak that was inside was out of this world.Had it not been for distance I’m sure I’d return to this location plenty more times, but I’m grateful for the experience I had. Thank you!
The food at Alero Restaurant was absolutely delicious. I had the chicken tacos pastor and they were some of the best Ive had in DC. The chicken was cooked perfectly and the tacos were flavorful and filling. The tacos came with rice, beans, and guacamole and they were prepared to perfection. The total cost of my meal and two tequilas was around $47.The service was impeccable. Alvaro was very attentive and friendly. He made sure that we had everything we needed and that we were enjoying our meal. He also told us about some of the specials and recommendations on the menu. The atmosphere was fun and festive. The restaurant was decorated with colorful Mexican decor. They also brought out some instruments to celebrate a fellow patrons birthday. The overall vibe was very welcoming and inviting.I highly recommend Aleros to anyone seeking a delicious Mexican meal. The food was delicious, the service was impeccable, and the atmosphere was festive. Ill definitely be back.
LOVED IT HERE. The vibes are immaculate its a very fun atmosphere and the kitchen is open late. The service is extremely quick, the drinks are great, and the prices are good. I had the Miami Vice Daquiri and it was as thick as a smoothie. The enchiladas were also delicious and comes with guac! Highly recommend.
Alero was an old favorite of mine but I stopped going because they had roaches and then when I got my food there was a bite taken out of my quesadilla. A couple months later I decided to finally go back because my friends wanted a drink. This man at the bar offers to buy my friend and I drinks and at first we decline because we were drunk and so was he. After repeatedly begging to buy them we caved in and said yes and then the bartender made sure to confirm with the man that he was going to pay since he was intoxicated. Then when the bill comes the guy declines to pay and the manager threatens to call the cops on my friends and I saying we were lying. The bartender would not back us up and tell her manager that she confirmed he would buy it and that we declined multiple times. Then the manager took the guys side saying we had to pay even though he was the one who put in the order. I know this was clearly racism because he kept trying to say the man was too drunk to order when the man had been buying us multiple margaritas while he only had ONE beer so he was clearly not too drunk. I believe the manager and staff could have handled the situation way better. If a bunch of girls are not even ordering and the man told the bartender multiple times that HE wanted to buy the drinks after we had declined multiple times then this should not be an issue. Obviously we were still going to pay for the drinks even though we were wronged, however we just wanted to get our point across but he would not listen to us without threatening to call the police which was even more racist. The alero management and staff can count their days because they are too dirty and infested with bugs to be treating their customers like trash.
Never thought this place could be so bad. The service was slow and I needed to wait a lot every time for the waiter. But the most annoying thing was when they changed us to the roof back. According with them because it should to be like that (there were not crowded or something like that). Interestingly, in that back roof, other people with same characteristics like us were there (I mean, looks like their guidance to seat people is according with the stereotypes). Other weakness was when I asked for the check: they did not print it, just came with the total amount and the payment terminal! (How supposed you can see what they are charging on you? Never seen this before).BTW, the last point, and probably the worst, was that they charged on me the 15% of tip, instead of the 10% that I authorised! So crazy!Never back again but the most important, I will tell my relatives, never go there! Was a totally mess! The food is not the best and is quite expensive (for what they offer)I warning you, do not go there!
Alero is a beautiful place, but the host was a moody guy and clearly unhappy to be there. We waited for almost 15 minutes and nobody came to get our order. Not even a glass of water was offered. I didn’t know who was our waitress, so after sometime I asked another one if we could order our food. He said our waitress would come soon. I asked a second one and he said the same. The restaurant wasn’t busy at all… Finally our waitress show up: the moody host. And he came with an even worst attitude.I gave up and left. If the service was that bad upfront, why I would take the risk with the food? Too many great options around to waste time there.
Stopped to check it out after a show across the street. Service was attentive, refilling our water often and bringing chips and salsa, even though we only stopped for a drink. Would try them another time for food. The atmosphere is fun, music was great.
Absolutely beautiful restaurant. Decor and service are top-tier. The food and drinks was delicious. The waiters were very attentive and friendly. And very Handsome! Definitely recommend checking out.
Came for a late night drink and wasnt denied. Not only that, felt at home and the service was fair. Great, but when I say fair, I was treated like a patron and not a dollar. Thanks to Pablo for serving a great drink and I told him to give me what he thought was the best margarita in the house... had the nerve to serve me freaking Topaz!!! But it was AWESOME! THANKS FOR A GREAT EXPERIENCE 🙂
I came in on June 6 around 930. It was my birthday and I hadn’t been to Alero’s in a few years. It was an old fave so I was looking forward to revisiting after so long. Everything seemed ok until it was time for our food to come out. We got our drinks then my ex got her food but mine never came. I ordered the steak and chicken nachos and it was never delivered to our table. So after tracking the server down, we let him know but he tried to convince us that it was sent out. It took about 20 minutes for a manager to come speak to us and offer to remake my order. I declined and just asked to have it removed from our tab. The lack of urgency. The lack of attention and the lack of resolution along with the increased prices for items that aren’t worth half the money is why I will not be returning.
After being sat we were brought chips and salsa, however after 10 minutes we had to ask someone who our server was as we were never helped. The food tasted good and came out pretty quick after we ordered. Atmosphere is pretty loud so a bit difficult to have conversation. When making payment the server has to stand and watch you make your tip which always makes me uncomfortable. The first option for tip was also 22% which to me is pretty high for the “expected”. Prices are to be expected of a downtown restaurant. 2 margaritas and 2 entrees was roughly $80
The place is really welcoming and festive ! We liked the lay out and the restaurant is extremely big! Our food came out in an ok time but it wasn’t that hot or sizzling how a skillet is supposed to . & I feel they’re a bit over priced for the amount of food they give . Our waiter wasn’t the best. He often forget to bring back a few things we wanted . But the food was ok. I would still recommend. I just think we need to go back and try again.
Food is acceptable (nothing special). Service was excellent but music was so loud we couldn’t wait to leave. They need to figure out what they want to be; are you a restaurant or are you a club? Playing music that loud is ridiculous. We could’ve spent so much more money but ended up leaving because of the loud music and so did the table next to us
Alfredo was absolutely amazing service for us! Really enjoyed his recommendations and the group frozen margarita pitcher. Beautiful atmosphere and great happy hour deals as well. We will be back, to see Alfredo!
I have walked past this restaurant for nearly a year and finally went in. I was a little disappointed. Never a fan of yellow queso. It was alright. Chips were ok. Strawberry lime margarita was good but I needed the combination of the chips, queso and margarita to be good. Oh well. I was looking for my new favorite place but didn’t find it. Pressing on to find the best margarita, chips and queso. Next time, next place, stay tuned!!
