My friends and I celebrated a birthday at this establishment, a party of 7. Despite making a reservation days in advance, upon arrival, we found half of the restaurant reserved for another party, resulting in a brief 15-20 minute wait for seating. The bustling ambiance attested to its popularity. Eventually seated in a tight side room filled with guests, we indulged in superb drinks, particularly the espresso martini! The seating was a big uncomfortable as it was very tight. The culinary offerings were a mixed bag. Personally, I savored a delectable burger, while some friends found their dishes merely satisfactory; the pasta, in particular, lacked the wow factor. Also the octopus ordered was lacking in pairing as it did not include anything and was a very small portion.Despite these minor hiccups, the overall experience was commendable. The only downside was the initial confusion and the snug seating arrangements due to the restaurants full capacity.Despite these minor inconveniences, we had an enjoyable evening and relished the food. I would eagerly return, perhaps at a less busy time, to savor the ambiance and cuisine anew.
I’ve been in New Haven for two months, and I’ve tried a lot of restaurants. I thought other places were my favorite until I came to Jack’s. The food is excellent, the staff is wonderful, and I have a new favorite! Happy hour is from 3 to 6. The wedge salad, prime beef tips, and garlic shrimp are excellent . It cannot be beat.
Lets do it. It drives me insane when people boast and brag about a restaurant, and its just ok. Lets do apps first. For this to be a top-notch steak house, how dare the serve frozen calamari rings unseasoned no tentacles and chewy. Marinate season and flash fry them. Dont just coat them and fry. The garlic shrimp were great. We also had lamb lollipops, which were just ok. Again, the same process marinate with these fresh ingredients garlic rosemary oregano olive oil salt pepper, then cook and serve. For lunch, I had clams and pasta he had filet mignon with loaded baked potatoes, and he said the steak and potatoes were great. I said the pasta was ok. The food didnt taste like it was made with love. You can tell when food is just thrown together because they are short staffed or busy. You can taste and see when food is made with love. There was no love in the food. The waiter was slow and forgetful there was no soap in the mens room, and the waiters excuse for all of our concerns was, Im the only one working, sorry. it was 2:00 in the afternoon with 4 full tables it was empty and slow. Just my thoughts, my opinion. I know I wont be returning to this okay pricey Steak House.
Went to Jacks on a whim. Their brunch menu was excellent. I got the Tres Leches French toast, the lobster roll, and bottomless mimosas on Sunday. Then, I got the Kobe burger and calamari on Wednesday. Both times the food was excellent the burger was cooked to perfection. Their fries alone are worth the visit! Both times their staff gave excellent service and were friendly. Very classy and a great atmosphere!
Jacks Bar and Steakhouse has something you don’t see on every menu and must try if you love steak. The infamous Tomahawk steak, it was so succulent and juicy that there are no sauces required. It is relatively pricey but if you love steak it is a must try off their menu and it was enough food for multiple meals. The staff is very accommodating and friendly as well.
Outstanding restaurant and you couldnt get a better experience. The customer service was top shelf and the food was amazing. I got French onion soup, lobster risotto, and tiramisu. I wouldnt change any of my choices and they didnt skimp on the lobster. Now with that being said, youll be paying for that great experience. I still cannot believe we were charged $20 for water, and I recommend asking for tap water 🤣. Regardless, this was an amazing restaurant and I recommend it.
It’s upscale place to sit to have dinner and might be good for date night .service are warm hospitality.i tried lamb lollipops ( it was really great)but sea bass was not really great . sea bass is my favorite but i guess i never had that kinda sea bass, disappointed for that taste . mussels also not really good choice i guess, didn’t try their steak but might be yummy, pricy so didn’t take a risk to order
Juinior was my bartender-- everything was incredible. I ordered what I think might be the best espresso martini Ive ever had my first time with him. Came back to celebrate an anniversary-- the bottle of champagne we ordered was served before we even noticed, and the oysters were absolutely incredible. All of the staff were more than lovely, and while I cant recommend all of them enough, Junior was definitely a highlight. If you stop in, be sure to grab a drink with him at the bar before you leave!
Jacks Bar And Steakhouse in New Haven, CT, is an absolute gem! The Dirty Martinis are perfection, and the Steak Tartare is out of this world. Each bite is a flavor explosion that will leave you craving more. The ambiance is cozy, and the service is top-notch. If youre a fan of quality steaks and expertly crafted cocktails, Jacks is the place to be!Marisa Balletti-Lavoie
The food was decent. I feel like it was a bit overpriced for the meal. My friend got the sea bass and she said it tasted fishy. We went back the second day, and all got the salmon dish. Unfortunately it wasn’t as good as it was the first time. The sauce was watery and the portion was even smaller. It wasn’t terrible though, it was good enough to eat, but just wasn’t worth the price. Now the brownie desert was very delicious. They did give us a feee desert because my friend didn’t like her food, so that was nice of them. I probably wouldn’t go again to be honest, but it’s not a bad place.
Everything was great... street parking we found as we pulled up down the block ...as we walked in seated immediately our waiter was awesome start to finish. Food was good appetizers we had lambchop lollipops my husband had the oysters we had margaritas passion fruit & the mango was sooo good. Main we had NY strip & short rib both so good tender we did well done still moist didnt need steak knife for the NY strip paired with mash tasted like (instant)😏🤭 but still tasty I had a double baked potato tasty. Again everything was great service food ambiance... shots on the way out💪🏾Shout out to our waiter Thursday 7/11 around 7:30 8pm he was great!!!
We were going to make reservations somewhere else but they had so many arbitrary rules, regulations and charges, we changed our minds. But now we had 9 family members wanting to celebrate a very special Birthday. I said let’s see if we can get in Jack’s. They immediately took our reservation and were so friendly and patient with some changes to our party. The food was excellent, served to us by Carlos with care. A great place!! We’ll be back.
We came on memorial day at 4pm as a group of seven and the whole experience was wonderful. Our 300$ tab came with 20% tip already included but we left more because we really enjoyed the service, the food and the vibe. During our 3hr visit, we had staff come to check on us in a well paced manner. All my guest ate their food without struggling or craving more. We got a pitcher of sangria and other of mojito. Each covers five glasses andthey were strong enough worth the 40$ each. Our server suggested us to get the pitchers and he was right!Only thing I wish I knew is that the grilled octopus portion is very tiny so imagine eating a bag of cheetos for 18$So if you have big appetite its better to stick with the short rib 32$ or the burgers maybe the pastas too
Checked them out for Surf and turf Tuesday and the food was delicious. 45 dollars for steak and lobster , first course included a choice of mussels , clams and salads and desert was great along with complimentary champagne. I haven’t seen a review about this but this is the perfect place for date night. The ambience is great , the server was attentive and the food was delicious. 5 star deserved.
The atmosphere was comfortable and energetic. The decor is modern even a bit sexy. Great for date night. Food was very good. My filet mingnon was cooked exactly how I wanted it! The lobster tail was a little dry and very small for the price. The 4star rating is because food was Barely nevermind hot. They have a large variety of cocktails. And our waiter was very accommodating, knowledgeable and friendly.
We love this place! Been here twice for special occasions. We get dressed up and have a real nice meal & drinks. It is expensive that’s why it’s only a special occasion stop for us but will continue to go here every time we’re in town. Disappointed to find out they no longer serve oysters rockefeller. They were so AMAZING the first time we had to order a second round. This last time instead we tried the raw oysters which were delicious as well. I’ve had the lobster risotto both times and each time it has been the best dish I have had out! I cannot recommend it enough!!
Came in close to midnight on Thursday and was able to put an order into the kitchen. We sat down for drinks and the staff was very friendly. Had a meaningful, intelligent conversation with one of the staff. Brought the food back home, fried calamari and fried ravioli, it was delicious even after sitting in the bag for 45 minDefinitely will try again. Would recommend. They had a DJ and there was a small round bar. Lots of nice tables for dining.
My fiancé and I had an extremely disappointing experience at Jacks Steakhouse. We were seated promptly, but that’s where the good service ended. We waited for exactly 20 minutes without anyone coming by to take our drink orders. It felt like we were completely forgotten. Frustrated and hungry, we decided to leave. This was supposed to be a special night for us, and the lack of attention from the staff ruined it. We won’t be coming back.
