I’ve been coming to the refinery for many, many years! Overall, I’ve had great wax services!The only exception is with Stephanie who now for the second time getting her over the last few years, runs 15-20 minutes late which is disappointing/frustrating and disrespectful to clients - especially when you are a busy professionally trying to plan for your 15 minute service. It seems Stephanie should schedule more time for her waxing services. I will make sure I no longer book with her.All other estheticians are amazing! (AnMarie, Aspen, etc!)

Easy to find parking within a short walking distance. The salon is very clean and the staff is very welcoming. I had a brow wax and tint. Stephanie talked me through what she suggested and my brows came out better than I could have imagined. I booked my follow up appointment on my way out.

I have gone to Leo for massages twice in the past month and am SO glad and grateful I have connected with them!Leo has incredible healing touch- using strength, focus, wisdom and mindfulness to move through muscle knots and tension with skill and care. Their excellence at their craft has helped release some immense pain and stress from my body: especially neck and shoulders, as well as throughout the back which were my focus requests; I have been suffering from severe tension headaches, often daily, and their massages have helped immensely.Leo has a kind presence and seems to connect with clients in a special way- as I was leaving my last appointment their next client and I chatted, she said she has been seeing Leo for many months- a testament to excellence!I hope my rave review does not reduce their availability ;) as I intend to continue seeing them as frequently as I am able to.The cost is reasonable and accessible, appointment times have excellent range and the physical space is relaxing and pleasant.I had one 60 min appointment, which I loved and a 30 min appointment due to scheduling availability which was surprisingly thorough for the short duration- I just wanted more, yet was grateful for what I have.I have also had excellent waxing experiences, especially with Emily. Friendly, professional, thorough, detailed and mindful/ compassionate towards body insecurities and vulnerabilities. Wax services were full leg and Brazilian :)

I recently went to The Refinery for eyebrow and eyelash lamination. Both the different ladies who did my service made sure I knew the process beforehand as well as walked me through the process during the lamination since it was my first time.I am very pleased with my eyelash tint and lamination. All I have to do in the morning is curl my lashes and Im set. It provides great lift and color. This service was done by a very nice lady and was very relaxing.I got an eyebrow lamination as well provided by a different lady. I am not that pleased with my results. My eyebrows only stuck in one position for two days when it is supposed to hold shape for about a month, so I was told. Due to this, I am giving a 4-star review instead of a 5.Overall, I enjoyed most things about The Refinery, like the customer service, the place itself, and the eyelash tint/lamination. Just would not recommend the eyebrow lamination.

The customer service is really good, everyone is very nice. The establishment is very clean and spacious.My rating comes from the waxing technique and chosen wax substance. I received a Brazilian and underarm wax. The underarm was decent.The Brazilian technique consisted of several small pulls. I am used to 3-5 big pulls and then some cleanup.It was simply very uncomfortable and kinda felt unnecessary, but maybe it was since I had a slight skin issue at the time of service. Overall, I wouldn’t recommend unless a person is used to the several (12-20) pulls technique.

Have been numerous times to have leg, Brazilian and bikini waxes by Amy. She is so amazing! Highly recommend her and the Refinery.

I happened to luck out with the owner. First time I have never gotten weird bumps after a wax. Not sure if it was her brilliant technique or aftercare suggestion either way I see why she’s the owner lol…thank you. 2 weeks still no bumps hair growing back slowly…

I have been going to Amy for a while now since I moved to MN & she is the best. She takes her time, fast and quick, and makes you feel very comfortable. Always nice and sweet. I love the environment as well, very clean and cozy.

I contacted them to inquire about lightening the color of my eyebrows from their natural shade. However, instead of providing a response, they abruptly ended the call. I made a second attempt to reach out, and once again, after asking the question, they disconnected the call. A simple no, we dont offer that service would have sufficed.

I currently live near the UMN campus, and Refinery has very quickly become my go-to. Yes, its in a super convenient location, but its genuinely a great business. The staff is always so kind and fun to talk to... *Certain* types of waxes can be pretty awkward with the wrong person doing them, but Ive never run into that here. Ive seen a different lady every time, and each has been super kind, funny, and chatty, enough to keep my mind off of the pain of waxing! I also had a massage here once a few years ago, which was great. Prices are super fair and transparent (no surprise fees at checkout, like some places), the space itself is clean and comfortable, and its just generally a good environment. Whether youre a student in the area or miles away looking for a new place, I definitely recommend Refinery!

