Effex NightClub

The security here needs a severe ego check. Effex has gender neutral bathrooms and have a rule that there is only one person in a stall at a time, which makes complete sense. Very valid rule after it was explained to me by the very nice woman at the door. I didn’t know this rule before my girlfriend needed to use the restroom. None of the stalls have any locks, and there are men in the restroom, so I go in the stall with her to hold the door shut and to make her feel safe. I was 5 feet away from her, facing away, holding the door shut. Again, not doing anything weird. A random man tried to enter the stall, while my girlfriend is still using the restroom, banging on the door and shoving trying to get into the stall, yelling at us. I tell him to wait his turn and to F off because in my mind, it’s some random creep trying to peep or do who-knows-what. He keeps trying to enter the stall by banging and kicking at the door after i repeatedly say there is a woman who is not clothed and to wait. The whole time this man is trying to kick down the door, never explaining to me who he is, so I continue holding the door. She finishes and we walk out and it’s security and they threaten me and my girlfriend with violence saying they will “drop both of us immediately” if we don’t leave the bar. My girlfriend has never felt more unsafe, thinking a random man was trying to barge into her stall. And feeling unsafe by the people who’s job it is to keep the bar safe. Again, I get the rule and it makes perfect sense, but if I’m holding the door closed for my girlfriend and some random person tries to barge in on her, I will hold the door shut. Not once did the man say he was with security. She is still crying because it scared her so much, and it happened hours ago. Security should be there to make you feel safe, not like someone is trying to break in a stall and assault you. Completely uncalled for and deplorable behavior by Effex staff. Will never return to this bar. Install locks and train your staff. Not once did the man trying to enter the stall say he was staff. Obviously I was not going to let him in, for her safety. Absolutely despicable behavior from the Effex staff. You made my girlfriend feel unwelcome and more importantly, very unsafe. Had security told me who was at the door, told me one person in the stall at a time, I would have happily held the door from the outside and there wouldn’t have been a problem. $20 paid to have us both feel unsafe and threatened by your own staff.

New Year Eve party 2023. We reached there pretty late (40 mins before 12) and the line was not too long. Disappointing that they got cash and let people cut the line.We were told the entry was $10 while in the line but when we reached in, they charged us $25 pp. it was not worth it at all. The vibe was good. Music was good. Drinks good. But very poor service. Very disorganized.

I used to love effex it felt like home! It is that safe space for people! But after last night don’t think I will ever return me and my man got kicked out because some dude tried to fight my man because we supposedly knocked his drink And oh that dude knew the DJ so he didn’t get kicked out or do anything wrong. Very disappointed!

Changing from 1 star to 5 which I wouldve liked to put initially. Bobby gave me a call and was a tremendous help. Listened to my concerns and addressed all of them, cannot wait to come back and enjoy the music as always. Thank you guys!I usually love going to Effex and have been coming for some time but after this previous weekend Im unsure if I will return. My group and I ordered 3 shots, 2 on one tab coming out to $14, 1 on the other coming out to $12. The math is not mathing guys. I was taken aback by the price and decided to not leave a tip due to that and the service he was giving. Today, two days later, I have an updated charge to my Effex total meaning the bartender gave themselves a tip that I did not write on the receipt.

I once thought this was one of the most inclusive fun places in Albuquerque. This is no longer the case. I would go here on a regular basis and have a great time. This last time I went, I had the worst experience. I invited some folks who were from the UK. They did not understand tip system. The bartender threw a fit, and when the person apologized and tried to give a tip he called security and refused service instead of being understanding. I am very disappointed, especially considering that we were one of the very few Black people in the club, and the bartender was also the only black man serving. I expected more patience from somewhere that claims to be inclusive... especially during pride month. I guess Effex is no longer the place it once was.

New to night clubs. I was going to visit a few more times before reviewing but the bartender (ripped and tatted guy) at the top floor refused service because I didn’t tip for a beer the first time? To quote him, he immediately told me after waiting 20 minutes in line “do you work for free? — you don’t tip so I’m not serving you” (Something like that. I was tipsy and the music is loud.) The beer is already pricey (he charged me $6 for a miller lite) so I assumed they were paid enough for an area like this. The guy popped open the cap and expected a tip for that? Mind you, I tip pretty well at bars and restaurants. But for a cheap beer? Genuinely don’t understand. Brushed it off since I had my wine before heading in anyway. As far as security, i haven’t had a problem with them. They were always cool with me as a single guy walking in and dancing well (wink). I’d assume coming in before 10:30PM will give you an easy pass since they need people inside. Otherwise, it gets packed after 11:30PM or so.Aside from that, the music on the top floor hits the spot for me. Restrooms are not too bad, building as a whole isn’t too shabby either. But again, new to night clubs. Give this place a try.Forgot to mention, the last time I came here, the mid level bartender was HAMMERED by 9:30PM. Bouncing around the counter for a beer. Didn’t really care at the time since she charged me properly like the rest. ($4 for a miller lite). Still felt bad for her though.Tip: Ask for the drink prices before handing your money. Prevents them from stealing a dollar or two.

