Wonderful hosts and incredible food. My husband and I stopped in for dinner and were made to feel like family. Top notch Mediterranean fare. Highly recommend!
Ive been coming here since I was maybe 11 years old and I **always** forget they have food. Ive eaten here exactly once (not counting backstage hummus) but it was great!Fantastic place for shows, this place is (I think) The Last Real Rock n Roll Club in Boston.
I’ve attended countless hardcore / metal gigs across various Middle East venues and have never been disappointed! The staff members are professional and courteous, sets are always punctual and another big positive is the fact that they don’t use Ticketmaster / livenation for bookings! Long live Middle East \,,/
Great venue for live music, theres probably about 5 different rooms with music, on weekends up to 3 of them could be having shows at the same time. Great venue especially for catching rock, metal, punk bands.
Sucks when youve traveled over 20,000 miles to lose an ID to have everything but a physical card but proof of business, Secretary of State, and Press Credentials but cant walk into a restaurant for karaoke even when I dont drink. . . Really sucks. . .
The staff is fantastic. The food is always solid. Their weekly events are great. Thursday is the best night because they have DJ Sparky hosting karaoke then and its always a fun time.
I have never had a worse experience at a club. It’s almost like they are determined to lose money. Save yourself the trouble and go somewhere else. I am 22, the bouncer decided my real id was fake and that it was now “his.” He called over two other bouncers who also decided it was fake without scanning or asking me anything. I said I needed my real id back and that I would call the police. They were super rude. The police came and immediately confirmed my id was real. Instead of apologizing the bouncers continued with their weird power trip and decided we couldn’t come in because “they didn’t like us.” I don’t know what else they expected me to do but I definitely expected more and will NEVER come back.
On my personally experience, the staff were the kindest and happiest people on earth. We had quick service from staff with a smile always on their face. Their bubbly personalities really made our evening an extra special night.
Place is one of the worst establishments I’ve ever attended. Waiting staff was terrible and I would never recommend. TAKE YOUR MONEY ELSEWHERE
The last real venue around in Boston for mid sized shows. I grew up in this place along with the Rat and have seen countless punk, hip hop and hardcore bands here. Thank god they havent sold out, we dont need any more corporate places to blend in with the rest of them.
Very cool location right in downtown Cambridge close to a bunch of other bars. Upstairs is a casual, hip middle eastern restaurant with a really reasonably priced menu, good food with a good selection of vegetarian options and a full bar. Downstairs is a great little venue with live music and another full bar!
I came from Pittsburgh to see Blackmilk. It was everything I wanted out of an intimate concert and more. He was so personal and vocal with the crowd it was amazing it felt like I was just with a group of friends than seeing a band. The venue was a little hot , stuffy, and it was quite small. But honestly I couldnt have imagined the concert working in any other setting. Not to mention I was so impressed with the band being dedicated enough to stay to meet and greet with almost every person in the crowd. Im sure they were the last to leave the club. Looking forward to seeing them again ASAP! The band was the icing on the cake I cant wait to see them play live again!
Havent been there here in a long time, but I used to see bands there often and really enjoyed it. Small, intimate place so you e got a great view no matter where you are!
They will not let you in if they think you’re too drunk when you’re really just naturally extroverts. Thanks though, you don’t deserve my business
Great venue for a small show! We will have to go back and try the food sometime.
Changed the concert date, said they would offer refunds, but never did.
Great place for a quick and tasty middle eastern bite. It has many floors and hosts many concerts and events.Ive only been there for dinner so far, its not expensive and the food portions are good.Service was great.I suggest you get the cold appetizers, a salad, their shawarma sandwich and a meat platter.. and share it with your friends :)
It serves its purpose. The stage is set up so you can get close to your favorite artist but a lot of people may think thats a negative because the security isnt as high. Its a small place and it gets really hot in there when youre watching a show. A bar that is an upscale but shows artists perform here
The bartender upcharged me and my dates well drink order to a top shelf drink without asking and added his own tip to the bill.
Zero concept if this is a good restaurant or club, what I will tell you is that Emo night rules here. Cheap drinks and great cover bands. Bring a $50 bill and go nuts.
This is one of the best places to catch metal/hardcore/punk shows. In fact its one of the only places, too, so I cherish this establishment and the many venues it hosts. Ive seen so many good bands here. The bar is reasonably priced and has a good enough selection. Its not exactly the cleanest place ever, and someone standing near me at the last show ripped a fart and their diet must consist of nothing but pepperoni, otherwise Id give the atmosphere 5 stars.
If you can catch a good local band its such a sick place for a show!
Its been the same great place for the 35 years i have been going there.... and blessed to have been on their stages mcay times.
This is a great venue for concerts! Its intimate and nostalgic. With an atmosphere that reads early 80s- mid 90s.The beer on tap will please both the brand buyer and the Crafted connoisseur. They stay booked and busy and are located off public transportation!I would definitely attend many concerts at this venue. I recently went to see the Talking Kweli Summer tour 🤩Dont ask where Im standing got see your faves and get closer than any venue in town!
I attended the downstairs club, which is a good place for bands that out on smaller shows. Ive been at the downstairs here several times, but never the restaurant on the street level. My only complaint about the downstairs venue is that it is so hot near the stage!
