This was my ever first time coming to The Mayanand on top of that, for a concert. There are a few parking lots across the street ($25-$30) which is convenient. The doors opened at 9:00 as stated but the show didn’t start till around 11:30. That was SUPER annoying. The drinks are strong but very expensive. The audio is horrible! For general admission there is plenty of uncomfortable seating all the way on top where the view is great however your behind will by numb by the end of the show. I would perhaps come back to dance, but not for an event.
This place seems sketchy in regards to staff specifically security so first impressions at the door they kept rejecting people for dress codes I guess which is weird for a night club and they were really rude denying people . We go into the night and there is barely any ventilation it feels like your in a big box with no air . All of this a side and what I witnessed before I leave is something outrageous the security was jumping a guy right in front of the door while he screams for help this guy was tied down while he was running asking for help the black security guy tripped him to the street I mean this guy landed face down while being kicked and punched by security full of blood while the 2 girls with him running around and asking for help crying while witnessing their family member gets brutally attacked I mean I’m sorry but I can’t explain how horrific the scene was regardless to what the guy did nothing justifies the brutal attack. No police showed up at all only an ambulance picking up the victim after they locked him inside after beating him tell the blood is dripping from him .i hope that guy really sues them . And as im reading more reviews it seems like this specific place has so many incidents of people beaten till they bleed out . This incident happened last Saturday night 6/2/2024. Definitely never showing up here again the vibes are really off in this place . Very sketchy operation stay away
2024 UPDATEIt’s sad to see this venue now as I’ve had lots of great experiences, but the Mayan’s decline is noticeable and dramatic. To start, the Mayan is only pulling about 40% of the crowd it used to on Saturdays pre-COVID. Before it was a miracle, if you got in after 11:30pm on a Saturday. Yesterday, I strolled in at 11:45 and was the first person in line. The hip hop basement has been closed for at least 2 years now without indication it will ever open again. The upper balcony area is also off limits now. The way it’s going, management may shut down the bachata room one of these days.Unfortunately, the prices and cover are either the same or higher than they were pre-COVID. Guys should expect to pay $25 after 10:30 even if the venue is half empty. The bouncers, staff, and some of the bartenders are straight up rude and unpleasant to talk to. The only friendly staff members appear to be the señores working in the restrooms. Also, BEWARE of the bald fellow bartending the long bar left of the main stage. He charges 2x-4x times the price that other bartenders at the Mayan charge. For example, I ordered a shot of well tequila and mineral water in a plastic cup. The guy tried to charge $39 for that and even had the gall of getting upset with me when I called him out. When I told him the price was unreasonable, he chucked the tequila shot in the drain and tried to charge $19 for the club soda (yes, I’m referring to the club soda most bars give away for free). Not even the most exclusive bars in Mexico City, selling Acqua Panna, will charge you $19 for mineral water.Sadly, the best thing about Mayan nowadays is the Hibachi stand right in front of it. I hope they change course (or management) as the club will definitely go out of business if it continues in this trajectory.
The venue is great but they didnt really play the music that was advertised when i bought tickets. Got there about 1030pm and it was dead until about 12am. Staff is cool tho.
The Mayan is a no fail entertainment venue in the DTLA area. They host many events that cater to dancing, concerts, and the like. But the reason I go is to see Lucha VaVoom, which is a lucha libre styled caucus of mayhem that only occurs four times in the year: Valentines, Cinco de Mayo, Summer, and Halloween. Its definitely worth the price of admission!
It was a nice place with decent music. Most of the drinks on a Saturday night were $14plus tip. Just taking off one star for the people. The crowd was mostly older couples.
Where do I start!? The party was amazing!!! I brought A LOT of people to the party, and we were not disappointed. After a great night of fun and dancing and great music, the outside was even better with all the Glizzy carts ready to feed my babe. Just like any other establishment that serves fine beverages, theres always those that have had a little too much to drink. Of course, there was that typical outside drama, but security was QUICK to put an end to the malarkey. There was a lot of drunkies with hurt feelings, but security did an amazing job handling the situation. I WILL FOR SURE BE GOING BACK!!!
June 2023 - Too expensive for the music and crowd.Pricing/Ambiance - $20 cover charge. Too expensive honestly. The music wasnt consistent and was difficult to dance to. Right when you get into it, the DJ changed the tempo. The crowd was a mix of tank tops and shorts to dress shirts and business casual. A fight broke out in the club and another fight broke out across the street from the venue but noone made a move to contact law enforcement or stop the fight. The venue overall is pretty big and I enjoyed the setup but that was it. Bathrooms were decently clean.Parking - Pricey lots nearby.
Traveled from Chicago to see AURORA here back to back. Obviously, those were beautiful shows. However, I was impressed by this venue. It such a a beautiful place and the staff are really good on reminding people in the crowd to keep the mask on. They also managed the sold out queues so well that it was easy and safe to get into the venue.
I ordered a white claw from the bar. The bartender all he did was get the can from the fridge and open it. After I made payment Bartender tapped the tip can aggressively on the counter expecting a tip. Bartender did it more than once. I always tip for a drink made not one handed to me in a can.
Great atmosphere & awesome music. Amazing the prices for entrance has been the same from almost the early 80s. Unbelievable, where every where else is crazy expensive. Good place to go dance & enjoy yourself or take the woman out & just have some fun.
To all my females be aware, there’s a lot of guys that go for one thing to steal inside your purse my phone, and my keys got stolen inside my friends purse and securities were no help. They left me talking and didn’t help me.
