The lady bartenders who serve on the Patio charge more for the same drink than the bartenders inside.. I went 3 different times with friends (1 who doesn’t drink at all) to foolproof this & without a doubt, it’s consistently happening across the board… Security guard even mentioned he’s heard about this several times in the past… STOP SCAMMING YOUR CUSTOMERS!
We had a night out after a long week at work the atmosphere was amazing The drinks were a little expensive but it was so worth it to get to experience all the different types of people that were there. We went downstairs and got to sing karaoke with audience we had so much fun when youre in Atlanta definitely check out dark horse and 10 high club....didnt get a chance to try the food cuz we were too busy drinking and dancing and just having a great time
Bartenders are rude. Music is terrible. There’s also a fee to go all the way upstairs which is definitely not worth it. Also all bars/clubs/lounges should have accessible water stations
Dark Horse Taverns live band karaoke is a blast! The lively atmosphere, diverse song choices, and enthusiastic crowd make for an unforgettable night. Talented performers and a supportive audience create an energetic and enjoyable experience. Perfect for both seasoned karaoke pros and first-timers, its a must for a night of musical fun!
Super fun! The kareoke was actually a lot of fun, the band was great! The drinks were pretty good as well.
This is my home away from home. Been going here for years. Bartenders treat me well, security treats me well. The live band is fun. Definitely a unique experience. The atmosphere is hit or miss, as it comes with the territory of this being primarily a gen z spot. The food is solid for a late night bar. The grilled cheese with chicken hits the spot every time. The mozz sticks are money.
Came here for country line dancing on Wednesday night. So fun! 🤠 The bartenders were on point and the vibe was awesome. Be prepared get there a little early to find parking.
Ive been coming to Dark Horse Tavern for the past few years since I moved into the neighborhood awhile back. I came for the live band karaoke and Ive literally never experienced anything quite like it. Ive been addicted ever since.First, let me say the bartenders are TOP TIER! Always friendly, always serve amazing drinks. Even amongst the chaos in the basement, they always see me, know what I want, Im in and out so damn quick and I can enjoy the show. Its friggin magic.I know theres been a changeover in ownership of this place, and I hope the new owners understand how crucial it is to keep the place going for the locals that love this bar too. We locals come for you guys. Theres literally five other bars I could go to on the same street as Dark Horse, but I choose to come to DH because every employee is awesome and incredible. I look forward to seeing the crew working that night. It makes the insane patrons there a little more tolerable. Thanks for all the work you guys do! Much love to Kelly, Charlisse, Josie, Jeff, Kayla, Steve, Paget, Wiz, and Jesse! All of you are the true rockstars.
For the love of God hire a better dj who can play music without 10 seconds of dead air while thinking of the next song. Also crazy frog is not a crowd pleaser yet they play it every night. Fire that dj pleaseeeeee.Bartenders are nice enough and bathrooms are reasonable for a clubby atmosphere
Music on Saturday was much better than the normal playlist. Not hearing crazy frog three times a night like normal was refreshing lol. As always the bartenders are amazing.
I dont drink here, but when a friend showed me this bar, it became a good hangout spot on weekend nights before we went down to 10-high. The staff here are really kind and friendly, and the atmosphere is clean.
ANTI-LGBTQ+ ESTABLISHMENT. During a visit to Dark Horse Tavern for a friends birthday celebration, our experience started on a hopeful note. Eager to enhance the atmosphere, we invested in a selection of songs from the jukebox. However, despite our anticipation, the music was initially too quiet, diminishing our enjoyment. It wasnt until an hour into our visit, after we requested a volume increase, that the ambiance improved, leading to a lively atmosphere with patrons dancing and enjoying themselves. The evening took a disappointing turn when the temperature inside the bar rose, prompting my husband to remove his jacket, revealing a standard tank top underneath. Unexpectedly, a staff member confronted him, insisting that tank tops were against the bars dress code, a policy that was neither posted nor previously communicated to us. When we sought clarification and requested to see the written dress code, we were met with hostility and were told to leave without a satisfactory explanation. This encounter felt particularly discriminatory, as we noticed other patrons in similar attire who were not subjected to the same treatment. Our objections were dismissed rudely, and as we exited, we were wrongly accused of causing damage. This incident leads us to believe that the bars actions were not only unwelcoming but also discriminatory, notably hinting at homophobia, given the unequal enforcement of their dress code. Such behavior is unacceptable, especially in a city like Atlanta, known for its diversity and inclusiveness. We hope our experience serves as a cautionary tale, particularly for the LGBTQ+ community and allies, about this establishments intolerant practices.
Went here for line dancing and really enjoyed myself! The staff are all very friendly and the space is nice and spacious.
Its dirty, loud, packed, and darkly lit with harsh multi-colored light. The drinks are cheap, the company is rowdy, and the karaoke in the basement has a live band that plays the songs. All of which can be great if youre in the mood, the nice quite bar scene can wear a bit thin at times. If you dont want to be deaf and packed into a dark room with strangers you should probably try this one another time.
An Atlanta Gen Xrs trip down memory lane. Live band karaoke is great. Beer is cheap.