Venue is exciting, bar is a deal , and does host exciting shows, however with small mistakes like walking the wrong way - security WILL act overly aggressive , yell and put hands on you even while you are complying. My partner is visually impaired - while looking for the restroom she walked inside of the empty venue in the back of the restaurant- we complied as soon as we were called but security still advanced upon us and acted extremely aggressive, yelled and corned us. I had a hand put on me as we were desperately looking for the exit door (actually labeled EMERGENCY EXIT, right by the STAFF door). It’s quite ironic when security makes you feel LESS safe than being around the club’s own patrons. I needed to relieve this tightness by talking to security supervisory calmly - they each became defensive, lied about putting their hand on my back, and cussed us out (2 bearded white men, blonde white woman). At a high level this venue feels unsafe for women, queer people and possibly other minorities concerning the nature and ratio of the security staff. This incident and the review posted by Jake leads me to believe that these same security staff will side with abusers in the venue if that still ever was brought to concern.I can only recommend this place if they had a significant change in security staff.
Bartender completely ignored me, looked me dead in my face, seeing that I was in a wheelchair and couldnt get exactly in front of her to place my drink order due to the chairs and people in the way.
Solid spot, 3 restaurant/bar places all together. With a downstairs venue. Decent sized, definitely a basement show. Gotta give a shout out to the owner Nabil. Grab a bite and see a show.
Servers are super nice! You should know that the Corner (one of their three establishments) caters to those in their 30s or 40s, but even so, they were super nice and friendly to a 20 something who was clearly lost. Be sure to check out what event they have going on each night, it changes on the regular!
Been here so many times and it’s always been one I look forward to! Andrew ran sound and absolutely crushed it. So accommodating and helpful from load in to load out. They do there best to help bands with parking and have been helpful with anything else a touring band could need. Thank y’all!
Fantastic experience! Fast service and the owner was so welcoming! Got to sit anywhere we wanted to eat and the Choco Martini was super yummy :) Attended a concert in the upstairs venue and it was such an intimate concert experience! 10/10 will be coming back in the future for a show!
Oof.. I mean, for a small hole-in-the-wall rock venue, its what youd expect. Dismissive, rude employees, sticky floors etc. But I cant stress enough how rude both bartenders were. The one band we came to see was a no show and no one mentioned it at all, even after we sat through the first band. Someone in this whole place must have known, even 5 minutes before he was scheduled to go on so they should have made an announcement so we could start our 2.5 hours drive home. We will not be back,
Guy was very aggressive to my girlfriend and shoved her. I stepped in and told him not to touch her. Guess who got kicked out? This bar is not a great place for women.Edit: bouncer is friends with the person who assaulted her. Fantastic place for women!
Be careful if you here on a night when they let one of the venues get to overcapacity. Just another station nightclub fire situation waiting to happen smfh
I only went here for a show and never had the food so idk how it is however the concert here was great and the set up was nice. These small clubs go wicked hard and i love it. Also drinks are only $10 which is amazing since MGM Fenway charges $18-$22
The venue was large but the show upstairs was passionate and one vocalist spoke about the horrors going on in war-torn areas in the world.Either way it wa memorable.
I love the atmosphere! Good music & art.. Friendly & attentive staff! However, first experience with the food wasnt good. Middle East salad was 11$ and was.. like a 6$ side salad at a diner.
No halal meat, red sangria had apple juice in it, meat pies were pizza roll sized empanadas that were cold and possibly microwaved.Arabic coffee was just boiled water with a little coffee. For $7 a cup I expected more than water with coffee extract added.$170 for tiny servings and low quality food it’s for sure a place I will never be eating at again.
Say a PRAYER for me - think I am FINALLY going to find my NEW BAND & get PAID for my talents !!!The food I ALWAYS ENJOYED YET the music VENUES are spacious clean & FUN LOVING & cant wait to get paid for my talents & preform with HOLISTIC MUSICIANS like me !!!THANK YOU OWNER - NABIL SATER for keeping the Boston/ Cambridge (both former OLD HER- STORIC CITIES ) MUSIC SCENE VIBRANT & FANTASTIC !!!
1st time coming here for a doobie show, being from NH the drive wasnt too bad.it i a one way in and out when tryig to find the place so be prepared. i showed up after 8pm which made it so i could park right on the side of the building without needing to pay or get lost . show was in a side area and it was interesting. i wouldnt mind coming here again in the future.
They allow ins and outs, cheap parking nearby, bouncers let you stage dive, 5/5
Ive been to 2 hip hop shows in the basement in the last 6 months. GREAT atmosphere, friendly staff! Good sound... Everything was great.
Yall are absolutely wild.2 Double captain and cokes, and 2 white tea shots that the male bartender never heard of, I got charged 68 dollars with an added in gratuity of 10 bucks!. I drove 3 hours just to watch zeke beats, and I dont care who plays here, ill never be back. Clean the downstairs also. It was so nasty. Floor was sticky before the show even started last night.
Downstairs is a Great venue- very intimate and good prices. We had a blast!! The bartenders are extremely cool and seem to have fun working at a music venue.
Excellent musical offerings and great vibe. This place is a fixture on Mass Ave. Ive seen many shows here and played a few myself.
Black artists feel a way about performing here. The staff who run the music venue/ events are cold and unprofessional. Ive seen my favorite acts refuse to play here again.
