The Mix

My friends and I went here on a Thursday night visit to San Antonio and were lucky to find this spot. The drinks are cheap (they have $3 beers and $5 ranch water), the bartenders are friendly, the ambiance is great, and the clientele is lively.The only thing that was not satisfactory that night was the karaoke host, Dale. He refused to play certain songs, including Fly Me to the Moon and My Way by Frank Sinatra. These are crowd favorites and karaoke standards, but according to Dale, they’re not “the vibe.” In order to find out if he’ll play your song you have to hunt through a spreadsheet.And it wasn’t just the choice in music; as a technician he left something to be desired. The monitor and microphone levels were adjusted improperly most of the time until one singer corrected him in the middle of her song.Even after that he started turning the performers’ microphone down so that we all had to strain and scream in order to be heard over the music. You can see examples of that in the videos I took.His microphone was turned much higher than the performers’ microphone and he completely sang over one girl for her entire song—a classic move in the book of karaoke hosts with small man syndrome.I’m giving the bar a five star rating. The karaoke host I would rate much lower; you guys deserve better. I hope that either The Mix finds a better karaoke host, or that Dale cleans up his act. Until that time, I’ll be back, but not on a Thursday.

I love the vibes here its got that goth/hole in the wall,comfortable yet layed back setting. Depending on what your vibe is they got shows for it too. Anime/goth/emo just all around chill and fun! Drink specials as well. Definitely one of my faves on st. Marys strip!

The bar tenders are amazing and the service is amazing I would definitely recommend it as a rock great vibe chill nature.

The thing that got me to try it out was the on site, free parking and the EDM music.The drinks frankly arent great. The margaritas are made with an ocean spray juice, which I dont like but can tolerate for the cheap price but last time I went there it tasted like wet towel; the bar tender said it was the bottom of the machine mix and then gave me a hand mixed margarita (which was thoughtful) but that too tasted like wet towel. I ended up barely sipping either drink and leaving it to be trashed.Anyways, I dont go for the drinks or to drink. I go for the music. I cant think of anywhere with a DJ moving 80s, 90s, dark music and J pop. There havent been any repeat songs from what Ive observed.I didnt realize the first Sunday of the months was hillbilly music, so that was a bit disappointing to expecting EDM, but now I know to skip that day.Im actually not sure what I could order next time and drink that would be good. Im trying to give them money, but they are making it difficult.Between the free parking and good music, Ill go back often.

Decades hang out. Not for the faint of heart! All my metal/goth/punk/rocker/emo friends enjoying the vibe... bands play often. Always a good time!

As someone who used to go to the Mix in the early 2000s it is the sentimental aspect I love. Alot of the ambiance is the same but some aspects have changed. Great bartendresses, kind & friendly cozy, great music location. Parking is a challenge but hoping that gets remedied. All in all grab your buds and head over. The Mix is still the heart of SA live music scene.

Such a cool spot! I had a BLAST

I was just in The Mix and was pretty flabbergasted that I was attacked otw out for absolutely nothing. I paid for my one SINGLE drink and tipped accordingly. The bartender who took my order ( skinny hipster african american dude) came around the bar as I was paying and walking out and tried to bully me out of the door. He pursued me further all the way past Joeys into the parking lot and across the street. He then punched me in the head twice before being pulled back by a fellow employee. This is an attack on an innocent patron. I didnt do anything to this guy. Any explanation for this type of behavior is simply not acceptable. You are not supposed to treat paying customers who did absolutely NOTHING wrong this way. A police report has been made and will followed to the fullest extent of the law. Additionally, management actually condoned and orchestrated the whole incident. Apparently he decided to ostracize me for no reason whatsoever. The kicker is that my band has performed there a couple of times and I have played solo there too. Unbeknownst to me, I am the lucky one who ANDREW (manager) and Rob Smith (the bartender) hated from behind the bar this whole time. I will never ever visit that bar again. I hope you dont either. Its overrated and sinks like vomit.

They advertised Linkin Park night… then they played maybe three Linkin Park songs. Then the bathrooms broke and flooded… kind of a bummer. We went next door and found a live band so it worked out.

Always a good time. Outside seating. Great bartenders. Always such a good vibe. The variety of beer is a bit selected but always something for someone. Its always a fun place to hang out.

This place has really fallen off the strip. It looks like an abandoned building during the day and the floors looked like they havent been cleaned in years. Theres still some really good bartenders and a few DJs that set up here but there arent very many good shows anymore, and the mix is really, really bad at promoting unless its emo night or cover bands. You can basically find the same level of entertainment at any sports bar in San Antonio. Their drink prices change on different days without notice or advertisement so keep an eye on your bar tab. With most other places on the strip doing so much more, this place is a last resort.

