We have had several meals at this location and have been pleased in the past with food quality. Tonight, however, our food did not meet the same standard. Several of our dishes came out charred. As seen in the picture, the empanada was inedible. We had an eggplant dish that was burned to the extent you could not put a fork in it. The waitress initially offered a refund for the uneaten dishes and a discount which we were happy to accept. When we questioned the lack of a discount on the receipt she rudely claimed she was trusting our food was burned yet she had no way to touch or test it. This was not true, as the picture again proved, the burning was apparent even from a distance. We have always enjoyed our meals here and were extremely disappointed by our experience tonight.
Came by tonight to try the new food menu - great food & great service from Cam! Ordered the arepa de queso, yucas fritas, and pinchos de sirlon. I subbed rice & beans for the potatoes with the pinchos (would recommend). Yuca fritas were my favorite - loved the homemade mustard sauce. Also enjoyed the drinks & the bartender (Cam) mentioned they’re putting out a new cocktail menu soon.
Dined in on a Wednesday night. We had not been to Greenville before and were on a stopover on our way to Chattanooga. There was only one other couple in the restaurant. We ordered the sangria which was nothing special. Tasted like the Costco sangria out of the bottle. Then tried the bread and calamari. Both came with the same mayonnaise-like sauce. Bread was not great and uniform fried calamari circles, though crisp, were salty. Then we ordered the octopus. Salty and chewy balls of octopus on bland potato circles. We finished with the seafood paella which was so salty I could feel my blood pressure rising when I ate it. Not worth our 130 dollar tab. That being said, our hostess and server (same young lady) was very nice and our food came out quickly.
I should have known it wasn’t going to be a good experience when after sitting 15-20 minutes no one greeted us. I went up to one of the servers and told her we had a show to get to and asked if our waitress could take our order. She said our waitress was downstairs doing something, and she offered to grab our order. Food and atmosphere was ok at best, nothing fancy at all. Cheap silverware and plates. The waitress said she put our food in right away and we thanked her. The table who ordered right before us got their food rather quickly, so I was excited it wouldn’t take forever for our food to come out. The tapas came out separately, which was not ideal, but not a big deal. Everything came out besides the croquettes and the paella, and after waiting about 30 mins she said that they should be out shortly and offered to pack it up to go if we needed it since we had a show to get to. (Why I would want to pay all this money to just take food to go beats me), but I said we still had 15 mins before we had to leave and expected it would be ready shortly. After 5 more minutes the manager apologized and said they “lost part of our ticket” and he would discount our check. I said ok and continued to wait. We got the croquettes a couple minutes later. 10 more minutes went by and I walked up asked for the check and asked them to just take the paella off and give us the discount so we could leave. They only took off $7 for the paella and $5 “discount” for the wait and horrible service. The Paella normal goes for $11 and for restaurant week they had 3 tapas for $26 which comes out to $8.66 per tapa, and we waited about an hour for two of the tapas (croquettes and paella) so really we should have gotten at least a $17 off for the food that took so long (or never came). They only gave us $12 which barely covers the paella they said they would take off. I talked to the one female manager and mentioned the “discount” the male manager offered and she said the discount was the $5 empanada they took off plus the $7 (which didn’t even cover the actual price) for the paella that I told them to take off cause we had to leave and couldn’t take food togo into the Theater. I will never ever go to or eat here again, food was sub par at best and the service and ambiance in general was horrible. Super disappointed.
Love the music and look of the restaurant. The bartender who took care of us was really nice! The food wasnt the best though. The fried fish nuggets were really good and my favorite bite of food, the fried shrimp had a reallllyyyy thick corn dog like batter, so the inside of the batter was kinda undercooked....i couldnt finish them . The garlic shrimp had no flavor, and the crab salad was oddly sweet. The potatoes were really good...I tried the Spanish style ones and it was a smokey kind of spicy sauce on it. They do have a really good sangria!
We were excited to try here because of the ratings- so disappointed! It took us 1 1/2 hours to get our first three tapas & we were so unhappy after that- another half hour for the next 3. Bar was empty & restaurant had tables open. I asked if it always took this long & they said it was restaurant week & they would comp one tapa- which they didn’t. Unfortunately, it was a terrible experience with mediocre food that took about 2 hours to get with no explanation.
OMG! Such a great little place! Wonderful variety of small plates for every taste. We sampled garlic shrimp, chicken croquettes, truffle oil potatoes, beef cheeks in wine sauce, and chicken with almond sauce. Couldn’t pick a favorite if you put a gun to my head. MC was our server and she knocked it out of the park with her friendly attitude and excellent suggestions. Very knowledgeable. Will come back next time we visit Greenville.
I was really hoping to love this place, but it fell short of all hopes and expectations. The food was not at all fresh. The shrimp in the shrimp tempura was mush, no firmness to it and more breading than substance. The ham croquettes came out ice cold in the center the first time, so I’m assuming that these are frozen- whether made in-house at one point, or came from Costco, I don’t know, but they lacked flavor. The steak medallions tasted a lot like a McDonald’s hamburger. The similarity in taste was uncanny, really. The truffle potatoes were just cubes potatoes with grated manchego cheese on top- not even melted, just sitting loosely over the potatoes. The best part of this meal was being done.
Food is AWFUL. We ordered sopa de garbanzos along with other tapas and if I tell you the broth tasted like sea-water I’m not even exaggerating. That was the saltiest soup I ever had. Paella de vegetales and paella de la casa were very salty too and looked and tasted like preheated rice packages. Attention and service was pleasant. Club upstais was great too but the food is trash. Drinks we ordered did not taste like a mojito or sangria; they were sour alcohol and not in a good way. Like I love a cocktail drink with good amount of alcohol but the ones we had didn’t even taste like mixed drinks. Not impressed at all. If we ever go back is definitely not because of their food. Gave it two stars because of their customer service.
