I had the opportunity to experience their Sunday brunch and I was blown away! Chisme gets a 5 star rating for cleanliness, ambiance and food quality! It’s a welcoming environment with great music playing in the background to get you in a great mood. The staff was very friendly and welcoming. Our server Brittney H. was fast and knowledgeable. She made great recommendations on food and drinks. She kept the drinks coming and the water glasses filled at all times. Now to the good part... the food!!! It was all delicious. Being our first time there we tried a variety of things and the portions were well worth the price. Flavors filled the Señora Chicken Torta, the Chicken and Churros with Fried Jalapeño Chips were fried to perfection. The Eggs Benedict were exactly how you would imagine them and the winner was the French Toast that was shared among the 4 of us and it was plenty! Thick lightly sweetened slices covered with Krispies treats and their creme sauce! They also have Chicken on a Stick that is way better than fiesta! Lightly friend to a crisp perfection! The cheesecake con cajeta is a must try even when you feel stuffed! I will post some pics of the deliciousness that happens at Chisme! I definitely recommend this place to everyone.
An exceptional atmosphere combined with a wonderfully executed and concise menu. The service was just as good as the food, which was amazing! The drinks were delicious and everything we ordered was flawless. I honestly cant wait to go back. Try the elote, and the cauliflower! They were the stars of the night for us along with the carne asada taco which had a beautiful rich smoky flavor.
I gave this establishment a low rating because they upcharged my credit card for an extra tip. My card was upcharged $5 extra for tip without my permission & I had already tipped the young lady $5 at my time of purchase. I dont appreciate a prominent business stealing from me/ their patrons. Thats bad business. Although its a very nice environment.
Trendy spot to visit, after work, for an early night cap. My friend, Laura & myself, were there between the hours of 5:30 pm-8:00 pm, for the early birds! Best time! The music was very relaxing/calming. Bartender was cool & knew how to whip up a tasty whiskey lemonade! I had the Hawaiian Ceviche. The presentation, upon delivery from the back, top notch! Very impressed with the flavors & how well they blended together. Alyssa, our server, was pleasant as well. Great job welcoming your guests on your first night! Thank you!! I will be back!
Stopped in for our company Christmas party. We had it at this location last year also. Its always a good time when coming here. Theres an area to sit outside, inside there is awesome artwork on the walls, and the lighting is dim but not dim enough that you cant really see. I had the cilantro rice, green goddess cauliflower, chips & queso, and a couple of the meats. Everything tasted great. People were snacking off of my plate as they spoke to me. I guess thats ok. If I ever get time to go to a restaurant I would hit up Chisme.
Hip, Latin vibe in a chill place. Happy hour drinks every damn day from 5-7 with FREE chips and queso with salsa and those are great! The outside area is gorgeous for the warm Texas evenings where you can catch a lovely sunset. Inside is clean and modern with a homely touch, and even though the kitchen is very close by, you don’t even notice or mind. The bar area is beautiful, and there’s plenty of seating for everyone. Server Joe was great with the orders! This is a great place to bring work groups or a first date.
Went for an early Saturday brunch and arrived shortly after opening at 10am. Very nice inside with a simple but very clean layout. Since there were few other people there we got attentive service. Our meals were delicious, BUT the extra Tres Leches pancake we ordered for the table was OUTSTANDING. Give it a try.
Went for brunch. Fried chicken and churros were outstanding. The churros taste exactly like they came from the heart of Mexico. The chicken comes with a honey and dried chile sauce that is so good and works well with the chicken.Agua frescas come with your choice of liquor generously poured and they have a complete bar with Mezcal. Now for the bad news. The salsa was too watered down, weak, and most importantly not spicy. This is essential to good Mexican cuisine which is preventing an otherwise 5 star review. I hope the fix this soon, I will be back.
Came in on a Sunday for the brunch. The parking is good right behind the place. It was already getting packed as it was midday around 2ish and didnt have to wait long till we got our seats. We paid for the brunch which was $15 each and $7 for a child. The choice of food was pretty decent especially the French toast and chicken and waffles. The only bad part was that the waiter came in too long between our drinks and even had to go look for him. The worst part was that we didnt get to eat much of our food because that day and area was infested with honey bees and took over our meals so they definitely need some type of repellent/pest control. Too bad we didnt get a discount for the inconvenience. The music and place is overall nice to come to.
Food and mimosas were great. Sunday brunch on a gorgeous day but unfortunately was interrupted by very loud music from the DJ on the patio. We were really enjoying our company and our experience up until that point. I wouldnt have minded if it was more with an evening crowd, but 1pm on a Sunday, no thanks.
Although there’s a pandemic it’s a lovely place for listening to some music and enjoying their drinks and food. Very nice and spacious patio. Only gripe would be the limited selection of food. Regardless of this I would still give this place 5 stars.I also recommend getting “The Painkiller” probably the best frozen marg I’ve ever had
The food is fresh and with nice presentation. The types of sauces and flavors in the dishes show a unique touch to Mexican food. Cocktails and Margaritas are a must to try. Many drinks have there own house made mixes that also add a fresh touch to your happy hour drink or adult beverage. Can order dishes in small plates to larger dinner menu and brunch menus as well. Service was not overwhelming yet provided plenty of knowledge about the menu and drinks as needed and with a friendly personality. This outdoor patio on the corner is a nice place to kick back or enjoy the inside restaurants clean and slightly hip or trendy atmosphere. Many more items on the menu to try so Im sure we will be back again soon.
Went about 12:30pm on a Saturday, wasnt as busy as I heard it gets during brunch, very nice atmosphere I enjoyed it, it is very loud inside, but I dont mind that. I orderedoff the ala carte section. The food was very good, I also got the sangria and it was super good. Over all it is a bit pricey to me but worth it. Will be back.
Great outdoor patio for a sunshine day! The wait staff was super sweet and considerate. While not yet sourcing from local farms, Chef Monica (usually found at Southerleigh) was in the kitchen for a delicious brunch with homemade corn tortillas like childhood. Coffee was okay with free refills. Great place to spend a couple hours drinking, talking, laughing. The inside was beautiful too: floor to ceiling glass windows on one wall and pretty tile work everywhere.
