We popped in for happy hour and were thrilled to have the patio all to ourselves! Our server was so friendly and helpful, the drinks were exactly what we wanted, and the Carrot Tempura was life changing. I need the recipe for that curry butter! We’ll definitely be back next time we are in New Orleans!
Much like the other two--fun eclectic 80s decor makes the experience. I highly recommend the caviar service. The creme fresh was made with potato chips and adds that perfect potato chips salt with a touch of elegance. I also loved the smoked hummus. I would say if youre familiar with this chef then you will be happy with this experience.
I was highly anticipating my visit to this restaurant but was completely overwhelmed by how great it was! Having an affection for Mollys Rise & Shine and Turkey & The Wolf In not sure why but it was just that good.First off, the martinis did not disappoint! You must not enjoy the 80s decor without one in hand. The food was just spectacular! Designed to share, four to five dishes were enough but I wish I could have sampled even more. The signature dish, artichokes on the half shell, did not disappoint and are a must-order on any visit. The Gulf Shrimp with shrimp boil potatoes and white wine tartar were excellent. The other two dishes packed some heat so be warned. The charred okra with fresno chili hot sauce might have been my favorite dish but ensure you have a glass of water nearby. The calamari curry was also exquisite but definitely on the spicy side as well. Both oddly worked well for the summer heat. They dont take reservations so plan accordingly. However they do note Sunday evenings are a good time to swing by with little to no wait.Just an excellent dining experience and I cant wait to return.
We went here for my friends birthday. The service we received at hungry eyes was possibly the worst I’ve ever had in New Orleans. As soon as we walked in we felt a very stuffy vibe from the staff. Our waitress was so rude to our group it was actually shocking. Scoffing at my friend for asking for a disposable napkin, raising her voice at us when we asked questions abt the menu, and using a condescending tone gave us the clear message that we were not welcome. She ruined my friends birthday celebration. We didn’t even ask for a dessert menu because we just felt the need to get out of there due to the animosity coming from the waitress. The food was ok and overpriced.
The food was good! I especially recommend the eggplant spread (I forget the menu item name). The service was good until about 30 minutes before we left. My friend did not like her drink and barely touched it, and our server never checked on us. We did not see her from the time she dropped our drinks off to when I had to flag her down for the check. Overall, it was an ok experience. I would take someone here for the drinks and maybe a small share plate.
I felt like we walked into an 80’s fever dream! cocktails were wonderful and our group got a bunch of plates to share ~ the food had interesting flavors and fun plating (i liked that the beef tartare came on a mcdonald’s plate lol). in general i think i might’ve liked their drinks a little bit more than i liked their food (some of the dishes felt too salty or greasy for my personal preference, but again, it was still relatively good, and also keep in mind that they have somewhat small portions for their food). would still be open to come back again to try their other dishes and drinks.
This place is so very cool. We sat at the bar. My buddy ordered a tequila drink and it was amazing. The drink pictured in the photo was the beatnik. It was one of the worst drinks I’ve ever had in my life, I’m pretty sure it was incorrectly mixed as it was so smoky/chili flavored I could not drink it. The bartenders were nice but a little aloof. A very aware bartender would notice that you’re not drinking your drink and asked to swap it out. I think it potentially was just closing time and people were ready to go.I’m still leaving a high review as we would come back again. I simply think it was just an off night and a bad pour on one drink.
I am a local and I love going out to eat and drink. My most recent experience at Hungry Eyes was abhorrent and I will never return. The service was absolutely terrible. I understand that it is hard to get good people, but our server was downright rude. With all of the other great options out there, the service experience from my most recent visit will definitely keep me from returning.
As a gen x, child of 80s, hungry eyes embodies much I recall from that era. The decor, food and cocktails were bold, big and loud AF. I loved it all. The cocktails I had were unique and had more layers of flavor than my hair back than. The food was bold but balanced all the while maintaining a fresh flavor profile with bursts of herbs and bites of crisp produce. The curry is phenomenal.
Mason Hereford does it again. Absolutely one of, if not the best, new restaurants in the city. It’s all small plates, so perfect to share with friends. We got artichokes on the half shell (or favorite), gulf shrimp, and steak with bleu cheese. Vieneta ice cream was nostalgic and top notch. Check them out for something different.
I love everything about this place. Creative and eclectic menu. Curry to die for!!! The cocktails pack a punch which I appreciate. No watering down of drinks. The decor is fun and funky. Definitely recommend a reservation as its small space.
It was a Thursday night and there were six of us sitting at the window table. We ordered almost everything on the menu. The food was great. Really a fun innovative menu - love it!Our server was visibly urked when after 20 minutes I asked about the cocktail I ordered. She was pissed that I asked. And said, yes, they have your order and was pointing to the bar. She never went to the bar to check after that. The whole table got quiet looking at her. She then proceeded to ignore our table. I will say, she tried to put on a happy face but it was empty.A gentleman came to deliver a couple of our dishes at one point and he was nice but all business. No smile no warmth.Im unlikely to return because of poor service even though the food is outstanding.Thanks.