I have been here for happy hour several times and its amazing. But this review is for brunch on Sunday. $30 dollars get you a buffet brunch and pitchers of unlimited mimisoa. The food is awesome. The severs are so quick and you never have to ask for anything. The best part is that it was not crowded. All the food on the buffet was fresh and hot. I will definitely be back.
Service was great. Drinks and food came out quickly. Great atmosphere as we had some appetizers and drinks before heading to the Lincoln for a concert.
The waiter messed up my drink, told me to try it and see if I liked it. Expect juice when you order their frozen margaritas. You will not get buzzed at all if that’s what you’re looking for. The tacos we tasted definitely needed better seasoning (didn’t even bother finishing it). There are long wait times for drinks. However, the place turning into a nightclub after 12am saved this review.
The steak tacos are absolutely legendary.. I always have a great time here.. its a solid go to for great food and drinks. I was told to come back on the weekend...theres a dance floor.
The atmosphere is nice, the food is amazing, but after coming here for weeks you’ll notice a certain type of people who frequent the restaurant, always acting crazy, who have no manners, and disrespecting the staff. There’s a lot of overly aggressive people that come in here, and it ruins the vibe of the place when most of the people from that type of people are actually respectful, calm, and polite. I hate to say it but those people here do not represent real those people across DC or across America. These are the worst free loader type of those type of people, who lie, cheat and steal, just like in all the literature you learned about in school. They then go write reviews saying this place is the problem, no it’s you. You are the problem. Stop coming here and being trashy, then acting like an entitled person. Be real, don’t be fake. Keep it real those people, or you will never be respected or taken seriously. Keep your trashiness to yourself.
I love coming to Aleros! The staff is always so friendly, attentive, the food comes out quick and hot. The food here is so good, the drinks are good, the prices are reasonable, the quantity of food are great portions for each plate. The music is entertaining, when its your birthday they make a big deal and sing to you and play instruments. The location is directly across from the metro, this place is always clean. Whether you come for brunch or to party at night, its place is great.
My friend came here the other day with a few of her other friends. She was expecting good food after a long day of work but instead the food here tasted like shyt wid the piss ! The food was mushy soggy and tasted like it was undercooked. She was very disappointed with the food and this gonna be the last time she going there !
Nice spot, nice vibes.. gave it two stars because the service was not great and it was complaints about our food.. btw, I went on taco Tuesday but it wasn’t very busy.. my food was good!! My homegirl didn’t like her tacos (chicken tacos, soft shell), she said they were disgusting.. my other homegirl got tacos (shrimp tacos, hard shell) and she said they were great.. my homeboy said his salmon was fire but it was 4 mins over cooked (he’s a chef).
I LOVE this place!!! Staff was great and so was the food! Drinks loved em!
Very lively & fun spot! Stopped in while celebrating my daughters 21st birthday for drinks on a Saturday night. Sat inside where DJ was playing great music (mix of top hits & Latin music). Drinks were delicious, a little pricey. Our server James was attentive & friendly, and they seemed to be well staffed & on top of everything. Only had the complimentary chips & salsa since we had eaten elsewhere prior. They really celebrate birthdays in a unique way, we had fun! Would return!
Alfred was amazing! It was my friends birthday and we had the best time. He was so kind and friendly
Just ate here randomly visiting from out of town. Food was Superb! I had the ribs, wife had the steak, kids had different quesadillas and all of them were delicious. Yuka fries and rice with the steak were also great!Wonderful atmosphere with a spot on wait staff always taking care of us and on a busy new years eve night. 0 complaints, all of it was excellent. And an awesome Playlist was playing all night long as a bonus.Highly recommend.
Don’t expect much with the food, quality isn’t great. But drinks are strong and decent.
Ambience was great, and I loved the Frieda Kahlo art on the wall. The drinks were amazing, but when it came down to the food, a rating of 6/10 will do. The ceviche was was too tart that it was rendered inedible. I love ceviche and was so disappointed that this fell short of expectation.I am willing to go back and give it one more try.
Ok this is an update: 06/30/2024. Went in, not crowded sat at the bar with my friend, we live a block away. I was shocked, beyond shocked when I saw the prices. Ok, they do not add the 20% fee at the end like a lot of other restaurants, which I very much appreciate. However, the prices were off the charts. I would guess, 90% of the menu was over $20, except things like a cheese quesadilla or tacos. I prefer that restaurants increase their fares to compensate for the new pay laws as opposed to adding a mandatory 20% fee at the end. But Alero went tooooooooo far this time. I would never waste that much money on Tex-Mex (one of the cheapest foods to make). Never again!Ate at Alero on U Street last night. Food was good as always. However, if I wanted to see trashy disrespectful people, Ill watch COPS on TV. We had just received our order when two women (I hesitate to call them that) and a man came in the one female yelling at the top of her lungs and kept yelling and yelling. I immediately asked for a to-go container and the check. It took security over twenty minutes to come and address the issue which lasted a whole 30 seconds. Management NOWHERE TO BE FOUND!Tonight 10/12/2022 I sat at the bar with an empty pitcher and an empty glass, hoping to eat dinner but 20 minutes later and not a single ounce of service. The manager tried to get me to stay by offering to pay for my drink but I was hungry and left to go get food at a respectable restaurant.
Horrible first time experience. Went there with a friend after a comedy show, waiter asked for our ID’s, gave him mine but my friend had left hers at home so we asked if they accept it on her phone (MD DL so it’s scanned into her Apple wallet). He said they don’t, it has to be physically present. Saw him serve other tables and not once did I see him ID them. He also took a while to bring out the one drink I ordered, and didn’t bother to ask if we wanted to order food.
My husband and I finished a night out on U street here and it was amazing!! The food was delicious. But what makes this place special are the employees. Everyone we talked to was so gracious and hospitable. There are wonderful people working so hard to make this restaurant run. We will definitely be back.
Love Alero’s atmosphere. Francisco our server is very nice and accommodating. The food and drinks are great
After one bite the combination (shrimp, chicken, and steak) fajitas left a bad taste in my mouth when I notified the sever they informed me the manager would come then another server came out and could not address my concerns. Then a real manager said they can take 10 or 20 percent off and returned the same plate with a few more peppers. Absolutely terrible I do not recommend first and last time
Fun vibe. Reasonable prices, especially at Sunday happy hour. We enjoyed our food and margaritas. Good chips and salsa. I would definitely come back again.
I had my birthday brunch here at this location yesterday, the decorations inside was so cute, The bottomless mimosas were really good, I had the steak fajitas and the quesadillas were the best Ive ever had. Our server was Julian he was the best! Ill definitely be coming back here.