It was lack luster at best! The food was mediocre and there was no one in the restaurant which should have been the first clue. We got the octopus and for $30 it was not worth it!! Meh! Dont waste your time. Everything tasted processed and below average. We are moving on to something better...stay tuned! Heard the Cazbah is better for tapas..
I had an amazing night but the next day I received an incorrect charge. I went for a drink on May 18th, and the next day I noticed my card was charged $89.06. I called them the following Wednesday, and they told me the tip was entered incorrectly and the manager would process the refund later that day. I followed up on May 24th, and they said the manager would process it that day as she had been out for a family emergency.I called again on May 29th to follow up. The gentleman I spoke with on the phone was very apologetic and kind, assuring me it would be taken care of. However, I still have not received the refund. I called again on June 7th and June 14th, but the refund still hasnt been issued. I also requested an emailed receipt and information that they will process it on June 14th and have not received an email or the return. This has been a very frustrating process. While I appreciate the gentleman on the phone for being helpful and kind, the overall experience has been extremely unprofessional and disappointing in terms of customer service.
Orange Violetta: refreshing bubbly drink, hint of creme sweetness, a good choice for the warmer months. Very good evening drink for a dinnerEmpanadas: ham and cheese, was disappointing compared to the other two I tried, it was quite airy and not much filling, it’s a good starter for children that may be intimidated by the menu, it’s an enticing item for new customers in town.Omelet: to be frank it’s very easy. Not much flavors beside from potato, not very fluffy or seasoned enough to be eaten all the way, the simple flavor has a lot to be desired and it lacks so much luster; furthermore the texture is too soft and far from being called an omelet with confidence. I forgot I even ate it by the end of the evening.Honey eggplant: From someone that doesn’t enjoy eggplant, this was delightful, subtle with a small crunch, the hint of sweetness was a good touch of freshly seasoning.Chorizo: Not bad, a little on the simple side and I could do without the sweetness of the apple cider. It’s an okay choice.Ox tail: To put simple it was not bad, First time eating oxtail and pretty good, could do with more layered flavors but over all very good.Dates: Fantastic, fresh and warm the sweet to savory ratio was immaculate, the small crunch of almond with the savory bacon evens out the sweetness and the texture of the date. Very very good.Shrimp: It’s shrimp. A safe choice if you’ve ever had shrimp. Meh not bad but not crazy good.Octopus: This was my first time having it, very good, cooked perfectly, seasoned beautifully to perfection with a harmony of flavor, i definitely recommend.Cow tongue: Absolutely recommend!!! This was a welcome taste to the flavors of Spain. Cooked very well, melts like butter in the mouth. I recommend this more than anything else.Mushrooms: Disgusting. Don’t even try it.Dessert: chocolate cake, almond cake and churros. All from frozen, missing flavor and the almond cake was very dry. I don’t recommend.Overall not a bad place to eat, but lacks luster.
Visited over Easter Weekend and my wife and I were excited about the menu. We were a little shocked that at 8pm on a Saturday night there were only 8 people in the entire restaurant, us, another 2 top and a 4 top. The other 2 top took the hint and bolted after a glass of wine. Our food was extremely disappointing. Patatas Bravas had some decent flavor and heat but I am pretty sure the potatoes had been sitting under a heat lamp for 6 hrs. They had zero crispiness and were just sort of soft. The tortilla (Spanish omelette) was bland and came out with a grayish color that was not appetizing. The Paella with vegetables reminded us of a 90 sec spanish rice packet from the grocery store with some tired overcooked birdseye frozen vegetables sprinkled in. I have had better reheated rice on an airplane. The Gambas al ajilo had good flavor and the shrimp were not over cooked but this was a missed opportunity to include some crusty bread to soak up some garlic oil. The only bright spot was our hostess/server. She was very sweet and the food service was fast. If you have only a couple nights in Greenville, I would advise to keep looking.
I am giving 3 stars here because there are no half stars. Observations - they can get crowded fast. When this happens the service slows down. I couldnt tell if its the kitchen keeping up or servers.I say that knowing tapas meals are slow rolling meals. They are meant to enjoy over conversations. So, all in all not too slow. The drinks could come quicker. As for the food. That was very good. Suggestions: Chicken in almond sauce, the dates, Spicy potatoes, Oxtail, Ham tostada with tomato.
Went here hoping for a good meal and left disappointed. The patatas bravas had a nice heat but the potatoes weren’t crispy. The beef empanadas were very salty. The chicken empanadas were so dry neither of us ate them. We should have paid closer attention to the most recent reviews that this place has gone downhill.
We dropped in for dinner about 7:00pm on a Thursday and were the only guests in the restaurant. We were waited on immediately by a helpful waitress. We ordered 6 dishes from the midweek tapa specials (3 selections for $18) - albondigas, tortilla espanola, bacon-wrapped dates, brussel sprouts, patatas bravas, and chorizo cooked in cider. All were tasty and well prepared, although the chorizo was a little too sweet rather than a bit spicy. Portions werent large, but that is what I would expect for tapas. Low-volume Spanish music was playing as we ate, which was pleasant. We would come again. (As we were finishing up, musicians were getting set up to play upstairs. Judging by their warmup, the music promised to be deafening.)
We came here to eat before a concert. We have a tapas restaurant we love at home and thought this would be similar. The service was slow and our water glasses were never refilled. Instead of coming out one plate at a time, our food came all at once. It was average at best. The eggplant was unrecognizable, but the calamari was excellent. Overall ok but not fabulous.
Trinity was amazing. A breath of fresh air. Such a lovely young lady. Super nice and professional. The food is extremely good. Please go try it for yourself. I will be ordering from and coming back again.
