I came on NOLA night, and sat at the bar by myself. Shadow was an amazing bartender. The show was fantastic.Expect a refreshing, non-pretentious atmosphere with good vibes. I had the burger - wasn’t a fan. There’s a great selection of wine as well. If you enjoy drinking, expect to pay over $100 each person, not including tickets - good price if you ask me. Really great value. Great memories.
This place is a hidden gem! If you haven’t been, its a great date night or just a good night to hang out and enjoy some good food and music. The themes change, so its not a redundant show. We attended the Mardi Gras show and had a blast. The only reason I didnt give the service a full rating is because we had to wait an extremely long time for the food. Well definitely be back. The setting is small. If you have a large party (over 5), its not ideal, in my honest opinion. We had 6 people in our party, and since we didnt all book together, we were split up.
If you are in San Antonio, we highly recommend trying to catch a show here!!! We went to a show called “New Orleans Night” and WOW!! It was amazing! Every performer on the band was phenomenal. Also, the food/drinks were delicious and the service was great. Highly recommend this place to locals and visitors!
Had an absolutely amazing time last night. Jesse, our server, was exceptional and made the night even better. The food was great, the music was great but the service was next level. We cant wait to come back!
Jazz, TX is a fantastic spot! The staff welcomed me with a smile, making me feel right at home. Located in the basement of the Bottling Department at the historic Pearl Brewery, it offers an impressive range of jazz music, from modern and New Orleans styles to blues, big bands, Texas swing, salsa, and Latin jazz. Although I didnt try the food, theres a full kitchen featuring South Texas cuisine, cocktails, wine, and beer. I enjoyed some whiskey on the rocks while soaking in the atmosphere. There’s even dancing on some nights. Parking can be a bit tricky, even in the nearby paid lots, but it’s worth the effort for such an amazing experience. Highly recommend!
This was an excellent show from start to finish, very smooth. Venue is lovely with a fantastic vibe and ambience. Staff are super attentive and its very clean with a nice drinks selection and food, we ordered the cherry cobbler which was delicious. Benny was a superb host with amazing musical and vocal skills and everyone else in the band was first class. I would definitely come back and also recommend. Worth every penny
We were first timers at Jazz TX and are so glad we found it. Fantastic evening at a welcoming venue. The service was friendly, the food excellent and the music, provided by the Jazz Protagonists, was exceptional. One of our best evenings out for a while. Highly recommended. The only issue, and I didn’t want to lower the rating for it, was the loud man behind us talking throughout the first hour. I mentioned it to our waitress and they spoke to him and shut him up. It would be good if management could keep an ear out for idiots and quieten them down sooner.
My favorite date night spot in San Antonio! AMAZING hospitality and service and have enjoyed every show I’ve been to. Celeste was amazing in assisting us to reschedule our reservation after a surgery. The staff here is always so amazing. Hospitality is 10/10! Thank you Celeste!
It was a rousing night at Jazz, TX. Doc Watkins and his band were lively and energetic, and prepared a wide variety of selections across all genres, not jazz only. Booking the tickets online was effortless. Service from host to servers was top notch. Although completely sold out, food came out of the kitchen fairly quickly. The wait staff were enthusiastic and genuinely happy.Five stars for Jazz, TX, the place for a memorable evening.
When you walk in this place, it feels almost like you are transported to Chicago, New York or some other big city, high end jazz club. This place has such an elegant feel to it, somewhere that San Antonio has been long overdue for. Getting here is pretty simple, parking is cheap during the week (or free at certain spots) and the bar is located underneath the bottling department food hall. we came on a tuesday, and the place was sold out, they seem to sell out a few days in advanced. (tickets are a good price for what you get) All the seats are good in the house, and the sound is great where ever you are at. We came to see the Toro Flores Quintet for some classical and latin jazz. We came hungry so we decided to get food. To start, the caprese salad had some interesting, and very enjoyable additions to a pretty standard salad. the butternut squash and cranberry sauce was an excellent addition. the presentation was very clean too. For entrees, I got the mushroom pasta, which is a creamy, umami leaning vegetarian dish, with a piece of sourdough on the side. **Warning, all mushroom dishes have soy in them (i believe they are marinated in soy sauce). The dish was fantastic, such a deep, savory flavor, and the sourdough tasted so fresh. My partner got the garden salad with grilled chicken and it was huge ! she really enjoyed the salad as well. The waitress was very knowledgeable on the dishes, and was able to help me know about which one had soy or not (they are allergen friendly). So the food was great ! (not many people were eating to my surprise). As for the show itsself, WOW they blew us away ! such a wide variety of songs, and the group was just having so much fun up there. they were interactive, and very friendly with the crowd. they played some slow beautiful songs, upbeat songs that made me want to dance, and did a good amount of free styling, their chemistry was great. the show lasted a quarter under 2 hours and when it was over, the place emptied out. I was very impressed with this place overall. A great spot for a date, with family, friends or even alone ! great food, great music and they have a wide drink menu !