I usually have a really great experience at this place. I’ve gotten underarms, Brazilians, and my brows done in the past. But this last time I went to go get my under arms waxed the aesthetician waxed them too much and left my skin red and irritated. It actually stung so much that I couldn’t wear a shirt. To soothe it I used olive oil and tea tree oil. I’m definitely planning on coming back here, I just think it was the aesthetician who did my arms this time around.

AMAZING! I drive 20+ miles to this salon for all skin care and waxing needs. The girls are all so great to work with, pricing is extremely reasonable. You can tell the owners take care of their employees! Holly! Youre amazing, best waxes ever and every recommendation youve given for skin care from products to facials and peels have worked wonders! I wanted to use this business, and was able to grab an appointment at the last minute but I absentmindedly forgot about it. They called to remind me (after the start time) and then told me if I no-show, I will have to pay. Id never been there before so I thought I could ask for a pass, just this time (because the appointment would have otherwise likely not been filled as I was able to schedule so last-minute) but they proceeded to ask for my payment information. I declined (having not signed any contract to their policy) and they told me if I didnt pay for the no-show they would never serve me in the future. I guess Im happy for them that their business is so successful that they can easily turn away potential clients, but for me its buh bye.

Amy is the best she is also very gentle with sensitive skin and she’s always so informs me on the best after care instructions. The conversation is never lackluster. She enjoys what she does and it translates into her work.

I recently went there for a wax. I wanted to try it out because of the good price. For Brazilian wax it was around $35-40, and other places were $60+. This isn’t my first time, I have been getting waxed around 4 years now. BUT when I went to my appointment, my service wasn’t what I thought I was getting my self into.First to inform you, I am rating the person who waxed me, NOT everyone there because people have different ways of doing Service.My lady first told me to undress pants down, and didn’t even ask me if I was comfortable or wanted privacy when I do. She didn’t leave the room to give me a chance to undress. She just stood there with her back to me, that can still be uncomfortable for some people. Before she started, her equipment looked like a used dryed up candle that the wax had been dripped on the side and dryed up. It looked like it had layers of build up, and wasn’t clean off. You can see the layer wax on and can not tell if the container is there or not.She did not pre me with any baby power or wipes to “clean” my Area. She didn’t want to have small talk and didn’t want to answer some of my questions. After she was done, she talked fast like she wanted to rush her time during the appointment.I don’t think I’ll go back, it’s not worth the money. I would rather spend my money on better service!!

I went to get my eyebrows waxed and the lady did my eyebrows didn’t even ask how I was doing. I was the one the started the conversation. She didn’t even engage much or ask questions. Perhaps she was tired of talking of people or that’s just how her personality was. In addition, I asked her specifically not to change the shape of my eyebrow and she went through and reshaped it. I didn’t like it. A little disappointed with that. Making the appointment and scheduling was fine. The front desk was fine as well.

I highly recommend Michelle! The refinery is extremely clean, professional, and Michelle is the best. She is experienced, knowledgeable, and put me at ease.

I went in for a brow wax, I had Friendly staff. I was comfortable the entire time. She assured me that everything was clean an sanitized an I could see that which was nice to see. Would recommend an go again.

If you are looking forward to a nice, relaxing, and most importantly an afford place for a facial then I would highly recommend this place. I’ve been coming here for the past five years and hands down a place I would always return. I’ve tried many estheticians here but my go to person is always Alyssa. She is very detailed, educated about skincare, and is great at giving head and neck massage. The only complaint I have is the poor customer service for the receptionists. There has been many unpleasant interaction with the receptionists that I would say stopping me from wanting to come back. Receptionists are the face of the business. Greeting customers with a must and please act like you want to be here as much as I do.

I have been going there off and on for several years. Not going there anymore. Once you miss three appointments throughout one year you have to prepay to even be seen. I don’t mind doing that but I haven’t missed any appointments for almost a year and they won’t reverse the policy. Not going to waste my time or money going there anymore. They’re not the only place for business and I have been loyal to them for too long even after they increased their pricing.