Lomo saltado is small for 30 bucks. I could count the fries on one hand maybe. The rest were eaten already.I just dont understand why the bartender guy said this was good, or even to recommend it, when this is a Mexican restaurant. Recommend your best! Dont just tell the customer hes right. Or just take it off the menu if no one is Peruvian back there..It was good and tasty but not good in value. Especially at a drinking establishment and we are being skimped on frozen fries? Plus tiny beans and tiny rice portion..Michelada mix was also little..I understand food prices but seriously? I didnt even mention the steak pieces were little a few scrapes it looked like I shouldve taken picture. > usually give my dogs leftover meat pieces for later at home..but there was nothing leftover on the plate this time.. because I ate it !!On top of it all yes I was still hungry! 50 dollar meal crazy.. Cmon now.. ?!?!Also need to show bill before just making us sign. Felt like I was being rushed out. No bueno.
So Mike the security guard likes to argue with the women even though no one was talking to him and he threatened to get his wife and we told the staff and the staff did nothing about it. I felt very unsafe my family and I so we had to leave the restaurant before we even finish our meal.
If you’re going there to get lit! Be my guest! It’s a great place to order pitches, celebrate birthdays, get liquored up. They even have a cute celebration they do for people. I personally am not the fondest of Spanish food but the quesadillas here pretty standard idk. But I love the drinks and the ambiance. The service was standard/ they be on it. Parking is a hit or miss because you know how u street corridor cN get. Double check wait times because sometimes that line drawls :) affordable pricing
Excellent drinks, terrible food, & questionable service. The busboy nearly took my right arm off 3x and our waitress was oblivious to everything. Definitely not worth the 18% gratuity.
Great service & food. We arrived and were immediately sat and greeted by our server. I had the chicken quesadilla with the house margarita (on happy hour). The complimentary chips and salsa were very tasty. The DJ as advertised on their website does not arrived until 10:00. I will definitely be back.
Javi is a great waiter! I will definitely come back here! This my fav spot!
Food is so good! The atmosphere is so fun and nice! Haví is especially nice and informative.
Im very disappointed with Alero Ust. I frequented this restaurant at least 2 times a month. I went on a Saturday after craving the Chef Fajitas. We were seated and waited 20 mins if not more for a waiter to come take our order they never came. When we asked the waiter Im our area when can we order he said he had to look for our waiter. Im highly disappointed that one of my favorite restaurants did this to us. Now Im still craving chef fajita and a swirl. 😒😒 Its even more disappointing that we drove around for almost 30 minutes looking for parking and had to walk 6 blocks to not get service.
I really want to give this restaurant more stars but to be honest, the food isn’t good at all. It’s not seasoned, the pina colada’s are absolutely nothing to brag about and I’m so surprised this place is always busy. I’ve been to this location numerous of times and the food never taste fresh. My chicken is always dry and the fajitas are beyond underwhelming. I cannot recommend this place.
I wish we had a place with this vibe in Florida!!! Great food, excellent service and the music was great!!
Francisco was so helpful and accommodating. The food came out quickly and had great presentation!
This establishment has been a great go to. The staff and food has been awesome. During the pandemic they have been able to still deliver great customer service. From making sure the staff is safe to the guests. Kevin the security does a great job maintaining the crowd. The waitress Yuri (I recommend) is fast and efficient. Every time I stop pass she goes above and beyond to make sure the group I’m with is satisfied. Very appreciative for all her help. Ask for Yuri you won’t be disappointed
Came to Alero on U St. to celebrate our daughter’s birthday. It was all around a great evening. First, the atmosphere and vibe is vibrant and fun. Also, the service was fantastic. Our server, Alvero, was friendly and attentive. Our food came quickly. Finally, the food was good and margaritas were tasty as well. Definitely will go back.
Random man walks in just stand there looking at me and my woman until I asked can I help you then the staff gets involved......🤔
So the food here is always top-notch magnificent delicious. I’m not sure of the season as they use but it’s always absolutely worth it. Especially for that price. It is so fulfilling and worth your time now for the drinks they do get you where you need to be but I can admit that you will be a little hung over because I’m not sure what type of liquor they use but I’m pretty sure it’s cheap because of how Turnt that you will feel. I suggest that you get the high quality liquor in your drinks if you do not want to be hung over. I also like that they are changing their hours on weekends and having five dollar shots and five dollar tacos the time will be from 11 AM until 3am. I cannot wait until summer time in Washington DC because this is my favorite place to visit and grab a frozen margarita also a great social spot for friends or a big party
The food is absolutely disgusting. Worst Mexican food I have ever had in my life. Not only is it unauthentic but it’s bland and not well cooked. The service is subpar as well. I promise you you’re better off going to one of the many Mexican restaurants they have in Columbia heights.
I simply love Alero’s hands down. The food, the drinks, the service, atmosphereare all great. I dine in, take out, and use delivery service. Always a win, win for me, family and friends.
Came here for Cinco De Mayo and paid $20 to get in and suppose to be on the waiting list to be seated and never got a table. Waited 2 hours and never got a seat or food. It was lit but customer service terrible. So sad because they have potential but not organized
Love this place but I was overcharged on Mothers day which happened to be my girls birthday also. Was charged extra for the small Coronas in the large tequila and charged for 4 beers I didnt order
Staff is so nice and margaritas are good! I came during RW so I know the menu was limited for that but I wish it had a vegetarian entree option. Everything was good though still that I did have and all my friends loved their meals too!
Alero is a mexican restaraunt in a great location for starting your night on the town. They also have great margarita pitchers. But when it comes to their food, its honestly just okay. Theyre not the best with understanding dietary restrictions, but they do have vegetarian and vegan options, but its is like pulling teeth getting them to understand what you mean.
It takes a lot to mess up pizza and Mexican food. Came here for happy hour on a Friday evening. Service was a little slow but not bad. Our waiter seemed pretty cool. The biggest issue I had is the menu seemed to be full of fine print that you needed to read before even deciding to eat here. Other than the slow service and the legal document of a menu the atmosphere was pretty cool and the food was decent. If you want to do a happy hour this place suffices
Great party atmosphere and felt pretty authentic. There was live music while band walked thru the restaurant. The margaritas I had were terrible, I tried two different ones, one with silver and one with gold tequila . They make their own tequila which may be more authentic and with the right margarita mix may be good but the drink mixes werent even slightly sweet so all I could taste was lime and tequila. The enchiladas were very average nothing special. I would go back to this place only for a party not for the food and Id prob recommend someplace different first.
I ordered by mistake, but they kindly refunded me when I called.
Food was GREAT, but WE were rushed. I totally understand the common courtesy of asking Can I get you anything else? But 15 times within an hour is way too many times to keep coming to the table in the middle of conversations (Yes 15 times, I counted). When people are out to eat, they also want to have a conversation while enjoying a meal together, not to be bombarded by the 5 waiters every 8 minutes. This made me and my friend feel as if we were being rushed, and heavily observed while eating. We were also told there was no Fresh Guacamole, yet our food came with fresh avocado. Point is, it seems as if we got the short end of the stick while the waiters embarrassed chuckles were added to the mix. Whatever happened to a complimentary thing when the thing you want the most isnt available and on top of that it isnt available FRESHLY! Oh, they call it pre-made but it was looking brown and had that weird pungent taste. Meh.