We had a great evening @ Jazz TX listening to the Aaron Prado Quartet.Cocktails & food were well crafted. We enjoyed a wedge salad and pasta ragu. The wedge had the right consistency of crunch expected with a wedge. Surprisingly, it possibly had a little too much dressing, which is rare for me to say. Id order it again, simply ask for a little less dressing on the base. The pasta ragu was fantastic. I enjoyed the slight spicy aspects and the flavors were well balanced and a hearty, yet delicate meal. From the bar: we started with a house old fashioned & a High Garden. Then I enjoyed a vieux carre, and finished with a Sonora Sour. All were well crafted and had a nice depth of complexity. We look forward to our next evening @ JTX
What a wonderful place to come for dinner and show! We saw a very entertaining band called Vanessa del Fierro and Mariachi las Coronelas, an all female (8) Mariachi band that rocked the house with classic and modern tunes! They did a number from David Bowie and it was such a great rendition! Make sure you book the show ahead online and choose any seats facing the stage for better viewing pleasure. The food was delicious. Heres what Id tried list from fav to least. Winter Caprese and The Wedge both were flavourful and refreshing. Brussels Sprouts, Truffles Fries, and last was the risotto... I wouldve rated the risotto higher, but it came out undercooked. Service was spot on. I would definitely recommend Jazz to all that are visiting the area.! 🤠❤️🙏
One of the best Nights we’ve ever had. My wife and I got a front row seat to see Steve Soares trio to celebrate her birthday. The staff was excellent and very accommodating. The cocktails were unique and flavorful, the food was just the same, and the band was fantastic.Overall I highly recommend this venue if you want one exciting night out in San Antonio! Just make sure to book ahead as seat fill up fast.
Great Jazz Club at The Pearl. Gorgeous, quaint club with good acoustics. We reserved seats at the bar top, but I would get a table next time. The service was excellent. The cocktails were different and delicious. We did not try the food, but they have a good selection to choose from. The entertainment was phenomenal. I cant wait to go back.
Youll have a great time here! Salsa night was electric. The band played really well. Theres a small dance floor if you feel like dancing. All staff working there were very attentive as well.
I love coming here ! Every show does not disappoint. I’ve been to Mardi Gras night, Disney night, Christmas night and they were all so very good! These musicians are truly into their craft and the MC is always entertaining.Food: better than average (however I do not recommend the Brussel sprouts, they were greasy and burnt)Service: staff is always very friendlyAtmosphere: perfect: dark, yet whimsical.
Didnt have dinner the night we went. The entertainment gave me goosebumps. Thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. Mixed drinks were top notch. Servers seemed stretched a bit but they were enthusiastic nonetheless.
Buyer Beware!! I was given a Jazz Texas gift certificate. It is clearly legitimate (containing the Logo etc with no expiration date). First, I was asked for the email address of the gift giver. When I produced this, I was told they could not honor it because they couldnt find it in the system. They admitted it was legitimate but would not honor it. Worst of all , the Manager made the server be the bearer of the news probably because he was too afraid to talk to us. I wonder whether he gets bonuses for all the GCs he denies?
Jazz TX is a classy dinning experience with the accompaniment of talented musicians for your listening pleasure. The food is scrumptious and very well displayed on the plate.I recommend the wedge salad and the mushroom appetizer. The steak is wonderful and apparently the street tacos are too.The band for salsa night is always a joy to listen and dance to.Here are a couple of critiques for this fine restaurant to make the experience even more pleasing:1. I recommend waiting until all guests leave the premise before stacking chairs. When I was there, as soon as the band finished, the staff started hustling to clean. We still had a few items to finish on our table. It was an eyesore to see chairs stacked on tables especially since there were still at least 15-20 patrons in the room.2. Please add more items to the food menu or change the menu from time to time. We have found ourselves ordering the same dishes each time.Overall this please is certainly a gem in our great city of San Antonio.Update!!! 3.15.22 *******The menu has new items!!!! Try the Brussels Sprouts!! YummmmmAlso, I have not seen the staff stack chairs anymore! Awesome ❣️
A Jazz club in the heart of Texas…. The band Johnny and wiseguys was excellent … they were soooo good!! And Johnny the lead singer and the trumpet player was also so funny and entertaining. ….we didn’t eat there because we had dinner before in Allora … the cocktails were good … mine with tequila was average … but i give the star for the music and the ambiance … it is really a place to visit!
Love this place. Great live jazz, and what an ambiance. If you like jazz, you will love this place. Unique drinks and twists on dishes you wouldnt expect, but in a good way. It feels like you are going into a speak easy as you walk down some stairs in the Pearl area of San Antonio, TX. You just dont need a password to get in..... but a reservation helps! 😉
The entire time the Walt Disney tribute night was going on, there was a very young couple practically laying on each other. At no point were they at their table. They scooted their chairs back so far. They were blocking the walkway for others. I totally understand PDA. Its great seeing others in Love, but she was literally lying on top of this guy for the entire duration of the Disney movie song concert. I tried blocking them from my view, but she continued to try to get inside of him, I guess that was her goal. The musicians were phenomenal. Definitely see them again, just hoping those certain persons are not there again.Other than all that jazz, the food was Great fresh, the service was on point. Definitely recommend going.
