Boardners might be my all-time favorite bar in all of LA! Service is always incredible! During the day, you can have a chill bar spot with good eats, and lots of amazing Hollywood history to learn from the bartenders. At night, its never shoulder -to-shoulder, but always happening. Then on Wednesday and Saturday their next-door bar has a super amazing goth club happening! Seriously, a must see for anyone visiting. Check out the history beforehand to get familiar with all the ghost stories! I have a few myself 🙃
Cool place, operates under different names on different days of the week (eg: Bar Sinister on Saturdays). Staff is very particular about checking ID, Vaccination Proof & keeping your mask on - so makes you feel safe inside. Drinks are decently priced & generous pours. Bands playing here are very fun to watch. Decor is always spot on. They have an indoor-outdoor space as well as a smaller upper floor space. Visited a few times now and each time has been a fun experience. Keep it up guys! See you next time 😀
I went to this club and things went pretty well most of the night until a girl tried to steal a young man’s wallet. When the man and his group of friends tried to get the wallet back a fight broke out between them. As the bouncers tried to diffuse the situation they sprayed pepper spray into the eyes of the two men who were being stollen from and also on about 8 other people. The pepper spray then got into the eyes and noses of all the other guests in the club. My friends and I had to help others evacuate the club while the bouncers threw the two men out. No aid was provided to the bystanders who were hit and many kids didn’t know what to do. After the initial incident the two men were justifiably upset as they could not open their eyes or breathe. We were able to get milk and pour it into their eyes and the bouncers of the club told us we needed to move them down the street because they didn’t want them in front of the building. This incident was insane to say the least and it was incredibly dangerous and painful for many guests. Not to mention the boy did not get his wallet back but instead was threatened by the club. Security needs to learn how to better diffuse a situation and not immediately turn to violence, especially when it concerns young black men.
There is an old famous restaurant close by that my wife and friends enjoy. After dinner this is our go-to place. We enjoy the atmosphere, and the staff have always been pleasant. Also a fun place to people watch.
Writing this review late, but I did attend a Club Decades event on 1/6/23 and I havent been back since. Im glad that others have already talked about what Im about to say too. The bouncers here are the worst type of people imaginable. Theyre rude, extremely unprofessional, and power trip. I can still remember coming here for the first and only time. They get passive-aggressive with you over asking about simple yes/no questions. Clearly they hate working there and hate people even more. I could also see that they were giving others a hard time in line too. This place probably hires them only because theyre cheap or something because they definitely spoiled the image of the club before I even went in. One was kind enough to pass out fliers for his social media (mixtape) handles in line... I promise you no one cares. Sorry for the others that have dealt with these guys. I share your sentiment. I know bouncers are tough people and enforce the rules, but these guys just suck and probably miserable sacks themselves. The club itself was alright, nothing special. Drinks are expensive, its Hollywood. Ambience wasnt anything special either.
My suggestion: Dont expect to be respected at this bar. Today, May 7, I went to this place to look for my credit card that I accidentally left there yesterday after stopping for a drink and snack with my wife. Id asked to close out, but the bartender never brought the check and we left without realizing it. I called them as soon as I got home, and the person I talked to said I could pick it up the next day after 5pm. The bartender asked me to wait. I waited 10-15 minutes. She told me that she was busy and that I should wait at least 20 minutes more to receive my card. When I tried to (nicely) to convey Id already been waiting a long time and had parked my car in a spot with a time limit, she told me, you have to wait because its your fault that you left the card. Zero manners, zero customer service. She even pointed me out to the barback and told him to ignore me! Of course Im not going back to this place unless someone tells me that this bartender no longer works there. Btw, I want to stress to the manager/owner of this place that this was the worst customer experience Ive ever received in my three years living in LA.
TWO toilets. TWO. on each side of the bar. For a HUGE crowd of girls. I’ll keep posting one-star reviews until this is illegal. You want to spend half your night waiting for the bathroom? Come here! Oh and it’s disgusting! They can’t even bother to hire a bathroom attendant! I wish this place had more toilets, it could be a great place.
Echoing others’ statements about the bouncers here - I was physically grabbed by a bouncer and kicked out, by myself without the rest of my group, while not being told what I did wrong or having a single word spoken to me. This was after I had ordered one drink and was dancing with a small group of friends, so not quite sure what I did wrong here. Shame because the venue is beautiful and there’s some great performers here, but having a security team that will kick out women by themselves onto Hollywood Blvd. at night for dancing, while I’ve had friends groped and upskirted by men who face no consequences, makes it a very unsafe environment.
The bouncers here are SUPER disrespectful and rude. (specifically the taller dude with dreads) you ask one simple yes or no question or ask for more clarification and he get passive aggressive.. once you call him out on his rude and disrespectful behavior he degrades the hell of out you/your friends. he makes everyone in line uncomfortable and nervous just for waiting in line for a good time. he was talking like this to almost everybody in line. the other 2 bouncers just stand behind him because they’re too afraid to speak up even though he is clearly in the wrong. i’ve came to this spot several times and he is ALWAYS like this, so its not just a “bad day” he’s just a bad guy. the staff here are way too disrespectful and need to get off their power trip. go home and relax before you decide to have a bad day and ruin everyone else’s experience. i hate my job too but if you cant deal with seeing 100+ people a day, then why work at a night club???
