He’s fantastic the music is great definitely a mix of everything! He knows how to keep the vibes going even if it’s on a Wednesday afternoon and the drinks are great I couldn’t pick something to drink and he made me something and it was actually really good! Would definitely visit this bar again!

This is a fun party bar in Raleigh. The staff is friendly and the drinks were pretty good. If you are daring, you can spin the wheel to try one of their signature drinks. They also have pool tables, a cage you can dance in if you want, a dance pole attached to the bar top, and a spot where you can get on the bar to dance if you are brave enough! Fun place!

I rarely leave reviews but this place earned it for sure. We went earlier in the evening and had a great time! This place just has really good vibes, bartenders were really chill and friendly and even though it was our first time there, treated us as if we were long time besties. If youre looking for a fun time, this is the place for sure!I will note, it is very loud though with not a lot of indoor seating aside from the bar. Not the best place to have a conversation, but an awesome venue if youre looking to dance, sing along to music, and have a good ol time.

Wow! I have been I town for less than 5 weeks. Been to this place 4 times and spent at least $250. Not including tips. I went back to close my tab tonight and get my debit and was told I couldn’t use the rest room real quick to take a piss by the bouncers who have no clue what customer service is at all, and are unable to recognize the kind of clients that will help the business make money. Please note. The bar tenders have all been awesome!! But bouncers have zero business accumin! And are on some kind of power trip. Your loss. $$$$$

A friend brought me in here. I ordered the mozzarella sticks and they were really good. He also seemed to enjoy the fish bowls. Braxton and misty were the bartenders and were very friendly.

I absolutely love it here! The staff is incredible and the music is such a vibe! You can dance on the bar, the drinks are amazing, they even have a wheel you can spin for a random shot! Love love love it here and I’m gonna keep coming here often!

Be careful to look at your credit card statement to make sure they don’t add money to your charge. Called twice to clear up the extra charge and haven’t heard back from the owner, Suzanne. My receipt clearly shows a different amount than what they charged my account. Be careful is my advice! Suspect fraud!

This is one of the best dive bars in Raleigh . Every time you come in, the people and bartenders know your name and treat you like family. Great prices for the heart of dt Raleigh and a non judgey feel. Love it here !!!!

Visiting from philadelphia and came across this bar. I instantly loved the vibe and atmosphere, i was instantly greeted with great customer service and incredible drinks. They were affordable unlike other bars & each drink tasted amazing. 10/10 recommend this bar if your in the downtown raleigh area!

Man I gotta tell you.. Door man Cliff is the business!!! He watches everything but never exclude making everyone feel welcome and safe while doing his job picking out the trouble makers in wisdom. You gotta love Cliff!!!

We came from out of town midweek a little early but looks like a cool place and laid back. Bartender was friendly. They have pool tables, darts, and a wheel to spin for shots. I can see it popping on a weekend for sure.

The wings here are insane (in a good way) I would recommend just for the wings. The drinks are always fire too. The staff is amazing and always treat me right. He prices aren’t bad for a night out for drinking.

Really enjoyed this bar in a Saturday night after dinner. Great place to watch a game, play some pool or dance and have a great time. Bar tenders are really nice and attentive, too!

It was VERY loud. If they had ceiling speakers it probably be better. I had to put ear plugs in. The bartenders were very nice.

Went with some friends to try a new spot. Ordered a round of 5 JagerBombs fro my friends and myself, bill came back at $95. Then asked the other bartender on duty how much a jagerbomb was and he said only $10. So what did my other $45 go towards? Thought I would play it safe after and pay cash for my beer after, I ordered a beer and gave the bartender the money, she walked over to the cash register and got out my change then turned around and put my change directly into her tip jar, I was gonna tip anyway of course but she didn’t even give me an option, just took my money from me! Never going back to this skeevy place. Only positive is when I told the other bartender about what she had done he gave me some free beers. Still unacceptable.

