Good way to experience American provincial pub-restaurant, the food is just average. Staff members are very friendly like most people in this town, but dont come to check on you very often. The cocktails, however, are dreadful. Now we know why the waiter suggested beer.I suppose I would recommend it for just a drink for the experience.
Place was good. Lobstah roll was good. I should have gotten the salad though. O rings were good. Kids got chicken tenders no complains. Wife got rib tips. Tasted like charcoal cooked. Cook medium as asked. My highlight was the Castillo. I had to share with my son whos 9. Its lobster bisque mixed with new England clam chowder. Absolutely the best idea ever. Id go back again.
The Squire is a beloved staple in Chatham, offering a refreshing escape from the more upscale spots in town. With its great music and cold drinks, its the perfect place to unwind. A visit to Chatham isnt complete without a stop at the Squire. We always indulge in their delicious oysters, and the clam chowder is outstanding. Its a welcoming spot that captures the heart of Chatham and keeps us coming back every time.
My “chicken tacos” was meh. Not sure but the Chicken tasted like canned chicken or Tyson frozen chicken- it has that taste that you just know. It was edible, didn’t wow. Son’s fish taco was alright. Good batter. I’ve eaten here off season and it was delish back then. Could be the summer crowd. Fast service, waiter was good. It was just Nostalgia to eat here. Maybe other food options were a better choice than Tacos. 🌮
A Chatham icon since 1968, the Chatham Squire is a must-visit when you find yourself on the elbow of Cape Cod! This place is charming, not 1 square inch of the walls and ceiling are not decorated with some sort of sign, patch, sticker etc. and you know that everyone who walked through this door has a memorable story of their time there. Whether you visit for a drink, their New England fare, live music or just to experience the local culture, you can’t miss the Squire!& what better beer to order than one brewed less than 11 miles away by Devils Purse Brewing, the Squire Lager is an American Lager that is crisp, drinkable and refreshing with a tinge of natural sea salt (or maybe that was just in the Cape air)…
Solid restaurant with nice, accommodating servers. Only giving 4 out of 5 stars cause multiple menu items were unavailable and I didnt love my friend shrimp (which I chose instead of fried clam strips cause they were out). Wasnt bad and Id consider going again, but I wouldnt go out of my way for it. Chowder and lobster bisque was good, but other places do it better. Wife liked the steamed clams. The mixed drinks were really good, though. My party ordered extras of the Painkiller and Pink Lemonade mixed drinks. I hear there is live entertainment most nights, so if thats your scene I think youll enjoy it.
Ate here on 6/28. This is a quintessential Cape Cod diner. Old school diner with great classic options, including many seafood dishes. Service was great, food came out quickly, and was very good. The chowder and shrimp were the standouts. Good beer selection.
Emily was one of the best waitress’s we’ve ever had. We had 5 children with us and she was so patient. She checked in often and made sure we were well taken care of. The food was great! We’ll definitely be back!
What a find! I walked in literally 7 minutes to close (of the kitchen), but was able to get an amazing steak tips appeziter, and really flavorful, plentiful steamers. The steak was perfectly done and the veggies so crispy, and delicious! The steamers had a Ln excellent texture, but they sure had a few grains of sand them too.Big thanks to Nina for making me true, authentic Old Fashioned that lifted my spirits.
We sat at the bar to avoid a wait for a table. Bartender was friendly and attentive. We ordered the pork tacos, the Big Mic burger and the calamari. Everything was yummy! The vibe was fun and staff seemed happy to be there! Definitely would make a return visit!
Went there for food and it was good went there later in evening with a bunch of friends of different ages for drinks ,like around 10 pm and I got in with ID check but when I went to order the head bartender decided without scanning my id that it was a fake (it’s not) and was going to keep it which would have been bad because how am I supposed to get home because it’s a real id and I need to fly back home. I almost wish they called the cops so they could scan it and show them it was real and they were wrong. One guy managed to ruin my night because he decided my id was fake just by looking at it. He didn’t even look at me just my id.
You go to the Squire for the atmosphere and the food. Its always an experience to go there. Food is good. Had the fish and chips. Excellent. Sat in the bar for lunch, where the bartenders are very friendly and attentive. Only con is the bar seats are so uncomfortable. But, overall I still like the Squire and its vibe.
I LOVE this place! The food is surprisingly great and the atmosphere is so happy, easy and fun. Great staff and fab fun striking up conversations with other patrons. Excellent Caesar salad (not as easy to get right as you might think), fish & chips (not too heavy and good flavor) and well shucked raw oysters & littlenecks. Yummy Cape Cod margaritas!
All 5 of us ordered the steak and only 1 was made correctly. I ordered mine medium and it came out well done, I sent it back and they gave me medium rare. Not satisfied. Overrated.
Best spot around for fresh oysters! Clam chowdah is excellent as well. Always great service, food, and drinks. There most likely will be a decently long wait because it is that popular. Highly recommend this spot!
The 50/50 of lobster bisque and clam chowder was fantastic. The bisque was a little more to my taste and I bought a bowl to go for later. Very good, friendly service and fun atmosphere. Lots of vanity license plates to read in the bar area.
The hostess was very nice and seated us right away for lunch. We sat there for 20 minutes and not one server greeted us at all, took our drink order or anything. So we left. Easy evaluation. You don’t do anything, you get 1 star.
These might be the top 3 mozzarella sticks I’ve ever had in my entire life. Their drinks are great, the staff are friendly. But I’ll dream about these mozzarella sticks from time to time.
