Vernon Lanes

Old School Cool! This place is a real Vintage bowling alley. They have a basic scoring system but it does keep score. The lanes were nice and wet. I was told they were oiled daily. They have a great bar and coffee service. May actually be cooler to chill here than bowl.

The place itself is amazing. I love that it’s sometimes real low key. My only problem is the super greasy food. The fries and my burger was soaked. There was no flavor except oil, grease whatever.

Held a corporate event here in February. Awards in the bottom floor with the stage and catering/drinks then upstairs for friendly bowling. Great atmosphere, perfect size, great service. They were even able to help with things like proper lighting and set-up of media presentations and had the microphones/set-up ready to go. Highly recommend!

Wife and I went here on a date and had a great time. Great service and drinks were made well and fairly priced. Would recommend and plan to be back.

This place is a vibe - awesome spot to host an adult birthday party. Oldest bowling ally in Kentucky; upstairs has a handful of lanes and downstairs has pool and pinball machines. Food and service was above and beyond. My kids say this was their favorite meal in Louisville.

Remodelled with a bar, restaurant & bowling alley. Spoke with the manager & waitress, both friendly & informative. Enjoyed our lunch while watching some very untalented, but fun loving bowlers.

First time going in- was super surprised how it looked. Tried the Vegan carrot hot dog and crispy fries with curry ketchup dip, presentation was appealing but cheese sauce way too spicy for me and overpowered the marinated carrot. Also tried cauliflower buffalo dip and chips which was Delish! Cant wait to go back for bowling and some of their coffee cocktails.

Really cool old school bowling alley. We just didnt like the food. We loved the fries. But the pizza had these huge chunks of pork that wasnt good. And the pork sandwich lacked flavor. It was really beautiful inside. The service was great. We loved keeping our own score. Had a blast here. Just lost a star for the food

The food was amazing! The fries were so great. The server was awesome and the retro feel was perfect. My only complaint is the bowling was pricey. $15 a person per hour.

CHECK YOUR BANK ACCOUNT AFTER LEAVING THIS PLACE!!! They charged my card and some of my friends cards twice and the second charge took a week to fall off. The food was not great at all. Had to send the fried pickles back as they looked more like zucchini. The cheese on the nachos was thick and lumpy and the chicken on the nachos tasted like it came from a can. Also, they only have 8 lanes so be prepared to wait.

Love the retro bowling feel. Had a great experience. Food was surprisingly good. Down stairs live music and full bar too. Great place for group gatherings!

This was my first time visiting Vernon Lanes and I’ll be back! Bruce and his team are excellent, and the food and drinks were amazing. We (Mays Plastic Surgery) held an employee outing for 14 people and it was perfect. I also loved that there were plenty of vegetarian options as one of our employees is vegetarian. There was something for everyone. Thanks for hosting us!

This amazing 1918 bowling alley with its original eight wooden lanes has recently been renovated. There is a modern full bar, table seating and kitchen. The downstairs is a large event space with full stage, seating and huge bar.

Other than bowling, Vernon Lanes has some of the best food in Louisville that would rival some of the more popular restaurants in town. Appetizers such as the Vernon nachos and especially the Sloppy Joe egg rolls are fantastic!!For dinner we ordered the the fried chicken sandwich, the bacon cheeseburger flat bread pizza, and the Vernon burger. All were A+Service too was very good!We will be back!

Amanda and the staff were great! This was my first time bowling in years and it was really enjoyable. Loved the ambiance. The food was delicious! Everyone was super helpful and flexible to our birthday party celebration needs.Really appreciate the clean bathrooms too!

This place is such a great time with a killer atmosphere. They also have cool deals. Anytime I have people visit we always go bowling here.

We had exceptional service, food and fun at Vernon for my father-in-law’s 85th birthday party. Steve and Michelle took care of us like family! The food was delicious and the service was attentive, hospitable and personalized! We reserved the back room and three bowling lanes! We ordered drinks and apps which were delicious! The wings and flatbreads were the fav choice. We couldn’t have had a better time!