If you want a REAL spot, come to this place. Monday night, industry crew. Free pool on mondays, awesomely sweet staff.Relatably trashy. Lets get debaucherous.

Coming from Charlotte and finding this place on google, was an amazing experience, misty the woman In charge made sure we had a great time and we were well taken care off , big shout out to her and her staff.

Awesome spot, one of the coolest spots in Raliegh, Cliff the bouncer is cooler than a mf and each time Ive visited the staff behind the bar has been extremely helpful and excellent as well! Despite the funny name this place has proven to be one of my FAV places in this cool 😎 city 😉

This place noticed I was having drinks and tried to charge me extra. After I paid him the change he gave me was 5$ less and then tried to ask for tip. These guys will hustle you into paying more money for your drinks and then act like you friends when it’s time to pay up. This is the worst customer service at a bar that o have ever had. I am garunteed not to returnCame back again years later to give it another shot. Same bartender tried to steal my money. I ordered drinks for everyone and paid cash. I got my change and then asked for the receipt. Only after did he realize he shorted me $4 and gave back my money. This bar will steal your money if you don’t pay attention to the prices and receipt. What a distrustful and disgusting company this is. They steal from their own customers.

Had fun here with my sister when we visited. Im giving five stars because one, the bartender was fabulous. And two, I have pretty bad heptophobia. So despite the name, the decor is actually really cute and mostly plushies or signs or artwork drawn by the patrons. It kept my fear at bay and let me chill with my sister and kick back some nice drinks.

Wow, I fully expected Jon Taffer to walk in the door. Dont know where to start, maybe with a woman so drunk she fell out of her chair onto her head, maybe no prices on any menu, or possibly requiring all the bathroom doors to remain open to prevent God knows whatever could take place in there. Could even be the broken chairs or paying 29 dollars for two beers and two setlzers. Only redeeming quality was a quick bartender, when he wasnt Giving pickle juice to said over served woman with a mid concussion.Edit: Oh wait there is more I forgot about. twerking on the bar is encouraged, and an unmarked police car sitting in the parking lol.

Not intending to stop here, we were intrigued by the individuals hanging around the entrance. My wife and I ended up stepping in to a bar full on onsies and danced amongst them. Cool vibe, but not sure there would be much going on had the onsie pub crawl not stopped through. Good electronic hip-hop spinning.

I came here on a Monday and it wasn’t really any cars in the parking lot. I’ve been before in the past and it was a lot of people. Took my girl here and we absolutely love this place! I didnt catch my bartenders name but he was phenomenal! He whipped me up a dreamsicle icey! Tasted incredible! I definitely need the recipe. We were treated like queens even at the door. This absolutely handsome man at the door checked our IDs and was such a sweetheart. Before leaving we danced on top of the bar and it was such a great experience over all! Will definitely be returning whenever I get a chance! I highly recommend. Bring cash with you so you can do pool tables and small arcade type games. Great mix of music too.

Straight up thieves who prey on the Trolley Bar. They up-charge you to outrageous prices for drinks and the next day your credit card gets charged double. They asked it we wanted doubles without saying the price, then charged us $50/drink in a plastic cup with dollar store club soda. I was mad signing the bill, then got home and my card was charged double.

I absolutely LOVE the monkey, the only dislike is the owner and how she looks down on people. I googled bars near me when I first moved to Raleigh and been coming here for 3 years. JB, Misty and Terence are the best bartenders in town and their drinks are always on point. There are 3 pool tables and a few other games, great spot to watch the game in peace and just overall chill atmosphere.

Came here for a night out after working 13 days as a general manager of my own establishment and i was taken care of by Jon B. He was bartending and cooking and I got the best service Ive gotten coming here over the past couple of years. He actually spoke to us and made sure to articulate when he was behind and as a manager I respected that but he got us our food and drinks in a timely fashion and really gsve good service... definitely coming back!