It was one of my unplanned visits on Christmas day 2019. Props for being open that night. It is a relatively big place with lots of tables and a bar. The food was good. Lots of vegetarian options(Spinach enchiladas in the picture). The service was amazing. They brought in a band for a couple of minutes to celebrate a customers birthday.
Really mid food but the drinks here are definitely amazing. This is great a pre-game spot 👍
So this was a plan B for us. We were supposed to eat at Tico D.C. Mexican Restaurant. Ambience was festive, food was fresh and very hot. Our waiter was attentive. Other patrons around us were very loud and obnoxious. Maybe not for kids, theres a chance that you might sit at our table top which had a painting of a topless maiden bearing her nipples. Over all, price was $$.
The service is terrible I had to wait 2 hours for my food , I kept asking my server how long for my food and she kept saying the kitchen was backed up , turns out they was never making my food , the manager didn’t make it any better because once I asked to speak with him he made it seem as if I was in the wrong , never received my food. The server was acting as if she was irritate cause I kept asking her where my food was. Huffing and puffing as I’m asking her questions about my order. Melissa has poor customer service as a server. Me and my friends are regular happy hour customers here. We will never come back because of the service. I will definitely be contacting corporate about the Alero on U st.
The most awesome service and food!!!! Gerardo was so nice and helpful! Ask for him he’s a king!!!
Went here past Saturday had a blast. Music wasnt loud plenty of room to dance. Drinks and frozen Margarita delicious. One con I would say is they dont seem to bring in a crowd unfortunately but definitely a must visit over Hawthorne which packs you in like sardines.
It WAS St. Patricks Day, so it was packed tight. The service was acceptable and the wait staff was cheerful and busy. The salmon was to-die-for good, the shrimp dish came with chicken (kind of dry), and the pork dish was kind of dry. The chips and salsa was great. The drinks (why we were there) were watered. The birthday song was great for everyone who had a birthday. I liked that and the beads. Fun crowd. Overall it was a good experience all things considered.
Alero is a great place to have good food and fun. Their Happy Hour is lively and relatively inexpensive. The portions are fairly sized and can be purchased for one or more to share without hesitation. The staff was so attentive. They seated us right away and checked on us regularly to make sure we had every thing we needed. Our glasses were never empty! I would definitely recommend this restaurant.
The service was excellent the waiter very attentive, excellent atmosphere, very clean, the drinks were delicious but only one thing was wrong the food we ordered tacos they were cold we returned them and they were worse. the kitchen needs more respect in food.
I have only came to this place for brunch so I am doing my review on the brunch. The food is some of the best I have had in this area for brunch, specifically the buffet. The buffet may not have the largest selection but what they offer is delicious. The mimosas are okay, but its bottomless so cant complain too much. Overall, the food is great, drinks are alright and the service was decent enough.
I just had an awful experience there tonight. I sat for 40 minutes and received nothing. Literally, my brother didn’t even get the coke he ordered. What really mad it worse was watching the waiter AND HOST being literally fed by their friends at the next table. Just eating and laughing it up. Not once did the waiter check on us and he actively covered the side of his face as he walked past our table to continue to talk with his friends at the next table. My drink hadn’t even been made by the time I was inquiring about it for the third time. I cut my losses at 40 minutes and left hungry with a hungry child in tow. Thanks Alero on U St.
So disappointed in them. I got my sister a $50 gift card for Christmas. I spent 25 minutes sitting in the empty restaurant while what I assumed to be the manager tried to figure out how to get me a gift card. My sister tried to use the gift card and it said it only had $1 on it. I have my bank statements showing that i was charged from the restaurant for proof. When it happened they were very nice to my sister and told her how i would go about getting a refund. I did everything they asked and they were very responsive at first. They have not been responding to my emails and this is over a week old. I have asked for constant updates and they continue to ignore my emails. I am not sure if they do not monitor the email or something but I will not be going back to Alero again. Ripped me off $50!
I came here on a recommendation of a friend to go dancing. Honestly it was pretty fun and I would recommend it to those who like contemporary (and popular) Spanish music. Though its a bit small it luckily wasnt particularly crowded. The drinks were alright and it was clean inside so it was an overall good experience. I havent been here during the day to eat so I can only speak on the Friday night experience.
Ridiculous LOUD music. Like I was in a club!!! We could not even talk at the table from the music blasting from the speakers. The food was good but definitively NOT coming back into this craziness again.
Went here to try the Happy Hour they have on their website - discounted drinks and appetizers. Once seated, we found out that they no longer do discounted appetizers, even though the website isnt yet updated. Food was mediocre. There are better places out there - this is probably a skip.
It was great. Since its one of few restaurants that has a Patio. Please be patience cause to accommodate tables. If your party isnt 3 or more in the time frame and your party isnt complete. So u will have to wait at least an Hour or more. My waiter was great tonight. It was my Birthday
Rainbow margarita was great. Food was pretty good and reasonably priced. My server was good too. Would come back
This is the second time Ive been there and it was the best time I had since the first time. I really enjoyed everything from drink, the food and especially the music. I hope Im able to celebrate my birthday in October. Thanks for a really great evening. Keep up the good work LOVE YOU GUYS AT ALERO🥰😘💗
Food was good but,we had to wait to get in...apparently our party had very high temperatures according to their thermometer my 3 year old temp was 110 my wifes was 108 and my mom and sister was also over 100 degrees. Really was upsetting. Ea waited for a while before we were allowed in to join the rest of our party who had already had appetizers.
I have been to Aleros twice. This is a great place to visit for a good time and good tacos! They have great steak tacos. Literally, this best steak tacos I have had in this area, easily. They have happy hour everyday of the week which is a major plus for me. Their frozen drinks are awesome. I have tried their hot wings and they are okay. They lose a star for me because they add gratuity automatically if your table has a tab over $60. It is not based on your party size.
Food was great, but not Texas TexMex. All guests in my party were carded at the door at 6pm on a Tuesday. Atmosphere was a bit loud. Staff was very pleasant. Dog friendly!
Came here when on holiday and whilst the food was quick and very nice with good service I did not appreciate a tip of 18% being added to the bill without our permission. I would rather decide for myself how much I should pay. I also felt the service was a bit rushed and they were keen to get us out the door quickly rather than having a relaxed meal.