Very cool venue visually but the sound system is TERRIBLE. The speakers can’t handle how loud they play music, ear plugs are a must. Honestly it’s a hazard…
The truth is that the people who work here are extremely rude since they receive you, they feel that they are the owners of the place, they dont let you join the line even though you have already been waiting, entering my mistake was to go out to move my car, but they themselves told me that those who entered through the big door are the ones who work there, although today they dont work but if boss lets them enter through the big door without standing in line, its ridiculous first and last time I come to this disgusting place its disgusting customer service
Visited the Mayan to enjoy the presentation of Lucha Va Voom! Such an incredibly classy/rauncy/hilarious show. This venue is so gorgeous on the inside and very well themed. I only wish I took more photos. The layout is great for the show down below amd seating on the tiered steps is comfortable. There are several bars throughout the venue, so it is convenient to get a drink wherever you are. Drinks are a bit pricey ($15 Jameson/ginger). Metal detectors and security upon entrance for safety. We were granted access to the club following the show, but left. We even saw Joseph Sikora who was there to enjoy the show!
Always having a good time at this place ! Even though the old format before Paradiso came was much better!
I cant say enough good things about the Mayan. The facade as well as the interior are mesmerizing. The people who work here are laid-back friendly and informative. There are multiple bars and bathrooms, and while VIP tickets have their benefits ie private bar, closer seats you wont find yourself cursing the Gods if you bought a general admission ticket.
This place sucks show started a 9 didnt get in until 10 or 1030 pm the security was rude and the beer was expensive it was overcrowded cant even see the band for 70 bucks a ticket I was expecting to see atleast the band plying but theres no visibility of the stage unless you had vip tickets dont even waste your money also lines to the girls restroom was insanely full!!! they need to do better!
Came here for a show. Dude next to me literally lit up a cigarette yall nasty
I went to this place for the first time this weekend. It was great, great music 2 floors, drinks were mid approximately $20 each but they dont get you drunk so you will have to pregame. Entry was $20. Mixed ages crowd they do have bottles service but I didnt ask how much.
Dont waste your time . Highly disappointed. On my birthday me and a couple friends headed here. All dressed in black one friend who identified as he/fem boy was wearing cute makeup and nice dress shorts. He was not allowed to enter. I saw others wearing regular blue jeans . It was honestly ridiculous the way they denied entrance was totally body shaming him. I really hope people stop going here. Its ridiculous dont waste your time . We headed to the conga instead and it was a 10 /10 experience. The mayan needs to not pick and chose who the dress code applies to. If my friend would have been more female presenting as in short booty shorts crop top kinda thing the men would have let them in. Oh yea it was men who said he couldnt go in witch makes it all worse cause like I said straight body shaming . Its 2020 mayan do better.
Epic crowds of genuinely fun people, killer music and not a single arrogant DJ in sight. Staff are super pro and responsive even on wild nights. Can get in and out no problem, no b.s. promoters infecting the place with their surly attitudes and fake wannabe IG models.
It’s a shame when a security guard not only hits a man but a women too. Security is the worst they think they are police when they are not. A couple of people went to the hospital including a woman. Be careful going to that club because of security. This both security latino guards are the worst hopefully they get fired
Updates another year later: music was really good surprisingly it was recent music. This place has died down a lot. They dont even open the basement anymore LOL. Def dead on friday. Was cool to hav dance floor to myself but gets old quick too. 15 to get in at 930pm. I give up on the west coast yall LA hollyweird boring ego af lol. And the men all have sticks in their culo simpletons lol. Fun fact: there r more men on the west coast then wombmen vs the east coast. Either way america dried up lol. I rate 3.877. Dancing areas are getting smaller & smaller lmao. Same dj since 2016. Bro played the weeknd lfg.Update 3 yrs later: ok this place was lit. Everyone was dancing and engaged. Humans were chillin. Music was actually decent but it started getting lame around 12. Played some newer top40 doja cat but still a lot of the same ol rotation. I rate a 4.475 Havent been here since like 2019. Wasnt too crowded. Came at 1015 and paid $20. Still the same dj. Saw one guy couldnt get in bc he didnt have a collard shirt. The seat area was closed. Part of the main floor is now a payed table area. They should really try something new with the music and stuff, could be better. I was danced out and the music was getting weak so I left at like 1235. Its worth it though. I also saw people wearing whatever as well, they probably payed extra money is my guess. Age is mixed which i love. This place is pretty mature though. Club was very weak in the beginning. Towards 11 it picked up.Old review: I rate a 3.7. Its 3 floors. Went on a saturday. Its like $10 before 1030. For the basement hiphop floor its the Same dj and 90% the same rotation every Saturday for the past two yrs haha. website is informal and easy to navigate. The main floor is usually all kinds of spanish and some mostly edm a hint of techno and house maybe. The other floor is usually reggaeton bachata spanish rock banda merengue etc... crowd is mixed and 21+. Church clothes! Coat check available. Plenty of seats and stairs haha.Fyi: Club picks up the usual LA time, 11ish. My take on LA clubs: they are hit or miss, Takes a while for people to loosen up, Crowd is usually stiff, People start leaving and gets jaded around 2am. Haha. And the music is always okay. Never consistent with top hits back to back. Im from ny so my standards are different. Where are the top40popmusic party spots though.