Was up there at the start of July. 30ish year old man was the most chill bartender I’ve ever met. Next year when I’m in town I will totally be coming back to this place!
We ate here quite awhile ago and really loved the food. The quality has dropped. The restaurant needs some maintenance. I hope it improves. I love Spanish tapas.
I went for their club experience and it was nice. Upbeat. Small venue but great place to start the night off. Some of the drinks were a bit strong but hey. Fine by me.
We had what I can only describe as a truly bizarre experience at Abanicos. My fiancée and sister both ordered the crab and shrimp salad w avocado. One plate had the avocado removed from the skin and sliced, with plenty of salad. The other, which came out first, was just half an avocado, skin on, with little more than a dollop of the salad on top. After we got the second one, we mentioned the differences to the server who said chef makes it one way and the sous chef makes it another. I find that truly bizarre, which I politely told her. To top it off, the “crab” in the shrimp and crab salad is imitation crab. Seems deceitful to not call that out on the menu.My sister (who got the sad end of the salad fiasco) order the Arroz Caldosco. The menu specifically states “grilled cod.” Not only did the cod come out deep fried, but it was fried beyond recognition. It was completely dry and extremely chewy. Rubbery texture is not what I’d expect in cod. When it came out fried the server offered to remake it, but we had waited over 30 minutes for the plate (as we did for all plates), so it wasn’t worth sending back.I ordered a mojito that had so much sugar in it that it tasted like Kool Aid. I also had the cheese and ham, grilled octopus, and the clams. Those dishes were fine.My fiancée enjoyed the fried eggplant as well as the happy version of the salad, though the imitation crab thing remains a bummer. She also ordered the patatas bravas, which ended up being commercially produced french fries covered in sauce. The server hadn’t seen them yet and I asked her if patatas bravas were french fries. She said “no, they are a rustic cut potato.” We showed her a picture of what we received. She said she’d yell at chef for us.Attached, picture of patatas bravas:
Food was amazing but Camila, our waitress was wonderful!!! Great customer service! Thank you so much for helping us celebrate our friend’s birthday and making it extra special!
We popped in during Restaurant Week. The tapas was outstanding. The toasted baguette, garlic, tomato and Jamon Serrano, seasoned Brussels sprouts and almond stuffed dates wrapped in bacon were YUM!!! More than ample portions for the price. Great music. Staff was courteous, attentive and pleasant. So glad they will be opening for serving lunch. Enjoy!
We went for Halloween! It was awesome and had an amazing DJ. No entry fee! They stopped serving food at 9 so I was hungry but its a great place to go and dance. The cocktails had been pre- made for the party but they were definitely made way too strong which some would appreciate but I actually like my cocktail too taste like a cocktail and not just mixed liquors 😝
Great deal on very authentic tapas. We went on a Wednesday and took advantage of their midweek 3 tapas for $18 deal. We especially liked the mussels, the Brussel sprouts, the albondigas (meatballs) and the paella. Great service and some good, reasonable wine choices as well. We’ll be back!
Service was great the food tasted good, the drink need work!
Atmosphere here is probably usually great, but the wife and I had to get an early dinner because of other plans afterward (we arrived at around 4:30PM and left around 6). The food & drinks were both delightful, and we left very happy and planning on going back!
First time eating here and I can promise you it won’t be the last. The food was superb, the service was awesome, prices reasonable, and our server Abby was attentive and charming. The seafood paella was plentiful, well cooked, and savory. The octopus a la feira was just right in the seasoning and was not chewy. These are not foreign dishes to me given my Spanish background. Kudos Abanico and see you again!
The composition of the dishes was more like sides than tapas. Proteins werent paired well with veggies or sauces. But everything was cooked well
They have to keep an eye on when the toilet paper runs out in the bathroom, and in one of them you cant even wash your hands because there is no water coming out of the tap.
I picked Abanico to meet cousins because I wanted to try the paella. Service was friendly, and made suggestions. The food was a disappointment. My cousin ordered beef with blue cheese that Abby, our waitress, recommended. He ordered it beef medium, but it arrived very overcooked. My paella came out separately, and last, and it embarrassed me. It was dropped alone on a large white plate, without a garnish of any kind, and filled maybe 1/3 of the plate, which made it look even more lacking. Two medium mussels, two medium shrimp, two tiny scallops, and a miniscule clam, in about 1.5 cups of rice, for $20. Thankfully I had ordered a pitcher of white sangria, which was beautiful, and softened the blow. Now I see why we were the only people in the place. The website is awesome, I was expecting THAT experience. Live and learn.
Tapas were excellent. $35 for a pitcher of Sangria!! Server was excellent. Great place.
I was staying in the area and passed by, I thought this would be great to try something different before I left. I chose poorly. They were having a special on tapas, 3 for $18. I ordered the patas bravas, mejillones a la vinegareta, and champiñones Al ajillo. The potatoes appeared to be frozen breakfast potatoes that had been fried. They had a bit of sauce on them but no spice at all. The mushrooms were supposed to be sauteed in garlic and olive oil, but were swimming in and only tasted like wine. Couldnt even get any garlic off of it, it JUST tasted like wine. And the mussels were missing the vinegarette. It was just cold mussels with veg. Looking at the pictures and reading reviews on here and Yelp, it seems like inconsistency is common here and it is hit or miss. Unfortunately, it was a miss, for me.
Food was amazing, our server ordered for us and knocked it out of the park.Highly recommend.
$9 for a vodka soda? Which is house vodka and water?$6 Mich Ultra? No.