Bowling, trivia, bingo, OH MY! what I nice place to go during the weekday. BINGO WAS ABSOLUTELY FUN. They have bingo on Thursdays. The food was DELECTABLE! I had the nachos with chicken. Feel free to check my photos for more details.

Decent burger. Beer menu is a little weird because you can only get some things from the basement bar even though they share the same menu which is annoying.

What a great venue! The staff are all great - super friendly and the food is fantastic. If you like fried pickles - they may have the best in town!

I dont really like bowling and this place is fun. I read complaints that the staff is inattentive. However, that is not the case. They are very professional and kind there, and you can tell they like their jobs. However, they are not constantly bugging you and asking you if you need something which is I guess what some people want.

I took my team for a fun event and we had a blast. The staff was great and accommodating. The venue is super nice and the food was great.

Great place for groups and parties of all ages. There are only 8 lanes, which makes it perfect for large gatherings and events. Bar is well stocked with beer and liquor. Good services for food on site as well.

Vernon Lanes was fun for the whole family. The food and service were exceptional, parking was convenient, Bathrooms were clean, even my 85-year-old mother had a few strikes! My vegan daughter had so many options. We will definitely be back. My husband said he would love to take his team here for an afternoon.

Bartender upstairs put my buddies beer on my tab, even though my buddy paid cash for that one beer. We arent sure why or how that happened, but it did.The servers are very good, polite, and attentive.Food is good. I didnt care for the cheese that came with the pretzel sticks. It was not hot cheese, as in melted, it was something all together different from anything other restaurants serve. Dont be different just to be different.They have lots of games downstairs, like pool tables, foosball table, and pinball. And bowling

Stopped in Vernon Lanes to see what its like. My wife and I were blown away by how great it is. Vernon Lane is located at 1575 Story avenue on corner of Story and Frankfort. The historical building was a old bowling alley. Vernon lane has restored this space into a retro space. The restored 8 lane alleys are beautiful. More of the restoration contains a large open area with lots of seating and a U shaped bar. Food is available and it is delicious. My wife had a chickem sandwich and I had a shnitzel sandwich which was huge. Vernon Ln also has a separate large room for music and other entertainment. We found a awsome unique gem. You and your friends and family will love Vernon Lanes.

Great place to watch a Chelsea match! Great food, great service and if the club are playing poorly I could always go bowl instead.The chicken bites with a beer cheese is my favorite menu item.

I didnt actually partake of any food or beverages, was there to see adult school of rock with some friends, we had a great time, the place was full and convivial, lots of pool tables and dart boards, stage for the band, everyone enjoyed themselves. I havent bowled in decades but could easily come here to do it, I do love the atmosphere there.

Gave them 4 stars; will upgrade to 5 when their equipment keeps working or staff is present to fix it fast. Hopefully they can get this going. Counter staff is always top notch super friendly, nice and helpful 🌟 and theres a nice selection of beverages! Another plus is their cool music!

I reserved three bowling lanes for my birthday last month and it was a fantastic experience all around.Before the party: Their reservation system allows you to book up to a month in advance. When I had some questions regarding lane limits and party size, they were more than responsive via email and extremely helpful.The day of the party: Check-in was a breeze and everyone was able to grab their shoes. For parties, you do have to check in with a credit card. (NOTE HERE: One thing I was slightly salty about was the automatic gratuity added for the multiple lane reservation. Im sure they have their reasons, I was planning to tip overall and I didnt have it removed from my bill, but be aware that this is a practice at this establishment.)You do keep your own score using a digital app embedded into the lanes, but its easy and fun. The lanes itself have a really cool neon retro vibe, and the food and drinks I consumed were really good.Overall a great experience and I will absolutely be returning.

Only 8 lanes, there was a 3 hr wait for bowling at 9 PM on a Saturday night. Bar area downstairs is large and bartenders were very attentive. Food was quality and fast.

Looked like a neighborhood attraction, friendly servers kept tables cleaned up, even gave my daughter a hat , just being friendly; there are 8 bowling lanes, and lots of tables & TVs upstairs, many other activities downstairs, darts, pool, video games... signs said restrooms were downstairs, so not sure if there are accessible restrooms on level 1... also, they have a parking lot, but it was full @ 7p on Saturday

Loved this place except you have to keep your own score. That sucks. Who wants to concentrate on scoring when bowing? At least show how many pins we knocked down. It’s hard to see the pins in the back. But other that it is a very nice place to bowl and have beverages.

