I love this place. Its my favorite sapphic space in the Twin Cities. The vibes are immaculate. The shows are always wonderful. The drinks, food and service are great. Getting there is easy. Its right on the green line light rail if you are using public transportation and the parking is good if you drive there.
Everyone here is so nice. From the workers to the guests. And the drinks are STRONG! 3 drinks in and we were wishing we wouldve had less 😂😂😂 The drinks are cheap to top it off. Patio is nice, love the gender neutral bathrooms. Thanks for a good first experience!
Love watching soccer here and the overlap of community. They have a nice patio which has a giant screen to watch games and is dog friendly too! I repeat dog friendly patio with big screen! Food is standard bar food which is just not my thing but always enjoy it here!
Ive seen other people here with the same issue; closing my tab and tipping 20% after last call makes sense, but to close my tab less than an hour after I arrive because youre going home makes less sense. Yes, you have a small sign behind your bar stating this policy, but why on Earth would you decide to not tell us as were ordering that youll need us to close out our tabs in the first place? It smacks of sketchy behavior if you wont give us a receipt and decide help yourself to a gratuity that perhaps you didnt deserve. Especially when it took 40 minutes for my food to be ready. Do better.
I went with a friend and played bingo it was amazing. Laid back crowd and very kind and respectful. Great food as well. We are All In This Awesome Life Test Together All Universal Family 🙏 The Bartender Nate Was Great
Stopped by here after a soccer game and the line was out the door, so be prepared for a long wait if you do the same. We were unaware that drink orders were only taken from one specific end of the bar, and we were met with noticeable irritation when we tried approaching from the other side, which was apparently reserved for regulars. It was disappointing to feel so unwelcome, especially since I had heard good things about the venue.
Great range of drinks! Had the CBD guava lemonade and it was so yummy. The outside beer garden has huge tvs to watch games and also games to play ! There was a good truck also and enjoyed a burrito !!! The staff here is so dang nice I can’t wait to go back. I’m new to the city and love connecting with queer people here even if it is just the staff lol. Also love that there is so so so much room outside which helps soothe my anxious post Covid self that doesn’t want spit and breath all over me ! Overall so appreciative this place exist !
I pass three other closer bars to come here, but I consider it my neighborhood bar. Love the staff and the wide variety of folks who come together here. The brand new patio is fantastic. The prices are quite reasonable, too. I kinda wish there was a larger variety of food available, but thats a minor quibble.
We love this place. Always welcoming, great entertainment, karaoke in the back bar is always fun. Strong drinks, friendly bartenders, great dancing and a diverse crowd.
This is an LGBT soccer bar, that has Eurovision up on the screen. A comfortable and laid back environment. They have a spaceous outdoor seating as an option. Great service and food.
Opened a tab and had a couple drinks with a friend for an hour. Came back to a different bartender who claimed I didnt have a tab open anymore because the previous bartender left and closed the tab with a 20% tip. Nobody told us about this at any time and this policy wasnt posted anywhere. I asked for a receipt and the current bartender said Sorry, I cant get one. Theres nothing I can do.I cant support any business with such shady policies like this. Im going to talk to a manager and update this review if i get any more info.
Im more a soccer and slow times queer due to my social bandwidth but still a lot of great stuff going in that Ill venture out to.ove Blackhart but especially way too early weekends at the bar with other soccer sickos. Get the mac and cheese bites.
My favorite soccer and everything else bar in Twin Cities. The staff, including owner, are just awesome and welcoming people to everyone. The regulars and patrons are super nice and supportive, and now with an awesome patio? Yes please. Honestly couldn’t ask for a better place to enjoy a beer, watch a soccer game, do karaoke, take in a drag show or just chill and have fun.
Great vibe! Does all the good things you want from a chill bar: good atmosphere, good beer selection, good limited food menu.
I go to bingo here almost every Friday and the vibes are always immaculate!!! Everyone is so nice and fun. Nate behind the bar is an absolute lovely little machine! He seriously goes above and beyond every single time.
It’s a local treasure. Check out the patio. Karaoke is top notch as are the shows.