Ive visited this Alero on a weekend night, happy hour and a weekday lunch.Nightlife--the atmosphere is so-so. Their margarita swirls are pretty good, but rather small in size. If youre looking to dance the night away, this isnt the place to go. Although loud and upbeat, the crowd is very lax, as there are plenty of seats everywhere.Happy hour and lunch - great happy hour food prices, but the food is nothing to write home about. No authenticity, just average.
Great food. Speedy service. Good drinks. Good music. Loved the atmosphere! After midnight they moved some of the tables out of the way to create a little dance floor. Btw, I ordered the seafood chimichanga which came with shrimp and scallops. Yummy. Everyone at my table (11 people) enjoyed their meal. I would definitely recommend anyone to make this place a spot to visit while in DC.
The happy hour specials on drinks are pretty rad. The food was average and definitely overpriced. $18 for a chimichanga is pretty outlandish, the portions arent enough to justify that either. Super expensive for Mexican food and nothing about the quality of it justifies the price. The atmosphere is cool though. Id recommend just going for drinks and eating elsewhere.
We went after a show at the Lincoln Theater next door. It was about 1030pm on a Saturday and it was hopping. The DJ was coming around midnight! The hostess seated us in the front corner by the windows, near the intersection. It was a nice spot w/ windows. We were the oldest people in the place. Everyone was less than 40. Within 15 minutes, 2 other tables of old people were seated in our corner. Ha! It was obvious that this was done on purpose which normally would be insulting but we just laughed. We enjoyed our table a lot, AND the music was less loud there. I dont know if they realized over time that people over 40 like it less loud? In that case they were accommodating and anticipating our desires. We had the standard Margaritas/ rocks/ salt. They were very good! No powdery mix flavor you get at some places. We got the queso app and it was small but decent tasting. It had that dried up film on top which needed to be stirred into the bowl. It was a C+ for flavor. The chips that came with it werent the usual. They were moist and more like bad pita!? They were definitely cold and greasy and old and not real chips, so we asked for more of the regular chips like you get w/ salsa. Salsa was good and had some peppery kick. I like mine very mild but the salsa had great flavor. The hostess, waitress, and water/salsa attendants were all A+! Fun place, loud music, cool pyramid style fire/heaters on the outside patios, big bar and dance floor. I would get drinks again, probably not food. Almost a 4 star depending on whether they seated us to do us a favor, or get us away from the regular clientele? Ha!
We had a great time bringing in the new year here. Still one of my favorite places to visit in DC when I come and want good food. They were having a party when we went. Definitely worth visiting and trying their drinks and food. Get the swirl margaritas and you wont be disappointed!
Delicious food! Excellent and fast service. We were in a rush to get to a show and needed a quick bite to eat. We were a little worried that we werent going to have enough time for a sit down restaurant but Alero had us in and out in no time. Highly recommend!!
I went for the first time a month ago and I loved it! When I went back Friday night. It was just ok. The BBQ sauce was different on the wings. Kinda tangy. And the waitress and manager didnt speak very good English. The quesadillas are GREAT though! And the people I was with loved the margaritas.
The margarita was really bad. I can honestly say that I’ve had better at Chevys. We had to sent it back after one sip and they still charged us. Then we ordered a medium rare steak and it came well done. They did replace it fairly quickly. The experience was not good BUT I would have to say that the server was really nice. — We won’t come back.
This spot is a good margarita stopover. Their food service is just okay. You can see people you know randomly sitting on the patio having a drink. They had a few racist incidents with management so people have slowed down coming.
Thoroughly skippable. Neither the food nor the drinks demonstrate any creativity or nuance, the prices you pay here are definitely for the location/ambiance, and not the comestibles. That said-it is loud, with lots of flashing colored lights, so don’t expect to have a sophisticated date night here.
The vibe is what makes Alero pop. The margaritas are ok, but strong, which is good. The food is more along the lines of Tex Mex than actual Mexican. I played it safe and got chicken tacos. They had a good flavor. I would go back, but more so for the atmosphere than anything else. Great servers!
Horrible service. I ordered an appetizer, requested twice, and had it served as my meal. By then I was full with chips. Everyone’s orders were served except mine. I waited about 5 minutes and asked where my plate was. They pretended they confused it with another plate. Funny cause I never got a plate. Not even the wrong order. By the time I got my plate everyone had already finished eating. And of course they had not even considered to take it off the ticket, or even considered taking the appetizer (that was served with our order) off the ticket. Sad cause the food seems pretty good. I don’t think our group of 10 will be back.
I am giving this place one star. Not because of the food — I’ve never eaten there and can’t speak to that aspect of the business. However, they need to get better nighttime security guards. I stopped by this place with friends and family recently Sunday night, and when we asked the guard working the entrance if we could use the restaurant’s restroom, he told us we had to send $5 to his PERSONAL CASHAPP for him to let us in. When we questioned him and asked is the restaurant okay with him charging potential customers a fee that’s going straight to his bank account, he got extremely rude. We even offered to buy some drinks inside so that we would be patronizing the business after using their restrooms vs. sending money to his personal account. Our offer was bluntly rejected.Again, I’ve never been to this restaurant so idk what the food/service is like inside, but they definitely need to get some better security guards that know how to talk to potential customers and aren’t holding the restrooms ransom for their own personal gain. Smh.
They were so welcoming and had such a good vibe!
Long wait for food, a bit overpriced for what you get, & having to take my credit/debit/ID card before we order is ridiculous. To top it off, the food was horrible. Me & my friend did not enjoy our food. So awful that we left our plates barely eaten. It was tasteless & the worst Mexican meal that I have ever had. A street vendor would have been much better. I will not return.
Typical Tex Mex food nothing really stood out, Margarita pitcher was watered down full of ice. Happy hour portions are extremely small. The only upside is the customer service. Very polite and attentive wait staff.
Omgeee! The staff was so attentive. Wilfredo is awesome. Super sweet and makes sure you are good all the time. Lourdes, the host, is great! Food and drinks are good. If youre are disappointed going here I dont know how. Go and enjoy!!!
Javi was an amazing waiter! Had a great time
I like this place. Its always a good place to get decent happy hour specials in the city. I like the wings, but their pre mixed margaritas are a little weak for my liking. More like theres nothing in them almost lol. Good vibe though can sometimes be a little too loud with the music. Ill go back again.
Im giving this place 4 stars strictly based of of my MANY happy hour experiences here. I mean seriously, if your looking for a super chill place to hang out after a long day, this is where you need to go. The drinks are super cheap the food isnt bad either. I love being able to sit outside in the patio area in the summer and people watch on U st.
This place has went down hill. They charge people of color 18% gratuity..kid you not ! I’ve heard of gratituity for party of 6..not 2 or 3. This happen to me three times here. Of course, each time I demanded removal. During this last occurrence I inquired why they did not add 18%gratuity to the caucasian couple beside us. The portions are smaller while the prices are higher. I will never come here again.
