The Hair Bar

I visited The Hair Bar a few days ago and showed the hairstylist the style I wanted. He insisted that we do not color my whole head in one day to prevent my hair from being damage. I thought that meant he knew what he was doing but I was wrong. He told me he was still going to add color to my entire head. Instead, he only did the front half of my hair and added highlights only. After halfway rinsing the bleach, I asked him to add some conditioner to my hair because it would dry out but he insisted his “21 benefits” spray bottle would do the job. He charged me $180 for this below and I still had to wash my over when I got home because it was dryer than it ever was and smelled like straight bleach. I had to pay someone else another $100 just to fix what he did. The first two pictures are his work. The third one is what I asked for and the last one is after another professional fixed my hair back. The people were friendly but he literally played in my hair for $180.

Tim does an amazing job every time with my hair, and is very efficient and professional!🩷 10/10 recommend!! He is by far the best at hair extensions of all of the hair stylist I’ve been too!!

Kyle was my stylist. Loved him.BUT WAIT, I have to start by saying my last two haircuts gave me severe trauma. The first my fault for going to Smart Cuts to save money. She insisted long layers werent a thing when I asked for curtain bangs and quickly CHOPPED it all off before I blinked; I bawled profusely at home. The second did OKAY but only simple layers in the front for way more money than I shouldve paid.This time, at Hair Bar, Kyle knew exactly what to do from one photo. I wanted curtain bangs/butterfly hair/Sabrina Carpenter vibes layers realness and he more than delivered. Super friendly and took his time to do touch ups and explain how best to style it. And I have enough hair for 9 people, yall, so when he stayed later than everyone, to lock up the store after we were done, and I left with a smile ✨ g l o w i n g ✨ I knew he deserved a fat tip. 20% was not enough. I am so excited to finally have the haircut and wash I ASKED for and all my requests answered. He left me my length but gave me [confidence]. Thats priceless. I walked in just hoping they will have someone that could do what my daughter wanted done and to get an appointment for it. Never would have thought we would end up getting the best stylist AND a same day appointment. Hannah did an amazing job and I wish I would have found her before to do my hair too. Hannah at the Hair Bar was phenomenal. She was extremely meticulous, patient, and very helpful! She even took the time to show me and send me a video link on how to style my new bangs. Her generous tips and honest advice helped me so much! She did a great job on my color! I am so thankful for her and all of her hair magic. I have a 2c/3a-ish curl pattern, and Kyle gives me the haircuts Ive been dreaming of for years. I spent so much money and time going to so-called curly hair specialists across Birmingham over the last 4 years and never left feeling satisfied. Kyle, on the other hand, just gets it, and he doesnt even market himself as strictly a curl master. The new salon is also beyond stunning and in a great location, and as always their prices continue to be very reasonable. I love this place with all my heart 💛💛💛

I mean I don’t know where to start , Glen and his team were so great . This would be my 3rd time visiting his Salon , however this time i messed up my hair by bleaching it . He did not make me feel dumb for doing this on my own however he did make it clear not to do that mess again 😂 Like night and day as you can see from the pics below . He was professional and very at what he does . If you’re looking for “the one” give Glen a try. He will listen to you but also listen to him. He does know what he’s doing and is the “master “ I was looking for.”

Glen has been coloring and cutting my hair for YEARS and I absolutely love how he has kept me healthy while letting me grow it out!!He has changed my red several times (based on the season and mood) and it always comes out just so amazing!! He’s brought in highlights, made it darker, made it brighter, it’s had a purple tint in the sun. Wow it’s just so fun.I also love that the staff is always laughing and having a blast while I’m there.I highly recommend Glen (and honestly the whole staff does AMAZING work)

Hair Bar is the best!! The vibe is very chill and friendly and the stylists are amazing! Tim completely transformed my brunette to vivid, gorgeous pink!!! He used different variations of pink so that it would be textured and layered with depth. Seriously, visit Tim to get the best vivid unicorn hair!!!!

I have been going to the Hair Bar for over a year now and I LOVE every visit. I love the fun atmosphere with all the stylists personalities. Today I went in for my root touch up and something fun! Glen did my root touchup and then Ara did this amazing rainbow in my hair. I love it!!