We recently hosted a cocktail hour at Jacks for our company conference and it was perfect! Bladimir did a great job at communicating and having everything set up for us when we arrived! The food was great, they even were able to provide gluten free options for our guests who needed that. The servers were very attentive and we really appreciated it! The atmosphere and space was perfect for our size of 50 people. We will definitely be back! Thank you Jacks and Bladimir for doing such a great job!!!!
Well worth the price.Yes it costs an arm and a leg, but it delivered. As someone who eats a lot of steak, both ordering it out and teaching myself to cook it via several fancy cooking methods, I know when a steak stands above. This does.I was weary about this place given some of the more recent reviews and the price tag, but ended up taking a chance and Im glad I did.Table bread was HOT and I was sure they had just nuked it in a microwave when I first saw it given the steam coming off it, alas, I was wrong. Fresh as can be.We started off with crab cakes for an appetizer and they were absolutely delicious. Moist, flavorful and a texture that was on point. My Bourbon smash was delicious and easy to drink. My wife gave no complaints about her Shirley Temple.Entrees took a minute, but thats how fresh food works. My 32oz ribeye steak was a thicc boy, but cooked perfectly. The maillard reaction on the crust was spot on, the garlic butter added a great splash of flavor and the chimichurri on the side was fresh and delicious. The cook on the steak was also, just as I requested. Hats off to the chef as achieving such a goal on a steak this thick is a challenge and a half.My wife ordered the duck special with raspberry sauce. Not something we typically have in the house but it was great!By the time we were done there was NO room for dessert but we were very happy we had followed through to dine here and will hopefully again the next time there is a special occasion.Things that confused me:- The roses on every table that are VERY cheap and clearly fake. Like... Look like they came from the dollar store.- the menu doesnt list quite a few items Ive seen pictures of and after noticing a GrubHub delivery driver, I looked up the GrubHub page and those items are listed... But are not on their dine in menu.- the bathrooms have no door handles, just cut out holes where one should be. Hot air dryers dont work and dont seem to want to be repaired given the paper towels placed above them.- the book that should contain the beer/wine/spirits/liquor list by the table was completely empty.
Myself and daughters went yesterday for Mother’s Day with a 5pm reservations, we was seated at 5 ordered the food and we were patiently waiting for our food. 7 pm came and still no food so we asked the waiter what happened to out order and he stated let me check, he then comes back to the table and he told us he just put the order in again. No later than 10 min later they came out with the food. The food was then cooked in a rush and I had watery chick Marsala with no flavor. I have never seen soupy chicken Marsala before and I would know how it’s suppose to look because it’s my favorite dish. The food my daughter ordered was no longer available and she had to order something else and my other daughter’s shrimp scampi was also bland just noodles and shrimp. I was extremely disappointed and felt it ruined my Mother’s Day. 20% was taking off the bill and I don’t think that was good enough for that big error on their part.
Sometimes ya just gotta have a steak. I got a smaller rib eye cooked just well of black & blue. No steak knife needed! Excellent fond. The only mistake (I) made was ordering a wedge salad alongside: too much food for me and the meat comes with a sufficient side of arugula. The plate (bistro white) allowed the meat to cool rather quickly. Not sure how that could be countered: a hot plate would wilt the side of arugula.
The food and service are too notch. I had the spicy seafood stew which my daughter ate half while she had the gnocchi as well. Ended up also having the wings at happy hour. Probably the best wings I have had. It a lie. Very crispy dry rub with sides of buffalo and blue cheese. The stew was just the right mix of spice and variety of seafood. If you are waiting for a show then give this place a shot. They also have outdoor seating which is nice.
Visited this restaurant for lunch on a quiet Saturday afternoon. Despite the low crowd, the service left much to be desired. Considering that I spent $80+, I anticipated a higher level of service. Unfortunately, it took over an hour to receive our food, which was disappointing.
We came in just after Happy hour and the owner still let us order from Happy hour menu. Wonderful food, atmosphere and the staff was wonderful!
Some friends and i were in New Haven visiting from out of town and we wanted to stop in here to grab a drink. We walked in no problem and were sat at the bar thinking the bartender would just ID us when there. The bouncers came up to us immediately and asked to see them. We of course showed them our IDs and instead of actually checking to see if it was real, they took them. Gave us a hard time to get them back. Pretended to scan them in a fake cop car and kept saying our NY ids we’re fake. No offense but no one’s coming to a steak house with a fake. So rude and unprofessional. He should be fired for ruining a good night
Every time I’ve been, the food has been absolutely outstanding. The steaks are always so flavorful, the appetizers, all the way down to the sweets and coffees. Our server was delightful and so was all of the other staff that came by to our table to help. As a server myself, I couldn’t be happier. Always an amazing memorable time here. I hope the owner gives the staff all of the love and recognition this holiday season. You all have been fantastic.
Restaurant was dirty. They didn’t have any filet. The new your strip was terrible. Way over priced. Very upsetting to spend 150$ on 2 terrible stakes
We took the drive out to New Haven for a Fathers Day dinner, we had our hearts set on the Tomahawk Steak. The food was good, but for the price I wish there was more of a wow factor. The absolute highlight of our night was our server, Bryce. I could clearly see it was busy, and that was expected. Bryce was very transparent and apologetic regarding the wait time for food, we were by no means in a rush but I respected the gesture. Throughout the night he was very attentive, personable, and engaged in great conversation, not everyone can relate to a couple of nerds like us! My interest on possibly returning was not determined by my meal, again, it was good but I live over an hour away and could have a similar dinner locally, but what I cant find as easily is the level of service Bryce provided. I worked in hospitality for years, and I know genuine customer service is not easy to find and it cant always be taught!
First time dining here Sunday night 6/26/22. Pleasantly surprised! Fine dining in the heart of New Haven. What a gem! If you’re not sure what to order here’s What I ordered: STARTERS: CLAMS CASINO - great flavor, would prefer there be more care in shell removal; it’s okay to get some grit as expected but too many and too big makes you have carefully partake of this delightful bite. I usually want more than the 6 served but the shell in the bite buffered the urge for more. SHRIMP COCKTAIL, LOBSTER LOLLIPOPS, FRENCH ONION SOUP.ENTRÉE - PORTERHOUSE with CREAMY MASHED POTATOES and STEAMED SPINACH.DESSERT - Strawberry SorbetYou will not be disappointed - treat your palate here! Although they were out of the Tomahawk steak babe wanted, it was still a great experience. Compliments to Mario, the Maître d, the Chef, and staff for a delicious, comfortable dining experience. I will most certainly come again.
The only negative was that the staff hovers. You cant finish a sentence w/o someone coming and interrupting. That said, I will take the overly attentive staff as opposed to one that barely pays attention. The food was excellent. However, its pricy. The 6 Oz Filet is literally smaller than the size of ur palm. Very small. For dinner for 3 people with no alcohol was $237 + tip = $290.00. Yikes! The pretzel appetizer (pictured) was fun and yummy. The pineapple boat with sweet n sour chicken over rice inside a pineapple half was DELICIOUS! The strip steak (pictured) was a good size and delicious. The twice baked potato we had to take home...it was huge. All in all a fun dinner w our granddaughter who is in college in New Haven.
I could have eaten anywhere at any price in town at the time recently. But Jacks was convenient at the moment. Ill simply say, Little did I know. Lesson learned. Its a wonder they remain open...A note to the owner, take the loss and sell while you can...
Fantastic food fantastic service great drinks! This was my second time coming from Boston I was hoping it was everything I remembered from the first time I visited and it for sure was and then some the steaks for our whole group were cooked perfectly with lots of flavor!! The sides were great some of the best Brussels sprouts I’ve ever had in my life I highly recommend this restaurant one of the best steak houses I’ve had only wish it was in Boston instead of all the way in New Haven CT
Excellent steakhouse in New Haven. Friends of mine have been going for a while and they rave about the restaurant. Went in today for lunch and WOW. Finally, a restaurant in New Haven that knows how to cook a burger. I am so tired of asking for medium rare and getting an overcooked patty. Staff was very friendly and attentive. I got the pre-fix lunch and started with Mussels and then a burger for a second course. The portions are surprisingly large for a lunch portion. No complaints from me. Everything was delicious!