The staff is so awesome! We had a group of teens and they welcomed us openly, helped us with our many drink orders, and we had the best time! Thank you all for everything!

Great experience and low price that includes shoes. $15 normally for an hour, $13 on Friday the 13th and Women are half-price on Thursday. Beer and cocktail selection was good. Free concert below and we went dancing after bowling.

Food overpriced and over spiced. Selection of bowling balls for adults with large hands is limited. It’s a cool atmosphere. But definitely not worth the money in my opinion. $200 for five people to eat an entree and bowl.

Had a work party there. Working with them was great, mainly thru email. Food was set up when we got there, staff was super helpful, food was great. Played darts and pool. Would totally recommend for a group setting.

Been here probably 20 times now and everything‘s always great. Love the vibe, the staff, and one of the most slept on vegan menus in Louisville! And I’m not even vegetarian. Order the smoked carrot corndog, trust me!

We showed up about 10-15 minutes early for our reservation and they were able to put us on our lane immediately, which was great. The people using the next lane in our shared area were overcrowding the space so the lady that checked us in said we could bring down an extra chair or two. A moment later the owner comes down and dramatically lifts the chair over the railing and barks that it is a fire hazard after I inform him I was told to do so. He didn’t care that the older people in our lane needed a spot to sit. He then went and yelled at the nice lady trying to solve some of the problems for telling us we could bring down a chair. Our lane had repeated issues with the pins during our 1 hour reservation. A few minutes before our hour was up another employee came over and told us that we could not finish our one and only game so we had to quit during the 8th frame because the next reservation was to begin. Absolutely will not return.

This place is a true gem! In-house dining with great food. Fully stocked bar. 8 bowling lanes. My friend referred to this place as cute bowling. And I guess thats one way to put it! Its set up with such a neat atmosphere that helps create a unique experience outside of any other bowling alley you have ever been to. Reserve lanes online. Walk in to eat and drink anytime.

I don’t understand how this has so many good reviews. This was the worst run business I’ve ever been to. All the staff seemed like it was their first day. The servers for the bowling lanes rarely showed up and the bar staff acted like we were annoying them. They forgot about my drink and messed up our food. The bowling lanes constantly malfunctioned and kept resetting the pins randomly. The manager had to cash us out because they couldn’t find our tab.

Very cool atmosphere, loved the lanes and lights above. The service was fair, we had to wait awhile at the bar to be recognized. Only encountered one friendly employee, everyone else was just there. Wish it was more clear on the process of ordering food/drinks. Some tables were being served, while we never got approached so we went to the bar to order. It would be helpful to have online ordering where you can put in your table number and they just bring your order to you. I’d definitely visit again, but leave more time to account for possible wait for a lane to open up. We waited about 45-50mins.

Did not get a chance to go there. My rating is based on a conversation with a manager. I cancelled 96 hours in advance and was charged $80 for a reservation. I called and was told a manager would call me back and let me know when refund applied. No email, no call on the refund. I called again. Left message. I got a rude gentleman to that called back to tell me I should use email to communicate. The refund was done but it might be several days which is fine. My problem was the tone and a condescending attitude in the conversation. I will never try this venue!!!! Customer service means a lot to me and I will not fund an organization like this. Especially when I was a potential new customer and this was the initial encounter with them. Very sad. We bowl a lot and was hoping to find a new place to go.

The service was horrible. Our server barely even stopped by our lane and 3 of our orders were messed up when they finally did come out. Even just ordering at the bar was nearly impossible because they were so slow. Halfway through bowling our lane stopped working. Not to mention the fact that nowhere on my reservation did it clarify that our party would have to be on two lanes so I was paying double what I thought I was. Overall, it’s way too expensive for not nearly the service that should be offered.

I play in a weekly dart league and we play downstairs. I havent bowled there yet even though it looks awesome. The staff is great, the downstairs bar is amazing. You wouldnt know it was there just by driving by.