Beer before a match? Yes please. Nice place that’s made for real people. Back bar is great. No line!
They had a spectacular burlesque show tonight. Super friendly to all types. 🏳️🌈 Place to smoke out front, karaoke in the back, and saw and did plenty of dancing. It was very busy and it took a bit to get my drink, but there was a jug of water available. 💦Edit: I went to an amazing show again, and again! They are killing it!! The bar serves a few of special non-alcoholic beverages. The guava lemonade is sweet and quite special!
Would give it a 5 star however there is very little vegan food
After all these years, I still enjoy stopping in for a drink or two. Friendly place. Bar service however, has never really seemed to be top priority. Conversation seems to be more important than actually serving the drinks
One of the great soccer bars in the US. Inclusive, divey vibes, with great craft beer on tap and a lot of soccer on TV.
Maybe dont come right after a United game. I tried to order a drink from the wrong part of the bar and some regulars were less than kind about it
As an old and tired queer mom, I don’t stop in nearly as often as I should. But every time I do I have a fantastic time. Plus the owner (Wes) is a super cool guy who clearly cares a ton about his local community.
Great place for lgbtq+ I am an ally and still love the community and have a great time, especially at drag shows that Jamie Monroe host!
Wonderful experience everytime I have been. A super inclusive and truly queer bar. As a trans person its hard to find spaces that are super accepting and not filled to the brim with straight cis people. The karaoke is always a blast and everyone is super supportive. Cant wait to keep coming back!
I havent visited since the 80s. We went this morning to watch the world cup. The game was spectacular and the service and atmosphere at this place is amazing. Although it was nearly a lifetime ago, my last visit there was spectacular. I recall standing at the urinal and Debbie Harry stepped up to the urinal next to me, lifted her skirt, and tinkled. That doesnt happen often. Cher came in next, but she used to stall.
Performing as a female impersonator there for 25 years. This is home for several of us. The patrons are always supportive, the staff makes you feel that you belong & if you dont have fun, you mustve decided not to, because it wasnt the people or environment at Black Hart that would make you feel that way
Was bar hopping with my husband last night and came here based on 1) the name - LOVE it, and 2) we actually found a parking spot. If the lot is full there is plenty of nearby street parking. We are brand new to the area and had no idea it was a gay bar, but I was thrilled! The vibes were so great, and the bartenders were amazing. The drinks here are very cheap, and I had an amazing time. I will definitely be back for their talent nights!
Most of the staff is great. Drinks are strong. The food menu is decent. Sometimes, theres a food truck on premise. The patrons are very friendly. The shows are great fun! The location is central in the TC area and convenient for public transit, or however you travel. It doesnt matter who you are or where you come from, youll be welcomed by staff and patrons. There is plenty to do; including pool, darts, and karaoke in the back room. Or just sit around and talk with the locals. They also have a new(as of Sept. 2023) outdoor patio that is huge and amazing.
Ashley deserves a raise this woman is so kind and looks out for customers. She is not afraid to stand up for women who feel uncomfortable in situations of harassment in a professional manner and she has incredible customer service. I would highly recommend seeing her specifically if she is working, because she completely made my experience so wonderful. I hope Black Hart recognizes how important employees like Ashley are, I will be returning specifically to see her again. I saw her at a different bar off of her shift as well and she was equally as wonderful, and she drew my friends and I into Black Hart for future visits. Thank you so much Ashley!
It was my absolute pleasure to be able to stop in and catch the most amazing nerdlesque show Ive ever experienced in my whole life! The amount of creativity and dedication to staying true in authenticity no matter what gender or orientation, the atmosphere was so incredibly inviting and inspiring. They have a wonderful calendar on their website and it just so happened the create your own adventure type of gal that I am was intrigued! It was $6 to get in and the cherry rhubarb cider was marvelous ($7 tall glass) everyone was so welcoming and kind. Great atmosphere, great inclusive location! Definitely would recommend for anyone! Appreciate the connection and response to my creative block!