I’ve always walked past Jazz TX when visiting the Pearl and boy have I been missing out! Enjoyed the Mardi Gras performance for my first show here and it was great. Interactive and impressive! Great job!
What a great place to spend your Friday night, especially after a long week of working. The thing I just couldn’t get past was the non al dente noodles & burnt bread that came with it. The Pasta Ragu was good, but it could’ve been better. Would I come back here for the food? Possibly not, but the drinks are good, the atmosphere 10 out of 10. The food maybe a 4/10. For the price, not worth it. I recommend eating before coming here. My plate is as cleared out of desperation.
(UPDATE ON 11/01/2022)4th time visiting here and the service was the least satisfied. I ordered a burger and it was too salty. I drank water because I had to drive and more than twice my cup was completely empty and nobody cared. Staff were too busy to look at their phone or talk to each other. I was the only customer at the bar tonight and there were not that many customers tonight. The music was great. The Daniel Dufour Quintet & Marcos Valera did a great job. I was very pleased as always with music but not with the service tonight.=======================(UPDATE ON 10/27/2022)This was my third time visiting Jazz, TX and tonights show was my most favorite one so far. It was A tribute to the music of Dave Brubeck by The Jazz Protagonists. They changed the drink menu. I tried hibiscus sprit and wasnt big fan of it. I didnt have food so dont know if they changed also. Service was so so tonight but because of the great show, I will leave 5 stars.###########I went to see The Toro Flores Quintet yesterday (10/18/2022) and it was great. I went alone so I had to sit at the bar which wasnt bad. It was $15 but including tax and service fee made it close to $20.I tried their brisket mini tacos and it was good and price was reasonable. Since I had to drive I didnt order any drinks but staff at the bar were filling up my water cup so many times. I appreciate their excellent service. (Made my star goes up to 5 from 4!)The performance was quite unique and I ended up buying one of 3 CDs from The Toro Flores Quintet and I love it!######################################I was here in May 2022. The Adrian Ruiz Quintet played that night. Most of players are professors in various colleges in Texas. I didnt record lots of plays of them this time. Drinks were great. Hope they put less ice though. took 1 star out for too much ice in my second drink.I believe that tickets were less than $25 per each person.
Secluded and intimate, this is a great place to experience live jazz. The service was attentive and very helpful. Cocktails were delicious, but not overpowering. The food is top notch. Salmon on risotto last time. I tried the turkey breast previously.
My first time to Jazz TX.The amazing atmosphere, good acoustics, beautiful ambience lighting, savory food, unique drink, fantastic services, all the best for a weekend night. The band is way much better than the a few jazz clubs i went to in New Orleans! The surprise, at 12:30 am one of their servers took the stage and sang a few songs! Talking about talent! She should’ve gone to American Got Talent show.
Great staff, delicious food and cocktails, and the jazz was simply astounding. We had a wonderful time and can’t wait to be back!
Seriously, 5 stars is not enough! Had a Tully fabulous night! I ordered a vieux carre that was made perfectly! We also had a very nice bottle of barolo! And as far as the show (and it was a good old time band leader show with Johnny P and the Wiseguys) the venue is intimate with not a bad seat in the house. I will say this; dont come hungry. Food portions are small; my wifes flatbread was 2 slices. It was good! Just tiny. My burger (pictured) was also small with plenty of thick fries. The desert looked like ample slices of pie from what I saw; didnt have any myself. But - the reason to come is the music. So great to hear a tight, professional band playing some of the classics! And! For it to be a full house!! They say buying tickets ahead is only recommended you could show up st show time and maybe get tickets. I would call that highly unlikely based on last nights full capacity and enthusiastic crowd! Our server was Ashley; who was great! Looking around, all the servers were happy to be there and engaged with theyre customers.Fantastic date night joint! Just go. If youre looking for a well made craft cocktail, go. If youre looking for a great music venue, go. Mashes me so happy to know theres a place like Jazz,TX!! I will be frequenting here often!Oh, last thing, Uber pick ups in SATX can be suh-low! 5 minute wait in the Pearl, which was a very nice cherry on top to end the evening. :)
It was so refreshing to have finally gone out after a long hiatus and got some live jazz bibrating thru my ear drums. This venue gave me NYC VIBES: the place is simple but cozy and tasteful. The food and service were top notch, and while I was not all in on the cover charge price tag, I will surely go back. The place, overall, is great respite from the typical night life found in San Antonio.
I visited Jazz, TX once about six years ago and really enjoyed my experience as a patron. About a year later, having been performing regularly as a jazz vocalist throughout Central Texas (including SA), I tried to contact Jazz, TX owner, Doc Watkins about potential bookings. As a generality, no one answers the phones at this establishment, let alone returns calls or emails. Ive even tried to contact the owner personally through social media and I have been continually ignored regarding new bookings. Ive written a few times over the past couple of years. I have even seen where my messages were read, with no reply. It was obvious to me early on that this place is cliquey and caters primarily to elite groups. But what bothers me most is that I could not ever garner one decent response from the staff or owner - even if it was a rejection.