COPS at the door for blue monday’s won’t let you in if your ID is expired. Even if you’re clearly over 18. Freaks! Don’t come here.
Great food for a bar. Lots of options for dietary needs. Great staff and fun environment!
Hate seeing my money being wasted at a place that surely doesnt deserve it. My friend couldnt get in because he lost his ID. He provided a birth certificate, SSN, everything he could but couldnt get in, which sucks but that part is honestly fair since those things technically are not valid. However, what makes me mad, even the next day was how we were treated. The bouncers seemed to get a real kick out of us not being able to get in. My friend and I pre-paid (never doing this again) and we couldnt get our money back when we decided not to go in. Again, arguably fair, but they werent sympathetic at all. It was like they couldnt wait to tell us there was no way we would get our money back. Very upset I wasted money, so Id like to even out my financial support by sharing my unpleasant experience. There are plenty of places in LA, wouldnt recommend this one unless youre 18 and have no where else to go. Also heard the music from outside, not very good.
Liked this place, gone many times. Just didn’t like the lady with the mini bangs charging for entry last night. Asked her a few questions— passive aggressive responses. Killed my vibe, decided not to enter that day.
A dimly lit divey kind of bar with a local feel. It feels like the ghosts of Hollywood stars keep the place buzzing in a good way. The bar service isnt bad, but can get kind of slow. The food is actually good and the happy hour is one of the best in Hollywood. With $5 bites, you can legit try and share everything! The portions are enough to share or can be enjoyed solo. I suggest Sharing so you can have a variety.Things to try:chicken strips (come with fries, bonus!)RibsNachos (Sorry, I ate them before I could get a pic)The bar selection is really nice too! Lots of whiskey and tequila brands. They also sell champs by the glass, but it isnt that great.
I come here a lot and like, I used to think the music wasn’t that bad, then I realized they just played the same songs in a different order lol. So I came on a whim, on (09/01) and I’m so incredibly disappointed, it’s actually so sad to see this place fall so far idk who was on aux but plz never hire them again :/(whoever this guy is)
Super cool vintage bar with delicious cocktails and very friendly service, will be back for sure
Happy they are open! Everything looks spaced out and they enforce masks when you walk around which is good. This is just my OCD, but I feel like the bartender is handling money or credit cards and then touches garnishes, lemons, and cherries with his hands and it just grosses me out. Lol so thats probably just my 2 cents.Other than that, its pretty chill and the drinks are decent.I miss it here for sure. So I am happen that they are open.
Great food and service. Been going to the club for over 15 years. Its a place I frequent at least 3-4 nights a week. They have some great themed nights ranging from 80s to 2000s to goth and industrial. Definitely a must if you are in the area.
Rude bouncers/security staff on club nights. No air conditioning on hot nights. Smoking tolerated indoors and out; not a good place for people that dislike cigarette smoke.
Great bar! kind of like the slightly sleazier & rougher around the edges sister bar to Musso & Franks which is across the road. Both have great appeal M&F is like posh Hollywood & boardners is like a more down to earth bar but you should definitely visit both if in the area. Our server here was very friendly & thoroughly enjoyed my visit here, will definitely have a beer here next time I’m in town.
Was soooo excited to come here!! one of my favorite spots in Hollywood..musoca was great the atmosphere as always great! The only thing that was a jaw dropper were the price for drinks!! Way over priced! 2 beers and a shot almost 40 bucks plus tip? Yeah not worth it...when i go back i am definitely gonna pre-drink, i have the money but not to throw away on a $10beer that cost 2 bucks elsewhere.
Bar Sinister! Iconic LA fun the you can wear your Black Leather, Latex and Dark eye makeup out to! Oh, our bartender was awesome!
Of all the bars in Hollywood, this is my absolute favorite. The best old fashioned around with the best menu and most welcoming, friendliest folks serving spirits, I cannot recommend Boardners more. Patio seating is available at the moment but I admit I am eager to sit along the indoor bar again. Talk about old Hollywood ambiance, Boardners is all about it.
Ive been coming to this bar well since the late 80s and still visit every now and again. Its a cozy spot to have a drink or two or three....crowd is pretty mixed, nice vibe, cool deco decor. Just left of the entrance ( if you were walking in) is the entrance to the club side which has different clubs different nights of the week (Bar Sinister and Blue Mondays are / were awesome). Its a chill place with lots of history.
My favorite pre-game place before bar sinister or any other club in Hollywood. Great spot if youre going for a more relaxed night, this place is it. Great movies are always on the TV screens, low music so you can actually have a conversation. Great happy hour deals too!
This is the last true Dive Bar in Hollywood and when I say dive you bet it is. Its a real dump you got to cast a characters at the bar and its always a gamble not knowing whats going to happen next. They have theme nights like golf night and live music as well. Dont go there looking to be impressed go there for $5 beers and cheap wells.
