Its hit or miss for live music. friendly service, which is saying something in Gloucester. fish and chips is dead-on. good beer selection. parking is pretty easy, also rare in this town. fills up fast on weekends. a local hotspot, i guess. been around for decades.

The bar is intimate and cozy with an attentive bartender/server behind it. There werent any tables, that I could see, just the bar and some benches by the window. The White Apple Sangria was deliciously dangerous and the food was amazing! Definitely would go back!

Best divey bar around. Small, fun. Good drinks. Only went late night. Didnt eat.

If I go to Gloucester, you know I will wait there for you, The Rhumb line is waiting there too. Ra Ra Riot named their 2008 album after this place. I love it.

It is a real bar with live music! Great atmosphere and lots of people dancing! The band was incredible! We danced the whole night!

Loved the music! 8:00 p.m. Wednesday night in early October. We came for drinks and appetizers. Were visiting from Cleveland. The place is filled with local senior citizens tonight, and were loving it. Everybody is singing! Playing the Eagles, Bob Dylan, Peter-Paul-Mary, Louis Armstrong, Crosby-Stills-Nash, Simon-Garfunkel, and some original songs in the folk style. Taking requests. The atmosphere is happy, very cozy, and friendly. Waitress is so sweet. She brought my husband some free beer to try. We had delicious cheese sticks and a humongous warm pretzel. I love this place!

Have to say it was quite disappointing to drive 20 miles to see some great music, but get no supper. I figured getting there around 730, 745 would be plenty of time, since music was on til 900. I got there about 740, sat at the bar, took about 10 minutes to get a beer, while bartender had to deal with an unhappy customer at far end of bar. finally got my beer and placed my order quick because I was hungry, about 7:50,. at 8:05 manager tells me kitchen is closed, offers to comp my beer.Who closes a kitchen at 8:00 with a room full of customers and no other explanation?This place was a regular music & food stop for me for years. I tried to support them but it wasnt worth it.Sorry I tried.when music was over , I drove down the road and got some food.

My daughter and I stopped in here after spending the day on the beach. We found it on a Google search. It looked promising, if not a bit of a dive. We were starving and hoping to eat as quickly as possible. We were in the wrong place for that. We saw that it was more of a bar than a restaurant but were hopeful anyway. We sat ourselves and waited about 5 minutes to be acknowledged, then were given water and ignored for over 15 minutes. I managed to get the attention of one of the (apparently only 2?) servers and she started walking over to us but then detoured to stand and talk to two men at another table for another 5 minutes. It was apparent she was more interested in talking than taking our order. We ended up walking out and finding a wonderful place to eat. I would never set food in here again. I might note we were the only people at any of the tables aside from the 2 men who the waitress were so interested in. They were not eating. Just drinking. I guess you get great service if you are drinking. Not so much if you want food.

Thursday night music attracted me and my boyfriend. We arrived at 5:45, 15 minutes early for the show. The group, Dave Spags & friends, played fun jazzy music, great performances by all. Especially liked sax and bass, although all musicians were excellent seasoned players.But the staff and nachos left much to be desired.

This is a locals hangout/bar and everyone is friendly. The food is really good, Ive never been disappointed. The owner, Fred, mixes up the menu specials nicely. The staff are all great! Drinks are always good and the entertainment is really good or fun, if its trivia night!. Check out Thursday nights music with Dave Sags & Friends (usually).

The Rhumb Line is a unique place. It is a favorite of the locals. You can get a bite to eat, have a drink and sometimes see some live music. The staff work hard to take care of your needs. If you go on a Friday or Saturday evening be ready for it to get a bit loud around 7p. Loud in a good way. The Rhumb Line is fun.

This is a nice cozy place to be able to sit back, kick your feet up and enjoy Gloucester ambience in a horseshoe bar environment. They have live entertainment and the wait staff there is very friendly and helpful. You wont go wrong coming here

Why are they charging $5.00 entertainment fee now, no music last night, wasnt posted that it was cancelled either

I love the live music. There is always different bands but of course the popular ones always come back. They have open Mic every Monday which is nice to hear different types of music in one night!

The food is very good. But to me thats the second reason I frequent this place. The first reason is that they pull in the best local music talent on a regular basis. Attend the Monday Night Open Jam and try to keep your jaw off the floor from awe!

Oldest bar in town, so Im told. Met legends, saw great bands, and felt as welcomed as if I were from here. Musicians, bartenders, and crowd were grounded, real, & warm. Made me want to move here.

First time there and we started with nachos which the fact that they were made in house from deep fried tortillas was a great surprise but they could have been much better if they added a little more cheese and salted the chips after deep frying with some sea salt. Main course was the hot pastrami sandwich with a lot of meat on thin bread that couldnt hold the meat after the juice set in. Maybe thicker bread or toasted would help. The mustard was standard yellow where brown or spicy mustard would of added a star to this rating.

I saw all the good reviews about this place while staying close by and decided to take my wife out for some drinks and live music. Let me tell you, these high rated reviews for this place are bogus. I would not recommend this place to anyone. Not only was it dirty but the atmosphere was gross. I cant say anything about the food because we didnt order.

Went in to the bar. Waited a bit and wasnt greeted. So i spoke up, and bartender said i can sit anywhere. So i sat at bar. Bartender barely spoke to me. So i ordered a couple of drinks. She rarely checked with me to see how i was doing, as she kept walking by me over and over even when I made eye contact.Most of the time i tried speaking with her she gave me very curt short answers and walked away even before i could finish my sentences. Too bad i was such an inconvenience trying to chat and get to know the place better seeing that I live nowhere close to Gloucester. In the end i had to wait almost 10 mins to pay my tab.This is sad, cuz the reviews were excellent and i was looking forward to a great evening that was unexpectedly cut very short. Wont be stopping by there anytime soon.

What can I say, if you have been there then nothing I could say would be something you didnt know, and if you havent you need go experience it for yourself, no pointers, just figure it out, call it the learning curve, or the Darwin line, but definitely note I gave it 5 stars.