My friends and I are from out of state and went here for dinner. As we first got seated the booth we sat at was wet and sticky and I got something stuck on my new pants and the rest of the booth was overall just dirty. We were hungry and decided to stay and just request a new table and the server told us that the table was clean and that we couldn’t move tables. We asked if we could at least get a rag to clean off the table and while the server was gone we watched the manager come out from the back (stating they were the manager) and scream at a table near us without even having a conversation with them first while they were trying to be compliant. Said manager then came over to us later about our table said that we’re being unreasonable and that a group of “people like your kind” will ever be satisfied.Overall HORRIBLE experience and for a setting where consumer service is their profession it was absolutely terrible and I wouldn’t recommend anyone go there unless you want to be berated by the staff.
Great restaurant and tavern. Tried the burgers and Cuban sandwich. Both were delicious. Nice little tavern for a late night cocktail if you’re out and about Chatham. Give them a try.
Tavern side is AWESOME. Good bar food, fun atmosphere, good service. French Dip sandwich is great. Been coming here for years. Will continue coming here for years.
We loved this place the chowder is THE best ever! The tuna sandwich was huge and delicious two waiters and a waitress are siblings and they are adorable! And the KEY LIME PIE!!! OMG! I almost cried it was so good. Oh and the tavern from Summer Catch, so Cool!
Such a fun spot in downtown. Great atmosphere and bartenders. Delicious chowder and lobster roll. 10/10
Worst service we’ve had in a long time. Bread plates were literally thrown on our table. Lobster bisque had no lobster, drinks weren’t mixed. Ciopino was good. We wouldn’t come back.
Really fun spot for classic Cape Cod seafood, beach cocktails, and beer. Fried scallops were awesome.
The food was really good. Great atmosphere. Our poor server was absolutely terrible. Hopefully she was just having an off night.
I dont ever leave negative reviews but I had the worst hamburger Ive ever had in my life. I ordered medium rare and it came out medium-well. I sent it back and the next one was closer to medium rare but completely flavorless. Not sure whats happening there but...how do you make a bad hamburger?? Ill go back for a beer but there are better venues for food.Food has definitely declined with new ownership. :( (I also had a grilled chicken sandwich earlier in the week that had a good-sized bone in the filet.)Love the music scene though! The Boston Naturals and The Grab Brothers are awesome!
There are bars that have a good atmosphere. There are bars that have good food. The Chatham Squire has great food with a great atmosphere. The menu selection is incredible.
I opened a tab at the bar with out them checking my ID. Spent 100 dollars on drinks, then they kicked me out for not having my ID. Chicks were bad. Service was worse.
Squire is a mainstay for me and my family. Friendly staff and yummy food. Trivia the other night was fun! Live music brings out a crowd and dancing. Both sides (restaurant/bar) are a must while visiting.
This a must see in the cape. The walls are littered with license plates from all over the world. It has a very local town feel combined with young tourist energy. They have live music, and yummy drinking. It is very crowded because it is a super popular place, but it is worth going to see. The bathrooms were a bit sad for my taste, so 4 stars.
It’s an institution. Get the lobster bisque - best in cape. Don’t take reservations and won’t seat you until everyone is there so just be smarter than the average tourist.
I couldnt wait to get some clam chowder once I arrived. Looked up what people were saying who had the best in my area and was pointed to this place.Rustic looking bar inside with tons of licence plates decorating the walls. Staff was friendly and food came out hot and quickly.Clam chowder was thick and full of clams and potatoes. Ordered the bowl size, good large portion but was expensive. The cod in the fish and chips was perfectly cooked and yum. The breading wasnt thick or oily, which made me happy. Fries were meh.I havent been back to the Cape for a long time, but the chowder with the fish and chips came out to $29. I felt that was really expensive for what I got.Im sure I can find a place with just as good food for cheaper, so wont go back.
I wish I could give 5 stars, however this restaurant like so many others have ruined a local favorite by making it exclusively gluten free.I applaud any restaurant that chooses to include gluten free options. However if I am paying $45 for fried seafood I expect real breading not some alternative for which the staff can not even tell me the ingredients list.It tasted like grease and black pepper, and the texture was soggy and gritty. The fries and cole slaw were wonderful though so they have that going for them.Everyone else at my tables food was good just not mine which accouted for half the bill.
Honestly dont come here for the food its very bland and nearly everything frozen. Its really more of a bar scene. Its been around forever. All types come here gets a bit wild at night. Just dont expect a good meal.
Off season but a solid lunch. Lobster bisque was just right and the fish and chips had a light coating and perfectly cooked fries. Overall a great choice.
The Squire was apparently the place to be in Chatham over Memorial Day weekend. Earlier in the afternoon there was standing room only, but we were served immediately. At no point did we ever feel rushed or overwhelmed by the traffic. The raw oysters were delicious and a must try!We came back later in the evening to hear DJ Flynn Rink. There was a line to get in that stretched down the street, and the music was deafening. Quite a change from our relatively peaceful afternoon watching the Celtics there. Not a single person in the pub (now club) was over the age of 25 except for maybe 2 or 3 of us.If you’re looking for a fun thing to do this summer, whether it’s listening to live music, finding a bite to eat, or a beer to drink, this is the place!
I was here with my friends to enjoy some drinks on Saturday 6/8 and the boy working at the door insisted my friend’s ID was a fake (it is not). This experience was incredibly uncomfortable, unpleasant, and frankly embarrassing.