Downvoting this place all the way. What others are saying about the security is 100% correct. I was relaxing, enjoying a drink on one of the couches. I just got in after paying the cover charge, and was half watching the crowd dancing, half scrolling Facebook on my phone. Some girl approached me and said I was staring at girls and was going to report me. I apologized for the confusion, and said I was only watching the crowd having a good time and enjoying the music. I was not drunk and was only on my first drink. I sat back down, and a moment later, security told me that there were some complaints and I had to go. I wasnt drunk and I wasnt doing anything wrong. So, my assumption is that security will kick people out if they hear or suspect anything they dislike. i.e. vapes, they assume a person is too drunk, a single (baseless) complaint, etc.Annoying experience all around. I was just visiting the city to take care of my aunt in hospice all weekend and I wanted to have a fun evening. Kind of ruined the whole night for me, personally. Never going again and want my money back.And to that girl; get over yourself. Even if I was looking at girls, its a night club. Like, seriously?

THIS PLACE IS AMAZING AND FUN!!!I started off the night with my husband and friend and Social Club Big Mistake!!! Luckily THIS PLACE TURNED OUR NIGHT AROUND FOR THE BETTER!!!It has so many dance floors!!! I especially loved the rooftop!!!! ITS SO SICKENING!!!Like you get to drink and dance and see and feel the Night sky!!Last night Thursday they had a nightmare after Christmas event on the first floor but everywhere else they had KILLER EDM!!!I visit family in Albuquerque every year and this is now the go to destination for me and my friends!! ILL BE SURE TO LET EVERYONE I KNOW ABOUT HOW FUN THIS PLACE IS!!

This was my first time here and I had a blast! They have two levels and 4 different music rooms 1 being an outdoor stage which is were a DJ was celebrating her birthday and it was Lit!! Afterwards I spoke with her and got her info to check out more music! This is an awesome place to come hang out, party and dance!!!

Security is so unprofessional. Paid extra for tickets to an event they didnt let my friend In cuz he had a vape, okay fine. Was trying to tell him we will empty our pockets in our car and come back. Power hungry man banned us from coming in at all. Told all his power hungry buddies. Its not even worth it.

The staff is always trying to make it the best experience, especially Nichole. Tuesdays are really good, music provided by live DJ, and a great atmosphere.

I had a really fun time . I was blown away with all the different rooms and music options. My Red Bull was cheap compared to other bars. The only bummer is I thought it was a gay club And It seemed there were only about 3 of us gays there.

Fun bar in Albuquerque. We first entered and the downstairs was kind of dead, before realizing there was an upstairs with a few room and an open air (roof) patio upstairs. Definitely make your way up there if visiting for the first time. There was a cover which seems a little over the top for ABQ considered some other bigger cities bars do not charge entry.Drinks were moderately priced compared to other cities, but more than I would have expected to pay in Albuquerque.

I was here once before and it was a good time! However, I went again last night with my two friends and we got wrongfully kicked out. We were only there for an hour and a half and had 1 drink and 1 shot. We witnessed other people getting kicked out as well who weren’t even intoxicated. Total waste of our time and I want my money back.

Came down to see DJ Angelz play last night 10/26/18. The club was so much fun. It has 5 diffrent rooms each with its own style of music. The staff was very professional and the bartenders fun and active. All but one. She was very short, rude, made smerks, and acted as if she hated what she was doing. Those in my group and many others felt the same way. I asked her if there where any drink specials or any house specialty drinks and she rudely said No.. What is that you want but in a very rude mono tone. She helped another couple and my friends. Everyone seemed to have the same experience with this bartender to the point people were avoiding her and going to the other side.The entire night she just frowned and poured drinks. Other than that Effex night club is amazingly fun. I hope Club Effex reads this and provides her feedback in the sense that as staff, she is a representation of the club.

The place itself was pretty cool with multiple rooms and styles of music. Not much decor to speak of but a cool layout. Service was just ok. But I have never in my life been in a club that closes its bathrooms off well before closing time. That is absolutely ridiculous. So its ok to take peoples money all night but if they need to use a restroom after 115 theyre SOL. They said you can go to the bar around the corner and use theirs but you cant come back in LOL Real nice. I get you want to move people along out the door but this is just stupid.