Service, food an drinks are a 10. This has become one of my favorite places for date night an a chill place to hang with friends. You will get your money worth trust me.
Im not sure why Id never gone to this place before. Weve seen it plenty of times and just walked by. We were wandering around the city and needed some food before a show at the 9:30 club and decided to try something different than the usual Duffys action. We walked in and were pleasantly greeted and quickly sat by the friendly staff. We dug through the Margarita menu and made random choices on the Passion Fruit half pitcher. Not bad for 20$. You get about 3 drinks in the pitcher so the price is about right. Sadly, it was hard to detect any drop of alcohol in it so Im rating it down for that. It was on the rocks people. You can judge how much youre putting in. Its not out of a machine! Now comes the food. I ordered the ribeye and ordered it med-rare. It didnt take too long to come out but if compared to a normal Mexican eatery it was slow. I will say that my steak was PERFECTLY cooked. Hot on the outside, warm even pink on the inside. It was great. Whatever sauce they put on top of it simply made my year. So freaking amazing. Ill definitely be eating this again.Service was pretty decent to average. We were checked up on plenty and there were bus boys walking around who also would refill your water for you. We never ran low and I drink a lot when I eat. I appreciated the top hats, although Im not sure if thats their daily thing or b/c it was December 29th and close to NYE.Tables were nice and clean, atmosphere was great. Plenty of space between tables even though it was a smallish room. I will say I hate that they have those annoying bathroom attendant guys trying to assist me in washing my hands. Go away! Ive been doing this for 28 years. I dont need your assistance or the guilt b/c I dont want to give you a dollar for you talking on your phone while I use the bathroom! Ugh! Pet peeve...
Food is not that great and Ive tried a variety of meals there. I found out from the waiter, after I had to send 2 meals back to the kitchen for not being cooked well and overall not good, that the food is prepared earlier in the day and when someone orders they just warm it up and serve it. I gave it 3 stars due to the atmosphere. Its a pretty lively place being as though its in the middle of U st.
This 2 is just because the service was nice and the environment welcoming but the food was a disaster. The guacamole was not fresh at all, the mole poblano sauce was mediocre, the chicken taste like it was frozen and reheated.. In general not good. Good margarita but a little overpriced.
Went to this establishment after 12am, but still wanted to grab something to eat. Their kitchen was closed, however our waitress said they were selling $1 tacos. The catch was there weren’t any toppings just the meat and tortilla (which was fine at the time). My friend and I ordered 4 tacos apiece but when the bill came out total was $40! When trying to clarify the error the manager proceeded to say $1 tacos didn’t exist and “Well Alero isn’t cheap.” Needless to say that will be the first and last experience with this establishment.
Cool venue in a great location. Our service was mediocre and drinks worse, but my brunch was tasty. I had the chilaquiles with salsa roja and besides being a bit soggy I really enjoyed it. The patio is a great spot to sit and people watch on a nice day.
This was my first date 5 years ago so this will always hold a special place in my heart. But tonight was a let down with flavor of food and premium margaritas. Got more of a stomach ache than tipsy from a $61 pitcher. Maybe it covid but hopefully you improve.
Seems like a pretty poppin place. Appetizers and drinks were great. Staff are attentive and friendly. My steak is where Alero went wrong. Ordered a medium rare steak. Im sure they cooked it to medium rare on the grill... but they serve it on one of those hot fajita skillets... which cooks the steak even more... why? It was also served with a whole chorizo sausage, which was a bit dry. I dont know that Id come back for dinner, but for some evening apps and drinks, most definitely!
Food Was Great And Everything Else As Well. But its sad that i regret going there because of the poor customer service i & my family experienced and not only from the waiter but from members of the team as well.I would never recommend a birthday their especially a family members at that.Very Bad Experience For My Sisters Birthday. From my experience it looks very clear that they judge you in race.I could not not kill the moment for my sisters birthday and tell the waiter that it was her birthday and that i wanted them to sing happy birthday and with sombrero just like the other 3 birthdays i saw while being in there. So i fake went to the bathroom and got the attention of a guy that works there and by the time he went to go tell my waiter it was when he was next to me and waiter said NO because they did not tell me in the table or in the beginning. I even offered to pay extra as long as they do not bash my sisters birthday surprise.
Small portions and extremely expensive.. I paid $56.00 for a suppose Large Fajita meal for two and receive one portion of rice and 1 portion of beans and 6 Tortillas with cost of $0.50 for each additional. Chicken portion was like 6 onces, Steak about 4 ounces, Shrimp 5 pieces, Rib 4-5 inches in size, about 3-bones extremely small. Rice tasted like minute rice. Had no Authentic Mexican Dishes.. Its more like the expensive version of Qdoba. The lady which sat us didnt make us aware that happy hour specials ended at 7pm. Small restroom for restaurant size.. Waiter was doing his job not as attentive. Busboy was more attentive then our waiter n waited on us a few times. Busboy had great customer service..
The food is doubtfully fresh, not authentic and very expensive for the quality, the place is beautiful and the service do their job as well but yeah that’s that.
Washingtonians tend to hate or love this Alero location - its busy, its loud, and its crowded. WHY PEOPLE LOVE IT - With one of the best late happy hours from 3:30p - 7:30p nearly every day, its one of the best go-tos if you are still in the mood to go out after brunch or are looking for a cheap turn-up location before dinner or the club. The margaritas!!!!! WHY PEOPLE HATE IT - The happy hour menu is not the best and almost all the food on it you can get better at another place. The service tends to be slow and a little non-personal. So in the end, just know what you are looking for before you go.
The food was great, the atmosphere was great but the service is terrible. The waiters are scam artists they put the highest tip available for themselves when they dont do anything. He didnt check on us, he kept touching my shoulder when he spoke to me it was very annoying.
A couple friends and I went here now that their outdoor patio is open and it was amazing! They provided a sanitary experience with hand sanitizer and temperature checks. Our waiter Roni was attentive and made the experience so fun. Really recommend coming out if you can.
Ordered the shrimp fajita which I’ve had several times before but this time it taste significantly different. It smelled and had a flavor of alcohol (beer). I called the restaurant as I can’t stand the taste of beer and explained to the mananger what I was experiencing. She later told me that the chef had soaked the vegetables in wine, which I’ve never heard of before. I don’t necessarily have an issue with this marinade process, just inform your customers and state it in the items description (which is isn’t). This was not what I order or could tolerate to force myself to eat. They did not want to refund me which ultimately ruined the experience. I’ll never visit this location again.
Did not seat because were gay.