Staff was nice. Food was terrible. Nothing authentic about the selection. Potatoes were shriveled, mushrooms tasted super basic and watery, paella seemed to be straight out of a can, and the bread was very low quality baguette that was not cooked enough.Could not finish my food. Please find a proper chef and use fresh ingredients if you want to actually reflect the type of food advertised.
Stay away - this was an extremely poor experience. Drinks took over 30 min to be delivered, food was also extremely slow. When the food finally did arrive, it was not cooked well, and we left much of it behind - as it was not worth eating despite the price. Very disappointing given the cool look and nice menu.
We come for every restaurant week because you can try more things and everything is so good. The Beef Cheek is something I never would have ordered before but luckily we gave it a shot. It’s beyond delicious and I recommend it to everyone. Great service and great food.
My husband and I took advantage of the restaurant week deal. It was a very busy night but we snagged seats at the bar. Jennifer, the bartender, was attentive and promptly served us as well as being very personable. The food was wonderful as was the bottle of wine. Abanicos will definitely be in our restaurant rotation.
Made a reservation days in advance. Waited for 45+ min past the reservation time. It was clear the servers were a mess. Plates everywhere and no idea what tables the food was going to. Food was ok. Halfway through the dinner they are breaking down the restaurant to turn into the “club”. Music was blasting and could not hear conversation across the table. Probably could have been avoided if we were seated at the time we asked. Overall very disorganized and not a great experience. Won’t be back.
Im still really upset about this. We havent been on a date night since our 2nd baby was born (9 months ago); went on a few lunch dates while the kids are in daycare. Someone in the family has been sick since Oct, so we havent really had a break from dr visits to getting much sleep. I researched restaurants where I could safely eat, booked a sitter that the baby and toddler both felt comfortable with, and dressed up in fancy clothes. We made early reservations (5 pm) to avoid crowds and get home at a reasonable time. The hostess seated us and we were only the 2nd customers besides a few at the bar. Went over drinks and food options with our server. A few more customers walked in. In the meantime, we received a plate of 6 small (2) pieces of bread. It took over 30 minutes for our drinks to arrive. We are looking around and several of the customers that walked in after us immediately got their drinks and are already eating. Our waitress went MIA on us but was still bringing drinks and food to other tables, all arriving after us. Then, over an hour later, our first tapa (paella) arrives brought by the hostess. I asked how is that we received our food and only 1 of 4 tapas that we ordered after waiting more than 1 hour and after so many other people. She explained that this is repeat issue as it just happened the night before where the kitchen is sending food out not by ticket but by the type of tapa ordered but we saw the paella at 2 other customers tables. Then she mentioned more issues with the bartender. We are beyond starving at this point (only had the bread) and just request our food to brought out as soon as possible as customers that came in after us are leaving. 20 minutes later, only 2 more tapas arrive, in which 1 was overcooked, almost burned and the other was cold. The 1st tapa was delicious by the way. We cancelled the last one as weve been there for 2 hours and Im on the brink of tears. I just wanted to celebrate a night out with my husband. Not only did we waste our time and money at Abanico Tapas Bar, plus times 1 1/2 for the sitter, but it was just so sad thats how our 6th anniversary will be remembered. There are so many other wonderful restaurants in Greenville, celebrate and spend your money elsewhere.
Super quaint restaurant just a block off of Main Street. Our server was amazing and the food was outstanding. We enjoy tapas and this is now a definite go to when we visit Greenville!
The food is superb. Everything was great, but I’m going to suggest you DO NOT LEAVE UNTIL YOUVE HAD THE HAM CROQUETAS! Cost was very reasonable in comparison to other tapas restaurants.
Very crowded and only play Spanish music and forget about ordering drinks youll he waiting all night. But outside of that it is very very fun and if youre an extrovert then youll always meet fun people to talk with.
Service was good but we were the only table on a Thursday night at 7. That was my first clue. The Tapas was very generic and seemed to be nothing very special or with a real Spanish flair to it. For example the meat and cheese board had items that were most likely purchased up the street at Publix. The portions were tiny and just overall very mediocre. I really dont remember all we had and there were 4 of us all getting different things. Thats how unmemorabale it was. Seems they may just serve food in order to have that dance club upstairs. Music is too loud downstairs for eating and conversations, even when early. All around would not ever go back.
Great food and atmo. Highly recommend the beef cheek. The paella was mostly rice. No meat. (One piece of pork in a bowl full.) Not recommended. All in all we had 8 dishes and I would recommend 7 of them.
Absolutely delicious! I lived in Spain for a year and this place brought back so many memories! The Paella, Champiñóns (mushroom is garlic sauce) the Alioli were amazing! My only regret/complaint was not hearing actual Spanish music playing. Would have loved to have heard some some flamenco or Spanish guitar. Maybe next time?
Sat at the bar because it was booked for restaurant week. We ordered several tapas items including potatas bravas, calamari, chicken croquettes, dates, meatballs, and sautéed shrimp . The only disappointment was the meatball dish in marinara, it was bland. Everything else, including the bread with aioli was delicious. Sangria was also good. The bartender was fantastic and she kept our drinks full and food coming.
Really great first time experience. The food was out of this world good. Got lucky that I found a good, reasonably priced, clean fun place for dinner before the concert tonight. I will be back. Thanks Carlos. Hard to pick a favorite. The shrimp was divine and the meatballs, superb.
Awesome establishment. The food was amazing and my 5 year old thoroughly enjoyed it. The empanadas and bombas were incredible. The pineapple jalapeño margarita was amazing! Great experience
Food wise this place is delicious. Authentic Spanish dishes, great services and staff. Definitely will be returning for sure!Club wise (after 10PM)....definitely need a better DJ for Friday nights. Last year after April they had the best music ever on Friday nights and now its just a bore that its practically empty. Saturdays are amazingly fun but so hot inside.