Absolutely incredible!! First of all the staff is great. We were a very difficult party with a preteen and twin toddlers. The staff was completely unphased with the screaming, throwing and dumping water in my lap 🤣 The food is incredible and well priced, plus the portions are more than generous. The venues are awesome and I cant wait to come back again sans children to check out their nightlife. Absolutely recommend this business.
Went here to see my friend play live. Middle East has sections of its venue. I was in the corner venue; great little spot for intimate live performances. The drinks were really good and mixed well; I ordered Jameson-Gingers and had no problems.Seating is also great, but if youre going there for a performance, they clear part of the floor to stand or dance. Theres still places to sit and plenty of space to dance with your friends as it wasnt super crowded. Definitely recommend for a night out. The atmosphere is what youd expect; right on the corner of Mass Ave; great people watching. They have a great-looking menu which I havent tried just yet. Overall, drinks, sound and service were excellent. Only reason I havent presented 5 stars yet is because I havent tried their food!
Decent venue for a multitude of things, like metal shows, nightclub events etc. Only thing I have to say is the DJ some nights was rude as hell when I tried to request a song or compliment on a sample that wasnt the preferred genre. The security guys at the door for the most recent show I went to were very nice. However on the website it said the show was $20. Then when I went in, it was $22. Please make sure you update the prices on your advertising
This is actually a pretty decent place to go have a drink and eat they always have all kinds of different events and shows at this venue. They have DJs bands music on different nights depending on the event
I went to see a concert there the place is kind of a dive bar but in a good way. I like the small concert setting it makes you feel closer to the band.
Saw Kasbo perform here several months ago. Cant speak to their food as I was Downstairs in the nightclub area for the concert, but the drinks were what you expect when youre going to see a show (standard but gets the job done!).Love the atmosphere in the basement, not too crowded, easily accessible coat check/bathrooms, and you can enjoy the show from many vantage points- even towards the back, away from the stage. Uniquely intimate AND big atmosphere at the same time. Highly recommend if an artist you like is playing here! Also reasonably priced tickets.
Went to support a friend for open mic night! (stand up comedy) Josh day (the MC) did not appreciate that a big group was here to support someone and taking up space/making noise and heckled us while we paid hefty tips. He also cut off our friend by interrupting him for 2 minutes and then cutting him off. I don’t know what issue he had with us but he kept on disrespecting us throughout the show by flipping us off as he walked off stage. Will never come to the Middle East again and if anyone wants to do stand up I would recommend they don’t come here either.
Great cheap food in an old and austere room. Awesome service and general staff. It was a very hipster vibe, suitable for Central Square. I had lamb shank with couscous, which was amazing. The multiple music venues (we went for an event) are fun and lively. God bless the owner for his many years of friendly service the the community.
This place is an institution- and well worth visiting based on the sheer coolness of that. It’s as funky as central square can get. Service is laid back and friendly, the food is not fancy but well made and clearly described. They don’t really ever change the menu. At night the corner part of the restaurant may or may not have live music or dance - check the calendar. The section in the middle of the block is generally a non-entertainment spot w the same menu if the first spot is too loud.
2 Basement Rooms - both of them RAP/HIP HOPStreet Level Entrance- Good Food, Bar and Smaller Room- Seen Mostly JazzOne More Room; Couldnt Tell if it was Street Level or Upstairs - But Definitely ForHard & Soft Rock & Heavy Def MetalWhole Place = OFF THE CHAIN.PERSONAL EXPERIENCE 4.9🌟 ALSO🔥🔥🙏
Ive gone here for a few concerts, both for their basement and upstairs venue. The concerts are always nice and small, great support to the little guys! Ive had some unpleasant experiences with one of the workers but everyone else there is very kind, I wont let that one worker taint my view on this place. I plan to return again when another artist is playing there!
The Middle East is an awesome small venue for killer shows. I havent been to the restaurant hooked to the front of this place but it always seems busy and has additional outdoor patio space to dine at as well. There are many other great restaurants on the same street. Definitely a great venue to attend. Crowds are always awesome and I look forward to knowing that the band I want to see is playing here instead of other places.
Great venue and a good bar. I have seen a couple of shows here and they all have been great! The stage is cool and the dance floor is big. If thats not your scene there is seating on the side that lets you see the stage. The battery is good and not to pricey for a club but they dont do any complicated drinks. I tried to order a Mojito but that was not on the menu so I had to stick with a Rum and Coke. If you have the chance to check this place out you should!!!
It is a pretty good venue, I have been to shows both in the downstairs and upstairs. One they should do is improve the sound systems, the house PA systems are getting really old and should be replaced with modern great sounding equipment. Both shows I went to had pretty terrible sound and not because they werent mixed well.
Most amazing place in the whole Boston area. Why? Well because is family owned/operated! And concentrate a vast amount of culture options for everyone. Worth to go and go back every week 🤘🏻
Live music from national acts to locals. Local art in the walls and even some pretty good food. Its a good place to catch a show if your at the corner restaurant or downstairs. I dont like the backroom upstairs, though. The pillars/columns block the stage for maybe a third of the crowd. Besides that, no complaints.