I am updating this review in 2021.The restaurant used to be called Chisme it is now Midnight Swim I havent gone to this new restaurant. This review is.for Chisme. I wish they never closed. Ive been here a total of 3 visits and have enjoyed their delicious food every time. Their micheladas are simply delightful. I ordered their version of Chicken & Waffles pictured below it was good but my favorite is their Pozole Verde and their TexMex version of Eggs Benedict. Its a swanky place with cool decor. Make sure you visit them soon.
Met some friends here on a rainy Saturday afternoon with the plan to day drink our way down St. Marys.First off...this place is BEAUTIFUL!!Second...the service was IMLECCABLE!! We were taken care of immediately with drinks and food (right before the kitchen switched over) and the server was on top of ot!My wife and I shared the fried chicken torta and it was to damn die for!!! Juicy chicken, aoili was on point and the potatoes were perfect. Beware though...this thing is HUGE! My wife and I split it and it was more rhsn enough for us.Definitely will return. Also, just an FYI they do close from 4-5 to switch to dinner service so the kitchen does close for an hour. But whatevs...just drink till it opens again!!
Easily the loudest place with the worst crowd on The Strip. They have to be violating some sort of noise ordinance... The painfully obnoxious karaoke can be heard from blocks away
I used to frequent Midnight Swim because its usually where our whole group liked to go. But after this last experience there we will not be returning. We were celebrating my friends birthday and were hanging out outside. One of my friends wasnt feeling very good and needed to use the restroom. So he and another friend went to the bathroom. The staff was standing there monitoring the bathrooms and wouldnt even let them go inside. Instead they got escorted out the back of the building, even though the front entrance was way closer. He ended up vomiting outside and being fine. So when they tried to get back in, apparently they dont let anyone in after 1:30am (it was like 1:32am when they tried to come back inside), they werent allowed to come back in. Granted they both had brand new unfinished drinks sitting on the table right next to the entrance. Like I totally understand the 1:30am rule, but we didnt even willingly leave the club AND still had mostly full unfinished drinks sitting right at the table. We were forced, OUT THE BACK ?!?! Had they just been allowed to use the restroom everything would have been fine. It is absolutely absurd that the bartenders were comfortable enough to serve them alcohol, but the bathroom supervising staff thought they needed to be escorted out the back? Not only that but while we were sitting in the parking lot waiting for our friends to finish their drinks, there were at least 4 tow trucks, tag-teaming the cars in spots as soon as the clock hit 1:30am. They mustve been waiting for peoples parking times to expire and took away at least 7-10 cars while we were sitting there. We will not be returning because this experience was just crazy, other clubs on the same street are way better in my opinion.
❤️ all the lights!Super catchy spot on the strip.Outside/ InsideDefinitely try the Green Tea 🍵 Shot! You’ve been warned it gets packed but that’s not bad! Dance floor area is inside, but when I went in people were just standing on the dance floor. 🙄So you dance in your own area 🤷♀️. 😂
Drinks were good but was super crowded. Super nice environment, we went for my friends birthday and everyone had a really good time here.
I really try to leave positive reviews and often do so only when I have a particularly great experience. I read the mixed reviews about Chisme and decided to follow my family there anyway. In brief, the pros: parking was adequate, we were seated promptly, and the restaurant was clean. Aside from that, a very bland experience. There were two over-worked servers responsible for everything from taking orders to bussing the tables. The happy hour menu indicates $3 beer pints, but they were served in small plastic cups far from pint size (as an aside $10.50 for a small frozen margarita in an old fashioned glass is outrageous). The food took a very long time to arrive. I had the chicken fajitas, which, again, were very bland. Not bad, just bland.I will not go out of my way to visit this restaurant again.
I tired to take my little girl to Mariachi brunch because she loves Mariachi and we got there at 1 and they wouldnt seat us because they had a big party. Even though there were lots of empty tables and not many people other than the big party. And the host was not very nice about it.. had been wanting to go there for a while and was very disappointed we got turned away in a rude manner. There were 2 of us and a toddler. They could have accommodated us. Good thing Candlelight was able to accommodate us even though they were busy too. And our food was great and came our really fast.Update: the manage reached out to me and invited us back for brunch on them. The service was better and the food was good.
Food is top notch, such soft and savory steak. Drink selection although short is very enjoyable. During our visit we were largely ignored by their staff for some reason which led to us getting our food after a long wait, but Ill give them the benefit of the doubt. Definitely going back here another time! If youre looking for finely prepared Mexican food this is your stop!
Where do I start!!! I love the menu, not a lot of options but every single item is completely worth trying. Ive been here a couple times and every time I am left completely taken back. The food is made to perfection here literally, and it is all visually pleasing. The wine selection is delicious and the staff is amazing. When you ask about their menu each and every one of the staff members describes it with so much passion. That is always a good indicator that you are in the right place. This is also a very interesting place with perfect lighting and great atmosphere. If you havent tried this place yet, I highly recommend it! Hope you enjoy it as much as myself and my partner do!
I have been going to Chisme on and off since it opened and, even with its ups and downs, it is a good choice for North St. Mary’s. Price for drinks and food is a little bit above other options on the street but still not bad given the quality of the food. I find that their menu items are the best, especially their chicken. Once they had a special taco that was not great. Brunch is really good and I’ve enjoyed the couple times I’ve been.My only reservation about the place is sometimes the service can be iffy. To their credit it has gotten a lot better the last few times I’ve been in.
Came here for Sunday brunch and considering its relatively new it wasnt crowded which was nice. Only four other tables and a couple at the bar. Food was good, but everything else not so much. The live DJ was incredibly loud and could barely hear the other person at the table regardless of where we sat. At least the DJ was playing a good variety. Service was the biggest set back as they werent pleasant and were incredibly slow with getting orders in and out. Hopefully they work out the kinks because seems like it would be a great place for brunch, especially when the weathers nice.
Very cool place with a great atmosphere. Outside and inside seating. They have happy hour every day with $5 drinks and they serve chips and queso free. Didnt eat, but had an appetizer, it was really good. Music plays in the background that had me looking around for the band. Definitely going back there.
Great atmosphere to enjoy outdoors. We really enjoyed the staff, knowledgeable and friendly. Food was okay, I tried the tacos and chips and queso...not too bad. Drinks did have us ordering, they were that good. Chicken on a stick was okay, not too bad...but I’ll be alright not to order it again, I’ll wait for Fiesta. You must try this place out for yourself.