I felt welcomed from the moment I walked in and the experience was amazing! Tim is wonderful I had no real clue what I wanted to do I just know I want fun and beautiful and he did all of that. Walked in on a whim looking for someone to give me a good curly cut. They had me in and out in about 30 min. I didn’t have time to style, so I did it at home and the cut was perfect. Love the layers and volume. My curls look so good. Thank you!

I saw Tamara at The Hair Bar for combo micro shading/ powder brows. I am blonde and my brows do not show up unless i tint and fill them, which can be a pain. I have been wanting to do this for ages, and i am so glad I did! Tamara did an amazing job for filling them in so they look natural, amazing, and most people are shocked that i had them done. I love waking up and my brows being there, they give me so much more confidence in myself. If you have been thinking about getting this done, i highly recommend Tamara.

I had such an amazing experience! Alexis Brown was my stylist and she did the most wonderful job I could not have imagined! I have been struggling trying to find my hair identity to fit myself and I had never had a perm before, but she made me feel so comfortable and ensured me I would love it. I’m loving my flawless lip blush results by Tamara. She is definitely an expert in makeup artistry. She is confident in what she was does, and I felt comfortable during the process. I would recommend her to anyone looking for permanent makeup!

I’ve been getting my haircut here for over 2+ years. I’ve only had to cancel on short-notice once prior to today.(Fast forward to today) I had an appointment scheduled for this afternoon, but I woke up sick and had to cancel. When I tried cancelling the appointment, they insisted on charging me the full price of the haircut and tacked on an “inconvenience fee”.For context, I’m a long-time customer and have had zero issues with Glenn (the owner/barber) up to this point. The visits usually went fine, and I even left tips for good service. Today was only the second time Ive ever had to cancel on short notice.[UPDATE] After posting this review, Glenn wrote a very nasty response to it (see below). At no point did he reach out to me to resolve the complaint and it’s obvious that he couldn’t have cared less that I was sick.Rest assured I’ll let others know about my experience. Glenn is unprofessional and apparently has issues.

LOVE LOVE LOVE hannah!!!! she’s the literal best and always gets my color right. I usually go for a vivid orange, and she totally got me there! She does a fantastic job keeping my hair healthy and looking good for a long time!!!! I’ve been going to her for over a year and can’t support her enough! So talented!!

My 16 yo daughter was SO excited to visit Tim at the Hair Bar after following him on IG for several months and being blown away by the color transformations he performs. We booked a color consultation for her and trims for both of us, and, unlike with most salons, there was no awkwardness on that first visit. Tim and the entire staff immediately made us feel like wed known them forever. His expertise and confidence in his approach to getting her the color profile she was seeking were impressive and reassuring, so we booked the color service for a few weeks later. On that return visit, it was a lot of fun to watch my daughter laughing and being so at ease with Tim as he worked on her and the final result was just breathtaking. I couldnt believe the amount of dimension he was able to achieve, and her hair was still so shiny and healthy when it was done. She walked away with an entirely new level of confidence and must have said Im obsessed with my hair fifty times that evening. Best of all, his prices are entirely reasonable for the amount of time and effort hes willing to spend making sure the end result is perfect. We are so grateful and we will be back!

Recently visited Leslie at the Hair Bar for the first time and was NOT disappointed. The salon has a very chill/comfy vibe. Leslie was super easy to work with on scheduling and actually got to fit me in earlier than planned. Had a general idea of what I wanted but just told her to do what she thought would look best and I love it! Will definitely be back!!

Tim is UNBELIEVABLE! I have used him the past two times I have needed my hair done. The first time, I was headed to LA and wanted a new hairstyle. I messaged him and he did NOT let me down. He gave me a PERM, and a haircut and I was absolutely amazed. The second time I wanted to do a vivid color in my hair, and I was super scared about this. I messaged Tim and he got me in the salon within two days, and also stayed later due to an appointment I had prior. The salon is a extremely comfortable environment, and Tim always asks me if what he was doing was okay and if it was the style/ image I was going for. Very professional, very funny, and very good at what he does! I have found my stylist, and won’t look back! 💖

I recently had my hair cut, colored and styled. I had attempted to dye my own hair and had not been able to properly take care of it. I was able to easily schedule an appointment. The salon itself is beautiful, clean, and functional. Appropriate safety measures were maintained at all times. I was embarrassed about the state of my hair and felt welcomed and comfortable the minute I stepped into the salon. Alexis was empathetic and patient throughout the entire process. In addition to being extremely talented, she is highly attentive to detail. Alexis made me feel beautiful again. I highly recommend this place to everyone.

