I went to get Gelx nails with Joiah. I followed her from another salon, she’s that good. Joiah is a gem and really takes the time to do it right. Her GelX STAYS! Plus she’s super sweet and fun to talk to.I haven’t had any other service at Define so far, but I absolutely plan to. It’s a beautiful facility and the employees are very friendly and welcoming.

I had a root touch up- the color turned out well, but unfortunately they do not know how to work with curly hair. The shampoo/conditioner and gel is an important part of the curly hair style process. I had to go home , rewash and style it myself. Unfortunate as they insist on charging $54 for me to sit under a hair dryer for 10 min. I won’t be returning . In addition, it was never communicated to me that I had to book a curly hair specialist in order for a root touch up. I assumed (and I suppose incorrectly so) that the shampoo/conditioner specialists knew how to apply curly hair products after conditioning.

I took my twin daughters to Define Hair for their 16th birthday. Neither of them had ever colored their hair, and they both wanted to go blonde without having to maintain color every couple of weeks. I choose Define Hair because of my own personal experience with the salon. My hair is a very similar color to my daughters’ and the highlights are done in such a natural way that I can go up to a year between highlights.From the moment we entered the salon my daughters and I were treated as part of the team. We met the stylists, Courtney and Bekah, and had a lengthy conversation about what exactly we were hoping to achieve, how often we would be able to maintain the color, and ways to prevent damage to their natural hair. Prices were all discussed before they started and all questions were thoroughly answered.The process took time, and as we waited the staff was professional and friendly offering all of us drinks, coffee, snacks etc.After a few hours in the chair, both of my girls were blown away with their results. To say that Courtney and Bekah nailed it would be an understatement!It has been a few months now and their hair is still as vibrant and smooth as it looked the day they got it done. It is growing out perfectly with no harsh lines or dulling colors.I highly recommend this salon, especially if you have teens who want a natural look that will last!

I have booked appointments in both the salon and the spa. My experiences at both have been top notch. The salon is sleek and modern with high end touches. Kaily gives an amazing curly hair cut , and Beth worked her wizardry to fix my half grown own gray hair mess. I love my color! The customer service is stellar. I recommend this salon 100%.

Just went today for my first appointment and I loved it so much! Alyssa was amazing: very attentive, friendly and professional. She listened to what I really wanted and did exactly what I envisioned. I will definitely be back soon, besides their amazing staff the place is beautiful!Definitely worth for a treat yourself day ❤️

Horrible experience. Went there to have my hair styled by a “professional“. I was very disappointed and unsatisfied. My hair is shoulder length , flat and slippery. So, as a professional, i would expect for the hair dresser to know what to do. I even showed her a picture of what i wanted. With confidence, she said “OK, I can do that”Unfortunately, Chelsea did not know what she was doing. She placed hairpins (A LOT!!) all over my hair and didnt even try to hide it. It was messy and didnt look close to the picture I showed her. I complained and said that the hairpins better not be exposed. She tried to blame me, and said that my hair was short and slippery thats why it kept falling off!! She knew that from the beginning. Not my fault. Left very unhappy and stressed! I Will never go back there!

Update after almost a year: I continue to see Sierra every three months and I receive compliments daily on my hair! Everyone is so sweet and I feel like family when I arrive. I highly recommend Define Hair!!!Old review: I have been seeing Sierra for awhile now and each time I leave Define I feel confident and beautiful. I cannot recommend her enough! The first picture is what she had to start with 😳 just look at how far we have come! Incredible !! Thank you Sierra!

I first came across Define when looking for a new hair stylist for my daughters and I. I moved to MD from out of state last year and had no found a place that could meet our expectations. We had a horrible experience at another place and were nervous about trying somewhere new. However- the minute we walked into the salon for my daughters hair appointment, we were greeted with a new customer bag full of goodies, chocolate and also a buy one get one free product sale since it was our first time.Our hair stylist is Sierra and she did an ABSOLUTELY amazing job on our daughter. Being Puerto Rican and Mexican - our hair is very course and naturally curly- so I was nervous about whether or not she would know how to deal or manage our hair while blow crying it. (Often times in previous experiences our hair always comes out puffy and frizzy because the hair stylist doesn’t really know how to style our type of hair) however - sierra did an AMAZING job and my daughters hair came out 10/10. Right then and there I booked for myself and I as well came out extremely happy with my cut and layers. I cannot recommend this place enough. We finally found our place. I suffer very bad from anxiety and it had been almost two years since I had step foot in a salon and Sierra and the front desk made me feel so comfortable and at home.Thank you for having empathy for those of us who struggle with anxiety and for making sure we had a great experience.