Really great venue! We use it as a work holiday party and it fit us well. We had a hard time with parking, as the party in front of us extended their time. We had a large party and it threw us off a bit, but we figured it out.

First time coming here and not as many lanes as some bowling alleys but nice. Didnt like that you have to manually keep your own score.

Had an early birthday party on St Patrick’s day and it was perfect! The place is beautiful and the renovations make it a fun spot to do more than bowl. I can’t wait to go back and spend some time downstairs in the bar. The staff was so helpful and patient with our party! I will definitely go back! Thank you everyone!

Wood was great as our server and very helpful on questions about the menu. The Vernon burger was perfect. My husband had the schnitzel and said it was great! We tried the sloppy Joe wontons and we were surprised on how good they were! I didnt care for the curry ketchup so will try a different dipping sauce next time. Everything was fresh and hot! We went for a staff outing and really enjoyed the space. There’s bowling upstairs and then more games, pool, and drinks downstairs. They had a few vegan food items on the menu as well as a great drink list. It’s definitely a great spot to chill with some friends after a workday. The cost is great as well!

It is nice place. Small but neat. It is nice to be bowling but it is quite slippery, have to be cautious with it. I enjoy the beer and food. It is fun foe date or with friends.

We went for a large party and honestly it seemed like they were very frustrated we held the event there, they definitely didnt want the business. Bartender was very rude. The lanes need serious work, they are uneven and in need of repair. The place is very fun though, they have something here that works, they just need to take that extra mile to make it 5 stars. I hope they make it, we need places like this.

Highly recommend everything. i had an amazing night here.the food was absolutely amazing. i highly recommend anything that had to do with pickles. probably the best i have had in louisville. the vegan burger was amazing. they had a good range of food for anyone. it really makes me happy that they labeled everything vegetarian vegan and gluten-free.the drinks were fabulous. i had their margaritas and they were one of the best. i also never had a green tea shot before going here and now is going to be my new shot order.the speed at which they bring your food out and better than jimmy johns and if not they automatically apologize.finally bowling is always fun not matter if it’s your first time or if you’re a pro.

This is a pretty cool place, but not a pro bowling alley by any means. The scoring is not automatic so you have to manually count pins and input manually on the iPad-like screen at the lane desk. No pro shop, 8 lanes that are old and the balls get stuck often and dinged up so be careful if you bring your own ball! They dont rent shoes, it runs an average of $15 for an hour of lane, and they have some 5 finger balls to try out too. Bowling aside, if you want a casual place to take a date, this is a really cool spot. Theres lots of private nooks to chill in and eat and drink. The menu for food and drinks is amazing and not at all the typical bowling alley fare. It smells great and the speakers thump throughout the whole place. It has the feel of a basement pub with a surprsingly large bar area and is wheelchair accessible (although its a bit tight). Lots of parking and conveniently located at the base of an on ramp to the interstate. The staff is friendly and after 10pm the price for an hour of bowling goes to $10. Sorry, no glow bowl or special bowling features but they have a small league on Mondays. UPDATE: There’s also a great down stairs area with pool table, a stage, various games, and another bar!

Went for my birthday, and will definitely be returning. The service was great, the drink selection was excellent, and of course the bowling was a great time. Dani was an especially gracious host, but the whole team was completely on point. 10/10 will go again.

Great little hangout and the bowling was fun. 1 hour of play for $7.50 is a decent price. You can just practice bowl or play a whole game of bowl with friends. I highly recommend this place for some family fun!!!

This is a great spot, awesome atmosphere, and no matter what time of day, not fun for kids. I took my kids over winter break and got there when they opened. They made me feel like I was inconveincing them by bringing my kids, with numerous eye rolls between the bartender and server (who got our shoes.) They dont have bumpers and we had issues with our lane so we only got in 5 rounds in an hour and had to quit. Even at the $7.50 a person rate (which somehow they told me the group rate was cheaper, at $60 for 6 people) which doesnt work out, I dont think it was worth it. Plan on spending at least 2 hours here to play and dont bother taking your kids to this sweet place. Its cool but the kids wont care and the eye rolls killed me.

