The Architect Bar & Social House

I hosted a private event there recently, and the vibe that we created here at The Architect fit very nicely. The staff was good to work with and the drinks were great. The only issue I had is that the stair lift chair did not work, so our older and more handicapped guests were at a disadvantage, due to the steep stairs. Other than that, I would recommend this place for younger crowds that want to have a good time in downtown Raleigh.

This is a really cute establishment with a secret “speak easy”. The staff and security were extremely friendly and the drinks were very good. Prices are what you would expect. I would recommend this place and will definitely go back. If you want to visit the “speak easy”, it is best to get a reservation although we were able to get in for a few minutes without one; of course this depends on how busy they are.

My wife and I stumbled upon this place completely by accident. When we found it, it was open but mostly empty and the host let us know about the speakeasy hidden behind bookcases so we gave it a go. First off, it’s got great atmosphere, cozy and inviting. We sat at the bar and the bartender was just amazing. There were a few other people in the bar but he was not busy and was personable, chatty and very knowledgeable regarding his craft. My favorite type of bartender. We were just one and done but both of our cocktails were delicious. The experience was great and we are looking forward to coming back.

Excellent bartenders! Fantastic service, and the best drinks we had all night during our bar crawl! They were also generous with the water, which I really appreciated since a lot of bars scoff at you when you ask for water! They had great music and a good atmosphere.We even saw that the light was on for the Green Light Bar (representing the green light at the end of Daisy Buchanans dock in The Great Gatsby). Four members of our party were able to head back to the mini bar behind the bookcase, and ordered even more fabulous cocktails in a quaint little space holding perhaps enough seating for 20 people.

Awesome bourbon. Great and very knowledgeable staff and bartenders! Was here for a business and bourbon event.It’s a very neat venue with an old school prohibition feel.There’s a speak easy thy you have to make a reservation to get into. YOU should do this!YOU should also come here to drink absolutely wonderful cocktails.If you want to learn about booze and cocktails, these guys are more than happy to educate you.Highly recommend!

Bartender did not know her drinks at all. I ordered a mojito (was on their menu) & it came out clear & tasteless. Didn’t even taste like mint. Where was the lime juice? Will not be returning.

We actually went to the speakeasy inside The Architect (Greenlight). Private, good-looking bar with solid drinks and fair prices. The only problem: really small!!! There are very few tables, so reservations would be a godsend. No food, so eat something before.Luckily, youll find parking somewhere nearby (we had to walk a few blocks).

Hidden in the heart of Downtown Raleigh, up the stairs and behind a bookcase, that only the secret knock will reveal. The cocktails are amazing, the service, impeccable, and the atmosphere is nothing short of sophisticated.

The drinks were so good BUT THE LIVE BAND man so was amazing on a Wednesday night!! Definitely will be coming back!!!

Secret speakeasy, welcoming and safe atmosphere, good DJ, ideal for people who want to dance but have outgrown the college scene and glenwood.the star of the show was manager Justin who walked my friend and I to our car around 1am to make sure we got back safely. he also made custom snickerdoodle shots for our group. absolutely incredible experience and cant wait to go back!

We went to see the NIITO band, and it was a vibe. I really like this place. It was greatvmusic.

One server was a tad bit and they could use just a few more seats. Otherwise, I had a great time.

I went here for the first time last night and I will definitely be back! The bartenders are awesome! I can’t remember her first name but I believe her last name is Paradise, but she was awesome and made an amazing drink for me! Everyone working there has such an awesome vibe!

Greenlight shot was definitely interesting...great if you love spice but the habanero definitely has a kick. Honey rose cocktail was delicious! Good variety of drinks. Ambiance is cozy

Fun place. The Green Light secret bar was pretty neat, too. We had drinks and a good time. Bartenders were nice and quick to serve.

First time going here with my husband during our date night. The place was empty I guess coz it was early. The bartenders were excellent, the atmosphere was great. We asked about the greenlight room which I heard about from a coworker. One of the bartenders was kind enough to give us a little peak inside. Weve never experienced this much interaction with the bartenders before, maybe because it wasnt busy yet that time. We appreciated the time they took for us. Will be coming back next date night for sure.