The food was good but their customer service could use a MAJOR improvement. I came in with my family on September 3rd, we all had a good time. When it came time to pay we told our server Angela that it would be separate checks and told her how to split up each check with our payment methods ready. We all left the restaurant full and happy. Now what’s the problem you ask? I looked at my account an hour later to see I’ve been overcharged for my meal. I tried contacting the restaurant for SEVERAL days to get the issue fixed but, NO ONE would answer the phone. My family and I decided to come in and fix the problem. We arrive BACK to the restaurant Monday to talk to a manager which was Ms.Julita. Hoping she could fix the issue. Ms.Julita was nice at first but then later informed us how as a manager she was unable to give me my refund and to give her all my information and she will call me back later that evening to handle the overcharge once the other manager comes in.TWO DAYS LATER: Ms.Julita FINALLY calls me about the overcharge and says, “the server (Angela) charged me for my meal AND one of my party members meal and to ask one of the members in my party to give me the money back as the easier option to getting my money back.” After going back and forth with Ms.Julita and telling her how her server made a mistake and how I won’t go and ask one of the members of my party for the money back, she FINALLY agreed to give me my refund. At this point I wanted to speak to the general manager and have the corporate manager number she refused. Saying “ I’m trying processing your refund now, I was just giving a suggestion for something easier to get your money back.”How could this get worse you may ask? EASY, they overcharge my card AGAIN! My ACTUAL total should’ve been around $30 considering I didn’t get much. I was charged $57.57 for the FIRST overcharge, after talking to Ms.Julita they ACTUALLY charged me 66.99!!! Now my account is NEGATIVE.This was my FIRST and LAST time going to Alero on U st. I’m very disappointed and appalled at the customer service at this “family oriented” establishment!
Ive been here a few times. Service was great, server was attentive and friendly. Food was good, not as spicy as I wouldve preferred, but was better after I added some hot sauce. Mojito was terrible. I expected a better crafted mojito since it was a Mexican restaurant. It tasted like lime juice and water. I was hoping it was better than their Margarita, which I had on a previous visit. I asked for a beer instead and they didnt charge me for the mojito..
I was here for New Years after midnight so my review reflects the circumstances. It was a great party for dancing. It felt much more like a club. As any club, it was hard to order at the bar, but it was better organized that other places, bar tenders were kind, they were not watering down drinks, but bathrooms were a bit of a mess.
The fish tacos were actually really good but the service was a little disappointing. My margarita, while most would not complain, was WAY to strong for me to enjoy with my meal so if I were taking shots, great, but dining? so so
Happy hour specials at Alero are generally this same as far as the different locations; consistency is nice. The one here on U Street is a particularly live scene. It is crowded on weekends, but its cool that the patio is available even when its late.
It looked like it would be a great option (after a Sunday afternoon of food related Ls), but it did not turn out to be for me and my friends. The service was exceptionally slow (but it wasnt that busy) after being seated the waiter wasnt quite on his CS game, the food when it came was not hot, and the drinks (which didnt come until the food) were a major let down from a mixology and temperature standpoint. All of these things were unexpected for a joint on U street, coming off of a semi-holiday weekend.I typically give places and things up to two tries before deeming them not worth my time, but I cant muster enough to revisit this establishment at the prices that were paid to see if it was a fluke.
It was my first time back in 10 years and its good to know that the food is still great! I tried my friends ribs and they were nice and tender. I ordered the seafood salad and it was good! I ate every bite!
Best Mexican food I’ve ever had!! The customer service is really great too. In addition. the way they celebrate birthdays is so cool. I had never seen anything like it.
I visit this restaurant with my family, we drove from California to visit family, they recommend me to this place and it was outstanding customer service,Waiters and rest of the staff were friendly and took care of my family.I would recommend this restaurant to who ever is new in town.Would came back to this place for sure and our next visit.
Cheap. Unappealing plates, cups and ambience. Great location. Managers are more attentive than the waitstaff. As the night gets longer you will find yourself surrounded by college aged folks who are either fixated on Snapchat filters or talking too loud. Take your pick but just dont expect any of it to be worth it.
Good, delicious portions, fast & efficient service. Wish they wouldve inquired about separating the bill among the small group I dined with since we ended up having to leave in a hurry. Luckily, we settled it, timely.
Everything was great until the manager called the cops on the table sitting next to me because they very calmly pointed out their shots of tequila were actually water and that they wouldnt pay for them (but would pay for the rest of the bill). Insane! Earlier, another table complained about the same thing. I complained, and the manager apologized to me instead of to them. How awful!
Food was good and came out quickly. Service was inconsistent and it took forever to get the bill. Also, dont sit outside unless you want to get eaten alive. Music was too loud, had difficulty carrying on conversations
I was here for the brunch buffet to watch the world cup final between France and Croatia. Some of the servers were pretty cute. The food was pretty tasty as well. However, I asked three separate servers for a glass of water, and Im still waiting for it.
Food was pretty ok. Warning: if you go closer to the setup for the DJ/dancing, it may be a little loud and there will be strobe lights. So no the best for a quiet Saturday night dinner, but great for a dinner stop on a night out!
So, let’s start here... I AM BLACK/African-America male.I came here to dine as I have MANY TIMES over the past 14years, in which, I have resided in the DMV area.Today was the FIRST time I have ever been treated with such disrespect and utter racism. As someone that dines out 5-6 times a week due to my personal work-life balance, I was quite offended when I ordered my meal and was IMMEDIATELY asked for my ID and credit card after ordering menu items for my guest and I, which included a Sprite and water as our beverages.I was told that this is a policy for all guest to present credit card and ID upon ordered anything off the menu.I will not be returning since I felt this is the new policy for BLACK patrons only. I find that HIGHLY UNFORTUNATE as I have patronized this establishment for years! To include celebrating my 21st Bday over a decade ago.Alero, I am disappointed. This will be my last visit-
Average food, good ambiance, happy place, always good music and cute young faces abound. Factor in an extra 30-40 minute wait in line. Enjoy a stroll on U Street, the community roaring back to life!
The absolute BEST mex restaurant I’ve been too. The food was amazing! The servers were fantastic! The atmosphere was a once in a lifetime Mexican art scene. Blown away! If your in the area, it’s a MUST go!
The food was good and hot. The only issue i had was that i gave them a tip which was already calculated into the bill and then they took a few extra dollars out on top of that my tip would have been more than what they added to the tip and what they took put together but they took matters into their own hands so their $20 became $5.66
I came here while browsing among U st and it was a Sunday and VERY empty. The waiter came to the table, proceeded to take our drink order, we then placed our drink order and then proceeded to order since we were hunter. Had no problem placing the order. AFTER the order was placed the waiter then proceeded to ask for a method of payment And ID.....why? I’ve visited here SEVERAL times and since when is it common to ask for ID and method of payment before delivery of ANY services? When it’s two black men? Of course. Now could as high as to name the waiter? Of course but to ask for an ID for ordering a cup of water and sprite?. Racism exist.