I was there on the 12/23/2023 and celebrating my birthday I was charged 78 $ for 2 Long Island ice tea and I will be disputing this Tuesday night 😡 bank statements don’t lie

Visited this place after work with a few friends. Its a great spot but the drinks are weak. I had two mixed drinks and a beer...and nuthin. And Im a social drinker and I shouldve been buzzing. I tried the punching bag game, put the money in and again nuthin. Played the video terminal , won 50 bucs, tried to withdraw it and nuthin. I wont be back.

The staff is great and super friendly, between the pool tables and dancing cage, you couldnt possibly get bored... drinks were on point, and if ur brave enough, theres a giant wheel of shots. Im really glad I found this place and if I ever come through Raleigh itll definitely be on my list of things to do. Most certainly an unforgettable experience.

The Ugly Monkey might be my favorite bar in Raleigh… and JB might be my favorite bartender ever! There are two pool tables and it isn’t expensive to play a game. Every time I’ve been, there’s been a DJ playing good music and PEOPLE ACTUALLY DANCE ON THE DANCE FLOOR! Also, so many different types of people come here, everyone is welcome, and I’ve always felt safe here. I love the monkey

Nothing less than impressed, glad to be able to come back since the pandemic began. I see nothing has changed, glad to go to an establishment where all are welcomed. No matter the color we all turned up together and you can’t find that much. Drinks good and cheap! No cover…more money to drink with 🍾🥰

We like this bar but my friend is non binary and they got kicked out of the bathroom (we were taking a facetime) without even asking if me and my other female friend were uncomfortable. we were the only ones in the bathroom too and then we felt super uncomfortable staying here. if you’re looking for a place that is inclusive this isn’t it

An okay night turned real bad real fast , don’t go here if you want to get a drink thrown at you by the bar tender the guy with the beard 🧔‍♂️ wouldn’t tell us his name either , horrible attitude was saying inappropriate things to my brothers girlfriend, he told him to stop and he got mad and started to trying to fight us , even threw his card at her, and the bouncer knew bartender was in the wrong and still took his side and kicked us out . We never did anything wrong other customers were upset about the situation as well , it was no wonder there was 15 people or less in there on a Friday night , mean while every other place is packed , so much more to the story but I should’ve started with the bartender was having drinks to begin with and seemed like alcohol wasn’t the only substance in his system . Anyways if you want your night ruined go here

My favorite bar in raleigh. Decent drink prices and great specials. Its always a different crowd here depending on the night, but usually pretty Lively and a diverse crowd. The DJ is pretty good and its a very laid-back atmosphere. The bartenders are friendly and attentive. On certain nights, it can be a rougher crowd but Ive been going here for nine years and its always been a good time.

This is a great place to hangout Security geeesh they are on point! I enjoy the bartenders, their friendly and you never have a long wait to order your food or drinks. If you go to this spot the best day to me is Tuesday between 9:30 and 12:30 if your not able to get there by 12:30 prepare yourself to wait in line. Music on Tuesday is mainly rap FYI ... Very fun place to just hangout no need for heels.. Great job Folks

I went to Ugly Monkey on Sunday the 7th of May 2023 and when I closed my tab, my receipt had a tip added and my signature was forged. I would have tipped the same or more but the fact that the bartenders signed for me turned my stomach. Look over your receipt just in case.

Local party (dive) bar that is essentially overly loud music and overpriced drinks in a concrete box. Good for an expensive drunk, not for conversation.

First time Experience was great and certain bartenders were also great! However tonight the DJ was wack. Played the same songs, only played trap music and didnt play any songs to dance to. Maybe it will be better next time.

The bartender was super cool and I liked the vibe. My thing was the security was being rude and doing too much. It’s a bar not a club. Won’t be back because I didn’t like them at all. Also don’t understand why you have to pay to get into a bar.