The music this past weekend was great!! Lots of verity grateful didnt have to listen to the cotton eyed Joe
Very loud inside like it echos off the floor. Great place for testosterone fueled 20 year olds.
This tiny place underground gave me as seriously memorable life experience. It was so loud and fun. I didnt feel like an awkward Kareoke guy in a bar. I felt like a lead singer at a concert!
If I could give this place negative stars, I would. I’m never one to write a review, unless the place is great, or in this case is terrible. This bar is in on an illegal booting scam. The scammers sit outside, wait until you pay and walk into the bar, and then boot your car anyways. I watched outside after I found my car booted at 1AM, and seen them not even checking tags or anything. They were blatantly walking around picking random vehicles to double boot, and charge 75$ a boot to come remove it an hour later. They give you a card to a fake website, that doesn’t work. I walked inside to talk to the staff and bouncers and everyone said nothing about it. As if they didn’t have permission to do it. They are clearly in on the situation, and legally they are required to have a booting sign in the state of Georgia, for the areas that your car can get booted. They have no such thing, and I’m building a case against it. Atrocious place, never go here, and never park here. Shameful.
Was upstairs in the red room and told if we bought two drinks each we could skip the line for the basement. So we all bought a few rounds and then was given a slip of paper to get to security who was ready to take us downstairs when a manager started screaming at my friend telling her she was wrong and stupid and then kicked her out. All love to the bartender but management is absolutely disgusting people. Also drinks are so overpriced for something soo mediocre
Its a very high energy bar where a lot of folks were at. Getting in was easy and the ground was dancing hard. They had plenty of rooms and places outside too.Kind staff. Was relatively easy to get drinks.I would go again.
This is a hidden gem in Atlanta, i had such a good time singing with my friends. Bartenders are extremely curtious, and the service is quick.Music up top and karyoke with a live band down in the basement. I butchered a song. Still, everyone cheered on and was really nice. Music is a little too loud but thats just me getting old.Better than MJQ and other clubs.
The only thing that needs sorting are the bouncers/ security inside not very good. Everything else is top tier
Great place to hang out with friends and sing karaoke with a live band. The kitchen is open late and food is excellent and fast. Drinks are great and bartenders are all friendly and super efficient at handling high volume. 10/10 recommend. The chicken nuggies and the corn dogs are to die for.
This place hasnt changed in years. The downstairs live band karaoke is the main attraction imo. The upstairs offers a more chill vibe. The main floor and patio are great too. Just expect large crowds with the occasional drunk person stumbling around you.
They will overcharge you $10 when you close out so be sure to check your bank statements the next day if you choose to go here. Ive been twice (unfortunately) and both times I had 2 charges the next day. 1 for my actual order, and then a second $10 charge. Idk if they just assume everyone is too drunk to remember but its scammmmmmmmmy
Easily my favorite bar in the city-The basement has live band karaoke with classic rock/ pop punk rock style songs. I have never had a bad time here. The vibes are great, the bar staff are always friendly and pouring well, and the music is rocking!
My mom and I are visiting Atlanta this weekend for her birthday and this was our first bar stop! We got there before the live band karaoke started so we sat at the bar and got drinks. The bartender, Bruce, was awesome!!! He was making sure every customer that walked in got a drink and we had awesome conversation throughout the night!! Thank you Bruce!! If you’re ever in Atlanta, this is the place to try!!!
Had a super fun time here, drinks are about the same as any other bar price wise. But no entrance fee definitely makes up for it.The karaoke was super cool with the live band it makes you feel like your an actual Rockstar for a few minutes
Great spot for a variety of drinks, cocktails and laughs. Plenty of seating for when we had a party of 12 after 10:30pm. Venue downstairs to change it up, bartenders were great, had a fun attitude and even gave us pizza after the kitchen was closed. You always feel taken care of here. Highly recommend for neighborhood bar.
Cool spot for karaoke with a good bar and reasonably priced drinks. 9 below is a really hip location to Screech out your favorite rock and roll and pop punk hits from the past 30 years. The band is always great and youll have a good time even if the singers (karaoke walk-ups) its are not particularly good, the band will sing over them. On the other hand, there are a number of regulars that have perhaps even better vocals than the originals. Your first karaoke song is free provided you go up there by yourself. Thursday night is a good night for a smaller crowd, and you can expect it to be packed on the weekends.
I’m so glad there’s rock n roll bar in the town!! Feel like I’m back to the 70s the glory age of Rock. The live band is so good! The lead singer is so hardcore, to be honest, I’d rather listen to him for the whole night instead of Karaoke Lol. The drink is a bit overpriced but has no entrance fee so I would say it’s fair.
Took my wife here on date night. We went straight down stairs to the live band Karaoke. They will make you feel like a rockstar! If you like karaoke this is a must see place. Drinks are fairly priced and service is fast. I will update the review once we try the bar upstairs.
One of my favorite bars. Bartenders are all quick and friendly! Good music and drinks. My brother and I go there all the time! Also, recently lost a wallet there and it was safely kept until I went back and picked it up a few days later which speaks highly about the staff!