Its a great environment! I frequent the place on Tuesday nights for the comedy open mic, but theyre almost always hosting events in one of their multiple stages, if not one at each stage simultaneously. The beer and food choices are decent as well. Check the place out if youve got the night off and no plans, i bet theyll have something going on!
One of the best venues in Boston with a variety of live music areas under the middle east banner.. restaurants too and friendly efficient staff
Went to a show (upstairs) for the first time. The guy working the box office was super helpful and friendly and guided me to the right place. I had my name on the list because a friend knew a band member and even that was seamless to get my ticket. Very small upstairs venue, but set up nicely. Pit in the middle with the bar on one side and merch on the other. Drink prices were as youd expect at a concert. I love how close you are to the stage even if you stand at the very back. Definitely want to return for another show soon.
PELASE DONT TEAR IT DOWN. I havent met a single person who doesnt love the old-school vibe of this place. It matches the crowd and smaller artists. We have so many new and generic McVenues, we need some genuine ones. Thinking of Big Night Live, Roadrunner, House of Blues. The Middle East is by far the best venue hands down. And now with them doing Raves, its complete. The basement couldnt be a better place.
The food here is sub par. The drinks are great. The staff is great. The live music is great. But the food really leaves something to be desired. Even for middle eastern diner food you could put a little more effort into things. It’s 2018.
Amazing staff working the events here. I attended a show in the nightclub last night, and it was pretty hot in there. My girlfriend stood too long in one place and passed out, and the staff working was there in less than 5 seconds. They were extremely professional and courteous, and offered her free sodas/water after. Even checking in on her throughout the rest of the show. It was much appreciated and we will definitely be back! You can come here assured you and your friends will be safe no matter what!!PS the sound in the nightclub is great.
Attended a great show downstairs. Free water for the crowd at the bar. Enforced no vaping or smoking. This rule was enforced, multiple people were pulled out of the crowd👍🏻. Good to see them enforcing what they say. Was never too hot or too cold as they had the AC blasting the crowd in intervals. Great experience.
Cute night club with great food! We watched a concert after eating and both were amazing. Setting is small and intimate so we felt as if we were at a private concert. Highly recommend.
Love the Middle East. They have like three different venues inside for different size artists/events. Ive been to like 6 concerts here, and I also watched a female wrestling match to benefit planned parenthood here. Solid place. Good places to eat around here and they got a restaurant too.
Went there to watch the extraordinary Aristocrats perform live, for a ridiculously low priced ticket. The Aristocrats are easily some of the best musicians in the world. So Middle East club gets 5/5 stars.
Friendly, accommodating staff, delish food, and one incredible show! Middle East did not disappoint in any way, shape, or form. This place has it all! I also loved that they showcase local artists on the walls. Everywhere you look, no matter where you are in the building there is something that will catch your eye! I highly recommend this place!
Review is for Sonia. As you might assume, this place is kind of grungy. But so fun!!! Came here for a sold out show and while it was really packed, it wasnt unreasonably so. Kudos for putting out a self-serve water station. Coat check was not too painful. No big lines out the door. Good sound system. I dont know. I kind of liked it.
Great show great bar and got to see deadlands they were great too
Went to see a show in the basement and that area is a really great venue. Drinks are average priced and the atmosphere is great. There is even a tiered section off to the left that allowed great viewing of the performance. Would definitely recommend
Local and small touring band venue. Its a Boston institution. Several performance spaces. A number of bars. The food upstairs is pretty good too, though it is not the best example of Lebanese cuisine Ive ever had. The performances spaces are differently sized, but even the largest the downstairs is an intimate venue. It can get loud and hot -- but it is a club after all.The bouncers have always been polite & professional. The bartenders are quick. Its always a good time.
I ate at the ground level restaurant, so my review has nothing to do with the nightclub aspect of this establishment. I ordered the beef couscous. While the meat was cooked very well, all I could taste was vinegar. It was like the whole plate was drenched in vinegar. To add to my distaste of the meal the music played over the speaker was very loud and was at times profane. This was not live music being played from the nightclub, but was hand selected music from the staff. It was very unprofessional. I will not be patronizing this establishment again.
One of the oldest and best places in Cambridge for live music great food and plentiful drink options. The staff is always on point and Ive been going here for music food and a great hangout spot 100% I cant recommend this place enough.
Drove almost 6hrs round trip, for my absolute favorite band. First time at this venue, but its DEFINITELY not my last. Extremely friendly staff, bartenders, security, etc. For a death metal show, the sound was on point. Re-entry is always a plus for us smokers. Im a big guy, and can get sweaty quickly when inside smaller venues, but amazingly enough, they had a decent AC unit that kept the air flowing nice and cool. Plenty of space and seating throughout, for those who enjoy watching from a distance. That also meant there was ample area for the crazy ones who mosh, without having to worry about someone flying into you. I think Ive made my point. I dont write reviews, but after some sub-par experiences at other venues, I feel its worth the time writing this, as I prepare back to Maine. Cant recomend enough, will be back soon.
I can only speak for the Downstairs concert venue, where I saw Now Now, but I really enjoyed my visit here. The barkeeps were friendly and quick to serve, the layout of the stage and standing area was really nice, with some seating available (which is rare at concert venues with a sminilar atmisphere). The bathrooms were nice and I really have nothing to complain about. I will go again.