Very unique and interesting place. Good food but the environment makes it slightly confusing on your first visit. Seat yourself and there is more seating downstairs. Overall a very cool place

Steven was really nice. He told us about the alley and its history and let us bowl as long as we wanted. It is half price weekdays. Fun way to spend an afternoon with my boys!

Great food, great service, great atmosphere. They have a good selection of beer, full bar and plenty of things to keep you entertained.So far, I have had the Nachos, Burger, Chicken Sandwich, and of course their fries. They offer several dipping sauces for the fries - all of which are very good.

The upstairs is top notch.The downstairs felt a little barren to me. A little cold. KaraOke set up is nice. With the multiple screens and the option of singing on the stage everyone was friendly. Def. Worth a look.

I didnt get a chance to bowl unfortunately but that wasnt their fault. They highly recommend reservations and I was dumb and didnt make one. I felt like the atmosphere was really cool though and will definitely be coming back when I get the next chance.

Bowlers beware. The autogratuity is absurd on BOWLING! 20%?!? For no service what so ever. You order at the bar and tip and then get surprised by paying at the end of bowling and get an autogratuity! No warning before. I think it is illegal

Cool hangout spot for food and drinks even if you dont want to bowl. Great food and good selection of drinks. If you want to bowl its a good idea to make a reservation before you go, especiallyon a Saturday evening when we were there. Pork carnitas sandwich was good and loved the fries. Reminded me of Penn Station fries but better. Huge bar downstairs. Definitely will be back.

Went here for a date night. The food was absolutely phenomenal, the service was excellent, drink menu was on point and the bowling itself was incredibly fun. Honestly the best time we have ever had in a bowling alley. Highly recommended to anyone.

Newly revamped. Nice and clean, food was good. Service was excellent. They have all the elements for a great time. You don’t have to bowl when you come, it’s a great place to watch a game or other television event and have some food and drinks. Bowling is an added plus. We will definitely be back soon.

Killer vintage lanes! This was our first time at Vernon Lanes and we had a great time. The real wood lanes make for an interesting bowling experience as the balls roll their way down to the pins. The sounds and lights of the old lanes really speak to my heart. The staff was incredible and super friendly. The food is dynamite. Good stuff!

Obscenely expensive. We had 8 people, so two lanes, for two hours on a Friday night. Paid $320 ($80/lane/hour) plus they added auto gratuity to our bar tabs and included the bowling in the total. What should have been a $15 tip on a $75 alcohol bill was instead an $80 tip.Bowling should not be a $500+ night out.In comparison, had we gone elsewhere (somewhere “Fun”), bowling would have been $136 for lanes and shoe rental for the same group.Also, keeping your own score isn’t fun and vintage, it’s a pain.

We made a reservation for 10 people for a birthday party, arrived early to eat and they gave our lanes away to someone else while we are. Don’t go if you want to have a plan. Food is also only 50% worth it. Just go somewhere else and enjoy your time.

Small Intimate Space for private or family outing. Cute place for a first date. Great easy atmosphere. Only about 10 lanes. Food ok but truly non traditional for a bowling alley. Drinks were great. However the bowling experience was a lil more expensive than expected.

Terrible experience. Incredibly expensive at $20 per person per hour. Manager asked us to leave before we were even done with our game and had paid for the next hour because others had arrived. Sorry. Not my problem girl.You have to score yourself on these iPads they set up. $200 for 4 games and no food and you have to score yourself? It’s a joke. Go to another bowling alley and save money and frustration. Was excited to hear Vernon Lanes was reopening, but this place is a disaster.

Went on memorial day... $15 per person per lane. Three friends spending $45 for one hour on terribly old and used wood lanes that have no oil on them. No automated scoring system, gotta write your own scores down. Will not be returning.

Terrible owner. He booked my friends band, forgot he did, and was rude until they proved he booked them. Then, they played for 2 hours, brought 15 people to watch them play (the ONLY people at the venue), and he stiffed them.On top of that the place is ALWAYS empty. Servers are fine. Owner is just terrible at his job and bad person to boot.