Amazingly nice staff! GREAT place for brunch. Food was great and very filling, I recommend the smoked barbacoa. And most definitely add mimosas! Inside and outdoor seating area. Dogs on leashes are welcomed and also kid friendly.
Came in during happy hour while it wasnt busy and enjoyed a low key spot at the bar. Service timeliness was a bit off due to recent personnel turnover, but felt it even pour by the quality of service while working with the bartender (Whitney) who went out of her way to make recommendations and customize requests (like helping me convert their white Sangria to a red or trying to find a good end of meal drink) unlike most bartenders. Food was excellent and order to table time was extremely short (2-4 minutes) and also helped make up for the times of absent service. The free house salsa and queso balanced each other out fairly well, tacos had great flavor, and the custard was delectable.Overall had a great experience and could easily see this as a good neighborhood experience and with returning to next time Im in town.
The food is worth four stars, but the servers always seem annoyed that you’re there. The vibe is too-cool, apathetic. It’s weird- the other people in the restaurant, like the ones bringing chips- are so friendly. The servers are always surly to the point that my husband and I joke about it. I wish we liked the service as much as the food.
Went for the first time for what I think was their opening brunch weekend. $15 a person breakfast buffet. It was super disorganized, half the food was out, and when we paid on the ipad it automatically took a 25% tip despite there being no actual table service. BUT the food we did have was very good! And Id love to try it again when things arent so hectic.
Tried it out was a bit disappointed, took awhile to be seated even though not overall busy once we sat down, I ordered the pork pozole it was mainly white hominy with a few bits of pork it lacked flavor used some hot sauce to give it some, their $4 dollar coffee cup taste like Folgers nothing amazing highly recommend to skip it and order something else. The place itself is unique, obviously catholic oriented full of religious artwork and statues all over the wall, they will put some religious candles in your table as well. Genuinely nothing to gossip about, but our waitress was adorable and nice props to her of her incredible customer service skills.
I really enjoyed the ambience here, the music and the bar. However, I do wish they had more beer selections - going by that short of a list is no longer OK especially at the strip where many other places do offer great selections. The food was good, but it needs a good edit to make it memorable and have patrons want more. For example, their barbacoa tacos have delicious meat and the corn tortilla was excellent, but the plate was missing some essentials like lime, pickled red onion and some spicy salsa. The roasted corn was tasty as well, although unexpected since it was more like roasted cream corn (I may have missed that on the description), but the portion was too large, and it needed some toasted bread or something to balance its texture more than the popcorn on top of it. Again, the keyword is to edit their food. I may try their food again if I see a change, otherwise I may stick to the cocktails and their yummy chips and salsa.
Drinks were a bit pricey but definitely delicious! The outside area was comfortable and spacious to where inside was completely packed. Not as packed as the two stall restroom with a line out the door though.
The food tasted great! A definite 4.5 stars, meaning Id definitely be back and bring everyone with! The fish tacos were a nice crispiness on a thin homemade tortilla with great flavors (reminded me of my favorite Thai Tom Yum soup!). The carne asada tacos werent as good but I wouldnt turn it down (they were comes medium rare though). There queso and homemade roasted salsa were good too, I preferred the salsa though. So what dropped the rating? The service which then made me question the price. Went in on a Sunday around 4pm and theres a lively crowd with a few tables open. Our server was nice but hard to flag down. I inquired about the happy hour menu (didnt know it started at 5pm) and she was like Oh, let me get you the menu and rung up our drinks @ happy hour rate and gave us free chips and queso (lots of broken pieces though)... Which I thought was awesome. The kitchen was slow and they apologized... But something about the service just didnt make me want to pay $15+ a plate. Dont get me wrong, the portions are big enough... I regretted finishing all 3 tacos (on top of michelada and chips)! The person that recommended this place to be told me to try again at happy hour and sit at the bar... I might be back...
Save yourself the time and skip dinner. Had been here once before for brunch and had a great experience. Not so last night. I made reservations (and noted that we were celebrating our anniversary) for last night and when we arrived we let them know we had reservations and were seated at the only long high top table in the place even though I’m in a dress and heels and there are several other open tables. Immediately after, they seat a 10 top at the same high top we are at! The host seemed to be oblivious and generally annoyed when seating us. But, again, why seat a couple on a romantic date, and the ONLY shared table in the restaurant when there are open two tops? Server was okay. Wasn’t knowledgeable of the menu at all. Appetizer was small and bland. We waited another 40 min for our entrees even though several other tables that came after us were already eating. When it was brought out, my food came a good five minutes before they brought my husbands plate. Both of our plates were lukewarm at best. Rice and beans were AWFUL. Serving them in San Antonio is just wrong. Absolutely no flavor. I had the tacos and only took a bite of the avocado taco. It was flavorless and cold. The brisket burnt ends taco wasn’t much either. Husband got the pork belly and said it was dry and bland. Neither ate more than half and decided to leave and eat elsewhere. $66 for a bad experience from start to finish. The only reason I gave it two stars was for the previous brunch. DON’T BOTHER.
Excellent place for Saturday/Sunday brunch. The crowd was nice, waitstaff was nice, but I think this place is starting to get really popular, so its started to get crowded. The food was really great. Only reason I gave it 4 stars right now is because the outside dining area/patio, although incredibly nice and fun, there are no umbrellas out there to protect against the sun. They def need some shade going on outside, because its about to get hot. My friends and I were out one morning here, and it was only like 82 degrees outside, but that sun was BEATING us down, big time.Put some large umbrellas up and you guys will be golden!
We went there first thinking it would have plates of food, but no. They werent busy and we waited for a table. When we were seated they gave us dirty paper menus. The food was expensive and I guess theyre trying to be like La Gloria selling food truck portions but the menu was small and no where did it say food truck portions served. The decor was creepy. Glass saint candles on every table and about 10 saint statues lined a wall. Felt like I was in church or my grandpas house. It was just too hipsterish for me. We left without ordering anything. Our server just brought us water and left. Didnt greet us or say theyd be back. So we left and had good food at tycoon flats.