Didnt eat but wished we had. This is a fabulous club and I cant believe we havent been here before! Will definitely return.
Wow, incredible food and incredible service. We had a last minute change of plans and they were able to quickly accommodate our group of 18. Travis and Rob took great care of us and the food was great. You’ve got to try the harissa paste and any dishes with the yogurt sauce!
Amazing food & atmosphere. My boyfriends band played upstairs, great venue and great restaurant. Sometimes figuring out which entrance to go in is slightly confusing, but once you figure out the layout its fine.
Im torn. I came here for a show, which I loved. I loved the artist and glad I got to see her here. On the other hand, this venue is strange. Its dirty and dingy, and they dont really dim the lights much so you can see how dingy it is. The acoustics is terrible for a live music venue, and they kept playing other music on the speaker while the artists are doing their sound check!
Came here for a concert / event (+21) and I definitely enjoyed myself. Youll immediately notice that the layout of the whole place is quite unique with all the different levels. Theres a bar to the right side of the concert area which was convenient to grab another drink mid set. The concert size is definitely in between medium and intimate with a low hanging ceiling (kind of squishes the band since theyre on a tall stage) but that doesnt mean they dont know how to fill a room with some great beats (and towers of speakers). Give it a shot.
Love this place. Hope it never changes and it hasnt seemed to in the past 10-20 years. Thank the music gods! Great spot for a show or to grab some grub or a drink in the restaurant.
Middle-east downstairs is my favorite venue for shows in Boston hands down and on my top 5 for favorite venues that Ive been to across the country (up there with Metro in Chicago, and bottom of the hill in San Francisco). Great space and good audio. Reasonable prices and top-notch location. Worth a visit.
Doesnt look like much on the outside, but the food is worth it. Some of the best grape leaves Ive ever had. If you are there are 9, it turns into a comedy club or band stage. Wasnt expecting it, but it was great to see some local stand-up routines and share a few laughs.
GREAT place to see bands bring the house down! Came here to see Alien Weaponry in the Upstairs stage. Not as big a venue as the Downstairs, but still big enough to get a mosh pit going. Its a bit confusing for a first-timer to find where you have to go to get your ticket, but just ask and someone will help you. Also, plan ahead to find parking. It eases up a bit after 6 pm, but you still might have to walk a few blocks.
Went to see a Pete Rock vs. DJ Premier concert in the downstairs of the Middle East. This was one of the best concerts I have ever been to. More because of the people playing than the actual venue, but the venue was great as well. There isnt a ton of room in the downstairs, but this allows you to get real close to the artists. The sound of the concert still has my ears ringing a couple days after. Definitely would recommend seeing a concert there.
Cant say enough good things about the building itself and the staff behind the bar, but listening to the sound guy and door people being absolutely rude as hell to the touring band before hand was a real bummer. Also they have a 16 yo intern that is super sketchy
I was one the performers for San E and Mad Clowns North America Tour. They performed at Middle East on Saturday evening. The club was OK. When I first entered, the smells of sanitizer and alcohol were very strong and they made me a little dizzy. The stage was pretty small too, but I guess dance floor was big enough for such a small club. The condition was not good or bad. Its just a little old. Overall, the performance was amazing. I had a lot of fun.
Ive seen so many bands here on the various stages, but have never eaten at the actual restaurant. I love that they host so many styles of music and that the varied venue sizes allow for established acts as well as brand new ones. There just arent many places like this anymore. I hope it never closes!
Played a matinee show today. The sound in the venue was excellent! Lionel, who books the rooms, was so great to work with. Food was great too! Cant wait to get back.
Authentic Middle Eastern cuisine. Great food good prices. Definite hipster flavor in the heart of Cambridge. Two concert venues featuring lots of new artists and seasoned acts. Dinner specials with show tickets.
You can almost never go wrong at the vast array of areas within Middle East. From their food, to decor to entertainment and location its a win-win. While i have never actually eaten here i have been to many shows, evenings to dance and meeting friends for drinks. I love this place, a real Cambridge staple
Went to the night club for February MOBD. Good venue: two large bars on either side of the main gathering floor, dance floor down in front of the stage was less than half the size of the gathering area but level and up close and personal. Drinks are fairly priced. Coat checking was a bit tight for several hundred. Definitely would go the the venue again. Be warned: Central Squre parking is atrocious.
Went downstairs for a concert, staff was friendly, concert was great. Venue was small but plenty enough room for everyone
Friendly, helpful, competent staff.Excellent Middle eastern food.Tons of live shows to choose from at their 3 stages.Chill bar for when you just want to brew and stew. Its a Central Square staple.
I attended a concert at the SONIA last night and the venue is cool. It is small so it leads for a very intimate setting, which is preferably my fave. The bar staff was really nice and took care of their patrons in a timely manner dispite the many people who were waiting for drinks. There is no seating so it’s staning room only, so be sure to wear a comfy sneaker. Lastly the batheroom was clean through out the night and as a woman I greatly appreciate that, lol.
Nice pub/restaurant. They have good bands playing some nights and the ambiance is really enjoyable. The hot chocolate is super tasty and they have a good selection of beers. The humus is delicious.
