I love this bar! I RARELY go out to a bar, but let me tell you- this place is great! I love the western theme, the intimate atmosphere, the cleanliness(!) and I adore the shows put on by the witches brew and midnight souls productions. Everyone here is welcoming, has a smile on their face, and leaves you eager to come back again and again. I also recommend trying the black cat.🍹
This place is so awesome, I cant believe Ive never been before. The whole ambience was unique and cool, the drinks were great, the burlesque was spicy, and the live music was superb. Definitely coming back with more people next time.Although I will say one thing about the decor, its vintage but 100% doesnt match. The house looks french new Orleans, the bar is art deco, the fireplaces are Victorian, the bar lighting is factory industrial from the 20s, lol. Its a lot. Its cool, so I guess Im just nit-picking.
Went last year,We didnt eat there, just drank and watched a pub crawl and finally...The Saloon themed burlesque show was fun, entertaining and sexy. Would go back for the show again and drinks. They have part of a haunted house from Georgia inside. Must go for the history@bonezngabby_adventures@binez_n_gabby
This place is the bees knees! Live music! Great food! Excellent cocktails! It’s my absolute go-to happy hour in LA. The whole staff is excellent! Happy hour from 5pm to 8pm! AND they just added etoufee fries! Can’t get any better. The bar it’s is a New Orleans themed saloon and every detail in the bar/restaurant is perfect!!!! When you go... ask about the haunted room ;)
Amazing food, drinks, live music, staff and the crowds are so many totally different people :) younger, older, cowboys, gen z, gen x…etc etc just go 🌴👋🏻
Not enough bartenders, and some of the cocktails on their menu tasted kinda gross.BUT youd be hard pressed to find many bars with more unique atmosphere than Sassafras. The decor is antique, the lighting is gloomy and warm, and the high ceiling make this spot feel huge.I came here for a special event, and the venue also has a back patio that hosted vendors. Its a pretty big place.
Excellent food and great vibes. Best burger I’ve had in as long as I can remember and the waiter was hilarious. I also left my wallet behind, but before I could figure out where I left it (I was traveling- just passing through) they looked me up on Facebook and found me!! Exceptional. Highly recommended.
Came for the Honky Tonk on Vine night and it was a blast!
The bartenders (all of them) on Halloween kept charging 20% for single beer purchases of $7. Then giving you the machine to give more tip and sign. Ridiculous. I’m more than for 20% on a cocktail but I should have the choice. It shouldn’t be made for me as if I wasn’t coherent enough to notice.
Ohh boy. Just stumbled into this place. I felt like a cowboy in here. Great drinks. The bartenders are super nice. And the Dj was on fire.
Old crusty and highly historic. Netflix bought it and is going to tear it down.
This place is consistently great, especially during happy hour. Friendly server, good crowd and various spaces to be an introvert. Go between 5 and 8 for happy hour - four cocktail options for $8 and another four or five drafts for $6. They also have deviled eggs for $1. A solid recommend.
It was really awesome and chill, cool bartenders and drinks. Very nice to hang. Then they cranked the music to 11(not in the good way). So you couldnt even talk to the person next to you. The theme and atmosphere are better than the obnoxiously loud music
Good place to hang around for a few hours. Trendy crowd with live music and most importantly, with lots of different types of cocktails. Even though the place looks less bright with candle lighting, the old contemporary looks is what you appreciate. We enjoyed a lot in there.
Beautiful venue. Loved the decor. It looks like the French Quarter. The staff is friendly, the drinks are good and the food is delicious, but plates are kind of small. The specials and happy hour are a great deal. The MardiGra band was awesome. The burlesque show was most excellent, but, there was only 2 girls, two dances. Excellent, fun, place.
I was here for a Halloween party and had a great time, my friend got quite tipsy but it was a good time by all!