Visited with a few people on a Saturday night. Spun around a bit for parking, but Im not very familiar with downtown and I made it more complicated than necessary. No wait to get in. Area is upstairs; I noticed what seemed to be a wheelchair lift beside the steps. Spacious. I enjoyed the music. I would return.

Amazing atmosphere there live music is amazing their drinks is amazing its diverse I love the energy and would definitely do it all over again I went May 16th and had a blast so come check them out if yall like live music good drinks and diversity and the bartender hes definitely hot

Our bartender was the highlight of our evening, so talented and just a pure light. We laughed the whole evening and felt like we had the most exceptional service. Will be back just for her!! Thank you, Cheyanne!!

Had such an amazing time! We got our drinks pretty quickly, the staff was super nice and the drinks were good. The music was good, there was plenty of room to dance and also plenty of seating options. Will definitely be returning in the future!

I had such an amazing time at the green light bar! Very unique and chill experience. The most amazing was meeting Jobani! She was really outgoing and funny! She showed me around the architect bar and educated me on the rental details for a party… What I absolutely LOVED was Jobani’s personality, makeup and ensemble! She rocked it and we all were admiring her beauty! I love to go places where the host is a doll and a hoot 😂 Will most definitely return just for her!

I would 100% recommend this place solely because of the bouncer who took such good care of my drunk friend. He kept checking on him and brought him water and a chair. Making sure he was okay. I have honestly never experienced this type of service at a bar especially from a bouncer. I didn’t get his name, but he deserves the world. Thank you. It meant a lot. You know who you are.

Great bar that turns into a club on the weekends. Late 20s to early 40s is typically the age range you can expect here. You can always reserve VIP on the weekends to ensure you can skip the line. Also, if you enjoy great libations then be sure to text and get on the lift for the green room which is the hidden bar behind the bookshelf. Definitely worth getting on the list. More intimate and only seats about 20 people at a time. Must text to be permitted access.

I love this place. I live in Ohio but my family lives in the Raleigh/Durham area and we visit this place every time Im in town. Great vibe/ atmosphere. The DJ is always great and the staff is really friendly & attentive!!! Always a great night when we party at Architect!

I used to love the Architect. However, last Saturday (around 11:30 pm) my fiance and I went out with a group of people to celebrate our engagement. Several were permitted to enter then one person was stopped and told to pay to enter. I offered to pay for the remaining members of our party but was told I was not permitted to pay for the other members of our group (about 10 total, four were not required to pay, those who were charged were persons of color). I asked to switch with a friend of mine to have her enter the club while I waited in line with my fiance and was yelled at to go upstairs. A woman who had too much to drink had fallen while leaving (steep staircase at the entrance not part of our group) and was being helped up by her friend. I could not go up the stairs and the bouncer screamed at me to move when there were people on the stairs helping the drunk woman get up. I asked why he was being hostile with me and said I would be able to walk upstairs when the stairs were clear. I handed my fiance a dollar for his entrance and went to walk up the stairs/around the fallen woman and was screamed at to leave. I was angry but calm and agreed to leave as our business was clearly not wanted. As my friend walked out without protesting the bouncer touched her without her consent. Our group had just arrived downtown and no one was drunk, disorderly, loud, etc. We were all calm and excited to dance. Neither myself nor my friends will be returning to this establishment. I had considered having our wedding at this location as it is a beautiful space but I am happy to say that we chose another venue.

Went there for a New Years Eve bash and it was the perfect atmosphere. With it being so cold, having coat check was nice. DJ was eclectic and drinks were made just right. I would love to go back on a regular weekend.

Very mixed reviews on here, but my husband and I visited anyways. After reading all the negative reviews on here I was really worried I wasnt going to like this place but I actually had a blast. Bouncers were friendly, drinks were good, and the DJ WAS AMAZING! He played everything old & new, spanish/hiphop/pop. It was phenomenal. The only reason I gave this bar 4 stars is because the drinks we were buying got more and more expensive every time we went back to the bar. First time we bought 2 drinks we paid 16. We went back and bought the same drinks for 19. And the last time I went to the bar I only bought 1 drink (same one we were drinking previously) and I paid 13. Pretty sure they were taking advantage of all the drunk people. However, this place was packed and the music was great. Id go back.