Great vibes and unique layout. Definitely recommend for 90s/80s themed nights
I drive Uber often and for the experience of shepherding folks from and to places and I had often dropped interesting people off at Boardners over the last few monthsand because I live close, I starred it with the hopes of checking it out at some point.I had the opportunity NYE where I went solo and danced in 3 different rooms with 3 different vibes amongst characters from all over the city and it was more than what I had hoped for.I can’t really speak to the drink prices as I only had PBR despite still being on the pricey side at $7/each, but the atmosphere, the music, and the staff were all recommendable to folks interested in this place.
Great experience. I had a little too much to drink but lucky for me the driving crooner car service was nearby to get me home.
On October 27th, a group of friends and I attended a special event called Club Decades at this establishment for their Halloween event. My group experienced discrimination and was unjustly denied entry on the basis of unfounded allegations. They claimed our friend was drinking in line when she wasnt. We asked for proof and the bouncers just laughed. In contrast, we observed the venues security staff permitting individuals with open alcohol containers and drug paraphernalia to enter the event. Furthermore, the entrance area was marred by empty alcohol containers. I personally overheard one of the bouncers, identified as Zeke, who is African American, acknowledging an individuals possession of cocaine paraphernalia, yet they were still granted entry. Our group believes that we were singled out due to our gender and age, and the bouncers declined to disclose their identities.I hope the venues management to investigate their adherence to their own policies and those of the state of California. The behavior of the bouncers at this establishment is both misogynistic and unprofessional. I would strongly advise anyone contemplating a visit to this venue to consider spending their money elsewhere. After reading these other reviews on google and mainly on yelp, these bouncers and security guards have a long history of discrimination, misogyny, aggressiveness, and a major power trip. With all of these other reviews similar to mind, I m surprised they havent been sued yet.
Security guards are awful, specifically Zee who is apparently the manager. He has the most awful judgment I’ve ever seen (for example, leaving girls who aren’t even of age to drink, alone outside and inside the club knowingly; see below). He gets in your face and bans you whenever he feels like it for doing absolutely nothing. They dragged me (20 yr old girl) out physically (which they have no right to do and is very unprofessional, they cannot legally put hands on you unless they call the cops) for holding my friends drink while he wanted to dance more freely, which I can understand as I’m underage, but they didn’t give me the chance to comply, just dragged me. Then proceeded to tell me I wasn’t allowed to find my friend I came with who was alone with a guy she didn’t know. I had a panic attack and they said I wasn’t allowed back for two months. No sympathy for what can happen to girls alone inside the club or for any sort of mental health issues/disabilities. Also, my phone and loads of others get stolen here and staff must be in on it to be still coming back empty handed/ not putting any cameras up. The owner needs to hire all new staff. None of these problems have resolved and there have been complaints for YEARS. This could be easily resolved with new staff who don’t abuse the little power they are given! horrible judgement in management. I don’t know how that Manager could’ve slipped the radar when he’s constantly lying to get his way and uses the owners misplaced trust in him to get away with it. Considering legal action, let me know if anyone has any experiences to add. Very unsafe especially as a woman :(
Old hole in the wall feel in the heart of Hollywood, always love to visit when I’m in So Ca. Great atmosphere and good food. Wish I could get their mac and cheese where I live.
I’m making an official complaint against venue/event organizer. My group was discriminated against and denied entry based on false accusations. Meanwhile, we witnessed the bouncers for the venue allow individuals into the event who had open alcohol containers and drug paraphernalia. Empty alcohol containers were littered throughout the entrance line. I witnessed one of the bouncers verbally admitting to knowing an individual was carrying cocaine paraphernalia on their person, yet they were still granted entry. This bouncers name is “Zeke”. We believe our group was targeted based on our gender/age and bouncers refused to identify themselves. I would urge venue management to investigate their compliance with their own policies and the state of California. Bouncers at this venue are misogynistic and unprofessional. Would highly recommend anyone considering going here to choose a different place to spend your money.
My wife and I attended Wenzdays Party and had such a great time. The staff running the event were fantastic and the music was great. The decor and atmosphere were awesome!
Horrible staff. honestly surprised nobody has taken legal action. they were rude and clearly having a power trip. will not be coming back.
Boardners is a Hollywood gem! Its vintage vibe, moody lighting, and live music create a unique atmosphere. The cocktails are inventive, and the food is delicious. Its a top-notch spot for a night out, offering a memorable blend of history and modern entertainment.
Easy great place to drink and sing along …
Favorite bar, great drinks, chill sultry vibe, typically not too crowded as I manage to get a seat at the bar almost every time I go there. Great and kind service.
The place itself is awesome, love the vibe overall! i’ve been a few times and have never had a problem. however, last night the security guards working at the front entrance to ID people were completely rude and out of line. i was actually in disbelief by the way one of the men spoke to my boyfriend and i. boardners, please tell ur staff to be nicer!
To the guy who didn’t let me in because of my tank top ( there were 6 other guys who were wearing a black top, showing more than I was) why was, literally showing bellybutton but the only persons not let in was me? You said it was because of a guy last week in a tank, yet you let 6 other people go but me?) make it make sense. Then to the black guy who was with him, you did not have to be aggressive because I took off my T-shirt and left with the tank, if you were uncomfortable that’s your problem not mine, you made me feel uncomfortable the whole night, I have 6 witnesses and even they thought your behavior was unacceptable.Club Blue Mondays pick your employees better, because these men ain’t it.