Went here just visiting out of town. Didn’t realize it was bingo night. They sold us an unfinished bingo pack at so we didn’t even get to play until the end of the night. They wouldn’t give us the sheet we were missing at the end. Even though we spent $10 for less than 10 rounds of bingo. The bar tender was not very friendly and very walled off. All in all, this bar isn’t very visitor friendly. They seem to only like regulars . Definitely one of the more negative gay bar experiences I’ve had.
Love the smaller dancefloor and everyone is feeling it and happy. Nice that the DJ booth is elevated above the floor too. Ive only gone on first Saturdays for Jumpsuit Disco/Funk night and as a double bonus they sometimes have karaoke in the back room. Bartenders are quick and friendly. If theres a soccer game it can be busy, but in the best gay soccer bar kind of way. Right off the green line and a free parking lot ON University Ave. Real treat.
Very comfortable place. Gets very busy when there is a soccer game, but otherwise very cozy and nice. If you want to enjoy soccer, good place to do it on game days. If you dont, other days are calm and nice. Staff are very friendly and helpful.
We came here to see the Tiff Dynamite Variety Show. We very much enjoyed the show and we will come back again. Our only real negative was the amount of pot that was being used on site, started with the bartender who reeked of pot when he came to take our order. There were several patrons who were also displaying the use of pot. I know pot is probably going to be legalized soon but I dont want to smell it or be around people who are using it.
Awesome place. I never knew it existed until a friend was there for a burlesque show. Had karaoke in a whole other area. Loved the atmosphere!Having to get in a physical line for drinks rather than the bartenders moving up the bar is really annoying. I go out to be social, not stand in an actual line. Especially when Im sitting AT the bar. Whoever made that rule is lazy AF. I was told to get out of my seat at the bar and wait in a single file line that was causing a backup of people preventing flow through the bar. Who the ... 😮💨
Quintessential part of the MNUFC game day experience. Plan to start and end your day at Black Hart and you’ll find yourself in good company with other soccer fans!!Here’s a tip if it’s busy: there’s a second bar in the back that’s usually less busy than the main bar. You’ll get your drinks much quicker and the bartender back there will appreciate the opportunity to earn your tip. ;)
Black Hart is many different things -» it is a neighborhood bar with pool tables, televisions, fried food items and good / cheap drinks» it is a soccer bar where you can catch matches from a bunch of different leagues, frequently opening early for European matches on weekends» it is a pre-match gathering spot for Minnesota United Games, conveniently located within a short walk to the stadium and offers gameday specials» it is a queer bar with exceptional programming throughout the week and weekends, including incredibly fun drag shows.I like going to the black hart, the employees are nice, the patrons are nice. Definitely would recommend for folks looking for a fun spot to grab a drink.
Great bar! Great local community. Awesome drink prices. Fun and safe place to hang out and meet others in this community.
Formerly The Townhouse bar (one of the Twin Cities oldest gay bars) the Black Hart boasts frequent talented drag shows. The new owners have kept the bar gay-friendly while also making the space much more inviting for non-gay clientele. The drinks are inexpensive and strong, and there are weekly dart tournaments. At the back of the bar there are two pool tables and a separate room for special events.
Really nice local place and great after nearby football (soccer) games. Really excited about your proposed expansion into the lot (field) next door! That would be amazing! You definitely have my support!
The best, queerest bar in the twin cities. Black hart is a safe home for us.
Great place to watch some soccer! You can tell the new owners care for their customers and apparently have kept the events and legacy of the prior establishment while still making it welcoming for new patrons like myself. Even the 2 pool tables are in good condition (not common for most bars in the area).
I typically love this place. I went here on Friday for karaoke, only to be turned down because of an event that required proof of vaccination. I wish that the requirement were more public so I didn’t waste money on an uber to get there, only to be turned down rudely.
I only had drinks here and I thought they were excellent. Its a fun space and I want to go back.
Nothing special, just a local dive bar. LGBTQ friendly bar. It is however a great place to go to before and after Minnesota United soccer games. This is where all of the supporter groups meet before the games. The bar has an excluded area in the back where you can sing karaoke and there is a dance floor in the main bar area used for performances and entertainment. It can get very crowded and the prices are decent.