Dont have drinks here or you will get kicked out randomly, buddy of mine had a double notch belt and got kicked out as he was trying to fasten it in the bathroom. All of the security are overweight insecure douchebags that target smaller people

If you decide to go here, BECAREFUL USING CREDIT CARDS! Even when you tap no tip, the employees somehow change it and give themselves a tip. I prefer to tip in cash as a courtesy to staff as I have been in the service industry myself. I also notice some security and staff can be pretty harsh and easily provoked at the really chill crowd and end up giving unfair and uncalled for treatment. Luckily I have only witnessed such events. BUT there are also a few great employees too. The attitude of the staff have a great influence on how the vibe at the club will be. So my friends and I are always hopeful of getting a chill bartender. Hopefully effex can turn things around and I can get my stolen tip back.

Let people at least grab water! close the whole thing 20 min before and have someone at the door laying on throw up and cant even give water. FALSE ADVERTISING! They close at 1340 or 0140 AM

Very unprofessional security. Kicked innocent people out forcefully even though they were not part of whatever drama was going on. Additionally slapped drinks out of hands with no regard for drink prices or people wanting to finish their paid for drinks.

$20 Dollars cover charge is stupid, when I dont even pay this much even in NY or other cities, people are dumb if they can for the $20 cover charge. The club is really not high class, very low raunchy and not up to standards of up city club. Good luck to all those who fall for the fee on this club, and it doesnt support LGBTQ at all.

I have always loved Effex nightclub since the first time I went there in 2011, up until this weekend. every show has been absolutely amazing. the sound is wonderful, the staff and security are courteous, and they keep you safe, the drinks are banging, the bartenders are always happy to share a chat for a second. yeah I love you guys, Im going to miss you when I move back to Seattle in 3 months...Also special mentions to Bobby G. Me and my friends usually go here as our first club choice but sometimes we get kicked out for being to “drunk” when we only have a few drinks. There’s people who are literally stumbling with their eyes all bloodshot and they don’t get kicked out? The security is super uptight here so be watchful of them! My friends were using a restroom stall that didn’t have a door so me and my homie were blocking it for them and the security aggressively told us to move while they were peeing and then watched them finish and checked the toilet which was weird and an invasion of their privacy! We have one friend who is hated by one of the female bouncers and sometimes they won’t even let us in because of her! Such weird staff. However, the club itself is fun as there’s three levels with different music types. The vibe is really fun and drinks are about $10 each.

I was thrown out after one drink. This place is a joke. Don’t waste your money. This bar doesn’t care about Albuquerque and will use you at any point. Be smart and use your money wisely. Effex is a joke and coasts on LGBTQ rights but will never take responsibility. This bar doesn’t know the difference. Be smart.

Okay place, staff is unfriendly. They have unisex restrooms which I 100% do not mind, but me my friends do go in couples to the restrooms so one can hold the door because you just never know, and when we did staff kept turning the lights off on us while using the restroom, when we tried to ask why security was very rude & tried to kick us out. If there is a rule that says 2 people can’t go at once then fine, but female security had her eye on us once we walked in the door & kept following us. Unprofessional and unfriendly go to cake! 🎂

The music is good - lots to choose from and many different vibes in a single night. But the STAFF are all amazing, kind, and patient human beings!! I have partied in cities all over the world and have never been somewhere where every single staff member is this KIND. Much love to y’all! ❤️

The club was really fun with great music. However I am highly disappointed in one of the female bartenders. I went to get drinks with my friends however while in line we kept getting skipped. When she finally got all of us she said to me “ tell your friends that you guys will get better service with tips”. I don’t know why she would say that when my friends had tipped her, with that comment I decided to not tip her.

I have been going to Effex for over 15ish years and never had any issues with staff or security. Friday night at 1:30am I needed the restroom. ALL restrooms were closed. I informed security who was standing in front of the restroom that they had 30 more minutes until closing time. He told me that needing the restroom was my problem! On Effex’s IG page I write my complaint, they deleted it, & blocked me! I will not be giving my money to this unprofessional business again! Best of luck Effex!

It was my third time here. Decided to celebrate New years Eve at this place. When I went to use the restroom near the lounge the security personnel asked me to pay $50 if not then the guest with me is intoxicated and needs to be removed from the bar. This was the worse NYE experience. I never expected Effex to fall down at such a degrading position it was one of the most respected bars to the least now. The girl with me when we were peacefully getting out was gropped by the same security personnel and she felt assaulted when complaint about the same to a female security personnel a simple FU*K 📴 was said. Best New Years Eve ruined by Effex. Heartily Disappointed with this place was my favorite. NO MORE !.