The atmosphere was amazing, the music was great and the food was delicious. We saw The Frederick Sanders Quartet featuring Shelly Carol. AMAZING. Will be returning.
We came from AZ to celebrate my mother in laws birthday and this place was a great way to celebrate! music was awesome it was all New Orleans style the host really got the crowd involved which made it so much fun and food was Amazing. I dont like Brussel sprouts but theres were to die for and there pecan pie was also Amazing! Definitely recommend this place.
Saw Johnny P and the Wise Guys. Very entertaining! For food I tried the tres mini brisket tacos which I thoroughly enjoyed. Will be returning often! Be sure to make reservations. Youll receive an email the day before reminding you. Just show up at your scheduled seating time and give them your name.
This place is a true underground jazz club, as in you really must go downstairs to find it. Once inside past the dark curtains, you enter a world of music, cuisine, alcohol, and entertainment. I throughly enjoyed my house pasta with shrimp and the attentive staff made the dinner so enjoyable. I had the pleasure of listening to the Dirty River Dixie Band, and the atmosphere was just dark enough to be cozy. I’ll definitely return for more of this.
Great live music, unique cocktails, savory food, and promote friendly service. Full Bloom drink made with infused gin, omg amazing! And the tender quail with side salad offered under small plates was big on flavor. I went to the 5pm Saturday show just to check it out. Im glad I did and will definitely be back.
Same night update:4 stars now..they made it right. Granted someone left and a table came available so only modest kudos but it did salvage the evening. Music was amazing despite the initial view. Just need to tweak the experience (by getting rid of the table behind the pillar).Initial 2 stars:Paid for reservations (walk in welcome according to the sign) and admittedly arrived a few minutes before the 930 start and this is the view I had from my seat. In my opinion if you pay in advance you should absolutely be seated in a better seat since youve literally paid in advance to let them know your coming. And before you ask why didnt I just move to see clearly the second pic is to show how I would then be in the way of wait staff.
Loved the energy of the NOLA Jazz music! Lots of fun at the 930pm show. Sounded just like New Orleans. Only thing missing was the washboard to play some Zydeco!!! Loved Brandon’s playful intros. We will be back!!!! Thanks to all band members for a great ending to my birthday!
Nice place to watch a jazz show with your honey. We enjoy it here. The food is good too.
This was the last event, scheduled on my solo vacation, I’m glad I saved the best for last. The staff was super friendly and attentive, the cocktails were superb, very few vegan options, ok just one and I enjoyed my arugula salad 😁The music was everything Doc Watkins and the crew gave a heck of a performance (I’m sorry I can’t remember the name of all the musicians) If you’re from the Charlie Brown Christmas special era you will appreciate it this, if not welcome. Thanks JazzTx for a memorable and joyful last night in this Beautiful City.
If you like Jazz you will like Jazz,Tx. This club is located underground which adds to the speak easy ambiance. Always make reservations even during the free seating happy hour Monday thru Thursday 5:30 to 7:30. Otherwise you might not get in. They only allow people in to fill seats available no just hanging out, even at the bar. We had dinner and drinks. Loved it, we will be back!
Fantastic place to enjoy outstanding jazz. The ambiance is perfect. The wait staff were kind and attentive. So worth going on a night Doc Watkins and his orchestra are playing! Doc is funny and keeps the showing rolling, but all musicians are so very talented. Truly enjoyed it. If I lived in San Antonio Id be a regular.
This place is like a little secret, not a lot of advertisements. Was great a live jazz show. A nice place to get expensive drinks lol, but your paying for the show Id say, so its worth it. A must, you need to go once, and then again and again, but not to much because space is limited and I want a table!
Went here for our 23 anniversary. The experience was great from start to end. Wait staff was excellent and very attentive. The food was amazing and the drinks were fabulous. The live music was so much fun and sounded great. My only complaint is that I wish it had a dress code. A classy place like this shouldnt have people in shorts and flip flops.
The Christmas show with Doc and the orchestra have become a holiday tradition for me and the Mrs. The sound of the band in this intimate space downstairs is just incredible. I’m around professional musicians every day and these guys are just taking it to a whole new level. The menu is delicious. I had the 3 small brisket tacos, and my wife had a vegetable enchilada that to my surprise as a meat lover had a really great tex mex taste. The bar staff knows how to serve great old fashioned’s and the waitresses are always coming by to take you order. We always have the best time when we come here. I feel it’s well worth the ticket! We even picked up a record for the hiFi!
Best experience ever!! The music was amazing, staff and food was a delight!! Planning my next visit asap!!
I had a really good time here. I reserve online for the 8:30pm show on a Thursday night. I arrived early but they were able to seat us. The table was a great location. Drinks were ok, a bit pricey but they were good. Had the queso and chips, it was pretty good. Music was on point. They did not disappoint. Overall great experience.
Love love this place! I have gone with friends or date nights with partner. The food, atmosphere, and music is amazing!