This place finally filled in that void that was Teka Molina after more than a decade, and aesthetically it brings a lot of flavor and shine to the strip. The place looks great: a nice atmosphere and good looking interior and exterior. When it comes to flavor, that is exactly what the food lacks. I did not enjoy it. The beans and rice are boring. No spice or flavor to it whatsoever. The barbacoa was way too salty and looked like large pieces of fajita and not in a good way. Even the red salsa that accompanies the chips was WAY too spicy. Hopefully they put more effort into their food just as they did remodeling the place. I walked out of there really bummed and can only hope they make some serious improvements. The service was good but could have been better, especially for a Tuesday night.
I was really excited about trying this place for brunch. Unfortunately I left pretty disappointed. First of, it took over 10 mins just to get a server to finally get our drink order. I had the Benedict con Chisme, they were ok. Nothing especial. I expected more flavor or boldness, but was definitely lacking. My friend said she could have done better making the huevos rancheros herself (and I agree). After we were done with our meals it took what seemed like forever just to pay for our meals and drinks. Our server seemed to be all over the place since we kept having difficulty getting a hold of her. Overall our experience wasnt the greatest, and I doubt well ever be back.In my opinion, the only positive about this visit was the decor.
We were there for lunch on Saturday we had an good encounter sat outside in the patio didnt have to wait since in was a bit cool and everyone wanted to be inside that day. Food was delicious portioned to be more then enough. The patio is dog friendly staff was friendly.
First time going, Loved it.Went with the family for brunch. I really wish I could remember her name, but the lady who helped us was great, really to get the breakfast we each wanted and her service was top notch. The food was a good twist on old plates. Chickpea chorizo is dope crispy almost tatertot texture, machado plate with perfect seasoned beans and potatoes and our kid smashed his tres leches pancake. Will go again, great food and a price that made us say wow I thought it was gonna be a lot more.
Great vibe and drink prices are reasonable.Very responsible bartender (her fake name was Leaf) cut off a patron who had one too many. Place get 5 stars for the level of professionalism from Leaf.
The name and pictures are deceiving. However, the concept is kinda cool if your looking for loud music, bar/hang out kinda of scenery (and just turned 21). We came out to find Mexican food and ended up leaving. There is no swimming pool nor servers. But the couple of drinks from the bar were tasty. The cleanliness is questionable. No one cleans between customers, but they are wearing mask, go figure. We are a group of friends that would not recommend this place, nor ever return.
We called ahead for my wifes birthday to reserve tables for a party there for 17 people. The table was ready for us when we got there. The thing was we had reserved for a table outside and they sat us inside. Then we had bought a birthday cake and the first thing they told us was that there was a $15 cake fee. I was shocked, never had heard that and I would have thought they would had told me when I reserved the table. I explained that I had all the accessories. He told me its a policy. That upset it me. The the service was terrible. Very slow and the waiter would not explain the food and drink menu. One thing of the night that the food was good. Service very bad. Very upsetting.
Good music, really weak drinks, and very filthy tabletops. Why don’t the waiters clean the tables when they’re not hanging out at them bar with each other?!?The waiters will drop off a food order to the table, but won’t pick up any of the used paper plates, dirty napkin, and empty cups. I’m not kidding when I say littered. Some of the used cups and utensils were left by the previous party. I finally got up after a 1/2 hour and cleared the entire picnic table myself because it began to look like Oscar the Grouch was joining us.I will admit there was good music on but presentation is everything.
I can not wait to return here. For my birthday I came here thinking it was only a bar and was surprised that they served food as well. There was a pork belly and egg breakfast taco that was probably the best breakfast taco in all of San Antonio. Is it frowned upon to have 5 tacos in the middle of the day? O well.... loved it.
Very good service. Table of six! Great coffee and overall would recommend. The bacon is awful! Five ordered and could not eat. Bacon think, crumbles and greasy.Chimosas are interesting!
The food was good but the service was not. We were handed a happy hour menu and told that it was happy hour when we came in (and both the website and this menu said happy hour every day). But then our waitress said they werent doing it. That just seems shady to me, bordering on dishonesty and false advertising. Waitress generally rude. Drinks and food took a long time to come out, and my water was hardly ever refilled.
They have a so-so happy hour drink special. Their complimentary queso and salsa/chips is great but that does not make a restaurant. Their menu was about a half sheet and 3 street tacos for an average of $14 is an I dont think so!. Happy Hour.... maybe. Meal....I dont think so. Selection not good.
Chic and fun spot on St. Marys strip serving top notch Mexican dishes. I enjoyed their drinks, and they have about 10 taco options on the dinner menu. I got the Pollo Asada plate and it was bomb- highly recommend and could probably split with another person. The flour tortillas were delicious too! When we got there, it took 5 mins for someone to approach us and I wasnt a fan of the menu style (nor was I a huge fan of the taco choices, they seemed basic, but I would still enjoy them Im sure) so thats why Im giving it 4 stars. Definitely a great place to check out, good foodie spot with quality drinks, and you could celebrate your birthday or other festivity here as well! Enjoy.
It was great music and great venue. This should be a perfect score but the bartenders are horrible. Especially this short white girl. She didnt seem to enjoy her job but you dont need to express it so deeply. Great place, bad people. I wouldnt recommend.
When I first came to Chisme, I was not impressed. Tacos and drinks were OK, but rice and beans were bad. Ive been there three times since and every time the food has gotten better and better. Recommend trying at least once (maybe happy hour first)
The food was amazing, our server however (Lynns something) was not she came to our table all of four times the whole hour and a half we were there. Not only was she unattentive she was very pushy and rude. Do not let this stop you from going to this place though the food was amazing i mean I stuffed myself beyond stuffed. I did not want to stop eating. I will definitely eat here again. Ill just make sure I have a different server
Some of the food was not good(we had to send back a basic shrimp cocktail for watery cocktail sauce), the tacos are way too small for the cost. I would recommend you try it during happy hour so you can get an idea of the menu without the high prices for basic food and drinks.
Waitress Rorie was horrible. As long as you dont get her as your server, this place is fair. She forgot our order, and then had an attitude after politely reminding her. And wow, she slammed the drinks at the table. The drinks were great, and the other servers were polite. They even came up to our table asking if I was ok more than my own waitress, Rorie, did. And no it wasnt busy. Birthday dinner ruined!