Love this place! First and foremost it is one of the best gay bars in the Twin Cities. One of my favorite places to catch a drag show. Also, with the new owner it is not just a gay bar but also a gay soccer bar. With Allianz Field the home of Minnesota United near by it is also the hub of Minnesota United soccer fan culture. If you are an away supporter or soccer fan traveling to the cities then this is a must stop location for you.
Loved it! Such a great game day vibe. Tons of local beers options. Standard bar fare. Also they require proof of vaccination to buy drinks and food. Luckily I had a photo of mine.
I ended up here on a whim after a soccer game. I admittedly don’t venture too far on University after dark, but I am SO glad I found this place. The drag show was so much fun, the drinks were good, and it was a friendly crowd. If I can get over my “University after dark” fear, I will gladly frequent this place!
My favorite Karaoke HostvHohn, and Tony D , one of the best Bartenders in the business . Huge Support for MNFC Loons ,and LGBTQ+ Community as a whole.
Picture the best possible combination of a gay+sports+dive bar. This spot is everything you could ask for - even a revered history. If youre a soccer enthusiast that dreams of being a regular at the kind of place that has great regulars, this is your spot.
I love the Black Hart! I have been there for MNUFC pre games as well as bar hopping during weekends. I love the welcoming energy, the tap options, and how much variety you can get from trivia to drag shows! They also check vax cards at the entrance which gives me peace of mind.
A nice LGBTQIA2S+ place that also supports the MN United soccer team when games are on or happening at the stadium!
Good place to grab a beer before a MN United game to get pumped up. Gets a bit busy but still a good spot. Their Internet connection they use to show some streaming games was a bit weak and kept dropping though. Decent beer selection.
Well going to the black hart was a disappointment. There was mostly straight people there including a family of four (a man, woman and two children). The bar claims that they dont allow minors, yet I saw minors in there. When I reached out to the bar on Facebook they claimed I was being bizarre and threatening. So I filed a complaint against them. Kids should not be in our bars. The current climate is hostile to LGBTs and the last thing we need is bars giving the impression that we are trying to indoctrinate their kids.
Great club! Burlesque shows Friday nights. Karaoke here is pretty good! Got a great area set up for it and the DJ is pretty awesome!
Very cool dive bar catering to a wide variety of clients. Go there after the loons play at Allianz field and grab a round or to one of their many drag show performances! All super fun and reasonably priced drinks
Loved this place! Kind folks, killer drinks, great fun, stellar entertainment, and always a soccer match on.Really enjoy the community vibes too. And also, the mural is fantastic. A+
My favorite place for drag!!! I like how everyone is so nice and the queens say hi to everyone. Thursday are the best night to do not too crowded and 2 dollar drinks.
Is it Tuesday? Thirsty? Wanna Sing? Come to Black Hart , DJ Tony behind the bar , Jon spinning your karaoke.. Cant get better than here.Good People,Good Drinks ,Good Vibes....
Cool vibe, and utterly fantastic drink prices!
The nudie newbies burlesque show is one of my favorite things to do on the weekends and this space feels so safe as a member of the LQBTQ+ community
LGBTQ+ friendly atmosphere still remains from the Townhouse days, and the burlesque scene is worth checking out here. Drink specials are great and its a good place to bring a group of folks for a night on the town.
Great bar and atmosphere. I came out there when it was called the Towne House 48 years ago, met my partner for life there, and enjoy visiting again when Im back in town. It was my major social outlet in my 20s.
Great hangout spot for LGBTQIA+ folx and allies. Free parking lot available but gets full quick.
The most friendly mix of queer/straight crowd in St. Paul. Bingo Friday night. Fair prices. Tons of specials every day of the week. New owners have keep a good vibe.
Extremely open and welcoming place, the official bar of Minnesota United. It seems where everyone goes before the games! Always great atmosphere before match
Great atmosphere! Went for the champions league final, will definitely be back to play pool!
Great beer selection and the staff was amazing. I was able to chat with the owner, Wes, and he was such a great guy. I’m visiting from D.C. I wish we had a place like this back home.
