The Hangar 9

The biggest problem I had was the bands sound guy. He thought having the sound level over 109 decibels was cool. The space is not that big. The band was amazing and didnt need to sound so loud that you just couldnt hear anything.Other than that the bar seemed very nice and had 2 levels. Didnt get the opportunity to sample the food not sure if they had any. Expansive bar and great bar tenders very attentive. The door guy was a bit of an idiot you dont need to card my 70+ year old mother.

This place serves the best long islands. And for only 7 dollars. Bar tenders are so nice and really know their drinks

Used to hang at the old Hanger in the 90s First time back and really Love the new Hanger. Clean and open. Great stage for music

My only beef is theres no dance floor.

Neat bar, with friendly service and pretty cool events. The drinks are pretty reasonably priced and I’ve enjoyed my experience both day drinking and attending events here.

Here for business and had an amazing meal. Our server Allegra took such great care of us. Thanks for a great meal and terrific service.

There’s this man that used to work there up until Oct of 2022. Tall, dark skin, muscular, kind smile. He was good people. His presence made me feel comfortable.

Worst karaoke operations I have ever seen. There was just a sign up sheet and no rotation structure. They put people on stage based on where they signed up on the list. This meant we saw the same 5 people 4 and 5 times and never got to our groups names. I have done karaoke all over the country and never experienced a line up like this. I am sure it was fun for the one table of friends but not the rest of us.

Awesome bar! Great music, great people, and excellent staff. The live bands are always a good time and the mostly liberal/hippie crowd that frequents are my kind of people. Prices can be a bit steep sometimes (i.e., cover), but thats expected in a college town. Definitely the place to be in my opinion!

I love the Hanger. They usually have a nice crowd and great acts. The bar tenders are friendly. I love their patio. This is definitely a place to hit while you are in town. If you havent been since they built the new building, dont expect the same experience; Carbondale is not the same place it was 15-25 years ago and the new Hanger is no exception. Nostalgia aside, this is a great haunt.

They have a great selection of beer, pool tables, and a venue for bands. They have some great live music here, too. The service has always been really good. The clientele is consistently odd. This is fine in moderation, but its almost like the folks who patronize this place go well out of their way to not conform. Again, Im fine with non-conformity, but there is a tipping point at which your strenuous efforts not to conform take more energy than just allowing yourself to be normal. To each his own, but to me, the crowd here is exhausting. Okay, we get it - You dont fit in and youre proud of it. No one cares. Or at least, I dont.

This place has a really nice atmosphere in the early evening. There was a small amount of people there. Plenty of bar space. Music was mostly alternative rock from the 90s. They had sports on the TVs. There is one pool table. The bartender was very nice and the drinks were good. Quite a bit of craft beer is served here so its a good place to go and try a few new beers with some friends. I was here on a Tuesday around 7pm. I cannot comment on what a typical weekend is like here.

Loved the staff & the ambiance.... Experience was very good. Nice crowds & draws in a lot of people on trivia night & nights they have comedians and local djs. Much more mature crowds. Drinks are a little expensive though.

Went for Latin Night (once a month) with my wife. The DJ is great and the prices reasonable.

This is an excellent facility. Great place to see bands. Nice, spacious stage, nice dance area, places to sit down. They bring in great bands from around the region, St. Louis and Chicago, and they feature bands that do original material. Ive been coming here for 28 years, and I will keep coming back.

Its come a long way from the pole barn where I celebrated my 21st birthday. It still has the best music in town though. Good drink specials and friendly bat staff. This place is a staple whenever Im back in town.

Great place to dance the night away. Noticed the new amped up sound system upon entry last night. PA is clearer and subs have more Punch. Best listening post is still on the patio, stage left.

The first bar I ever visited since moving to Southern IL, this place has it all - regular events, a welcoming family feeling, clean and safe atmosphere. Cheap drinks when they dont have Karaoke on Tuesdays. Awesome!

It was okay. I liked the decorations and that there were a lot of places to sit down. They had a dance floor but only really obnoxious music playing so it wasnt any fun to try to dance. There was an upper floor that appeared open that I did not go up in. Went out on Halloween weekend and stay for about an hour. I was not charged a cover charge but some people I went with were. I did not order any drinks while I was there. Review lost a star for truly horrendous music and for charging some people to walk in.

We went here for my friends 21st birthday and it was supposed to be a bar crawl but it was so fun here that we just stayed for the rest of the night. The music was really good. And our waitress (Paige) was very nice and brought our drinks in a timely manner.

Excellent crowd of welcoming customers and friendly staff. Runs the span of cheap drink specials to excellent craft beer. Chill vibes in the early evening to jamming shows at night. Perfect covered balcony.

The ambiance of Hangar is great; very laid back and chill. I especially enjoyed, last spring, the Pink Floyd Tribute Band and a couple weeks ago when Wedding Banned performed. Definitely the first bar I will be going to once they reopen.

This place is amazing. Cute little bar with a patio, second floor, and a stage..so far theyve had cool djs playing house, dubstep, edm music which keeps the vibe up and going. Definitely recommend going! The staff is really nice as well.

The old hanger was cool but it burned down. This place is neat inside, though kind of sterile, but outside it looks like a prison. They cant be blamed for the rest of the problems the town has which seem to be a lack of enrollment and the fact that kids seem to be lame now and never leave their apartment or dorm. I was there for an event last weekend and I kept having to remind myself that school was in session because the whole town was dead. Like a ghost town. Sad.