Went here with my friends last night. This place is super nice and fun! They play great music, and everybody is so friendly. Unlike some places, the bouncers were super professional and friendly, good vibes right from the beginningUpstairs is where you can dance and have fun. They have great drinks at the bar. Overall amazing experience, and I can’t recommend it more for anyone visiting Greenville to have a great time out.
Great food that is unique and so delicious. Have to try outside the box food and promise you will not be disappointed. Staff went out of way to ensure we were enjoying the experience. Only slight downside was the entertainment...while very engaging and beautiful dancing the type of dancing that requires multiple heavy stomps was a bit unnerving when directly beside your table. Suggest moving a bit further from dinners for max experience. Manager did provide a free glass of wine realizing that it was a bit overwhelming to be so close but kudos to the perform as it was very beautiful...just a bit close for comfort!
We dined here per request of a friend, and it was the perfect pick. Fortunately for us, they werent very busy likely because it was raining. The staff members were friendly and greeted us with pleasant smiles.Six of us were able to share the portions from each entree (tapas style). There was a special of 5 Tapas for $30. The guys ordered all of the tapas while us gals gabbed. They were all good, but the ones that stopped us in tracks was the Calamari, Ox tails, and Paella. The Paella was the BEST!!!The staff even surprised us with birthday desserts for our friends. Well-done!Atmosphere: mood is great for a date night or intimate group of friends. It is dimly-lit and not a massive restaurant space. The upstairs portion of the restaurant seemed like they were about to turn up as we were getting ready to leave.
Our family enjoyed the “tapas” dining experience. The food was a refreshing change from the standard fare here in Greenville. We will certainly return!
The food was delicious, paella was delightful, steak was wonderful, shrimp was perfect. Can’t wait to come back again soon. I highly recommend you coming by and trying their menu
Big FAIL. The children running the restaurant need training on service and attentiveness. My wife and I came in and felt ignored. One of the items we ordered was cold and very undercooked when we finally got it. I went to cancel my main order and found it wasnt even put in. This was the absolute worst restaurant decision Ive made in a very long time, and the risk you take when going to these pretentious establishments. Be warned. This is a mistake I wont make again.
Great food. Beware this place routinely overcharges. My wife and I had four tapas, the bill was $10.0 more than the menu says. They were slammed, my wife and I normally dont go out to eat during restaurant week, its such a zoo.We had trouble getting the check, so I asked my wife to add up what we had from the menu. I was leaving a 25% plus tip. As we were leaving the waitress went and got our check.Lo and behold the four items we had eaten added up to $10.00 more than the menu. The waitress said they havent updated the menu.If you want to eat somewhere that has good food and have no idea what the bill will be, this is the place for you
Took my parents here to celebrate my dad’s birthday. Our server Cheyenne was fantastic! The food is great and the service as well. Highly recommend
Good selection of tapas! We tried 5 dishes and they were all delicious. Service was a little odd but we were told it was because they were short staffed. The atmosphere is very nice for a date night with roses at tables, Spanish music, and dim lights. Overall I recommend trying this place out as its different than other restaurants in Greenville.
Very disappointed! We had a reservations for 6:00pm and got seated immediately. We got our drinks and appetizers fairly quickly but things went down hill after that. After an hour and a half we still had not received our order. Part of our party had to leave due to having tickets to a play. We informed our waitress and a manager that we would have to leave, not to bring our food out. Ten minutes after we leave they bring all the dishes out, my husband made them return them to the kitchen. My friend and I went to the play hungry and my husband had just ok food. No apologies or explanations were given. First and last time at this restaurant.
Great concept but poorly managed. Our server tried his best. While some lady was taking pictures of drinks our server was handling the whole floor by himself. The ox tail was good and the chorizo as well. The calamari was awful, greasy and maybe bought in a local grocery store. They removed the calamari from the ticket and the manager really didn’t care to much about our horrible experience. Hey owners.... you guys have an awesome concept, but put everyone to work forget about drinks pics during rush hours and improve your food. We will try you guys again in one month. Good luck!!!
Food was great. The atmosphere was a little to loud. The service was horrible. Waitress continually either failed to check on us and when she did she would always forget what we had asked for. The only saving grace of this place has to be the kitchen staff
We ordered paella and several tapas plates to share. We enjoyed all our tapas choices and our salad but felt the paella was flat in flavor compared with others weve eaten. Our service was very good although we had to ask for fresh plates which we usually have had a stack available on our table at other tapas places.
Went for the Restaurant Week Tapas. Service was so good, we had tastes of several wines and wonderful small plates. Beef cheeks is fabulous and the mushrooms, really all of the food and wine. Great experience.
The server was super friendly and nice. The food left a lot to be desired. Were in town for business and love our tapas bar back home so we decided to give it a try. They clearly have never had spanish tapas before. The croquettes had no flavor even with the sauce, the patatas were not really typical patatas bravas. We also got the chorizo a la sidra and it tasted like it ther sausages were old. Wont be recommending this to anyone visiting. The music was also not a Spanish style of music.
I really wanted to like this place but the food, atmosphere, and service fell way short of expectations. Lets start with the atmosphere. The bar, restaurant, and music tag line arent in the order of what we experienced. We were there at 8 PM on a Saturday and it was definitely MUSIC, bar, then restaurant a distant third in order of priority. The music from the nightclub upstairs was way too loud to hold a comfortable conversion in the dining room downstairs. This actually caused a wrong item to be ordered. There was also no greeter which was a little strange for a place that takes reservations. In hindsight, having to show ID to a bouncer to attend your dinner reservation should have been a dead giveaway that this is a nightclub that happens to sell food. Next is the food. Some of what we ordered wasnt available (no big deal, the menu is huge and we ordered around it) but it was still up on the specials board and our server had no idea causing some back and forth with the kitchen. What we did end up deciding on was acceptable sans the paella which had no char and was served on a plate and not a pan (it was more like Spanish rice with mix-ins) and the croquettes which were cold on the inside. Next is the service. We ordered a bottle of wine for the table. They supplied glasses for all but only poured it for only one person. Our food also hit the table before any silverware or individual plates that we had to ask for. This could be excused if they were busy but there was one other table. Our card was also ran for a few dollars more than what the check was, and when questioned, our server had to find out why, and we were told its a credit card surcharge that wasnt previously disclosed. We also had to explain to one of the bartenders what is in a Manhattan. If you are looking for a place to dance the night away, this is probably it, but just dont fall for the restaurant claim like we did.
