Our family loves this place. Is it the best pizza in New Haven? Having tried all of them, it is among the best but hard to name “the” best. It is BY FAR the best for food, drink, service, and AMBIANCE. They have a good selection of beers on tap, a great salad, and great environment.

The small pizza is, in fact, huge. also got an excellent recommendation from the bartender for a beer (zombie something) while I was waiting for my pizza. all in all a great experience. nice space, nice people, great food and drink.

BAR pizza is truly to die for! Some of the best in New Haven, and that’s saying something!! They have so many different assortments of wood fired pizza, you truly can’t go wrong.

So far this has been the best pizza in new haven. Pepes is a busy Sallys is too expensive for what you get, here is pricey but much better quality. We got the mashed potatoes and bacon on a red pizza. It was very tasty and the potatoes are a bit strange on a pizza but they worked and were well seasoned.

Pizza had a nice thin crust (definitely started getting droopy once it had sat for a few minutes but the initial slices were crisp and delicious). The sausage was delicious and the pepperoni thin and rather bland. Although a little expensive, the sizes are amazing! Our waitress was friendly.

I have been testing pizza restaurants in New Haven, CT lately and I really enjoyed eating at the Bar. I went after lunch time so I was able to get a table quickly. I loved their pizza with cheese and pepperoni. The pizza was cooked perfectly and the flavor was excellent. The service was very friendly and prompt.

Was walking by and saw a huge crowd so stopped in. The wait was 40 min but we were able to sit at the Bar (ironically). Amazing pizza, I’m salivating now thinking about their “New Haven pizza” while I write this. Even the security guard was a reading a book which I thought really gave the whole “YALE” experience!

We HUSTLED to make it to BAR as soon as we stepped off our flight, and Im so glad we made it. Its the perfect place to grab an oversized late night slice and a beer (dont sleep on the mashed potato bacon!).

Great pizza! Right up there at the top with the neighboring spots. Went here before a show at shubert for the 1st time and loved the potatoe bacon and herbivore split. Note they only have pizza and salad!

Ok I 100% expected to hate the mashed potato pizza so I ordered extra flavors just in case. Not only did I not hate the mashed potato pizza, I LOVED it! And the other flavors I got too were just as good! This style of pizza is super unique and not quite like the other New Haven spots but dont sleep on it as their pies are no joke!!

After an extremely long day of traveling we ordered pizza from BAR. Given it was takeout, I feel like I cannot properly rate this pizza like it deserves. However, it was still great after traveling in the box! It was thin and just the right amount of cheesy. I plan on giving this pizza another try in the restaurant itself when we visit again.

I love this place. A great vibe. The pizza is so freaking good. Absolutely underrated and overlooked because of all of the pizza in New Haven. If you don’t want to wait in a massive line and you want great pizza, a great vibe with great drinks and tons of beer options, go to BAR. Love watching sports here and grabbing a bite. Plus awesome for a large group because of table set up inside.

Not my favorite style of pizza so take that with a grain of salt. Massive servings, really good salad. Our service was not the best, bartender got snippy with our group when we asked for another round. All in all average, I wont be back though.

Pizza is great! Very thin crust, if thats what you like. We ordered to-go and expected the large bowl of salad to be enough for 2-3 people. It is legitimately enough to feed 10! Probably more if theyre eating pizza also! Nice salad, but the portion was absurdly huge. Order the smaller size unless you have a big group!

So delicious! I grew up in New York and have been eating good pizza my entire life. This pizza is STELLAR! Bar is the perfect place to bring a bunch of friends, hang out, drink beer, and share some incredible pizza together. Its made pretty clear on their menu that these are house favorites but seriously, you will not regret getting the BBQ Brisket and Mashed Potato & Bacon pizzas. Theyre glorious little slices of heaven.

Been here a bunch of times great pizza, did a pizza crawl with some out of friends hit all the hot spots in new haven for pizza and they all loved Bar Pizza

Great drinks- great pizzaThey have some original ideas on pizza toppings, I say come check it out. The pizza is thin and crispy, yet soft. Very delicious.They make a good green tea shot and Id rank their Old Fashioned as one of the best Ive ever had.A touch pricey but In line with current prices...a small pizza with half roasted chicken on top, 2 shots and 4 cocktails ran just under 100 bucks.Definitely give it a try. I did not try any of the house beers they make... but I bet theyre excellent

I am glad to see there are plenty of people that like this pizza. Our experience was much different. Crust base was like a matzo cracker with sauce and toppings. Flavors of toppings were great and the list of pizza options were good. Crust is the base and was a let down, couldnt hold pizza and taste was more than lacking.

This is hands down some of the best pizza I’ve had in my entire life. I’m not from around here but I love good pizza. I tried Pepe’s and Modern and I ranked this pizza at the top. The dough is light, airy and crispy, fresh wonderful ingredients, great char. It was so good I went back two nights in a row! The mashed potato pizza is a must try. I will crave and dream about this pizza for eternity. The cocktails and beer were delicious also but come for the pizza!!!

BAR is a pizza place with an industrial brew pub vibe. The stone fired over pizza is basically the same as Sallys, Pepes, or Modern which means its good! The Mashed Potato Pizza is kind of overated. Better to get the Pepperoni. Its a good before we go out place and its on the same street block as a lot of the happening other young drinking night bars. BAR has DJ dance music in the back on Friday & Saturday with cool lights hanging down so this can be a double night spot where you eat pizza at 8pm then drink and dance from 9 pm on. Parking in this area is horrific so definitely try and all come in 1 car. A small car on any weekend night. If you are 21 to 30 this is probably a good vibe, hang with friends, drink and be social place. Lots of different beers on tap to try. I respect places that create a music atmosphere so give BAR credit for trying to be an event place. More jeans and casual dress than slacks or dresses. If you wear black you matched 70% of the people and thats just the under 30 vibe.Always use a napkin bib because that peperoni grease on the pizza will taste great but, stain your favorite T Shirt forever!