This place is so nice. The parking is a little hectic, but the inside is a great place for entertaining. The drinks are really good, everyone that works here are very nice, and I think that offering showings of RuPauls Drag Race is a really nice sentiment of outreach in a somewhat more rural community. I will definetely come again once COVID is less threatening, until then Ill be an earlybird👍🏻

Not progressive nor moving forward to fit the evolution of humans. They only a certain crowd. I felt out of place and wont go back I hardly go out but Im single female. Its ashame that there is nothing in Midwest for any progressive adult. Im trying to bad mouth this business. Just perhaps giving constructive advice here. Life doesnt end at 22, 22, 23. People stuck on age ....come on...sone 30 40 50 60 year old that ate more fit and rational like to enjoy music too. Sone of your favorite musicians are way older....come on. You cant listen to our music then treat us like crsp. Do better!!!!

Wonder venue with a great sound system. Pleasant atmosphere and ambience. Very pleasant and comfortable. Friendly staff and a wide selection of drinks. Convenient location. Awesome wood art on the ceiling. Ye buddy.

Went here earlier this year in May to drop off my homebrew for a competition. We came back that night because the place looked interesting because of the decorations and they had a very wide selection of beers on tap. Thats the only good part... when we returned at around 7 or 8 the place was packed, the band was incredibly too loud(mainly because the buildings acoustics are wrong for loud rock music, way too small of area). There were also bowls of condoms out everywhere! Havent seen that in a bar since I was underage trying to sneak into places, but that just shows its obviously geared more towards the young crowd. The last straw was the bathrooms, they were disgusting and the wall was covered in the most ridiculous ignorant writings from visitors Ive ever seen. Everywhere I looked it was just obscene cursing all over! It was awful and time to go once we saw that, thank God a disgusting place like that doesnt serve food.

The Hanger is a true staple of Carbondale life. It will not be defeated (once a storm tore the roof off and the owner rebuilt and came back even stronger). There are concerts, karaoke nights, trivia nights, the ubiquitous Illinois slot machines, pool tables. The beer list is extensive (you can get both regular and craft beer here). So many nights the social life of Carbondale has come to mean the Hanger. Long may it thrive.

The band is pretty hit or miss in my limited experience. Trying to get attention at the bar has been a little slow. But the atmosphere is good, and they have trivia night on Wednesdays which is fun

I love this bar. It is clean, and usually has nice entertainment (expect a cover charge on weekends). But what keeps me coming back is the beer selection; there are always a number or seasonal/local beers that change frequently.

This place is sooooo sick! The vibes are great. The staff is friendly and welcoming to both customers and artists. I loved it, super chill place! We’ll be back for sure!

Not a bad place to go, especially on Tuesdays when they have karoake! I love going to the upper level, playing pool, and singing along to the wanna-be Queens. Service is good and alcohol content is usually good.

Of all the bars Ive been to in Carbondale, I like Hangar 9 the most. They feature several theme/event nights throughout the week (hip hop night, karaoke, open mic night, live music, Wednesday Trivia, etc.). They also have a menu of craft beer on draft and in cans that changes weekly and seasonally, with some popular staples. They have a full selection of hard liquor. There are two pool tables, and various board games available. The outdoor seating faces US 51 North, but is not overly loud in the evening.

I only stopped in for one drink and a card game (they have a shelf full of games in the back). Good selection of tap beers, clean, patio, indoor bags game. It seems like a popular hangout for the college crowd.

Gotta agree with Joshua. I’m a longtime local and will always be partial to the ‘old’ Hangar. The remodeled version is nice, but it just doesn’t have the same feel. Still a good place to see a show and their drink selection is hard to beat.

Nice, open space, welcoming atmoshpere, and fun events from time to time. Im personally a fan of Trivia Night, Wednesday nights at 8pm!Mixed drinks can be watery at times, but the overall service is great. Confused on which new drink to try? Hangar is great about giving you samples so you spend money on stuff youll enjoy!Hangar doesnt serve food, however outside food is welcome and there are many options right next door (Changos, Insomnia Cookies, Jimmy Johns, and DQ to name a few). Nachos, or a similar snack, would be a nice addition if Hangar served them in the future.Would highly recommend!

This is a pretty decent place. Seems like a place with a lot of music venues. The bartenders were very friendly. Can be a little especially as the evening progresses. Overall, not bad.

They have a cool triva night. Reasonably priced beer during the week. Kind of punk rock feel to the bathroom. But the rest if the building is clean and nice. No Food... #triva

Went to Hangar 9 for a benefit for Big Larry. Venue was great. Love the garage doors to the patio. The music was awesome and the people were great. Definitely would return.

I always have a good time when I come here. Whether for the events or the games they offer for entertainment. You cant lose coming here. Plus the music is always good.

The DJ was going crazy. If you like EDM slide there. Music changes but tonight was pretty dope.

Cozy vibe. Multiple visits, and no moshing. Drinks are limited as far as cocktails go (tho I go virgin). Good music sets from local and far.

Hangar is a great place. Great for music as well. The crew there is super solid and all good friends. Highly recommended.

If you aren’t local you won’t get on stage. Locals will sing 4 times (terribly) before you will hear your name

The aviation back story of this place is interesting to hear and explains the name. They have great drink specials and karaoke night, along with live music.

I wasnt super impressed. It wasnt very crowded but the service was terrible. The music was way too loud. Also, dont use the restrooms if youre a germophobe.

Nice bar. A lot different than it was when I came to Siuc in the late 70s and 80s. Love the upstairs lofts and the clean look.

I had a couple of drinks there one night, but accidentally left my jacket in there when I had left. I called back the next day to see if my jacket was still there and they decided to donate my grandpas jacket to Goodwill the following day...