Love it! A must to visit on the Cape! Excellent Pub! Will come back for Trivia, Pool, and Live Music 🎶.Enjoyed my first Quahog with a delicious Guinness! ☘️
Terribly rude staff. My friends and I came to the area and tried to get drinks with dinner. They bent my REAL id and my friends to the point where we have to get new ones. The manager was unbelievably rude and unprofessional. Extremely bad experience.
Very attentive bartender. Typical bar food. Cool atmosphere and a fun place to hang out.
Didnt eat and didnt see anyone eating. Live band night and the place is designed for a fun night out with a bunch of friends. Highly recommend.
Cute place snooty customers (cape cod). Oysters were fresh! Calamari was tender!
I dig this spot. The atmosphere is easy-casual-cool-kinda random. Check out the license plate decor. I liked the seat yourself ideal...get in, find a spot, and get on with the grub. This just expedited the process of getting some good eats. Ordered up an order of oysters, shrimp cocktail, spinach/gorgonzola salad, and lobster bisque. Pretty damn good and quick for a Saturday afternoon.
We have been going to the Squire for many years. Last week we had terrible food and they were out of items that our table wanted. We are done there until they improve. So disappointed!
DO NOT GO HERE AT ALL COSTS. The main bartender, Greg, who’s been working there for 40 years is aggressive, condescending, and horribly racist. If management sees this, I am happy to open a case against him if you need grounds for termination from what I’ve witnessed and experienced. He also shouts at the other staff who are mostly young, and lovely :( what an unfortunate establishment for myself, someone well connected and international
I have been coming here for 30 + years. The Squire is an institution but it is clearly not the same spot it was. They panned off an over batch of kids meat tomato sauce as tomato soup to serve with a grilled cheese. Everything was cold, microwaved, frozen multiple times. Very poor quality yet still $100 + for two. New ownership has dropped the ball on icon.
Scallops were the texture of pencil erasers, linguini with clams was watery with a quarter of the clams empty, and took 10+ minutes to see a waiter and had to ask multiple times if they were coming by throughout dinner
Service was great. My daughter liked the Fishwich and fries. Tuna Poke was very good. Drinks were great!
Loved our meals at the Chatham Squire. Our waitress was great about getting answers to our questions due to food allergies. Highly recommend this place.
The food is ok I got the hamburger and it was not bad and while you sit there are 1000s of license plates funny ones or not but I did hate the bathrooms because the door to the stall was up to your knees and to sum it up its not that bad :)
The Chatham Squire has been serving food and drinks to this lovely little town in Cape Cod for 50+ years. The manager Chris is awesome, Tess was very helpful, and the rest of the team provided terrific service. The Squire serves great bar food and of course, great seafood. We always get oysters and they never disappoint. Tuesday nights the Squire has Karaoke from 10PM-12:45AM. Wednesday nights there are live bands. My favorite bar in Chatham. Pop in for great people, great vibes, decent prices considering how expensive Chatham is, and good times!
As a local in the off season I will say one of my WORST LUNCHES EVER!!!! A fish sandwich for $18, that was part of a tail, that was served on an English muffin? 3 Oz at best, thumbs down. Ashley the barmaid was gemrmm
There is a lot of atmosphere but the food is nothing special and it is too busy to be served well
Absolutely terrible service. I just wanted a beer after a long day of work and they bent my ID in half. Im 30 years old and just because Im from Maine they assumed it was fake.
Had a good experience here seeing a band, little hard to get a drink but other than that would highly recommend and they have great burgers
The Squire is truly a one-of-a-kind spot! While the food was quite enjoyable, its really the ambiance that steals the show. They offer a solid array of beer options, perfectly catering to casual hangouts rather than fancier outings.I had a chance to sample their oysters which were delicious, and while the clams were a bit on the chewy side, they didnt disappoint in terms of flavor. So if youre seeking a laid-back spot with a unique vibe and tasty fare, Id definitely recommend giving The Squire a visit - its an experience worth checking out!
We sat at the bar and had the pleasure of experiencing amazing service with bartender Greg. He is life time resident of Chatham and was very helpful with answering questions about the area. We had amazing split pea soup, fish and chips, jambalaya, and ending with delicious chocolate pecan pie. Highly recommend this place to anyone that has the opportunity.
Great casual place. Not fancy, but very comfortable. Food was good. Oysters and steamers to start were awesome. Our dinner was good. Very old school casual restaurant/bar. Service was awesome - servers, bussers, hosts all very professional and friendly. I would definitely go back.
Our bartender was amazing. I wish I knew his name but he was so friendly and funny. He had a bar full and still managed to make sure he kept up with everyone in a timely manor. The vibe of this place is awesome as well. We ordered food to go, the food was ok for bar food. I will go back if ever back in town.
A very kind staff but the vegetarian Burger wasn’t available so I took a Caesar wrap without chicken on the advice of the waitress but there was only salad and croutons in it... Too bad...
This place was awesome. Must get the calamari! So fresh and tasty!
Great place for a drink in Chatham. Super friendly service, reasonable prices, pretty good food. Recommended.
Top notch place at the cape. The mad rush for tables when they open is exciting and fun, but not for everyone.
Buyer beware! The amount charged to my credit card was different from my copy of the physical paper receipt. I called the establishment and spoke to the back-office person, and they said they will research the issue. The issue is that I purchased two drinks totaling $32 and added a tip of $4 totaling $36 and that is what my copy of the paper receipt supported. The amount charged to my credit card was $50. Next, I received a notification from my credit card company that a credit of $14 was processed. Again, I called the back-office person and reiterated that I would like a photo of their paper copy of the receipt. She said, it could not be found and must be lost. How convenient! If this happened once, then it probably has happened many more times. I feel I was scammed, and the server should be held accountable. I asked for a call from the GM and as of, yet my phone has been silent. I hope this hasnt happened to you.