The LIVE BAND Karaoke Bar downstairs, was perhaps the greatest karaoke bar I’ve been to. Drinks were great, band was great, place was packed. Karaoke doesn’t start til 10:30, but if you want to sing you should get there earlier to hop in line, otherwise you’ll be waiting until 12:30 to even sign up. 10/10 would recommend.
The layout of the bar is a bit complicated. The basement is a different bar and there is a small patio bar and upstairs bar in addition to the main bar on the first floor. Great environment and a fun time indeed, although drinks were a bit slow at the downstairs bar. However it was not due to service. Those bartenders were working hard, simply so packed with young folks looking for a good time. A good problem to have.
I am giving Dark Horse 5 stars for the service I received from Justin, the bartender in the back room. He and the manager were very kind after I was almost kicked out by a bartender who works the front. I know his name, but am choosing to be nice and not post it. Apparently, asking when the bar starts to get busy is a reason to be rude to his patrons. I hadn’t been to this establishment in years and was honestly just curious. Grateful that my night was not ruined by the first 5 minutes, I really needed a night out and ended up having a great time. Thank you
Great music, fun bartenders, and decently priced drinks. The rest of the patrons were also a ton of fun; it’s a really friendly vibe overall. The different rooms and levels makes it easy to split off from the main mob. Back porch is cool, too!
I have been here several times during the MarksterCon pub crawls and every time I always enjoy myself the most at this place. It has the most space to actually breathe and the bartenders are always very helpful and the service is just great. There is some confusion though with the upstairs and downstairs - they are part of the same place but are not quite...? I love the downstairs location called 10 High where they perform LIVE KARAOKE! as in a live band, where YOU are the lead singer! It is a blast and I never finish a pub crawl without it!
I had a terrible experience with the owner and bouncer, despite being over 21. They took my real ID and I had to call the police. My friend was rejected from the bar completely on her 21st birthday because her ID expired the same day. This is not the place.
The live band karaoke is incredible. The band, Metalsome, starts at 10:30 but if you want to sing before 1am you need to get there early to pick a song. The band does a fantastic job of leading each song - and keeping you on track if it turns out you dont remember that song as well as you thought you did.
There were no horses. Extremely disappointed.Jk - cool bar. Karaoke downstairs, dance floor main level. Something for everyone once your night has gotten going.
Went on Halloween for an event (paid $25 for a ticket that included no covers, comp shots, and discounted drinks) and got terrible bar service. A bartender yelled at a huge group of people next to me for asking for the comp shot and said if they wanted “free shit” then to leave (not free- we paid $25). I ordered 2 drinks (a beer ($3) and mixed drink) and was charged $16, and then was charged an additional $10 when I checked the next day for god knows what. I didn’t order anything after those two drinks and left immediately after. Don’t host a Halloween event if you don’t want to.
Very cool place, with great late night food and reasonably priced drinks. We stopped by after a concert so we didnt get to experience the live bands or karaoke, but from the looks of it I wouldnt mind going back when I visit Atlanta again in the future!
Rockstar Kareokeis the best in townHands down. The Warren on the rooftop is the #1 Gem in ATL
I had the greatest time doing live band karaoke last weekend. This visit was by far the best ever, because they do not allow smoking anymore. That really made my night. Thank you so much, management!
Loved this place but after paying for drinks the bartender lost my card. Immediately turned off my card and got a notification that someone else tried using it there about 20 minutes later. She gave my card to another person!
Went to Dark Horse Tavern on Black Friday. It was extremely slow because of the holiday but it gave us a chance to chat with the bartenders and ended up having a great time. Metalsome karaoke was cool but didnt have much participation. The in-house band is really good.
This place is usually pretty relaxed but Saturday was lit up!Pros: kareokee downstairs, good beer selection, younger crowd, good location, just a good place to go. Other bars nearby.Cons: their card machine broke so they had issues closing tabs out. But Im sure that isnt a regular thing! If you want to have some fun check out their kareokee nights!
All I can say is that the food is a little drab nowadays. A few years back they had amazing food. I always like the bartenders though. Not a lot of diversity and smoking is allowed. They have nice comfortable booths and there are I think a couple of places to sit outside. I used to go a lot more, but they really dont watch after their customers when it comes to drinking limits. Ive witnessed people allowed to drive away while they were obviously too drunk to even walk properly. One of those people ended in jail that night for a DUI so more responsibility should be taken when it comes to that. The club downstairs has a great show called Metalsome or something like that and the musicians are phenomenal. Sounds like theyve come straight off tour or something. Pretty girls and everybody seems to always have a great time down there.
Absolutely the worst experience of my life!! The bartenders were sooo rude. They were basically calling people by names or racial slurs.
First time going.. it was great, good music, fast bartenders, and love the levels to this Tavern. Will return. 🙂
Cool bar downstairs with live rock music. Live band karaoke, which was different but awesome. Open later than surrounding bars.
Over all had a very fun time both upstairs and downstairs but one of the bartenders downstairs (dark hair, glasses, talked like a gay guy) seemed annoyed to be serving my boyfriend and I when we had only gotten our first two drinks with him. We were nice, not obnoxious, not drunk. He was making unnecessary comments.