Disappointed because the Google description (creative cocktails, craft beer) is inaccurate, as well as their online menu. They dont have a cocktail menu, do not have any beer in tap and bartender was not really helpful or friendly, considering it was pretty slow. We went around 7:30 so it may become more lively and fun later in the night.

This spot is fun. I dont go to bad much at home. But on vacation this place is very fun! The green light is a cool place to visit and get a drink while you are here. Give this place a shot if you wanna have fun and dance and be a cool kid and drinks behind the book shelf!

Had our office party there, so I probably wasnt seeing the normal atmosphere, but liked what I saw. My drinks were generous and I liked the layout. I especially liked the option of the smaller section behind the bookshelf - quieter and you could actually talk to people more easily.

Bomb af. Smells weirdly nostalgic. Great service. Tasty drinks. Especially love the cool chairs and lighting. We got there before 8pm, so cannot comment on what the late night crowd is like. Highly recommend get there early to have it all to yourself

Our reservation got messed up, but the manager Justin went above and beyond to rectify the issue. He moved things around to make sure we had a seat & then even walked us to their sister restaurant, The Merchant. Drinks were fab. Thanks Justin!!

I love the speakeasy idea but didnt love the execution of this one. Its not very secret, and I was looking forward to a more customized drink experience than I got. It was too busy (Sat night) to be able to talk to the bartenders, so we just ordered from the menu. I might give it another try on a weeknight.

Great vibe and music at night, the interaction with people there is very minimal. It take a bit to get to the bar because it is crowded. Had a bad experience, had a set of girls arrived for a birthday celebration,at their supposed open hour which was 5 pm, the bartender that was there was rude and told us to leave immediately, it was tone of the request. Yet online it states it was open at 5 pm and their doors were open.

I am new to this establishment as of January of 2014. I have come to love it and feel a part of the family. These folks are great and the tone is set by the owner and manager, to all the staff that work there. I regularly attend the bluegrass shows on Wednesday nights and have met quite a few new friends that I enjoy seeing when I attend. Jim B

Ive been here before and its not bad. People go there to drink and yes they get drunk. I was waiting outside the restrooms waiting for my friend to come. When a bouncer comes to me and tells me Im too drunk. I told him i was just waiting for my friend and he grabs me and drags me out for no reason. Very uncalled for because i did nothing just waiting for my friend to finish using the restroom. Because of that experience i probably wont be going back.

Nice trendy bar. The secret room was full, but the outer bar was not. My husband and I were def the oldies there (50 and 48 respectively), but were celebrating our (future) daughterinlaws 21st bday. It was a Saturday night, about 1030p, the bar started filling up and we peaced out and let the younger generation enjoy! All in all it was a nice place and the staff was very welcoming.

We asked for a bourbon drink mixed and he came up with something amazing. Seats 25 people you must call ahead for seating definitely a must stop. Very friendly staff, truly a enjoyable experience

If your looking to meet new people, have a really fun time, or jut straight up dancing, ARCHITECT is definitely the place to be at! Prices are good on the drinks. a bouncer name KENNY and his buddy are by far the chillest bouncer. I personally want to say thanks for being just a really cool guy and not a dick bouncer. definitely better than cornerstone and aquamy for sure.

This is a little hole-in-the-wall and youll walk right past if youre not looking for it. However, once you climb the stairs you will not be disappointed (unless youre looking for food). They have a great beer selection with bar snacks available. Theres also a speak-easy style room behind a secret bookshelf. Very neat idea!

Me and my friends went here on a Friday night to have some fun. It was crowded (which is to be expected) and the staff was rude. One of the bouncers asked my group to move away from the exit door. Several other groups were standing around the exit, but we were the only ones asked to move. When I asked the bouncer why we were the only ones asked to move out of the way, he didnt say anything, but a minute later almost knocked me over laughing with another staff member. He looked at me and continued to laugh making it seem as though it was done on purpose. I have been to this bar/club several times and never had an issue. But after having a beer spilled on me and one bouncer laughing and shrugging it off like it was nothing, and another basically racial profiling, I will not be coming here again.

Walked in on a whim since i was new in town. Great variety of classics, Trap, top 40 music. Diverse crowd which I loved and drama free. It very hot this night for some reason but it was lit.