I saw the legend Arthur Verocai perform his beautiful, self-titled album there, and the atmosphere was great. I need to go on a typical club night to really assess the vibe but my experience was great.
Back on February 10, 2023. I went to see Grupo Niche for my Birthday the concert was great. However, One of your security’s were so rude I was so tired and sat just for 5 minutes on the stairs going up to the second floor one of the securities came to me to ask me to moved like I was a 5 years old girl, so rude. I didn’t appreciated his rudeness. Your employees needs training how to treat people i ask his name and he refused to give me his name. He’s behavior was disgusting and not appropriate how he talked to me. Also, I couldn’t stand the smell of weed inside your location while Grupo Niche was performing which is totally unacceptable for people to smoke cigarettes imagine weed. I truly had a very bad experience. Not invited to go back or recommend any of my friends to go either! If I could I will give this place a 0 stars😡
Luke-warm beer that isn’t even inside the fridge but in a simple plastic tray with no ice at every bar stand. There is a certain dress cose you “must” adhere to or thats what they want you to believe but it seems there is a large selective group of people that can wear what they please and enter. A friend was not allowed to enter because he was wearing a designer t-shirt and the minimum requirement was a collar shirt. Yet when we entered there was many men wearing plain t-shirts. If your gonna be “strict” about certain things it should apply to everyone. The way the lady at the front spoke to us when telling us this was also very rude and spoke in a condescending way. If you have a chip on your shoulder you probably shouldn’t be working as a greeter. I would have provided her name for management but when I asked her for her name along with the bouncer they refused.
The most horrible place I have ever been to. The securitys are animals that abuse their power there and beat people without caring if they hurt them. I went with my husband and other people and these stupid people beat them so much that they had to go to the hospital. They were 10 of these savages against two people, I am plotted, please do not go to this place because you are putting your life in danger with these guys.
Me and my mother in law have a disabilities. The security Jesus kicked me and my boyfriend out. This is a place that you dont want to go to if you have any disability. Security does not accommodate you. They kicked me out. Even when me and my boyfriend showed security Jesus our information about our disability. He still kicked us out. Law suit waiting to happen. I will be in touch with my lawyers. I am not happy at all with this venue!
I like this place!Моя мечта осуществилась в этом клубе :) Я был на любимой группе #STEREOPHONICS!😊Советую сходить на чей нибудь концерт тоже;)(Translated by Google)I like this place! My dream came true in this club :) I was in my favorite band #STEREOPHONICS!😊I advise you to go to someone’s concert too;)
I went there with my wife to watch Milton Nascimento, a prolific. Brazilian artist who just finished his farewell tour. Beautiful venue. You will have to walk a little further for better-priced parking or $25 across the street.
We had a great time Latin dancing Saturday night. Be advised that the party doesn’t really start until after 11 PM…Also, bring your own group! Noticed several guys get shutdown by ladies there to dance with their girlfriends, so maybe bring a date as well. Lots of couples and groups, not really a singles scene. Also, if you do the online RSVP and show up before a certain time it’s half the price! Probably because the party doesn’t start until 11 lol.
I went out with a group of friends this past Saturday night. Wanted to check this place out, but when we arrived at the door the bouncers greeted us with hostility. They told us that they had a dress code, but when we asked what it was they just said “read the sign.” All of our dress was in compliance with the sign that they had posted, but they still said no entry? I’m disappointed in this establishment because it seemed to us that they discriminate against minorities. I’m glad that we did not go inside because if the vibes on the outside are bad, then that definitely tells me something about the inside! Please beware!
Disgusting service - we queued up for the drinks for over 40 mins for the bartender to purposely ignore us for what reason, I have no idea - Grey haired one. Given that Im a lawyer, there will most definitely be a lawsuit on him and the club for them putting my girlfriend (as he was about to hit if I didnt intervene) in danger and not do anything about it.Ps, mayan, if you do decide to respond and deny, let the cctv do the talking.
The staff at this venue seems to hate their Job/lives. The most rudest people Ive ever met in dtla. Management should fire them and hire people who care about their reputation. The bouncers were extremely rude to the women I came with and Racially profiled my guy friends. I would give 0 stars if I could
Hate this place the bartender was a racist latina (Im white) basically when I went to order at the bar, she took everyones order even the people that walked up to the bar AFTER me. When there was no one left only then did she look at me with disgust and finally ask me what I wanted. She kept ignoring me when I waited patiently as she helped other latins that got there AFTER me and when I finally ordered she looked annoyed and then demanded a tip which of course I didnt give to her. Good riddance there are far better places than this craphole....LaCita is superiorOh also the music sucks ass👎
Always an incredible time at, The Mayan. We attend at least two events there every year. This year we felt the need to thank their incredible staff for going above and beyond to help us out. We had forgotten our earplugs and were considering leaving. (We are musicians who value our hearing) The management / security staff were kind enough to provide us a few pairs from their own stash and saved the night. We stayed until the wee hours of the morning and couldnt be more grateful. Cant wait to dance the night away again at this dope location.