This club sucks now. It use to b the go to place to dance and have a good time. Now its a bunch of wack music. DJs dont know what theyre doing. Too much remixing, cant even get a good dance flow. Not everyone likes rave music all the time. Not a place to go if u want to have a good time. Do better!

Me and my girlfriend were aggressively thrown out. The reasoning they gave was “take her home”. Not really sure why. Or what that means. But only had one drink so I know I wasn’t because of being to intoxicated. Never spoke to anyone so we know it wasn’t because of causing problems. Used to be regular’s but will never be back. Will also be telling everyone we know to not go back as well. Very unaccepting and disrespectful security guards.

We have been going to Effex for the past seven years and have always had a good experience until a recent night out. We each ordered one drink in Side Effex and walked around. We proceeded to the indoor, rectangular bar on the second floor to order another round. The bartender approached us to take our order, but he pulled away before we finished. I dont think he realized we had one more in our party. I snapped my fingers once to try to get his attention. I figured that would be nicer than yelling. I didnt intend for it to be rude. He obviously took it that way. While waiting for our drinks, we were greeted by security who said we needed to leave. We were quite astonished and security escorted us downstairs. Once downstairs, we spoke with a manager named Steven. Steven immediately apologized and stated he would comp our drinks, but unfortunately due to state law, he cannot. He asked what he could do to make it right. We asked for an apology from the bartender due to this overreaction and to be permitted to continue on with our night. We told him we did not feel safe in Effex after the incident. He again apologized to us and stated we are safe and assured us we are fine to go about as we please. We proceeded back to the bar to order our drinks thinking the misunderstanding was resolved. Unfortunately, for whatever reason, it was not as the bartender refused to serve us (we were fine with this and were about to go somewhere else), however, the bartender again asked security to escort us off the premises. This time we went outside where we were greeted by Steven who again apologized. He stated we are welcome to come back, but we do not feel this way. This is such a shame as we, for years, have always enjoyed this establishment. I think what is most remarkable is that a mild misunderstanding escalated so quickly without anyone from security even bothering to speak to us politely and try to resolve the issue. Even if we had malicious intentions with a single snap of the fingers, it is a huge overreaction to have customers escorted out by security for such a minor misunderstanding. Some of their staff clearly need to grow up and quit acting like a bunch of oversensitive prima donnas.

This was my favorite spot downtown and I am not recommending it to anyone. On 6/2/23 me & my son were there. The director fat female security kicked my son out for no reason, and lied yo him that they found me and I said who care kicked him out which is a lie. And I started looking for him not knowing what happened I ask everyone there if they see him they lied to me and said no. Not cool

Visiting from Dallas, TX. This was a really cool club with awesome designs! Not too pricey. We were really surprised with all the different rooms with different music genres. Def recommend.

Good music, good drinks, fair prices. Security is always very on top of things. The only thing I dont like is that if you come before the cover kicks in, you cant leave and come back in - they will not give you a stamp unless you pay the $10. If I purposely get there before the cover charge, I should be allowed back in without paying the cover charge. :/ That irritated me enough last night to leave earlier than planned.

The sound is terrible. A premier club experience is desperately needed in Albuquerque. Which would entail a high end sound system. If Effex is gonna get talented DJs here from across the pond or the country ownership should provide a proper auditory experience both for the artist and listener. Gigantic floor speakers aren’t gonna cut it. Hire some professionals to set it up in the properly.

I usually have a good experience at effex. The bouncers and staff are usually extremely nice and professional. However, tonight, the bouncers were rude and disrespectful. After standing in line for an hour they allowed 10-13 people in ahead of me as they walked up. Then while walking in they threw my vape away even though you’re allowed to vape on the roof. After handing my money to the cashier the guy doing stamps wasn’t paying attention and almost hit me in the face twice. When I asked him to please pay attention because he almost hit me twice he got in my face and started screaming at me and tried to kick me out. I am 5’1 and weigh 100 pounds there is no need for such aggression and hostility. I am definitely contemplating ever going back.

My husband and I attended goth night last Thursday and enjoyed ourselves and the vibe. The crowd was interesting and mixed. This staff was friendly and cordial and we enjoyed the variety of music played. My husband lost his cell phone there and it was there the next day. Kudos to the staff as he called his number the next day and it was returned to him by a very nice fellow named Jason. I recommend this club to anyone who wants to dance and people watch. We will be back.

Bar tender was awesome.Security was tight like it’s supposed to be.3 stars because I couldn’t take my Coca-Cola drink out the club and it was a non alcoholic. Think they should fix that.