It was a nice place to go out. Have not had any drink nor food, but there was a good dj and great fun! Staff is very friendly too
I accidentally walked into a live music show and spent the next 3 hours drinking, dancing badly, and arguing about Star Wars with my friend and the waiter. 10/10 new years, would highly recommend for the casual atmosphere and the occasional live music especially.
Great venue. If youre attending a show upstairs, get there early to get a good spot. If youre attending a show downstairs, it doesnt really matter what time you get there, the space is so large and theres usually a lot of movement.Hey owners! Add some security to the downstairs venue. The crowdsurfing and stage jumping is getting excessive. Last thing you want is some BU kids parents suing you for misconduct.
This is for the basement live music part of the place. Sound was excellent. Kind of limited frills but good for a show. Bars and some seating is available. Felt a little claustrophobic WRT to emergency exit options. Good place for music, I would go back.
This feels like a fire hazard incarnate, and the sound quality is pretty awful. Its difficult to move around within the venue, and the bathrooms are somewhat of an abomination. One had a door the didnt shut. The one next to it didnt even have a door. Ill be back, since I dont have much of a choice, but I will definitely skip some shows that I normally would see.
As a restaurant you will get a decent meal of standard Mediterranean fare. There are three venues for music, downstairs, ground floor, and upstairs. Upstairs has a charm and a small warm space that suits smaller shows. Downstairs tends to host larger acts and the sound of the room is loud. Great for rocking out but less desirable that other Bos/Cam venues. The ground floor hosts music and sometimes comedy. Hit or miss but good for local acts developing their craft.
The downstairs section is the last place on the planet you want to see a rap concert. Incredibly rude staff and power-hungry security personnel do their best to ruin your night. Cant say anything about the middle or upstairs, but I would advise to stay away from this place if you dont want to risk getting harassed or physically harmed while trying to enjoy music.
I liked it the Chicken Kebab could have been more flavorful but I have had worse so I would definitely reccomend it. Ate the lunch plate with salad and beans ( they were floured and nicely cooked ). Would recommend it.
Went to see Hub City Stompers, who were AMAZING! A really nice place, which I didnt know had so much music history attached to it.Not much mask wearing, but I kept mine on, and was fine afterwards.
My favorite venue in all of Boston. Some of my favorite acts come to this venue and I am always wicked excited cause it is a great sized place. Big enough to fit a ton of people but small enough that you get to meet or interact with the artists.
The Middle East is an institution. Versatile venue offering three performance spaces, restaurant table service, and a bar. The music is quite varied, and draws different crowds depending on the act. Although this place is known for its music and as a place to hang out and drink, it actually has pretty decent food.
The band was good but there was only one bathroom for men and women. I had to go to the bathroom really badly. A woman was before me in line. She grabbed her boyfriend and they went in together. They were in for a while clearly having sex in the bathroom. I was so grossed out and disgusted that i didnt want to go in there. How rude. I had to go so badly and this floozie obviously had 0 respect. That turned me off a lot.
I really didnt like this venue. The website said they had a box office for will call. I wondered why I was paying a $4.12 convenience fee but figured they must be nice tickets with a hologram. I got there, and it was just a guy who looked up my last name on his cell phone as everyone else was paying in cash. I didnt even get a ticket. I felt cheated. The venue was also pretty small. Upstairs, the band by the door was deafening. Downstairs, there was a sad guy at a desk waiting for someone to buy a shirt and a coat check, for which I had to pay. (Then why did I pay for my ticket? Oh, wait, I didnt even get a ticket.)The vending machine in the restroom didnt even work and ate my money. I talked to the guy at coat check who thankfully at least refunded my money I fed into it.I understand this is Boston, with the laws being a lot more strict around public. Even so, in Chicago, the clubs for the same type of event have no cover charge, free coat check and larger venues. I was really disappointed.
I was there with @QwillMusic for his performance. The staff was friendly and accomodating... There were 2 shows that night and when we arrived the first show was still in effect. We were greeted and given spacial awareness about the flow of performances. Where to setup our gear, and space for our merch table. #bring your own table... It was a great time. Very well coordinated and safe. Nothing shady just good ppl.
Went to see a low grade rap show because I was invited by a friend of one of the performers. Person working the door wasnt competent at their job and was making it everybodys problem. Decent sound and drinks werent bad
Amazing live music venue in Cambridge- check it out if you’re in town.
We went in at 11.30am for brunch. We were the first customers of n the restaurant so it was not crowded. We got the food we ordered within 20 min but the service was poor. No napkins, nobody coming to check in with you. Servers were sitting in a corner and just chatting. I ordered a drink with them food. I was done with my brunch, ordered the cheque took out the card and was then informed that the drink I ordered couldnt be made since they were out of mint!
Loved my kebab, and the sides of rice and beans were delicious. Best baklava Ive ever had for only $4 for 3 huge pieces. Lunch for two was $20, cheaper than Chipotle down the street. I was pleasantly surprised!
Rudest staff I’ve ever encountered
A classic lunch spot for me. I come for the vegetarian options. Seating is comfortable. Food is flavorful, and theres often an enjoyable live music performance while you eat.
This place gives the Middle East a bad name.
Decent food, diverse menu, many different shows. Hamburgers are average at best, good fries. Good shows from local and more well known artists. Good place to go for a night on the town.