Came here on the third night of our speakeasy/bar-hopping trip in Hollywood and Im so thankful we did. The atmosphere here is incredible. It feels just like New Orleans! Reminds of a Pirates of the Caribbean vibe, except its a full bar with delicious cocktails and no children. Everything inside is beautiful, I loved sitting on the benches and just looking around. Truly a treasure in Los Angeles, so unique and fun. You must come see this wonderful place!
We had so much fun at trivia. Host, music, and atmosphere are great
This place is so awesome and unique! Been there for a lot of events and its a great place! The drinks are strong, the music is great and they have lots of room to sit and chill. The bottles all over the ceiling are super cool! Great date place too!
Happy hour is amazing and the vibe is always fun. Super fun to dance and drink your night away. This place is always a good time so when deciding where to go for a few drinks when we have no plans on the weekend, we need to come here more. Love it and you will too.
Great little bar, stage is too small for more than two people
Such a cool bar/lounge! It feels like you stepped of your boat on the Pirates of the Caribbean ride and hit up the saloon for a drink. The atmosphere was fun and the drinks were delicious. I picked one off their cocktail menu and you should too. Not overly pricey either!
This place was okay. Definitely had a lot of atmosphere and some good music; however even for Hollywood the drink prices were through the roof! Also, after having just a few drinks we exited the bar to smoke a cigarette. The bouncer then wouldnt let us back in...we had two drinks, were not drunk and were just smoking cigarettes. Not sure what made the bouncer refuse to let us back in, but that definitely deterred us from ever going back
Cool Louisiana themed bar in Hollywood. Ambiance is perfect for a cozy evening. They have a limited food menu and full bar with specialty cocktails. Some nights offer live music or tastings (RSVP through the Museum of the American Cocktail). We found free street parking right in front, although Im sure we just got lucky. Decent block for walking at night.
This place is so cool! It feels like youre inside of the Pirates of the Caribbean ride at Disneyland!Whoever designed the space obviously put so much time and effort into choosing everything from the glassware to the wallpaper. There is so much detail in every nook and cranny. It honestly feels like youve been transported back in time to the west. The drinks are expensive and on the weekends this place gets packed! But its a nice place to get a drink every once in awhile. Oh and the live band is great!
It is a clean restaurant/arcade/bar with a great vibe. There are two floors and many, many games. The food is pretty good, but they just got rid of the Duck Quesadilla recently and that was the best thing on the menu, but everything else is okay too.
Really cool hip bar. They have a conveyer belt with mixes for drinks above the bar. They make really amazing cocktails. Music selection is top, live bands on a really cool 2nd floor balcony overlooking the bar. When you step inside it feels like youre outside. They also started serving food now. 21+ only of course. Parking is not always available but they do have valet service which is a plus.
Step underneath the climbing vines into Sassafras and be transported into a Southern plantation of that sweet aunt you never knew you had. Take a seat and her staff will mix you drinks with a Southern twist--whether it be sassafras, cinnamon or peaches--and, of course, heavy on whiskey. All the details in the decor were imported from the South, including a deconstructed townhouse with cozy living room set up complete with fireplace and haunting family photos. I would NOT recommend using the restroom inside the townhouse unless you feel comfortable knowing voyeurs can easily watch you. Nonexhibitionists can head to the back restrooms under the balcony.Saved the best detail for last... and thats the live music. Bands perform on the balcony nightly, which you can view anywhere from the bar to the front patio. A fun first stop for a night out in Hollywood.
The atmosphere here is great. Dress the part and come in and hang out. Theres a drum kit in a loft so expect live music occasionally. And check out a show in the attic upstairs if youre lucky enough to get in.
Fun, fun. This place was PACKED almost no room to dance. But fun people and everyone was in a great mood and the decor was cute. Very vintage looking. And a nice mix of old school music.
I had a blast! I loved how it looked like a cozy room in your home! Drinks were great! The only thing that was missing was the live music I was told they sometimes have!