We made a trip to Raleigh from Charlotte on 05/05/2022 and decided to visit this place for drinks. Ended up having a great time meeting new people, enjoying great drinks, and the simple games like the punching machine that they had (current high score was set by me and the bar is see at 893) theres plenty to do besides hitting things with your fis, like playing pool, or going into the cage and dancing in there or have your significant other release their inner gogo dancer and have some fun there 😂We definitely plan on making this our first place that were visiting every time we visit Raleigh Im the future and if youre a Raleigh native or just visiting for a night or two, I suggest that you do the same

“If you aren’t buying a drink, you gotta leave” I was told 30 seconds after buying a vodka soda lime DOUBLE. When I asked why, bouncer just repeated that we had to go. I agreed because I figured it was closing time or something as it was 10:30, but became suspicious when nobody else exited after we did. Then he let 2 people in. This guy literally kicked us out to let others in, we were targeted even as paying customers, and we were only a couple hours into the night. If you go here, hide in the corner where the bouncer won’t notice you to kick you out.P.S.: my group consisted of my girlfriend, her brother (the DD), and his wife of whom is a teacher, and they have a 3 year old. Would never cause a single problem.Your money is better spent elsewhere.

Well, the ugly part is right (a few repairs needed, but it seemed clean enough). The combination of foosball, billiards, and my favorite video game might bring me back to check it out on a not-busy night. Theres a prominent stairway up to the bar top itself with Ladies Only painted on it, if that gives you any idea. Bartender seems very chill. Free parking from what I can tell.

If you love dive bars this is a 5 star place to go. Certainly enjoyed some drunken nights playing beer pong, just dont wear flip flops because they might stick to the floor. Cheap beer and lots of good music.

Horrible Experience with a rude bartender. He refused to serve me or my friends because he didnt like the way I engaged him after he ignored me for 15 minutes.Being naive, I had assumed he just did not see me. Im 52 in a loud crowded bar, so yelling and waving was obviously my only recourse. When I apologized for my apparent rudeness, he laughed and still refused to take my drink order. I asked to speak to his manager and he said he was the manager. Im quite sure that was a lie. This entire display left a sour taste in my mouth and I will not be returning. I will be discouraging friends from visiting as well.

I know absolutely nothing about this place and never in my life been here before, called multiple times to speak with someone and when they did pick up the worst customer service on the phone and the guy that picked up hung up in my face ! Great first impression for the business itself.

Fun and funky place. The night we were there one bartender was working very hard the other wasnt, so service was slow. And it wasnt even crowded.

I like the idea of this place but just to play the games if you dont have any cash you have to buy a beer just to get cashback. It also doesnt have a dartboard, and its really dark which really messes with my eyes. It also was dead empty when Michael came in not lively at all, but that might have been just the time.

Im only giving two stars because I enjoyed the food but people behind bar was not nice well not to me and my friend they ignored us keep going to others placing a order we were rush and they acted annoyed I feel they were racist music was okay not the best

Absolutely great place. Bar staff was wonderful. Great pool tables also.

Its a good bar with good music. Drink prices are fair and they dont dilute them like they do at alot of places. They got pool tables as well which is always a plus.

I would never choose this place if it was up to me but somehow I have ended up here several times. The prices for drinks are crazy high for what the bar gives you. Never been here when it was super busy. Pool tables and beer pong tables are nice but overall not my favorite place for a night out.