Great little spot thats very accepting of all. Live band karaoke is not only great, but also encouraging when you go up and sing. The wide variety of songs makes this a great place to visit every time
Last week my wife and I took a friend to the karaoke at Dark Horse. We had such a good time rocking out to our favorite songs. The drinks are reasonably priced and there is no cover to get in. We did not try the food but will totally stop back for dinner some time soon after all the fun we had.
Love the bar layout. They have the bar in the middle of the room so its easy to get your drink! :-) Plus its an epic karaoke bar that plays all sorts of songs. Come here for a great time with some friends!
I visited Dark Horse Tavern last time I was in Atlanta to ring in my friends birthday. Sam & Jasmine were our bartenders and they took great care of us! Being from another state it is always interesting to me to see different hospitality throughout the US. Thank you Sam & Jasmine for your great service. I would highly recommend this venue and will definitely return the next time I am in the area.
Lines are moderate and not that packet. Bouncers do a good job at controlling who comes in and out, and they DO spot fakes. Drinks are reasonably priced. Multiple rooms for dancing and music, and a younger crowd base found throughout. Probably one of my favorite bars in Atlanta for young people.
Great local bar in the heart to VA Highlands. Karaoke at night on Mon, Wed, Thurs, Fri, and Sat. Drinks are decently priced. You can get a beer for about $4. Servers and bar tenders are friendly. Gets pretty crowded on Fri and Sat night so get there before 10:30.
I love singing with Metalsome! Have a drink, see English Nick, and belt out a tune with a live band. Can get crowded and since people are drinking, masks are never on faces, but they protect you from Covid-19 every other way. Some of the best times of my life were here.
Really enjoyed this experience. Went here for the Wizard Pub Crawl. They had really great wings and a great slider I tried. SUPER IMPRESSED. A supervisor went around and talked to us and was really nice as well. Atmosphere was great.
Great place to go for drinks and good time.. There is a heavy influence of POP AND COOL RAP THERE. ALso the basement has HARD ROCK! AND THERE ARE PROBABLY 4 BARS THERE. Really great atmosphere to be in if youre in the mood to meet pretty girls who want to get plastered and have a groovy time...
Great basement karaoke scene. However, there are always so many older creepy guys lingering around I wouldn’t feel comfortable going alone or even with a small group of 2-3 girls, almost reminds you of the quagmire in back mirror. I’m a bartender in Atlanta and every time I’ve been in here, (soberly all 3 times which probably contributes to the experience and is my bad), the bartenders have been scowling and rude. I know drunk people are obnoxious, but lighten up you’re making good money guys!! Would recommend pregaming effectively before arriving here.
ANTI LGBTQ. My friend was denied entry to the bar because he was a man with a purse. My friend identifies as a woman. One of our other friends took the purse, and we were still denied entry. Our whole group was PHYSICALLY pushed out the door. I asked to speak to a manager several times and was ignored. Eventually they even locked the doors. If youre so worried about a a man having a purse just check the bag!! Speaks volumes that we still were denied entry even after the purse was gone. Really didnt think this would still be an issue in 2022 in Atlanta of all places. Rewrite your transphobic policies!!
Went here with a party of 13 people for dinner. Service was slow, and food was cold.I had been trying to get an itemized receipt for my partys dinner for the past month. Each time I called I got the response my manager is not in, I will tell him to give you a call back when hes in. I never received a call back. When I was finally able to speak to the manager after 10+ calls he told me they did not have those records and immediately hung up on me.My overall experience there lacked professionalism and I will never go back.
Had a really similar experience as Samantha who wrote a review below...The bartender working patio bar on Sat. 22nd was verbally and physically threatening, screamed and cursed at me because I reached over and passed him my water cup. He perceived it as being too close to his face I guess? I walked away but my friend still wanted her drink and he started shoving cups in her face and basically losing it. I cant imagine how he reacts to customers who are actually being rude...he is a liability and honestly made me feel physically threatened. Ive never been yelled at and treated like that by a bartender...I was completely sober and wanted a water after ordering my one beer (gave him a really generous tip which i regret now).I called the bar and spoke to a manager who told me he knew exactly who I was talking about and that they have had this problem before. Why do they refuse to address it?The bartender also bullied others, refused to put limes in the Coronas for the two guys in front of me and instead proceeded to shout at them and put them in their hands because he doesnt do that. Hes the one with the fade haircut who crushes the red bull cans
Interesting place that does live band karaoke. Sometimes good, sometimes awful, depending on the singer.
Walking along looking for some place cool to hangout and it happened to be karaoke night. Had a great time. Bartenders were easy going and the bouncer was like cmon in man lol! A little bit of a sausage fest, but it wasnt too bad.