These are my people so its always a great time. Super friendly door people, bartenders and awesome bands and DJs.

Beautiful mural!!! How can you not love King George, the king of country music!!! George Strait should be honored, great job. Need to see the mural on The Mix wall with other murals. Wonderful addition to St. Marys trendy neighborhood.

Beenhere a few times, really love the atmosphere and the bartenders are all pretty damn cool. Havent had any food if they serve it but the drinks are fantastic, and its pretty inexpensive honestly compared to some bars Ive been to.

THE LIVE BAND WAS GREAT, NOT SURE OF THE BANDS NAME.. WE VISITED THE MIX ON SATURDAY, WAS A LITTLE HESITANT DUE TO THE MANY CHANGES IT HAS GONE THROUGH BUT WE GAVE IT A SHOT. AGAIN THE BAND WAS AWESOME, IT WAS A BIT HUMID FOR AN INDOOR BAR BUT THAT WAS THE LEAST OF THE PROBLEM. BAR TENDERS HAD MANY LOYAL CUSTOMERS THAT THEY SERVICED FIRST THEN THE NEW FACES, WHEN FINALLY HELPED WE ASKED FOR A BLUE HAWAIIANS.... UUUUMMMM BELOW IS THE DRINK THAT WE PAID FOR AND LEFT.. SO MUCH FOR GOOD QUALITY.. THE GUY COULD HAVE SAID HE DOESNT KNOW HOW TO MAKE IT BUT HE TRIED I GUESS..

If youre looking for a place to enjoy drinks dancing and the company you keep...This is the place to be.Love it!

Great atmosphere, free to minimal cover charge. I went on Tues night for amateur poetry night. The DJ was really good. The drinks were cheap. Encouraging crowd. I like how theres plentiful space and different areas to sit. The decor is different too, very eye catchy. Everyone is chill and friendly.

The Mix is favorite bar on strip, especially tailgating before hitting the Tiger. Love the atmosphere, bartenders, and local feel!

This place has been good to me over the years. It’s gone through many changes but some things about it will always stay the same.It’s got good air conditioning. It’s bathrooms are divey, but they appear to be tended to. There’s a couch/chill area with a pool table.You’re gonna get a different experience whenever you go. Last time I was there, I “DJ” was playing metal, hanging out at the bar, and then changing songs whenever they were over.There is this outdoor patio where I’ve spent some good times. The lighting out there ain’t too good anymore, and there are too few tables. The regulars sit in the patio and smoke, and if you so much as grab a chair when they leave, they’ll come back with drinks and give you a sideways stink eye. If the Mix made the patio smoke free, I’d bump up this review to 4 stars.

I love this bar so much! Awesome drink prices, great music, cool atmosphere. I like to go at off hours, like before 7pm, and it’s always so chill and not very crowded. Some of my favorite San Antonio memories are in this bar!!!My one suggestion to management: I like yall’s black Mix logo tees (with the martini glass and the est. 1991) and I bought one. It fits super wide and it’s really rough despite loads of fabric softener. I think you should consider new shirts... I’d buy another one :)

Went out and had a great night Saturday evening. The bar was hipping and hopping but Raven still made me feel very welcome and important. Would def recommend this place to my people😊

Like a small time machine. Many different fashions, ages, types. Always a friendly face though. Come down every weekend for a live performance that will sureley rock the house. Lots on draft, lots drinks, slightly short on liquors but they can make good shots with a beer to serve. Only complaint is parking, but thus is the St. Marry area.

You have to know the djs and follow them to know what music is being played ...the website does not update . Good drinks.

Fun, yum pizza but even yummier wings. Just wish the music was a bit louder since I am paying to hear songs. Nice atmosphere. Enjoyed. Have a shot of purple gecko. An the waitress Erica Tip her!!! Shes on top of that!

Been going for years to this bar. Its one of favorites over the years when I move back to San Antonio. I remember good happy hours conversation outside with other regular customers. I like the live shows theyve provided as well. Miss my bar friends then I just go here and theyre all showing up besides Tony. I miss that crazy old bat.

Such a great atmosphere! No cover charge and you have to take pictures with all their vintage stuff! Everyone is relaxed and sipping on alcohol but there is PLENTY of room to dance. They even have an outside deck to chill. great spot

In the last 15 years that I have been here I have never been insulted this way. We have two lazy people that went outside to smoke weed came inside and decided to no longer serve me because they saw me on my phone and actually being very critical of how they serve. Im quite sure I will not see these two next year theyre both lazy and pander to loose women.