This an intimate place to eat, drink, and listen to live jazz. A total of about 50 table seats and some seating at the bar. Lighting is always dim in the evenings which adds to the ambiance, just dont expect bright light fixtures. Definitely not uncommon for a weekend night to become standing room only so be sure to book a reservation if you plan on coming on a busy day. The food is all simple but well executed. Cocktails are tasty with plenty of alcohol. Food is somewhat pricey but considering the local area and the live music its a good value and tastes great. Doc Watkins plays here often and as the owner of the place its great to see the passion he has for the music and his establishment to enjoy it to its fullest extent. Highly recommended for a date night or just to enjoy some jazz.
Fantastic atmosphere and intriguing ambiance being in a basement! Loved the live jazz show and will definitely be back for more! While quite delicious, admittedly I feel the food is a little overpriced... Particularly the burger not coming with fries and the a la carte fries being $7 I expected a much larger serving. The peach cobbler and pecan pie are amazing finishes to your night, perfect to share too!All in all, it wasnt enough to deter me from returning but I will definitely try something else next time.
Venue is excellent. Food is great but a little pricey. Choose your music wisely and you wont go wrong.
Reservations are required for the shows. If you do not make reservations, you MAY be able to get in, if theres room at the bar but you wont be able to see anything.
Ive been here twice and each experience was absolutely phenomenal.• the ambiance is speak-easy-ish. Dimly lit, candlelight, cozy yet bougie feeling at the same time.• the drinks are delicious. I havent had one of their signature cocktails that I havent liked yet. I suggest the Siesta.• good service! The waitresses were professional, kind, and fast• I loved the couples dancing! What a special experience.• the music is always a 10/10. Its so heartfelt and moving. The raw talent alone is exquisite and the connection between the players can be felt every time.I genuinely cant wait to bring everyone I know here. The Christmas Peanuts (Charlie Brown) show was so sweet and relaxing. This big band show today was upbeat and dance-worthy. I love everything about Jazz, TX
This place is smoking crack charging $50/ticket plus crazy prices for food and beverage. Do yourself a favor and drive the hour and a half to the Elephant Room in Austin and catch a free jazz show with some reasonable drink prices then grab some food from any of the cheap food trucks. You’ll still spend less money and enjoy a much better venue and show. This place is wild.
OMG I have been talking about this place to Everyone! ❤ I visited for the 1st time 2 weeks ago for a birthday party and told my BF where hes taking me next time we go out! I LOVE Jazz and theres simply not enough here. So, Im Elated to have Jazz, TX Exist in this city!! 🙌 It reminds me of when I was in New York 🌆 Finally some culture 😉😎😃🎺🎹🎷
I wanted to love this this place because I love live jazz, but it came across a little cheesy. It felt more like a show for riverwalk tourists that’s been rehearsed exactly the same over and over and over. First the host told us to come back because we showed up 5 minutes early. 5 minutes! Cmon now. Our waitress was really good though. The food was just ok. My chicken was over cooked. My wife’s steak was good though. Doc did more talking than I would have preferred-I came for the music. You could tell the musicians were really talented, but it was definitely the whitest jazz band I’ve ever seen, which seemed strange.
Love this place, so classy!! Good drinks, good food and the band is wonderful!! The host is 😁 funny making jokes he creates a great atmosphere. The final touch they take their time to send you an email thanking you for coming, how great is that. I recommend this place, I am from Los Angeles and this was the highlight of our trip.
The club itself is great. The people that attend are some of the most classless people you will ever encounter in your life. We sat at the front but we were constantly betrayed by a family yelling at each other from across the room. One of the worst dining experiences of my life even though I reside at the Pearl. My wife and I have attended many times but are constantly disappointed by the atmosphere NOT from our the staff or the bands but from but the people that attend.
Great little spot if you love Jazz. You need to buy tickets if you want to listen to the performance. Dinner is very pricey, but food was pretty good.
Its a great atmosphere. Small, but that keeps the place intimate. Good lineup.
I loved this place! The drinks are top shelf the food looked like it was to die for. Definitely get a reservation because me and my date didnt and we were suck standing next to the wall for a while. Nonetheless Im planning on making much more trips here. The vibe is definitely cool calm collected yet fun and interesting. Its difficult to find if youve never been there its underneath the food court building next to the larger area of terff/grass at the pearl.
Amazing place! I’m speechless about my experience there. You just have to come and try it.
We attended the Big Band Christmas concert at Jazz, TX at the Pearl at the invitation of a friend. What an absolutely fabulous concert! The musicians were extraordinary plus their showmanship elevated the event to another level. Food and service was excellent and the staff was helpful and kind. If you ever have the opportunity...GO!
As a huge jazz fan I had been itching to go here for a year now. I live about 150 miles west, so when the opportunity arose I hurried over. A festival at the Pearl led me to be late to my reservation, but the hostess was very nice and I was seated quickly right by the stage. I tried the brisket tacos and they were very tasty. A gin and tonic and some bossa nova and I was on cloud 9. You can get addicted to this place.