Best pizza in New Haven imo. The mashed potato pizza is no joke and is just SO GOOD. Salty bacon goes so well with the creamy potatoes all topped on a New Haven pie (crispy, thin, coal fired). Definitely not traditional, but who cares if it tastes good. The wait was expected to be 1 hour so we left to go wait at a local bar, but they texted us 10 minutes later to come back. That felt pretty silly but regardless, I wasn’t complaining.

My friends and I decided to stop by this establishment on a beautiful Saturday afternoon! The atmosphere was busy, vibrant, and the weather was perfect.We received attentive service by our waitress and she was very friendly and informative about the various pizza options available. The service was pretty quick too!I will say there is a lot of foot traffic if you sit in the outside space available as my friends and I did. (So there can be people walking past as you’re eating).The bathroom were also a solid 7/10

Bar’s a decent spot. Four stars because the service was very slow, we waited almost 45 minutes for our pizzas, and the waitress never came to check in, let us know, or refill our drinks. I also prefer my pizzas not to be burnt, which mine was all around the crust. Overall flavor of the pizza was good though.

I recently visited with a group of friends, hoping to enjoy the pizza. However, our experience was ruined by the incredibly rude bouncer at the entrance yesterday. We politely informed him that we were there just to eat, not to drink, but he dismissed us immediately, saying something along the lines of You wont drink, so youre not coming in.Its disappointing that a place we had looked forward to visiting would treat potential customers so poorly. A bouncers job is to ensure safety, not to judge or turn away customers based on assumptions. If youre looking for a place with good food and a welcoming atmosphere, Id suggest going elsewhere. This place clearly doesnt value all of its customers.

A must go place! Always delicious and fun. Hosted an out of state group for work and blew them away. The regular favorites are amazing (mashed potato bacon and Margarite)... But we tried the lobster pizza and it was sublime. Imagine the best lobster roll youve ever had!!! The beer selection is also really good.

The sausage on the pizza was one of a kind! Great selection of different beers and service was on top of everything!

The thin crust pizzas are truly remarkable. Tried their unique mashed potato pizza, and it was one of the most intriguing and delicious pizzas Ive had in recent times. The ambiance of the establishment is also quite impressive. It appears to be an old fire station that has been repurposed into a bar and restaurant.

Had high hopes for some great New Haven Pizza as I don’t live in the area. Chose Bar over Pepe’s, Sally’s and Modern. Was a bit of let down. Pizza tasted great but was very under cooked. As Dave on Barstool would say, it did not keep its integrity!

We had 4 pizzas, the Mexican, clam, eggplants, and margarita. Mexican elote and the white clam were tasty, but eggplants and margarita were tasteless and soggy. Service was fine, but I was blown away for the high price of $8 kombucha, which was not tasting like kombucha.

The service was amazing! We had an issue with the pizzas we ordered, but the manager was quick to handle it. He was super respectful to us, even willing to chat with us and listen to our opinions at 9:30pm on a Friday night!Here’s the issue we had: the meat pizza bottom was burnt black, but that was taken off the bill! The veggie pizza which was ordered off the menu, not personally created, was seemingly undercooked.My suggestion: limit the pizza toppings or ask for them light. And here’s why, THE CRUST IS SUPER THIN!

Saturday afternoon. Got lucky with street parking. Seated right away. Good service and good food and good atmosphere. No complaints. Mashed potato/ bacon pizza and margherita pizza were good.

Amazing pizza. The pie is thin and easy to eat. Flavorful and the perfect amount of sauce to cheese ratio. Definitely my go to spot in New Haven. Open late and tons of space indoors for seating. Pretty cool that they brew their own beer as well

I came in the evening in a weekend. There was a cover charge and I didnt understand why until I got inside. THREE BARS, PIZZA AND A CLUB ROOM?!!!! I was surprised. Im from out of state and came for the mash potato pizza. There were a lot of middle age and older men dressed nicely. The cocktails were great and beer selection is nice. The pizza was amazing. I liked the club area however the strobe lights werent going with music and if you have strobe induced seizures youll have a horrible time here. Other than the horrible strobe everything was great. No table service at night which is understandable. The pizza room is off the side with a nice full bar and plenty of seating. Middle bar is where the pizza and to go is at with beer on tap. Third bar is modern and cozy fully stocked and then the bathrooms which are clean and modern and then the club room. Pretty interesting layout but I really liked the warehouse / barn decor. Came for he pizza and will be back for the pizza.

Hands down the best mashed potato & bacon pizza in town. They’re BBQ brisket pizza is also really good!!! Drinks are affordable. All in all, a good vibe.

Stopped in before our show at the College St Music hall last night. BAR offered a great experience in everything: Service, food, and drinks. We sat at the bar in which our bartender was amazing, a great conversationalist, and even better mixologist (if you like spicy tequila drinks, this individual has created a game changer).The pizza is the best Ive ever had, hands down. Ive always heard that New Haven is the US pizza capital, and usually passed it off as exaggeration, but now Im a true believer. Its seriously the best. Order the margarita or portrait of new haven. You wont regret it and its phenomenal.

The pizza is great. If you like super super thin, this pizza is definitely for you. Staff was very friendly. The End of Watch beer was delicious and even better that they did it for a great cause.