I love going here when me and friends want to go out.But I had my first bad experience when I went on 11/29/19 around 12am and the lady that was a security guard there was so rude. She was yelling at everyone, giving every person attitude and I wasn’t even drinking so I know I didn’t do anything wrong to upset her, she was just hating her job. I seen her yelling at the person in front of me so I made sure to be extra nice because I seen she was in a bad mood, but nope that didn’t help and she was still rude 😂Besides that day, I love going every time.

The bartender in the second floor needs to find a new job! She/he was really rude! I just ask her what she recommends for a girl drink 🍹 because my girlfriend didn’t know what she wanted because it was her first time @ a club and she was just so rude ! Like come on girl 👧 your getting paid and also getting a tip!!

I have been a fan of Effex and have always had a great time until my last visit. Me and a group of my friends were there to celebrate my birthday and we all thought we would have a great night…but we were sadly mistaken. One of the bouncers that works there is an ex of one of my friends who was with me that night. We knew he was working but didn’t think it would be an issue considering we’re all adults and should be able to handle ourselves as such. Once we had gotten in we had noticed instantly that multiple of the security guards were following us through out the club and On top of that it was also communicated to the bartenders to serve us watered down drinks. I know this bouncer specifically said this because I have another friend that works there that can confirm this was commicated amongst the staff. My friends and I felt very uneasy for the remainder of the night considering how hostile the environment had become. I could only hope this behavior is addressed as this had created a hostile and toxic environment in place where people are supposed to feel free and have fun.

Last night experience made me so uncozy. My boyfriend and I got kicked out of this establishment immediately after we had entry… The second level bouncer had stated that we weren’t substantial enough to be in the building, even though my 7 person party had walked up stairs with our COCKtails… so the 2nd level bouncer (of 08/12/2022) placed his hand on my bf and I and tossed us down the stairway onto the bottom floor’s entry level… This is definitely no way to treat a human being and We will not be returning to Effex ever again — based off of the inhumane indecencies us 7 experienced this evening (08/12/2022). This establishment should look into…

Great spot, wonderful staff, nice selection except there isnt alcohol free beer! On Thursday they host one of the best open mics in the city, with Rusty Rutherford. Excellent lineup with fun comedians!Sign up at 6:30, show starts at 7. Comics are prepared and ready to make the room laugh. Oh and the food is fantastic, green chilli cheese burger is delish with appetizers half of for comics 😊

This is one of my favorite clubs in the country. My friends and I go almost weekly and noticed a new guy working the main door. This prior weekend he had white/platinum hair and it’s definitely a change. He always greets all of us and thanks us. It’s a change for clubs here in Albuquerque. Kudos to him.

Said they wouldn’t take military id’s only state. Which is ironic because military id’s trump state. preceded to say you can “fake” a military id which is near impossible. All n all they were just too trashy to have a uv light to check the id’s. went to another bar and they took military AND had a uv light to check them. Not worth the time to check out!!

Used to like Effex until they hired the worst bouncers ever. my friends and I were treated badly here. I didn’t know every time you dye your hair a different color you’re supposed to change your ID too, no ones ever given my friends problems before until this place. we all had tickets to see a show and couldn’t even get in, meanwhile they let people that literally shouldn’t be in there, in there. maybe worry more about that instead of making a huge deal bc someone dyed their hair. (Still looks exactly the same) Thank you for making me waste money!

Bartender took 30 minutes to get to use after taking all of his friends orders. People that were in line after us and the Bartender had us kicked out for being annoyed. He then lied to the security and got us kicked out. He was very arrogant and rude.

Fantastic vegan options!!! Good beer selection, though I have noticed their selection isnt always the freshest. Service is usually friendly and prompt. Open Decks on Wednesday nights is a great opportunity to support local DJs.

This place has really gone down a lot. I was excited to be back dress up and go out like I did when I lived there. This time it wasnt the same at all. Bartenders didnt know how to make some drinks and the drinks they made werent as great as before. Music was ok. Roof top music was in and out. Before I use to catch myself dancing the night away this time it was more like dance here walk away for 10 mins dance and so on and so forth. Not really a gay looking bar anymore filled with straight people and sloppy drunk girls. But it was a fun place about a year or two ago but now Ill stick with the clubs in Vegas and the valley. The male bartender on the first floor was very rude we waited 40 minutes to get our drinks and he demanded that he get a tip after. It was our first drink of the night. We only went to see the drag queen perform.

