Jan Massage

Do not go here. I am visiting from nyc. Went to get a couples massage, full body massage for both after a hike. I think my masseuse feel asleep on me, where her body weight was just on top of me. i had to move my arm to let her know i was awake. And when she woke up, she massaged me really fast to move to the next part of my body.I notified her to be gentle on my left shoulder cause I had a recent shoulder injury, and told her to just add more pressure on my right instead. She ended up putting too much pressure on my left where she injured me. And then she didn’t even massage my right side. She didn’t even massage my neck. It wasn’t a complete 60 minutes. This was not worth 160 which was 80 each. I want to support small businesses, but I am very upset. I get it, it was a holiday, it was mother’s day, but don’t take on more costumers, and do a bad job. I should have not paid for mine.

If you like a massage with good pressure definitley go to Jan! Friendly, awesome, affordable, thorough massage, highly recommended!

I have had nothing but positive experiences at Jan Massage in Japantown San Francisco. The staff is friendly and professional. Ive received great massages from a few different therapists and they have all been pros. My current therapist, Jenny, has an incredible touch. She perfectly blends relaxation with therapeutic massage. The pain in my neck and should got so much better after a few appointments with Jenny. I cant recommend her more!

Located downstairs next to the Korean BBQ. Informal, but affordable. If youre looking for someone to fix your problems, Jans the one for you. If youre looking for a zen spa experience, go elsewhere. My therapist was amazing and I would go back in a heartbeat. They even stayed open an hour later than normal so my husband could get a massage too. We didnt press for that or anything, they just offered! They prefer cash or Venmo, but I believe they do accept card. Please go see Jan. Its worth it and your back will thank you.

For the price, its great. I come here often and the main reasons being the affordability, service and location. They are extremely nice and friendly here, but the massages itself are rather... inconsistent. Theyre not tailored to the individual, so the approach is pretty much the same across the board. It might even be the luck of the draw based on which masseuse you get that dictates how good it is. Also, the building itself is quite noisy and you can hear customers coming in every so often, talking to the owner or amongst themselves. I know this isnt their fault, but this defeats the relaxing atmosphere that comes with a massage. That said, Ill still be coming here regardless.

Jenny gives a firm massage and found the tight spots in 2 min…. I would definitely go back when in town again. Wish I’d booked more than 1 hour. Very nice lady as well.

Massages here are great. All the therapists are careful, accommodating and just great at what theyre doing. Both me and my husband come here regularly to get our massages. I was sore after a 24 hour trip and I came out of there without feeling barely any pain anymore.

Its a terrible place, we went as a couple to get a massage, we got two masseuses who dont know the job. They massaged the bones instead of the muscles, they went over our spines with the hammers, they hurt us with hot stones. Do not go near this place for your health

Very sweet lady, but the foot massage was more like getting a vigorous scrub under plastic than a massage. Pretty uncomfortable. I had called ahead to confirm I could pay and tip by card, but their credit card machine was not connected to the phone line and as the lady who was helping me couldnt understand it I think she suspected it was my card. She had to escort me to the nearest atm, which was embarrassing for us both. Lovely individual, but I cant recommend the experience.

Great massage. Price is affordable and massage was very relaxing. Very nice staff and very friendly. My therapist was Mina and she was great. Definitely recommend this place.

Ive been here several times. I like that they are super flexible with my schedule and have always been able to get me in with only a few hours notice. I suffer from back and neck pain so it is good to have a place to go to in a pinch. I was a bit skeptical to go to an Asian Massage parlor at first but decided to give it a try. It is a bit different than your traditional massage spa (with robes and stuff). However, I think they are a bit more thorough. They always pop my back, which I like. I also appreciate that they ask what is causing you pain and listen. Overall, I have had a good experience here and plan to go again in the future.

I had a massage at Jan Massage and they were awesome! The massage therapist was very laid back and easy to work with and does an incredible job. I play sports and do somewhat heavy workouts and she totally got rid of my muscle soreness and the headache I went in with, as well as worked out some kinks in my right shoulder. I thought the office was very easy to find and the space and atmosphere is relaxed and inviting. Loved it!

Definitely not the traditional massage I am uses to. This was more of a Thai technique where the focus on more on the lower part of the body. What I didnt appreciate was that it was my upper body that was the problem, but the lady never asked me, nor did she appear to realize this was the issue. I didnt like how fast her movements were, and it didnt really appear relaxing for the most part. Often times, she was way too rough and when I told her this, I was told pain is a good thing. Um, no THAT much pain is not. I actually left feeling worse than when I had come in, and I had to sit in my car for a good 20 minutes before being able to drive. She was nice, but unfortunately she did not listen very well. This experience has made me very weary about getting another massage as Im worried they wont listen. I felt it was way too pricy for what I got.....

Got their to find no one at the entrance. Waited about 10 mins before someone arrived. She started the massage at about 10 mins past and ended 5 mins early (45 mins total). Ignored my repeated request to focus on lower body. Then as I was paying, she informs me that a 20% gratuity is mandatory even though nothing was mentioned on the website or at the site. When I pointed that out she got annoyed and started mumbling in another language. Obviously, never again!

I had my first massage ever here and I loved it. I went on hung over and came out feeling great. Really saved my day.

Massage was decent for $70 bucks for a 30 min session, but not the best I had for cheaper. They demanded a 20% tip and seemed furious that I only tipped $10. They told me I needed to tip more because the job was very strenuous. I felt like I was gained up on by three ladies asking for more tips. Wont be coming back here forsure. Went to relax, but came out feeling forced 😕.

Great massage experience. I was here randomly for the first time and the full body massage experience was great! I was the last customer of the day and the owner is willing to stay late for my walk-in request. I bought my girlfriend here the second time for a couple massage and the good experience went on. I expect to come more in the future.

