This used to be the local hang out. I’ve moved away and don’t frequent this place like I used to. …..now I visit when in town on business.Kudos to the new owner for updating a few things but to be honest I really miss the old vibe and the old bartenders.Every holiday there were decorations galore… does this no longer happen?I will return in the future but really did prefer the eclectic dive bar atmosphere it once had.
It’s was cool place, there was some kind of valentines event going on, but it seemed unorganized and no one knew what was going on. Bathrooms are insanely weird. There’s a toilet where you go number 2, and right in front of it was the sink where everyone washes their hands. This is all in the same “hallway” that the urinals are which form an “J” shaped. The end being the toilet and the corner being the sink.Staff was friendly at first. Zack, whom had a similar hairstyle to the cutie ASAP Rocky seemed like a cool person, friendly to everyone and laughing, but whenever I would ask for another round, he wouldn’t even speak to me. Just a nod and a side eye. I didn’t say much to him besides my drink order and where the bathroom was. After the second and third drink, I had to build up courage each time to raise my hand for another drink. I can’t say if he was in a bad mood or not since he was laughing and joking with everyone, new or regular. But he just seemed to have a chip on his shoulder towards me for some reason.Overall, I probably won’t go again unless it’s with friends so they can order. Or probably whenever Zack is not working. He’s seems like a nice guy, but my interaction with him wasn’t the most welcoming. Went here trusting they weren’t gonna be like the other popular gay bars with stuck up bartenders and people, but damn. This made me just wanna stay inside.
Michael and Bill have created a wonderful atmosphere, its like Cheers for Gays! Lots of fun activities with a neighborhood watering hole personna! Thanks guys, we love you!!
Been here a few times before. The bartenders were rude and even denied us the 2-4-1 because we didn’t know. Most bartenders will let you know. Tim just started working here and he is the BEST! He makes everyone feel welcome. He cares about this customers. The best thing about TIM? He loves to keep the place clean! I will definitely be bringing everyone here :)
Kind of sad but I have not been having the best experiences at this bar lately. Its still great but the last few times Ive been there have been boring and the service not that great. Ron and Chuck are always golden but the other bartenders and staff seem a bit more grumpy and quiet. I was even hung up on by one of the bartenders when I called. Also the clientele is getting rougher and um....just not pleasant. There are some very annoying types that go there and get drunk and I have even seen drug use. I also have seen large roaches and it smells like feet and balls in there. Many of the folks who frequent that bar also like to pass gas. I am serious. Still a good bar but I am not as crazy about it as I used to be.
Nu Towne is a fantabulous bar. I feel like quoting Nirvana and saying Come as you are. I dont feel judged when Im there, the patrons, bartenders and drinks are top-notch. The building itself plays a lovely host. It definitely doesnt break-the-bank to drink there. Its cash only, and as a service they dont have an ATM, they will give you $20 increments in cash off your card without fees.
Since 1983 I have been going to Nutowne Saloon and its the best little bar in town. Always fun to go to, great staff and looks like an antique shop when you go in with all the props gives it real nice atmosphere. It has changed so much but still the same. A great place to feel like family and very welcome every time! Thanks Ron for keeping it all together.
Ive lived all over the country. I can honestly say without a doubt this is the best gay bar Ive ever been too. All of the bartendere are great at what they do and very friendly. I moved here and didnt know anyone and now the people Ive met there are like family. Everyone is so down to earth no one judges you and there are all walks of life there old and young and all races its a great melting pot and the bartenders do such a fantastic job at making it a great safe place. Ive tried the other gay bars in town and they are alright but nothing beats this place. Shout out to Chuck he is seriously the nicest, funniest down to earth bartender Ive met. If I could give this place 10 stars I would.
The Nu Towne Saloon was a great place, so much to do there. I had a awesome night and Kevin was professional and gave me a great service 😊 I will definitely come visit again next time Im in town 🤩
First and only time here . Ordered one drink (which was good) I was told that it cost 8$ and the bartender didn’t ask if I wanted to keep my tab open and he closed it and charged 20$ Automatically . Then he tells me,”we run credit cards in 20$ increments “. He gave me 11$ cash… This was in my opinion low and unprofessional and the 20$ increments for credit cards should have been communicated up front. I really hope he is in a good place in life because he is obviously hard up for cash. Bless his heart ❤️ I honestly wanted more drinks and his lack of professionalism made me leave.
