While I mostly stick to the gay bars in Hell’s Kitchen, this was a nice change of vibe and scenery. The outdoor area is really nice — despite patrons smoking out there even though there were signs saying not to smoke. Bartender seemed a bit annoyed at times with serving — unsure why.Drinks prices were great for NYC — low when compared to Manhattan. While the sneaker selections of the Williamsburg residents always perplex me…I’ll be back to this place for sure!

Fun bar - but despite both restrooms being labelled gender neutral, a bouncer sat by the doors told me I was only allowed in the ‘Gender neutral with urinal’ toilet, entirely defeating the point of having gender neutral restrooms at all. Disappointing for a queer space with lots of trans people.

If Nancy needed a kidney, I would give her my kidney. If Nancy didnt need a kidney, I would give her my kidney anyway. Shes just that great!Listen Ive interacted with a lot of surly bouncers in my day, and has she got the routine down pat! What an authentic New York experience! Ayy Im walking heah! Statue of liberty! I dont know why people keep giving it bad reviews. Checked out the drag open night on Mondays. Great way to see local talent. Small and cozy but you can feel the love the regulars have for the place. In response to a few of the 1 stars I saw before going myself: Bouncer was brisk and was cautious of people coming in already super drunk or high, which I appreciated because it is a smaller dive bar. 21+ only so you need to have something to verify your age. (Which is very normal in my experience.). Thought it had charm and had a blast.

Bartenders are uneducated and treat customers poorly. And if you dont tip them at the moment they get upset. And they talk to you rudely, its not worth going to these places of low prestige.

EDIT: You know what, even though I was really annoyed at that door person at the time, she has been working there a long time and is basically a nice person if a little grumpy. I also really appreciate that this bar is a place thats always there and so Im gonna put more stars on this review and appreciate that people can have a bad night a little better.I like the place overall: they have nice programming and a cute backyard space. But listen, there’s this person who works the door, her name is [redacted] I think but I could be wrong. She’s costing the business money because she won’t let people in with forms of ID that are perfectly legitimate. I’ve watched her to do so several times to myself and others.

Edit: A bouncer of matching description was arrested for assault of another patron this past weekend. This is sickening. If anyone has any other incidents to report, I encourage you to go to the police about this ASAP.Is it ok to assault someone? This bar thinks so—the bar man outside hit me upside the head because my friend is Arab and they don’t like that apparently. Avoid at all costs

I love the Metro because my friends love it. The patio is great and it’s wonderful to be out and about again. There’s one bartender in particular that could stand to be a bit more pleasant when dealing with anyone other than masculine presenting, cis white men. If I, as a non-gender conforming person of color should dare to ask a question about bar service (after repeatedly feeling overlooked) wouldn’t it be reasonable to be answered politely?Kick the attitude and remember that you’re serving other queer folks who are nothing but kind and waiting patiently for their first drink of the evening.I’ve been in the service industry for 15 years myself and it’s really not that hard to be a kind person.

Review №12

I know metropolitan is a staple of the gay community in Williamsburg. That being said, every time the female bouncer is working is a problem. She used to reject my friends because they were trans and didn’t have a current ID because the laws do not allow them to have their actual gender on their ID cards. If those are your rules that’s fine but she is the only one who is rude and making up her own rules. She is rude to the vast majority of guests. If the idea is to make money and be accommodating then she is the outlier. Girl retire, you have out stayed your welcome

Im amazed no one has shut them down I used to frequent back in 2009 but stopped due to it being a sh*tthole from rude door people to worse bartenders pouring watered down drinks and unless you were a regular local they’d be polite to you and from the other reviews here seems it’s still gross which is unfair to the lgbt community. Explains why people started their own clubs elsewhere. Do better guys

A pretty average gay bar by the Lorimer stop. The atmosphere isnt anything exciting, the drinks are cheap. Its just as fun as you want it to be. I went for a gay friends birthday party among a group of many gay men, some straight men, and some women. Honestly I had a blast dancing with my friends and really enjoyed it. Im not sure if all of of our group felt the same way, but overall it was still fine.