Was there for Grupo Niche last night and it was clear the event organizers oversold the capacity. I just want to know why a space that big only has ONE SINGLE STALL bathroom for women on the main floor? The wait was an hour long and security was taunting rather than redirecting us to other bathrooms while men breezed in and out. Also didn’t let any women use them when asked. Security was also rude. I had VIP tickets and asked which line I was supposed to go in, and he forced me into GA that wrapped around the building even after looking at my ticket. Took three hours for the feature to start, and another 30 minutes for it to sound good. Horrible venue.great show eventually
My favorite special event venue in L. A. The Mayan is decorated like a Mayan Temple and while that may sound a bit weird, it actually works in a dark dance club environment. The dance floor is quite large and they also have a large stage. This is a tri-level club and there are many rooms to discover. If the event you attend here is allowing people to walk around to the back end of the stage, check out the large room that is situated under the stage. Most of the bathrooms are located up in the front of the club but they do have some smaller bathrooms scattered about. The room under the stage has a bathroom off of it that most people dont know about so there is rarely a line for it. They also have a very large bar area near the front of the club as well. It is a very large bar and it usually has many bartenders working it so the lines here are pretty short. There is a smaller side bar at the left hand side of the stage but it usually has only one or two bartenders and you will wait longer to get to the bar here. It is a daunting task to make your way across that large dance floor when it is crowded but if you can navigate your way through, the front bars are a better choice. The Mayan is in an old converted theater and it has a very large balcony with plenty of lounging around space. The balcony is also situated high above the dance floor and is worth a visit just to look down at the dance floor during peak hours. If the fog machines have being used, the excess fog will be floating like clouds over the heads of the people on the dance floor but below the balcony. It looks like the club has its own weather inside the club and the people dancing look like they are way down below you (because they are). The balcony is really that high up and it is an impressive sight looking down. This is a fun venue and I always have a great time here.
Securities are extremely rude and I have never felt so threaten before in my life. if you are trying to have a good time don’t come hereFirst time and last time coming here
I was having trouble how to rate this place. Im not much of a club goer. I dont like large crowds. I dont like people rubbing against me. I dont like driving far and paying too much for drinks and parking. I do like live music and being with friends. So for the music and good company, I averaged this place at 3 stars. The entertainment was really great! I always appreciate good live music, regardless of the style or language. My wife and I had just started taking salsa lessons so we decided to put some of our moves to the test. Luckily the dance floor gets pretty crowded so we blended in and nobody could tell how awkward we really were :) Drinks are WAY overpriced, but thats par for the course in LA. I mean $7 for a Bud Lite? But if youre going to a club in LA youre already expecting to drop a wad of cash anyway, so why not? There is a cover charge, but we didnt pay it because we were attending a birthday reservation and we got in free for coming early. Anyway, it was a fun night and I might go back again if invited, but I probably wont suggest it. Like I said before, clubs just arent my thing. If you like clubs then youll like the Mayan. If you dont like clubs youll probably still like it. If youre broke, just stay at home.
I went here for the Aurora concert, and let me just say, the sound in this building was.... PHENOMENAL! You could hear everything so clearly, and it wasnt too loud or too quiet. The seemed friendly, and of course the building itself was pretty darn cool.
Really cool place. Been here a few times and it never disappoints! There are three levels the main floor is salsa and merengue, the upstairs is house, and the basement is hip hop not that lame hip hop you here on the radio but the old school you can dance to and some you know drake and other newer hip hop. It does get a little crowded but it is a night club, what do you expect!? The drinks arent priced too bad and theyre usually pretty strong. There is a mix in the crowd in age but theyre there for a good time. Definitely a cool place to have a good night out.
They removed us from the club for not meeting the dress code, but we were wearing dresses/jewelery/makeup/etc. They DID let men in who were wearing sneakers and jeans, however. Definite gender bias. Seems like it would have been nice if we’d actually been able to enjoy it
Very fun time at the Mayan! Good vibes and good drinks!
We went on Saturday and got bottle service. Randomly a staff member took our bottle when it was half full and everything off the table. The club wasn’t even closing any time soon yet. I asked 2 staff what happened and why the bottle was gone and they said they don’t know and weren’t helpful at all. Seemed like people were trying to steal our purses from our table. It wasn’t fun at all. I wouldn’t go back, I’d recommend finding a different club to spend your money at.
1. DJ could not stick to a genre for more than 10 seconds.2. Crowds is no longer dressing up, too many kids in sandels and sneakers.3. The whole main dance floor smells like cigarette. So if you are a millennial crowd or older this is no longer the club.
The Mayan is a old theater in downtown Los Angeles turned into a club. Its pretty big and pretty popular. My friends and I went to go see a favorite DJ spin that I have not seen in a long time. I had a good time the music was great and the sound was good, but I expected more from the venue. I feel the Mayan could use a face lift. Of course this is my opinion but its defenitly a spot worth checking out. Its alot of fun.
My top recommendation venue for latino men in los angeles. i met my ex gf here, i cant say that about any other club in L.A. everything about this place is at least average. this is a predominantly latino crowd so if u dont like us, it might not be a good place for u. it also might be the largest club in L.A. 3 floors. i think its 10 dollars before 1030. and 20 dollars after
Has great music for dancing. Gets crowded around 11pm and then its really difficult to dance since there is no room on the floor, so if you go early dance and enjoy the space because later is just too crowded. Overall I recommend it.