Excellent pizza, thin crust, big portion, a variety of toppings! The space is chill, with an industrial feel. There are different local tap beers to choose from. I definitely will be back!

The salad was really good. Those candied walnuts were perfect. The famous mash potato pizza was excellent. I love the smell of smoke. Staff was incredibly friendly!! Nice beverage.

Cheese pizza was great specialty pizza has to many toppings which makes it soggy could go lighter on the toppings also sizes were out of wack small is probably 12 in feeds 3 people not your ordinary 8-10inch pie, staff was prompt but didnt interact very well ,drop off and go. no recommendations at all. atmosphere was good and beer was good as well

Cool speakeasy-like vibe. Pizza was tasty with New Haven standards however - watch those hot peppers. Theyve got a lot of kick and killed the rest of the flavor pretty fast.

Tasty thin pizza with nice portions. Loved the street corn Pizza. Buff chick was good but not for the faint of heart. Will go with a buffalo chicken pizza without the extras (olives, jalapenos etc) next time.Pizza pictures are mediums.

Came here with a couple of friends after work. The seasonal drinks were out of this world and the pizza we ordered was delicious - I can see why it is rated as one of the best pizzas in New Haven. The drink i got was called something like “Toasted Marshmallow Man” and I could have kept ordering more if I weren’t driving. Will be coming back!

Best delicious pizza I ate in recent times.1) Friendly staff2) Lots of options for build your own pizza3) speciality new haven pizza sause is tasty4) Pool table and beer brewing equipment are a nice scenery change5) Walkable from parking garage and a nice graffiti wall6) The below pizza are medium size which is a lot for medium 😀. So be cautious while ordering the Large unless you are quite hungry. I felt it’s little expensive too. But taste is worth it.

If you visit late night, be ready for them to let you know your presence is a burden. Thats a true shame for any business that ought to be stoked and ready to give you late-night great pizza regardless of their workload. Tonight was trash, and the door was locked 35 minutes before close. I was served COLD pizza with zero reservations for the quality. There is a reason the pizza here is thin and unsatisfying. I wouldnt eat here if I had been starving for days. Follow your gut instinct and mosey on.

OMG. that is what can be used to describe it. the pizzas were HUGE AF. i ordered a small and we shared it between myself and my friend and we went home with leftover! the staff was SUPER friendly. and they were really quick to get our order in and served. my friend ordered a drink and he said it was awesome! loved the decor and the layout!

Great atmosphere, my kids loved the atmosphere. But the pizza and salad were terrible. I wont be back at all.

A terrific place to get very good brick oven pizza along with freshly brewed beer. The space is huge with three active bars and room for large private parties. The atmosphere is loud but fun. The staff is friendly and helpful. The pizza and beer are a must!

We got the Carnivore and a build your own pizzas! It was absolutely phenomenal, it was our first time having New Haven style pizza and this place really knocked it out of the park! We will definitely be back next time we visit. Our drinks were also really good, I loved the Burbon Smash!

Order a clam pizza, casino style!! I got the spicy peppers on the side since I’m not a big fan, but so so delish!

Pizza was not New Haven style. More like a flavorless cracker with equally bland toppings. Service was not interested in working at all. Place was supposed to be open until 11, but the lights came on at 930 with no explanation. They even shut the music and TVs off to get people out of there as quickly as possible. Even though it was fairly crowded for a Monday night, they managed to clear the place out quickly since it was clear that they werent interested in having customers any more.

As a Chicagoan, was not impressed. Got the 1/2 clams pizza and mashed potato bacon. Not sure why people love this, was very dry. Also we got the medium pizza for 2 people and it was enormous (probably enough for 4 people), so get a small if just 2 people. Bar salad was good.

Pizza is super thin and crispy. My husband and i split a large cheese pie - looked at each other and asked what’s for dinner 🤣The atmosphere is nice but unfortunately our sever seemed disinterested. Never brought the second glass of wine we ordered and walked up to the bar ourselves to refill water.

Just discovered the great music scene in New Haven recently and will often stay overnight if seeing a show at Toads or College St. We make it a point to always go to BAR for pizza and drinks before a show! I personally think its the best New Haven style pizza. Service is great, drinks are fantastic and pizza beats out all the rest!! You will not be disappointed!

BBQ Brisket and New Haven house specialities are delicious!

Very nice place for dinner. They brew their own beer (4 different brews) and make delicious pizza. Especially the mashed potatoes with ham pizza is popular and can be recommended. The inside is rustic and modern with some large tables for big groups. With the large glass front towards the street and brewing tankes it creates a cosy and urban atmosphere. Service is very friendly and quick and gives good recommendations. Definitely worth a visit at least for a drink and a pizza and I will come back next time I am in New Haven.

Favorite pizza place in new haven along with Zeneli. The two places have different pizza styles though so go ti bar if youre for nhv style and go zeneli for napoli style. Other places are also good but theyre a bit overcrowded. Bar usually has no waits. Their mashed potato bacon pizza is really good. Need to bring your id since they check upon entering even though you dont order any drinks.

Pizza, Beer, Fresh Salad. No !!! REALLY good pizza !!! Go here sit, drink, eat, enjoy the downtown atmosphere. Had the White pizza w/Chicken and a Red pizza w/ Sausage & Bacon both were excellent. Wish they had Al Fredo sauce to go on the white pizza, but other than that, everything was great again.

Surprisingly on point. Very strong New Haven pie, but doesn’t bring the classic density. Very thin pie that packs a ton of flavor. The sauce is light and flavorful along with a deep char and quality cheese profile that makes this pie a must try in New Haven. It’s the unsuspecting, non threatening look that will punch you in the face and make you smile ear to ear.