As an Italian who has had my fair share of Calamari, I am apprehensive about the quality... HOWEVER! The Calamari here not only was actually fresh and included the tentacles (the best part), it was also cooked PERFECTLY because it wasnt chewy, the breading was also expertly done and seasoned!!! The Filet Mignon was also cooked to perfection and seasoned deliciously, as well as the salmon and mashed potatoes. The Brussels Sprouts were so good, I kept stealing bites from my mothers plates, and I DO NOT like Brussels sprouts, but I ate these! The wait staff were absolutely lovely and helpful. I WILL be coming back next time we are in the area. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!!Also, as someone who gets overwhelmed easily with loud noises and bright lights, the atmosphere was lovely and the music was pleasant. 100/10. 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟
Wanted to do this while it was still fresh…My wife and I went here to celebrate our 12 Year Anniversary and I feel like we couldn’t have picked a better restaurant. The food was awesome but the highlight of the evening was after the main course. Bryce was our server, and outside of him providing an amazing service, he turned into my partner in crime when I asked him to place my wife’s new rings on a plate so that I could ask her to marry me again. Not only did he spring into action, the hostess recorded it for us and their entire team brought the dessert and the ring plate over to our table. It was an amazing experience brought to fruition by an amazing staff.Thank you Jack’s! You guys were very much appreciated tonight and you have earned two lifelong customers.
Eh. Buy yourself a couple NY strip steaks at the store and learn how to cook them just as good for the same price of 1 at Jacks. If I go again I’ll try a pasta dish. Baked potato was good. Very nice staff. Live music is nice but a little too loud sometimes to the point it’s hard to have a conversation.
Went on a siblings date last night. We were seated quickly and ordered pretty quickly. The food took a while to come out. My brother and I ordered the same entree but for some reason his filet was a lot larger than mine. My lobster tail was so burnt (yes that’s a lobster tail in the picture) everything else on my plate absorbed the burnt flavor. I did not bring it to the waiters attention because they seem more preoccupied with closing although it was only about 9:50 and they close at 11. Very pricey establishment for what you receive.
I had the worst experience after planning a surprise birthday even for my significant other. The service was lackluster as well as the food. Communication between management staff was poor which affected the dinner timing. A hard shellfish (shell) was found in (the mother of the birthday honoree’s) spinach in which she CHIPPED her tooth. She was offered a DRINK and when she declined they offered a gift card as if she would ever want to come back to their establishment. I was so dissatisfied and disappointed with the service for my loved ones birthday celebration and we spent a pretty fine coin that should have equated to 5 star quality
Ive come here a couple times already for the first time in covid and had a really great and safe experience! Everyone was friendly and organized and when there was a wait we still got in quick!! We tried the flan it was good and the presentation was so cute!!!!! Actually even the drinks were great the bartender made us awesome green tea shots.
We are regulars at Jacks and never fail to satisfy us. Even when we choose to try other places in New Haven, we managed to end up the night at Jacks. This time was because the evening was hot and the restaurant we were did not have caipirinha or cachaça to make us one, so we went to Jacks to have some caipirinhas. Delicious way to end up the night.
Food is always good! However, they do not enforce their dress code at the door. My friend had a hat on for a good 30-40 minutes, already had been served a drink. Shortly after the rest of the party was seated, the manager then came to ask him to remove his hat. That was pretty disappointing to see the team not aligned!
4.8, the food, drinks, service, all of that was excellent. My only downside is as a bigger guy, 511 250, the booths dont work for guys my size. But they do have high tops, so still worth trying out!And the Brussels sprouts 🤤
Ok so last year I went to Jacks Bar and Steakhouse with a friend of mines and we were both unenthusiastic about the whole vibe while we were there and had a few cocktails, appetizer or 2 and was out, but HONEYYYYY🤗😁let me tell u about the visit for my bday weekend 2-1-20💃🏾💃🏾💃🏾💃🏾💃🏾💃🏾💃🏾💃🏾 when I say dat food wuz guud, dat FOOD was GOOD 👍 and not just 1 or 2 things we ordered around 7 different items and they ALL were TOP-NOTCH 👌👏👏👏👏 My compliments to the chef and it is now a regular every other week event, if you ever decide to go try em out go around happy hour and DONT forget to try the PRIME RIB BEEF TIPS, Mmmm Mmmm melt in your mouth like butter you can cut those tips with a spoon😋❤❤❤..
Food was really good. Atmosphere was a bit chaotic but it was a Friday evening.
Large group of us went into here. Food was good (a little pricy). My main complaint was waiting to leave, they put everyone on the same receipt so had to wait a while to break down what each person had, and I was the last person so I think the couple people who didnt pay for theirs got thrown on my check because it wasnt itemized and I dont think I would get 8 dollars taxed on my meal.
I currently went for my birthday two days ago . I don’t know if they have new owners but it wasn’t what me and my family expected. The waiter had an attitude when we said we’d have one more extra person, being that there were 8 of us. Personally it was the tone of his voice. I had put in a margarita which they forgot about and the waiter who brought out our food handed it to us very hot, she didn’t give a warning or anything. When we tried to tell her she smiled and shrugged her shoulders. Nobody checked on us or offered wine or dessert. They were just standing there. Being that I also work in a restaurant myself I was not satisfied. For almost $500 you’d think the service would be at least good. I don’t think we’ll be back , the last owners knew how to keep us coming . Food was good but the service was trash. Never again.
Before I write my review please know that if you come to eat at this restaurant you are going to pay $$$$, it is very expensive!! (New York prices in Connecticut) I went for lunch with three of my co-workers, for 4 people we spent $250 not including any liquor drinks. NOT ONE SINGLE COMPLAINT WITH THE FOOD! IT WAS ABSOLUTELY DELICIOUS!!. The steaks were cooked perfectly, I had the lobster lollipop appetizer and it was perfectly grilled. The short ribs with risotto was delicious as well and one of my co-workers had the pasta with chicken and mushrooms and she loved it. We also had the focaccia bread for the table and we split the fried raviolis. I highly recommend this restaurant the atmosphere was great and the staff were on point... But for those prices they better be. Really enjoyed.
Jacks Bar and Steakhouse is now one of my favorite go to places. Its kind of a romantic setting but I always go with my daughter 😃! So we make it our mother/daughter date place. The food is excellent! Staff is attentive and chill. Drinks are great. I definitely recommend this place!
My entire experience at Jacks was GREAT. From the time we walked in door until we left I cant complain about anything. Everyone we countered while there was very friendly and personable. The food was GREAT. Im looking forward to going back. Though I am not a big beef eater - the salmon is amazing. The drinks are also great. They probably have one of the best bartenders in the area.
Ive been here several times, and I like the ambiance, service and food. BUT! Last time I had a huge bone in my salmon dish which I realized was there only when I started chewing the salmon. I had trouble getting it out of my mouth and it ruined my whole enjoyment of my food. It was not even a big piece of salmon but just chunks. I pointed it out to the waiter but did not even get an apology. I also had 3 of their expensive cocktails and thought one would be on the house to compensate for my bad (and actually dangerous) experience but that was not the case. Watch out for those bones!
I will absolutely come back! Everything was great, the food the atmosphere the vibes and even the bartender!!
Flavor of food was mediocre compared to the cost of the meal. Entrees were the New York Steak and the Penne ala Vodka with Chicken. Wait staff was attentive though. Restaurant could use some upgrades to torn booth seating. May try again, maybe it was a bad night for the kitchen.
Amazing meal, great steaks, awesome tiramisu. Excellent service staff. A little pricey but definitely worth the splurge. Wish it was in New Jersey instead of Connecticut.
Amazing first experience having dinner on a relaxing Sunday at Jack’s. Mario was incredible! Super attentive and helpful with recommendations to our whole group. Half my friends in our party have been plenty of times, other half of us was our first time and we would definitely be coming back in the future! Food was absolutely delicious paired with some of the best wine!
Great service, they didn’t have what I wanted and as I walked out one of the staff came up to me and said what’s wrong. I replied they didn’t have what I was looking for you told me to sit down and went in the back and personally made it for me. Good place.I have a broken foot and they accommodated me !