They wouldnt let me in because I wasnt wearing all black. The guy at the door pointed at a sign that read, Gothic attire only. Took my nephew here because he just flew in from Denver Colorado. After reviewing their pics, I noticed many people not wearing all black. Wonder why I was discriminated against?
What a let down. Heard nothing but great things about this place… Went in at 5:30pm tonight. It was barely full. Sat down and sat at the table over 10 minutes and watched the waiter walk pass us multiple times and never acknowledged us. Not once. It was like we went even there. At the 15 minute mark we got up and walked out and no one said a word to us, not even the doorman.Bye. Won’t be back.***Thank for the reply - again, it was our first time - it would have been GREAT it staff used CUSTOMER SERVICE and informed us of ORDERING AT THE BAR FIRST! Just because the sign says order here, that could be mistaken for bar customers only. Glad we went to Frank and Musso.
Great experience 😃 felt very comfortable, friendly staff excellent service. 😁
Very chill, moody spot. We usually stop here for a drink before heading into the goth parties next door. They have some excellent wines available for reasonable prices, but beers are very over priced considering theyre just bottles from a fridge. Some of the cocktails are gross, avoid the sparkling wine cocktails.
Really cute spot. Makes getting a drink with your friends an experience. Amazing food! Probably the best, crispiest chicken tenders Ive ever eaten and my friends pasta was equally delicious. Drinks were good and the service was prompt and courteous. The courtyard was well decorated and a very pleasant place to spend an hour or two. Overall, a highlight of my visit to LA.
Best alternative club in town! Live performances on Fridays! Patio for the kids and indoors it’s goth/dark wave/ alternative. People of all ages. Hit up a dancer or photographer for discounted entry. Great bouncer and security keep you safe and the riff raff out!
Got a spark to get out of the house. Drive up to Hollywood looking for whats good? Parked and found this place. I didnt want to hit a spot that was packed, worked out great. Walked into an upbeat atmosphere. Which heightened my experience. The decor is unique which is great. Grabbed a few makers and cokes. Couldnt help but try the mac. Definitely a fill! Drinks were good! As I say with a pleasant smile. Interesting in seeing it when covid is over
The venue is really cool and i love that there’s always good music. My advice is that you DON’T USE THE COAT CHECK. The woman doesn’t really take care of the coats that are placed in a way that people can see them and take them. I guess it was my fault for having faith in humanity but someone stole my jacket and the woman tried to tell us that our ticket was old or something. She gave us that ticket, told us to take a photo in case we lost it, and then acted like we didn’t have the right ticket. Even if i had the wrong ticket my black faux fur jacket wasn’t there, so her argument made no sense. It was my favorite jacket and it doesn’t even exist online or at the store i bought it from anymore. And i can’t even afford to buy a new one. An amazing night was ruined by this incident.
Always amazing! Definitely try the ribs and the mac & Cheese!! Great price, and big portions! They have a nightclub attached next door featuring different scenes depending on the night of week. And an area within the club thats open roof and has a stage for live bands
If youre going to one of the goth nights-- Wednesday or Saturday, there is a dresscode. Dont go if that bothers you. Not everyone wants to look at people wearing slippers and pajamas.
They have a Photo Booth, it took my money and gave me no picture, no number to call the booth people at. When I asked a staff member about it he said I wouldn’t get charged and I did, I knew that would happen so when I asked him what if I do what do I need to do then he said email the club. I emailed the club weeks ago three days after th attended and they still haven’t contacted me at all.
Great and fun place! It’s layed out beautifully and the interior design was cool too. The staff was friendly and fun. The atmosphere was great too and the drinks were decently priced and strong
Been enjoying going here for many years when I lived in Hollywood. But, I moved away 10 years ago...I was super happy to find that everything felt the same there. I will always recommend this spot to friends visiting this area.
Loving this place where I used to come some decades ago but they’ve upgraded their very awesome tunes, food, etc since I was here once upon a time or two;)Will be coming back soon w family and friends since I know that it has expanded a very nice patio, more options but with the same charm and comfort. So glad that they actually play music that I can really enjoy!Music is EVERY THING!
Kicked us out for wearing white shoes even though they don’t have their dress code posted anywhere and to be completely honest … who cares about anyones shoes ??? So ridiculous. If you care that much at least let the public know your policies. Will never be returning. Staff was rude and people just want to have a good time on the weekends. Thanks for ruining that!
Wow!!! What a fun, fun place. DJ Venus is awesome!!
This is my wifes favorite bar in Hollywood. It has a good old Hollywood vibe. It has a great extended happy hour and the best Mac n Cheese around. There other food items on the happy hour menu are also tasty. They have strong mixed drinks and a few but good beer selections on their happy hour menu.