Extremely rude bartender. We were trying to get the attention from the bartenders and no one was taking care of us so we waved. We didnt wave in a rude way we were actually laughing cause honestly it didnt really matter we were just trying to get his attention. He came and waved backed in our faces in a rude way and said Dont do that. I noticed he was upset and asked is everything okay? He responded by just walking away. Told another bartender to take care of us. I asked the other bartender why he got upset? He said we just dont like when people wave I said well we werent trying to be rude so there was no reason for this individual to speak to us like that I asked for my card and left and left a nice note to the bartender. I dont understand whats the big deal..... Stop feeling so entitled to absolutely nothing. No one is disrespecting you. If a wave upsets you then maybe you should find something new to piss you off.

All it takes is one bartender to completely spoil your whole experience and unfortunately that happened tonight. I got an empty shot glass and scolded for not tipping from a specific bartender. When in fact I was tipping and before I even had a chance to tip him for the shot and beer, the incredibly demeaning comments were made. 1 star for the bartender, 5 stars for the talented drag performers.

Affordable drinks and a great dance floor. I took my cousin and we had such a blast, he who does not dance, danced. It is conveniently located near other mixed and gay bars in the area. Awesome! I now get that Brooklyn has a scene like the East Village just with cuter guys and none from jersey.

I mean, I love this place. Not because its perfect, but because its imperfections make it charming. It may smell a little off every once in a while, but that just means its loved. The drinks are cheap, the company is always fun, the music is always pumping, and the vibe is just right to meet great guys and dance your face off. Go in the warmer weather, and you can rock out on the enormous back patio. Go when its cooler outside, and you can gather a gaggle to play some 8 ball around the pool table. What are you waiting for? GO!!!

This place is alright. The 5 dollar cover is always a pet peeve of mine (it was friday, btw), but the drinks being 7 dollars made up for that (a lot of bars drinks are always 9-10 dollars). The atmosphere kind of reminded me of a college town bar, which is fine. Theres a dance floor more or less and it was pretty popping around midnight. There is a nice outdoor area in the summer, which is a great asset. Overall, an alright place.

They need to work on their crowd control on Monday nights. I went early and paid my fee to see the amazing Thorgy. However the crowd was too packed in. Vic the bartender was pretty amazing and Thorgy was a great host.

Ive been a loyal patron for over a year. I come in everyday, support all my friends who have events and parties there. But tonight I was racially profiled, insulted and disrespected by a bartender who mistook me for a patron who had to be thrown out. I guess all black females look the same to them. Once the mistake was realized I got a half assed apology from the manger and a free drink. The bartender who discriminated against me never apologized. If you ever wonder why you see no blacks working here, maybe this will give you some insight. I was mortified and insulted to my core. I would have never thought a gay bar is where I would face bigotry, but I guess anything is possible in this world. Watch your back if your black , you may get profiled, and if it does happen do not think for a second its an innocent mistake. Disgusting

Okay, a split rating here. If youre a Williamsburg boy younger than 30 and you like same, youll have a great time. Absolutely horrible bar… I’ve come here a number of times and always put up with the bleach smell and the crazy customers. The bartenders were generally always cool, that was until last night. We ordered four vodka-redbulls, one was supposed to be a double. We paid the 57.00 dollars for the drinks, and they were horrid (I have another choice word but this is a family friendly site). The drinks were not strong, and the “double” was the same color/shade as the rest and tasted no different. All four people in my party tried it and agreed the bartender cheated us. Go to Macri Park, it’s right around the corner and it’s a much better experience.

Ive been here a few times. They have BBQ on Sundays at five. The DJ (DJ Madonnavon) is awesome. I love the black walls sprinkled with glitter. They have a big back yard for chillin. Great air conditioning and WiFi. But my big problem is the bathrooms. They have separate mens and womens rooms but there are no locks on the doors and so you have to hold the door shut while doing your thing and guys wont even check to see if there is anyone in the stall, they will just push the door open. I know no locks on doors is fairly common in gay bars but for some reason these bathrooms are more difficult to handle.

I loved this place. Until I realized how blatantly racist it is. I was completely disregarded by a bartender who was DRUNK. When a white man came up to get a drink after me waiting almost ten minutes he jumped to get his drink. Upon this I told him I was here first and the drunk bartender YELLED at me. I have never been discriminated like this because im brown. And ive worked all over the country. If youre a white hipster you are welcome if not. Good luck. I will never go again.