I’ve seen a few people for waxing here, and everyone follows sanitation guidelines, they’re so fast, nice people. I saw AnneMarie today and she is lovely. I’ve gone to Holly, also great. They’re the best!

This is someone I am happy to give money to, because I can tell she saw me more than a number walking in the door. I have been going to The Refinery for years now and I am so so happy I made the switch. Corinna is my go to, ALWAYS! I typically get a Brazilian and my sideburns done and shes quick and gentle. When dealing with body waxing of any part of your body, what more could ya ask for?! I highly recommend this establishment, but more specifically, Corinna. Shes the best!

Heres the thing, if you are looking for a wax where you just run in, have super quick service, and leave then this is the place for you. If you are looking for someone to do a very thorough job and some place that doesnt feel like theyre just running through clients, then this is not the place for you. The price is good, but after my experience, I would want to pay a bit more for a more thorough service and not feeling like I am just part of a long line of clients to get through. Ambiance is terrible, as it is just a big open room that was converted into small cubicles with high walls that do not reach the ceiling. That means you can hear everything that goes on around you. Like I said, if you want a wax that is quick, cheap, and safe in this is the place for you. If you want more, I would look elsewhere.

I have been to the refinery numerous times over the past several years. This was my first time getting a massage and it was absolutely divine. Leo was exceptional and this was definitely one of the best massages Ive received. I highly recommend it!!

I went to Amanda to get a lash lift. The result was almost identical to my natural lashes. Barely any curl. They offered to fix it in 24 hours but I wasn’t comfortable doing that for my lash health. At least they comped the service. Will not be going to this location again.

Having never had a wax before, I was a bit hesitant, but this place has since changed my mind completely! Ive seen a few different people and they have all been excellent! Appointments take about 15 mins for a Brazilian and they are always willing to reschedule when I need to. Definitely recommend!

IF YOU WANT A WAX, GO SOMEWHERE ELSE! Read some other reviews. Apparently Im not the only person who has had this experience....Ive gotten a wax there once before and they did a really good job however, I got my half leg wax and underarm wax from someone different this time. TOTAL WASTE OF MONEY! I might as well have just shaved which is what I ended up doing the next day. Not only that but the lady was totally unprofessional! Did not introduce herself. Took me to the room and did not even give me a chance to change before throwing me up on the table. She got wax all over my clothes. She speed through the process really unintentionally and took about half the time the service usually takes. I felt like she was trying to get me in and out as quickly as possible which seemed odd considering I was on time and it appeared to be a slow day. I get waxed a lot and have never had an experience this bad even at beauty schools! I walked out the door feeling stubbly, sticky and extremely unsatisfied! Needles to say I will not be returning!

I enjoy the refinery for my Brazilian waxes because they really try to get you out quickly. I only go to one esthetician because Ive always had a good experience with her. However, there has been several times my wax was canceled due to unforeseen circumstances which I totally understand but the one time I had to cancel my appt at the last minute I was penalized.

Alea is the best! I chose to get lip, under arm, Brazilian, and half leg and she made me feel as comfortable as possible through the entire experience. Not to mention she has over 11 years of experience so I imagine it took less time! Make sure to book ahead of time a she books out! Treat yourself!

Ive been going there for a while any usually have a good experience. I got to Alfton or Amy and they are amazing. I recently went and decided to go with Stephanie and she wasnt so great rough, not detailed and rushed. She slapped some oil on me after and completely forgot my crack so I had to wal out with my cheeks stuck together. Its a great place just choose wisely.

Got a massage by Chelsea. Well, I believe thats her name, Im awful at names--it was something with a C if not Chelsea. Either way, amazing. My back had so many knots that I was constantly in pain. She did such an amazing job of getting them out. If you say deep massage, be forewarned that IS what youll be getting--but thats exactly what I needed. The first floor is a little messy, but theyre going through remodeling so thats understandable--dont let that worry you, upstairs is great! I will definitely be back for more massages. Highly recommended.