Omg! First time here and We were greeted with respect and quick service, The server, who was great, brought our drinks promptly and was quick to refill our water glass to keep us balanced and enjoyable. Also, the whole get there at the seating time was perfect and should be done at all events elsewhere! The Band Jose Amador and Terra Nova were absolutely perfect and the sound was perfect, I only wish It couldve been record, that was a very nice performance!!! We didnt try the food but it looked and smelled amazing as it was brought out! We had a great time and will be back for more!!!
Unfortunately, this isn’t a glowing review. Hopefully this doesn’t get hidden - but id still like to share my experience.Anyway, the music and service was great. But the band leader (Doc Watkins) talked way too much, wasn’t funny, and kept making off color jokes. He also made some mildly racist jokes that made us a bit uncomfortable… But I guess that’s just Texas. Felt like I was transported to an old jazz club from the 1940s, but not in a good way. I imagine when other bands play the vibe isn’t like this. The staff are nice and the drinks are fine. Doc, maybe lay off the inc*st jokes next time. Overpriced jazz club.
My wife and I were celebrating our birthdays and decided to finally check out Jazz, TX. Sure wish we had done so sooner! We had a fantastic time. Brandon Guerra and the band did an incredible job for New Orleans night. It was a party! Lots of fun and interaction with just flat out great music. Everyone performing looked like they were having a blast and it was very contagious with the audience. The food and drink were great too. Definitely will be back and highly recommend for a fun, fun date night!!
Life changing!Love, love, love the music here. The Doc Watkins Orchestra was amazing. I was merely interested in Jazz before last night. Now I am a Jazz fan. Loved all the solos. We had the filet, the caprese, the brussel sprouts, and the crème brûlée. To drink we had the Tempranillo wine, the Wild Acre bock and the Odell Scottish ale. Everything was amazing. The menu online is different than what they are offering right now.A few notes: I ordered a rare filet and it came out medium. I would have sent it back if it wasn’t so darn good. When it originally came out it was given to another table so we had to wait extra long to get our food. When it did come out it was not accompanied by my wife’s food. She ordered a salad! I finished my entire plate before her food eventually came out. So the wait staff is certainly under experienced but all the good food, drinks and music made up for it all. Will definitely be back.
Amazing experience! Have to book your spot before you go, they get sold out. Had dinner before the show, so have not tried their food, but drinks were tasty. Atmosphere and music were superb. Music pieces and show by Dr.Watkins were perfect. Entry fee is added to your tab.
The food, music, and service were all terrific. Its too bad its an hour and a half drive, otherwise I would be back much more often.
Great food, drinks and atmosphere! Chef Lorenzo inspires some good Texas Southern food such as Mac and Cheese with Rattle snake sausage, quail wings, and tacos! This place gets packed so make sure to reserve or come early. Music changes depending on night so could be Salsa, country, but most often Jazz. Definitely worth a visit!
Great place if your a lover of jazz good food and drinks friendly staff
The best jazz shows in Texas. Been there 3 times in the past few months and never a dull moment. Acoustics are phenomenal. Wait staff is very attentive and its a perfect place to take a date if you want to impress them. If I could give 10 stars I would. Cant wait to get back.
Fabulous ambience and location. Very classy. Excellent music, of course. Great food and selection of cocktails. My husband and I love this place. Its perfect for date nights. John Pizzarelli played last night and it was one of our favorite shows. A fun and romantic vibe. Did I mention their pecan pie? To die for.
I took my partner here on a Saturday night for the 9:30pm show to celebrate his birthday. We had a great time. We both love music but are not jazz experts by any means. The show was fantastic! Energetic and talented performers backed Doc Watkins who runs the joint, is the band master, pianist and MC who also serves as comedian. The food selection was decent but you are paying Pearl prices. Cocktails were top notch and priced accordingly. We had a great night and the staff were shooing us out the door before we knew it. I will certainly come back again.
Fabulous venue and good food too! Though nothing can compare with the performance we attended by Emilie-Claire Barlow. She is very talented and had a lovely chemistry with the crowd, and the musicians with her were the perfect complement. I can’t wait to return!
Loved it here, everything was amazing. The show was so fun and wonderful, and the food was delicious (they even had veggie options which I loved). I loved the watermelon cocktail. We reserved a seat at the bar and it was a great view. Can’t believe we hadn’t come here sooner. This will definitely be a repeat date night for us. I can’t wait to come back and see the Disney show!
Came on Saturday for big band night with doc Watkins. Amazing show. We were in town for a conference and its exactly what we needed. We booked about a week in advance and paid about 45 per person for tickets. Its in the basement of the food court in the pearl district. We couldnt find it at first. But we found an elevator and uooj exit we found the stairs. I got the burger and she got the pasta both were good and flavorful. The food isnt cheap but Id say average for the area. We spent about $114. Prior to tip. Two cocktails, a Glass of wine. And two entrees, fries, and dessert. The staff and musicians were great. The vibe is amazing. Next time we would show up earlier but we ran behind at a conference. Thanks for a great night we were surprised!