I wish I could give zero stars. Was here today and we were in the upstairs patio area, we ordered shots and drinks and then we wanted waters to drink after. I ordered a water and the bartender decided to roll his eyes at me for ordering a water. Then after awhile I went to order two more waters for me and my friend as he wasn’t feeling well and the bartender decided to yell at me (don’t know his name, buff guy with a lame haircut working the upstairs patio tonight) said “you need to stop ordering water from me, it’s not my job to serve you water.” I replied “wait, really? It’s not your job to serve me water?” And he said “you aren’t tipping me so no it’s not my job to serve you water” then he threw the waters he was making away and proceeded to yell at me to go away. I have never been so disrespected in my life for ordering a water for me and my friends at a bar. If this is how dark horse treats it’s paying customers for ordering water along with drinks then I will never be coming back. Also I have been a patron to dark horse for many years and brought my out of town friends for a good night, and this was ridiculous treatment for responsible adults who ordered water at a bar.Won’t be returning anymore, and will tell all my Atlanta friends to do the same.
Best bar in atl. You literally get to be a rockstar! The band and staff are super friendly, and English Nick will help you if you are struggling. Dont miss out on Darkhorse!12/23/21 Update years later - I moved away and came back to visit family and had to stop in, and the vibe is still killer. They do more regular karaoke songs most nights, but the energy is crazy and you get to be a rockstar still
My friend and I came to this bar and each got two drinks. Not sure how much alcohol they put in there but we both blacked out and were puking for 24 hrs plus after leaving this bar. Very disturbed and never returning to this bar again, not a safe place for young women with the heavy overpouring.
Excellent place to relax and enjoy cocktails with family and friends. Excellent selection of cocktails and wine. The staff was extremely good.
Dark horse used to be awesome. There are 4 bars to order a drink from. This place has gotten way too crowded to have a fun. Do not go here unless you’re okay with being weirdly crowded at all times.
The live karaoke is dangerous. They pack too many people in the basement for karaoke. The staff is rude. The music selection is mediocre, and it seemed like they got all of the songs from the original Guitar Hero. A random guy pushed me to the ground to get in front of me in line. This was right in front of the DJ. He was not thrown out, or reprimanded at all. In fact, he was able to put in his song request ASAP. Despite the staff seeing the incident, they did nothing. A random woman yelled at the guy about it. I guess that the rude dj and bouncer couldn’t be bothered to deal with a woman being assaulted that night.
I was kicked out of the bar for sitting in the floor. When asked to get up by the bouncer, I complied and just simply said they needed more chairs. And he grabbed me by the arm and kicked me out. A 115 lb girl all alone on the streets of Atlanta. I dont know the guys name who kicked me out. But it is absolutely ridiculous. I go there all the time and Ive never recieved such treatment. Wont be going back. I wouldnt recommend
I have never felt more unwelcome at a restaurant or bar as when my girlfriend and I went to the Dark Horse Tavern. We went in as part of the Atlanta Burger Wars last April. The Dark Horse was featuring a Messy Bessy Burger which we were eager to try. Wed heard of the Dark Horse for years and never tried it so this was our first time. We walked in to a fairly empty house and sat down. We talked quietly for a bit. Finally, We looked around. We saw multiple barbacks, servers, and bartenders. None of them would make eye contact with us. We are an older couple but we were not the oldest couple there that night. We werent dressed like we were either bursting with money or were straight out of the gutter. Maybe we should have because we had to wait until several other people came in and were served before we finally had to ambush a server and force them acknowledge us. Even then it was like we were the problem they couldnt ignore. Ive never had this experience before in any restaurant or bar EVER! Other tables got their drinks before us, got their food before us. Sure. That happens. But to ignore the table completely? It was like we were either on fire or diseased. Regarding the food - The burger was ok - not the best but not the worst either. But it didnt matter. They made very clear they didnt want us there from the start and we will honer their wishes and NEVER return!
I’ve been coming here on and off for years. Decided to get a quick drink at the bar tonight and sat there for ten minutes (on a slow night) while the bartenders had a conversation in front of me and acted like i wasn’t there. Then a group of people who walked up well after me got the bartenders undivided attention. I left.
Great karaoke nights! Only issue is keeping it cool. Even when its 50 out youre gonna over heat. At least they have pitchers of water for you str8 edge people. And DDs get free soda
Well, Id love to give this place 4 stars because the drinks were good, the bartenders were cool and the music was way better than in the rest of the highlands, but one staff member really ruined the experience for me and my friends. The disgusting troll-like door guy who seemed too drunk to even form sentences - and this was before midnight - smelled like he hadnt showered in weeks, which was all the more apparent since he wouldnt stop trying to talk to my friend and his ratty long hair literally smelled like vomit and kept brushing our faces. Not just talk, he insisted on touching her arm and leaning in real close to where she felt physically unsafe. He kept telling us how he played guitar and was going to make it big one day, and also how good looking and SMELLING all the women were in the bar that night (of course he didnt at women, he used much less respectful terms). While he was doing this, I noticed some really young looking guys just walk in the door where he had been checking IDs. I think one of the female staff members noticed to bc she glared at him and he skulked like punished child back to his place by the door. We tried to forget hour it be juat have a good time and we had a few drinks and stuff, but she and I didnt feel safe walking home - we live a few blocks away - because he seemed like a super drink sexual predator. I dont know of this is their normal door guy or if he was even affiliated with the bar, but any place that would hire a scumbag like that especially on a busy Friday night cant possibly have the safety of its patrons in mind. I might go back but if hes at the door Im turning around.
