Im all about a gay dive bar, but its got to have the speedy and friendly bartenders to back it up.This bar has neither. The very simple drinks took forever and they were served with a scowl.Whats worse is that the bar gets ridiculously smokey from them continuing to allow people to smoke indoors.Learn to progress... Second-hand smoke is carcinogenic and pretty disgusting. Its unfortunate that this is the only real gay bar in Galveston. That said, Id rather go to the piano bar on the other side of town for a clean, smoke free and friendly experience.
Yes, it’s a gay dive bar and yes they allow you to smoke inside. If you don’t like cigarette smoke? Well there’s your warning.I went there for the first time a year and half ago and found it nostalgic. It reminded me of the gay bars of the past, a bit of grit and a bit of mystery. The bartenders were nice and courteous. As a tourist I enjoyed myself there after my day time obligations. Also they have a lovely patio out back.
Horrible please if you are gay and if you are looking for entertainment avoid this please. Is full of smoke and crack people. I found that they were over serving on this guy on the leather night and they don’t tell him anything. He threw drinks at us and was very insulting. And the staff never did anything, just kept over serving…..Completely unresponsive place.
Thank you Chance. Had to get out of the sun. Made Thursday afternoon much more enjoyable. Nice people!!! Scotty from Houston
First time there today. Good experience. Friendly staff and customers. I will be back.
I came across Robert’s my first time visiting Galveston and simply stated this is a gem of a venue. This is an extremely welcoming gay dive bar. Met some wonderful people here from all walks of life. Great place to socialize! Handsome bartender was also very friendly and sweet! Come as you are enjoy a drink or five.
We had such a wonderful time here and wanted to give a big shout out to the fabulous Chachie and one of the amazing bartenders Shannon who made our night super special and fun! Everything was absolutely fantastic, the only issue was a slightly problematic bartender who kept telling us that snowflakes should get out if they don’t like hearing slurs, but we didn’t let that ruin our night. Other than that, everything was so perfect. Thanks for an awesome night, can’t wait to come back soon!
Oldest gay bar in Texas! Total dive bar & we love it! Matt is great!
Extremely good vibes. we need more gay dive bars in this country.
We had a blast. Shannon is a great bartender. Chachie was l such a fun host. We had a great time! The bartender inside though, is racist said the n word with the hard r. Kept calling me and my friends snowflakes for no reason.
Man this place. When I walked in I was shy sitting at the bar, but after the bartender and host started talking to me and breaking me out my shell, it was one of the best nights i ever had . I ended up singing about 5+ songs !! I just want to thank everyone who helped me have a good time and thanks for the free drinks as well. i will be back soon❤️
We stopped here on Saturday and we were super early to the party for sure lol. When we walked in it had that dive bar feel you want. We played a few rounds of pool and then made our way to the back patio where we hung out in the pool and enjoyed our drinks. The folks there were so nice and of course welcoming! The fella with the gummy bear shorts you made our entire day!! I of course opted for Jorts mid day instead of jeans and he brought me scissors lol, as one does. The attentiveness and kindness served here is one to be sought after. It’s a dive bar and if you come expecting more you 1 are a fool but 2 should just relax and enjoy yourself. We had the best time, enjoyed our beers that were kept cold by the koozies they kept bringing and the water offered to hydrate us without even asking. Go enjoy yourself and hang out for a while, take some friends, float in the pool and enjoy life!
I was there for the first time last night. It was pride night and can honestly say as a straight man, I felt more welcomed there than I have at a family reunion. These ladies and gentlemen are some of the best people, and will welcome you. My son is now my daughter (transitioning) and I got the best advice. The drinks. Holy cow, bring a tolerance. There is no ratio with a mixed drink. They are strong!!! The atmosphere is simply amazing. If I am ever down here again, this will be the first place I stop. Thank you for making me feel welcome.
A group was having an event at Lafittes and I have heard how much fun Lafittes is so I decided to check it out and was not disappointed. I came alone and even though I go to lots of gay bars, I dont look like I go to gay bars. I met the bartender Dhaddy. He was very friendly and nice. I made the mistake of asking for a pinot grigio and we all had a laugh. The bar is a bit of a dive but I love dive bars. The regulars are very friendly and I heard lots of interesting stories. They have a pool too that was open. They even had a potluck for the 4th of July. It is really hot this summer I plan on going quite often for a beer and a swim.