We happen to see this place as we were driving by. Someone in the packed minivan shouted, Pull over!Ordered enough food for 10 people. The best dishes were: lamb and rice pilaf (tender and delicious), the kafta (tender an tasty), lamb kebab (grilled to perfection). The rice pilaf was wonderfully flavored, and the grape leaves were just good. The consensus in our group of 8 was that the hummus needed more garlic and lemon juice. The chicken wrap was kind of dry and the veggies in the wrap were cut so large that the pita was lumpy and difficult to keep rolled. We had the privilege of interacting w the owner who was extremely gracious. Had we eaten on the premises (we took it all to go), he likely would have helped address some of our quibbles.Overall, a lovely experience that we would likely repeat.
Went here for the first time for a concert. Was really having such a wonderful time. It was WAY too hot downstairs.. I wanted to go get some fresh air and then my husband noticed a sign that said no-rentry if you are under 21... ended up having to leave because I was too hot and needed to get fresh air. And then could not get back in. I get the point of the rule, but they have to realize how wrong that rule is. I was also going to see one of my favorite DJs there in a week and I dont think I could stand being in there for more than 30 minutes. They should at least give you a warning at the door. Very unhappy. Waste of my money and time.
This is such a cool spot! The food is amazing the people are nice and the music is always on point, especially when Different StrokeZ and Asn The Music Man preform on Saturdays! I love the old school 90s live music!
Dude working the sound upstairs needs to chill. Buddy has a horrible temper. He screamed at the top of his lungs at me and a friend for leaving through the wrong door😂. Then threatened to show me his “real reaction”, after I said “that is quite a reaction for such a small thing”. Pretty clear they don’t like people under 21. Don’t recommend to anybody
Went to get tickets at the box office, and will continue to in person since Clay is so awesome! He is personable and overall a great dude. I personally recommend the Emo/Pop Punk karaoke nights!
Just go out to the bar for a couple of drinks see if I meet a nice tenderoni lol new to the Cambridge area it is very convenient
This is one of the best underground concert and club venues in Cambridge. I had so many memories and the atmosphere is one of the best.
Had the lamb kabobs once and they were pretty good. But you mostly come here for the Middle East Downstairs though. One of the best venues in the whole Boston/Cambridge area. All other venues should strive to be more like the Downstairs.
Ive had countless meals at the Middle East and ZuZu; every single one was delicious. Also, you always feel great for hours after eating here--maybe a combination of excellent ingredients, plus the uniquely positive vibe that radiates throughout the place. When I want to celebrate, or get myself out of a bad mood, or just get fine food for a bargain, this is where I go.
Cool underground music venue in Cambridge. Ive seen a few DJs perform here, and it always attracts a good crowd. Not your typical Nightclub, the Middle East has different floor levels which each have different atmospheres. In my experience, the bars do not get too crowded and management knows what theyre doing without being overbearing. I look forward to each show here.
The sound system is ok, but the lighting there is awful whoever placed the LED light bar behind the stage blinds everyone else. If you go on the raised left side you can get a better view. Saw earth gang
I have come to a few concerts here. Its a great venue super accessible. I am always happy when I see that a band I like is playing here. Good cheap drinks. I should try the food next time.
Food is terrible. Cafe Andela offers the same menu at a much higher quality and a lower price. The staff at the Middle East are friendly and dancing at Zuzus is cool. The sound system in the basement is terrible and kind of ruined a show we went to see.
The Middle East is a fabulous spot for good food, music, dancing, and a friendly and diverse crowd. Funky resident bands, The Van Burens and Terrafunk get everyone on the dance floor! The bartenders and staff are friendly and youll always see familiar faces. Good vibes all around.
The food is amazing, the live music venue has incredible good sound. This place is authentic in every way, and its nice to have something so genuine and vital in the midst of the gentrification.
I think I had one of my worst roll ups of my life. The meat was super dry and not eatable. I dont eat ketchup usually and I was putting ketchup all over the roll up. Avoid it.I give 2 stars because of the waiter who was really kind and was making an effort even if I told him about the problem and I suggest, next time, you should try at least to offer something to your customers for having ruined their dinner.
Came here for a quick bite and was happy to be seated outside on a nice day. The menu has a decent selection of vegetarian Mediterranean food with a smaller plates and wraps/rollups ect. The prices are super cheap so you get your moneys worth and they give you some pita for the table to start. I ordered the falafel wrap which tasted great and had a good mix of tahini. Overall a great place for cheap food.
Overall great venue upstairs and down. Awesome variety of National acts. Have yet to try the food but the draft selection, while weak, has always proved to be beyond affordable.
I really like the vibe inside. Its dark but not too dark, romantic dark. The food is really good and the service is great! The waitstaff is very attentive and you never have to wave anyone down because they come to you just enough but not to the point where theyre bothering you.
If you’re thinking of going to an EDM show here DONT GO. Hold off for a better venue the sound is awful and distorted super satanic and not in a fun way. no smoking area if you leave to smoke you cannot go back in This was the awfulest venue I’ve ever been to and I go to shows almost every weekend. Could be a really cool place if they weren’t overstaffed with midget chode men
Easy parking in the area which is huge! Decent food and even better event area. Small stage and perfect for more private shows. If you wanna see an artist there youre very close and personal there .