I have seen Alexis twice now and I HIGHLY recommend her for curly hair!!! I have very curly natural hair and have had many bad experiences with hair stylists before who did not know how to cut and style natural curly hair. Alexis did a FANTASTIC job cutting my natural curls with layers that actually fall where they should! She also straightened my hair once before and the results were better than anyone that has ever tried to straighten my hair before! I will continue seeing Alexis for my natural curls for the foreseeable future.

The Hair Bar is the only place I go to for my hair needs. Everyone is so friendly. I have been seeing Leslie for a year and a half now, she is amazing and the only person I trust. She installs and blends my hand tied extensions so well that no one ever believes I have extensions. And is able to make my stubborn brown hair stay the platinum blonde color I love without ever over processing or damaging my hair.She’s passionate about making people look and feel their best. I 1000% recommend her(I actually carry her business cards around in my wallet 24/7😅), you will never not leave happy with your new look.

John was absolutely amazing!! I walked in very discouraged with my hair style and condition and walked out feeling like a new person!!! He was very welcoming and courteous with the challenge I threw at him. My hair was very uneven and damaged from previous experiences and issues with hair growth. This salon is so amazingly beautiful!! I love all of the plants in the shop! Also, Alexis is by far the best stylist I’ve ever had. She always knows just what to do when I need my hair cut or colored. I highly recommend her. Especially for color!! Some may say she’s a hair wizard.

I wanted to color my hair for the first time since moving to Birmingham. I googled The Hair Bar and saw all of the positive reviews, and I’m glad I did. Tim took the best care of me. He did such an amazing job with my cut and color. My highlights are beautiful and look so natural. My cut was just what I wanted and I welcomed his suggestions. Tim was warm and radiant. The entire staff was pleasant and the environment is beautifully highlighted by the sun. My experience was nothing short of perfect; I was so relaxed and comfortable the entire time :-)I never leave reviews, but Tim and the rest of the staff deserve enormous recognition for their work and standards.

John is amazing!!! He is definitely a master of his craft. I walked out the door with the best my blonde has ever looked. My cut has given me so much more volume and movement. He also styled my hair for a black-tie event, and everyone was raving over how great my hair looked. I am so glad that I found The Hair Bar! Their entire staff is super friendly, and I love that I can book my appointments online.

I was very excited to try this hair salon that seemed very reputable (and I’m sure most of them are) but I had a very awful experience. My hair was over processed , I sat under “low” heat for 45 minutes and when the timer went off I was sitting there with bleach on my hair for another 30 minutes. My hair sticks up everywhere from the amount of damage/breakage that was done. My hair was beautiful. Hannah told me my hair looked healthy and wasn’t damaged at all when I got there and when I expressed my concerns to her the next day, she immediately said it wasn’t like that when I left. After doing some research, it wasn’t near as bad when I left because it was masked with a K18 treatment, knowing it wouldn’t last as soon as I washed it. My scalp felt burned for about a week, I have spent so much money on products trying to lay down and smooth my over processed hair but nothing works. I have cried my eyes out and even though I’m sure someone from the company will comment and be defensive, I spent more money than I’ve EVER spent on my hair and the one time I do, it gets over processed. I’m sure the guys here are legit given the photos but do yourself a favor and don’t go to Hannah if you want balayage. The top is brassy and my entire head has little strains sticking out everywhere like I’ve held a balloon to it from the breakage. I spoke to another lady and she said heat or no heat, you should never leave it on that long. I was supposed to hear from the manager, and he may have called but I dropped my phone at the airport and it wouldn’t turn on, so I have no way of knowing and I couldn’t ask the Hannah girl because she told me I better not text her again.