I had a good time I enjoyed the music and the drinks. The upstairs gets really packed and the security guards didnt seem to care, the upstairs bartender was super slow. Im giving this place one star because as soon as they said they were closing they ran everyone out. I went to the restroom and after being in there for a few minutes the security guards were banging at the bathroom door like crazy people. Which I thought was very unprofessional and rude. Save your money and go to a different bar.
Food was fresh but a little lacking in flavor. The wine was excellent though. Server was very good and the ambiance was nice.
A return visit this year during restaurant week. All five dishes were excellent. Thank you!A delightful dinner during restaurant week. MacKenzie is an excellent server. The Guiso de Garbanzos and the Piquillo de Paella Negra were excellent!
Went here for a st. Patricks day rave (was hardly a rave, but had edm and a mediocre light show at best) people were super friendly and one of the two bartenders were super nice and very quick with getting me drinks and remembering my order. The other not so much. Super pricey though, like ridiculously expensive, over 100$ for my 4 whiskey cokes and 3 car bombs. Sound system was way too loud for the space. A better system with lower volume and bigger subwoofers to hit the lower decible bass tones would make a world of difference.
Can’t believe we just found this place! Authentic Latin food, flavorful, fresh, friendly service. A must try, seafood paella with large shrimp, lobster tail, clams and mussels, pork tomato sauce, bread and that dip! What is that dip?? I can go on.. Amazing strawberry, jalapeño margarita. Try it!
Great service, great food, great sangria! We had a perfect evening! The Brussels sprouts, patatas bravas, croquettes, and pallella were all amazing! And that chocolate cake was heavenly 🤤 definitely will be going back!
Food was authentic and well seasoned. You will wait for dishes to arrive at your table, but thats because its being prepared fresh to order. Staff is friendly and personable. Nice night out 😊
Food was good, not great - but buyer beware, they charged my card again the following day.UPDATE 7/30 - One week later and still no action taken. They ignore my calls and emails, and seem pretty content to steal CC info. Not worth the $20 they took to keep hassling them. Now you know.
Our group bought a bottle of champagne, a few drinks. After awhile I went to ask for water. Was toldWater in a cup or water In a bottle, is $2.00 eachDidnt feel like arguing so I asked for bottles then. When people are trying to drink responsibility after spending $$ for alcohol at your establishment, it is absurd to charge for water in a cup (or not legal?)Will not be back.
Went here with a friend and we loved everything about this place! The service was exceptional. We tried 3 tapas and a couple of wines, and everything was absolutely delicious! Portions are generous. I will definitely be coming back to this place, and I highly suggest it!
Wonderful date night with my hubby! Having traveled extensively in Spain, I can vouch for the authenticity of the tapas. The Octopus, Garbanzo and Sausage and the Seafood Paella were all delicious; not to mention the Jamon and Cheese plate! Highly recommend this laid back, high quality food restaurant in downtown Greenville. Liz, our server was The Best!
We had a wonderful meal with friends during restaurant week. The beef cheeks, crab & shrimp salad, and tortilla were great. We will visit again.
Had dinner here during restaurant week in Greenville. The food was good but not incredible - the small plates all came out quickly. Too quickly... They were barely warm and it seems like stuff was being reheated. Ill give them another try. The sangria was ok, but like the food, not the best Ive had by a long shot.
Amazing experience. The food was authentic, atmosphere was romantic and the owner as well as staff were helpful and genuine. First experience but it won’t be my last! As a restaurant general manager amazing guest service is super important you can’t beat it! Please support them and spread the word.
I was so excited to try this restaurant! Greenville has some great spots, but theres A LOT of repetition. Abanico exceeded my expectations for an authentic SPAINish meal! I have had the real deal before. Now I can have the real deal without bribing a friend to cook for me or traveling! The textures in SPAINish food are important and tricky. The rice, squid, and calamari are done RIGHT. The flavors are on point! They. Use. Seasonings. Spices. Herbs. Chef Heather doesnt rely on salt to make her food taste great! The fried stuff isnt greasy! The desserts are decadent (you might need to get the chocolate torte to go so you can be alone with it). Im not a big fan of eggplant, but I ate half of my husbands side of it!I already know what Im ordering next time. Wednesday is BOGO PAELLA DAY, and Im getting the Valencia paella... The next time Im getting the oxtail croquettes!
The tapas are a wonderful selection of true Spanish offerings. These aren’t the Spanish names for these dishes but the Stuffed mushrooms, Spanish salad, Stuffed chicken, shrimp skewers, Calamari— all amazing. Ambiance is wonderful replete with Spanish guitar music. Oh, and, Sangria Blanco is perfect summer drink! We love this place!
Five stars for location but ZERO and terrible about the menu. The food is awful. Iberico ham is not the real burgundy- sweet buttery flavor. The taste of Fabada was terrible and cheaply made. I have been in Spain many times!