Bar pizza is clearly good and I didn’t leave this review to insult their food. I was however disappointed when I was handed two pizza boxes inside out… by the time we got home with our pizza all the yummy inks and dyes from the outside of the box had leaked and seeped out from the grease of the pizza… super disappointing when the ink from the box sticks to the underside of your slice…

Lets start of with the fact that a big plus of this place is that you can create your own pizza- starting with the size, base of the pizza and toppings. Be aware that even the medium pizzas (which you can see in the pictures) are extremely big and I had a big problem to finish mine and so I cant imagine how huge the large ones are. The crust is thin and really good. A downside for me is that they have no olive oils to put on the pizzas. Other than that I really loved everything and so I had to give them 5 stars.

They confiscated my real id. I now have to get it reissued. Also, I used to go to this restaurant in early childhood and can vouch that it has gone down in quality significantly. With that said the place has always been stinky. If you are visiting New Haven I would highly recommend Sally’s or franks if you are looking for pizza. If you are looking for nightlife I would highly recommend legitimately anywhere else. They blast techno music whilst anti social policeman stand outside, it feels like a war simulation post modern nightmare, if you are looking for that kind of thing I would recommend watching an alternative movie from the 1980s on some odd streaming service. If you are looking for the last generations of WASPs existing in real time in New England, I would recommend here. If you are looking for mash potatoes on pizza and a weird and un-satiating dopamine hit I would recommend here. All in all I guess it depends who you are and who you decide to be.

My kind of pizza! The medium cheese came out bigger than I expected winch is a huge plus. I certainly got bang for my buck. I asked for extra sauce on my pizza and it was just what the doctor ordered. Not to mention the salad, which is super green and flavorful. Great job Bar!

Bar has (in my opinion) the best pizza in New haven. The main reason is consistency. Pepes, Modern, Sallys etc over the past few years are hit or miss depending on the day. Bar is the same over years. No matter time, or Day.

Wowwww , we are from Iowa.. we visited our sister who lives in New Haven.. She took us to Bar for dinner and we got to try AMAZING EAST COAST PIZZA… Bar sets the standards pretty high.. It was a great experience. Food was great and ambience was awesome..

Good pizzas with a lot of gimmick toppings that taste good

I still maintain that Bar is where you can get the best pizza in New Haven. Twenty years ago that might have been a controversial opinion, but perhaps today more people have come around to my point of view. Theyre still great after all these years.

Bar is the hipster version of New Haven pizza. Its a bar, brewery, and pizza joint all in one. While considered one of the big four, its pizza differs by being the thinnest of thin. The crust being more cracker than bread. For some, that may be appealing; however, it is not my personal preference. Their specialty pie is a mashed potato sauced pie. At first mention I thought, how could this be good? I was pleasantly surprised, while I would not regularly get it, it was enjoyable and an experience unto itself. Would recommend.

We had 3 very nice and ginormous thin crust pizzas, also tried their interesting pizza with mashed potatoes, and it was good. The servers were obviously busy but still nice and attentive. The wait time on a Sunday evening was about 25-30 min, so we spent it at the bar. It would be very nice to see some diversity among the bartending and serving staff.

TO DO LIST - New Haven Pizza - A very lively place with amazing pizza and great choice of beer and cocktails. There is a dance floor if you like to dance off. The pizzas were amazing and HUGE!! 😃 I mean we took small size and it was enough for two of us and also took some food next day lunch. The quality of the bread is really good. Tables are bit squeaky but they changed it. They will also give your sample of your beer before ordering a full mug.You read show id for entry into the dance floor as well as consuming alcohol.Might have to wait for some time for the tables but overall great experience.

We love the interior design of the restaurant. It was very unique and modern. We ordered a veggie pizza from the menu. It was fine but I think it could have been better with other veggies. The medium size is enough for 2.5 people. One negative point about the menu is that the pricing was not very clear. I think they can improve the menu definitely.

Literally the worst option in this neighborhood. The food is barely edible. The service extremely poor and the atmosphere gimmicky in a bad way. Dont waste your money.

I went for my 21st birthday and the entire staff was very nice!!! The hostess, Maya, was amazing and so kind to us!!! I think because Yale is not in session the crowd is a bit older, but everyone was really nice!!!

Great pizza, great beer, great atmosphere. If youre from New Haven you know. Some visitors might understand. When the club half was opened it was a great place for a drunken night of dance and one night relationships. But a week night Pizza dinner is where its at. Definitely get the BAR SALAD!

Finally made it here. staff were great had had their famous mash potato and bacon pizza. Also had Portrait of New Haven pizza, crust very tasty. Overall, was good, but if Im only in New Haven a couple days, Bar would not be my choice for apizza.

Bryce, mikayle, and phoebe are outstanding people. They were so accommodating Bryce is kind and so willing to accommodate, mikayle makes a fantastic aperol spritz and is lovely, phoebe helped me surprise my fiance with his birthday cake even though we weren’t her table. Fantastic time, great atmosphere and as a restaurant manager I would love to have them working for me. 10 out of 10 recommend

Stopped in here for some pizza and to have a drink. It’s a good casual atmosphere….. plenty of seating, music, pool tables etc The service was really good. The waitress was friendly and attentive. The pizza was delicious!!!! I’ve had pizza at a lot of places over the years and this is really good pizza. There’s a full bar and a good selection of food. It’s easy to get to and there’s parking available nearby. Definitely recommend

The female bartender with the glasses and brown hair that served me at the side bar by the pizza ovens, was the nastiest, most disrespectful worker I’ve ever dealt with. She had an attitude the entire time I was there, I am handicapped and she refused to accommodate my needs. Wish I got to enjoy my time here but she made it the worst experience for me.