They take a long time to bring out your food. The first time I went I wanted to sample several things on the menu, so I placed my order. The waiter responded by saying, wow thats a lot of food. Yes it is! I want to sample several items on your menu! Do you have a problem with that??
I took my out of town guests to Chisme during Happy Hour and everyone was happy with the food & drinks. I was pleasantly surprised with the Queso Flamado with barbacoa. It was good, better than mine! We ordered one of each item on their appetizers to share so when we ordered our plates from the menu, we were full. Only draw back, my Spanish rice is better. Thats my measurement with Mexican food. If I can cook it better than restaurants, why would I want to pay for food that isnt any better than mine. Everything else was excellent! Ill keep taking guests to Chisme and let them be the judge.
I loved Chisme and I dont understand why the owner totally changed concepts, especially since it didnt have to be one or the other. Couldve kept the restaurant and just had a focus on happy hour and snacks at the outside bar, and a DJ and bar change after an early dinner service.
This gets a 3 for the inside seating area felt cramped, a guest at the table next to us was close enough I could have nudged her with my elbow. It was also very loud inside. The food was good, I had the the spicy chicken torta and my wife had the horchata french toast.
It was a good place and nice ambiance. I’ve gone twice and both times it takes forever to get the food and to be addressed in between. The food is good however small selection and nothing really out there and unique as I feel the area should give.
Terrible service for group of seven. 2 people never got thier food. The rest of us were done eating and it was 1 hour and 15 mins later before it arrived. The waitress didnt put the order in with the other orders and then when they got the food cooked they took it to the wrong table who ate it and it had to be remade again. Kept getting told its coming it right now or we would have left. It wasnt busy but they had one waitress on a Saturday night. Then the didnt even give them the food for free. Only gave 15 percent discount and then charged gratuity of 20 percent. There was not one but two long hairs in the overpriced arugula salad that was in my mouth before I found them. Place is too loud to talk and the waitress had no idea what everyone had so the bill took 4 tries before she got them right. Too many good places to go waste your Saturday night with friends here. Absolutely horrible. Shame on the manager. You mess up like that you comp the food period. Was there July 20 2019
A bit loud but still able to have a conversation. Great food & drinks! Good service! Fun atmosphere! Book of Chisme is hilarious. Enjoy!
Dissatisfied. Just another overpriced Southtown style bar. Staff was decent so was queso, but every time we got chips for our nachos they only gave us a small bowl. Half the bowl was broken chip crumbs. It says a lot when you cant give a party enough chips, had to ask for chip refill several times. Sangria was cheap. Chismo drink was okay. Margarita was so/so.
Went into chisme a couple weeks back for the first time ever, went in there with high hopes and came out the happiest costumer! food was great drinks were great staff was great the manager on the floor nicholas was present and there to make sure we had the greatest experience. coming from a restaurant background it was exceptional! thank you chisme
I was there this past SatAnd they parking behind it . Is tight .I parked in the street next to parking lot and vehicles keptLeaving over the curve . Someone scraped my Cadi leaving and didn’t leave a note or info ‘I have called the number listed for Midnight swim and no one answers. I’ve sent direct messages from IG tick tock asking for a manager toCall me!! And notOne person has reached out . All I wantIs cameras to be pulled so I can take the next steps !!!
Drinks aren’t very good and are really pricey. Bartenders automatically tip themselves 25% on all drinks and in the rush to get out of line you typically don’t notice it. This wouldn’t be that big of a deal but they do this on every drink, and tipping 25% on a $5.50 can of Modelos isn’t exactly a fair deal.
Man the music on a Friday was Poppin, it started getting lit around 11pm. They have a taco guy an a outside area with booths to kick back and get sum fresh air also the vibe was awesome all in all I definitely want to come back sometime!!!
The salsas were flavorful and food was good. Nothing to write home about. My alcoholic beverage was good but I cant recall what it was. Service was good. Atmosphere was comfortable
Hit or miss in my experience. When its good, its really good, but if not its really disappointing. The cocktails are always a hit, I highly recommend them. Roasted corn was good, but very spicy. Barbacoa was almost good, but there was an off flavor that I couldnt quite place. Fish tacos were sadly bland. The jackfruit taco was surprisingly tasty, would get that again. Queso is great, guacamole is a little disappointing for SA. Overall, the atmosphere is fun - I would go (and recommend going) for drinks, cops, and queso during happy hour.
The hostess said 45 minutes, we waited an hour and 15 minutes. Waited 15 minutes for the bartender to acknowledge us and get a drink. She took my friends order, then ignored me and went on to someone else. When she gave my friend her drink she gave me the same thing. I told her I didnt order anything and she took my order. We finally got a table an hour later after the hostess kept telling us 5 more minutes, 5 more mimutes. We got drinks and an appetizer. Waited ANOTHER 20 minutes after the appetizer to get the server to come back for our actual food that we had waited TWO HOURS for. Worst idea ever to come here.
The drinks were simple but good variations on classics. The food was delicious, but it really didnt feel worth the price. The tables sag, but all the servers seem awesome!
I really enjoyed brunch from chisme. The tres leches pancake was awesome. Their barbacoa was really good as well.On a summers night the outside patio is nice and spacious for groups. Inside is also accommodating.Their michelada is pretty big and tasty.
Would we go back? No. We went for the Sunday brunch buffet. The server said, If something is gone/empty and you want it just let someone know. Weeeelll many items listed as part of the buffet ... the containers were empty. Fresh sliced strawberries on a flat plate with a serving spoon. That is just a really poor choice. Strawberries were all over the place because people were unable to take the strawberries without having half fall on to the table. Why didnt the staff see the mess and figure out why??? Because they NEVER did a recon of the buffet to see what needed to be replenished, let alone cleaned up. Im not interested in paying for a buffet meal, then having to chase down staff and ask for items that they already list as part of the cost ... and then wait for it. I mentioned the strawberry mess as well as no roasted potatoes to someone. When I went up to the buffet a 2nd time ... nothing changed. Now lets talk bees ... we were constantly swatting bees out of our plates and faces. Constantly. Apparently one took a deep drive into my coffee when I went to the buffet. Upon my return, I took a sip of my coffee and then quickly spewed coffee from my mouth all over the table as I could feel the bee in my mouth.NO ... WE WONT BEE🐝 BACK
Came in for brunch, got seated, and ignored. I sat down for 10 minutes and was still ignored by staff. The brunch appeared to be not as fabulous as MySa made it look/sound. I wouldnt go back to this place until they have made some improvements. I dont understand how anyone could rate this place higher than 2 stars.