Stopped by because the drink menu looked interesting. Ordered wine, a cocktail, and smoked egg plant dip.The wine was good and the dip was tasty. Unfortunately the $15 cocktail was not great and the Service was mediocre. I didnt drink the cocktail and they didnt notice. Paid $54.00 and was a bit disappointed. I wouldnt completely rule Hungry Eyes out but with so many other places in the neighborhood they should put in a little more effort.
Nothing short of what you’d expect from Mason and crew. Wide selection of shareable food (the crudo and artichoke on the half shell were excellent). The drinks are unique, delicious, and go down easy (the sparkling red wine was also great). Service was wonderful. Glad to have another late night option.
Loved everything about this place. Amazing food, amazing staff, fun atmosphere. I’ve been wanting to come here for awhile, and 12/10 did not disappoint. Thanks bartender Paige!
Surprising combinations make for an absolute treat for the taste buds. There is not a bad choice on this menu. We got so full on starters that we ended up eating mostly vegetables. Tempura carrots with curried butter...holy cr@p. The fries are duster with some combination of spice I cannot place but loved along with toum sauce (look it up). But the absolute fave was the shredded broccoli and cauliflower salad...it is not to be missed. Definitely going back to eat the entrees we just couldnt fit in our bellies this go round.
I didnt want to give this one star because the vibe is really nice and the service was OK, but the food was a rare miss for me, especially given the standard in New Orleans. We did the tasting menu and found most dishes to be completely out of balance, completely reliant on very heavy seasoning rather than interesting flavor combinations, cooking techniques or even just ingredient quality. The main dish was a piece of overcooked bland Pacific bass in a (to me) standard-tasting curry sauce. I didnt even touch the tiramisu dessert, but our server didnt check in as to why that was. The standout was a lightly fried carrot with a nice dipping sauce. Given the glowing reviews, I suspect we caught them on an off day.Other than a single oyster, everything we had seemed to be available on the a la carte menu, and unless that was a $10 oyster, it would have been cheaper to order a la carte as well.
I went for a cocktail and loved the vibes and the drinks! I’ll definitely be back. Good location - and if you drive, street parking was available right out front!
Our experience was great. We happened upon this place by luck when wandering the garden district and are thrilled we did. The bathrooms were a fun surprise in terms of decor!
This place lives up to the hype. $65 tasting menu is a deal for what you get. Still thinking about the calamari curry and halibut crudo.
The food was very good- lots of twists on more familiar foods but the cost was a bit on the high side, partook in the tasting menu and left very fulfilled.
Food menu was amazing, everything was a hit. Some of the most unique offerings and creative dishes in the city for sure. One of our martinis was pretty warm, the shaken options were fine though and flavours were good.Servers could use a little more training to sell me some more of the amazing roti with a curry dish - hard to tell how saucy things will be from the limited descriptions and I didn’t get a chance to flag them down.
The dishes are prepared well but not cohesive and heavy, rich. Youll finish your plate, lick your fingers, and then wonder why it costs what it does.
Atmosphere was cool, and drinks were unique and potent. The artichoke hearts were delicious, the curry was lackluster and too simple to differentiate amongst other curries in the city. Also at the very end you have to pay a 19% service fee as well explained by our waitress to help pay their wages which their boss should do. They do not tell you though about that charge until they have already charged you for it, they should warn you ahead of time. I always tip 20% or higher but that threw a cork in me ever wanting to dine here again. You shouldn’t charge service than expect a tip.
I rarely write reviews for anything on Google. This place was truly amazing. The food was out of this world, service was impeccable, the decor is such a fun blast from the past. This needs to be at the top of your list of places to try in New Orleans!
Hungry Eyes is an experience. I love the decor made me feel like i was in an episode of facts of life. Food was awesome. We basically ordered everything. Wine selection has lots of natural wines. The artichokes were really good. Servers were very nice and efficient.
Absolutely incredible!! You must try their grilled pastrami! I’ve never tasted anything like it. Our service was great, especially since they were about to close up on a Thursday eve. The venue is a bit Miami ( Gloria Estefan) classy 80’s look. I’m happy to give this restaurant another 5-Star review!! Well deserved and absolutely stunning! Thank you- Minneapolis.