Two thumbs up shout out to the Manager Sam and staff at my favorite taco tabernacle.A very enjoyable evening with friends - their first visit, they are looking forward to visiting again soon. The music, provided by the very talented guitarist- 24 Karat added greatly to the evening. Margaritas were excellent and the spin on Irish Nachos was tasty!Home base is N Scottsdale, but the drive to this favorite spot is worth it. See you soon!
Do not judge a book by its cover. What a hidden little gem! Inside is much bigger then what it seems from the outside and what a cute cute place. Patio is fantastic- hell the entire place is. Id come here all the time if I lived here. Just love it
Im straight and this bar was very friendly! Visited on Saturday around May?. Bartenders/owners were awesome. Draft beers are lil pitchers, great price. Everyone was welcoming and conversated, even tho, when asked, I told them I was straight. Very very awesome place. Just wish I got that Lesbians #, even tho we had a good time..😔
This is a friendly, small town bar. On the random night I found myself there with a date, we enjoyed ourselves, despite the fact the bar was virtually empty. There are a couple of dart boards and pool tables, and a large smoking patio.
The Nutowne is a cool looking bar with a nice patio, pool table, good drinks and friendly bartenders. But crowd-wise its pretty unpredictable. I was just there on a Saturday night prime time and it was practically dead. (But the one guy walking around with his ass totally out of his pants was definitely NOT dead!) Then Ive been on a weeknight when they were having some lame drag show and there was a big crowd. And although I havent been, apparently their Sunday beer bust is wall to wall men. So if you go dont assume that since its Friday night it will be packed with available men. I guess it might be but call and ask someone whos a regular to get the inside dope.
Havent been here in years and years and years.... this is the quintessential gay bar.... fun, great renovation job after the fire, and it just seems like the places youd go to waaaay back in the day, like The Stud in San Francisco... just fun. All they need is to spread the word... currently Sundays are great, Tuesdays good, and they need to focus on the rest of the week...
Do not come here if you are not one of the regulars!!We came from out of state.Sat at the bar for 15 minutes without service. This is an eternity for bar time. When another regular patron asked the bartender to get us drinks, he told him he would get to us when he was through with the people he was serving. This meant when he was through talking with them. That was one long conversation.Left and went to another gay bar. This place gives gays an undeserving bad name.Spend your money elsewhere.
I was a regular way back in the 70s! Its great to know its still there, unlike most of the Phoenix I knew. It was quite scandalous back then, especially on Sunday afternoons and Monday beer bust. Bob and Andy ran the place. and there was another owner Jimmy who had blond hair. It was a hoot! Hope to get back sometime.
For a bar that has a flag that requires respect, that they don’t have. They place loud music after midnight from Sunday to Monday in a area of residential condominiums and the apartments that face the bar suffer from the noise coming from inside the bar. My son who is autistic lost his sleep at 1:30 am this Monday as well other days. A lot of disrespect for the neighborhood and children with special needs.
Five stars since Timmy is here thurs-sun! He was our favorite bartender before and were glad hes back! Most down to earth and best service!
Well known saloon and pub. Call for special events and drink specials nightly. Bartenders are great and crowd is casual. Definitely gay friendly and open for all to enjoy, gay or straight. One big happy family.
NuTowne is open again! I had a great time! It was so nice to see friends again!. Like all businesses, we need to obey the guidelines, or else they may have to shut down again! Lets not let that happen!Their are sanitizer bottles in many places. Use them. Please be seated without a mask. One of the major advantages of NuT is having an evap cooler system that brings in fresh clean air constantly through the bar, and on the patio another evap draws from the north. The air gets expelled out from the space above the patio canopy. Now, theres a lot of different scenerios playing out, but if we do just the basics asked for,we could enjoy this for at least a few months. Make do.
Stopped in before and after a show at the Marquee Theatre. Fun patio interesting decor inside this long time gay dive bar.
Rude bartender. I attended last week. Despite I have been there before. The glass of wine is $4.50 but I did only have $4.45 in cash. This exacerbated the bartender who yelled at me in a very rude manner YOU GAVE ME $4.45 I had only three more cents. But the way this man looked at me. I just gave him my debit card. After receiving my card back with $14.00 I asked why, then the guy told me that It was like atm, I asked how much you charge? He said $1.00. He apologized saying, Im sorry I thought you knew. He was intolerant for 0.05 Cents but did not mention anything about the atm fee. I stayed until I finished my drink and left. The place is nice but this man was a real jerk.