Im changing my review after attending last night for a party to discover just how horrible the staff are there. Near the end of the night, I had run out of cash and hadnt brought in my credit card with me. I asked for a cup of tap water from a bartender, who kindly gave me one, no issues. I went back to the same bar by the back of the theater, and asked another bartender in a black shirt and white mesh trucker hat for a cup of water. He said five bucks for bottled and nothing else he can do, despite the same water dispenser being less than five inches from his hand. He proceeded to give me attitude, like the doosh that he was. The guy was either completely incompetent or just hating his life because hes in his thirties and still just a bartender in the back bar of the Mayan. Guess Id be pretty bitter too if I was a loser serving people having the time of their lives for scrap change. My friend also had a bad experience with a security guard, who stopped him while entering and aggressively threatened to kick him out if he got out of control like last time. He then accused him of being so messy, that ambulance had to take him out in a stretcher. My friend had never been kicked out of the Mayan nor been taken away in a stretcher. He threatened, again very aggressively, that hed kick him and his entire group of even one of them got messy. The staff is as low in quality as they come.
Nightmare for asthmatics. I did a medical treatment before hand to be safe, and yet there was so much smoking and vaping that I had to leave within an hour.I know they have the smoking set up outside, but its right by the door and the wind brings it inside. The band was good and the music great but since I couldnt breath and was ready to call an ambulance, It was a bad experience. To Mayan management: Please consider moving the smoke locations to maybe just 1 as far from the door as possible rather than 4 locations right out side the doors that are next to ALL the dance floors?Thank you
Stunning architecture and a nice layout. Very diverse venue, serving triple duty as a concert and wrestling venue, as well as a dope night club that makes great use out of three floors. Hot spot if Latin music is your twist.
Im certainly not the person whom the Mayan caters to, Im more of a dive bar guy, the club atmosphere just doesnt do it for me. On a Saturday night, celebrating my girlfriends cousins birthday, we made our way to the Mayan. I can see what people like, plenty of people, drinks, and rooms blasting with your preferred flavor of latin music. We actually found one spot that was cool, up on what seemed like the third floor in the cheap seats of the theater was a small area to dance and kick back. I dont see myself asking to go back to the Mayan, but wont be so oppose to it either.
Always my go to dance location
I love the Mayan. It captures the spirit of Mayan architecture especially with the ornate ceiling. Its vast size makes it a great venue for large dance parties. The music from the multilevel venue reverberates throughout the space with high intensity. There are two exterior staircases that go to open air spaces if you need to take a smoke break. There are many paid parking lots adjacent to the Mayan so you dont have to venture too far.
Great venue. Saw The Kills. Sound was amazing thanks to the talented sound person. The vibe feels like you are in a Mayan cave. Bartenders friendly.
On March 2, 2019 we went to this place, The Mayan in Los Angeles California and everything was perfect but everything changed when we bought tequila. The American man who works there asked us for tip and I told him that we haven’t tried the tequila yet and youre already asking for money?? I did not like that!!! How can I tip if I haven’t tasted like the tequila?!
I saw Shinedown there last night and it was a great concert! It felt almost like I was in somebodys house because it was so personal and intimate. Im not sure why anybody has bad reviews about this place but I thought it was pretty awesome! It was almost impossible to have a bad view and its a classic beautiful theater thats been around since 1927. They even have separate entrances for under age and for people who want to drink. People say that they were frisked going into the place but if you consider where it is its not really a surprise. Its about a downtown as you can get, but we found it easy to get a spot to park in a very short walk to the theater. There was a long line to get in but at same time I really didnt take very long for us to get inside. The people inside were nice and as I said we had a fantastic spot to watch the venue! I would highly recommend seeing the favorite band there!

Great music. On Fridays only two rooms are open. Entrance was $12. One drink don Julio reposado on the rocks was $13. The room on the second floor they play cumbia, bachata sonidito and norteñas. The main floor is big on saturdays they have a live band I enjoyed the night. There is a young and older crowd all mixed but mostly old old so keep that in mind. We spotted like 2 cute guys in the whole crowd. Be careful on the stairs if you are drunk. Parking is available and costs $20 all night. Great hotdogs right outside. Belasco is next door and a hookah lounge is across the street. On Saturdays entrance was $20.
Came here last night to spend a friends bday. Entrance fee after 10pm was $12. Dont know if its less before 10pm. The drinks were not bad and then music was ok. The DJ that performed last night on the second floor really sucked. The DJs in the first floor were a bit better. Its a beautiful venue but the fjs didnt do it for me. Nonetheless I had a fun time. Cane dressed pretty formal, dress shirt, dress pants and dress shoes. I did see a few people with sneakers. I dont know if the dress code is enforced on Saturdays but on friday when I went, they were lenient.
The Mayan makes for a solid venue for both music and alternative pro wrestling alike. Very spacious and nice decor, with a spacious balcony for people to find a spot to chill if they need a breather from the floor. Need to take better advantage of concessions next time.
AWESOME environment, very cool decor. The staff seemed pretty good, but Im not sure how consistent that is from show to show. I would definitely see a show here again. Acoustics score is still TBD as 1 show isnt enough to make a determination.
Came here to see Lucha Vavoom with some friends and we had a blast! It was my first time here and I was really impressed by the Mayan Temple decor--I expected Indiana Jones and a boulder to come running by me at any moment. We sat at one of the cheap bleacher seats up at the top and had a great view of the stage since its still a pretty small theater. Even though we were far from the stage I felt like I still had a great view. During intermission my friends and I were taking advantage of the awesome breezes on the side stairwells but security shooed us away, boo. The drink prices were pretty much what youd expect at a typical LA venue--didnt seem out of step in any way. My friends and I saved a few bucks by parking a couple of blocks away on Broadway. Its a cool venue; Id definitely come back.