My first Time going here **All the details** . (On Friday Aug. 3rd// 11pm) It was raining out but me and my Entourage found great parking, right across the street from The Ugly Monkey. We parked and walked right across the street. They have outside setting to sit and conversate It was free for ladies, dudes 5/10$. Very big and interesting place. Kinda out dated or could use a new look. But beer pong as you(front of you w/ island right beside you.) walk in. The dj Booth and dance floor is on (right). Few high stools and pool table (to the left.) Walk on back the bar to the( right) seatsStools & tablea and smoking vending machine to you (left). **Positive: They have a random drinking wheel of Fortune you can spend if you cant choose a drink! Great drinks. (Recommend: liquid marijuana ♥️) go further back. Another pool table (left) tv. Sitting beach (front of you) and your right theres the Laboratory (Men on the right/ Womens straight ahead). Clean facility (floors and seating included) On bathroom was out of order and one didnt have tissue. Very clean and nice place to go and turn up. Lots to do/ look at. 2 Hoola hoops to have fun with and great music. Nice security. Didnt try any food. Definitely would recommend to ANYONE looking to have a nice/good/great/awesome night out. Another one of the weird membership only types of deals that seem to be popping up so establishments can skirt around whatever odd ABC rules the county imposes. Been here at night and early evening, its an easy walk in and throw a couple drinks back type of place. Probably wouldnt hang out long here. Seen many a drunken pole disaster so ladies beware.

I really liked how niche this place is. Its a typical bar with some fun games here and there but the whole ugly monkey theme makes it so much more fun! Plus those frozen margaritas are amazing!

Excellent mixture of people all shapes and sizes it represents Raleigh very well for inclusion and diversity!!! They know to party too. Dj sucks a bit but hey no one is perfect!!

The ugly monkey isnt the place to go if youre looking for a classy, upscale, fussy duck your duck experience. The monkey is where you go when you want to have FUN. The bartenders are friendly, the security dudes are hilarious, the drinks are cheap, and the people are awesome. If youre in the service industry I cant think of a bar where youll feel more at home.

Actual parking lot even though its downtown, which is nice. Bartenders were cool and friendly.

People were nice & accommodating; food was typical bar food as was the atmosphere. Would go again...

Bucket drinks, a cage to dance in, and a few games (billiards, a punching bag, etc) make this a great last (or second to last) stop of the night. So glad we added it to our trolley tour.

Always a good time. Pool tables and beer pong. Bar tender is a great guy. Theres a good space for dancing too if thats your thing :)

I have been considering going here for awhile, Ive had a few friends say theyve been and its decent.Well, yesterday I was picking up a friend off of morgan and the only place that he knew of off of there was The Ugly Monkey, so I told him Id meet him there.I parked, I was w/ my friend, Joel, and we were waiting for him. There was 1 other car in the entire parking lot, mind you.So probably 5 - 10 minutes after we were waiting, some guy came up and said I cant have you sitting in my parking lot, either come in or leave. I told him were waiting on someone but ok.. So my friend gets in the car, but as he is getting in says something smart like Oh yeah, cause its soooo busy on a sunday at 7pm, there are sooo many people here & were taking up this space that someone wants to park in etc. Well, the guy starts coming at him, and at my car, like you wanna say that to my face? like wtf? all he said was you guys were dead, we werent harming anything.So, were leaving and he walks up to my car, threatens my friend, and I said dude, were leaving, chill out.& My friend says Im just saying its so full! there are so many people!The guy goes yeah like your mom & my friend says I havent heard that since I fell off my dinosaur. & then the guy says why dont you get some jobs!, because were TOTAALLLYY unemployed, that makes sense.But Im just like that is a great way to run a freakin business. Like I said, I was planning on going there, but there is no way I ever would now. Especially if its run by immature douchebags.

Actually never made it inside so can not rate the best. They do havr their own parking and close to downtown. Seemed like a good spot to hit up on the weekend.

College dive bar and it shows. Most have served their time here when they had a fake ID and up to age 22 for slow learners. Skip this stop on the Trolley Pub tour and just drink on the trolley.

Real chill location, felt like somewhere locals go for a night out with friends. it has a bar, pool tables, a dance floor and candy eye employees. lol

Went early and it was just me and my friends. Still got good drinks and enjoyed the time we were there.

Don’t go here on Tuesday nights it gets super ghetto lol. I couldn’t figure out if I was in a 2000s ludacris video or a Ti music video from 2006. Then again I’m from the northeast perhaps after spending time in NYC I just find this place stupid.