Went at 6pm Sunday. Brunch all day menu and happy hour until 7! Awesome idea but not advertised well that its only brunch all day.Ordered drinks. Chismosa(supposedly amazing) and Agua Frescas. Chismosa is a frozen drink and the machine was frozen up NOT AVAILABLE. Ordered an average at best margarita. Agua fresca was over poured by two shots at least.Ordered food ... Fried chicken and churros by recommendation! Ran out of it. Waitress said dont know why we do brunch all day, were out of food by 4.Settled for Mexican hamburger torta and senor Chicken torta. My Mexican hamburger torta came out as if it was dunked in the ice cold Chismosa machine. It was overcooked AND COLD. One bite and I was done.Senor Chicken torta had NO flavor. The Mexican hamburger had flavor apart from being ICE COLD. The place was not busy at all, no excuse for cold food.Waitress took food away and off bill. She was too nice for the quality of the place.Avoid at all cost. Writing the review from a public toilet because I couldnt make it home. Stomach unsettled from their torta and one drink. Oh also, their restroom smelled as if it was a portapotty during 100 degree Fiesta events.
I was close to putting I love Chisme. I had a Chismosa drink which i highly recommend. Also ate the fried chicken with churros which was so delicious, but what brought me in was wanting to try the Tres Leches pancakes. I was very disappointed with those, very tasteless and bland. Hoping it was just a fluke. I will give it a shot again. Everything else was amazing.
Limited breakfast/brunch choices but you dont need too many when the food is this good. Hangover scramble...thumbs up. Jackfruit taco... thumbs up. Handmade tortillas are a must in SA and was pleased to see them here too!
Stopped here for dinner while in town and they had long wait times and extremely slow service. Drinks and appetizers were really good but I’d happily skip the dinner portion next time. Dinner was sub par and for the price they charge its just not worth it.
San Antonio as a city provides locals and visitors to experience Mexican food and all of its wonderful regional diversity. While Chisme offers items that are traditionally Tex-Mex and some items could be categorized as Mexican food, Chisme is more about the atmosphere and the potential to take cute botanical garden-looking photos with your friends at brunch than it is about the quality and flavors of the food. Opening a new-aged Mexican restaurant in San Antonio is a bold move since criticism or skepticism from locals who have been nourished by the hole-in-the-wall Mexican and Tex-Mex restaurants our parents ate at when they were kids, is highly likely. Chisme does however, try to cater to the heritage Tex-Mex, Mex food eaters like myself by incorporating dishes that were traditionally food we ate because we were broke, such as papas and chorizo. My first and second time here, chorizo (in two different dishes) was super salty and annoyed me that I was paying $11+ dollars for something I feel like I could have made at home. The ratio of champange and orange juice Chisme mimosas has will make you feel great. The chips and salsa are yummy and a when you are drinking with your friends, they disappear real quick. I think the purpose of Chisme is to drink the variety of alcoholic beverages offered and eat food that might be expensive and not as good as Abuelitas, but at least you didnt have to cook it. It is that guilty outing that makes you realize you can do better, youve probably had better, but you really just want to drink mimosas and take pics of you and your girls for the gram, and you know what? Thats okay.
Chisme is no longer. Its now a bar/club with no food except brunch. Walked in expecting our favorite happy hour spot with great food and drink specials and found a DJ, open floor, and no greet staff. Found a familiar face and our suspicions were confirmed: Chisme is gone, and now its another St. Marys bar. Sad day....Old review for memories sake: Happy hour is the best! $5 spirits, $3 drafts, and free chips and queso 5-7pm every day.
This place combines everything I love - great Texas flare Mexican cruda food, delicious drinks, and a great playlist. Add some of your favorite people and some chisme and it made for an amazing New Years Brunch! This particular day there was build your own tacos. The handmade corn tortillas were flavorful and soft - as they can only be when made from scratch. The green tomatillo roasted salsa wasnt spicy but had amazing flavor. I also tasted the churros and chicken, and to top it off the Horchata French toast. All very good. Now excuse me while I,go sleep this food off now.
Feels muggy when you first walk in and the hostess needs some friendliness lessons. The server was cool. The drinks were all on point, 2 bloody Marys, 1 draft modelo , and one regular horchata.. The 3 leches pancake was phenomenal.
I found hair in my food, but I did not have to pay for meal because of it. The service is not great though, took them 1 hour just to ask what we wanted. But when the food arrived it was amazing.
Happy Hour from 5-9pm is wow. Drinks are fun and tasty, but would get a little pricey if not for the extended HH. Very limited and overpriced food menu so Id recommend grabbing food before. But all in all a cool little spot with a fun vibe.
We wanted to try out this restaurant because we heard they had pancakes made with tres leches. Which were very good. What caught my attention about this restaurant is that the food they serve is not your everyday Mexican food very original.
Chisme was one of my favorite places in San Antonio, and I am heartbroken that it is now under new management/new owner as Midnight Swim. Chisme’s chill ambiance, perfect happy hour (uniquely with free chips and queso!! *gasp*), and delicious brunch menu were top-notch. Since changed to Midnight Swim, I have to say I strongly dislike this place now. I went a few months ago for happy hour, noted above as a Chisme special delight of mine, and was sorely disappointed by the cocktail menu, extraordinarily loud DJ making it impossible to have a conversation, and lack of chips and queso (not even for purchase)... Also, of note Chisme held a significant amount of sentimental value for me since this is where I had my first date with my boyfriend of now 2 years, at Chisme’s happy hour as suggested by myself (hehe). I was a die-hard fan of Chisme with even sentimental loyalty, but now I am sad to say that I won’t ever come back to this place. I know I’m not the only one that feels this way. Plz hear our pleas; bring back the best of Chisme!
Very good place to relax and have fun. Mens Restroom is with only one toilet and one urinal but for the most part clean. The employees were nice and friendly. For a Saturday night the crowd was good
I was homeless and h#e less on a Thursday night when I decided to take a drive to midnight swim to get a few drinks. I was attended by a young (muscular) man name Aramis. His service was A1 and he even let me spend the night in his house. Worth the drive & definitely will return back.