We had the worst experience ever with security. I was at the Grupo Niche concert with 3 of my friends Thursday 3/10/16. We were standing by the bar one of my friends was tipsy she said she was feeling sick so I asked the bartender if she had a trash can or something that my friend can throw up in. She handed me a bin. My friend ended up not throwing up then two securities show up and say shes tipsy you guys need to move away from the bar. So we start heading out. As we were walking we were walking we find about 4 security guys who then put their hands on my friend. Her husband said we are leaving why are grabbing her like that and grabbed one of the security guards that had her and said let her go dont grab her like that we are leaving. The security then turned to him pushed him and grab him by the neck and all you see is like 5 to 7 security personnel on top of him on the floor. They proceed to take him towards the door so we follow. They did not put him out the door instead they put him in this room next to the exit that looked like a bathroom and hit him and hold him for a good 5 to 10 minutes. As I saw this I started recording. Two security a male and female cover my phone and say you cant record in here this is private property. I told them youre not cops you cannot detain my friend, you can kick him out but you cant hold him. The female security then puts her hands on me and tries to grab my phone I step back and tell her not to touch me I was sober and if she touched me again I would hit her. I also told her not to touch my phone. Then they told me to get out so since they kept my friend inside I proceeded to call the police. They didnt let him go until they saw the police. This was my first time at Mayan Theate. The worst experience ever I will never go back or recommend to any of my friends. The owner should watch what kind of security he hires. I understand some people at bars get drunk and rowdy but that was not our case they told us you need to take her away from the bar so we were walking and then we were attacked by security. That was really uncalled for.
Eh. They dump out your water when you enter. They sell water bottles, for $5. The acoustics sound really bad, drowning out mid range sounds. The decorations are gaudy and tacky, they look like they were leftover props from a crappy movie. The security let a mosh pit start up in the front, just seemed kinda dangerous. I dont think concerts make sense here.
The moment, the experience. The quality of sound and lighting the amazing show of one of the merengue Latin music icon (Toño Rosario ) are going to be unforgettable . this place call the Mayan club can and will provide you with amazing night out experience
Their securities are rude and they need to inform where you need to line up. I arrived very early to be first in line and I turned to be like the 5th in line no biggie. But after many hours waiting in line people began to line up once it began to get close for the doors to open and once the lines were all long they informed us that the line we were all in is for 21 and up and that anyone younger had to make another line so i was forced out of the line and made to go to the end of the line of the other line which was pretty long. I was tired and had to pee and they were trying to put me in the end of the line even though I was here way before everyone in the line!! They seriously need to inform us in the beginning or atleast put up a sign so no one needs to go through that! The venue itself was nice but the drinks were more expensive than other venues Ive gone to.If youre under 21 line up on the left side of the venue.
The Mayan decor inside the club is brilliant (picture attached). Loads of space to walk around during gigs. A main bar on the ground floor and another small one worth checking out as you walk up to the Colosseum-type seating on the top floor too. Saw The Kills play there in 2012 from the heavens and sound was still awesome.
This place is pretty big. I came here to watch Nick Waterhouse perform and it was great and the bartender there was REALLY sexy. Aside from that, Ive used to come here for the nightclub in my early party years with two rooms of music which have great variety and its a lot of fun if you want to go out and dance the night away. Ive been here Fridays and Saturdays, and you can get in for free before a certain time if youre on the guest list, or use a coupon they sometimes give out to get in free as well. The main stage is Top 40, hip-hop, electro and the other one is the Mezzanine Room where they play salsa, merengue, reggaeton, bachata and cumbia. The only thing to be concerned about are all they guys that will not leave you alone until you dance with them.
The security guards here are not good they slap the girl from the club and they were laughing at her everyone saw.Everyone be careful with this security guard he aggressively rude and he hits women and push them they are not supposed to touch anyone.
We went to the concert, there was a slight delay, but in fact there were few places without delays. The sound quality is average. Bar with a good range and friendly bartenders! I recommend to visit.
Very cool venue. It feels like you are in an ancient Mayan ruin turned into club. The event i had seen was lucha va voom. It was a cool show of burlesque and lucha librador wrestling. They had 3 giant screens if you were too far away. The drinks were expensive $9 pint of beer. Parking is also challenging being downtown. Lot parking across the street $15.
Awesome place. The music was great, the atmosphere amazing and the detail in the building was amazing. Also didnt expect to see a live band there. Lots of fun.
I love the Mayan Club in LA. There are other dance clubs in LA but theres no other with the same atmosphere and the live bands are great! The size of the club is huge and theres always someone to dance with that knows how to dance. I would recommend to anyone coming from out of town. If you like the big club atmosphere, this is the place!
I loved this place because they place the music that i love, which is salsa, merengue, punta which they didnt play much i do not know why. the dance floor is pretty big. i love the fact that live groups go there and play which is amazing. the environment was really good.
Love the location All the staff super helpful and friendly! Shout out to the Manager Danny very friendly and accommodating, and All his staff .will recommend and will come again .fantastic music and fun
Beautiful theatre. WARNING: DO NOT LINE UP. REPEAT. DO NOT LINE UP. we wasted 45 minutes in the wrong line. They tell you when you get right up to the entrance. GO TO THE ENTRANCE as soon as you get there to avoid wasting 45 minutes then another line on top of that.