John is the absolute BEST!! When it comes to my hair I am very picky, and John has flawless execution when it comes to hair. I have been seeing him for over a year now, and I recommend him to everyone I possibly can! He takes exceptional care of my hair, the color always looks amazing, my cut is perfect, and I have to say my hair is probably the healthiest it has been in such a long time. The salon also has such a fun, chill vibe, and the stylists, as well as other clients, are extremely friendly and hospitable. Highly recommend booking your next appointment here, with John.

I have been getting highlights or color on my hair for almost 11 years and have never been completely satisfied until I let Tim start doing my hair. I am not only in love with his work but him as a person! I have gotten my hair cut by Alexis a few times now. Each time, she has been clean, kind, and creative within my request for a gender-neutral cut/aesthetic. She is immensely open-minded, easy to talk to, and good at what she does. Highly recommended!

I love the hair bar!!! Everyone is amazing and so sweet but the colors that Alexis can do are amazing. I’ve had her color my hair a few times and needing to keep it somewhat natural for work but still adding a pop of color so I could have something fun was exactly what I wanted. The Hair Bar is a beautiful salon with top tier talent! I searched for many years in the Birmingham area looking for Alexis. I finally found her and will never let another stylist touch my hair! She is a master at her craft and has my highest recommendation!

Tim is the absolute best! I moved to Birmingham and was lucky enough to find him via Instagram. He jumped right in even though my extensions were a brand he was unfamiliar with, and has been a complete godsend since then! I don’t know what I would do without him!He has also been able to refer me to my makeup artist for my engagement shoot and my alterationist for my dress for the rehearsal dinner who is actually hand painting my dress! All thanks to Tim!

Went to John for the first time and got balayage, cut, and style. He was great to work with. I showed him some pictures of the color I wanted and gave him some creative freedom and he ran with it. And he did an amazing job I love my hair! The color is not too chunky either; it’s perfect. Going to recommend him to my sister and friends if they ever need a cut or color.

One of the best salon experiences I have had in a very very long time. I saw Leslie today for a cut and style. She did exactly what I wanted from the picture I showed her. She asked during my haircut if I was happy with the length before taking anymore off. How much layering did I want. It came out perfect. I appreciate her listening to me and telling me what she was doing so I didn’t panic about the chunk of hair she was cutting off. Lol. The salon is very inviting and clean. I received an incredible haircut from Tim! He was so kind and asked all of the important questions right away, which made me feel super confident before he ever even touched my head. I asked for a purple ombre from a stylist at another salon and I ended up with patchy pink highlights. I went to John with low expectations but he went above and beyond. After he removed the pink you could really see how bad the highlights were and I was a bit worried. He started working his magic and by the end of it I was thrilled. I came here desperate and left feeling amazing. I was also shocked by the affordable price considering how much time, skill, and product he used.

The Hair Bar is a cute little spot that has everything you’re looking for in a salon. I’ve been going to John for over 10 years. He’s always been detailed oriented + experienced yet personal and attentive as I’ve aged and had various hair needs. Leslie was absolutely delightful! This idea is shear genius. I am physically unable to lift my arms for sustained periods of time and style my hair and also suffer with severe shortness of breath due to MG. My daughters suggested a hair bar. I laughed...and then I found Hair Bar and Leslie right down the road! She took the time to understand my limitations, my hair, and my needs. My hair is so thick and difficult. She made it look like fun lol. Not only did she dry it but she used cutting edge products and styled it as well. I woke up today and it still looks stunning! Thank you Leslie! Okay let me just say - this was the best salon experience Ive ever had, and Ive had my hair colored/highlighted since I was 13. Glen and his team were able to color correct faded fashion color (it had turned a horrific green color) with nothing but a gloss/toner treatment. Hes a color chemist! I thought I was going to lose at least 2 inches of hair off the ends in this process and you can barely tell it was trimmed. My hair feels and looks better than it has in years and Im absolutely thrilled!

Its always a struggle moving to a new city and finding a new hair stylist, but such was not the case on my first attempt and visiting the Hair Bar. John was awesome! He cut and styled my hair perfect on the first attempt as a new client, so glad to have found my new hair home and sylist here in AL.