I was blocked by Chisme today on Instagram for a couple comments I made on one of their posts. I think the threat to those living in the path of Hurricane Harvey is real and the effects of this category 4 hurricane have already been deemed catastrophic. I couldnt keep scrolling through my IG feed knowing that some businesses are looking at this disaster to make profit. You can see exactly what I said in the images below. Some people wont have a home or business to go back to when this hurricane is over and for a young business and increasingly popular restaurant to post not one but two posts of their $7-All-Weekend-Hurricane alcoholic drink is insensitive, bad marketing, unacceptable, and entirely inappropriate. I even offered the suggestion to donate some of those proceeds to those who will be displaced from their homes (maybe even a disaster relief fund) and their response was to delete both my comments and block me. I have been to Chisme a few times before. Ive never said this before in my life but, I will no longer recommend this restaurant to anyone nor will I visit their establishment again. The hurricane (not the drink), is not something to celebrate or a reason to place drinks on special. Hundreds of thousands of people are at risk of losing everything they have and this restaurant thinks its okay to exploit them by selling discounted $7 alcoholic beverages OR having a Hurricane Harvey Watch Party -- NOT cool.
I just dont understand how their food can be so flavorless especially with their prices. Ive been there twice now and tried the shrimp tacos, chicken tacos, and even the pumpkin churros. Its hard to mess up shrimp but they do, and somehow they managed to create the blandest rice and beans to go with it. The churro is overwhelmingly spiced with pumpkin and its not even a churro, just a lump of bread. I would give 2 stars but the last time they messed up my tables order so 1 star it is.
I left my credit card open and when i closed out i had a $130 in charges that was on my card. This was at 6pm with no traffic. I was never personally asked to approve these charges. Never again will i come here and will let everyone know not to come here.
Would’ve loved to try this place (even had a reservation!), but didn’t get people to take our order after 10 minutes. And what’s this about giving all the white people in the restaurant glasses of water, but minorities like us getting plastic cups of water?? Hmmmmmm....just seems like another place that rich, gentrified peeps get to go to and ignore the surrounding neighborhood.
Great drinks and amazing brunch menu. Love the mariachi band on Sunday! The restaurant can get a bit loud but its a great ambiance for a fun night out.
I don’t know why they changed it. I loved chisme! It was the perfect place for brunch and gossip with your friends. It doesn’t have that ambiance anymore. I will change the rating if they change it back. You don’t have to reinvent the wheel.
I sat at the high top seating with 3 other groups and wait about 10 minutes for a waitress to appear. The waitress was great, nice, and courteous but then as I ordered my hendricks and tonic I watched as the bartender made the most watered down drink I have ever ordered. I waited patiently for it to come out, tasted it to make sure, and then asked a waiter/bus boy passing by if I could get my drink remade as it was a little weaker than expected. The waiter/bus boy very rudely responded by saying that the bartender never makes a mistake and all I could do was to order another drink. I dont normally complain but a little customer courtesy goes a long way. Waiters/bus boys name was Joe Anthony. Update: The waitress later came by and attempted to ratify the situation by explaining they dont pour 2 oz shots but rather 1.5 oz shots. I wasnt able to catch her name but she says she bartended as well. Give that girl a raise.
Delicious dinner and margaritas! We had the fried chicken (not your usual), chicken tacos, and pork cochinita pibil split between 4 of us. Oh, and queso to start. The menu may look somewhat limited at first but there is mucho sabor!
Amazing place! Im just in love with the whole North St. Marys area but this place has to be one of my favs. Delicious food, nice atmosphere and decent prices too. Coming back again when I have the chance.
Used to love coming here. Would order some drinks, the corn on the cob and 2 tacos. Now the queso is super watery and the new menu is over priced and does not have much on there.
Great brunch spot if you want to try something new! Highly recommend you go a little by 11 to avoid the wait. The place was super crowded when we left at noon and practically dead when we got there at 11!
Place is definitely not for 30 plus year old people. Probably would have loved it in my early 20s. Definitely a college bar. Drinks are extremely sweet.
Service sucks and the food is just ok. Interior design is amazing though. Do yourself a favor and check out the wash your hands sign in the bathroom. Id give 5 stars just for that sign if I could.
It was date night. The waiter talked to us like we were stupid. We had to ask for napkins and we never got silverware besides what came with the meal. Food is good but service made me not want to come back. It was a bummer cause I have been wanting to come here for about 6 months.
Awesome meeting place. Good food and great music. They had a great disc jockey name Cynthia. This girl knows how to set the right mood.
Still sitting here right now but have to rate this place ASAP. Amazing food. Great staff. Awesome drinks. We will definitely be back!
Chorizo and potato hash was sooooo good. Fried chicken and churros were outstanding!!! Service was good too. Here for business and so glad we discovered this little gem off the Riverwalk!
Great food and service. I have the chorizo with eggs plate. I am a huge fan of their homemade corn tortillas! Will be coming back soon
This was our second time trying the place. We thought we’d give it another shot since the last time we had horrible service. Turns out, they haven’t got their game together. This time we arrived and after 15 minutes without being acknowledged or welcomed, we decided to leave. The place wasn’t even busy. Definitely never coming back.
Food was fantastic! Had the cochinita pibil and it was enough for two people and so delicious! Even the chips and salsa were great! Service was friendly. Totally recommend this place!
Food was delicious and service was awesome. Excellent drinks and highly recommend. Great atmosphere. Will definitely come back again.
Is 2 hour wait the San Antonio code for we dont serve your kind here? Ive gotten that a lot this weekend. The most egregious example was at Chisme, where we saw several empty tables. Looks like they didnt count on a heavy brunch rush and were understaffed? By the way, this isnt a race thing, I think its related to how we were dressed - we were wearing the Silicon Valley uniform of software company hoodies and jeans. I guess people dress up more in Texas!
Had the Tres Leches pancakes with bacon and cajeta drizzle. The pancakes were very moist as tres leches should be, but they were missing some sweetness. Almost like they used too much evaporated or regular milk, over sweetened condensed. Would definitely go again, despite the pancakes not being entirely authentic tres leches.
There was a slight mess up with my order but that didnt ruin my brunch experience. If youre in the area definitely check this place out. You might want to dress up a little bit.