Geez I wish this place was better. The decor and whiskey options are fantastic, but every time Im there it takes around 20 minutes to get a drink from the bartender. Every. Time.It also gets very very crowded so get there early, and by the time you finally do get a drink, the room will have filled up behind you.
GO HERE!! So unique. Look for special themed events. I have been to two themed events, and both were a lot of fun.
This place is all about atmosphere. I love the deep southern vibe - down to the menu with fried green tomatoes and the artfully assembled well drinks, this place screams southern comfort. Its a little on the pricier side but is a great pit stop while bar-hopping for a little scenic change and a step away from the typical hollywood bar scene.
Very nice Location, great Atmosphere, perfect Decoration with historic Goods, adds Burlesque Shows time by time with lovely Donna Hood, wonderful Ashley Hayward and perfect Olivia Bellafontaine! You got to see the Show and spend a good time in the location with nice peoples! Ive been there on 8.th November 2015 and had a perfect time! I love it! Ill be back in the Sassafras Saloon! C U Stefan Meier ;)
My first time at Sassafras will never be forgotten...if I dont remember certain things that occurred in there then I have a lot of embarrassing pictures to remind me what happened. This night was memorable thanks to all my close friends who came out to celebrate my early birthday. ALL the cocktails Ive tried were delicious (except the one with peppercorn...dont get that). The interior was exactly what I expected. Very intimate (tiny) bar with a quirky New Orleans theme. My favorite part was the conveyer belt above the bar with beers hanging from them. Theres a cocktail pricing wheel in the back that you can spin thatll determine how much youll pay for a drink. Live band above the bathroom, which I didnt pay attention to because I was busy enjoying all the drinks I can handle in the tiny room across the bar. It gets pretty warm inside so keep a look out for coat hangers if you need a place to hang your jackets.Parking: find residential street parking before paying $7 for valet.Line: is ridiculous...heard its better to show up after 11pm if you want to get in faster. My friends showed up at 10pm and was in line for almost an hour.Drinks: Prim was my favorite, my whiskey loving sister wasnt that impressed with their old fashion
I love the decor inside. The made it look like New Orleans. We did not stay too long but I did get a cocktail and it was good. The crowd was good as well and music not too loud.
A fun place with great atmosphere. Under new management that seems to really be excited about the place. My biggest issue is the live music. They always seem to have the volume cranked to 120%. And im not some griping person whos like its too loud in here wah wah wah. Its just legitimately too loud to have a conversation when live music is playing.... and its not a concert hall.
It really depends on the night. Sometimes its cool and full of Hollywood locals who know how to act in public, other times it looks like a USC Trump rally where young adults go to break the seal with sweet, easy to gulp adult beverages as they explore their vanilla sexuality and climb the ladder of preppy social status. Great cocktails and bartenders though.
I came to have a quick drink after a long & stressful day. It is not the cheapest option, but I didnt come during Happy Hour. On the other hand, the hush puppies were delicious, as well as the drinks. Atmosphere was also just what I needed.
Drinks and service were on point. Had to dock them for not having a band or live music, like the advertise. Bartenders said they are trying to get band. Call a heads a make sure they have music if thats what youre hoping for.
A great place to hear some authentic country western music, the ambience is charming, crowd the friendly, and the service is excellent.
Its got nothing but New Orleans drinks on the menu. No food, so eat before coming here and enjoy great atmosphere in the heart of Hollywood. I came to Los Angeles by way of New Orleans, so I stopped in here hoping it would be a home away from home. It didnt dissapoint!
The Louisiana theme seems pretty loose in my opinion, but it’s a cute place to find Abita beers and some fun twists on classic New Orleans drinks. Haven’t been for any live music but looks like it’d be tons of fun.