Pizza was excellent but expensive. Atmosphere was not our thing - loud, not our taste in music, too much of that club feel on the side we were seated.

Pizza was good but I was actually more impressed with the salad!! Those candied walnuts were too good!! Mashed Potato Pizza is FANTASTIC. Its not too smothering and its really smooth. Their brisket pizza was outstanding. The brisket itself is probably the best Ive ever had. 10/10

Same server from previous review was also quite rude during our visit. Adding snarky comments when mentioning our order was wrong. Food was good, expect a minimum of 45-60 minutes for a medium pie on a Friday or a Saturday. Zero updates on the food until it was dropped off to our table.

For a new take on new haven pizza with more chances of getting a seat than traditional, this spot sets themselves as head of the pact in many fronts. the service can be a little wonky but thats because theyre pumping high volume and maintaining a solid product that i trust return to. and i have and its improved over the years. the staff is still very attentive and make sure things are taken care of. its really all about maintaining structure without the pizza falling apart of having too much going on. bar pizza really balances the thin crust profile with good distribution of ingredients. the last time i had the potato pie it was just blobs over the pizza that didnt help the cook (def woulda still held a 4 star) but this time around it was all flattened out. i dont have pictures of the pepperoni and olive red pie but that one was just a classic firework show. the beer selection is solid. margarita was strong and delish.

The best (non-traditional) pizza in town, the mashed potato pizza with bacon! Come here on a Friday or Saturday for some of their home brewed beer, pizza and dancing after 10! Dont forget to stop at Louis lunch across the street in you way out

Pretty nice pizza and an amazing salad actually! The highlight for me was the salad. The upstairs hallway seating felt a bit weird but didn’t mind it too much. Will certainly return

Ive never had these types of pizza before! Mash potatoes and bacon?! Lobster roll? What!? Glad to have eaten here based on recommendations of locals.

LOVE LOVE LOVE THIS PLACE!!! EVERY DISH IS DELISH, EVERY PIZZA IS A WORK OF ART! Super thin, cooked to perfection. PHENOMENAL WAIT STAFF & the Pool table is a plus!!! Eating here was an interesting experience. I wouldn’t recommend if you want rats playing in your food. I witnessed a whole family of mice running around on their equipment. While people was in there without a care in the world. I understand It may be the location. But at least have the infestation under control

Went here for wife’s birthday. We also took some of our engagement photos here years ago.Pizza is a good as it was back then, house brews were on par.Where it was lacking was the service- the waitress with the sleeve (just being descriptive for the business owner as we have multiple tattoos ourselves no hate) was super attentive when taking our initial order but everything went down hill when my wife politely asked how much longer our order was going to be (we were sitting down for 40mins at this point without any follow up with the waitress). She was condescending with her reply “well if you’re a regular on the weekends, you’d know the pizzas take 45-50 mins.” A few mins later, after I took a sip of refilled my fountain drink, noticed they filled it up with the wrong beverage and politely called her over and told her about it- her response was unapologetic “well I didn’t fill it up but okay” pizza was great and servings are ample but if you face this tatted thug, ask for a different waiterI’m not the type to jump on google reviews to drop hate on restaurants bc they’re already having a tough time in todays post covid times, but BAR needs to do something about this waitress as I can see from reviews, this isn’t the first negative experience a customer has faced with her. BAR management feel free to reach out for more deets.

They had me hooked with their potato pizza. Ive never had it before and thought it was wild but good lord I am now obsessed with potato pizza!!! Its so filling and hearty. Bar Pizza does it right ans everyone should totally try bar pizza 🍕 Its a pretty decent place to eat in we did one time. The pizzas are a wee bit on the smaller side and they are pretty expensive is ny one bit of feedback. Otherwise they are amazing and would defintely come back! Everyone should come to try some potato pizza 🍕 😋

Great atmosphere, fantastic thin crust pizza. The small is more the size of most medium or large pizzas you might find elsewhere.

Super cool vibe..indoor and outdoor seating. Loved the crust and flavors of the large pepperoni and sausage pizza and also the mashed potatoe & bacon pizza. The salad bowl is huge and a delicious blend of field greens, candied pecans, apples, pears. We could have had a little more dressing. Unique microbrews available.

Don’t usually post reviews but I was highly off put by this place based on my experience. I came at 9:30pm, for a beer, and sat down to enjoy with my spouse. At 10:15pm, I ordered another beer. 5 minutes later, we were informed last call was being called and the place was closing at 10:30pm. The posted hours on the website said they were open until 12am on Wednesdays. This was not the case and I was given 15 minutes to finish my full beer. Would not have ordered an additional beer had I been informed before. The establishment needs to follow posted hours or give a heads up to patrons if they are closing 90 minutes prior to posted hours.

Great pizza, average ingredients. Not the best appiza New Haven has to offer but its still better then most of the trash pizza New York has to offer. If you like a sweet sauce and thin crust, you wont be disappointed.

Super thin and crispy pizza. Summer vibes outside are great.They even brew their own beers so strongly recommend get a flight and trying them all out.We got the large which was massive as you can tell from me flexing my wide angle phone camera to get the whole thing. frankly, the pizza is so light and thin that 2 people can easily finish it (not kidding!)Another cool thing is that often times thin pizzas end up becoming soggy when you put a lot of toppings but this pizza was able to maintain its crispy texture.Definitely way way way better than NY style pizza (yep, I said it!)