Severely disappointed with the space and entertainment provided for the night. Its very possible I went on an off night, because Ive heard decent things about this place, so I am open to going again. However, the experience I had was very lackluster. The crowd / company does not play a factor in my review.Off the bat, upon entry, she said it was $20, and after giving my credit card, I was signing for ~$23. I get it, credit card fee, but you need to mention that. Anyway its unnecessary because it was through Square. The main dance floor was so packed you couldnt even move, and the sound system was terrible. The secondary one had some room to move around and the music was better, but the sound system was even worse.I did like the second floor by the main stage, it had decent couches and space to relax. Every time I wanted to sit, I was able to grab a seat with me and my buddy, which was nice. Also, I met some girls, one of whom lost her wallet. After frantically asking around at the bar, it managed to turn up a couple minutes later, with everything intact. So that was nice. Yeah the bartender was a bit jerky at first too, although she seemed happy when she received it and was able to give it to us.It wasnt the night that was bad, really just the venue. I went on College Fridays, but Ive heard great things about Bar Sinister.Hoping thatll be better!
The bar had Halloween decorations up, which although well done probably detracted from the art deco charm of the place. A/C was not working on a very hot day which seriously detracted from the ambiance.Service was great, the all-day happy hour prices on Monday were the right price - $4 for Lagunitas IPA and Blue Moons (as well as others), and the food was decent. Keep in mind that the happy hour appetizers are smaller portions and therefore not necessarily the screaming deal you might expect. All in all, I dont spend a lot of time in Hollywood but it is a very good choice. I will return - but probably not on a hot day.
Theyve got alot of space compared to your typical dive bar. Good selection of beers and liquor. A full size pool table. Food in the back with a back patio. Usually a pretty good crowd in here on the weekends. Not completely packed so you cant get a drink, but enough people around for a fun atmosphere.
So glad this venue has opened its hearts and its doors to my friends/family to play their hearts out and pair them with folks I havent heard before. The staff has been excellent and for Hollywood its well priced, especially if youre polite ;)(they dont overpour but they dont skimp either), bring a smile, tip your bartenders and be ready to dance!!
Came down to Boarders for food before attending the connected nightclub, Bar Sinister which I have attended for many years. I had never eaten there before and didnt necessarily expect anything exceptional, so was really surprised by the spectacular quality if the food I enjoyed there!!! I ordered the cod fish tacos & was utterly blown away by how good they were!!! They may have been the best fish tacos I have eaten anywhere!!! They came with a cilantro salsa and, with an additional light dousing of the hot sauce that was presented by my bar tender, I quickly found myself in a state if sublime, culinary bliss!!! Just wonderful!!! From this point forward, when I plan on coming to Bar Sinister, I will make a point of planning to have dinner here before attending the club whenever possible!!! 😊
I have been coming here on Saturday Night for Bar Sinister from Ten pm until closing. I do enjoy the atmosphere and comraadery that is here at this loccation. I
Patrons are kind and friendly, bartend is excellent! and the happy hour food options are pleasant and filling. I loved my visit
Boardners is the place to go for a dimly lit moody old bar in Hollywood. The atmosphere is great, with big booths and celebrity pictures all over the walls. The courtyard in the back frequently has music and you can book it for private events. Best of all are the prices for food and drinks. You wont break the bank here and the food is great and the bartenders know what theyre doing. Definitely a good stop to make if youre in Hollywood.
Venue is a great spot for all ages 21+ and up. Securities are friendly and helpful, venue is cash only for the entrance. Beer and liquor ate fair price, dance floor are spacious and music is great. Dress code chill or encouraged to wear your best gear if your feeling flashy!!
A Hollywood classic. A must see, especially on two for one cocktail Tuesday. Classic design, great vibe. Parking is tough on weekends but not as bad during the week but Lyft or Uber is never a bad idea if youre checking out Hollywood, which has changed a lot over the past decade.
This place is amazing. Went for their Saturday Bar Sinister night and had a great time. Great music, dancing, and atmosphere. Im coming back every time im in LA.
Really chilled out atmosphere, very nice place for a few relaxed beer, my wife had cocktails, very nice
This is totally a hidden gem in Hollywood. It doesnt look like anything special from the outside but they have a great happy hour that goes until 8pm. There is also a hidden back patio area that you would never know about from outside. The bartenders are friendly and make great custom cocktails. They also offer free snacks during happy hour which is a fun addition!
I have always had good experience. One of the bartenders George passed away about two years ago. We miss him very much. George had a lot of love in his heart for his customers. We will always be missed and we will love him forever. Hes in a better place now. God bless him.
Local bar that used to be a dive, now a much nicer place. Great place immediately off the boulevard for a quieter drink than some of the sports bars and other nearby loud, raucous bars. Theres no tap beer here, but they do have various happy hours throughout the week.
I had the ribs with Mac & Cheese and fries. $15.00 unbelievable value. The food was amazing and the service was great as always.I am disappointed they ended their relationship with the American Airlines dining program. Please bring it back!!!
Definitely a suspicious club/ bar. I got my phone stolen and I told the bouncer and they said they’ve had 18 phones stolen in the last week. They have a serious pit pocketer situation and the whole staff knows it but does nothing. They don’t even have a sign in the front about entering at your own risk of having your things stolen. I’ve messaged them about the situation many times and they always delete my messages. I feel like there in on the phones being stolen and there’s no cameras. Very weird of them.