The food is delicious, but the service is really bad. (Apparently theyre recently under new management?)The server kept putting most of the food in front of me, even though the small table made this awkward, and even though my friend was reaching for the food he had ordered. The servers knew basically nothing about the wine, they could only tell me which ones were the most popular (spoiler alert: the higher priced ones!).They persisted in referring to the dishes by the Portugese names, even though we had used the name of the predominant ingredient in the dish to order. This was especially frustrating when there was an issue with splitting the check. (Side note: Im open to learning Portugese, but its challenging when Im drinking wine and the menu has been taken away.)Speaking of the check, when I asked to split it the server asked, do you want that split two ways? (Huh? Theres only 2 of us!) I said we wanted to each pay for the things we had ordered. She split the check into equal amounts. 15 minutes and 5 perplexed questions later, she finally got our checks right.
Ay caramba! These tapas are authentic - considering the chef is from Spain, this should not come as a surprise, but he managed to preserve the flavors and tastes to the dishes he prepares. Great! Our waitress was very friendly, enjoyed a good talk. Only thing missing is the sound of the waves at the shores of the beach while watching the sunset...
…. Was told we could seat ourselves after standing at the entranceway for 5 minutes . Sat ourselves at the bar only to find out that the minute the DJ starts playing upstairs the kitchen was closed . Probably within the 5 min we waited . Wanted a drink , but were offered two small plastic cups due to safety concerns for an anticipated “rowdy” crowd . Meanwhile , others were sold countless long neck glass beer bottles . Barkeeper told us , well , I can’t put beer in a plastic cup ? …. We were looking forward to their food week special . They acted as if they’d never heard of it …. Anyway ….. service appeared poorly informed and not professional . We will not be back - ever. Not to mention there were 3 police cars parked outside of the restaurant (really a club) .
Really enjoyed Albanico’s restaurant week. We split 10 Tapas between 4 of us. It was great sampling all the different foods.
Absolutely incredible food. Almost everything we had was a 10 of 10, and the pork cheek in wine sauce is one of the best dishes I’ve had in my life, the meatballs were also unbelievable. I could not recommend this place more highly.
Great food. Service and experience!
We loved everything we ordered at Abanico. I was so excited to find authentic tapas in the U.S.! I especially loved the Brussels sprouts!
I went for a romantic date to Abanico, loved the food and ambiance. I tried a plate with octopus I cant remember the name but it was so delicious and the octopus was so soft it melted on my mouth. What made it more special was the set up of the table, a red rose in the middle of the table really set the mood.
Everyone enjoyed the food. Come here for a snack if you have half a day to wait. Be prepared for them to add on a fairly generous tip without notice. I doubt I have enough time in my schedule to ever go back.
Horrible service. Made a reservation for 8:15 and didn’t get any food until 10:00. They served us canned mushrooms and didn’t give exactly what we ordered because they kept running out of food. Service was extremely terrible and slow. This place clearly does not care about their customers. When we tried speaking to the manager, she told us it was too late to complain. Avoid it at all costs!
Amazing!!!Wander off the Main Street strip to this cultural gem. Carlos at the bar will guide you through your selections and you will allow you to step outside of your typical pics. Start with the bread and aioli it’s heavenly!!!
Delicious food and delicious drinks!! Our favorite new hangout! The owners are super personable and we were super impressed with our tapas. We will definitely be back and bring our friends!!
My friend and I had a great time partying it up on a Saturday night here. She mentioned how much she loved the range and diversity of people. The music was also a great mix. We would definitely return.
Great atmosphere, AMAZING food. The server was very friendly and knowledgeable. We went there for my birthday and I couldn’t think of a better place to spend my special occasion. Highly recommended.
Sangria was wonderful, however the food was very mediocre and just bland to all of us. Not even close to the tapas we had in Spain.
Great, attentive service. One of the best octopus dishes Ive ever had. Oxtails were great too. Nice spot for a date, just off Main St.
I had a really great time until I got in my uber and realized that my wallet was missing out of my purse that I handed the female bartender to sit behind the bar because I was a little bit tipsy. I called immediately after I left. They shut down quickly, next day Im there when they open. The manager was rude, if I didnt enjoy my freedom I would have gone to jail. They dont have a working camera system, I knew this because the police told me when I talked to them but they made a big show about looking at cameras. When I told him I talked to the police and made a report. He immediately said he couldnt talk to me any further we would have to sue him. In my wallet is my ID my cards my cash. I feel like I was targeted because I spent a lot of money between drinks and tips. He said sue so I am, win lose or draw the whole world will know what type of business is being run in downtown Greenville SC.
Excellent tapas.. Small sharable plates... We went for restaurant week and it was excellent. Everyone liked what they got. A good selection of vegetarian options. Wine and beer and well as liquor. Overall... Excellent!
Superb. A menu that is unique in the Upstate. The setting is comfortable and stylish. The service is extremely attentive.
Amazing food and amazing service! Thanks to our server MC. She was fantastic! Will definitely return soon!
Our bill was 150 and something and the restaurant still wanted to nickel and dime us for using a credit card charging 3%. You would think after you spend a certain amount they will appreciate your business.
Abby was amazing! She was super knowledgeable about the menu and was very attentive! The food is also amazing! Great for date night
Horrible service. Truly haven’t been treated so poorly at a restaurant in as long as I can remember. 2 stars because the food and drinks were good, once they finally came out. Wouldn’t set foot in this place again after the rude, dismissive, and condescending treatment from the staff.
The food is FANTASTIC. Service was also very good. The upstairs turns into a nightclub after 9 or so on weekends, but you can still eat downstairs.
Went for restaurant week and the portions were small but costly.
This place was phenomenal - the pork beef was literally the best bite I’ve had in a long time. Very foodie chef and it shows in his plates - I want a platter and a ladle 😍 super cute atmosphere and the staff are super friendly!
The food and service... both amazing!