Idk what has happened to this place. I used to rave about the dj and how good he was. This weekend he played the same three songs over and over. I think he was drunk or just didnt care... no one wants to hear Fergie 8 times in one hour. Sad. Gave the stars cause the bartenders in the back are always great.

Cool bar with a great space to chat with friends. My company hosted a holiday party and only the music volume detracted from the experience. I had to lean into everyone to hear what they were saying, which is to be expected a night club, but needs to be toned down for this environment.

Sweet little bar, great collection of spirits and a few tasty beers. Bonus was I showed up on turntable Tuesday. And the secret door is just cool. Great place to bring a lady.

The bouncers are unfortunately the reason I won’t ever go back to architect. They banned my ID for a year from every bar in Raleigh that uses the patron scan system (which is about 90% of bars in downtown and on Glenwood) when I called them out for using the R word to describe someone. I hadn’t had a drink yet that night, I wasn’t belligerent and certainly not aggressive. I’m a special education teacher and am not interested in hearing prejudiced slurs thrown around so I just told the guy it wasn’t an appropriate word to use. They love using power to “get back” at people I suppose. I’ve heard of quite a few other people complaining about the bouncers here and the issues or at least the rudeness and unprofessionalism they’ve experienced.

I was met at the door by the most rude doorman Ive ever encountered in my life. The cover for entrance at this establishment was $2.00. I gave the doorman a $10.00 Bill to then get $3.00 in return. I informed the doorman that he owed me another $5.00 and he began to argue with me that I had given him a $5.00 and not a $10.00 Bill followed by insults regarding my mathematical abilities. The doorman then threw my $10.00 bill onto the floor ( not the supposed $5.00 bill he said I gave him... ) and told me to go to the beach and jerk off. I calmly picked up my money and walked away as the doorman continued to holler racial insults at my group. I want to give you zero stars but there is no option to do so.

Watch your card.A few months ago I came to The Architect, opened a tab at the bar. Closed it at the end of the night. And then the next morning the charge was completely different then the amount I signed for. I had to dispute it through my bank.Three nights ago I went back and decided to give them another chance. I opened a tab at the bar. Closed it at the end of the night. And sure enough Im seeing in my account right now that the amount is completely different and am in the process of disputing it with my bank now.If you go to this place with cash Id rate it 5 stars. If you go there with your card Id give it 1 star.

Great music. Gigantic dance floor and nice outdoor space that they share with the bar downstairs. Drinks are normal Raleigh prices ~$4-5 for a beer.

Very, very much a college bar. Too packed, exceedingly loud, definitely a place to be wasted rather than a place to drink. Fun though if thats what youre looking for. Decent DJ and dancefloor, too.

Do yourself a favor and visit the Architect Bar soon. It is super fun. However, if visiting on Friday/Saturday, make sure you text them ahead of your visit to reserve a spot in the Green Light. Otherwise, prepare to wait.

The atmosphere is great and the DJ was good. The people were obnoxious: throwing cups/drinks/bottles to the ground or into the crowd when they were done, shoving for space on the dance floor, etc.

Ive been to a few events here and love the large and spacious open concept of this bar. Not really a drinker, but Ive been to some awesome dance parties here...nice mixed crowd and DJs are usually on point.

Visited this establishment last night during my friends bachelorette party around 1:30am for drinks, at last call the bartender(whose name I was told is Nicki) was deliberately spraying windex on customers standing close to the bar while laughing about it. When I said something to her about it, she shrugged and acted like it was okay to spray chemicals on guests because she was trying to clean up, which is absurd because her arm extended past the bar so that she could spray my friends and fellow dancers with cleaning products!! Cant contain how angry this makes me seeing her apparent disdain for her customers. Wont being going back any time soon. If there was an option to leave no stars, I would have.

The bartender claimed that he didnt have my card when I asked to close the tap! That wasnt the problem but when he said that to me he hit me and ask me to leave! I didnt respond or anything but when to another female bartender and she gave me my card back then the first bartender followed me and said when you open a tap that means you leave it open! I said what does that even mean? I opened the tap and had number of drinks and after couple of hours there I was ready to leave thats why I asked to close it but anyway that wasnt the issue! The issue that you said you didnt even have my card to begin with and hit me! In a nutshell of you are a foreigner this whole state is not where you wanna be at

New resident of Downtown Raleigh. Contacted this establishment months ago (via the form on their website) regarding renting their space for an event. They never responded so I took my business elsewhere and will not be recommending to other event planners for a venue. Communication and responsiveness is very important!