Good pizza. Love the sauce and ashy flavor. This was my first time trying New Haven pizza - does every place slice their pies in little rectangles like this one? Its really annoying to eat, as the slices have no structure, and its a challenge to keep cheese and toppings from sliding off.

BAR HATES THE GAYS. If you are LGBTQ this is not the place. 3 separate queer individuals were discriminated against in one evening at this establishment. The security, managers and owners have had no sensitivity training and have no respect for people with different identities. DO NOT GO HERE. If there is a pride event, UNDERSTAND that it is performative and a money grab. No level of “good pizza” will ever make up for the levels of discrimination, disrespect, and bigotry experienced, not to mention the dumpster smell throughout the establishment and DJ playing only clean versions of songs as if we’re at a summer camp for 5 year olds.

Pretty cool place, basically three decently sized venues in one location: dance floor / club area in the back, sports bar / billiards room in the front, and pizza joint/bar on the other side. Coat check is also a nice feature so you can roam freely around in the colder months without bringing your big jacket around all the time. Cover is $10 after 9:30pm on weekends according to the bouncer, but drinks are pretty strong here so you get your moneys worth in my opinion.

Great vibe and excellent food.I saw The Bar in an article about the Top 5 pizzas in New Haven and it happened to be the closest to the hotel I was staying at, so this was not my first choice, but I am glad I came.I was ready to just get what I always get on a pizza, but the famous BAR recipe is mashed potatoes and bacon toppings, so I reluctantly went ahead and ordered it.I would normally never use mashed potatoes and pizza in the same sentence, len alone put one onto the other, but I have to say, its really good.If you like pizza, mashers, bacon, and in my case, onions and mushrooms, that is.Ill come back here anytime. Oh, and they have their own beer, but plenty of traditional brews as well.

Visited on a Sunday afternoon. Very welcoming, laid back environment. They have a very casual side with a bar and pool table and a slightly less casual side with a bar and a bunch of tables and booths (pic is of the latter). Service was great and they brew their own beers, but were all here for the pizza.Their pizza holds up to the New Haven greats, but in a very different way. We got their clams casino, BBQ brisket, and mozzarella and pepperoni pies. Pepperoni was good, but not the highlight. Clams casino and BBQ brisket were both amazing and the reason they can hang with Pepes, Sallys, and Modern. Will be back to try some of their other specialties including the mashed potatoes and bacon.

For me it was Loud and way to busy. I understand its an experience some people enjoy. If you like a tightly packed crowd this is a good spot for you. Came here to try the pizza. It definitely did not disappoint. The pizza was one of the better Ive had in a while. Id absolutely get another but would order take out next time.

The best pizza Ive ever had! I got a small mashed potato with bacon, which was enough for two very hungry people. There were great beer options on tap (including an awesome chocolate stout), and the bartenders were very nice. I would love to go again if Im ever back in the area. Im not sure how this place compares to other pizza places in New Haven (simply because I havent been to any others).

Ive always loved Bar but I havent been in a while so my last visit was a bit of a sticker shock ($50 for a large BBQ brisket pizza) 😱 Definitely wont make that mistake again.

Pizza was very creative. The service was terrible. I was not only offended by the server for dropping the check before we were done, she also should not have recommended a drink that was nothing like the one I was ordering. I have been in the service industry for many years, there was a general lack of interest in our experience. Never again.

Came for a party. Surprisingly slept on this place for a while bc im a local and have great spots in my town. But man this was totally different. Not colony type either, but an extremely thin light crisp crust. Top notch toppings, short rib and clam were both fantastic.But what really stood out was the service. There was maybe 30 or so of us and the server we had was absolutely fantastic. She was attentive, super helpful, and was always there when needed. It was a busy sunday and we were right by the windows, a great spot.Been in the indsutry at every level for 20 plus years, yall are doing it right.

This pizza was pretty good. Loved the crunchy crust. We ordered a small for pick up. Because of the parking situation the pizza was ice cold when we got it. But it was still good. Next time we are in town we will have to dine in and try it hot.

Great pizza in downtown New Haven. Their pizza is very unique. The crust is very thin and soft and the flavours are unlike other pizzerias. They have lots of great topping options including mashed potatoes, eggplant, and ricotta. I love getting mashed potato and garlic pizza on one half with eggplant ricotta on the other half.This place is usually crowded and it is not the best place to go if you want to sit and enjoy a peaceful dinner. It is loud and packed with people standing to get drinks and socialize. Even if you are not into that scene, the pizza makes it worth visiting this place at least once.The service is not outstanding, and I have had an employee be rude on more than one occasion. Still, the pizza makes it worth coming back.If you are in New Haven on a pizza tour, Bar is a must-try. If you are looking for the best pizza in town, Bar might be the spot, but it has stiff competition from a few other establishments. Their pizza is a unique enough that it will always be in the discussion of best pizza in New Haven.

I am a regular dine-in lad who likes to explore places and try new cuisines and ambience. I have had wonderful experiences but never unpleasant the way I did here. The attitude towards white and brown is clearly distinctive with a mindset to put down the latter.

Alittle pricey for the pizza, however light and flavorful. Will be back. Nice job.

We came from NYC & needed to fill our pizza craving after our training session latenight. I came across BAR becuase of its later serving hours within the area. We got a medium pepperoni pizza. It was a thin crust, not too salty or greasy & delicious flavors. The ambiance of the restaurant/ bar had a very fun set-up with a pool tables & music/ karaoke. The two negative I would give is the fact that it took a bit long when we went to pick up the pizza & overly priced. Overall, if youre looking for a good home brick oven pizza, this is your spot!