Fantastic dive bar great music and sportsWas there on Friday for pride Galveston kickoff off .the drag performances were great but the last number they said Miss lafittes Christina. Some thing.gave illusion of Tina Turner it was Simply the best was hoping to see her Saturday night.so we left .see yall agian
Ventured in while on a seawall walk. Nasty place. Sleezy people. Place smells like an old ashtray. They allow the old lounge lizards to smoke inside when theres a large outdoor patio on premises. Look at the disgusting coffee pot. Sums up the place - gross!
Historic gay bar with a large outdoor garden and drag shows. It’s a dive bar so no one’s putting on airs. Slumming in Galveston I never fail to stop in for a visit. Can be raucous on weekends and evening drag shows. Friendly staff. Do yourself a favor and spend $10 to park in the huge block away Pleasure Pier guarded parking lot.
One of my favorite places to go while I’m there visiting. Always have to go and see Cowboy Tom and have some of his famous Bloody Mary’s. The pool is great to hang out in, the shows are always good and I’m always made to feel comfortable and welcomed. As a single straight woman that goes in while visiting the area, I have always felt like part of the family, and the most protected and safest lady I the bar. Can’t wait to go back.
This venerable gay bar is a delightful peek into gay history. If you have ever read or watched a documentary about San Francisco (the Castro) in the 1970s and wished you could have been there, or if you were there and miss it, you are in luck. This bar has a very authentic classic gay neighborhood bar inside, with dim lighting, facinating decorations on the walls, and wonderful, friendly staff and clientele. After you grab a drink at the bar, make your way out the back door into a tropical wonderland. There is lots of comfortable seating among the rainforest of tropical plants. Bring swim wear, because as long as you order two drinks, the very clean swimming pool will cool you off.Theres another bat by the pool. Its kind of an outdoor Tiki lounge vibe.On my visits, the mostly-male crowd was a wonderful mix of guys from all walks of life. This is the kind of place where you might find a professor from the medical chatting at a table with a welder, a trust fund kid, and a hippy. If you are LGBTQ or an ally, this is a place you really dont want to miss.
Its used to be good not anymore too many crackheads homeless
I come here with my cousin whenever we are in Galveston. One of our regular stops. One thing I must stress (as a straight guy) is how respectful and wonderful everyone is in this place. Honestly this is one of my favorite bars in the world (and I travel A LOT). The drinks are stiff, the prices are fair, the bartenders are excellent as well. Its a wonderful place to unwind after walking downtown amongst the pretentious. Totally judgement free environment. Youre missing out if ya pass this place up. Long live Roberts Lafitte.
My husband and I were staying nearby, first time in Galveston, and thought what the hell. What you would except a gay seaside bar to feel like. The employees and customers were friendly and fun. Everyone was kind and welcoming. Loved the poolside bar in the back. Would reccomend.
Absolutely a fun bar, I was unsure when I first walked in, but the bartenders are just very friendly and inviting! Cant wait to go back!
Ive been coming to this bar for years, and it has everything - drag shows, charity functions, birthday celebrations, even a cruise-y pool out back. Its patrons are like a case study in demographics, and includes hotties, hustlers, locals, tourists, older men (of the typical man and the dirty old man types), pool sharks (of the billiards-type and the swimming-hole type), a spattering of women, but by and large, Lafittes is filled with regular people, just like you and me! The bartenders are mostly long-time employees that are friendly, and they pour great drinks. The atmosphere is laid-back, unpretentious, and casual. See you there!
I came here on a weekday evening. It’s a great dive bar, but then you go outside and the outdoor patio is just lovely, and then we found the pool and outdoor bar back beyond the patio and it was like we stumbled into an adorable gay oasis.
I must say that this place is very very nice with wonderful people I only had a problem with one bartender. But I think he was just having an off day. The food that they have here is very delicious and it is a great place to go to hang out with friends. Im from San Antonio Texas and I went with two other friends and had a great time.
Racist establishmentTheyre very nice if youre white, it seems. They told the 2 hispanics in the bar to leave because they werent drinking (just attending / helping for the drag show)Meanwhile all the whites were allowed to remain in the bar without spending money
I was on vacation and stopped by. Had a great time both Friday and Saturday. Chris was attentive and Cowboy Tom made me feel special when I walked in Saturday and he remembered who I was. Loved the patio and pool and am getting over my sunburn from staying in the pool too long. Great place n I will be back. Allan
Love this place!! Always fun & welcoming!*** went back for the first time in a long time, the crowd and ambiance remain the same but this bartender Matty was incredibly sour faced and rude both evenings we went! Absolutely ridiculous! Such ar great place normally.