I have frequented Jacks for many years and for many events, so I was completely taken aback when my husband and I were refused service. The disrespect of it all was deplorable. While I typically attend after work or a show, this time my husband and I chose to stop there for a late dinner. He was dressed casually in his fitted hay and sneakers and the server entered the restroom as he was leaving. He refused to serve us because my large and strong Black husband, dressed as he was, was too aggressive in how he opened the door. I can NOT believe this! A microagression turned MACRO and after years of supporting I can never again return and will share this horrible experience with the WORLD! Go where you are respected and where all are respected!
Took my father to this lovely establishment for Father’s Day and had an amazing time! We had several different drinks and different items on the menu and left absolutely satisfied. He loved his margaritas especially the watermelon and I enjoyed my lychee fizz which was fresh and super tasty. I had crab cakes and he had the crispy ravioli which were enjoyable. He also had the 16oz steak as an entree to which he enjoyed very much while I had the lobster ravioli to which I honestly found a bit salty but still ate due to hunger. The restaurant and staff were very accommodating which I genuinely appreciated very much and servers were soooooo knowledgeable and kind which I absolutely loved! The food was a bit pricey but I wouldn’t complain. Wish I had room for the crème brûlée☹️ I would definitely visit again!
Service always greatRestaurant always clean & vibes are always good , but the new menu & food is so trash . Jacks use to be my favorite downtown food once taste so immaculate now it’s terrible idk if they are trying to push out the urban community or what but the last two times have been such a disappointment. I sent my food back twice tonight the lobster was old & chewy they put corn on top of lobster ravioli now smh replaced the ravioli with calamari & the grease must’ve been old my food taste & smelt like dog food
Cool steakhouse if youre looking for something new and different. Great steak options, lots of options. Awesome seafood selection. Got the 10oz strip, sides of mashed potatoes and brussel sprouts, and shrimp cocktail appetizer. Descently priced for the high quality. Awesome service, it was spot on end to end. Only critique and reason this is not a 5 star review was I am just not a fan of mustard on anything and the steak was somewhat smothered in it. Kind of ruined it for me but 2 others in my group loved it so just trying to be fair. Might I suggest making that an optional add on from the menu?
The staff were all very accommodating, I didnt take a star off, but one issue was a slight communication barrier. Many of the staff did not speak English fluently, so just be careful when ordering non alcoholic drinks. Instead of saying mocktail just say no alcohol. The food was delicious but some items came out cold when it should have been warm, we just asked for a warm up. No problemThe atmosphere was relaxing and they had live music. Even though it was not a large space the music was not overpowering and we could still talk at our table. Overall a very enjoyable night out!
The food was great, our server was really funny and attentive it wasnt too busy when we went on a Sunday night. we had a steak with a huge baked potato. the steak was amazing! and I got the lobster risotto with spinach on the side it was really good. we got some drinks later at the bar which was nice the bartender was awesome!! the location is great near alot of my favorite spots so it was a great dinner to start the night off.
Came in from Charlotte nc with a group 7... the waiter short with bald head) was rude from beginning. We ordered tasted a little of the potato , it was not good. I asked to exchange for a potato he said very rude that I would have to pay for the potato and corn. The group was taken back... we canceled the whole order prior to getting it. We were told we couldnt cancel lmao!!! High expectations but definitely let down due to the waiter ( short with bald head)
Really nice place cozy. Waitress was pleasantly polite. I had prime rib tips, it was seasoned well a little over cooked- wanted medium rare came out well done. Prices are crazy. Sides sold separately at 10$ or better for French fries, broccoli, corn on the cob. Just ridiculous 🙄
The good: overall, the food was excellent. The wine was also very good. The waiter was polite and attentive. The bad: the filet was actually the least favorite thing I ordered, but the most expensive. Very disappointing to have this experience at a “steakhouse.”The ugly: the atmosphere and clientele were awful. Was expecting a more upscale and respectful experience considering the menu, decor, and staff’s attire. But it was a very confusing experience to say the least…had TV’s facing the dining space with Chicago PD on…nothing like paying $300 bucks and watching someone getting murdered on a big screen. We also saw a group come in with baseball caps, sweats, and hoodies, who then proceeded to FaceTime loudly. Again…not the dining experience I was expecting. Just overall confusing and disappointing…will definitely not be returning for this reason.Oh - the women’s bathroom was quite the experience as well according to my wife…cleaning solution on the counters, toilet paper all over the floor, stall doors don’t lock, and cheap dial soap out on the counter. Would’ve been nice to see them take some pride in their bathrooms.Great food - great service - absolutely disappointing and confusing dining experience.
Great food and well decorated. The server could have been a little bit more tentative towards us but otherwise great service.
I came on Valentines Day with my boyfriend and our server Joe was AMAZING. I was initially annoyed with the table we were given, but I understood because it’s Valentines Day and we are young and are less likely to complain. For reference, we were put in a small room that only couples were in, and our table was right against the glass wall in a corner. The tables were way too close together and I was able to see other parties getting annoyed with how close the tables were. I wasn’t even able to lift my arms without my elbow hitting into the glass wall, and couldn’t move the other way or else I was too much in the other tables space. Joe being our server made it worth it. The food was great and the service was quick considering it was Valentines Day, but that room should definitely not have had that many tables in it.
Jack’s has amazing food and knows how to make their guests feel special. We celebrated a bachelorette party this past weekend and had a problem with our original reservation at a different restaurant. Jack’s graciously welcomed our last minute reservation (an hour before) for a party of twelve! We got very lucky they were able to accommodate us. Not only that but we all were wearing wigs and they made us feel so special by making drinks to match the color of our wigs. They also treated our bride to dessert. We are so thankful that’s Jacks took us in, fed us great and treated us like royalty. Thank you Jack’s!!!
Great vibes at this restaurant. My friends really enjoyed their entrées. I got the lobster roll, loved the fact that it had a good amount of lobster meat but didnt like the fact that it was service on a brioche bun as opposed to a roll, (the meat kept falling out) & made it quite messy. Lastly, our waitress was attentive. Will definitely go back.
Jacks was recommended by our Hotel and I can truly say I would recommend Jacks also. From the time we walked in and were greeted warmly to excellent food and easy conversation with Mario, our server. I had lobster bisque to start and lobster roll as an entrée. Both very flavorful and generous portions of lobster. My dinner came with fries, of which i can do without,, but I have to say these fries are outstanding. Crisp not to salty and creamy inside My! My dining partner started with pork bellies, which she raved over. Then she had shrimp scampi without the hot chilis. And was extremely pleased with her entrée. I had a very strong flavorful decaf and we split a creme brulee. Both our appetizers and entrees were specials but the menu, the restaurant name implies, is a steakhouse.$$$
We all ordered medium rare and all three steaks came out at different Temps. 67 dollar ribeye needed some seasoning. Place is a bit pricey atmosphere and service were great tho.
We always celebrate with family and friends here. Love the atmosphere and food delicious (never disappoint). Celebrated my 69th birthday here and Mario made me and guests feel special. He is awesome! Thank you.
The Tomahawk steak was disgusting for $180 and they refunded &45 for , it was veiny and raw , for that kind of money it should have been excellent!! especially after spending over $900.00 i will never go there again !!
French ounion soup had to send back. Cheese not melted and soup was just warm. Ordered medium rare ribeye came to me well done. They brought me another one and was raw. Really you’re in a steak house??
1. It took more than 45 minutes for the entree to be served after our appetizers. The restaurant was not at full capacity.2. Service was at most acceptable. The waiter less than enthusiastic to talk to us at all.3. We ordered medium rare. I kid you not, the medium rare was a solid well done. There wasn’t any pinkness in the meat. Not at all.The last time I came here was two years ago and it was much better. I was genuinely disappointed by this experience and was embarrassed that I pulled my friends into here and wasted our one and only Harvard Yale weekend dinner.
Joe gave us incredible service. We just went for apps and mimosas for brunch and he treated us so well! Definitely coming back and asking for him to take care of us. He’s an asset to the restaurant
Food is delicious. The service is excellent. Its a little noisy but the atmosphere is pleasant. It can be a little expensive when ordering the sides.
Food is over priced and lacking quality.I was insulted by the waiter when I complained about my dish. I was told I was not the “type” of customer for Jack’s. I am a black woman so I took offense to that.