You need to show proof of vaccination or negative covid-19 test to get in. The staff was great & the food delicious. We sat in a booth and ordered two small pies. Service was quick. This place has a nice atmosphere.

Bar never disappoints, The Mexican Street Corn Pizza is the family favorite. The BBQ Beef Brisket and Mashed Potato and bacon are equally as good. Great beers, drinks and atmosphere make this an annual stop when we visit the family for Christmas. Highly recommend.

We arrived at 4:45PM on 1/3/24… reservations for two long tables ahead of the Penn Yale basketball game. Orders were placed just before 5PM and by 6:15PM we had no food, no updates. I’m no chef but it does not take that long to cook a pizza. The manager was super disrespectful when questioned about it and threatened to kick us out.Everyone in our group was over 45, there for their kids game and respectful.The servers were horrified. One even said “I can see how long ago you ordered this I don’t know what’s wrong.”We were charged for each and every soda and glass of wine and never got food. After 90 minutes. No comp. No apology. Just attitude when called out. We watched multiple takeout orders going out the door, after asking if our food was delayed to prioritize takeout.A group of 45-65 something’s never got food. Manager was unprofessional and clearly not “managing.” Never gave his name but was in a wooly fleece vest and needs to go.What a sad situation for a New Haven landmarkWish I could show a picture of the food, but we never got any

In a town with some of the best pizza in the world, the competition is tough in New Haven. BAR holds its own with some interesting pies. They’re big, so go hungry. The place has a college bar atmosphere but the service is good. They’re known for their mashed potato bacon pizza, which is worth trying. The BAR salad is excellent.

The pizza here was awesome! It tasted good, the ingredients were fresh, and it wasnt overly filling! The staff was friendly as well. Definitely check this place out if youre in Newhaven or just passing through.

Bartender was more worried about his tip than good service. I had a drink knocked out of my hand and instead of making me a new one he told me to find the person who did it and charged full price. Very selfish staff

So I rarely post reviews but the food and service at Bar tonight were exceptional. The house salad was really good and huge. The pizza was as good as anywhere in New Haven. The service was over the top. Due to a disability, I need to help my wife walk to our car. The manager walks us across the street carrying our leftovers and makes sure we leave safely. Very impressed.

Best wood fired pizza in CT. They do traditional and nontraditional pies. I go for a custom red pie with pepperoni and jalapeños, or the house white clam with bacon. Also, the classic mashed potato pizza is legend. Oh, and they brew their own beer. Enough said.

This place came highly recommended from some of the locals in the area. Came here after a day of work, and the general vibe is great. Fun place to go with friends to enjoy some beer and eat some pizza. The seating plan seems to be divided in 2 areas, tables and bigger tables for larger groups near the bar. Would recommend checking out.

Drove up from NYC to try New Haven style pizza from the holy trinity Frank-Pepe/Sallys/Modern and found this spot as well. Amazing 👏 hands down the best spot. The ambiance was great along with the service provided by the takeout waiter was top-notch. I recommend this be the place that you start and finish with when you come to New Haven looking for pizza. The other places are good and they may have the history but Bar is where Im taking my family and friends when I come back.

The service was not what I was expected. Need it to ask for everything. Cups were dirty and no napkins. The potatoes pizza taste really good but is very thing. I will not eat this as a dinner or lunch. I will have it as appetizer.

Even though I am from the New Haven Hamden area this was my first time at Bar. Previous to this excursion whenever I went down into New Haven for pizza it was always to Modern my go-to for decades. I had a group of people from out of town and wanted to treat them to better Pizza than they are used to having, but Modern was packed. On a recommendation from a younger Cousin we made our way down to Bar and I couldnt have been any happier. The food was incredible the atmosphere was even better and the service was outstanding. We were actually there the weekend before Halloween so everyone was out in full gear and it was just out of this world. I would recommend this establishment to anyone looking for a great meal, outstanding service and awesome ambiance!!

The mashed potatoes with bacon pizza is the bomb! The mashed potatoes is very garlicky, so, make sure that is something you like. Very flavorful and well balanced with the crust.

After living in NYC for 20 years, I married a Yalie. She claimed the pizza in New Haven was on par with NYC. What a claim. It turns out that she is (yet again) right! Sally’s is one of the family favorites but BAR is my personal favorite. The thin crust pizza is flawless. Add the salad which is heads above the typical pizza joint fare. Well done and see you again soon.

Awesome selection of beer and pizza. Friendly staff. They of course have the New Haven classic white clam pizza, but their speciality is the potato pizza. You cant really go wrong, but I was unaware of their speciality after the fact. Go to one of the old NH staples for white clam, and get the potato pizza and a regional beer here. This review is about the club portion of the establishment.I expected more from a bar in a liberal college town. The mens restroom is urinal only which leaves trans men with the uncomfortable quandary of either pissing their pants or getting their lesbian sister to escort them to the womens room and arguing with/calming down the normal womens restroom denizens.After that, your lesbian sister gets assaulted by a creep despite telling him to back off multiple times about 5 feet from one of the bar security resulting in the whole party quickly departing from the establishment.0/10, couldnt pay me enough to return.

The pizza is okay.We left to get some air because it was extremely crowded and when we tried to go back in, they denied us access and it was within an hour of us being there.For pizza during the day sure I would recommend it but for the night life, no. Stay away. They let WAY to may people in and even after charging you the cover fee they will not let you back in. I do not recommend.