Talk about the epitome of hipster. This bar in a nondescript area of Hollywood was filled to the brim with plaid, beards, hats & Canadian tuxedos on a Tuesday night!Decorated in the style of a plantation in New Orleans (both inside and outside), the bar itself is quite long. Theres interesting wicker patio furniture being used to create that outdoor feel in one area, with plenty of barstools on the other side.Theres a separate room which is more intimate as well. Bathrooms are very vintage with only one 1920s era urinal & 1 stall for toilets. The drinks were pretty standard for a hipster joint as well. One plus is there is lots of street parking around.
Pretty fun and cool place! Very dark, with a live band. Nice variety of cocktails about $12-$14 each, as well as ciders and beer on tap.
Usually pretty busy and takes a while to get drinks made because they are all done to order (which is nice). Once a year they do a fun prohibition anniversary special where your first drink is like 10 cents.
Great atmosphere, lovely little Hotpoint video booth, and they had a live band the night I went. Definitely on the crowded side on a Saturday night but there are tables to chill at that are out of the way.
Its a fun place to go out. The place usually gets pretty packed. They have an old style decor and the usually have a live band. Good seletion of drinks at a decent price.
So they dont serve complimentary boiled eggs anymore...well they dont serve any food now that I think about it...strictly cocktails. This Old West Themed bar really packs a personality. The décor is very elaborate really cool and old-timey. They also have a neat balcony where bands perform live music on Saturdays. The band was awesome BTW did some really great indie covers. If you can get past the not-so-friendly customer service, then the drinks here are awesome. I highly recommend the PImms No 1933 (Pimms, Chareau Aloe Liqueur, Strawberry Cucumber Shrub, Lemon and Ginger). It was both tasty and intoxicating. Two would do the trick!Overall pretty decent crowd seems like the type of place to bring your own group of friends rather than socialize with others.Bathrooms are super cool and they have a cool photobooth that create cool little photo gifs.
The Burlesque show was very entertaining. And the food and drinks were really good. Had a blast with our party.
It reminds me of Hemingways but on a smaller scale. arrived on a saturday night just in time to catch their happy hour, $8 for their signature cocktails and build your own drinks. unfortunately, the barrel aged cocktails are not part of Happy Hour.we sat at the bar to be greeted by two very nice bartenders. both ladies were fantastic, recommending drinks, entertaining us with their bartending skills and serving us with delicious libations.my first order was the cucumber smash which was light and refreshing (a little bit too light for me) while the bf ordered a build your own with bourbon and ginger beer. my second order was the blackstrap old fashion (recommended by the bartender). bfs second drink was...again the build your own, but this time with tequila. this time both of our drinks were stronger than our first.they have a small offering of food items which i assume changes regularly based on the other reviews here. we did not order anything as we nibbled on their complimentary hard boiled eggs. yes, you read that right....they give you hard boiled eggs and hot sauce to nom on while you drink! naturally i was elated because i never say no to protein! and having two was just enough to satisfy my tummy!drinks prices are definitely a little bit on the pricey side, but its definitely worth it. even the decor of the place is enough for you to want to come back because it feels like you traveled through time. my bf was really mesmerized by the rotating bottles over the the bar which contains the barrel aged cocktails.cool place! will be back!
Fun, western-themed, New Orleans style spot. But this is not a piano bar as stated on Google maps -- bar hosts a variety of shows on different nights, I believe a piano bar style show is one of them, but this is not available nightly.
Fun bar with interesting decor, including taxidermy, a balcony with a live band and a house imported from New Orleans. This place gets packed at night, so arrive early if you dont want to get squashed.
Very cool vibe, easy going. The chicken and waffle sliders were great. Thick white meat chicken seasoned, cooked through, not dry. Fine Old Fashioned.
So amazing. This location is awesome but check out any of the 1933 group locations. The look of each bar hits the mark perfectly, every detail is thought of. Defiantly a must see
Im only giving this place stars because I saw a lot of amazing horn players and a Black lady with the big afro blasting and dancing from balcony when we showed up. If those guys are playing again than I would definitely go again
Fantastic atmosphere, great drinks and friendly service... a bit pricey though if you dont go during happy hour.