Best bar in LA. Period. Been here a quarter of a century. Seriously. Just go there Johnny is the best bar back they ever had and Trevor is really tall. You have to go. The only one that matters. Look at all of my reviews. I dont say these kind of things. Go.
Step back in time to old Hollywood. Great selection of booze and beers. Best burgers in Hollywood. Friendly staff and crowd. They make one of the best Mac and cheese dishes Ive ever had (insider tip: order it with peas and jalapenos).
This place is off the beaten path gem. Seems quant and small but there is a large back patio with a stage for live music. Great atmosphere and staff. Just above dove bar status because of the history and good design.Good deals on drinks if you can make the 2 happy hours it offers.
Best bar in LA hands/beers down. Classic LA real bar. Great staff and atmosphere . Youll actually have a blast here, not just spend money and go home tipsy. The club next door on Saturdays, Bar Sinister, is well... Just that. Check them both out. Youll be glad you did.
A must for any trip to L.A! Great atmosphere, friendly staff, good food!
The cocktails were nothing special, very loosely made and the main thing I didnt like is that the bartender changed the tip amount after paying. Quite rude and incorrect. I will never go back!
Thirs is an incredible place for lovers of Goth Music. Takes you back to the mid 80s
Was there just once but the place was clean, chill, and fun. Stopped by after a show at the Hollywood Bowl. I want to call it a dive but it was way to classy for that label. It reminded me of nice old school version of my favorite dive bar in San Diego but dialed in
Security kicked me out for “looking into security closet” asked to check camera, no response. Is it because is it because I identify as homosexual?
This place is great, awesome events reasonable drink prices and selection. Good food also and nice staff!
Always a great time in this place. Not only is it featured in several series and movies, but you always find yourself having a great time in this place. People tend to be friendly and give you your space. This place has a nice retro vibe that allows for a chill time. Totally recommend!
One of the old great Hollywood bars. A lot of bars have come and gone in this city. Boardners has survived the test of time. Since the remodel its now very dark. It feels bit like Vegas dive bar with its neon lights. Only one cheap sweet vermouth. You will NOT get a craft cocktail there.
Amazing old school bar with a great decor. Food is surprisingly delicious and prices are very responsible for Hollywood. Staff and crowd are almost always friendly.
Great place for after work drinks with a really big patio out back that allows smoking. Nice and dark inside. John is a super nice bartender and the kitchen consistently serves up the most perfectly fried tater tots you can imagine.
The perfect Hollywood local haunt serving stiff drinks by friendly bartenders who keep it flowing. Great spot to meet locals mingle with industry people or just get together with old friends. Highly recommended!
If I could give negative stars I would. Bouncer didn’t let us in because he saw a person not even in our group drinking prior to going in the club. Complete idiots and waste of non refundable $20 tix.
Cozy, cocktails are too watery
Cant enjoy yourself without security breathing down your neck, they kick people out for the dumbest things but still let creeps roam around, rude workers, this place used to be fun but the security ruined it
Love the history of the bar. Every star in Hollywood has walked through the doors. However the staff was not to engaging and we got up and walked to the bar for stuff with our meal as no one would check on us after serving us our food
This is my Hollywood watering hole/haunt. Ive been going to Boardners for over 14 years. Its a small, dark bar PACKED with Hollywood History. Its every comfortable and fun. Theres the main bar which I would say seats 16 people then roughly 8 booths. Then the patio is outstanding even for a quick peak. You can smoke out there too so you can have your drink and cig and not stand on the street. The food is GREAT! Everyone Ive taking there... including my Dad who is as picky as a OCD mother in law loved the food (he doesnt drink but if hes around I sure as heck do)! Food wise I recommend the mac n cheese. Theres a happy hour menu for food that ends at 8pm.There are signature cocktails as well as a full bar.A shout out to the Staff - especially John who can remember your drink order from like 5 years ago!Parking = street meters. They are free after 8pm. There are local lots to park in for cash or you can park in the Hollywood and Highland Mall and walk.
Stopped in for a drink and the bartender was SUPER DUPER friendly. We were curious about the movies and TV shows filmed there. Sooo many! Felt like I was having a drink in movie history! I drank where Johnny Depp drank at!
The Pasta, Cauliflower and dip were amazing. Also the Sneeky Teeky and summer school drinks were the best. Had an amazing time last night cant wait till everything officially opens🎉. The staff were so inviting and friendly.
Def watch out on your drinks here. I had ordered a margarita with Don Julio. I watched the bartender put different alcohols and didnt even add Don Julio to the drink. I told him that I watched him make the drink and he became rude and didnt want to make me a new one. He said he had made it with Don Julio when I clearly watched him. Im pretty sure the bartenders do this on purpose to get you drunk.
This place is amazing! I always have a great time and John is awesome, he always make you feel welcome. Also two thumbs up for the cook. This by far the best bar in Hollywood.
One of my all time favorite bars! My boss Billy Burke introduced me o the place an since then I have just made it a stomping ground! Great people, happy hour, food, environment, and patio in the back with a stage be somtines events and intertainment!! Xoxox love you Boarders NEVER CHANGE!!