Ashely is an expert in extensions and does an amazing job pulling color, texture and the right extensions for my hair. She always goes out of her way to make sure Im happy and that goes a long way! Highly recommend.

Bekah and Kaily styled my and my two sisters’ hair for my sister’s wedding day, and we had a fantastic experience! They were knowledgeable, confident, friendly, and so accommodating - they really took the time to listen and tailor their approaches for each of our hair types and sensitivities, and we all left pleasantly surprised at what they were able to achieve with our hair! My hair is notoriously slippery and hard to style into an updo, and Bekah literally worked miracles to make my hair look elegant and stay in place for 12+ hours (even through dancing and sweating, haha.) They were so funny and personable and made the 2.5 hours fly by. Jason also came up to share his well wishes with my sister, which was so sweet and appreciated.The space itself was beautiful and luxurious (and surprisingly spacious!), and they seem very intentional about their product choices and techniques. A 5-star experience for sure!

As an old-school barber shop type person my original impression was that it was a bit much for me. My wife sent me here for the first time. I will say that after the experience, it was great. My stylist Katie did a wonderful job on my hair. Definitely recommend and will be going again.

I have been with Jen Lang for the longest time, she understands my hair, and I trust her with style and color choices.Recently saw Heather, she also did an amazing job.Would definitely recommend to check out the salon!

If you have fine hair, Molly is fantastic! Ive seen her for the past year for haircuts. In that time, she has my fine hair looking better than ever! She truly listens and is a kind soul. I recommend her, especially if you have fine hair.

Courtney did a great job! Not only do I love the cut and the way that she styled my hair, but I appreciated that she made extra sure I was happy with the length (I was pretty nervous about how short I decided to cut it lol). She also gave me tips on how to style it, which I’m excited to try out.Overall it was a great experience, and I will definitely be back!

I always go to see the stylist Molly to get my hair done and she never disappoints! Not only does she make my hair look incredible but she is beyond friendly. For our consultation she took her time to really figure out what I wanted and kept it in a budget that worked well for me. I absolutely love this place and I love working with Molly! I am so happy I found Define and got paired up with the amazing Mary! My hair has seriously never looked better. She takes the time to understand exactly what you want and prioritizes the health of your hair. I don’t know how she does it but my hair always feels stronger after seeing her despite the foils! If you’re looking for a dimensional-neutral blonde, Mary is your girl. I finally have the hair I’ve always wanted after trying different stylists for 6+ years. Mary also fixed a strange haircut a stylist had given me before meeting her with ease. Always worth the drive all the way from Baltimore City to visit Mary!!

After having babies and living in a ponytail I wanted something new for my hair, and Chelsea at Define delivered. Over two sessions I got a cut and then color. I feel lighter in more ways than one!

I had Katie who is just about to become a level 1 artist. She did an outstanding job! I went in not full on knowing what I wanted she helped me decide and exceeded my expectation! I have booked my next appointment with her! The business itself is amazing too they literally do everything from facials to nails to lashes and even do bookings for weddings! We had our bridal party come in and use the loft for hair and makeup. Not only were the hairstylists absolutely amazing, but they also had their makeup artist step in when one of mine had COVID. Absolutely amazing hair salon, 10/10 recommend.

Define is the third salon I’ve followed Aubrey to, and though the it’s pricing is high end, the staff, service and culture more than warrant it. I went for a color correction. From the second I walked in the door, I was impressed. It’s not just a relaxed atmosphere; the staff actively creates a calming, pampering experience. My stylist, Sara, was very thorough. Everything was explained perfectly and my hair is everything I wanted it to be!

Always a 5 star experience at Define! As a customer of almost 5 years (color, extensions, cut, etc.) I can confidently say, this is the best salon in the DMV. My stylist Sierra Wren is the best of the best and nails it every single time.

Melanie took the time to check my past records when I told her how short I wanted to go. She wanted to be sure I knew just how much shorter it would be than any cuts Ive had with her in the past. Maybe Im just getting braver in my old age, but it turned out great. I thought it was sweet that she would take the time to bring up my past records to make sure I knew exactly how much shorter I was going. Shes a keeper... never disappoints.