We were told that there would be a 45 minute wait and we would be notified via text when our table was ready. We waited less than 45 minutes for that text. When our group of 5 were seated we noticed how there was an ample amount of space around us in observance of safety protocols. Mary C. took our order of a large Pepporoni pizza and a large mashed potato pizza. I initially thought I wouldnt like the mashed potato pizza because Ive had one before that I didnt like somewhere else. This one was great! Not heavy and cumbersome to eat. It was just right. Of course the large Pepporoni was amazing as well. Just the right amount of crunch and it was easy to hold. Texture and taste were perfect.The selection of beers on draft were great. Mary C. introduced us to the beer Fat Orange Cats Baby Kittens. It was delicious. We thought we were drinking orange juice. Of course with all IPAS, theres loads of carbs in there and as health conscious gents we opted for some tequila shots shortly thereafter. One member of our group (not saying any names) refused to drink that and asked for Jameson instead. To us, thats breakfast! Anyways, Mary C. was understanding of this and was still swift with our orders. We greatly appreciated her service to our table even during the busy hour that we visited.All in all I have to say that Bar is an amazing place. Its not just a place to go to drink or club. Its a fantastic pizza house. The atmosphere is very nice, the food is great, and the people who work there are a joy to interact with. I would bring my mom here to eat. Its such a great multipurpose and multi occasion setting. Ive been here many times pre-pandemic. It was always good, especially the club scene in the back (although tight because of how packed it would get). My group and I look forward to going back!!!

Bar is a staple for us when travelling to New Haven. Nestled in the downtown area surrounded by shops and other bars and restaurants it is a great spot to hang out. The pizza Id personally my favorite thing about this place. The mashed potato bacon pizza is genuinely to die for and is worth every penny. I cant recommend it enough!Sure in terms of decor it is basically a shabby building but the kitchen is on display and spotless. It is definitely a rough interior but it is a student bar and it simply adds to the charm of the place.

Honestly loved the atmosphere here! The bartender that we started our order with was friendly and helpful! We were able to get a seat at the bar, and play a game of pool on the free table. The only let down was the crispiness of the pizza crust. It was cooked all the way but limp. Thankfully we got a cheese pizza or else our toppings would have been everywhere but on the pizza. The taste was good so the pizza want a total fail. Overall I would go again, and hope the crust was a one time issue.

If you’re in New Haven and haven’t gone to the Bar, ask yourself: “What am I doing with my life?” Lol. Jokes aside this place has phenomenal pizza, the staff are unique and burly. And the drinks… are even better. Do yourself a favor and order an old fashioned. Probably the best one I’ve had ever.

I was just a pick-up, and Im not a local. I havent been in New Haven, my college days, for 16 years until recently. I swung by because I remembered how good the pizza was. Its still great! I worry that these guys are trying to do everything at once, which normally doesnt end well for most businesses so I cant really comment on that. 5 stars for the food. Unfortunately, my pizzas were only boxed up. They had no string available to ensure the stability of the pizza, although the young man at the front counter was kind enough to help me tape up the boxes. Still, no string at all and youre a pizza place offering pick-up options? Thats odd. Hence, the 4 stars in service. As for the atmosphere it looks super fun, but boy is it LOUD! So loud! Even mid-afternoon on a Saturday. Im not sure how it is normally and maybe that Saturday was an exception, so 4 stars. It shouldnt be that loud, that early. Leave that noise level for the club they have later in the night in the back.

2023.12.31. I ordered my favorite mashed potato pizza on the phone at 3:56pm. The guy said it will take 20-25 minutes. I arrived at 4:20pm. The guy who was working at the pick up cashier told me he said 35 minutes on the phone. (very rude) So, I asked how long does it take more, and he said under 10 mins. When I came back to him in ten minutes, the pizza was cold. Worst experience ever for my favorite pizza store for 8 years.

Hate to give such a low rating because the pizza is amazing, this past week I came in the restaurant to take my daughter and wife out. I was greeted by your hostess who told us we had a 30min wait ( which Im ok with ) i give my information so in 30 min a will be notified when a table was free. As were walking out the door I hear the same hostess ask the next group how many they replied 4 . She then leads the group of four to a OPEN TABLE that she said my family would have to wait 30 minutes for.On top of being lied to the hostess never contacted with the 30 minutes. We walk back in only to be placed by the bathroom, our waitress wasnt pleasant either. I asked her for a straw for my daughter she said yes and never came back. The only time the waitress came to our table was to drop of the food, then the check as she asks for tip. Great food but the staff wasnt.

Used to go here in my 30s. Its basically the same! Margarita Pizza was excellent. Good selection of beer and wines. Was disturbed, though, to find the middle area, where the bathrooms are located, to have tables for eating... I really had liked the leather couches they used to have. And the Techno room had tables in there as well. That was strange and unattractive in there.

Ive been hearing about Connecticut pizza for a long time. Having had a barely mediocre experience at one of the big names in New Haven pizza on my last visit, I wanted to see if it was overhype or just me. Off I went to Bar. THIS was one of the best pizzas Ive ever had. Im a plain cheese type of guy (or red pie with mozzarella as one would say at Bar), so I cant comment on mashed potatoes or salty processed meats or any of that. Actually, I wouldnt dream of damaging the perfection of Bars cheese pizza with any of that nonsense. As it was, I crushed a small by myself (which wasnt really all that small).

Hadnt been there in 25-30 years. Stopped in before a Violent Femmes concert. Pizza was excellent. Love their pizza oven. Had one (ok maybe more than one) of the beers they brew, Bar Lager. Very tasty. Service was fast and friendly.

The place itself was great, they made a very dirty martini but I dont understand the hype on the pizza. Even fresh out of the oven it was soggy and floppy and the sauce was bitter and covered up with too much sugar. Will not return.