The bar tender was awesome and the nachos were fantastic. MY PROBLEM WAS WITH A PERSON IN THE BACK. I had gone to the restroom and decided to look around. The doors were open so I went to the back. I was just exploring when I was approached and told I was being rude to be back there. And that the owners didnt appreciate me being there. That individual made me feel extremely offended. I hope others that go there are not treated as RUDE as I was. Will NOT RETURN.

Went there last night with some friends, the atmosphere was great, the music was phenomenal (love that the dance floor is outside, its not as ungodly hot as some of the bars here) and if you go there after 1am, theres no cover. You only get an hour before they close, but hey. Cute people, great atmosphere, fun dancing. Would go again.

The bartender on Saturday night (Aug 3rd. 2019) that was working downstairs by the dance floor added $5 to my tip. WTF, he didnt think Id check my bank account. Beware.By the way I gave a $3 tip on a $12 bill, so not that bad of a tip to begin with. No Way he mistook the tip line of $3 for an $8 and the total line of $15 for a $20.

I love this place! We typically go around 6:30pm so things are pretty low key. Their wings are delicious, especially the garlic parmesan. They also have the most delicious fries that are thick and crispy. Most plates I have gotten are super filling and well priced. Tuesdays are 25¢ wing night. There are lots of beers on tap and the cocktails are always good.There are several TVs throughout the place, that are typically playing some sort of music videos. These guys get an A+ for their bathrooms- they are always clean.

First time visiting this club -- and it did not disappoint. There is plenty of chic decor and sitting, for that city lounge feel. The music on all three levels were different, but amazing, so theres something for, just about, everyone. I danced in every floor. (I attended on a Friday night)The crowd is mixed, as far is sexual orientation. I wouldnt consider this a gay bar/club--- but, a place for liberal people. (Sidebar: mostly heterosexual chicks)

They kicked me out because I was at the entrance waiting for a friend. I told them that, but they didnt really seem to care. This was after I made a 15$ entrance fee non refundable as they told me after the fact . Would not try again. Seems like it would be fun if they didnt treat the customers like trash

I go every Tuesday for the 25c wings!! They taste so good and there’s a great selection of drinks. The DJ spins some great hip hop too. The barmaid Nicole remembers us now and she’s very friendly!

Go after 1am and you dont have to pay a cover. Pretty much the best place to go if youre interested in dancing. They are 3 floors and a roof filled with dance floors and pumping music. Drinks are pretty average but if youre there post 1am I suppose that doesnt matter much.

A great experience!The outdoor roof top is outstanding! You can see a nearby historical building while dancing. It is really neat! Also, you can smoke cigarettes up there which is different from many other places.Inside you will find an array of different spots to dance, venture, and more. There is more than one dancefloor, dj, and level. This place rocks!

I can’t believe the cover price. It’s comparable to real clubs in big cities. The whole facility needs a remodel. Although the mid floor and roof area are nice, it’s just awkward! Trying to get around on a crowded night is impossible with standard size doors between the patio and the inside, i don’t understand the wasted space of the hallway after the stairs, the hallway to the patio, or the metal landing to get up to the patio. Totally wasted space. And what on earth is behind the french doors upstairs?The downstairs is totally grungy and unappealing, leaving the other two spaces packed. Pro tip: none of the bar tenders charge the same price for the same drink! It can be different based on which bar or which bartender you go to. I feel like the building should be redesigned to be open, utilizing more space and creating more functional areas or bigger dance spaces.

My friend got molested on the floor and security kicked us out because we told them about it I have made a police report and I will be pressing charges none of us were drunk I am so pissed 😡. Be careful at effects they let people get molested and then kick the victims out

Tuesday is wing night-25 cents. The wings are massively meaty and do not suffer for taste. Large selection of beers on tap, even had shiner cheer on tap (first time I’d even seen that).Lots of tvs, lots of seating. Really looking forward to going back.

Bartenders will refuse to serve you or anything with you if they feel that you didn’t tip enough. This is not an observation this is being told directly from the bartender that “are you with him? Oh well he’s a bad tipper so we’re not gonna serve you if you’re with him.” That is absolutely unacceptable. The bartenders job is to serve drinks a tip is exactly that extra money for doing their job. I understand it’s frustrating but they’re are getting extra money for their work So if I tip $2.00 on a drink that’s already costing me $20 to get in and eight dollars for the drink that’s not enough of a tip? That literally is 25%. Or one dollar for a beer when literally all they did was get a bottle of beer and open it and had it to me and take my money. That sort of behavior is unacceptable and if you confront them about not getting served then they call security on you.

My girlfriend and I drove down from Colorado to see Keys n Krates and we both were not disappointed in the slightest. This club blew our minds with how big it was and how many dance floors were scattered around. Also we had no idea it was a gay club until we arrived, and we felt right at home. Well definitely be coming back for another show soon!!