Oh Dark Horse.. to start, this place has some interesting characters. There are a few bars located inside/outside. Theres the main bar when you first walk in, which is the largest out of all of them. They have a small (and I mean small) dance floor upstairs, which is cool on the weekends. Then they have their enclosed bar which leads to the patio outside and a different bar upstairs.
These security guards harassed me and my friends. They kept coming up to me and everyone else in the bar just being petty. The bald security guard has a problem with everyone. “They were like don’t drink that there, don’t eat there , don’t smoke there, you’re jumping to much, you’re talking to much and too loud, I’m going to kick you out if you keep talking to loud”
Great place for live rock karaoke. It can be tricky to figure out when to go so youre not in line forever but it is worth the wait.
Good beer and full bar selection. Amazing live band kareoke in the basement to jam out to some rock and alt rock classics aaaaand ATLs own English Nick is the frontman! Great go to for drinks and fun night out in the Highlands.
Great location, staff is super nice and friendly. Good drink prices. They even have the impossible vegan burger and serve food til 2am. The live band kareokee downstairs is the best!
LOVE the live band karaoke 😋
This place is freaking awesome. 1st time experiencing live karaoke! It was like being at an actual concert 🔥🔥🔥
My very time going and my experience was nice! I like the fact that they have a lot different levels and also different types of music for each level, that was pretty cool... I will definitely be back!
Cool bar with fun atmosphere and great staff. Great place to be on a Friday or Saturday night. Metal karaoke in the basement is a must if youre in Virginia Highlands.
Had a bartender complain when my friends and I very nicely asked for some WATER. Not only that but he had me kicked out after telling him it’s part of his job. I’m usually one to empathize with people in the service industry but he clearly is not cut out for it.
Fantastic staff! Reasonably priced food and beverages. The Live Band Karaoke is something to behold.
Nice dive bar for College students
I am a critical care nurse. I was finished singing a duet with my best friend. And all of a sudden I was asked to leave the premises. There was zero explanation given to me. I am a responsible human being and I do NOT appreciate the way I was treated tonight.
Sharlyse is the best bartender I’ve seen in awhile. Just moved to Atlanta and I’ll for sure be coming back here BECAUSE of her!
Its cool, but.... No Waiter Service for food or drinks (understaffed). No ash trays? But you can smoke inside? Honestly its a cool spot, but has plenty of room for improvement.
Karaoke should welcome all types of music not just one genre, its only the songs the band knows, and you can not to do a female song even if you have the voice to kill it... thats soooo sexist and prejudice cool way I guess to keep some people out the establishment
This place is disgusting! So messy, all the workers are drunk and aggravated, service is slow, and one of the workers, DANIEL, was a drunken mess who likes to start fights with patrons that aren’t doing anything wrong. I would highly recommend going to one of the other bars close by instead of this place.
The basement was pretty crowded but fun, the main floor was okay (your typical bar) however, the drinks were good and those chicken tenders were amazing! Still not used to people smoking indoors in ATL but thats not their fault.
We went to this bar on the recommendation of a friend. After going into the basement area with live music our one friend decided to sit in a bar stool. The dj promptly told our friend that the chair was “for his women” and our friend was not allowed to sit in the chair. Our friend asked the dj what he meant by that and the dj responded with “you’re going to learn today.” Five minutes later security appeared to escort our friend out citing “he’s too drunk to be here,” the man had, had two beers at the establishment. Upon asking the manager of the establishment why the Asian American marine corps pilot was being escorted out or the bar, the staff simply said, he is too drunk. The remainder of the officers at establishment asked the staff why the man was being escorted out while he was sober and they gave the same response of “he was too drunk”. The staff was unprofessional, blatantly racist towards an Asian American officer in the military and clearly subject to a djs obscene claims of drunkardness. I would love for the management of this establishment to subject the film of this event to my lawyers which will subpoena the security footage in the coming days without contest.
Great time good drinks good people especially during karaoke. Had a lot of fun.
I was strangled and thrown out just for stepping up stairs for a second to collect my thoughts. No more than a minute had passed before i returned back downstairs before bouncer told me to go to the back of the line. I tried to explain to him thar my sister and her friends were down below. He refused, grabbed me by my throat and threw me on the ground outside. I am a big guy but a gentle giant. I am deeply saddened and disturbed this bouncers first reaction was to attack my throat instead of opening himself to reason. Men if you wish to be beaten up, by all means feel free to visist this den of knaves.
Unsafe parking lot do not leave valuables in the ASTA parking lot a block down the street. Got my car broken in to. Enjoyed the karaoke room downstairs.
Hi, your bouncer/ doorman Jay assaulted my friend. I would like to turn in a formal complaint personally. Explain the situation. I don’t feel like your entire establishment should receive the backlash but I feel like he should get consequences or have something on his file for what he did.
My group was in line to go downstairs and I went to get another drink. When I came back I went under the rope to get with my group and one of the workers grabbed my neck while I was bent over and wouldnt let me stand up. I circled my body to get out from under his hand and he told me that I couldnt break the line like that. I get that he didnt want me to break the line, but his initial reaction wasnt to talk to me... it was to grab my neck. Then I went to the back of the line and it was like I couldnt get rid of this guy. He then came back there and started talking to me and the guy next to me.