This was an amazing experience! The service was excellent! The meal was outstanding. And the entertainment, well...that was incredibly good. This place is a wonderful speak-easy experience with very talented jazz musicians. Believe me, you will not be disappointed.
Came here with a couple of friends and this experience was fantastic. The food was good - had the caprese salad, brisket tacos, and the pecan pie and they were all good. I would definitely come back here. Cocktails were also quite tasty. Highly recommend.
Chill atmosphere. Great excuse to dress up and enjoy good food, spot on drinks, and live music. Erin, our waitress, was excellent. The food was delicious! Must try while in san antonio.
My husband and I had a wonderful time. The staff was professional and friendly. This is our second time coming there this year (2022) and definitely will be coming back in 2023, also the band was terrific love the music and audience vibe was great band sounds awesome.
The show was great, food and drinks were amazing. My only complaint is the seating situation. We reserved table 101, but we were seated in table 102 and couldnt see the stage very well. I still had a great time, though.
Wow! Saw Doc Watson band during my birthday weekend - what a spectacular band! The music was fantastic and the show huegly entertaining. A great venue with outstanding food and drinks, and fine service. I could go every day!
This place is amazing! Very friendly staff. The band is awesome and the music is excellent! Good wine and good food. My wife and I started with the quail twists, I highly recommend that as an appetizer. My main course was fried chicken, it had a sweet breading which was a bit of a surprise to me. I very much enjoyed it. My wife order a house salad, it was good. We will absolutely go back. It is best if you reserve a table ahead of time, but this visit we were able to walk in and get a table. Only stood for about 10 min. You NEED to check this place out. Great date spot and good spot for a small group of friends as well.
Our new place to hang out when in town. Love the basement atmosphere and the musical guest are always great. If you have an open mind to music and want a total adult experience...you should go.
The atmosphere was great. The music was wonderful, the drinks were good and the food was delicious. Jess was a good server. We enjoyed ourselves and will be back.
Amazing if you to listen to jazz and eat dinner very good food and music
What a wonderful birthday surprise from my husband. He planned this wonderful evening there....it was Latin night. Thank you, Jose Amador and Natiao, for an AH-MAY-ZING show!!!! Theres a small dance floor in the middle close the stage. It filled up pretty quickly once the vibes increased. Cant wait to go back!!!!Also... the bananas in Havana drink is a must try. It tasted like a White Russian but also like a Black Russian....at the same time. Nonetheless, I had 2, lol
Absolutely loved this. Great place. Great atmosphere. Great cocktails. Good food. A-M-A-Z-I-N-G live jazz music. Jazz Disney was something to write home about. Cant wait to come back and bring everyone l know. ESPECIALLY my grew up with Disney kids! This place is the bees knees. -Steve
Definitely a date night for the pompous, has a certain snobbiness in the air. While there is food service, people dont usually go for it, just for drinks and dessert. The waitresses are quite sensitive as well, so being careful with your language as well as being as polite as you possibly can is necessary or else they kind of skip your table for a while. She asked for my ID and she took a long time reading so i just said my age and she was very visibly hurt and gave a face to us for the rest of the night. Its okay as some people havent gone out in the real world yet! The show was really sweet, wonderful performance from everyone and they gave it their all. I do wish there was more excitement in the air, as their usual clientele made some parts feel apathetic. But thats not jazz TX fault, its just the old folks that come there. I would call this a one time special occasion spot, as the tickets tend to be pretty expensive. About 50 pp on a weekend. The reason for the 5 stars is of course the entertainment, the apple bread pudding and personally the company I had.
Our visit here earlier this week was lovely. The wine selection is pretty good, the food is pretty good, and the waitstaff are attentive and engaging. The ambiance is what set it apart for me, theres something a little romantic about seeing a literal underground jazz show beneath the Pearl while the rest of the world carries on above you. Date night, celebration night, or just Thursday night, its worth a visit.
Always great atmosphere. The food wasnt the best this time but not to bad.
Bottom Line: I think this place is more about the atmosphere and band than the food. The band playing Dave Brubeck was quite impressive. They had great energy and did a phenomenal job. There isnt a bad seat in the place, imo. My only minor complaint was the food. It was good but not great. A 24 dollar Wygu beef burger should be amazing. It was just okay. The aioli was flavorless. The side of fries, which was 7 dollars extra, made up for the burger. My wife said the salmon was OK, but her sides were just meh.
Amazing atmosphere and music! My husband and I visited for a baby moon trip and have been searching for a laid back place with live jazz music, dessert, and coffee. We got just that here! Our server, Ian, was polite and respectful of our space and didnt make us feel pressured to order anything other than what we asked for! Will be back for sure!
Such a great experience! Took my wife here for date night and got to see Doc Watkins and his Quartet play. We had front row, center stage seats, and wow it was amazing. All of the musicians were fantastic, the drinks and food were great and all in all we both had a wonderful time. We are already planning a trip to come back!