Great restaurant with friendly, helpful staff. My colleague and I were looking at the menu outside and realized we were a couple minutes past the Happy Hour prices. A waiter came out and asked us if we had any questions. We asked about Happy Hour. He asked us to wait a moment he would be right back. He returned and told us he could let us still get Happy Hour prices. We decided to eat there and that waiter, William, was our waiter. He was attentive and friendly throughout our meal. I had the Field Greens, Pear & Pomegranate salad. It was AMAZING. It was a good size and fantastic flavor. The Beer selection was impressive and so were the menu options. We will eat here again when we visit!
Ordered salmon Alfredo the food was more could’ve put more Alfredo sauce though ; they place is really nice - very packed when we arrived - the lady in the front was no help ; after finding us a table - we were served the guy with the suit that was waitressing didn’t even get us a chance to digest our food before asking for a tip ; he said y’all don’t pay him and his salary is based off commession - we tipped him because I was in a good mood but if he did that any other day I wouldn’t had - next time be PATIENT and wait for a cash tip !!! Know that we are not obligated to do anything and he kept reaching over my food ! Next time I’ll take it to go
The food here is so good! My husband had the gluten free pasta and it was so good he thought it was regular pasta and asked the waiter to confirm, lol. They make the pasta in house apparently. The waiter was very kind and the drinks were pretty good too! We will definitely be back!
After an amazing show at The Shubert theater we went to Jack’s for a fantastic meal. I’m honestly not sure which is better: the staff, the service or the food. From the grilled octopus to the Kobe burger, to the light arugula salad and chicken Milanese to the crème brûlée (and a few glasses of wine), the food was absolutely delicious. Next time we are there we look forward to enjoying their steak, as the table near to us had it and they were also raving about their food. The service here is beyond first class: they greeted us as soon as we walked in, provided food recommendations and made us feel so welcomed to their restaurant. The staff was very attentive to every table and even though they were busy they made us feel special. That is a mark of excellent customer service and I definitely recommend visiting here before or after a show at The Shubert (or any time you are in New Haven).
Two stars only because my issue was not with the food. Unlike my friends, i enjoyed my meal. But i knew the service would be something since the waitress with blue hair and glasses was type rude from the start. Energy was off, and being autistic i just had to mirror the energy she was giving.I didnt have my ID because i tend to lose them so i just keep pictures, and they said a picture of it wasnt permitted, okay i understood, was flustered, but that was it.I had my husband bring me my ID from 30 mins away because i wanted to enjoy a mimosa before brunch was over.My two friends had ordered bottomless mimosas. And usually they bring out the bottle of champange and orange juice to the table. She didnt. So when one of my friends finished her drink she put the glass at the end for a refill. The waitress took it, and then we waited. And it wasnt until i said something about her mimosa, she reclaimed that she had only giving us one glass , assuming we were trying to sneak an extra glass or something, completely forgetting she had taken it and my friend was just waiting on her refill on her timed bottomless mimosa. My husband finally arrived. He sat at the table with the intention of ordering a meal. She came, I reached over my husband because i was all the way at the end of the table, and placed my id down on the table cause i knew she had to see it, saying can i have a mimosa please. Being excited i could finally have bottomless mimosas and get litty since having a sunday off is rare for me. She looked at it and walked away. Some time passed and she finally came back and said she wasnt comfortable serving me alcohol because i was rude slammimg my ID on the table...I was baffled. I dont know if she had any personal issues going on with her, which made her have an attitude with us as soon as we sat down. But whatever was going on, dont bring it to your place of work where it will affect your job. Call out if its just not your day.Having had worked as a waitress before, it hurt me not to leave a tip. But my friends only got to drink 2-3 mimosas each from her service. She wasnt the one to bring out our food. And yes i was petty. Then she smirked at us as we were leaving, like she did something. I hope she was still smirking, when she realized she didnt get a tip from me.I wouldnt usually leave a review, i would let it go. But i am sober and have time.
Went for lunch with two.Prix Fix Lunch is the same price as the normal dinner menu so I dont understand the point of giving us a lunch menu if we can order anything on the normal dinner menu.Burger and salad were expensive and okay tasting.Lobster Roll was in a bun. The lobster was very fishy and couldnt eat it.Steak tartare has shards of plastic inside. Our server was very nice and accommodating. Unfortunately, it wasnt our lucky day.
The service was absolutely amazing! The servers and hosts looked like they were genuinely having a great time interacting with guests. The food was great too.
I have been to this place four times now.Two times successful, and nice. The two successful times were outside, although one visit had a soaked chair that smelled of urine, they said it was water, with the chairs being left outside overnight, they cannot guarantee it is not urine, so I insisted on another table and a dry chair. Two visits were a flop, and both times I sat inside. I left one of these times, but my son ate the second time. The wait was insultingly long, staff passed us on many occasions. I also wanted to follow through and see what’s up with the difference in service.I think there may be a problem with public relations and equality in their treatment of all customers without opinion.I went by today to see if I could sit outside and try to enjoy a lunch, I did not get the attention of the staff, as usually people outside the door do.That is to bad, I enjoyed the food, but reserve the right to live free and happy, and get good service.
Great service and excellent food. Everything was delicious. Would highly recommend it, but it can be a bit pricy. Be prepared for top-notch steak and awesome service!
Great place, friendly staff. The steak was pretty good, not the best Ive had, but it was nicely seasoned and had a lot of flavor. They didnt get the temperature quite right - ordered medium 6oz Filet and it came out fairly rare. Wasnt bad at all though. The field green salad was delicious and the grilled shrimp were good too. I would go back.
I waited to eat here for a while now and I came with my daughter for brunch/lunch. when we sat down the glass cups was dirty with hard food stuck to the cup, that the waiter poured my fresh water in with no ice just warmed. The ceaser salad was not prepared properly, and the fried ravioli had hair in the bottom of the bowl, and there was a fly in my food, not sitting on top but I picked it from the bottom and I saw it.I told the waiter and he said oh, heres your check so for $64 and tip included $70 that was my experience. That was not fine dinning, maybe when the place first opened but they basically robbed me and gave me there a** to kiss. Went to crepes right down the street and had a better experience for $16 dollars, do better. I personally wouldnt recommend this to my friends or family. never again and Im sure the manager dont care as long as they got there money but cant provide the proper service. That is downtown for you.
The food was great, as always. The noise is on the higher side (in a positive way; good music and chatter), but you have to expect that going in. Its been a while since our last visit and we noticed something I havent seen in the past; or at many other places for that matter. EVERY employee was scanning EVERY table as they walked by to see what help they could offer - more water, clear your plates, etc. Kudos to whoever trained the staff. Everyone was attentive and friendly. With the exception of having to park in New Haven, this is a must visit restaurant.
Wait Staff was fabulous, & EXTREMELY attentive! Very very impressive!!3stars for food: ordered pineapple bowl (&drinks). Preferred broccoli over all the other Veg- chef/kitchen manager insisted they charged me extra for it.....if you are going to charge $28 for pineapple & chix, might want to reconsider a VEGETABLE SUBSTITUTION - especially because wasnt chicken breast & texture of chicken was chewy. Disappointing food for a steakhouse but never had better service from everyone. & the playlist/atmosphere & energy of wait Staff is fun.....the staff give & atmosphere make it hard not to give it 5 star but food is 3star at best
Firstly let me just say our waiter, Joe was amazing last night. Extremely friendly & beyond helpful. Aside from such good customer service the food was made exactly as ordered. I couldn’t ask for any better.
Top notch red meat. Good shellfish. Excellent atmosphere. Occasional live music. Cool part of town. Little pricey even for what it is, and can be a bit loud, if thats an issue for you. But generally on the nose for what you want from a steakhouse.
This place was an absolute zoo. From the waiters to management. It seemed like they were VERY over staffed so staff kept hovering and coming to the table. They would stare to see if our water was finished to come and refill it. Make eye contact as they walk by while we were eating. So awkward. Not to mention an apparent customer brought in a puppy. A very cute one, but a restaurant is not a place to bring a puppy. Management staff and waiters held the puppy and played with him to then go serve people not knowing if anyone is allergic or if any dog hair would get on the food. Food was not great but really expensive. Just really disappointing, don’t recommend it and would not come here again.