I had Kyle and like my hair looks fine but it’s NOT what I asked for I showed him a picture of a wolf cut and he straightened my hair and gave me face framing layers I also payed 460$ for just a “color correction” and cut that’s the only part I’m mad ab is how much I spent like does he thinks he’s Jesus but also I have social anxiety so I payed and walked out like nothing happens

I had a great first experience with Leslie. The salon is very clean and everyone was very friendly. Scheduling was a breeze and I loved the text reminders. Leslie’s technique was great. She asked a lot of questions and made suggestions as well. I would definitely recommend Leslie.

I haven’t had a haircut in some time. I’ve always tried different places but could never find my “person”, so it has never been a regular thing for me. Throw a couple of pregnancies into the mix and we’re talking full blown neglect of myself and my hair. IDK what exactly it was that made me say “enough”, maybe it was the revelation that I looked like I was about an inch and a long denim skirt away from door to door knocking, asking others to join my religion that lit a fire underneath me. Maybe it was the funeral I had in a couple of days, where I realized people other than my children, who are used to a no makeup, hair in a bun mama, would in fact see me (and love me anyway). I believe it was a culmination of things that lead me to do something about myself. So, I googled, and The Hair Bar was one of the results. I checked out their website and liked what I saw, they also had great reviews, so I decided to book an appointment. I chose first available, and was assigned to Tim Peacock. I was super nervous as I went in with a Pinterest full of pictures of what I wanted for myself. Tim was standing at the desk to greet me upon my arrival. He was warm and friendly, we went through my pictures, and he got to work. He cut my hair better than I had imagined or hoped for, I was so beyond pleased at the final result. I’ve never left a salon 100% happy with my experience. But this time I was. It was beautifully styled, it had movement, I felt feminine again! While cutting my hair we also discussed color, but I wanted to see how I felt about my cut before committing to something else. Being so pleased, I just felt like me and Tim were on a roll, so when I paid for my cut, I went ahead and booked him again for a bayalage session. I once again went in armed with Pinterest pics and after review, told him to just do his thing, he knew better than me what would be flattering, what would work. Keeping my vision in mind, he worked his magic, and brought it and me to life!! I couldn’t be happier! It’s amazing how even a haircut (from the right stylist) can bring you so much joy, can make you feel like a new person, or like some of the person you once were before you became a snack b*%ch to tiny people!! Clearly I’m going to be partial to Peacock, but EVERYONE there was awesome, friendly, funny, knew what they were doing, professional. I just loved the environment. So if you’re looking for a stylist, if you need a new look, a refresher, do yourself a favor, and choose Tim (or one of his associates) at The Hair Bar. I called the previous day to ask if there was anyone black ( I have thick natural hair) that works there PRIOR to booking my appointment online and was told some name (i forgot) but to go ahead and book that yes she will be here. Walked in and stated my booking appointment and time and was told O she will be here but not until 1. That was too late of a time for me , was not told over the phone that she wouldn’t be in until 1. Slim feminine white guy proceeds to tell me “Well u should have been more specific when you booked online and put the name u were told” (with an attitude ) .. I was already walking towards the door to leave anyway and just replied you have a terrible attitude. He responded “So do you boo!” —How professional

Tim installed my amazing extensions and does such an amazing job I come once a week to have him wash:dry and blowout my hair. Highly recommend Tim peacock for extensions, color and hair maintainance.

Finding a reputable extension specialist in bham wasnt easy but then I found Jess at The Hair Bar and she has been amazing. Her eye for color matching is spot on, and her extension services are unmatched. That is why I call her my weave-master. I always leave happy and so in love with my hair. Glen has been doing my hair for 6 or 7 years now, and I wouldnt trust anyone else with it. My color is flawless every time, and I get countless compliments on both my cut and color. My whole family now goes to Glen, we cant recommend him enough!

Timothy Peacock is a miracle worker. I will not allow anyone else to touch, cut or color my hair. He not only managed to salvage a butchered hair cut but he added color and now I have my confidence back. I am absolutely in love with the results.