Good Mexican food, good margaritas, and a great brunch spread. Theyve got a nice patio out front too. I prefer the food here to Lauriol Plaza for sure, and its much less crowded. Service has always been prompt and friendly.
Heather at the bar is amazing. She so nice and her drinks...are to die for. She actually interacted with us and wa extremely funny and cool. I appreciate her service and when I come back she will always be my bartender.
Great food. Cool ambiance! During happy hour its a bit crowded and service isnt as great as an evening with friends for drinks and dinner. So if you want excellent service is go to laurel plaza! But moderate prizes and great food. Cant go wrong here!
This place is always crowded. The servers, hostess and managers are very rude! I come here with some friends for a late lunch on Saturday and waited almost an hour before anyone came to my table. I asked the hostess and manager for a server a number of times and they both kept telling me someone was coming however no one came. The food is not all that great and the margaritas are all watered down. This place will not receive my hard earned cash ever again.
Aleros was one of my favorite restaurants, until last night. Last night was the most embarrassing and the worst customer service experience for my friends and I.I came to join a group of six of my other friends, and it was clear the server was overwhelmed (or maybe new). There was confusion with the bill, in which we paid for drinks we received, and drinks we did not receive yet but thought they were on the way (the drinks were around $20 total). When the drinks did not arrive after some time, we asked for the drinks again. When we received our final bill, we were double charged for drinks. The server was adamant that we in fact received the drinks, and we explained very calmly the situation. We asked for the Manager, he came over to our table and we explained to him again, and he informed us that he needed to look at the tape (video) to determine if what we were saying was indeed the truth. We said that was fine, although we were pretty sure he could have pulled up the receipt to verify, and then we had three police officers come over to our table, and we explained the situation to them. Im not sure why they felt they needed to call the police, but we still remained calm. It was indeed embarrassing, as now, all eyes were on us. This was all over two drinks totaled at around $20, for which we never received, but the Manager and Server thought we were lying. One of the drinks was removed from the receipt, and because of the unnecessary ordeal we just went through, we paid for the drinks we did receive and the one we didnt receive, and we explained that was the case to the Server and the Police Officers.I thought in customer service that the customer is always right. Apparently, that is not something that Aleros management believes.
I love the food and drinks here and am a regular at both locations BUT I noticed that the U St location has started doubling up on the number of plastic straws they give customers -- every round of drinks we got had two straws despite the table saying we didnt need any. This is really disappointing -- Alero management, I hope you take this into cognizance. I know I personally will need to reconsider visiting here until you transition to non plastic alternatives.
Had a strange clean/chemical smell near the bar. Why the blue lights above the bar? That seems like a new retro vibe that should go back to the retro year it came from. Service was so quick. Chicken wings literally came out in less than 2mins. I actually was worried to eat them. It seems the recipe has changed for the worst... most likely wont cone back to this location.
Beware of the cockroaches. Seriously, i have killed one every time i have gone here. That aside this place has the best food and giant margaritas that side of dc. Great service too. One of our favorites! the cockroaches.. they add to the atmosphere.
I came during happy hour. There were no food specials, but drink specials were on point (I was looking to drink not eat). Strong drinks and friendly bartender
Aleros has been my go-to happy hour spot since college. The food is good and the drinks are always good. The service is fast and the waiters always make sure you get your last order in before happy hour ends.
Service was absolutely terrible and deplorable. they sat us down with no utensils. and as we ordered our meal for the evening, the waiter informed me that he would have to hold my ID and bank card for our stay. As a black man, I had to wonder why. apparently they didnt ask the grouo of white people next to us. we left almost immediately after.
Last time i come with my group of friends. They dont have any hospitality service at this restuarant. They dont care about the customers. Also they want u to eat and already asking you if you want the check and you arent even done with your food. Two of my friends saw the advertisement about the 3 dollar tacos. No where was it communicated that we asked for a platter of 6 tacos of something else and it was like 30 dollars for 6 tacos. We asked for the manager. The manager came to the table like we as the customers were in the wrong. It isnt the fault of the customer if the server gets different types of tacos. All they were asked for was if they like it crispy and they wanted 3 chicken and 3 steak. Thats it. The manager said after 12:00am that offer expires but we came in 15 minutes before 12:00 am and the manager wanted to charge us for the tacos plus allow to the server to keep 18 percent. How is it that a server keeps 18 percent yet he drops off food and doesnt ask if the food was good. Worst restuarant i been too. Taco Bell has more hospitality and customer service. Plus since you guys are trying to kick customers out so soon. You guys are fast food with no customer service.
Came in for happy hour and order a passionfruit juice and a shot and a cocktail the server gave us free chips and salsa.. didnt get a chance to order food cause the salsa made me sick immediately, bad tomatoes... sad was dying to try the food but not now...
So I thought this place would be nice, but it wasnt. My friend and I were visited by two roaches on the wall, but since we were sitting by the door, the manager said they were outside bugs so there was nothing he could do about it. Then he reached down almost to pick one up before brushing the whole situation off as if he really didnt care, and went back to eating his dinner at the table next to us. Uuumm okay.Anyway we asked for the check and the server automatically included the gratuity even though our bill was not over $100 and we were a party of 2, but since we complained about the roaches they figured we were trying to skip on the bill. I work as a server as well, so I was more than happy to leave 20% for the server since the bugs werent his fault and he apologized and it was the manager that was a douchebag, but when the Alero charge came up on my statement they had over charged me by twice the amount of the tip?? Why did that happen??Im going to call later today to fix the situation, but what the hell. I didnt bother to keep the receipt because I knew I would never be back, and now look, I gotta stay all over these people. But, never again.
Went for happy hour...had the frozen margarita...half a pitcher for 19.99...i was feeling it after the second round...the chicken on the happy hour menu was my best friend along with the quesada which was small for the price...wish they had louder better music tho
Food: Is absolutely delicious, it takes less than 10 minutes for your food to be brought to you and they always bring you Chips with salsa to your table prior to ordering.Staff: Very Friendly and menue knowledgeable. They are not afraid to strike conversation and gain trust from custumers. Whether you are a regular customer or not they will treat you like family. The majority of the staff is bilingual in English and Spanish and are not afraid to bust a move to the music.Cleaness: Tables and floor are constantly being cleaned and sweeped.Bathrooms: are a bit small, the ladies room only has three stalls, but are constantly being cleaned and always have soup and toliet paper.
If you prefer a place that has an automatic 18% tip, music so loud you have to point at the menu so the waiter can get your order, and burnt food from the kitchen then this place is for you. If not then you should just skip it and keep walking. I wish we would have kept walking.
Happy hour till 7 pm, ordered the happy hour appetizer two Mexican Taquitos with pork, only $6.00, with very light chips and just the right heat in the salsa. Excellent value, very friendly staff, excellent pork taquitos. So glad I went inside, and hope to return for another happy hour taquitos meal.