Went to Sassafras Saloon over the weekend and had so much fun. This bar in K-Town is nice and intimate and a great place to relax with your friends with some drinks.
Beautiful spot to catch grab a couple drinks. There are several spaces including some cozy/romantic corners that makes this large, high-ceiling space still feel intimate.
Great vibe. Good drinks. No accessible bathroom for power chair users.
Great drinks, really friendly bar staff, super interesting decor and atmosphere. Highly recommend this place, I’ll be heading back when next in LA for sure.
This is a really cool bar with tasty, strong drinks and very friendly service. The inside is like a little French Quarter. Super cute.
Very cool place, back bar has a wheel to chance a free or cheaper drink. Music from the band above everyone else with dancing below adds quite a flair.
Ive been here on several occasions and every time its packed with good people and great drinks! The setup is one of the coolest in LA.
Cool western saloon theme inspired bar. Drinks/bartender are good. Nice place to get a drink if you are in the area.
Such a cool bar! Great atmosphere. The staff was decent and they take care of the customers need.
Atmosphere was absolutely fantastic. Their staff was very friendly. The oven was broken and being replaced. We needed food so we went elsewhere. Would go back to try.
Sassafras Saloon is the kind of place that makes you repeatedly ask yourself - where am I? Am I on set? Am I having a bad dream after watching one two many episodes of West World? Am I drunk off whiskey and ginger beer and dancing to rap music?! Yes. Yes you are. Come here to get loose and have a good ole time.
This place has a great atmosphere and their drinks are delicious (although a little pricey). They also have food and AMAZING curly fries
Coolest place. properly amazing, the horse inside was moved from Savannah Georgia! staff can very overwhelmed but the bevvys are great
The live bands are insane! Amazing experience and bartender service is quick and good pricing. Also great crowd to be out
Sassafras has a great atmosphere, friendly staff, and high-quality drinks. Their dark n stormies are my favorite in LA!
Cool 1 of a kind New Orleans style bar/lounge with music some nites. Good upper scale drink selection & friendly bartenders.
Always a good time here. Very unique type of bar for Hollywood. Seems to attract friendly people.
Those bar keeps know how to shake a good cocktail. Very cool atmosphere with Louisiana Themed interior and a lot of attention to detail.
Sean is the best bartender Ive had! I always go and service is ok but never have see. Sean was like thank god! Someone serves me At the bar in a timely fashion!
The crowd is cool, good music, dj, great bartenders. Been here a few times, always had a good time.
A very-very nice speakeasy bar with outstanding interior and cool vibe. They even host grammy award winning musicians on Saturday night!
The place has great ambiance until about 10pm when they fire up the projector to show silent movies and crank up the music to a point where its impossible to have a conversation.
Great spot, I enjoyed the music and the decoration was pretty awesome! I went on a Friday and there was a DJ, I hope I can go back when the live band is playing
Good spot for New Orleans style food and a good drink. The atmosphere is great. This is really a cool find!
Great bar with an old rustic yet nice atmosphere. Great drinks and awesome live music!
Very chill bar and I love to old timely look. Love coming here with friends for some good cocktails
Looking for a good time to have some drinks with a fun atmosphere? This is the place! Just come early to avoid the lines to get in.
Recommend the old fashioned. Friendly, knowledgeable bartenders. Exactly what you should expect from a NOLA inspired cocktail bar.
I hosted a private party there and they were incredibly accommodating. The easiest party ive ever planned - and the food was terrific!
I really liked the decor. Good drinks and service. I plan to return again to this wonderful place.
Went there for new years eve and there was no cover (rare for NYE in LA) the drinks were well made and strong and the staff was friendly and fun.
Themed decor and fun drinks. Unfortunately the service was lacking-stood at the bar for 10 minutes while the bar tenders talked to a friend who walked in.
The vibes were immaculate
One of my favorite bars! Great atmosphere and sometimes live music.