Great show amazing service. This venue is ideal for date and specialty cocktails
Great staff, food was delicious, and I loved the music, it was amazing!!! The only thing I suggest is to update the menus on Google because theyre incorrect, and the prices are lower. When I looked and wanted something off of there, the waiter said that was the old one, and I was disappointed 😞 but everything else was great.
Remember when Steve and Barbara Wolfe ran Casbeers on Blanco, before they moved to the old church on S. Alamo? It was a crumbling, dark, cramped, little joint where they served beer and enchiladas. The enchiladas were fine. The beer was cold. In the tiny Mens room was a single old, battered and scarred commode and sink, and the women had to walk to the front of the room beside the small stage, and shove open a curtain to get to the Ladies room. The wall deco was Texas Rock n Roll souvenirs and beer signs. Now and again, the kitchen odors competed with lingering pockets of sewer gas. But!! What was wonderful about it was that Steve and Barbara loved music and musicians, and some of the coolest, talented musicians in San Antonio and Austin played there. I loved that place. RIP Steve and Barbara. Some 16 years later I find myself in a basement room where nearly everything is the dream upgrade of Steve and Barbs Casbeers. The food is excellent. The joint is bright and spotless. The staff are competent and friendly. The bathrooms are luxurious. All the tables and chairs match. The food fragrances dont compete. The thing thats the same as Casbeers is the reverence and respect for the music. JT showcases great talent and hosts an eclectic musical perspective, from jazz in all its permutations, to zydeco, rock, and blues. Ive heard great music there. Jazz, TX is swanky but laid back; a cool, upscale, dig-the-music venue slash supper club. I love that place.
The club has a legitimate speakeasy vibe with really good food and great band! This was my 3rd time here, and I have yet to be disappointed 😊
Be sure to make a reservation! Every table and bar seat will likely be booked, and for good reason. Whoever is playing will be top notch. The drinks and dining are also excellent. Your server will be friendly and competent. Doc will put on a show that will leave you wanting more.
This place always delivers on a good time.Pricey but worth it
Reserve a table for sure! So worth it. Gets packed for the shows. Drinks and food selection were great! Shows were phenomenal. It is a bit loud so if you have sensitive ears, consider light ear plugs.
Its a nice place to go and see a wonderful show and have a few drinks while there. The pecan pie is lovely and delicious. Always a must get when my wife and I go. The musicians are so very talented and always make for a great experience. We have been a few times and will be back for more.
My wife and I have been dating 21 years and this is our favorite date night to date. We have been three times now and had most food from the menu and it has all been fantastic. Our latest show was a Disney night, in which out 12 and 13 year olds went with us. They loved it and as aspiring young musicians it was great for them to see the outstanding talent. Additionally, the tenor saxophonist took time after the show to chat with my son about because we mentioned he was a tenor sax play too. It made his and our night. We are new to San Antonio and so glad this place exist.
Awesome club. Great upscale menu. Chips and queso is excellent and the burger is amazing. Happy hour pints on draft $5. Little to no cover for a reservation. Ambiance really sets the mood perfectly with the dim lighting and candle lit tables. Doesnt get much better for a romantic evening with your lady. Go see Doc Watson. He kills it on the piano!
My date surprised me with a session here. I loved it! 😍 The front service, to the kitchen, to the performers, everything was perfect!
Great live jazz in a cozy atmosphere. Imagine going to a jazz spot seeing Nat King Cole or Frank Sinatra, with great food and drinks. Clean bathrooms. Non-smoking.
Came here while celebrating thanksgiving with my family. It was such a wonderful experience! Not only are the food and drinks absolutely stellar, but the atmosphere is terrific! The night we went, a jazz band was performing which really aided in conversations for dinner. On top of this, it was beautiful to see so many people congregating simply to appreciate jazz! I will definitely be returning in my next trip to San Antonio.
Love this place! Its everything you want a jazz club to be--cozy, romantic, and good acoustics. Its also wonderful they often have an early show (5:30-7:30)--perfect when you want to have dinner with some good vibes. My only complaint was the hard seats; it would be nice if the owner would put some padding on those wooden bistro chairs. Other than that, a great night out; a lovely addition to The Pearl!
My wife and I went here for the Valentines Day show this year and let me tell you, Doc Watkins is no joke. He operates a very fine establishment that is absolutely one of San Antonios best hidden gems of the Pearl District. Located in the basement under the old bottling plant, where any jazz place should be in my opinion, you walk into a different time period as you see a small, dim light space filled with classic neon and instruments. Literally this place does not have much room for tables so you have to book this in advance but it makes the experience much more intimate. Musically, it was one of the best live performances Ive ever been to. To be able to pay some small cover of $30 or so and get a great show is unheard of. To top that, the food was great and hand crafted cocktails are perfectly done here. We absolutely will be back here and I advise anyone to at least swing by here for a drink, the tunes go far into the night. Cheers.
Music is phenomenal just like the service but the food is so overpriced and over cooked. I’d recommend eating before but please come for the show!
What can I say except, just an all around good time? Great drink menu, brisket mini tacos and bread pudding is so so good! But to have the atmosphere was just a great change of pace, recommend to any jazz lover 💚