I dined here a few days agi and this has been the worse dining experience I’ve had. I initially ordered the cold cut sandwich, which the chef said they didn’t have. I picked the buffalo chicken sandwich special and I was told I wasn’t able to make it into a wrap or add anything, like lettuce or tomato. I was told it just comes with buffalo chicken and blue cheese. That’s fine however when the food arrived it was missing one of two ingredients. The waitress was very nice and brought the cheese. Not a big deal, except a few bites in I was noticing how chewy it was. I didn’t finish the meal (ate about a quarter) and told the waitress it’s chewy. I was upset that I wasn’t even offered anything else and that the item remained on the bill. That is an item that is clearly a frozen chicken patty with really poor quality meat. Lastly the clam chowder resembled canned soup. I’m not sure what’s happening with the quality but I know I’ll be telling my friends and family not to return.
Want to start this off with Olivia, the blonde young waitress was amazing. She tried her hardest to remedy every situation and was so kind. The hostess at the outdoor section was noticeably on her phone the entire time we were there, even when customers were confused on what to do and if they should approach the hostess (which infers she was unapproachable). She let us know there would be a wait which was expected and in general the staff just looked lost. This is except for Olivia though and then a tall young guy with auburn hair.Cuisine two stars because the oil was not being changed properly as food was extremely greasy and did not taste like a fresh fry. We got both calamari and clam strips (which ended up being whole bellies so we had to send it back but they took it off the bill which was nice). The burger was meh but the chowder and bisque was great. The wings were awesome. We got them well done but they weren’t burnt. Definitely come back for the chowder, bisque, cocktails and wings.Ambiance was nice. Felt remote and out of the hustle and bustle of the shopping part of Chatham. The bathrooms inside though were disgusting and cramped. They need a good clean down. All in all would come back for wings and the 50/50 chowder bisque.
The shellfish dishes were well overpriced $35 for Steamers and $25 for Mussa LS Steamers up to standard m u s s e l s below par would not hurry back
It smells disgusting in this place. Not sure if its supposed to be rustic, but there are wood chips everywhere, I slipped and almost fell. Waitress was extremely rude, alluded to myself and my friends that we should move to the dining room for entertainment as it was for an older crowd. She also gave us wrong information about our order as we split in order according to her description. We were told we had to move out of our seats to make room for last minute changes. Oh, did I say there was a no reservation policy? Dont waste your $$ here.
Fun little bar. We just had drinks.
Went with several friends and we had a wonderful time!! It was pretty busy and we were seated within 5 minutes.Food was great and came out VERY quickly, and it was a busy night! Drinks were great, prices were reasonable and our server was awesome!!! I didn’t get his name but he did a fabulous job; he probably had 5 other tables and was working the back bar like a champ!
Seemed to have a mix of locals and tourists. The Half n half chowder n bisque is amazing.
We ate here because the menu looked very good. However the old fashioned was very watered down and tasted like seltzer. The cucumber spritz drink was all spritz and no alcohol but refreshing. We then ordered oysters and the Brie app. Oysters were good but briney and the Brie was very very disappointing. Wasn’t baked fully through and in a pool of honey. Just not worth the $21 for it! We decided not to have entrees here and left. Definitely not a date night spot. A lot of young kids and the large families seemed to enjoy this place.
Time marches on, but the Chatham Squire remains the same salty destination for good old-fashioned fun and shenanigans. One of the highlights is the late night dancing, where it doesnt matter who you are or how old you are. The crowd is just happy as a bunch of clams dancing the night away together. You can always count on a fun night out at the Squire- and maybe even a pop up limbo contest if youre lucky!
Best clam chowder on Cape Cod!! A really fun and bustling spot for a casual meal on a weekend. You’ll likely wait to get a table but it’s worth it.
Not the same place I remember, Clams and chowder use to be delicious. I guess it changed ownership, figures. Pretty bad
During our vacation in town, my friend and I decided to check out this place after hearing about it. However, our experience at the bar was disappointing. We accidentally got shoved by a man while walking through the bar, and when my friend confronted him, he responded inappropriately, claiming he didnt care and that we were in his way.Despite trying to reason with him, the situation escalated, and he got very close and confrontational, insisting we step outside with him. To our surprise, he identified himself as the general manager named Adam Porter and called four bouncers to escort us out without any chance to resolve the issue or even get our drinks. Throughout the encounter, we didnt receive any apologies for the unwarranted treatment.I feel compelled to share this incident in the hope that someone in a higher position will address such unprofessional behavior. Its disheartening to see a place with a history of mismanagement, starting from the top with Adam Porter, who boasts an extensive tenure according to his LinkedIn profile. Such disrespectful behavior is concerning, and it reflects poorly on the establishments reputation.I sincerely hope that actions will be taken to improve the management and ensure a more respectful and welcoming environment for all patrons. Its important for the reputation of this establishment not to be marred by incidents like this, especially if it caters to underage college kids through alcohol sales.