I came to the bar and ordered a double vanilla vodka/diet Coke.. its 1am and the bar is surprisingly not as busy as it usually is for a Friday, but i had got an order in rather quickly (note: 1 star)Upon handing him my card to pay for my own drink hed made be, I was charged $17 for the one, SINGLE double drink.Lets remind you:: I am not in a large city paying for a club price drink.. I am in a ratchet-ass bar in the middle of downtown Raleigh!!!! The bartender charged me $17 for a double at a regular.ass.bar!?!I asked, then begged the bartender to take it back after he rang me up, as I am not able to afford THAT much on any single drink.. He explained to me he cannot take the drink or charge back, so I asked to speak to a manager, and what do you guess, he said he was the manager.. great! also stating if I did not pay for the drink I would be ARRESTED!!!!Ok, so I had a budget - thanks for letting me in on how your boujee ass over priced bar that was such a rip off that no one (who knew any better) in their right mind would come here.. if you do, on a weekend night, youre at your own risk.

Amazing venue for casual night out or private/business functions. Amazing staff and atmosphere! Planning an upcoming business networking event that will be held here and looking forward to an awesome evening.

First time here and it was so fun! The staff was great and definitely looked after their guests.

Cool bar/social house. Lots of dancing and drinking. Its pretty dark, but has a lot of cool artwork and decorated well. They have bottle service and one big bar. I had alot of fun last time I was here.

Kind of annoyed that I just drove an hour to come up here after checking the website only to find out that theres a private party going on and we cant be seated or have a drink at the bar. With all these places and all this so-called new technology they use, at least have the common freaking courtesy to post that s*** online so people dont waste time and money for parking

Nicely decorated, but dead on a Saturday night. I think it would work better as a bar, but theyre trying to be a club, with a dancefloor and very little seating.

Ive only ever been here for drinks and dancing late night. The music played is a good variety. However, it is WAY TOO HOT. Its so uncomfortable. PLEASE get some air flow!

Its okay, every time I go here its way too crowded though, it has an awkward layout so no matter what youre always shimming past people trying to get anywhere. By the way, the stairs here are TREACHEROUS if youre inebriated. You trip youll break your neck!

Awesome setting when the green light is lit and you get to go behind the bookshelf to discover the hidden portion of the place. The Prohibition vibe is nice and well achieved.

The type of bar listed on Google is a little misleading but no worries this place lived pass whats listed music was great playing modern music mixed with some 90s and 80s no cover charge, crowed but not overwhelming

Do not use a credit card here. They significantly increased the amount I tipped and signed for. I was lucky to be able to dispute through my credit card company, but this is Fraud!

This place is similar to a scene out of the movies; Blade, The Matrix or John Wick! A true underground way of how to experience a Drink (wink - wink).

My second time there, worst place ever. Was treated really rude by owner never coming back to this place. I’ve tried calling the number owner Jon provided numerous times and as I expected no answer.

Their music selections is from 2003 on Saturday night 4/19! !!music is old and not current! I asked twice for current music and got “Timber!”

Do NOT use your credit or debit card here. My friends and I ordered a drinks. I did not start a tab because I wasn’t planning on having more than 1 or 2 at the most. Drink was $11…I tipped $3. About an hour and a half later we went back to the bar for a 2nd drink…same price. My card was given to them twice. One of my friends said check your account because there is a $50 charge on mine. I looked at my account and there were 4 pending charges from The Architect! Two for $50 each and two for $35 each…a total of $170 in pending charges for 2 drinks that totaled less than $30. I did not start a tab so there shouldn’t have been any amount held. The bigger issue is nobody could explain to me why there were 4 charges made to my card. The manager or owner said they’ve been having that problem for a few weeks now. A few weeks!?? And you still haven’t figured out a way to NOT put multiple fraudulent pending charges on people’s cards!?? That is unacceptable! We went for open mic night on a Wednesday. If you ever decide to go BRING CASH and be sure to count your change!