Top Tier! When I say every sense was pleased! The ambiance radiates from outside the front door straight through to the back patio. We came with a large group and ordered multiples of the entire menu. Everything came out at once and was fresh. Not a single dish was disappointing or forgotten, and we had a group of 13 food connoisseurs. Imagine a warm, perfectly seasoned steak that melts in your mouth. Or a halibut concoction that has LAYERS of flavors released with each chew. I tasted Earl’s Seafood, a curry-infused dish that shocked my world. As a picky eater, I had ZERO complaints and I tasted everything! We had a chance to meet Mason and his wonderful wife. They are so humble and sociable. The chefs are unseen, but highly intelligible when it comes to food! We HAD to thank them personally. THANK YOU! Until we visit again….
Big fan of Mason’s other ventures (I’m a regular at Turkey and the Wolf and Molly’s Rise and Shine), so was stoked to check this out. Awesome decor and incredible cocktails. Friendly staff. Food was fairly decent too. All of the items felt like rich appetizers but they were interesting.
This team cant miss! The menu items sound strange but just go with it. You wont be disappointed. I got the beet-based cocktail and was absolutely in love.
Drinks are always phenomenal and so is the varied menu. Never a bad experience. Just be wary of the level of noise that comes on busier nights. Makes it hard to converse at the table at times.
The food was good, but the cocktails were not. We had three cocktails at the table and passed them around to try ... none were good. A weird thing happened ... found a piece of a quart container in the fry sauce ... gave it to the waitress, and then no one said anything or seemed to care. Usually, someone addresses these issues. I didnt want a refund or anything.
One of my favorite restaurants in New Orleans! I crave the artichoke dish on a daily basis.
Simply terrible. May have been the worst meal we have had in New Orleans in 5 years. Started off with warm martinis and cosmos followed by over spiced Crudo and an inedible hanger steak that was fatty and under cooked. Top it off with cheap 80s art and lighting and you have all the making of a forgettable experience. Avoid at all costs. So many better more dependable choices on Magazine Street.
One of the best meals I’ve ever had. The cocktails are amazing as well. Kudos to ownership and management this place hits all the right notes.
This place was unbelievable! My family came in with a party of 13 and the food came out in under 20 mins! The staff were kind and helpful. We ordered almost everything off the menu and man! I couldn’t stop licking my fingers! My favorite was the steak! GET THE STEAK! PLEASE! Inside of the restaurant looks retro! It took me back to my childhood! Chef Hereford and his team made our night!Thank You
Great new restaurant. It makes you feel, as if you were in a tready 80s bar. The food is great! The artichokes on a half shell was a great vegetarian take on the popular oysters meal, that os NOLA famous.
Hip spot for a good meal. Its a somewhat limited menu, but each dish is done well.
Mason Hereford is a culinary genius. Everything, from the service, cocktails, atmosphere, and the food was exemplary. Highly recommend the curry, gulf shrimp, artichoke hearts, steak, and the crab boil potatoes.
Just what NOLA needed, another overpriced cocktail venue. The martinis were under-poured and the icing on the top was the automatic 18% added gratuity. Sad thing is, I always tip 20%. Not today!
Im inclined to do 4,as always leave room for improvement, to do so would be a travesty.Neo-Culinary & Neo-Capitalism. Great Food, novel approach to business. The Halibut Crudo is sublimely ridiculous, the decor is soothing at time I went, staff attentive. The Expresso Martini could do with a Chicory version (erthing in New Orleans can do with a tad of Chicory). One thing Ill be doing is going back. Oh, the wine list is intriguing. Kudos Mason, thanks for a oasis in my exasperating home town.
The 80’s decor was on point and the food was delicious but what surprised me was the staff. They were amazing!! Carlos was our bartender and he was fantastic!
Fantastic food, great vibes, great service. Well deserving of their recent call-out as one of the 25 best restaurants in NOLA by the NY Times.
Lived up to the hype and maybe even surpassed it. The food was incredible and the 80s vibe transports you back in time. Service was fantastic. Its an experience. Absolutely fantastic.
It was an absolute pleasure having cocktails and dinner at Hungry Eyes. Highly recommend if you love a great setting, great food and Martinis on draft!!!
What a fun vibe! Very creative and delicious drinks and INCREDIBLE menu of small plates. Will be happily returning!
Cocktails were funky, fun, but maybe just ok? Food was delicious, vibe was great.
Great small plates, but a bit expensive.
Great happy hour, love the steak tartare
Time warp for your mind and a major flavor experience for your mouth! Wow wee!
THE FOOD IS INCREDIBLE! THE MARTINIS ARE A DREAM COME TRUE! THE STAFF IS A VENN DIAGRAM OF THE MOST ATTRACTIVE AND MOST TALENTED IN (LIKELY) THE WHOLE WORLD!
Great service, pretty good food! A little on the expensive side, which is why it gets a 4-star.
Great stuff all the way around 👏 👍 👌 😀 🙌 💪 👏 amazing!
I liked the vibe and food there. It would have been perfect if our server was a little friendlier.
Love the amazing food, original cocktails and 80s theme!
Cool vibe, great service, and creative yummy food. Nails it all!