I met with Sierra for my initial curly girl appointment. She did a wonderful job of assessing my hair curl type, cutting my hair to suit my face and explaining how to take care of my curls. I’m looking forward to my next haircut.

Hands down the best hair salon experience I’ve ever had. Molly is absolutely incredible at what she does. From the shampoo to cutting and styling. She is so willing to learn and so attentive to making sure I was happy and comfortable with everything, and because of that I’m in love with my hair.

I’m a longtime customer of Jason and cannot say enough about his expertise in styling and coloring my absolutely awful hair. My daughter recommended Jason years ago and I’ve been a faithful customer ever since. Jason enables me to care for my hair and look good between my visits with minimal effort on my part. Wow! What more could I ask? On top of that, the atmosphere is relaxing, the staff attentive. Every visit is enjoyable. Highly recommended!

In May of 2022 I came to Stefany with hair that had been box died auburn for 5+ years. Covering up my natural dark blond hair. Stefany is truly an artist. She has always been so clear and detailed about the process and where I was headed each session. Less than a year later and I have drop dead beautiful and natural looking blond hair that is healthy, soft, and growing out beautifully. Words can’t do justice what she has done for me and my hair. I’m grateful for her hard work. And she is probably the fastest hair stylist I’ve ever met. I have a lot of hair and every time a stylist budgeted 2-3 hours, the time almost always got doubled. I swear Stefany is a wizard as from start to finish, a multi step processing, highlights, multiple washes, blow dry and styling etc…she has never taken more than 2 1/2 hours. Included pictures to show how drastically changed and healthy my hair is now.

Denise is so amazing!! Hands down the best esthetician I’ve ever gone to and I love the new spa side! Ever since i started coming here, my skin has been so much better. They use different skincare products that aren’t really found at other salons and the overall service is amazing. My only complaint is that pricing is a little high compared to other spas in the area, but it is still well worth it and you get what you pay for. I wish they offered a membership for monthly facials or prepaid packages for the custom facials!

I was looking for a new place for pedicures and I’m so glad I tried Define. Rachel gives top-notch pedicures. The prices are slightly higher than walk-in nail salons but the value, service and quality is great and worth it.

Define is such an amazing place - The entire staff is always so friendly and professional, and inside of the building is stunning and very well maintained. I LOVE define hair! the environment is so welcoming and clean. The staff is very friendly and they make you feel right at home. Most salons are good with customer service but they go beyond the standard. Simple things like a checkout option straight from your chair, or the head rests they have in the shampoo bowls really make people feel welcome and catered to and it didnt go unnoticed. My hair turned out great as usual. I go to Maddie, shes a great person for color. Ive been going to her for years and wont let anyone else touch my hair! highly recommend her and this salon!

I had an amazing experience with Jayme for Brazilian blowout service.My hair is very thick, curly and dry! I had one Brazilian treatment with Jayme and although she was super nice and caring, my hair texture did not change the way I wanted! I contacted them and in less than an hour Jason and Jayme made another appointment for me and went above and beyond to fix my hair the way I wanted. I’ve never seen such great customer service in my life! Thank you Define hair you were good to me :)

This review is more personal than my others, a family member brought me here as a gift for a special occasion. I rarely have my hair done, I tend to to have it chopped wherever its least expensive, but lately I have felt the need for a change. In the past I would have gotten my hair chopped short and box-dyed it red, but with tweens at home and a decent professional job, and ALOT of grays poking through, I needed something less juvenile. My stylist Sierra, who I have heard about forever, was absolutely perfect. I knew what I was asking for would be a challenge, and she verbally worked out her action plan to do my color. The cut I decided on was from an online picture and she nailed it. The employees worked well together as a team moving from one phase to the next, and overall I was very satisfied with my experience. I set up another appointment, even purchased some products I knew would be practical. I was in sales for years so no one is selling me unless I want to buy. This is not an inexpensive salon, but with certain things, you definitely get what you pay for, and my hair looks fabulous.

Ive been getting my hair done at Define Hair for years and absolutely love it. When they added the Spa features, I decided to treat myself and get a Lash LIft and Tint. It was an amazing process that left my lashes looking amazing. Almost a month later and I still get compliments on my lashes - without mascara. Denise was quick and efficient and easy to talk with. I recommend this service and Define to everyone.