OH Dear god this place is amazing. I ordered delivery from grubhub at like 11:30 pm and the food was STILL amazing. The Caesar salad was delicious and made with real lettuce (not just iceberg). The burger was out of this world. I literally couldnt fit it in my mouth which is sayin somethin if ya know what I mean 😜 (Just kidding about that but it was fantastic). And the mac n cheese side with bacon was nothing short of decadent. 10/10
Ten High (downstairs) karaoke will change your life. Expensive to sing after the first free song, but the crowd is always singing along and the band helps you out if you lose your place in the song!
Got roofied here last Friday, my phone was swapped with a burner and from other reviews they said it may be from a bartender there. Horrible experience
I absolutely love Dark Horse, it’s a great place to go out. The reason it gets 4 stars is because recently it seems like it has gotten much busier and they don’t seem to do much to limit the number of people they let in. This is leading it to be incredibly crowded on busy nights which makes it significantly less fun
Loved this place! Bartenders were excellent, had a great crowd. And of course live band karaoke! Will definitely be back!
Great drinks, people and overall atmosphere. highly recommended. go downstairs for the full live band karaoke too 👏🏼💯🎤
Omg! So amazing! I wish I lived in Atlanta just for this place. Live band karaoke! Went there on a Monday and a Tuesday, it was busy, alive, vibrant, amd rocking! ❤❤❤❤
Excellent atmosphere. Great karaoke band. Good beer & liquor selection. Good food. Good prices. Multiple levels & good bar sections for smokers
Great bartenders but absolutely ruined my dads 50th b day party glad I was thrown out for standing with my gf while the dude who fell out in his chair 2-3 times was good to stay. Won’t go back.
Love this place. Great food and beer with a good atmosphere. Check out the live band karaoke downstairs, its always fun.
I was physically assaulted by the bartender and he took my shirt for trying to order a drink. APD said he was at fault and I declined to press charges. He deserves to be in jail and the manager defended him.
Very homophonic bar… doesn’t allow men to have a bag/purse of any kind when my friends and I all had very large bags with us. Also they wouldn’t give us a specific reason why. It felt very targeted and oscillating. Not cool dark horse..
George helped me find my phone, in the middle of the madness! I truly appreciate him! Saved me big time! Great place! Great atmosphere!
3 words...LIVE BAND KARAOKE!
Good selection of beer but what makes this place extra special is the karaoke downstairs.Me and my friend had so much fun.
Alot of areas to enjoy. Gets really busy in the evening past 10:30 on weekends. Decent amount of people throughout 8-10ish before it got slammed on a Friday night
Sharlyse and Nia were amazing, top service and very kind, they care about customers and are super into you having a good time.
Such a fun karaoke experience on a weeknight! We had a blast and thoroughly enjoyed the atmosphere and friendly staff.
Multiple levels the downstairs is amazing, its karaoke on steroids. Has a band and back up singers that sing with you. Great place
The food was not good. The service was good specially our server was so nice to us. An extra star to this place only for her!Two guys were taking a piss in a wash basin, this kind of a thing just pisses me off..
Fun place to dance at!
Not my type of bar… upstairs was main bar & downstairs was karaoke area. Maybe on a busier day. Nonetheless, crew was very hospitable, I would try again.
They charged my card two additional transactions that I definitely didnt purchase. The environment was hectic and for all I know it was an accident. Regardless this place has horrible management and unprofessional employees.
Great bar nestled on Highlands Ave. The service is good, drink prices are fair. Small patio, but the bar area is spacious. It is very fratastic atmosphere.
What an amazing time I had here at live band karaoke. The atmosphere was fantastic, the band was wonderful and all levels of ability had an absolute blast on stage.
Run by a man who doesn’t like thinking people can be smarter, better looking, or more intelligent than him.And yet, it hides one hell of a gem beneath its floorboards. Rock n Roll!!
I was roofied here on Friday!! Apparently many other girls have been too and they said the bartenders have been doing it.
I hereby re-brand the fish tacos: *Mostly-Tortilla-and-Taco-Bell-Cheese Tacos (*may contain traces of fish).Fish Tacos are laughable ripoff.Problem 1: Must have forgotten/run out of the fillings? We got two orders of these and each taco had about five tiny pieces of arugula, a pinch of diced tomatoes, one pinky-sized bit of fish, and a small avocado slice; the majority of the filling was mostly-unmelted, taco bell-style cheese.Problem 2: Apparently they cannot follow simple directions as the only request we had was to leave off the cheese, but I guess they realized how embarrassingly naked the tacos would look without it.I get that the fish tacos are an appetizer but the tortilla really needs to be half the size to even begin looking proportionate to the amount of fillings, even WITH the TBell cheese! After their minimum order/delivery fee, these two crappetizers cost $22 and, not only did the cheese kind of ruin them (being difficult to fully evacuate from the insides), but this is two bites of food, at best, before its just an empty tortilla with two bites taken out of it.