My girlfriend and I went here for my birthday this past Saturday. The wait staff was polite and attentive and the fillet mignon was good, but that’s about it for the positives. Frankly, a 60 dollar 10oz steak better be good. You don’t get points for serving what a customer is owed at a 60 dollar price point. The staff couldn’t recommend drinks so we ordered what we thought looked good. We waited about 20 minutes for our drinks, which was the first bad sign. Then, when we got them and our waitress asked if we liked them we told her the honest truth, we didn’t. She then said, “I should’ve warned you about those two drinks, they’re pretty bad.” I appreciate the insight into how disfunctional the manager is (staff can’t be honest with them about the drink quality) but the insight it wasn’t worth our wasted money. When we asked for different drinks (my girlfriend had taken one sip of hers and I’d taken a few of mine) she told us she couldn’t do that. Never mind that she just admitted that the drinks she served weren’t good… We ordered our food, no problem. But when the food arrived my girlfriends meal wasn’t right. The menu said it came with some kind of risotto and instead it was served on a bed of mashed potatoes. She ordered the meal mainly for the risotto. The waitress didn’t mention the change either, she just served it and left. When we call her to the table to ask if there was a mistake she tells us she, “just learned they’re out of risotto,” and she offered us nothing but a, “sorry.” So once again, we’re left feeling dissatisfied over something that could’ve been solved by effective communication. My steak was colder than it should’ve been so it’s obvious our order got held back by some snafu in the kitchen. Instead of remedying that, idk maybe with a free drink, the server just left us with this bad taste in our mouths. I should also mention that the atmosphere was just awful. We wanted a romantic dinner and were seated in a party room next to a 12 top and a 6 top. I guess it’s our fault for not doing more research but the pictures online make this place look spacious and hip. But, it’s more like the bar section of a TGI Friday’s lined with tables. It’s claustrophobic, dark, and loud. There are plenty of steakhouses around this area, there’s nothing redeeming about this joint. We won’t be coming back.
CARLOS was wonderful and took very good care of us... Our 1st time there, but not our last... My dinner was made up from appetizer and salad selection... Others chose differently.
This was our first time there but it was very good. From the time we got there the service was excellent and every course of food was very good. Its not often we will say everything was very good but they earned it!!! We will definitely be back!!
Couldnt have been happier with the food, drinks and whole dinning experience. Being a young business owner i order/eat out a lot. During my time in the area ive tried many places but this has become like a second home to me. The food is amazing, with ample portions and the meats cooked perfectly how you ask. The drinks are amazing as well, due to their knowledgeable bar staff. This is in my opinion, the perfect restaurant and honestly its not just me that feels this way... anyone that I have brought here feels the same. That this is an amazing place and have all returned numerous times since thir first time with me. It makes me happy to see all the other good reviews. Enjoy!
Poor staff. Hardly engaged with us and when we called a waiter over they would leave quickly and wouldn’t give us time to speak. They’re very pricey. They gave me 5 garlic shrimp and 3 hard, cold pieces of bread . We asked for honey mustard and they gave us mustard the first time. The second time we asked, they us barbecue sauce.
I went alone but was in perfect company. The staff was amazing to me. Treated me like a Black Goddess. Shot out to Bryce the Host! Such a great spirit and not to mention delicious food. I got the lobster & lamb lollipops & the Oysters Rockerfeller style! The drinks are good too! This will be my new spot ;)
Where do I start! If I could Give zero stars I would. I read All the reviews and I get It you guys may have some people who really favor you but then everyone is entitled to their own. Lets get to mine +11 others that we went to dinner with. We pre paid $50 per person for dinner. We were told that covered us for dinner and dessert. At the end of our meal after we already paid $600 which we have a receipt for and confirmation through email. We get a bill for 1,000. We were charged for our food and a $200 tip they wanted in the receipt. So $1600? Ummm when we questioned what about our $600 we paid the manager dialed 911 and told security to lock the door. One we are all working people! We all work in manager position, public safety position and corporate positions the manager implied we are broke and shouldnt of came there. All 12 of us shocked! Also when he did the tips on his calculator he charged 12 people x 20.0% when we tried to tell him its 0.2% he yelled at us and said wait for the cops to come no one is leaving until I have My money. We said we want to wait for the police they never showed the whole time we were there from 8:30 we werent allowed to order unless the whole party was there. The waiters kept saying theyll come back one girl waitress gave us dirty looks every time she walked by every time we tried to ask a question they told us to wait. Every single person who ordered their steak and burger well done got pink meat! I ordered Shrimp scampi and had three whole cloves of garlic in my pasta. We ordered out food at 9:20 and didnt get our food until 10:10 they said because they didnt want to bring out food out unless it was for the whole party so half of out food was cold. The staff just ignored us and they brought one persons margarita pitcher and they gave a cup to everyone at the table. Listen food was decent, lack of respect and lack of communication also please be aware you might of made a mistake also serving the whole table alcoholic beverages not knowing the whole table isnt 21. We will also follow up about the other $600 that was paid and how this turned into a $1600 bill. Wish you nothing but success but please do not take advantage of people
Excellent food. Nice ambiance. Service was great.. There was some wait in between drinks, however, the place was BUSY and a little short on staff, our server was hustling (in the good sense of the word) but with great composure and service so kudos to him. Definitley a go to spot if you are looking for a high end meal. MAKE RESERVATIONS it gets busy!
I have walked past this place on the corner of College and Crown daily, and boy was i surprised when i was invited to lunch how good the food was. I went at lunch on a Thursday and found a booth that was very spacious and comfortable and attentive service. The Prix Fixed lunch menu was filled with great choices and reasonably priced. I ordered the Calamari and the Chicken Milanese. The food was superb! The Calamari was breaded perfectly and very tender. The Milanese was perfectly cooked, thin and oh so tasty, with a wonderful salad. If you are looking for a place to eat before a show at the Shubert or a show at College Street Music hall, eat at Jacks!! You will not be disappointed.
The food was good and the steak cooked nicely, but I was rather surprised by what I got for the price. I have a hard time paying $9 for a few roasted potatoes (particularly when theyre dry and not seasoned well), and $35-40 for the meat. Honestly Ive had much better steaks (and potatoes) at other places that think about their food as a complete meal instead of pieces that I have to buy separately. Sadly I wont be returning for a while. At least the service was very courteous!
While the menu is a tad expensive, the environment inside was fitting of a nice steakhouse. The food and drinks were excellent and the service was great. Would absolutely visit again.
Everyone in our group enjoyed their entrées as well as the two appetizers we ordered! It was pricey but the food was cooked well and decent portions. The mixed drinks werent as well received at our table, the passion fruit marg was missing the passion and the pisco sour was... orange (typically they are green). Nonetheless, we really enjoyed our lunch.
Superlative flavors, excellent service, perfect atmosphere
It was way too expensive for what I got for a meal. I also got the garlic shrimp appetizer and it was flavored terrible. All I tasted was shrimp. No garlic at all. Would not make an effort to go back to this location even if I had another party here. The waitress we had was amazing though.
Great food from appetizers to dessert! Our entrees were perfectly seasoned and flavorful! Service was great, even while the place was super busy! Cheers to the staff! Prices were typical New Haven fine dining prices.
Wow! I’m sad I haven’t been here before. Shared this amazing dining experience with my wife. We shared the Japanese Wagyu tomahawk ribeye for 2. Steak was out of this world delicious, and juicy. It was seasoned perfectly and cooked perfectly. The side were also out of this world. The double baked potato was excellent, risotto tasted great, but was slightly on the raw side. And you must try their Mac and cheese. Overall just an amazing experience, service was quick and never needed to ask for anything, it just showed up. Wine selection was PRIME. One glass and my wife was set! Will definitely be coming back!
Its just amazing. Every single time I meet with new people. All the staffs are amazing. They are friendly and they never rush on anything. Food and beer was great. First 20 days of the month I go there. And every month thats my schedule after lab. I love this place and highly recommended. I know many people says that its expensive but at the same time the quality and quantity is great and for sure the vive, which is very important in bar business is just great. Vladimir is great and all the other associates are great. I am new in New Haven and I go alone there without any hesitation. Also, you can imagine a Indian guy going alone in a bar without friends and feeling happy thats something all the other races needs to consider. I dont go last few days of months because the pocket goes crazy in terms of money. But if I could , I would. I love this place.