Me and my friends got shrimp cocktail and the pu pu platter. Wasnt long service and the food was EXCEPTIONAL. Very authentic (mainly the Pu pu platter, the cocktail sauce was V good). Price was good for the area. Would definitely go back.
My experience was at the basement of the establishment, I saw Albert Hammond Jr play there. It was a small venue that will quickly become crowded. There is a bar of course and free water. I only wished it was a little bigger since some people got a bit too drunk and shoved the whole front row in a domino effect.
Friendly staff (Amanda, our waitress was awesome!!), cute venue, good food. Ive food restrictions and they were very understanding and accommodating. It was a wonderful evening out.
Great little club. This was my second time visiting for a concert. Its got a very intimate feel to it. Its easy to find, plenty of parking nearby. Its clean, overall a great stop.
Theres so much going on here! See music upstairs, downstairs, on the corner, at ZuZu...eat in most of those spaces as well...this is the ultimate food and music nighttime destination. My go-to entree is the yabrak, stuffed grape leaves. Delicious. Service at the restaurants is friendly but can be slow, so make sure to leave plenty of time if you want to get to the music on time. Playing at the Middle East Downstairs has been one of my favorite local experiences with my band. What a fun venue.
We always visit a place based on the Google star rating. But I am sorry to say this place may be a crowd puller for its mere location and excellent staff. The food here totally no star ratings. I honestly do not like to give low ratings but just to let people know , their middle eastern food is an excuse to middle eastern cuisine. The hummus was served with carrots and celery, ideally its served with olive oil and olives. The pita bread was from a packet not freshly baked or even warmed up.The Medditernian Cous cous was so outrageous I sent it back by the look of it, which they were kind enough to give me a refund for.Their kebabs we ok ..not that great but they were served with leftover hard rice and some sort of black beans , honestly we havent seen any middle eastern food served this way.We were wanting to leave this place in an instant after seeing the kind of food that was served.
Very diverse crowd. Plenty of different nights/events ranging from local to on the rise artists. Great shows and great crowds. Ive seen artists like Azealia Banks and Cupcakke who are both trending in alternative hip hop scene
Im only speaking in terms of their show venue.Live space is ....too run downAnd their ticket regulations are absolutely crazy and unreasonable.I will never go to this place even my favorite band is coming, Ill go to another city instead. Their ticket regulations NEED TO CHANGE.How is this place still getting a 3.8 when so many people are actually coming for shows?
Great place with great music if you get the right night. Lily is a server there and Is by far and away the most diligent, friendly, accommodating and all around lovely server Ive come across in this city.
Was there for a Halloween event , first time ever there. It was pouring out, the area sucked, trying to find parking in area that hardly has any sucked, then we get in n we was not impressed what so ever. 🤨😩 Had one beer then left. Will never go again.
If I could rate this dump 0 stars, I would. I have been to this venue/restaraunt twice now and can safely say it’s garbage. When you first walk in you get hit with a stench so foul you might pass out just from holding your breath, and if that doesn’t phase you maybe the HEAT will. I’m talking so much heat that I witnessed a dude struggle to keep his set dry from the dripping A.C. vents, performers having to sweat much harder than they normally would, not to mention often times rude staff. But now they wish to ban REAL and major artists from performing here? Embarrassing
Middle East is now and always has been the most reliable food, drink, and entertainment venue. In my fifteen years of being able to legally enjoy bars, this place is responsible for some of the best nights in can remember.
The food here is delicious! Sometimes they have live bands, theyre always holding different kinds of events. One of my favorite places!
Absolutely fantastic food, lamb was cooked perfectly, amazing done rice, beans and tomato sauce. Great place to see a show too, wonderful atmosphere and always a good crowd
If you havent been to Middle East, you havent been to Cambridge. This place is a must, either for lunch with friends or for a good time at night. Great music, live shows, good beer and amazing crowd.
Met the chef outside who makes all the delicious middle eastern dishes they serve. Seemed like a nice guy. Of course, he wanted a cigarette, and I was happy to oblige him. What was his name?
Good food and good music! Drinks downstairs are reasonably priced for cans/on tap things, and the food in the restaurant is really good and can be discounted if you show a ticket for a show that night.
Went to the nightclub. As a 19 year old I cannot drink so maybe that took a vital piece away but I found the place kinda yucky. The crowd was small and unwilling to dance. Then when I tried to step out for a minute to make a phone call they told me I couldnt come back in because I was under 21. Understandable, yet still unreasonable.
Ive only been for the food, twice, and havent been very impressed with it. The portion sizes are pretty decent though, and I liked that they were serving beer from Taybeh beer.
Looks like a dive bar but serves middle eastern food. It used to be a great place for cheap eats but they recently changed their prices. They have decent food and options. You can find better options close by.
The Middle East has always been great for punk shows.
Theres so much going on here that here has to be something youre into at some point. Find something to see at one of the venues and grab a great nite to eat. Food is inexpensive and you get a discount when you are seeing a show. I recommend the hummus, mjudra, chicken wrap, and baklava. Indulge in the heart of Cambridge and give this place your money.
Great venue! We had a Halloween rave and it was perfect for our little atmosphere
Cute place. The prices are a touch high for a midrange bar, but the selection is great, and there are lots of vegan options. Dont try to go late on a weekend if you are expecting food.