Finished up lunch next door at Honey Bears, and we were curious at what we saw in the back. We wandered in to find a piece of Arizona and LGBTQ history. Very warm staff, cheap stiff drinks. Out of this world Halloween decorations.
This place has an excellent Shirley Temple that has a twist of citrus that went nicely with the drink. I enjoyed interacting with the staff and will bring friends and family here in the future.
Terrible karaoke dj...if you arent a friend you dont have a chance.....hed rather eat with his husband and dog while working during his shift.. also if you dont know this hispanic guy or are a regular you wont be on the list any time soon.
Krystal and Kevin are amazing bartenders! Such a cool spot - found it on a whim.
I came from out of town years ago I used to go to Newtown it was a lovely bar to go to not Ive been here 12 years Ive been around to all the bars the most happy bar that Im in is at Newtown I love that bar I just think it needs more promotion Im from Los Angeles and I can see that if you had a little bit more promotion you would make more money
Staff is horrible and owner Agees my money would be better spent at other bars the owners personally said horrible things m
Charged me 3$ cover one night for no reason. No blackout no show no event not even a lot of people. They had a drunk DJ who looked like he was falling asleep playing the same playlist they always play which includes hits like the chicken dance and what does the fox say. Also I was the only person I spoke to that whole night that was even charged to get in.
Its a chill bar with a great patio. They have a metal tree in the middle of the patio that gives shade in the summer and reflects the light at night. Sundays are one of busiest days/nights.
I’ve always had a fun time here, especially those Sunday patio afternoon times, at my request the DJ will play Sylvester “DO YOU WANNA FUNK” and the baby boomers hit the floor! Awesome fun.
Fun gay, western hole in the wall, older when the suns up, young people trickle in, have had nothing but a great time here
Nu Towne is awesome. It is laid back and a place where we can go without fear of being hassled. The drink are good. So is the eye candy!
Here it is Christmas Eve, eve, and im sitting here with my boy, george, havin a cele drink. Good times. Good beves. Ron is top of his game as usual. Good music. Oh snap ! Some hottie just bought us both drinks. Later....
Good place for all people no matter their orientation. Lots of bears
Had no idea it was a gay bar...which isnt a problem but there were no women! Lol Still a nice quiet bar with strong drinks and nice staff. Love the decor and metal tree on the smoking patio!
The staff here and the customers are so nice and non judgemental. All are welcome and Sundays are a day to enjoy day drinking
Delightful.Scott was a great host on a slow Monday night.I met some of the locals. All good people. Will be back.
Fun place for Sunday, Holloween decorations are the best. The staff always makes you feel like part of the family.
$20 increments! 👎But guy kept bugging me & my husband and kept using derogatory words! Told us we were worthless! Got up and left. Will NEVER return!
Absolutely love this place. Bartenders are cool especially Chuck! Hes good people and can make a mean drink!
Had a fantastic evening! Chuck is a legend. It was a Wednesday and quite slow, perfect for conversation and special music requests.
Amazing ambiance, great karaoke. Positive bar for positive people, with well-priced wells :)And the patio is freaking amazing, looking forward to going back!
3 starts because I dont know the atmosphere. Because I came home in the middle of the day and I found myself inside the night and Nobody to greet me at the bar
Inside is nice and the bartenders there are very nice just the area around it is kind of sketchy probably want to lock your car doors😕
Nice bar. Good drinks and amazing bartenders. Just wish it wasnt so far from home LOL.
This place is amazing! The staff is awesome and the prices are so very reasonable! You cant beat this place for a fun filled night with friends!

Fun local place without the attitude of other bars.
Amazing staff. Great drinks. A place were you can just enjoy yourself!!
Sunday beer bust is the place to be to wind down your weekend and Truck Stop Fridays are the perfect way to kick it off.
Great East Valley Bar. Lots of great customers. They are getting ready for Halloween 🎃🎃
Chandler location is just okay.
Best damn bar in town. Hands down. Unassuming outside, an amazing staff and fun inside.
The staff makes you feel right at home. Had a wonderful experience cannot wait to come back :)
Nice kinda hole in the wall vibe but its not gross and dirty. 👌service was great too.