I was really excited about this hair place. I’m a busy mother who has to work around my husband schedule to get to do anything. First appointment was cancelled… annoying but ok. Second appointment cancelled due to medical emergency apparently. Mind you they have you put a card on file with them so they can charge you in case you cancel yet it’s ok for them to cancel an hour before the appointment various times. Like what? Gladly taking my money elsewhere. Honestly if it really was a medical emergency the second time they cancelled I hope the person is ok but still. Annoying.

Mallorie is my favorite stylist that I’ve been to. I’ve had such a hard time keeping my hair an ice gray. The color always washed out. Mallorie came up with a great regime for me and now it’s perfect every time. Thank you so much! I’ll be coming back for a long time!

I went to Ara for the first time yesterday and am OBSESSED. I didnt really have to tell her my vision- just that I felt it was dull, choppy and needed some revival. I am super picky and she brought it back to life. The atmosphere was great, loved the drink menu and cannot wait for my next visit!

My friend told me John would bless my hair and she was so* right! At the beginning of the fall he took my old grown out, and might I add orange and crispy, balayage and turned it into a beautiful honey blonde. Afterwards he helped get my hair on track to being healthy again by helping me figure out which products to get. I was also able to purchase a halo extension which has soo much hair 😍. Now I’m rocking a s’mores-blonde for the winter and my hair looks better than ever.

I was not happy with my experience. The people were nice but when it came to dealing with hair my stylist was awful. I wanted a cut and a deep conditioning treatment. I just had a baby and my hair is falling out and frizzy and dry. So we go to the sink and im pretty sure all she did was just shampoo my hair. She put one thing im my hair and i have a feeling it wasnt the deep conditioning because she then proceeded to detangle my hair with her fingers and rip all my hair out. (If it was conditioner it wouldnt have been that tangled) and i just got done telling you all my hair is falling out so yeah just pull the rest out please. Then she cut my hair in about 5 mins and i didnt get the layers i wanted. Then the blow dry... Now i just got a conditioning treatment and she puts NO products in my hair. No heat shield no blow out cream nothing. Just starts blow drying so my frizzy hair is everywhere because she didnt even use the nozzle you put on the blow dryer to use with a round brush. Then continued to add more damage to my hair by straightening it to get rid of the frizz and didnt even do a good job with that my hair was still frizzy and not straight. Also the owner kept making jokes about women like how he changed siri back to a womans voice because shes so dumb.

DO NOT GIVE THEM YOUR MONEY!!! The guy that was working on Sunday when my daughter and I came to get her hair cut (because she starts Kindergarten soon) was unbelievably rude and snotty! He looked my daughter and me up and down and told me that there wasnt anyone there that could cut her hair and that I didnt have an appointment (something hed failed to mention was a requirement when Id called to inquire about getting her hair cut shortly before we arrived). He said that Sundays were too busy (there was one other person there and hed left in the middle of cutting her hair to go next door and pick up his food- the customer told me) and that they required an appointment. He was incredibly pretentious and rude. Also, what kind of monster looks at a child like they are better than them?!?!?!?! Id understand if she was dirty or had on ratty clothes, but she was not. I had on blue jeans and a t-shirt, but I was running errands and dealing with our dog.DO NOT SUPPORT THIS BUSINESS!!!! DO NOT GET YOUR HAIR CUT HERE!!!! DO NOT SUPPORT SOMEONE TREATING A CHILD LIKE THAT!!!!!

This place is awesome! I got my hair done by Hannah and I LOVE IT! A little pricey… but it’s totally worth it! It looks fancy, the staff was welcoming and friendly, and the service was great!

Elise is AMAZING I cannot recommend her enough! It is a queer friendly space but Elise goes above and beyond to make me feel comfortable via using the correct pronouns and by helping to correct thought patterns about many different groups of people through allyship!

Very unprofessional, I told the stylist what I wanted and then he told me a lot of stuff about how my hair was going to get damage with the color that I wanted and he suggested me about another similar color, I agreed, thinking that at least they were going to give me a color close to or similar to the one I wanted, they ended up charging me $ 100 just for dye (not even bleach) that was almost the same color as my hair, which I already had, I complained, they make me come back and reschedule saying that they weren’t gonna charge me any money, and I go from where I live an hour away from the place, and when I got there he told me that I had to pay for everything again, even more, $140.