Got to see Hanson last night and the Mayan was awesome the staff took care of the super long lines fast and politely the place does look super old but with the lights it was cool, bathrooms were super clean and bar staff was great! All in all an awesome place to see your fave performers
The venue is really big for a midsize venue and has a lot of interesting places to sit and view the concert or event you are going to the Mayan to see. One of my many favorite venues to go to and see a show. Some updates could be done.
We had two tables for my friends and my BIRTHDAY! Great latin music, staff, Venue. I loved it people are nice! Upscale casual environment.
What more can one say when Rock Band Simple Minds played at The Mayan it was amazing made this place very special and unique to see!!!😎🥸🥂🍾
I cant tell you how much I love this venue. Its a art peice in itself with all the Mayan decor. Going to watch lucha vavoom there is like a life changing experience. I also saw Kinky play at the venue before the remodeled it and that was amazing as well. The venue is really big for a midsize venue and has a lot of interesting places to sit and view the concert or event you are going to the mayan to see. One of my many favorite venues to go to and see a show.
Went to see the Pixies here and had a blast! Interior is modeled after Aztec structures which makes it a bit funky. Nice area of LA with plenty of parking nearby. They often have event like Lucha VaVoom and is a nightclub on the weekends.
Awesome venue ! Sound always good. Entry lines are fast
Have been coming here for a while but starting to be a disappointment. when the DJ on the 2nd floor refuses your music request and rather play the same songs 4 titim . After 12am, people get bored and they go downstairs. Too much repetition.
The music is good and big, that being said its really Hot inside you will get thirsty. If you want some water be ready to pay $4 for 16oz water. (no tap water is provided)
Went here a while ago and thought it was really fun. A few years later went with my girlfriend and its gone down hill. Hopefully they can come back from it. Very fun and interesting place to go
Love this place. We saw Hermeto Pascoal at The Mayan and was awesome.Very cool night club.
My second favorite club after the Onyx room in San Diego. If you love to dance Merengue, Salsa, Bachata and Reggaeton; this is the place to go, but just on Saturdays. I have never been there any other day.
The place is ok, drinks not to expensive but not good for concerts …unless you get the upper areas.
LOL some of the reviews on here made me laugh so hard I almost spit out my perrier, this is a great place, 9/10 from me, I love LA people and the LA vibe, as for the so called hoochie mamas well at least theyre still confident enough to keep doing their thing at their age right? Its a good place, just visit once and if you dont like it you never have to come back!
This place is dope, the vibe the music everything is awesome. must visit guys. I had fun at white costume party arranged by Opulent Temple. Do check it and have fun.#letsguide #OnGoogleMaps #pub #weekendvibes
Always a good time partying here with friends. The bar service is fast and efficient and wait times are at a minimum. Good times and great memories at one of the hottest clubs in Los Angeles!
Loved the music and the environment and big place to meet new peopleThe drinks were expensive $9 pint of beer.Nice place tje best rooms for dancing all night long with my girlfriend
With three different dance floors and a kitchsy Mayan aesthetic The Mayan is part LA slick and part middle brow suburban dancehall. Its fun if you are not too self-conscious and I like the downtown location.
Went to a concert here, parking is paid/lots. Line to get in was long, once in its fairly spacious. Sound and view was great. Would go again for a concert only.
Lucha-VAVOOOOM!!!!! on halloweeeeeen!!!!! 3.75stars (had big expectations)Finally got to cross this off my to-do-list. We showed up early so we could find a spot to sit on the second floor. Heard they have this on cinco de mayo and valentines too.Saw a lot of pole dancers, burlesque belly dancer, little people wrestlers, cheesy characters, poop throwing, etc.If youre aching for a unique LA experience then this is the place to go!TIP:- wear comfy shoes, youll be going up a lot of stairs unless you have vip seating- area is slightly ghetto so be careful- binoculars!
Security here is the worst they best whoever they choose. That’s why they are getting sued.
Pretty damn cool place to see a band like Powerflo and Bjororia rattle off the same sound I used to like twemtu hears ago when I was thirteen...and now its ok I guess. Good place not a great beer selection unless they had more then just Mexican beer and I wasnt privy to this information.
The 2nd floor is way to small to hot and the DJ kept repeating the music I heard the same songs 3 times followed by the same DJ effects it was like if a CD was playing on repeat
Keep to the theme. Uniforms Mayan attire. Mayan dancers both sexes. Acts. All modern club ofcourse. Keep the theme. Take it to the bar. Red vulcano, the banana, sun and moon drinks, etc... You have venue and people make it classy. Highend.
I Love it here ! three types of floors with different genres of music. (latin, reggetton, hip hop) ambiance is great!
So much fun!! missed this place. Parking was easy to find
Had so much fun at this place. Came for my birthday. Definitely should be more popular and full. They should allow less creepy men in there...
Fun to just hangout and dance. The place is dirty and not top quality but if you love Latin music its a good spot.
Annoying security guard took my cup when it was almost time to close.
Usually great place. Many sound mishaps. Last band I saw was very frustrated during their performance. Horrible acoustics. Not first time either
Drinks expensive and I asked for tap water but got given a $5 bottle instead. Entry was a mess and we qued for our tickets then were told to que again for entry !
Lol depression coming here dont ever ever come! Front guard big attitude cant believe here in the ghetto DTLA lol 😂 dang shame
Its a good place for a night out with close friends. Wouldnt take anybody here to impress them but its a good crowd and not overpriced.
Security lady was extremely rude. We are traveling from Nashville and we only had some headphones and a small speaker. We asked her what we could do since we are traveling from long distance. She would not listen and had an attitude for no reason.