This place is hit or miss, but I’ve mostly had great times here. Goth nights and Blue Mondays are the best. There were some creepy dudes and vibes one night I went, but it’s mostly great nights when I go.
Never seen the line wrap around the block and down the street before. I guess word really got out. Suggest to get there early. Youre lucky if you find street parking. Occassoonally theres a valet at the end of cherokee if youre willing to pay. The venue is great. The dont call it the Vampires den for nothing. Awesome on old school hip hop night on the patio. Great spot for 80s on a Monday Night
This place has gone thru lots of changes but its still the spot every rock star in history used to drink at.
Food and drinks were good but the staff were not particularly friendly , almost seemed put out to be serving us.We are visiting from Canada and this place was recommended to us .Maybe you have to be a local to be treated better.
The place is dark and cozy. I came on a Sunday so it was pretty chillax but what really killed it for me was the music the 1 only working bartender / waitress had the worst selection of music it was so bad that thats what made me rush to get the hell out of there . Since there was only one waitress working / bartender service was slow and she got preoccupied with the jukebox for too long ignoring the rest of the clientel only focusing on two patrons. No good wouldnt come back.
Will never be returning to this place. Waste of a $15 cover charge. Drinks are overpriced and bouncers will find any excuse to kick you out in the hopes of getting more money from you
Always a nice place for throwback music, mostly 80’s but there are different genres played on the outdoor patio. Great food and creative drinks at the bar next door. great ambience.
Notice how no one mentions how nice it was to TALK to the people that were there when they went. Stay away from bars that are over 50% transplants trust me they are ruining our city. No one says the guys are cute, the girls are friendly. Because no one talks anymore. If anyone knows a cool place other than the morgue to meet anything with a pulse let me know please.~ Cheers
Worst club experience Ive ever had. Left me on the street with a dead phone and had to argue with the guys for them to tell one of my friends inside that I was out there. Felt very unsafe and uncomfortable by all the people there.
Nice old Hollywood bar where the stars hang out. Nice atmosphere.Good cocktails and friendly staff.
Visited in September last year late on a Saturday night for a few beers with a local. Had a Chimay Trappist beer - great! Spoke to one of the barflies who was an Iron Maiden fan. Highly recommended.
Great local historic neighborhood bar
Was here for a friends birthday Atmosphere insides tries to replicate a New Orleans speakeasy, but doesnt quite hit the mark. Outdoor patio closer to the feel of NOLA, but hard to tell with Halloween decor all around, which added to the vibe. Well drinks were $8 and terrible, very watered down, so we all had only one each (12 people). Didnt want to try the specialty cocktails as didnt want to spend almost double for an expensive, waterd down drink.Switched to a bottle of Pinot Noir, which wasnt much better. No draft beer, only cans, but at least a couple were craft beers...or a PBR for $3...Didnt stay long (less than 2 hrs), but birthday boy who chose the location, had a nice time, so in the end that is all that matters. Stop in for its historic factor, just be forewarned.
Nothing on tap, but a solid selection of bottles and cans to choose from. Be sure to get the ribs if you eat there, theyre falling off the bone every time Ive had them.
I went here a few weeks ago, and I really loved it! The bartenders were incredibly nice with outstanding service! Love the vibe here! Seriously would recommend and, I would definitely come back :)
Arcades, more arcades and beer. Perfect combo! They have an open patio area in between the arcade rooms. Theres food trucks that offer great food! The only downside to this place is the parking, good luck finding any!
Great team (Eli especially) and fantastic food. Kitchen is open later than most in the area
Its Boardners.....its Hollywood! Very chill vibe with all the lounge trappings. Cant miss. Plus you have bar sinister!!!
Live entertainment and great food!! Who wouldnt like Boardners. A good friend of mines band played there recently and I wasnt able to get there the night they played, what a bummer but I understand that theyll be back so I keep a close eye on whos who for that venue. I definitely recommend Boardners for food, drinks, and entertainment. Thanks
Goth Girls screamed at me.
This has been my go to spot for so long that everyone here is basically an extended family. No matter what day of the week or what event is going, its always a guaranteed great time. 1 stop Hollywood spot.
Lost my prepaid debit card and aFriend lost iPhone. Peeps lost 3 phones that night. Beware of theirs here
Nice ambient bar in Hollywood, with actually good food for what they serve. Great happy hour and decent beer choices.
Music is mainstream, but fine…the politic and service of the place is so so…
Liked the calm vibe. Seats were arranged comfortably, and the atmosphere had this gothic vibe which I enjoyed.
Classic bar, great atmosphere, Sunday all day Happy Hour is $4 for beer, well drinks and appetizers, yay! Parking is a problem, sadly.
Club patrons are mistreated many times, that makes the visits UGLY and Undisireable. Drinks need improvement. Who or What is the standard for dress code. Not very friendly crowde. Horriable rep. For true goth decadents and dark uppulent kins. SHAMEFUL.
Really nice place to hang out for drinks. Mondays on the club right next door is so much fun for 80s night people. Definitely reccomend it for party people
Really relaxing bar to spend the night. Great staff and drinks at a surprisingly affordable price for LA
I love this venue. I come Mondays for their blue Mondays 80s night. Spacious dance floor with an outside patio for more dance space. Vintage decor.