Karaoke is amazing. They have a live band play for the karaoke. The crowd is always lit. Fun times :)
Went here with friends Saturday night. Lots of fun. Great atmosphere. Scott our bartender was wonderful!
Always seems too crowded to move on weekends. Apparently there is a super elite club upstairs. I feel like Virginia Highlands has better bars to offer.
Live karaoke is awesome! Typical bar food. Service was great. This place hasnt changed in 20 years.
Ordered from Uber eats. Driver arrived and was forced to cancel last minute. Restaurant didn’t have the order ready. Tried calling the restaurant but couldn’t get through and kept, after ringing it forwarded me to VM. Don’t bother with this place.
The food was tasteless. Greasy calamari. Other dishes not what was expected. Sloppy server with a bad attitude. Unfriendly bartender. Not at all Cheers! Watery drinks.
Came here on a Saturday night. The bald, white bartender is a complete d-bag. He was rude to my friend and I for literally no reason. Never gonna come back here
Greatest karaoke with a live band , one of the female bartenders is a batch tho she needs to get a job she actually likes
I have always loved this place, especially downstairs at the metalsome karaoke. Good service, drinks, good times
Great place in Virginia Highlands. Location is great and service is awesome. Usually busy on weekends.Paid parking unless you wanna walk a block.
Dark horse is the perfect place near virginia highlands. great drinks, good crowd, and overall good food. would highly recommend coming here on a busy weekend.
Wont let you perform that dumbass Drowning Pool song in your underwear during the live Metal Karaoke. Total posers. Never going back.
Most fun in a long time!
Great bar in the middle of Virginia Highlands. Small porch but has an upstairs and Ten High downstairs, which features live band karaoke during the weekends
Always a great time! The bartenders are attentive and amazing!
The vibe was fun especially on a cold night. I had a good time while I was there
Such a good spot with the rock n roll karaoke downstairs one of the best bars Ive been to
Okay bar. They have pretty fun rock karaoke
Its always a great time! Live band karaoke is the best
Great atmosphere! Well oriced, no cover, unless you go to the Warren. Metalsome karaoke is a must!
Fun karaoke downstairs. good balance of chill upstairs and outdoor air with a loud fun environment in the basement
Metal Karaoke here is super fun. It gets very packed and therefore very hot in there. Be prepared!
Solid bar. They do live band karaoke which is novel and a lot of fun though the line can be kind of long
Awesome karaoke down stairs. Great pub-like layout upstairs. Only draw back it gets really fratty on the weekends.
Definitely one of the places to be for the younger crowds in the Highlands. It will get crowded late into the night, so avoid it if you are searching for a relaxing evening.
The karaoke band was awesome drinks were good we had a blast..
The security is on point and the one black lady bartender is not a good bartender she is too disrespectful and distasteful
Great city bar. Super spacious and has a ton of nightlife. Great place for a weekend.
I rocked here in 1991 with the white Aphros. It had changed quite a bit since then but still loud and young feel
Great music and atmosphere - only slight downside is it’s hot
A pipe broke while we were here and started spewing on to the dance floor in the basement. Im sure theyve fixed this by now but not really once of those experiences you really get over.
Go to neighbors. This place is unwarrantedly stuffy and unfriendly. Perhaps Dark in the name should tip you off to what youll feel when you walk in. But hey, some people like a bar that matches their mood!
Fun little gem of a dive bar.. love the locals.. food and service was great! Will definitely be back.
Erica the bartender was quick, funny and friendly. Overall, the establishment is a fun hangout bar.
Yo live band is gas 🤘
Lacklustre staff and half the menu was unavailable. Maybe this place is better during peak bar hours but dont expect 5 star service before night.
The place you want 2 visit with some friends and have the time of your life... Amazing Atmosphere!
Great bar and even Better karaoke , it a shame that my waitress just decided to keep a $7 tip for a check of only $13 . She just ignored me when I requested my change back . I was having to much fun to actually file a complaint
Whats to say. Its the usual college bar scene. Definitely overcrowded on weekends, but a good time nonetheless
Its amazing, youre going to have a great time jamming cool songs and drinking
I dont recommend coming here at night on the weekends. Its very loud but they are way over capacity. This make it very difficult to use the bathroom or order a drink. Not enjoyable.
Always a fun time, wouldnt recommend if you are looking for a laid back and uncrowded experience because this place gets loud
Food is great and you get way more than you pay for. Would give the food a 5/5 but table service could be way better.
We came in with a big group and our server was literally running to put orders in. I was super impressed with someone with that much hustle!
Cool place to grab drinks... awesome karaoke set up in the basement. Live band!
Came here to watch a Real Madrid game and it was good. Didnt get something to drink because it was early, but the breakfast was OK.
Good drinks and friendly bartenders. It can get crowded on the weekends, but it is usually pretty relaxed.
Kayla & the other bar staff were awesome...English Nick & Karoke was awesome fun....Cheets
Dirty, dark, greasy and tasteless expensive food, weak beer list, and poor service. Other than that, lovely.
The Karaoke room is overpacked and uncomfortable. The music is generic and mainstream. Please avoid
A haiku:A good atmosphereWill catch so much COVID herePlease don’t go right now