Like the 3 floors for the difference of music . There is seating upstairs with pillows that makes is quiet good if you need to get away from the crowd ..
I came here for a XX event. It was not bad, it has plenty of space and multiple floors. Also, the most interesting man in the world made an appearance.
Excellent place to party ,never a long wait to get in, and things havent changed much
Great small venue, but to have a smoke our sue restroom, you have to be IDd to get back in...security takes this VERY serious..
One of the biggest disco balls in USA. Big venue with very cool decor
Great place to drink, dance and have a great time listening to live music,,and bottle service
Fun place to dance. So many people every time, and a great selection of music on all three floors
Interesting place, liked the live band on Saturday, gets a bit crowded. Has three dancerooms. Salsa one is the best
You get there. And they are doing some special event with $$$ price. Waste of time. Update your website
The place is fun they play Spanish music, It has an old vibe but its cool. They have two levels playing different kinds of music too.
Always a party scene with 3 different rooms for diff music choices.
Quite a unique venue. Not familiar with their regular operations, but its a visually stunning theater and a great place to catch a show.
Not what I expected at all. The music was good, spacious dance floors. The crowd was not bad. Overall a good experience.
Great space for events and dance parties. Not a great neighborhood, so pay attention to your surroundings when arriving and leaving.
I was there for Lucha Lavoom and it is a cool venue. There is plenty of parking available and the place was clean. The venue is on the older side.
TO THOSE IT MAY CONCERN, UPON MY WALKING UP TO BE CHECKED BY SECURITY I WAS IMMEDIATELY TURNED AROUND FOR HAVING ON BASKETBALL SHOES. WHEN IN FACT BEFORE I WENT TO THE HOLE IN THE WALL OF A PLACE I CHECKED THERE WEBSITE & CLEARLY SAW THE DRESS CODE WHICH IS WHY I WORE MY FORMAL TRUE RELIGION BOOTS. THERE WERE THREE WORKERS AT THE FRONT WHOM ALL DECLINED TO GIVE ME THERE NAMES. IT WAS 1 SECURITY GAURD & THE OTHER TWO ONE BEING A LATINO WOMAN ALL AGREED (IN THERE IGNORANCE) THAT I HAD ON BASKETBALL SHOES WHICH IF YOU WERE A 2ND GRADER YOU COULD TELL ONLY A FOOL WOULD PLAY BASKETBALL IN THOSE $300 BOOTS. I HAD AN ARRAY OF FRIENDS MEETING THERE FOR ONE OF MY COWORKERS BDAY. ME BEING THE ONLY ONE OF A DARKER SKIN TONE (KEEP IN MIND THIS IS A PREDOMINANT LATINO CROWD). IT WAS MY FIRST TIME BEING DISCRIMINATED AGAINST, ESPECIALLY BY MY FELLOW MINORITY. NUMEROUS OTHER PEOPLE WERE LET IN THAT I CLEARLY POINTED OUT WHO HAD ON VANS & BO BOS. I WAS UTTERLY UNSATISFIED WITH THE CUSTOMER SERVICE OF THE EMPLOYEES & ASHAMED TO BE A MINORITY WITH THE SECURITY GAURD (HES LATINO & IM BLACK) THIS ESTABLISHMENT GETS A ZERO STAR FROM ME & A LETTER TO THERE CORPORATE EXPLAINING MY DISSATISFACTION & HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE THERE STAFF GAVE ME!
Several different bar locations tucked away from the crowds make serving drinks quick and easy for customers to get.
I love Mayan it’s a great place to dance and pass a good time with friends Ive known this place since 2011
Always a good time at the mayan. Saturdays is the best night to go. Live band and 3 rooms with different music.
I love this place it has 3 different dance floors and in each one different music a must go I love it...
Cool place for gigs, went high to see animals as leaders and the contortionist!
Nice club, just wear a mask so you dont get covid.
Excellent place, a lot of beautiful people
Nice club. Good sound system. Didnt like the crowd. Expensive drinks too.
Very good music. Have lots of fun on any of the three levels when I visit.
Awesome club, 3 stories of fantastic historic theming, love it
I liked this place but the drinks were horrible who ever was bartender downstairs on 02/25/17was bad !!! I could even drink it 😝I bought 3 different drinks and 3 were disgusting!!!!!
Amazing service !! They have a bar for people 21 and up. Everything is redecorated. Amazing !!!
Attire: Dressyyeah right! my friend walked in here barefoot! lol

Food deejays cocktails are sitting. Early bird specials, Latin groves mixed with top forty and daily themes!
I was assaulted right outside the exit two days ago and the guards didn’t try to help

Had an awesome time here celebrating my birthday! Thank you for making it a memorable one!
This place used to be nice but now it went from classy to trashy.
Pretty awesome venue, sounded decent, pricey drinks though
Concert torito , in July, worse the floor, restrooms, again, are violations in California, attention towards customers, wrong concepts for business
Very nice place, good ambient, and amazing music 🎶
The staff are too strict and over bearing.
Great venue. Professional security, clean, strong drinks.
Had so much fun back on the day.. I havent gone back since the pandemic 😔
Waited the the line for hours and was inform d by the the door man that the entry is 70 dollars when it’s said 12.50 online, very misleading 😮
Great place for Latin live music. 3 rooms to party
Great sound in this venue. Seen the likes of The Kills and Portishead here