An excellent example of an historic dive bar redesign that maintains its LGBTQ heritage while heralding a new soccer theme, and balances both exceptionally well. It’s also the closest, most accessible bar in my neighborhood, so it gets my vote for late night watering hole.It has a fair (and growing) selection of beer and spirits, with a notable menu of staple bar food (including Heggies pizza, which is a requirement). And lastly, the Black Hart exhibits a fine rotation of weekly events, and holds a lot of promise in using the several rooms/space of the building in the future.
Pretty cool spot for entertainment! Great vibes all round, the Rapinoe mural is a sight to see!
Seems like arbitrary cover charges and they only take them in cash? Dont make your way over here without a few bills in your pocket.
Great queer bar with events. love the lowkey vibe on weeknights and raucous vibes on weekends
They changed the interior but not the feel I will be visiting again. Just wish they would add a non pork item to eat on the menu would have loved some corn dogs
This place was great! Bartender Jess was the best! Ill keep coming back!
Went on a date with really cute boy I met on kik and he took me here for drinks. I had really good time drinks where good met cool people especially when he took me outside to smoke he was holding me squeezing my butt a couple guys out there with us told my date here scored a beautiful date telling me they think Im cute and love my look if my date dont work out they wanted me :)
The Black Heart is unique in the world and should be experienced. Great cocktails, local beers, soccer and drag. Occasionally at the same time. Something for everyone!
A man who apparently is a bouncer there heard me say I felt as a Trans/Ace Queer person that it is no longer a Queer bar but a Queer Friendly bar and said Im a straight man and Im working next Tuesday TRY showing up then a I will SHOW you its a Queer bar! ......... What....?
Come in on Tuesdays and Tony the Bartender will fix you a drink while singing country hits of the 90s! Prices are good. Everyone is friendly as heck. Ill be back!
It’s a decent neighborhood LGBTQ bar. Very nice staff and people.
Stopped for a drink and they play trivia on Monday night and bingo on Wenusday night. Neighborhood bar, quiet, relaxed, comfortable. Clean.
This is the old Townhouse Bar. New owner but same staff and shows as before. Strong & cheap drinks plus great company makes for a great night at the new Black Heart of St. Paul.
A very welcoming atmosphere! Clean and friendly. A laid back establishment to get down with the get down lol. Love is love 💕
Great bartenders and drink specials. We enjoyed the drag show. The perfect dive bar that we were looking for after a long day.
Drinks are good and reasonably priced, though it can take a while when busy. Drag show is fun!
Great spot to pre/postgame for MNUFC, just wish theyd staff a few more bartenders on game day. The wait can get really long.
Diversity is a bonus!!! Kind staff great drinks and food.
Always my first stop on my way to a Loons match. I dont know anyone there or anyone that frequents there, but the staff is always friendly.
Great atmosphere and service! Welcoming, and a great place to catch a drag show, soccer match, trivia or karaoke! ❤️
Good karaoke spot with a nice tap selection. Taking a star away for dipping sauce related reasons (how about a little marinara for the cheese curds?)
A mix between a dive bar and a gay bar, in the best way for both. Good DJ, Decent drinks, Very fun Karaoke.
Really friendly staff and one of my favorite local djs will be there this Saturday playing disco and funk - DJ Nola!
I had no idea this place was here & Im familiar with the area. The shows were fun & well put together. I didnt feel uncomfortable at all there.
Great place for drinks, nice atmosphere. Cheap pool. Bartenders are great.
New management has put some money into updates and soccer-related stuff, but itll always retain its Town House charm.
Drag shows are a blast here. Love that they feature so many kings
Great place to go before Loons home games to meet new people or just get a pregame beverage! #MNUFC
Love the queer community!!! One of the best bars I have been to!
Stop here for a cold beverage before a soccer match or any other evening with friends for a nice comfortable place to just have fun and hang out. EVERYONE is welcome here 🏳️🌈
Friday night bingo was really nice. Fun and chill, and I got a bingo!!
Great staff, fun atmosphere, only Gay/Soccer bar in the Twin Cities!!!