The food for brunch was delicous! The wait for our food was a little longer then we had hoped. Make sure you eat a snack before you come or order an app.
The food and drink were adequate. I gave them money for their service. I paid an amount of money that I thought was a fare wage for the work rendered. I would return to this establishment for the same agreement if necessary.
The chefs and cooks here are masters of their craft. Ive literally have dreams about the Ruben taco on their homemade flour tortilla. Im a michelada afficianado and this is hands down the best Ive ever had. I dont know what took me so long to step inside but Im floating in a food coma right now after that puerco pabil and Im already planning my next stop in. Best on the strip, get in there.
Terrible service, mediocre food and high priced. Not coming back, if I can ever get the waitress to close the check so I can leave. A table next to us just left after waiting two hours and never getting to eat. I feel like telling the rest of the tables in our section they should save themselves a disappointing 2 hours.
Ok, first off, the bloody Mary is SUPERB. Brunch items: très léchés pancakes excellent; huevsos rancheros, all about the tortillas; fried chicken and churros, meh; chisme eggs Benedict, better in concept than execution. Ill be back.
It wasnt busy for a friday, they closed their kitchen, but they really didnt replace it with much. I liked it better as Chisme. Really not sure why they rebranded, or dropped their kitchen.
Midnight Swim is a conceptual antithesis to what made Chisme great. Chisme was cool with Latin vibes, great food/drinks, and free chips and queso. There was nothing else like it on N St Mary’s. Now, of course, it is homogenized and has lost what made it special. New dance locales aren’t needed... in fact there are too many here. It would have been easy enough to add the “dance” scene under the guise of extended hours, and keep everything else the same. Instead, a great brunch and Happy Hour locale now lies in ruins. RIP Chisme.
Roman was awesome! They have great bartenders and quick service especially considering how busy it can get. Great vibe glad to have a new addition to the strip✌🏼
The Food is delicious, the drinks are on par, and the atmosphere is great! I highly recommend coming out with your friends, date, or even just treating yourself for being an amazing human being.
The drinks here were great! It was a full house but not too crowded. We loved the inside bar.
Good food and nice atmosphere. Definitely pricier than average Mexican food options, but worth it if it is the caliber of place youre looking for.
The cops literally escorted us out because we were speaking Spanish, and just because we were speaking Spanish and they didn’t understand us they decided to to kick us out. I tried to explain what we were said and they didn’t care they grabbed me by the arm and lead us out for no reason.
Very good atmosphere! Drinks are definitely worth the money since they definitely put there good amount of alcohol! Good price during happy hour!
This place was not worth the trip nor the money. Waitress was terrible, too long of a wait for food. Food served cold. Can beans and terrible tortillas, I would highly recommend you take your business on down the road.
This aint grandmas Mexican food. Upscale Mexican food and worth every penny. The chicharones, roasted corn and frozen margarita are a must.
Unique menu, great drinks, awesome food. The atmosphere is chill and the food is great. You have to experience this place to understand.
Horrible food ! Way over priced. Is this what non Mexican people think Mexican food taste like? 😂 never coming here again. The pancake of tres leches made me sick to my stomach!
Good food and nice staff :) I highly reccomend the chicken and churros as an awesome twist to chicken and waffles. Mariachis were pretty loud but they played fantastically!
They take forever to make the food, run out of mix for drinks. Food is average at best and overpriced for the portion given in the plate.
Great ambience. ...Patio perfect for the weather. Food was ok....creative inspiration but not quite the culinary treat I was hoping for.Its worth checking out though.
AMAZING place! Love their service no matter what time you go, always friendly, and puts their customers first! Definitely will be a spot Id hang out again!
10 stars.Food is excellent, drinks are even better. Great staff. This place is going to kill it for a long time to come.
We went here so often when living in SA. Best time is happy hour. Love the sangria necia, Margs, and chismosa. And dont get me started on the queso dip...
You cant beat the chips and queso, hand shaken margaritas, and barbacoa tacos. Great patio and atmosphere, this is a true new staple to San Antonio 10/10
Chisme was interesting. I liked the menu options for food, the beer selection should be expanded. The chicken on a stick is a must.
Love this place! Great food! Amazing staff! We go there at least once every week! Highly recommend!!!
No food anymore i went at 9pm and they did refer the localFood trucks.
Great spot to get a taco and a drink or two. The food was very good and the service as well. Good music, relaxing ambience.
Food was very well prepared, and drinks were top notch. Definitely a good brunch experience
Had a bad experience with the service... Food took forever. Dishes seem hit or miss. Weird acoustics inside. Could be so much more.
Great food, great service, and cool atmosphere. The fried chicken was 🔥. Somebodys grandma was back there cooking lol
Cool atmosphere and concept! Food was ok, a little salty for my taste. Drinks were ok. And I think the prices on food were a bit high.
I had a great time at this place sad to find out that there was like a fight in there a week later but it was really good when I was there the music was great and the drinks were great the staff was great nobody was tripping
Super cute place with a fun relaxing atmosphere. Their tres-leches pancake was amazing! Cant wait to go back
Love it here, but its hard to get parking! Thats only because its in a strip full of bars obviously, but still highly recommend!
Great vibe in the outdoor setting. Innovative and delicious dishes with extra care to make sure what I ordered was gluten free!
Great happy hour and who doesnt love free chops and queso! Service was a little slow though, but would still go back!
Chill atmosphere. Get there early if you can. Place gets a long line. Bar staff was super friendly even when they are slammed which we all know is not easy.
I got towed here even after I payed for my parking spot and still had to pay $300 to get my car out there parking lot is a scam
Great little spot with some powerful and flavorful drinks.. Horchata Mexican punch was delicious. Did not try the food, yet.
Cover charge was ridiculous for such a mediocre spot. You’re better off anywhere else on the strip that doesn’t charge cover.
Love their HH! Every food dish Ive had is delicious and the drinks have been amazing.
Staff had a smart a** attitude immediately was not helpful at allFood was pretty ghetto expected a lot better service and food based off other brunch places in SA
Excellent food at a fair price given the quality. Its still a little new, so it can be inconsistent in service, but definitely good.
Great happy hour, good food and drinks. Great DJ, he really had a great vibe. Definitely coming back!