Both bar tenders just ignored me for 30 minutes while they visited with friends or maybe locals who frequent the place. Out of mixers at 8:40 pm. Asked for a double and a glass of water so I wouldn’t have to go back to the bar, but had to repeat the order 4 times because he couldn’t understand. Not that he couldn’t hear, he just couldn’t remember 2 things at a time.

They Hate on any New Coming Artist and dont care about respect, talked to the owner on socials, lets just say isnt San Antonio worthy

Open since 1997, this corner bar recently (in the last 3 years) had a facelift to the interior with new mural painted. It still has the bones of the conversion with a single pool table and split level seating area by the bar. The best part about this place is the smallish patio with wrought iron fence. Its the designated smoking area, if you dont mind that it is the best place to people watch the St Marys strip on a weekend night. The bar staff is usually friendly and has a stage for live local.music which is quite frequent

Its arguably THE staple of The St. Marys Strip. Pop in for the excellent prices of nothing else. Oh, and live shows out the backside.

It is a nice bar. They have music playing on a projector when there is no live band and the drink prices are okay. They have one pool table instead of 3 like they used to and I think I saw a hair salon chair in there.. its not an upscale bar but more of a dive bar conveniently placed on the strip with other torusity bars. The Pool table is $1 per game so dont come here expecting to get much game play and the patio is small for a venue on St Marry s. The restrooms were dirty half the time I have been there and the vending Machine with cigarettes is $8 for a pack.. so if you are from New York buy your ciggys here to feel right at home.

Cool venue, great service, and WHAT? They have an actual draft beer list? Dont fear the sometimes cover this place is Absolutely stellar!

Wednesday afternoon about 5.30p..no happy hour pricing...4 beers $17...none on tap.. Music was too loud with too much treble and not for me. We were going just passing through and looking for some cold beer at a chill place. May be for some that are overloaded with tattoos and facial piercings but not for me. Im 47 and wont be going back there. Not my bag baby.

Dig the live music, drink specials and vibe. Moving about quite sux. Odd layout doesn’t leave much elbow room. On the positive side there is no reason not to meet a new friend.

Cool place. Enjoyed the show I went to see. They had a nice patio for smoking. Only complaint was that one bartender charged me $7 for a beer and another charged me $7.50 for the same beer plus another.

Been going here for over 7 yrs now, and its definitely seen a change in the crowd and music, but its still a good place to have a relaxing time, be it indoors with the a/c or outside on the patio. Their beer and shot special is my fav, Lone Star and Jameson for $6. There are other beer/liquor options, but I cant remember what they are. Restrooms are always clean and have TP, and not ever much of a crowd so drinks come quick. Its normally a DJ on the stage although bands come thru every so often. Overall a great place to start your night off with cheap drinks or stay and hang with friends.

The place was super hot, only fans were running but think the ac was down. Our beer was not cold enough to enjoy, music was ok. Took long to get beers too. Maybe Ill try again some other time

Staff was the warmest and nicest I have encountered anywhere in a good long while. Plus I love the new-ish look since my days coming here in the aughts.

This is the place where you come to have beer and whiskey and tequila, and I mean that in the best way possible. Dont come here for your trippel IPA aged in a bourbon barrel even though you might find one. Come here for music at a bar.

One of the best bars for music and cold beers.

Yes a two is harsh but when the bathroom only has one stall with no tp and pee all over the seat and the urinals are covered with plastic bags and there is pee all over the entire floor its a heath and safety issue. Its as if no one even tried to fix the urinals prior to opening for the night and figured they could make it through the day with one functioning toilet. If i owned this place i would be embarrassed! Other than that it can be a fyn bar.

This isnt my favorite place to go, but its gotten a face lift since Ive been in there last. Some of the drink prices are steep for me. Check it out if youre trying to scope the Strip.

Im biased towards The Mix for my own.reasonsHowever since Ive returned Ive gone a few times. Even though ive yet to see it as busy as I have its still lame,but its a great location and tourist seem to love coming down here.

My band plays here a lot and we love it! Friendly bartenders an great beer selection.

Full poors (depending on the bartender) with an adequate selection of liquor and beer on tap and in the bottle (including microbrews). Generally good canned music, but it really wakes up when the music is live.

Dont go herr if you expect to be twerking to the latest rapper. Leather jackets and docs are the usual attire, and mind the slight drop off as you walk from one side of the bar to the other.

This is the perfect spot to have a really cold beer, served by a sweet and beautiful lady. This is how I like to relax. Ah yes, bring on the sweet smell of bleach.

Nice vibe, however drinks are a little pricey for the area and the restrooms are kinda raunchy however all of them are in the area.

Ive never been to the mix.. However that picture of the bar with all the Tecate beers lined up is NOT the mix, its Jandros garden patio down the street from the mix.