This place has gone down a lot! Bartenders didnt know how to make any drinks I requested! For a Gay Club it should be decent, they use plastic cups to make your drink, I asked if I could get a beer from the tap, the bartender said in a snotty voice We dont have that! Very young immature crowd there! For a Gay club I only saw a few gay people the rest were cocky straight guys! This place needs Jon Taffer ASAP!!!!!!

I mainly wanted to give this place a second chance. But to be honest, I thought this place was gay friendly and it is not. When I first arrive in Albuquerque last year, I wanted to go out and party in New Mexico nightlife and I went to the effex that a local told me about. At first everything was fine and people were going in but when I was next the door man who had a ridiculous attitude that day. I showed my ID which in that time, last year had my Californian drivers license, he looked at it and said I couldnt go in. Ok so first I thought it was expired and it wasnt he did mention the reason I couldnt go in is because of my weight. This was a total discrimination and harassment, I laughed about it but seems this place does have a strict rule of over weight people. I will never set foot into your doorway ever again. But thank you for giving me this horrible experience for the first time in my life.

Got the Green Chili Turkey (sort of) Rueben. Ive been on a road trip trying great food in four states, and this has been one of the best meals Ive had in a string of great places. There is also a Vegan Menu. Ask for it. Friend had vegan Mac n cheese, and we all splita vegan meatball. Both of which were great.The turkey Rueben (not vegan) I had was very spicy, in exactly the way I was craving. The service was great.Also, worth noting, it is somewhat more of a bar setting. But I loved the atmosphere.

I went to see Andy Moor last week and the sound system downstairs was TERRIBLE. There was so much bass overpowering everything that it was difficult to make out what song was being played. While the place looks like it was low budget remodeled, and the sound upstairs and outside was decent, no one should ever have to pay money to hear the downstairs system. The constant assault to my ears made the entire night unenjoyable.

Always a good time if youre looking to party! Fyi this club welcomes straight AND gay customers. If you have a problem with either, please dont show up. Everyone gets along and I have never had an issue with any customer there. Three different stages and settings depending on different style preference.

The Tuesday night chicken wings special cannot be beat! The wings are large and juicy, the sauces are delicious, and the drinks are affordable! My only complaint is that that the music in the restaurant is a little loud, but it isnt at an unbearable level.

Ive visited effex nightclub for a few years. Tonight, the bartender with blonde hair, on the top outdoor level treated me well. As the night progressed I was toward the front of the crowd with some friends. Suddenly there was a barrage of people who wanted my spot. I gave way for the most part. But there was one who wanted my direct spot. I refused to give it up. I was subsequently kicked out at approximately 12: 47AM. I feel I was mistreated for forcing to give my spot. As a patron for many years, I feel like I am no longer safe at effex, and it hurts me to say that. This was my girlfriend and I first time being here, and were treated poorly since the minute we got there.The door man should be a corrections officer.The bartender upstairs, needs costumer service training and probably some chill pills.Bouncer like to rip you off to use the restroom.Makes the local LGBT community looked very bad.First and last time here.

Had a good time until a security/bouncer started to tell me, yelling to be honest, where I can and can’t stand. At first I thought he was a patron messing with me. I’ve never been to this bar before because I’m from out of state. He had no identification on or even a shirt that would inentify him. I thought he was a street person to be honest. Then he tells me I have to tip the dancer. Well I’m no where near the dancer. Then he tells me if I look at the dancer I have to tip. If their are rules to a bar you should have them in plain site when you walk into the establishment. Long story short, he’s eyeballing me for five minutes plus, then yells “your out of here!”, slaps the glass out of my hand, drink flies out of my hand, and down my back. Out I go needless to say with the help of his ass. I don’t even know how to get out of the place and he’s yelling at me the whole time. First time and last time in that bar. Worst experience I’ve ever had in a bar. I would give it a negative star if I could.

They kicked me and my boyfriend out after 2 drinks saying we were to intoxicated when we clearly werent it was ridiculous we paid 30 dollars for us to get kicked out for no reason when other people could barely walk.

This is a terrible place , we were being followed from the security guards constantly. Will never return .Never have felt so uncomfortable in a club . Pulled us out of line to search us for no reason at all. Security continues to harness us young women . It Is not ok . We do not feel safe in this environment. Save your money. And go elsewhere .

Ive been driving back and forth to the midwest from Arizona a few times in the last few years. One year, I discovered Effex Nightclub and met DJ Tony Moran on the sidewalk out front the night before his show. I was thrilled. You are lucky to have this club in ABQ, its one of the best in the country and on par with Los Angeles.