Fun pre-game bar right outside of the stadium. Nice staff and great service
I come here on a monthly basis for a drag Show. Looks like a non descript hole in the wall bar, they have kept the drag aspect of the bar and it still feels like home. I will keep coming back.
Still a bit divey, but what a fun lgbtq+ AND soccer bar!!! Best bar in the direct vicinity of the stadium!
One of my favorite bars. Friendly staff and I love the remodel. Job well done
This is THE SPOT if you are into any or all of drag, soccer, dive bars, generally chill places with nice people, good food, and solid drinks.
Great soccer atmosphere, but could use more seating and a larger beer selection.
Kool place, laid back, every day, there is something for every one, I go at least once a week to play in pool games for cash,
Just went here to play pool. Walked in and we got on a table right away. Played 3 games for $1.50 each!
Karaoke so loud it rattles the building. Totally kills the experience if youre not there and drunk. Ear plugs were not enough.
Fun place, great service the few times I went.
Great place for Karaoke, Playing Billiards/Pool, and hanging out with great friends and people!
Bad vibes. The woman bartender was so rude. Older lady I asked for a beer and she took 10min to get it for me and it wasnt many people there
Went to an open mic comedy show and stayed for the drag show. This bar has a great vibe and has fantastic entertainment.
Fun, welcoming atmosphere. Cheap drinks. The band that played was amazing!
Went to it before a United game (SCARVES UP), so it was a good place to park and be.
Had a great time catching up with friends. Nice atmosphere and friendly staff.
Nice area to stop for a drink 🥃 I was feeling sad, I left with liquid courage 😉
Fun placeAlso make sure to try Sweet Lous Food Truck!
I am a little bit claustrophobic so I like club that’s a little more spread out without so many players and I’ll be able to get to see y’all soon as your open again
Great place to watch a Liverpool match or any soccer match. Wes is awesome
Great place to watch soccer. friendly staff. welcoming atmosphere.
Such a fun bar, two very different environments in the front and back. Will definitely be back.
I love this bar.. went during karaoke. Fun times
Absolutely loved this bar! Id love to see it again when covid restrictions let up a bit.
I blacked out here. I woke up to everything so that was a plus. I left my tab open they it was only a $5 surcharge. 10/10 will come back.
Great place for drag shows, karaoke, and soccer. Also has the staple Heggies pizza.
Staff is great. Mix of people.
Pretty chill place. ⚽ Projected on the wall, rotating beers on tap. Pool table, 🎯 and 🌈 flags
I love the people there. I always get good strong drinks.
Great staff, and fun atmosphere. Trivia nights on Monday are great fun.
Great drinks, huge video monitor, friendly people and atmosphere.
A gay soccer bar! What a wonderful combination!
Had a blast at the Drag Show!! #protectdragatallcosts
The Only Place to go for pre-game drinks! Great atmosphere.
Great room. Cool owner. Friendly bartender and SOCCER!
Great bar to watch soccer. Love the pizza and chicken tenders.
Went for an election party! great music and people
I really like the way they kept this bar simple and open to everyone.
I used enjoy this bar not as great as it originally was.
Went here to watch a USWNT match. Great bar!
Was there for a Red Hat meetup. Tried one of the in-house beers- pretty good
Friendly neighborhood crowd and very nice pool tables.
Love, love, love. Its always a blast to come in. Im very happy.
Neighborhood spot that has my heart ❤️
Definitely a place to go for a chill night no matter who you are.
Love seeing all our drag friends. Friendly bar tenders.
Love what theyre doing with the place. Ramping it up for the 1st season at Allianz!
5 dollar pounders before a United game. Sounds good
Amazing shows, staff and atmosphere!
Ive been sitting at the bar for 10 minutes and have not been acknowledged. They are not busy. Help is in back talking.
Friendly and welcoming to all people. Awesome place 5/5
Fun little bar located centrally off of University Ave in St Paul.
Good bartender, decent drinks, nice atmosphere.
Everyone was so friendly, even for me being the sober one! 🥰🏳️🌈
Drinks were a good size and price!
This is the very best place full of the very best people!
Fun burlesque show! Laid back atmosphere.
Awesome place for soccer and the LGBT community!