WILL NOT VISIT AGAIN. Recently visited the Chatham Squire on a Friday afternoon in October. Place was crowded, so we sat at the bar. Received our food, one beverage and that was just about the last we saw of either of the 2 individuals tending bar. That being said, I tipped 15%, not my usual 20%. Imagine my SHOCK when my credit card emails us 3 days later, asking if we left a 52% tip!! Called the restaurant 3 times, was promised that either Shannon or Fatima would return my call, then after a week of no return calls, finally called our credit card company to dispute the charge. IF you have to eat here, pay in CASH to avoid the frustration and aggravation!!
Very crowded even on a Tuesday at 1:00, there was a 25 minute wait for a table
Great chowder the rest is just ok. Used to be much better
First time ever in the area, I must say everything about this place was awesome from the time my wife and I opened the door to walk in till we walked out. It was CHEERS like. We were greeted by the associates behind the bar and was served very quickly by the server. Not sure of the history but This place has a lot to be proud of when it comes to customer Service. 👏🏿👏🏿👏🏿
Food is great. Food appeared on our table in less than five minutes. Staff is engaged and cares. Olivia is an EXCELLENT wait person who hustles during a late-lunch rush and does her utmost to deal with the affluent, entitled jerks who occasionally wander into this establishment to demonstrate their superiority, of whom, I hope, we were not a pair. Super place for a tasty, hearty, human meal.
Once an icon. Great for the sub-30 crowd. The food has gone down hill under new ownership. It is hard to get workers on the cape. We need more legal immigration... Please note this is not a political comment, just an observation.
Bartenders attitude was so rude. When i was there one of the male bartender told me” your friends did not tip me if you are not gonna tip me also you can go another place” How it is possible?! I do not have to tip him if he treats me well i would like to tip him tho. He was so rude at that time i asked him “did you said that right i was not wrong” and he told me “correct i said that” It must be joke because there is no explenation to that attitude. I am not recommending this place. I heard so many bad things about this place but i could not imagine that.
Managers were extremely rude and even bent my license because they thought it was “fake”. dont go here.
Amanda was simply superb! Her sincere attention to our table and her genuine friendliness made us feel welcome and appreciated. Her service outweighed the mediocre caliber of the food.
The food here is bad. The outdoor seating is really nice and the seem to have plenty of staff, so thats nice. The lobster roll was bland and dry. Ive had better lobster rolls in San Francisco..... The house salad was pretty good, but thats a low bar to meet. We found the food to be low quality and thats not even accounting for how over priced everything was. I ate here on my first day at the cape, coming from San Francisco, yet I still managed to find the seafood bad and everything over priced! Youd think itd be the other way around.... Skip this place, there are better restaurants just down the street
I was there with a colleague for lunch, December 28. Very crowded, good for you. The Music system was so loud I couldnt hear, nor could my colleague hear my conversation. Reason, When the bar gets crowded we need to turn the music up Been going there the better part of 45 years, used to work there. Not sure I would go back.
$24 for chicken parm and its not even chicken breast, reconstituted chicken pieces you get for $2 in the supermarket frozen section.Fries were also catering ones, not home made. Service was good.
We were excited to check out the Squire as it is well known as a local staple. At first it was fine and we enjoyed a drink at the bar while we waited for a table on a busy Saturday night. It only took half hour which was fine. I expected more fresh seafood dishes and the one I ordered was just ok…. The worst part was the service or lack thereof. Fair warning: if you are over the age of 22 then steer clear of this place on a Saturday night. At exactly 9:30 the dining room got rushed by mobs of buzzed college kids from the attached tavern. They descended on the dining room in hoards and stalked our table like hungry sharks stalk the seals in nearby Chatham Harbour! The waiter never asked if we wanted anything else before he threw the check on the table at the bewitching hour of 9:30 and bolted. Apparently the band plays in the dining room and we were taking up prime real estate. Who knew?! Would have been nice to have been given a polite head’s up. We were lucky to escape with our lives. Old folks- you’ve been warned 😉
I went here as a kid in the early 80s. Same charm, same warm atmosphere, same come as you are welcomed. Im biased, but this place is approaching holy ground in its existence. This isnt 5 star dining, its just the best heart and soul warming food in the Cape. Lunch or dinner, dont pass it up!
Sat outside and had a decent lunch. They were quite busy as was Chatham in general. Food was fine, maybe a bit overpriced. Service was fine though our waiter kinda disappeared 2/3 through our meal, but fortunately there was plenty of wait staff to grab and help out. If youre looking for a no frills spot itll work.
Fish and chips. they use frozen not fresh fish and I dont recommend. Clam chowder was tasty but would have liked more clam pieces. Service was good but wont come back.
Will not go back waitress was totally horrible got half my order told the server he said Ill check he checked said be right out it never showed up waitress never came back was probably out back getting high the only time she came back was to ask any thing else I said the bill and manager and she even sucked guess what zero tip
We were there for lunch but have been there many times for both lunch and dinner. It is not what it use to be. The new ownership does not have the same passion for the food. The last time I had the warm buttered lobster roll but it was over cooked and rubbery so this time I did the cold mayonnaise. It was OK. They are claw and knuckle meat only. The celery is unnecessary. You can tell they buy the lobster meat already prepared. Many restaurants do that now. The fries were mediocre. Mine were under cooked. The clam chowder was mostly broth but had a nice flavor. You can no longer get Baked Cod at lunch time which was disappointing. Chatham is known for its fresh fish. The people are friendly and the bar can be fun. It is a convenient location but don’t expect high quality food. I struggle to give it 3 stars. If you want a burger, sandwich, or fried seafood for lunch it is probably OK. The dinner menu offers more.