Found this place thru friends. They just opened. Oh my god, the food is the best. You have to try the sloppy joe egg rolls and BBQ pork carnitas, everything was spot on. House fries are a must get too. Tried 4 of the sauces, ranch, lime cream, gojuchang maple and lemon herb aioli. All were fantastic. A hidden gem.

Great time on New Years Eve. The food and service was terrific. And great price for several hours of fun. Well definitely be back.

Got the nachos Carnitas. Made with beer cheese (odd). Very salty chips. Carnitas were mostly fat and bones. Bowling was great. Service was great. You are required to manually count you’re knocked over pins.

We had a blast there with the family! It was clean, the service was great, and we tried the food. The fries are crispy and delicious!

When we were in Louisville this weekend for an event we definitely enjoyed our first time at the revamped Vernon Lanes. I had a delicious craft beer at the bar and enjoyed some bowling with my friends. I would highly recommend it.

Not only one of the oldest original hardwood bowling lanes in operation in the nation!!!!But also a great place to come and sit with friends and watch sports on 30+ tvs, eat great local food with gluten free and vegan options. Great domestic and local craft beers with 20 taps, craft cocktails, and desserts upon request.Theres an event space downstairs for parties, DJs and bands to play. Ample parking and in walking distance to other bars, music venues, Lynn Stadium and Waterfront Park!!

Met the Bar manager today. Hes a great dude. The food is Phenom and giant portions. I think the fries are the best Ive ever had.

Went there on a Friday night and we were the only ones there and we still got bad service, never going back. If you want one of the many bourbons they have, you have to wait to talk to the owner. The bartender had no idea how much stuff costs, even though she is not new. Then once you do talk to the owner, he seems to make up the prices as he goes. I was going to spend some $$ on a pour for my whole party, but it was SOOOOO over priced and such a BS hustle. Over priced bowling too. Nice place, but its gonna stay empty on a Friday night until yall care about your customers.

Beautiful renovation of a historic bowling alley with the welcome addition of a delicious kitchen and lots of seating and tvs for sports watching. Looking forward to spending a lot of time there. Plus fast, friendly service!!

Nice vintage bowling experience. Parking is VERY LIMITED if you have a large party coming. I really enjoyed the French fries.

This place is a joke. They clearly only care about taking your money for alcohol. If you are serious about bowling, avoid this place. You have to keep your own score and the lanes were not properly maintained or oiled.

Held our holiday party here, and they created a great time for everyone. Amazing food, beers, cocktails and of course the bowling!

I hadnt been to Vernon Lanes in a few years. Between then and now, it has been acquired by new ownership and renovated; It looks amazing and I had a great time!I look forward to visiting again soon.

Absolutely great place. Clean and the managers are very accommodating.The history just engulfs you when you walk around, To know that Pete Weber and Earl Anthony and Mark Roth have bowled here is great.For all you experienced bowlers - whatever you do, do not, bring your aggressive arsenal - if you do, be ready for your ball to hook into the gutter half way down. Bring your plastic and have a blast.The lanes are original wood and you can see the history on the lanes.If I did not have to drive 1 hour one way, I would become a regular and maybe try convincing ownership to start leagues again.

Drinks are a bit pricey. The bowling is too compared with larger bowling alleys but its such a lovely place that it never feels like Ive overpaid.

Cool spot, great neighborhood vibe. Good bar food, catfish sandwich was excellent and huge, carrot-dog was interesting.

Enjoyed Karaoke with our fav Karaoke Jock, Muffy Junes, as well as dinner and adult beverages. This is our usual Tuesday night venue....

Awesome little place for a fun night! Bowling upstairs and a whole billards downstairs.

Its a nice little quaint spot. You have to take scores manually, Im a beginner so that takes a way from the activity a bit. But its also a learning endeavor.

If I could rate this place 10 stars, I would. My husband bowled the best game of his life here and the food is some of the best in Louisville.

Great experience my first time going in. Great waitress/bartender and the food was fantastic.

Owner is amazing, service not so much. Bartender is a condescending gas bag with zero customer service and no couth.

Came in tonight was told it would be an hour wait so my party waited the hour. When that hour passed we were then told it would be another 2 hours. I find this very unprofessional and unfortunate. This was my first and last time at this establishment