I always love coming here. It’s a nice pit stop when walking around Hollywood Blvd.
Beware they do not disclose that they will have a private event and will have you buy drinks and food and kick you out. I have been to other bars that disclose that before you entering. So disrespectful and unprofessional
Had a few too many but fortunately The Driving Crooner was able to give me a safe ride home. Will be back!
We went twice and the security said that there werent tables available and we watched that there were tables empty. I dont know if its because they dont want latinos but anyway he was rude.
I love this bar. Large back patio with live music. Bar tenders are quick and funny, and its also in a great hollywood location. My friends and I frequent here often.
Great bar in Hollywood for Bosch fans!
Love the bartenders. They make great drinks..great drink specials. Good bar food...cool Hollywood chill bar environment. Outdoor patio in back..
Eli was a great bartender. The vibe was great. There was band on the patio that was fun.
Security must’ve had nothing to do lol don’t go here unless you’re under 21 😂 no reason to come otherwise
I go here for Blue Mondays which is a club night! the staff is friendly and attentive and also the music is awesome. They have 2 rooms to party in.
They turned the outside patio into a cool lounge with couches on the stage. Great food, plus 2-for-1 drinks on Tuesdays!
Love this bar! Can’t wait to return and knock back a few.. had one of the best nights of my life here. Amazing!
Love this old school slightly goth vibe. Although maps inaccurate it is not located in silverlake. Right in the heart of Hollywood and Cherokee. Many greatimes here and the wings are always a favorite!
Amazing atmosphere, good music, go here often and love it, sometimes its a little too crowded but generally a great place
If youre Black...dont go. Other than that...its cool. I had fun and the drinks were nice because the bartender was heavy handed. It really gets crackin after 11:30.
No accessible restrooms for powerchairs. Drinks are overpriced, even if overpoured.
Blue mondays!! They feature different music every time on the patio. And always industrial in the main floor. Always a good time. Dancing the night away till 2am.
Great place, old hollywood style, dark, red, just missing the smoke.Perfect set for a movie or for an alternative date.Strong cocktails.
Awesome place...great place for the best cocktail and food with ambience. I would recommend this to everyone who visits Hollywood walk of Fame!!... I would say the best cocktails I had in LA.
Amazing establishment. A friend of mine had suggested this place to me and i look forward to eating there and having a drink Monday before i head back to Arizona, while chasing the looonngg hollywood dream..
Super cool vibes on Blue Mondays, show up half an hour before opening to get good parking.
Love this place, great service, friendly patrons, amazing happy hour food, baby back ribs are a must if you havent had them, and reasonably priced drinks with a classy gentlemans bar aesthetic.
Run don’t walk away from this place. Phones are stolen here nightly at least 5 a night. No way management is not aware. Not worth going to get your phone stolen
Love this gem. For its authenticity and regal welcoming as Hollywoods staple. Over a decade of pours and memories. I salute you!
One of my favorite old-school gothy dance hangouts. Blue Mondays is especially good. Whiteqube is one of the best DJs on the planet.
The great bar to Hollywood landmark you have to know where it is or have heard about it you dont just happen upon it people come to Hollywood looking for stars theyre not on Hollywood Boulevard theyre here but dont tell anybody dark atmosphere great drinks you dont have to tell the bartender anything he already knows just let him know what you want to take it from there
Perfect place in Hollywood for me to get away from all the craziness. I honestly love the darkness of this place. :)Good drink selection and prices with a relaxing atmosphere.
It has that dark gothic esthetic but it’s fun to dance around in. It was a hot day and we really wish wished the A/C was stronger. Overall, it was good.
Its a great spot for drinks and to see performances. The drinks were reasonably priced- for Hollywood standards, and their nachos were pretty good.
Fun place to hang out. Good drinks, great food and nice staff. Good music is always playing in the background here.
Great place for drinks and dancing , Ive been here for blue Mondays , Black Fridays , and Bar Sinister.Great bartenders, and great atmosphere.
Been here before. Good experience but now the security seems to have a power trip🫢🤔
Always a good time. Reccommend this sleek dive for a nice beer/shot special and appetizer after work if youre in the area.
Blue Mondays is a great fun experience at Boardners! a plus that its 18+ as well, I enjoyed dancing with my friends to awesome 80s music & 90s on the patio!
The best damn nachos and chicken tacos in Hollywood. HUGE portions and exceptional cocktails and customer service. Definitely recommend this place
Super cool ambient and the staff is really nice.I had an amazing time and would love to go back.
I really enjoyed this place. I had been there once before but couldnt remember the name. This time someone recommended it and I was glad to see it was the place I had been before!
My first time here. A friend/former customer brought us. Good drinks. Cool vibe. Will return. A+++.
The great place customer service is good that mac and cheese and Fries were great one of the oldest spots in Hollywood its a little dark. If you like that
This is my favorite bar in LA. The bartenders are super grounded and friendly. In my opinion they have one of the beat happy hours.
Beautiful Bar, Good selection of drinks, and dimly lit. Classic Hollywood landmark used in the film ED WOOD and many other films.