Just okay. Had to season the chowder myself with some salt. Best chowder in the area? Nah. The fried clam basket I got was great and my wife’s pasta was decent. Pretty pricey for what you get. Wouldn’t go back for food. The bar area is pretty cool. Come if you’re looking for a good place for drinks, pass if you’re looking for good local seafood.
Unfortunately I cannot speak to the quality of the food at Chatham Squire. My party came by around 7:30pm looking for a table. We were told that we could make a reservation for 9pm and come back then. We left our phone number and when we came back at 8:45, we were told the kitchen was closed and we would not be served. I understand that restaurants can be busy; I used to work as a line cook. What I do not appreciate is not being transparent to your costumers. Had we been told it was unlikely we would get a table, we would have looked elsewhere. However, we were told we would be seated at 9. I encourage better communication between the staff and kitchen at this establishment. I am saddened to leave this review as I have heard the food itself is distinguished.
Saturday afternoon bartender had both our IDs in his hand showing we are 27 years old, and still felt the need to loudly mock my husband in front of other patrons? Maybe he was trying to be funny, but it left a bad taste in my mouth. Hope he’s having a better day today. 2 stars are because it’s a fun ambience and we were there the night before for a wedding after party & had a good experience!
Do not waste your money here. Food is very bad quality. The servers don’t know the menu or what food items are available / out of stock. There are so many other places to enjoy in the area and I know I will not be returning.
Empty tables and still a wait to sit! I finally found a table on the tavern side (seat yourself) and sat for a while before a bartender finally came out from behind the bar and asked if she could help us because she knew we were sitting for a while. Bartender was nice, but the waitstaff was not very helpful. Asked one of the waitresses to clean our table and she took a few things off and never came back. Food was just ok. Don’t think I would go back next time I am in the area.
We had a wonderful dinner last night. Jimmy was an excellent waiter. I had Seafood Carbonara and my husband had Fried Oysters. Both were delicious! We look forward to returning soon.
Yea its real nice here. Especially since they stay open when a bunch of the lightweight restaurants on the cape close for the season. This place is great.
This restaurant is on Main Street. You Might find parking on this narrow busy street. There’s parking in a lot close by. Joanna was our server and she was so enthusiastic and friendly! The food was delicious and plentiful. I thought the prices were… a little high. The quality of the food was Soo high. They make a Costello soup that’s half LI eater bisque and half clam chowder. My table people All Loved it! My burger was cooked perfectly. And my salad had beautiful colorful grape tomatoes. The Fishwish was Soo fresh and filling. The Espresso Martini and Dark and Stormy were Soo delightful. I will come back when I come down here again.
My family has been frequenting the Squire for over 35 years now. This year, when we were all finished and walking down Main Street, we almost in unison said Its gone downhill. The food is hit or miss and options are limited. The fried calamari was soaked in grease (wet). The wait staff seemed overwhelmed and not focused on any particular task. For example we asked the waiter for an extra table setting when we arrived and it took 20 min to receive it. This type of service occurred in varying degrees over the course of the meal. The costs seemed a bit too costly for the quality. All the raw fish came on plates without ice which is odd. Baked potatoes cost 5$ and they would not sub out fries for a baked potato. The restrooms were a disaster. Urine on the floor half filled drinks on urinals. There was a super loud bar on the other side this was at 5:30pm.In my opinion, If you want a better experience both with quality and service, head to Macs Chatham Fish & Lobster.
Trust me when I say you can do better in Cape Cod for 170 $ plus tip. Overpriced and terrible quality of food. I ordered the rib eye medium rare with fries and my wife ordered the scallops. My steak was well done and came with a baked potato. Also the steak was less than a 1/4 inch thick and hard to chew. The scallops were 6 tiny bay scallops that tasted old and on a soupy bed of risotto and no flavor.
Nice drinks and friendly staff. Go see Ashley!
Squire used to see better days. The menu has changed and has less seafood more meat. The French fries were over cooked. The fried flounder was so fried you couldn’t tell there was fish in it. Place looks dirty too. Been coming here since the early 1980’s. Sad to see it lose its charm.
I like this place. There is nothing fancy to the place but just good basic food. They also have a bar if you prefer. If you are into lobster rolls, they are excellent. Even better, get a salad with a side of lobster. It’s a big portion with large pieces and it’s not more expensive.Oh, and be prepared for a long wait during season.
Downtown near shops. Extensive menu. Historic area.
Sad to see this once iconic restaurant fall so far from its glory days. Place is so dirty and staff seem uninterested in hospitality in all areas. Food has also gone downhill so far from what it was last time i was there. Assuming a management or ownership change.
This place is so unprofessional in every way, they will look at your ID and claim it’s fake without even having a way to scan it. The 20 year old barely legal bouncers will ask you for another form of ID, but won’t accept a credit or debit card, they literally asked me if I had a picture of me graduating from college. If you’re going to be questioning every single out of state ID because you’ve never even left cape cod, you need to have the means to back it up. Just incredibly embarrassing for the employees to be that uneducated
Year over year there’s a significant difference in quality and service. This is not the same restaurant that we have come to in years past. Our wait time for food was over an hour, the food was not great and even the cocktails were different. We were provided plastic silverware and plastic cups. Waitress was kind and came to keep apologizing for extensive wait times. Disappointed that this place has gone down hill.
Seemed like the only place open for lunch during off-season near Chatham Lighthouse Beach. Had lunch at 1pm and it was very busy. I sat at the bar and people were seated pretty close to me. Couldnt eat comfortably. Aside from that, the bartender was attentive and friendly. Took my truffle fries off the check when I was given regular fries instead. Funky, casual ambience.