I don’t think you can find better prices & value for waxing services!! The refinery isn’t the most glamorous/upscale salon in town, but it is clean, the staff is nice, and they get you in and out quickly.Totally recommend Amy and Stephanie! They are my go-to waxing queens

I have been seeing Alea at the Refinery for years and I wouldnt go anywhere else for a wax or facial. Amazing customer service, quality, and prices. Expect to plug a meter ($2) if you drive and do yourself a favor and give yourself some extra time to park. Small businesses like these make our community more vibrant!

I have been getting waxes here for a couple of years now! Afton works wonders on my eyebrows. Her attention to every hair and sense for the right shape and shade to tint is beyond what one would expect from any esthetician. She also can get you in and our for a Brazilian in record time. I specially see her and highly recommend her! I love the staff and vibe of The Refinery and will not go anywhere else.

I loved my experience at the refinery mostly just because how fast and efficient they are, check in is fast and my appointment with Alyssa was over in no time and I left just the way I wanted to, hairless! :) I’ve gotten waxed at other salons and I don’t know what it is but it was so less painful here! Great spot for quick and cheap waxing services - literally in and out in 10 minutes for a brazillian. I have seen several ladies for services and they have all been great - fast and they know what theyre doing. Dont come here if you want a fluffy spa-type wax.

Booked a lash lift and tint with my two daughters and am so disappointed. Technicians were nice, but rushed the service, and stained our skin badly with the lash tint!! My daughter looked like she had black eyes when we left. And my tech was SCRUBBING my eyes with dry paper to remove tint, which hurt. Not sure what the deal is my daughter has had this done before and nothing like this. And not great results we are all disappointed with our lashes. My daughters lashes looked amazing last time at a different salon. Not recommended we won’t be back.

The Refinery is top notch! Being a first timer, Afton made me feel so comfortable. She explained the whole process to me and (after the fact) would let me know if that particular area was going to be “the worst of it.” She is by far right that it gets better the more you go. Also, I followed the “strict” orders that she gave me not to shave in-between waxing, and the results are fantabulous. I wasn’t quite sure about the location at first, but it is a simple yet chic business. Waxing is their specialty and THEY DO IT WELL!!!

Came in to get an eyebrow wax and the staff were super nice and friendly. I however, am never getting my eyebrows done there again. I have naturally thick eyebrows and wanted a clean up, but I left with two different eyebrows that were over waxed! Im from out of state, but when I came home to my mom, whos an esthetician, she said, I have never seen your eyebrows this messed up.

Bought gift card with intention to do couples massage. Found out afterward they don’t have ability to do more than one massage at a time which is considerably inconvenient to have partners, friends etc wait around for each other. Requested refund but was not accommodated.Used to like this place but there’s been a noticeable drop in customer service.

I was originally referred to The Refinery by a friend of mine who regularly sees Ashley for her waxing. After seeing Ashley a few times myself, Im hooked! She is efficient yet thorough, and Ive never had a problem finding an appointment that works with my schedule.

Staff are very friendly and service was great. Aesthetics of the salon need major updates. While everything was clean and it all felt safe, it needed major updating and the rooms were very plain. Floor was also super sticky which was gross!

Every waxer Ive had here has been extremely fast, and I especially love Amy. Cheaper than most other waxing places, and you are in and out! Convenient.

The massage was only okay for the price. Didnt focus on my problem areas and the music was a bit annoying. Unfortunatly, I left there with a bad head ache and a very sore body as if I never even got a massage. My massage therapist also must have just eaten and kept burping in my face - which I found kinda funny.. and gross haha!

This has been a great experience since day one! Fast and professional. 8 years and I’ve not found someplace better. Parking can be a little crazy since it’s Dinkytown so I recommend planning to arrive a few minutes early to allow time to park.

I have been a client of the Refinery for around seven years. I have always been impressed with their service, clean facility and value. I drive across town just to see Afton and I will never cheat on her!

My friend and I went here one Saturday morning and we were in for a surprise. Both of us have been getting waxed every month at Waxing the City and decided to go somewhere else I think own since they closed. BOTH of us had our skin PEEL OFF. I’ve never had this happen before. I’m appalled.

Made my normal thick pretty eyebrows pencil thin trashy looking the week before my wedding, after I had specifically asked the lady to just clean them up. It looks absolutely horrible! They will butcher your face. And put hot wax directly on your eyelid in the process. Awful.