My daughters had a college friend come down from New Hampshire. We went to Jacks because we have been there numerous times before. The experience this time was awful!!!! There was a security guard that asked my daughter for ID we stated we are here for dinner and have reservations not the bar. The guy stated to my daughter he didnt care and that this is not you on the ID and the other girls were like we are just here for dinner the guard was very rude and then he told some women to come out she was rude and then a guy saying he was the owner was rude and told the security to throw us out because we kept saying we were only here for dinner. I am appalled at how we were treated we were just there for dinner. Since when do you say Im here for dinner and you have to show ID. I dont know what happened to the place we were just there in February and there was not security at the door and we had a nice time. Needless to say the girls friend from New Hampshire had to come down and have a bad experience with this restaurant that we use to love. Never again will we go there. We ended up at the cheesecake factory the following day!!! If anyone at all sees this post please dont go there that was the worse experience ever. My daughter is a government employee and she is going to for sure let her co-workers know to not go there as well!!!!! They should be ashamed!!!! Whoever the security guard was I gotta say you were a real piece of work(mess) as well!!!!
My husband and I came here for a Sunday brunch. It is pricey but totally worth it.... They had the Beatles playing softly, nicely lit, and the food is amazing! Definitely worth the visit!! Mario was great, a resident DJ and very polite!
Very bad ,worst people no decency for staff dont know how to manage the orders and takeaways no respect for customers cheap people ,no organization very dirty restuarant i see in newhaven .people has to hire new persons worst employees.using badwords at customerss
This place was elegant. The service was excellent. Our waiter was personable. He was helpful in menu choices. I had Salmon. It was grilled to my liking. Steak and chicken was eaten by the others at the table. Wine was good ☺️.
Randomly called in while visiting New Haven. Impressed by menu and waitstaff, even though were were in a hurry. Food was great. While a little expensive it was worth it and we went back again 2 evenings later and were not disappointed. Waiter remembered us and made us feel most welcome. A very good memory of our New Haven visit.
Food was good but the service me a d my husband received was terrible. Our server was too busy focus8ng on the group of drunk girls next to us then us. Taking shots with them and all. Then made a mistake and put our bill on someone eleses credit card. We waited over 30 minutes for a damn billxit was terrible! And the drunken group of girls next to us were loud and obnoxious and no one said anything to them.
We loved that they have #petfriendly outdoor seating and we didnt have to wait on a Saturday night which was nice! I loved my steak salad and my husband enjoyed his oysters. Dont miss trying their bread with cilantro aioli. Very good! They even brought us a bowl of water for our pup ♥️
The staff was extremely friendly and attentive. Our waiter engaged with group and made sure we wanted for nothing the entire night. Even though we were here for restaurant week discounted menu they gave us their full attention. The meal was outstanding. Looking forward to coming back sometime to celebrate.
The food was excellent. Seasoning on the steak could be better and the mash potatoes could be a bit creamier and with garlic. The kitchen mixed up my steak and my boyfriends steak so we were unhappy about that and the manager did not handle the situation well in the end when it came to our bill but we will def go back especially because of the waiter
Owner/waiter Glatimer is the most rude person in that place. His attitude is absolutely horrible. Completely rude from the time we walked in the door for our 9pm reservation. He was rushing us to order. Then stated we only could order appetizers. Then took everyone’s menus away without asking if we wanted a meal. Then after we complained he came back then said well if you want steak it takes 30 minutes. Basically saying hurry up. Attitude was messed up from the beginning. His brother Marco/owner has a nasty attitude as well. JUST DISGUSTING. TERRIBLE SERVICE. RUDE ATTITUDE. NEVER AGAIN.
Every time I come here with my family I get the shrimp fried rice and it’s to die for! Staff is super nice and they always have some sort of complementary appetizer for before you start your meal. 100% would and have recommended to friends and family
Server attended us very well and the food was amazing. I never felt i was alone while dining and felt very happy with my food and their service.
Excited for good steak house and couldn’t wait to try the filet. Boy I was not let down. One of the best steaks around!! Perfectly cooked with great sides and meals to compliment main courses. The drink selection was the right size with a good mix of trending cocktails and micro brews. The atmosphere was interesting and I couldn’t quite place a design style to it but it was pleasing to the eye
I highly recommend coming to this restaurant. Service is great and food is impeccable. I went with my family today and they also have a kids menu. The only thing I personally didnt like was my drink but I substitute it for another but overall I do recommend if your around go in an enjoy, I know my family and I did.
On this beautiful Father’s Day I took my husband to my favorite restaurant, and it was ruined by the the rudest manager I’ve ever came across. He kick us out of our seats so he came set up a table for another party and when we question him he was so disrespectful. After today I will never send another dime in this restaurant after today.
Food and service were good.Only problem was the proximity to the bar. Someone was smoking a cigar and it filters into the dining area - not good.
Went out to this resturant as a date night and it was great. The atmosphere is nice and they have some live music in the bar. The insside is nice that gives you a casual feel but also that this ppace is also a top notch steakhouse. I had ordered a filet and my gf ordered a NY strip. Both were cooked to perfection and tender. The NY strip was so tender that I would reccomend anyone get it over the filet. Had the tiramisu was not the best but it was a great way to end the night.
The food was delicious and service was fabulous. The mixed drinks are great too. I would come back to this restaurant. Prices are high but I had a wonderful time. I ate Asian jumbo shrimp. The rice was yummy the shrimp cooked nicely.
Went in for Mother’s Day and had an amazing time the food was amazing the staff was super friendly and accommodating my moms need considering she didn’t see anything in the menu that she liked super thankful for Eduardo making it happen for us. This is a too go spot for my wife and I so I’m super thankful for them taking care of us
The fish I think they cooked too long it was a all right restaurant. The chicken and waffles was not cooked properly its okay we spent roughly around $400 but I thought for $400 the food would be a little bit better but hey you pay for what you get for.
Our server Derek was very polite, attentive, and knowledgeable about the menu. We will definitely be back! This place exceeded my expectations for Valentine’s Day. The manager even got my date and I a glass of champagne for Valentine’s Day! Thank you guys!!
Very dissapointing for the price. $65 filet mignon was raw when I requested medium rare. Amazed I was charged $6 per diet pepsi. Burnt popcorn was an odd touch for an expensive steakhouse. Would not recommend and will not return.
Jack’s Bar and Steakhouse offers an exceptional selection of food and drinks. My family and I went recently and there wasnt one thing we didn’t enjoy. Everything was lovely from the calamari to the tostone trio and Chimichuri bites. Excellent selection of dishes and even better service! The ambiance is perfect for a date or a large gatherings. Their outside patio as well is perfect for the gorgeous weather we’ve been having. Highly recommend if you’re in New Haven!
Recommend by my Amazing Brother in-law. My husband and I went here I believe on a weeknight and the place was slow “thankfully” the decor and ambience it created was amazing. We sat at the bar furthest side to the right. Our bartender was so polite, interactive, and gave great suggestions on the drink selection. So we shared 2 appetizers which was amazing and we order a tomahawk steak for 2 to go. By the time we had our appetizers and a few yummy drinks the take home food came out exactly when we were ready to go. We ate together with our 3 children when we got home and the food was amazing. It was our first time trying a tomahawk steak and they cooked it just perfect and the sides of potatoes and broccoli were the perfect combo for the meal. We will definitely visit there again. The music playing was amazing chill old 70 & 80’s soft rock, Billie Joel, prince, Jon bon Jovie, Joan Jett, pat Benitar, queen and I’m pretty sure they played Debbie Gibson I think we’re alone now lol. I def recommend to anyone especially couples it’s set up is quite sexy and a date night love is in the air atmosphere

I have eaten here in the past as well as hosted a dinner party and the food is superb as well as excellent service I came back two nights to enjoy the Kobe burger ..w/o aioliThe first night I had prime rib appetizer mash and asparagus delicious.. They never disappoint
Went here late on a Monday. Vibe was great. Food still open, free popcorn. Just got drinks and some cocktails but the basketball was on and there were enthusiastic fans. One of the only lovely places in town
Excellent customer service and my NY strip was cooked to perfection. Wow!