Awesome for drinks. Terrible service for food. They cannot handle an empty or full bar. Expect to wait 75 plus minutes for a full tables. Couples about 20,regardless 9f when you arrive. Their kitchen staff dont know what they are doing. The food is your average bar food. Drinks are always great. Patrons always rock.
Our last dinner in town and it was outstanding!!
My favorite bar. I have been going to thr Squire since 1972. Food has always been good. Bartenders are exceptional. I have the honor of having 3 license plated hanging in the bar. You have not been to the Cape if you didnt go to the Squire.
Server, Danny and the Manager on duty last night, 4/21/22, went above and beyond to serve us! We drove for 2 days from Michigan for a friends wedding and needed some food once we arrived to the area. Of course we arrived right as the kitchen was closing but they were able to make us a delicious French Dip and Cheese Burger! So great! Thank you for helping us out of towners, it was much appreciated! ❤️12 out of 10!
Entertainment was good. Bar is ok but the food at the restaurant was less than average.
We ate here our first night visiting. I got a cheeseburger and fries, as I dont eat seafood. It was delicious. My husband reluctantly got the lobster roll. He said it was one of the best hed ever had! He liked the truffle fries, too. Quick, friendly service. A bit dark inside, but good food.
Food was kinda mediocre and overpriced. Service was great. Atmopshere was old timey not for me but i can see some appeal, music too loud couldnt hear people at table. Wont go back.
Very disappointing, unfortunately. Waited over an hour for our food and although it wasnt bad, it wasnt worth the wait. We were told food could take upto 2+ hours in the summer and other tables around us expected a 2 hour wait... We would have appreciated if we were told there was going to be a long wait before being seated and ordering - other customers felt the same. Wont be back.
Very disappointed with this bar. Came here for some drinks as part of a wedding party. At around 11pm after buying a round I was told I was too drunk and escorted out very rudely. I had 3 drinks in total in this bar and was the only venue I’ve been to since arriving in Boston and on the cape today. The only reason I can think of is because I am brown as the rest of my wedding party are white skinned and faced no issue. This bar is clearly racist and after you spend your money they may throw you out. Avoid if you can. Terrible experience and definitely won’t be coming back. Please note bar staff are excellent but problem lies with management/ front of house.
A great location for a meal and drinks. Just had my first order of steamers of the season from here and damn were they good! Nice selection of beer and wine. My wife was a little disappointed in her popcorn shrimp, she thought they are a little over breaded and overcooked. Its a nice bar and eclectic with all of those license plates on the walls and rafters. The staff was very friendly
We were in the mood for a more casual setting for dinner and this fit the bill perfectly. Very comfortable ambiance, good service, friendly server. Drinks were inexpensive. The food varied wild wildly. My ham and bean soup of the day was excellent, as was the fish on the fish and chips. Unfortunately, the chips were simply frozen french fries and marginal at best, and the cole slaw that came with it was just okay. The roasted sirloin entree was also marginal, unfortunately, because it sounded good on the menu. The meat was of adequate quality, but the sauce was unusual and a little strange. The serving was enormous, really too big for anyone except a teenager. Overall it was slightly disappointing but adequate. Id recommend staying with the simpler menu items. The fried seafood items, other than the fish and chips, looked very good and seemed to be very popular.
The best place for food and entertainment on cape cod!!!
Stopped in and ordered 2 shots for myself and wife for our anniversary. She didn’t like the shot so I finished second one for her. Then the tiny, dorky bouncer bro came up and said we had to leave because I had two shots. Never heard that policy before. Pretty sure you can do more than one shot at a bar in most bars. Wish I had gotten kicked out for something cooler.
Frustrating to see a sea of polos and expensive button ups where the local fishermen used to spend their nights. Baked cod was a small portion for a high price. Gentrified to hell like a lot of places on Cape, sadly.
Had a nice dinner outside in the back at the picnic tables. Great area for kids as well. Had the stuffed quahog which was huge! And a very large hot lobster roll. My husband had fried shrimp. Generous portions and tasty drinks also.
So dont bother reading any of the other reviews. All you need to know is locals love this place, if you wanna have a good time dont pass up on this gem. Alright enough of the boring stuff. Theres two broads in there by the name or Morgan and Molly and youll be rethinking your marriage these girls are so hot. (Dont worry ladies they got a silver fox in there by the name of Greg). Anyways youve read enough, you get the point. Go in there and check it out and if it sucks down vote my rating but I promise youll love it!!
Excellent service even if the place was full (sunday afternoon...football game). It is another classic that deserved a visit and we are glad we went. The meal was good for a destination that is not necessirly renowned for its kitchen. It was good, quickly served and the vibe was fun to experience.
Staff/service was great, but honestly, I was really disappointed with the food. It was very expensive and below mediocre. My lobster roll was dry and the chicken parm was essentially a McChicken with some Prego sauce. The pasta under the chicken parm did not have any sauce, it was just plain, dry spaghetti for $25. If you are from nyc like we are, I do not recommend this restaurant. It will disappoint you. It’s a shame because we saw so many positive reviews about Chatham Squire and were excited to visit.
Came with two tired toddlers but still great experience
We got a great lunch here on a Monday afternoon. Service was good and all our sandwiches were very tasty (tuna salad, chicken salad, fishwich, and chicken bacon). Their fries were excellent!Lots of refreshing cocktail choices, too.