Courtney listened to what I wanted for my cut and style on my first visit to Define Hair and then did exactly what I asked for. She also cut my 5 year old daughter’s hair and my 2 year old son’s. Both were great cuts but I was particularly impressed with job she did for my 2 year old. As you might imagine, that’s not an easy job and she was very patient and persistent in making sure his hair was just right. I also appreciate the earlier mornings and later evening hours available. We will be regulars here from here on out!

Heather is the best! She has real skill with the scissors. She is also very versed in products and styling. Also on the whole this salon is more than classy. What impresses me most is their commitment to continued learning. They really care about staying up to date with new trends. I will definitely be back.

Unfortunately, Ive never had a good experience here. The management and owner are extremely cringy to deal with. God forbid you come into this establishment and dont get what you asked for, they will use it against you forever and fight and argue with you when you ask for your money back. They are extremely overpriced and under qualified in my opinion. I was charged nearly $500 for a highlight job that barely made a difference to my hair color and after that i knew i would never be returning to spend my money in this salon again. I would HIGHLY suggest Ash & Oak salon in Catonsville which is not too far from here. You will actually get what you pay for and the management is so much more customer oriented and friendly in resolving any issue you may have. I have had nothing but great experiences there and I leave loving my hair every single time, I cannot say the same about Define.

It was my first time going here, and it was fantastic. A few days before the appointment, Kaily reached out to me to know my needs, and I shared my fears about being transgender and that I didn’t come out at work yet. Then, on the appointment day, Kaily greeted me and treated me with great care since I stepped in. She was so lovely and friendly, and she helped me decide what would work better for me. My haircut was perfect.This was also the first time I had my hair colored, and Kaily took the time to explain how it works and what would be best for me at this time based on my input. My color looks perfect. Kaily also recommended using the “Oribe Renewal Remedies Treatment.” I am so glad she did: my hair is now very soft and much healthier, and it smells so good as well :).Kaily is a professional that loves what she does. Her passion shows through her work, and she enjoys making people look their best. I’ll be a regular customer here now.

Okay so!! I have known Kaily for quite sometime now, and I’m SO glad she chose this profession because this career is perfect for her! She is the most caring, soft spoken, generous girl. Wowee wow. This studio is incredible. All the support staff were super helpful and welcoming. Its pricey, but you really get what you pay for here and if your hair is important to you, its definitely worth it. I also felt super comfortable coming here during COVID, and I am so excited to have finally found a new salon home after our move from Baltimore City.Go see Heather for balayage and a fresh cut. Girl gave me the best beach waves ever, and her coloring was impeccable. She extracted exactly what I was after in my inspo pictures during our consult, and was unbelievably thorough. Incredible experience and awesome products too. LOVE.

Ok so I’m not sure how I possibly haven’t left a review for this place yet! Define has been my place to go to for all my hair, waxing, and facial needs for the last 2 years or so! My skin has never felt or looked better thanks to Corinne who is the most friendly and knowledgeable esthetician I have ever encountered. And not to mention how she absolutely nails my eyebrows with their new henna service every time! And Heather?! I loveeeee what she does to my hair, and how she’s helped me with all my hair needs. Because of her I am obsessed with the Kevin Murphy line!! It’s literally the best. Heather is so so so sweet, and I love being able to catch up with her life each time I’m in. Jen Lang always listens carefully to what I ask for and gives me feedback on how to make it flattering to me. This latest medium pixie cut is my all-time fave!

I was paying $400 monthly for touch ups and service was getting poorer and poorer all while the price was getting higher and higher. (We had started off in the $270 range and then it kept moving up to $400.) Last straw was when they turned my hair black and refused to fix it in a very hostile manner. I got treated very poorly all while I was paying them that much money, mainly because I didnt have many options during the pandemic. I am now going to an actual salon in D.C. where the owners are White House stylists.. and 1 fourth of the price of what I was paying at Define ($80 for touch ups). $400 range was crazy for touch-ups but maybe that was special price for me, because I am originally a foreigner. Who knows. I always felt I was treated differently. But if others have had similar experience they need to speak up. I did end up getting a refund from them for the black dye stint but only after I reported them to the BBB, and after some hostile phone calls from them. I eventually had to block their number. If you want to get milked in exchange of poor service this is the perfect place, otherwise stay away. Oh and even though I asked them to not post my photos on their webpage they spitefully posted it on the main page after they realized I was going to post about my bad experience. Is this even legal? I do have job anonymity concerns and they are refusing to remove it. I asked them before, to remove it but they havent, I hope they do after reading this because that should not be allowed and I WILL get legal action for posting my photo against my consent. Also please stop calling my name, there is a reason I used a pseudonym, due to the said anonymity concerns given that my name is unique. You need to remove that photo from your page, I do not consent as well as my name.Again, the reason I am using a different name is for safety and job anonymity concerns, I WAS a customer of theirs with a different name however due to my unique name and job rules I can not expose myself. They are being really disrespectful of this request and I guess they will hear from my lawyer if they do not remove that photo and my actual name, If you are posting my photo on your page and call me Sarah and my actual name it does prove I was a customer doesnt it? That does not sound very smart of you guys. :D