I went to my first drag show 2 nights ago with my wife and mother and it was the most amazing experiance ever. Meeting the ladies who performed was magical and I cant wait to come back!!! I lowkey wanted to cry a few times from all the excitment lol 😅
I stopped by this little bar a few times back in 2009,and dident know what to expect. It was kind of what you might expect a gay seaside bar to be like. The people were friendly, the place was packed with locals drinking cheap beer and cocktails, and the drag show was entertaining. Would i go back?,........the answer is yea!!!
Out of all the gay clubs I would say this one is the best. Great people and they are very good to you. Great decor. I will be going here for a long time and I would recommend this club to anyone who is looking for a great club in Galveston. Thanks from youre man Korry! Yall are great!
Incredibly rude! Not only did they dismiss my friends 50th birthday because she was a woman and they “only care about the boys” but they shouted racial slurs at us as we left!
Great neighborhood bar with friendly and fun bartenders, drag show, and even an outdoor area with bar and pool! Bartender Matt made sure my friend and I had a great time and even gave us a tour of the place since he knew we were first timers.
Let me preface this by saying when you walk in there it feels like a party youre not invited to, and there are a few guys in there that are well past drunk. I had the worst experience Ive ever had, not even at a bar! Literally anywhere! This is a lot and Ill never go back bc of this bartender, everything else was very fun but if Matt its working there DO NOT GO! Hes white, has blondish hair, maybe blue eyes, and a very I hate you face when he talks to you. When Matt took my first drink order he was off handedly catty and went out of his way to make me feel more uncomfortable than I already was. Then my alarm went off for my medication so of course I take my medication (which I am able to drink while taking). I go up and Matt is completely ignoring me bc hes talking to his friend in the corner so Im like hey! He finally comes over and I apologize and say Im sorry Im not very good in social situations then Matt says I can tell and I assume hes joking with me but then tells me Im drunk..... I told Matt Ive had 3 fireball shots and Im not drunk (3 fireball shots within or over an hour and a half) then Matt tells me I saw you taking pills.... I did take a.... A pill out of a prescription bottle so I say thats my medication. Matt tells me that I cant drink on medicine anyway.... and I was almost at the point of pulling out my prescription bottle and showing him (which is horrible that an employee where I was being served made me feel like I had to prove myself) and I tell him that was my anti depressant (the fact that I had to disclose what prescription medicine I was taking to this employee is embarrassing) then he continues with his whole Im not allowed I cant while there is literally a wasted guy hugging me and telling me he loves my hair. THEN he tells me there is a bar outside if I want to drink more...Like I said its a lotI go outside (did not get another drink) and call my sister to pick me up bc I honestly felt so attacked and targeted by him. So while Im telling my sister what he said to me I start crying.... Matt comes out while Im on the phone with my sister to listen to what I say!!!!! After that I was thinking how can someone be so rude and such a bully to one person so I went in and asked the other bartender what his name was. Well I suppose that other bartender told him I asked for his name bc him and his friend both come outside and talk about the type of customers that they cant stand.... I have never felt so attacked and bullied in my life!!!! When my sister picks me up theyre still outside talking about the worst kind of people and I tell her thats the guy that has been rude to me and she tried to take his picture bc shes pissed that he made me cry. Matt runs inside after she takes the picture and his friend yells at her and says hes gonna call the cops on her. This was literally the worst experience Ive ever had at a bar and Ive been to Houston bars where men will grab your butt just bc theyre walking by, not only that but the worst day Ive had since I was in Jr high. Normal people dont treat other people like that, that was cruel.
Saw a documentary about about this place. It was so heartwarming. Ill definitely come by if I ever come to Galveston.
We had never been here. Just ended up at this fun bar by accident. The drag show was so fun! Friendly folks and staff. Loved it!
Smoky! Stiff drinks. Used-2 have Disco🙂music but now sumthang else.
All the guys were so friendly and kept buying me drinks. I had an amazing time! Then I found out why… 🙃
I lovr this bar! It is the oldest gay bar in Texas. When my lover and I mobed here 18 yrs ago they took us in as family and taught me alot! Great gay family atmosphere!
The oldest gay bar west of somewhere or other - definitely a place to visit at least once in your life Kind of smoky- and I smoke - but the drag shows are entertaining and the back patio is pretty cool and there is even a swimming pool Of all the dive bars that you will ever go to with swimming pools I can pretty much say that you will like this one best and the drinks are cheap and strong so-
My favorite gay bar in all of Texas! If you like your bars cheap and seedy then this is the place for you! There is never a dull moment here!