Kitschy and sort of a fun way New Orleans style cuisine and then I sell a bar scene combine into one. I have it on high authority to try the beignet
This place was pretty hepcat. Old style bottles rotating above the bar. Cool smoking lounge. Stone IPA cans.
Love this place. Its like being transported back in time to the coolest bar in New Orleans. JUST GO 😊
Great atmosphere with New Orleans decor and comfy sofas. They also play music during the weekends.
Awesome Saloon style craft Bar serving a variety of old world cocktails. Awesome decor
Amazing experience and bartender service is quick and good pricing. Also great crowd to be out
Thinking about going to Savannah to drink yourself silly? Save the money you would spend on a plane ticket and buy yourself (and your new friends) a whole lotta drinks at this restaurant that looks and feels like you are in the South.
Drinks were not good at all but the food was great. Chef is super nice.
Love this place! So atmospheric as if walking through a time machine. Vintage classy.
Great bar, the service is awesome here, they have some delicious food!
Take an old West saloon, sprinkling some steam punk and you get this place. A long time personal favorite of mine thats absolutely worth a visit.
The music and ambiance were great, but the drinks were not very good, unfortunately. The Sazerac and old fashioned were not well balanced.
This is one of the hottest kept secret In Hollywood some of the baddest and funkiest ban perform at the Sassafras, some of the interior structure was flown in from new Orleans , this place hops
Love Thursday night samba! Their mixed drinks are amazing. Love the vibe.
Ambiente is 10/10.Staff is very friendly and the drinks are amazing.Mezcal Sour was very good.
Great bar and atmosphere, the bartenders were very helpful and mixed great drinks
I wish the bar tenders were nicer otherwise a very unique experience. Strongly recommend.
The band plays on an indoor balcony. Smoking patio in front. Great cocktails!
Love this bar, super cool decor, great customer service. Awesome bar tenders.
Great bar, cool vibes, haunted, great cocktails and whiskey selection.
A cool place in Hollywood, although I was baffled as to why it was empty on a Saturday night 🤔
They had a brass band playing from the balcony! Good selection of drinks and good vibes 😎
It was lots of fun.. nice instruction for salsa.. GREAT crowd and drinks
Very cool looking place. Good drink selection!
It’s a fun spot, but they double charged me...purchased 1 beer and got charged for 2.
Best nightspot in Hollywood. Great music stiff drinks. A+!
Ive only ever been once, but the live music was great. Ill be back again.
Awesome decor, stiff drinks great live music.
Awesome live jazz on Monday nights, great atmosphere and delicious cocktails
Bartenders know their craft! Great decor! Definitely a must !!

Famous venue for live music, you always can find amazing musicians playing here!
Fantastic environment, nice bartenders. A+ drinks (Worth the value)
Great atmosphere, drinks were well priced for LA
Cool pub. Play silent films on the wall and have homemade root beer (sassafras that is haha)
Some of the best crafted well drinks. Whiskey sour is the best Ive ever had
Very busy on weekend nights, but fun with a great atmosphere.
Electric atmosphere!!! Date or Girls night, simply cant go wrong! Fab Spot
Great drinks. Interesting crowd but great drinks
Great live music! This was a fun stop while I was visiting LA
Awesome cocktails and good interior to hang around.
Its about the band and the booze. Pay no attention to faux funky attitudes.
Feel like New Orleans and the manager is a fox with a great crew under her
Breath taking decor, good music, good food, amazing staff. 5 stars all the way.
Awesome place, go here
My band played here in September. great beer selection!
Cool spot. Great place to come check out with friends and hang.
Great drinks. Great music. Mardi gras vibes
It seemed more of a place to hang out rather than party. If you want to chill out, its the place for you.
Good draft, perfect place to get beer and talk with ppl
Small inside but very popular for drinks and some food.
Great atmosphere and the bartenders are very friendly!