The security changed from personable and professional, to downright draconian with an emphasis on abitrary rule enforcement.They have a dress code now that they wont post ahead of time anywhere, which means that you may be waiting in line for nearly forty five minutes only to be shunted away by the most invasive security Ive faced in Albuquerque.To clarify, Effex hired an outside security firm, they are the actual problem. The old security, that learned your name and built rapport with their customers, no longer exist.The space is excellent and the renovations have markedly improved the space over time, but the security is beyond tolerance.For perspective: Im a regular that has frequented Effex for at least 8 years, and the security is scaring the regulars away.

We often go to Effex for our ClubWaka parties as our spot to host a large group. When we have the club to ourselves, this place is fantastic, we get great service, theres always a DJ and a ton of space. What is always awkward is once the place opens up to the rest of the public and the cover charge starts.Overall, this is one of the best places to go for drinks and dancing in downtown ABQ, but there arent too many places to go in ABQ.

The few times weve visited at night, theyve had some very interesting draft beers and a tasty food menu thats usually available late. Service has been very good, too. A surprisingly good find.

Security/bouncers acted like a Jr high bullies working for the TSA all the while pilfering pockets on the sly then becoming belligerent when caught. Never again, too many other decent choices that dont involve navigating your way through this corrupt funnel.

Really tasty food (if a bit pricey) and great drinks! Ambiance is very chill and pleasant. Honestly, I really enjoyed this place *way* more than I thought I would! Will definitely return.

Probably the best spot in town if you like 2 dance , rooftop dance floor is mostly straight. popular with the college crowd. they have edm events here. lounge is chill. mostly gay on bottom floor. drag shows, house music, gogos, cocktails, good sound system. The club is filthy & floors are sticky not good for shufflers. but lots of fun. no point wsisting your time going 2 other clubs.

It was so HOT inside. The moment you stepped in, it felt like 80% humidity. There was little to no ventilation on any of the floors. The entire area smells like B.O. I couldn’t have a good time because of this.

On Saturday April 16th, 2022 my boyfriend was assault by the bouncers at Effex nightclub. He was heading back into the nightclub to look for my cousins phone when he was attacked out of nowhere. He was not combative and there was no verbal warning prior to the attack at all. Police report was made and he had to go to the hospital and get staples from the punches that were thrown at his head. Why was this necessary? They are bouncers but this is not part of the job description, it is illegal and there will be a lawsuit filed against all parties involved and the establishment.

Great club. I love it here. I will say, sometimes the visiting DJs are really terrible, but not every night can have the best music right?

Look.. its Albuquerque. Its the best thing happening downtown as far a a club goes. They have a kick ass sound system, good DJs (not playing Lil Jon- Get low). lots of vibe options. They play loud music.Sigh.. I fell like if you are trying to compare Effex to some sick ass club in SF or NYC.. its going to be a bad rating. Just compare it to the rest of your Albuquerque experience. 5 stars for trying to +1 Albuquerque Effex, good job.

I can only vouch for accommodations. I was there after hours for a wonderful event to feed the homeless. The fact that the business let us use the space for that speaks for itself. As far as the bar or cafe aspects, I cannot say.

EFFEX! What is up with your sticky floors!? This club was nice when I left ABQ came back this weekend and I almost got seriously hurt on the upstairs deck because my foot got stuck on those floors. Super disgusted. Might report to the fire marshal. What is up!?!?

I went to Effex last night and it was a lot of fun except that I only got 3 drinks and I was completely wasted because they were over poured 2-3x. I should not have been as drunk as I got. That is extremely dangerous.

The absolute worst club Ive ever been to. Security escorted us out after paying $50+ for cover. Apparently a woman falling in heels is evidence enough of insobriety to disqualify a whole group and steal their cover charge. Shameful!

This club has changed over the years and I came out tonight first time in a very long time first I had to wait in a long line in the cold there are no outdoor heaters for customers waiting to get in it was 12:30am and charging $15 to get in and there was nobody special playing and the main dance hall wasent playing music like DJ Chris De Jesus a few years ago and i guess theres the main dance hall and the 2 lounges upstairs I just wasent going to pay $15 at 12:30 so i left and didnt get to hear the dance music I wanted to I guess this club has evolved and thats why there a long line to get in maybe im just old school when Pulse and Blu and AMC and Exhale where around and they dont exist Anymore and the club seen has changed for the younger crowd

15$ is worth it had alot of fun i loved it met so many cool people i dont get out much me and my home girl had so much fun the drink are the best part u get ur moneys worth