Average all around. Food okay. A little too pricey foe what you get.
Great local place. A must stop for Chatham.Ordered grilled scallops with butter dipping sauce and cup of amazing clam chowder. Wasnt on menu but they were accommodating. Samuel Adams beer on tap rounded out meal. Table of 4, ordered tuna sandwich, and 2 other house favorites and all were pleased. Will return.
Always a wait, always worth it! STEAMERS! They never taste as good anywhere else. Been coming here for 30+ years!
The Squire has always been the place to go to hang in the summertime. But at this point the drinks have been so watered down, and increased in price, that you really have to wonder if it still is the place it used to be. Sad.
Clean but tired. Easy parking on street but usually it would be hard to find a spot. As usual in this part of the world, there was a superabundance of battered and fried items on the menu. Food was okay but not special.
Loud and bro-y for Memorial Day weekend. Maybe its not always like that.
So disappointing. We’ve been going to the Squire for 27 years and have loved the memories we’ve created their with our kids. This year we brought family who had never been. The service was “ok” - not what we were used to. The music -during the day- too loud to talk. The food was the most disappointing. The changes to the menu are disappointing especially since I recall reading the new owners said the wouldn’t change it. But the quality was terrible. My dinner wasn’t edible. Others in our group were subpar. Serving wine in a plastic cup? Gross snd I’m never going to drink wine from a plastic cup. I will say the waiter did bring me a glass. We went back a second time thinking maybe it was a fluke. Nope. A drunk patron dumped her beer in my leg in the bathroom.Very sad
Nothing fancy, but a quintessential Cape bar/restaurant. Great comfort food, friendly/efficient service and good choice of craft beer!
The Squire used to be good years ago. After new ownership took it over it fell apart. My family goes to Chatham every year and every year we hope the Squire has improved. NOPEWAYYYYY over priced and the food is average. You think the pub side would be more reasonable with their prices, NOPE. Cheeseburger 15 bucks. I would pay that if it had taste. NOPE. I ended up returning the burger and eating my kids leftovers. The manger seemed uninterested to hear my complaint. I’m pretty sure he used to check IDs a few years back and was promoted to a manager position. When you have a burger with absolutely NO taste and you charge an arm and a leg for it, make sure it’s good. Don’t tell me where you get the meat and looked so surprised. My family and I will not be going anymore. That’s unfortunate seeing I’ve gone since I was 4 years old. If you want a GREAT place to get good food, Head to the Lanyard in Harwich. AMAZING and well affordable. 👍
This was the WORST dining experience ever! We were seated for dinner at 7pm. It was 30 minutes before anyone gave our party menus, then another 45 minutes before we could get someone to take our order. Outside was 400 loud rude seemingly-drunk-already kids waiting for the bar. I could not take a family member to the bathroom because there was already 22 drunk girls in line from the bar side. By the time dinner came it was after 9pm and with the wait to get a table it had already been an almost three hour ordeal. One of us had to fetch our own glass of water, the others went without. We would have talked to the manager but could not locate anyone in charge. What a zoo! They should not have a restaurant- obviously they are just interested in being a college dive bar.
We had lunch here after a late breakfast. Three of us just had a bowl of soup and I had the Cod sandwich. Our server seemed a bit annoyed with us when we asked questions about the 50/50 Clam Chowder/Bisque soup. So maybe she was having a bad day.Anyway the soup was very good (I tired my wifes) and so was my sandwich.
We always eat here at least once whenever we visit. Food is very good, wait staff and hosts are awesome. Great experience even when its very busy. Tech tip, arrive just a little before lunch or dinner rush if you want to avoid the bigger crowds,
Relaxed atmosphere with great food. The service was quick. Only criticism is the fact that they literally throw dishes into the dirty dish buckets behind the bar. It is extremely loud, especially when youre sitting right near the bar. There is no reason why the waiter/waitress cannot place the dirty dishes more quietly.
Great food in a nice, bar setting on Main st. A good place for the whole family. My kids loved the food as did we. Cant go wrong with anything on the menu, and the service is good and fast, which is important when you have hungry kids. Try the nacho poke bowl - they will even customize it to your standards. I did it without the nachos and it was amazing!!
Tasty food, and specials priced under $20 that offer big portions with salad or soup, plus a dessert. The recipes were original and prepared just right. The booths have flat, upright, hard wood seat backs that are not comfortable. Our server, Linda, was friendly, attentive and expeditious, but laconic and not exactly charming. Well go again.
Never felt so rushed to eat before! Was greeted with, Do you know what you want? No friendly service at all. Got the bill while eating and never asked what we wanted to drink. A group was staying around our table just waiting for us to leave. Very unpleasant experience.
Told 20 minute wait it was almost 4 times that with very few on the list ahead of us.
Charming little place! Excellent beer. Decor that tells a story as old as the squire (50+ years!). The fish sandwich was absolutely awesome. Perfectly breaded, but not overly, with a crisp finish and super flaky fish. Fun to look at all the different license plates. Very friendly and fast service.
Everyone needs to stop in The Squire...It can get busy because its a local and tourist attraction being right in town and all...We have been going to The Squire for generations... Family lives a 5 minute walk so its safe if we have a few too many.... LOL
We were there on a busy Wednesday evening in the latter half of June. Off-street parking was easy and close. They got the four of us seated very quickly despite being rather busy. We got our food in good time. I had the black bean burger which was about average in flavor, reasonably priced and I did not leave hungry. Their beer selection was somewhat limited.