I have watched this salon transform from its early beginnings as a professional hair salon to the beautiful, successful, well managed hair & spa it is today.  Covid brought another dynamic to the salon experience over the past year and Defines Management rose to the occasion without skipping a beat!  They made sure customers who couldnt come in during the lockdown had hair color for at home touch ups until we could be in the salon again.  Once lockdown orders were lifted and even now, safety measures seem to be at the top of their priority list.  I have always felt valued as a customer and completely at ease from the minute I step inside the door.  I look forward to my hair appointments so I can enjoy me time to relax and unwind and get constant compliments on my hair because of the expert care and color Jason has given me over the past 10+ years.  This place offers services at every budget level and every hair type and now they offer lash tinting and other spa services.  Jason is regularly teaching his techniques and learning so stay on trend. I cant imagine going anywhere else.

I don’t write reviews often, however, this place exceeds my expectations. Maddie is a true gem!! She brought my brassy hair back to a beautiful lively blonde! Plus the entire salon staff does their best to make you feel pampered with snacks, drinks, and head massages while they shampoo. Amazing!!!!

Everything was perfect, a little pricey but it was worth it. this was my first time coming here and i’m so happy with my results. i booked jennifer for the first time and she fixed my yellow ,brassy ,damaged hair. i’m so thankful and i can finally take pictures and feel confident. 100% recommended coming here. everyone is very professional and they listen and care about what you’re looking to do with your hair. :)

Hi! i came in yesterday and had an appointment booked with madeline for a trim and some layers because i had senior photos today. i walked into the upstairs building on accident, but the staff was kind enough to guide me to the downstairs building. the interior was absolutely gorgeous. it had a clean, sleek look. it’s very unique compared to any other salon i’ve been to. the staff was very kind and greeted me right as i walked in.madeline was so nice and she made great conversation. it was like catching up with a friend in a way. she gave me great recommendations for hair products and also gave me hair tips for my senior portraits and how to keep my hair looking shiny.although i only came in for a trim, i’m really happy i came here and the staff and environment really made the experience great. i will definitely come back!! possibly for some color next time

This salon is very clean and the staff is friendly and amazing. The chairs they use to shampoo your hair are by far the most comfortable Ive ever experienced. I dont know why every salon doesnt use these chairs. Absolutely zero discomfort in the neck. :)

I have been going to Maddie for over a year now, and as such Ive gotten to watch Define Hair grow into their new space and expand their brand. The entire staff is friendly and knowledgeable, its always a pleasure to walk in the door. The price point is higher than others, but the skill of the designers and stylists matched with the attentive customer service is well worth it. Define always ensures that the time you spend in the chair is not time wasted, and I cannot say enough about the quality of cut and color I receive. Weve done blonde balayage, a 5 color (minimum) ombre, and so much more and my hair is always soft, healthy, and bouncy. Their site is a good starting point, but I recommend calling about an appointment, the reception staff can help you figure out what stylist skillet matches best with your specific needs.

Savannah gives the best mens haircuts. They didnt just change the game, they defined it. All the women Ive met at the salon have been extremely professional and well organized. I drive from Baltimore just to get a good haircut in a nice atmosphere.

A fresh, modern, and very cozy salon Ill be frequenting again soon. Ive been past this section of Route 40 innumerable times, but had no idea a hip, accommodating hair studio was right under my nose. I got a crisp pixie cut from Monica, with lovely samples of new styling products. The space is refreshing and brightly illuminated, with a waiting area that provides complimentary healthy snacks and a coffee/tea bar. Attentive staff and no stress checkout. Give them a try!