Empanadas, wine, sangria and service all great. Avoid calamari: overly rubbery and not very tasty
Food is excellent. We have been there twice now and no disappointments yet. Portions for tapas are good, so be careful of over ordering.
El Abanico has a lot of great choices, but I was left with a couple disappointments. First, I’d like to say the croquettes are delicious along with the berenjena, calamari, tortilla, and patatas bravas. The only two things I wouldn’t order is the excruciatingly small portion of pulpo (octopus) and the falsely advertised jamón ibérico. The jamón isn’t ibérico, but just a low quality Serrano ham that can be bought at Aldi, same with the queso de cabra that accompanies it. Other than that it’s pretty good.
Awesome sangria and great tapas. Paella is excellent here. Wonderful as always. The food the service are great. We keep coming back everytime were in town.
Absolutely delicious!! We happened upon this place by recommendation from locals on the street. Such incredible hospitality, drink & food! Highly recommend!!
Food and service were good but I have one huge turnoff. When you surcharge for paying with a credit card, thats a huge turnoff. Its the cost of doing business. Will not go back.
The Tapas were delicious! Price is reasonable and the service I received was fantastic! I would recommend the 5 Tapas and get ready to order double of that because they were great!
Very clean and friendly. The food was excellent. There is great dance music later in the evening that is quite loud so keep that in mind.
One of the best meals weve had in Greenville. Hidden gem! Delicious tapas- great value. Can’t wait to come back.
Terrible Spanish tapas, no authentic at all. The ham and cheese is the only tapas that are authentic but you can find it at the supermarket. Dont waste you tme and money. Service was not professional for a restaurant.
From the quality of service to the incredible food, this place is a diamond in the rough of chains and restaurant conglomerates in downtown Greenville. Were sad we didnt try it sooner.
Food was amazing! Our server, Alex, did a great job and was so sweet!
Nice menu, prompt service, fair selection. Nice to have tapas available.
Food and drinks overpriced. Was told I had to pay $20 for a cover fee. I ended up leaving and going to Smileys acoustic Cafe. Will not go back.
Gorgeous atmosphere and great food! (I even got chef to make me a whole tortilla espanola to have breakfast all week!!).
Great Latin dance club! They played all the reggaeton classics which we loved.
My favorite place to eat in Greenville. Great service, great food, and when the upstairs is open for the club the vibes are amazing! Definitely recommend giving this place a try!
Beutifull place but the vip is expense
Everything is delicious! Tapas are perfect to share with friends! The atmosphere is nice and perfect for dancing the night away!
I’ll give this one place a 1 star. If you guys every go here make sure you bring cash. I swiped my card for 1 beer and they “System” charged me 4 times and charged me the wrong amount. This place is never Getting my service again
Food is amazing !! Service is great. Its a restaurant during the day and club at night !!
Great Tapas restaurant and bar in downtown Greenville. Service was great and they have a great menu. Food and sangrias were awesome.
Great food for restaurant week and amazing service with our server Alex. 5/5 do recommend 👍🏽
The food was stellar, and so was the house made sangria. Abby was fantastic and personable.
Great taste of Spain, really good atmosphere and good variety of Tapas. The Sangria was really good.
The best tapas in Greenville sc
The food is always outstanding... The service not as good as the food but soooo much better and friendlier than the last time we were thereGlad we gave it a second try!!!
We love this place. The food is really amazing and the staff are super.
Great food, great service
Not the best service... took waitress over 15 minutes to bring silverware. Lucky for me the barback helped step in. Decent tapas
Good food and nice atmosphere
Great service. Comfortable atmosphere. Loved the jello shots. Will be back
Good food
Being Spanish, I give high praise to the authenticity of the tapas. Like a trip to Spain. The wines are overpriced though.
Delicious food, great service, and wonderful atmosphere. Must try their amazing chicken croquettes!!
Will return for dinner, attended a night event on the second floor “great music” good DJ
It is good, they have Latino music and regueton, for dance is cool
Food was ok but portions are too small not worth it
Really nice atmosphere and delicious food. Also, a great place for a dancing night!
The food was fantastic. I was shocked how tender the octopus was. I will definitely be back.
Awesome staff! Juan and Christian are guys who take pride in what they do and their customer experience makes me want to go back.
They double charged my card 😳😡🤬 I went from lik3 84 85 to 106 smh watch your card activities after eating here
We had Abby as our server and she was great!
Fantastic food and a wonderful welcoming staff! This is for sure my new favorite spot in greenville!
Wonderful food and Great service. I will be back. Wine is a bargain.
Good music and customer service... Dj NY and DJ Jam be hitting hard on the mixes... Had fun and thank you guys for everything...
Don’t go here if you are wearing casual wear. They will deny your entrance. This was on Halloween and we were wearing costumes. Treated with disrespect!
Delicious tapas and spanish wines. Excellent personal service!
Excellent food. Great service. Extremely clean!
Abby was absolutely amazing!! Loved the food and the wine!
They need to update their DJ. It’s an Hispanic club. They need to play Spanish music.
ABSOLUTELY amazing.. Step out of you comfort zone.. Its a wonderful time and meal
Worst Food EverNever going backNever ever go hereSave your moneyX
People 5 star. Food very good. Flan burned
We really like tapas, & liked the variety. Everything we tried was delicious!
No amount of good food is worth the complete lack of service. Three strikes. Were not going back.
Delicious food and wonderful service! Cant wait to go back!
Tried some new flavors. It was fantastic. Highly recommend.
Get the sangria. White. By the pitcher. That one drink is already worth 4 stars.
Totally delicious, made with great blend of seasonings.
First visit, but we’ll definitely go again!
Best latino club in downtown and no cover to get in.
Great tapas, good beer selection and friendly service