Good vibe. SMALL portions. Steak was over cooked and lamb was tasteless. McDonalds fries are by far better than the truffle fries. Drinks were good. Salad was good. NOT WORTH THE PRICE. Won’t come back unless for drinks
Delicious and well-cooked medium rare steak. Good option for a business lunch. They actually knew what they were doing with the Old Bay spiced fries. I will definitely return and eat there again.
I didnt dine here, but stopped outside because I was having difficulty walking. A wonderful person staff person came out to check on me and got me a glass of water. So kind of him to take the time to help a stranger. Wonderful staff you have working there! Thank you so very much!
Took my hubby to Jacks for his birthday.FOOD: The salmon was phenomenal (best Ive had), my hubby ordered the NY strip and he loved it. Unfortunately, the sides we ordered were OK. Hubby ordered a twice baked potato that was a potato skin filled with what tasted like powder/box Mashed potatoes (not homemade).SPACE: The table was tiny, so we struggled to find space for dishes as sides are separate. Its so loud-music, ppl trying to speak over music- conversation is barely possible. They sat us next to the door, and as another patron entered her umbrella opened up and my back got completely wet.SERVICE: The host was attentive. The waiter was friendly and busy... Really busy, so much so that by the time the 2nd beer arrived we had finished and were just ready to get out.Overall, the meats are amazing (worth the price), sides just ok, service good, space tight and loud. We will not return to this restaurant.
We attended a party here a week ago & the service was great! Joe (our waiter) was attentive and quick with a party of 20! The food was excellent.
I wrote the following email to the manager and it has been 7 days with 0 replies.I was there today for Fathers day 2021 to commemorate my late father and my friends late father where we also brought our mothers along. Our reservation was under H***** for 3:15 pm.As an avid steakhouse consumer in Boston where Im from, I was excited to try out Jacks. However, the experience left me wanting more of the price that I paid for. Believe me, Im happy to pay for quality service and I thought I had service that was below par today.Firstly, when we got to the restaurant, we were greeted really well by the hostess and seated us. However, our server did not realise that our mothers who are both in their 70s and 80s needed paper menus. So I stood up to pick them up myself because despite the restaurant not being as busy at 3:45 pm, he was barely around.Secondly, I was very adamant on how picky my mother was with her drink and our server made little contribution to the drink that she ordered which is fine. Just that its odd that our server had little contribution despite me mentioning her requirements.Thirdly, my order of NY strip steak was poorly produced and it felt like I was forced to eat what i knew immediately felt off. To start, my steak was overdone. I told my server and he asked that I slice through the middle. Which I did and showed him how overdone it was. He then told me (not asked) two more times to slice it all the way through which felt more instructional and frustration laced than a request. When my final steak arrived, it was plopped on my table with little ask on whether it fit the doneness. And this steak tasted of poor quality, no sear marks, and tasted old. A $60 piece of steak and it was one of the most horrible pieces of meat I have had at a steakhouse.Fourthly, we ordered Brussel sprouts without bacon and maple syrup. We asked if it were possible, and was told that this was an easy request. When it arrived, the bacon was on the Brussel sprouts. I had to hail the server down which to me felt forced when he took it back and again, the same movement of not being attentive when returning to the table, this time with the correct order.Fifthly, my 74 year old mother was struggling with her food and I had no idea that she didnt enjoy her food. Only after 20 minutes of her attempting to pick at her food did I realise how much she hated it because of the high salt content in it. I asked the server about exchanging or returning it and he said multiple times to our face but shes still eating it and my mother said to prove your point that its incredibly salty. I then told him that its only had the noodles consumed because the chicken was abhorrently salty. To note, she ate 1/8 of her chicken. To which he then said then you could scrape the cheese and eat it right?. This certainly put my mood off. I have never ever been treated like this at a restaurant.Sixthly, we ordered wine with our steak. He brought it before the steaks and asked to then bring it out later. He forgot and I counted that I had to ask him twice and took him 10 minutes to get our glasses. Finally, despite as much of pleasantries that we attempted with our server, our cheque was brought to us even before we asked with barely a thank you for coming. To note, I really appreciated the beginning of our experience. However, spending $250 on a dining experience with 1 star service was not what I expected on a day where I honored my late father who would have also disliked everything about the whole experience.Thank you.
This place is a new gem of New Haven — great, quick service and extremely accommodating to a variety of tastes and crowds. The staff is extremely friendly, from the hostess to the servers and bartenders, and especially the owners — they’re usually present making sure everything is no less than perfect. Also one of the few places to have an amazing patio, just in time for great weather!
Where to start.... the food runner/expo wasnt wearing a mask the whole time I was there. The lobster roll had a hurtful amount of lemon juice. The waiter was nowhere to be seen. Things floating in our cocktails. It was extremely warm inside. THE FOOD TOOK AN HOUR. And normally i leave at least a 30% tip regardless of service since we are in a pandemic, but the waiter already added gratuity to my table for 2. Enjoy the 18%. DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY HERE .
Food was okay. But the server seemed to be very grumpy and which was very uncomfortable. He was very serious and looked like as if he was waiting for us to leave. A very bad and uncomfortable experience ever.
First time I visited this establishment was GREAT; waiter, food, drinks everything. Second time not so much. Upon arrival greeter took our name a had us follow her and so we did…around the entire restaurant because she had no idea where our table was, finally she sits up in a corner table… no big deal food was something to look forward to. We wait roughly 20 minutes before or server introduces and asks if we would like to order any drinks not an issue it’s busy I get it. We order drinks and wait another 20minutes before we get them, server then comes with only one drink and states, “the bartender lost your tab she is making your pina colada now.” Another 15minutes passes my drink comes whipped cream melted completely overflowing with no straw which I had to wait another 10mins for when I caught the manager walking by. Drink is completely watered down, no flavor at all no coconut or pineapple, it tasted melted ice and whip cream. Fast forward now as I sit here typing this 28mins waiting and we have yet to even order our entree’s. Our apps came and the shrimp in the tostone was raw and gray. HIGHLY DISAPPOINTED!! Waiting for the check will be another 40mins I’m sure at this point we don’t even want an entree!
Ribeye cooked to perfection. Super high quality. I was a little apprehensive when I saw the prices but when the bill came I was pleasantly surprised. A few miscues by the wait staff but overall a very good experience. Just a note, if you order the Apple Cobbler they make it right then and there so it takes a bit. A plus overall. Definitely going back.
Went for cocktails and drinks. True mixologist in the field.I also enjoyed the duck breast. The potato gnocchi was overworked and creamy. More balls of mashed potatoes. But still good.Got oysters and lamb lollipops as appetizers.
A nice upper middle class restaurant. Got to introduce my wife to some finer dining and enjoyed the atmosphere. The pork belly melts in your mouth, the shrimp scampe was fantastic and the flank steak was perfectly prepared.
Not sure how the food was but the staff who greeted me were nice. Nice music playing in the background. They offer space for all kinds of parties. Picked up a Grubhub order and it smelled good. My customer order the Filet Mignon and gave me a nice tip!
OMG!!!! I dont often rate businesses but this place provided the best meal Ive had in Connecticut. The Roasted Chicken was tender with the perfect blend of spices. I paired it with the double baked potato. The Penne Ala vodka with Italian sausage was flavorful and creamy. My Passion Fruit Mojito was perfectly blended and hit the spot. This restaurant is beautiful and well kept. The server Jose was friendly and attentive. Even the mix of music genres they played was a great blend to enjoy while dining.
The food was very good, the waitress was incredibly nice, but the bus boy said an off handed remark to my girlfriend that made her very upset. The manager apologized, but nothing else was done or explained how the situation would be rectified. I’m not the type of person to review something negatively or at all for that matter (I’ve found hair and glass in food before I’ve just quietly left) but this was just careless. You wouldn’t even expect this from a place that cost a tenth of what we paid. We just wanted to treat ourselves for Valentines Day. I will not be returning and I will be letting my friends know not to go. This ruined our night.
Bad seating. Inattentive wait staff. Food was extremely over priced. Ended up paying $150 for a porterhouse for two. Peter Lugers doesn’t even charge $150 for a porterhouse for two. Had to dispute the charge due to poor service, seating, poor crowd control (the areas between my small table and the booth were congested with people), claustrophobic. Very anxiety provoking experience.