This place is for those who appreciate traditional Eastern massage of the no pain no gain type. Mrs. Jan knows where and what is wrong by touch and how to work on the issues. She did wonders with the tightness I had from all the city walking I don’t usually do in the Midwest. I’d be a regular customer if lived nearby.

The masseuse tried to use her knuckles to massage my muscle, but instead she kept massaging my bones and spine (which hurts), and she did not change her technique after being told. The masseuse also did a lot of coughing during the massage without turning her head away, which made the experience a bit uncomfortable and also less sterile. When I was done paying and tipping, I was met with another masseuse who wanted me to tip twice in the door, and I thought this was very unprofessional. All in all, the experience was full of repetitive pinching and general discomfort, but no real pain relief or comfort. I felt a bit fooled because of all the good reviews, so I am really hoping that this was just a very unlucky day, because the masseuses all seem very sweet.

$55 for an hour full body massage. I mean in SF that is hard to beat. I was tempted to do the 1.5 hour one but since it was my first time I decided to start with the hour. Obviously massages are so different person to person but I did enjoy mine. (Dont remember my masseuses name) She used a LOT of pressure which I like but definitely not for everyone. A lot of holding hard pressure on different points and then releasing. If it was ever too hard I just let her know and she backed off. They used coconut oil and wiped it all off with a wet warm towel and then dried. The rooms are just separated by sheets but I went in the middle of a weekday so it was quiet and relaxing. This isnt a 5 star spa but the price is right if you dont mind sacrificing some things !

I went in with an extremely sore neck and shoulder and they worked out all the kinks with very strong pressure. I was sore the day after but the neck pain is had for a week was gone! The best massage Ive ever had!The facility was super clean and bright. They tell you how to find street parking on their website. Check it out in case you need it.

I stepped into Jan Massage after exercising intensively. When I stepped out, I found that my muscles loosened up and were no longer cramped. Throughout my massage, it was evident that Jenny was knowledgeable of what she was doing. She listened to my needs and accommodated them smoothly. The staff members were also very friendly and punctual, creating a positive environment that was also neat and tidy.

Staff are experienced professionals who deliver high quality service tailored to the customers unique needs. I had a series of issues they adjusted each session to address, from a knee injury to tight calves to a stubborn knot in my back. I was a repeat customer throughout my visit to SF and would be again if I come back to the city.

This is probably the best bang for your buck massage in the city, with great masseuses that actually do care to do more than the run of the mill massage, they tailor it to you & they will focus on those knots & wherever hurts and they are very attentive. I loved Crystal who really paid attention to my muscles and helped me relax, and had a great experience with Jenny who also had very good hands.

Wow! Best massage Ive experienced in the $50-$100 price range. Wendy was a very intuitive masseuse. The location is no frills, but this adds to its charm. I will be recommending my friends to this gem.

My massage therapist was Susan. She was phenomenal! I came in very tired & no energy. She asked me if the pressure she was using was ok and she took her time to hit all the pressure point. I came out relaxed and no body aches! I will definitely come back again. I’m very happy.

My husband was in terrible pain after our flight and we tried booking a massage in several places with no luck.We called Jan Massage and made an appointment for the same day and we were so glad we did .Our experience was just perfect-the place is clean,welcoming and relaxing,pricing was very reasonable .We left feeling brand new and extremely happy !Would definitely recomend it!

I felt that the masseuse really looked for the tight/knotted area of my back and focused on that. I have scoliosis also and appreciated some alignment therapy he provided. The pressure was really hard, which I like, and 2 days after I did notice improvement in my back pain. Ill be back!

Actually I dont want others to know this little massage store because people spread good words mouth by mouth and recommend friends and families to here, which makes me hard to schedule an appointment. Its not a fancy looking massage store but if you try once, youll definitely visit as a regular customer. As a white collar, I have back and neck issues like others, I rely on swimming and massage for every two weeks. Sometimes I come after light dinner and would have a glass of Asahi beer and fried rice or a small bowl of ramen after massage. Its my savoring moment during weekdays.

Their body massage was great. The massage I received was more like a therapeutic massage, which should normally be more expensive. I have been to many other places, but they only offer massages that relaxes muscle. This one, they focus on my knots and the injury I got from working out. Like it so much.

Made an appt. I showed up and a woman was confused why I was there. Then she speaks to me in Chinese (which I dont understand) calls another woman speaking in Chinese and seems unhappy (I think she called the owner). It was uncomfortable, strange and waste of my time as Im just standing there not understanding whats going on. I had reserve this rare time off for a massage and this was unprofessional. I left. Plus, the place looks unkept and not relaxing for a massage place

Wandering around J-town for an afternoon and then wanted to stop somewhere for a massage. It was around 730 at night and places don’t seem to open late around here. I found this on google maps and walked in - she took me right away and was amazing!! Jenny (Janny?) was my therapist and she was so good at working out all the kinks in my back and shoulders. She was really friendly and professional. From the outside the place doesn’t look like anything amazing, but everything points otherwise :) I would definitely come back when i’m in the SF area again!

Came here after a friends recommendation. My back was so messed up but all the docs gave me at the hospital was narcos and muscle relaxers... I couldnt even take my own clothes off before the massage but after one session with Jan I clothed myself and walked out on my own! Two more sessions and my back was back to normal! I will be going back again and again! Also to note: the massages HURT but they are so EFFECTIVE! Be sure to tell the masseuse if it hurts too much and they will lessen the pressure.

The parlor is somewhat rudimentary (you will hear what goes on outside of your little curtain massage box) but the massages are very energetic and relaxing. All in all a good place if you are looking for good massage for a fair price and dont really care about the ambience.

It was not a wonderful experience and the building was noisy. I would not suggest coming here even though the pricing is good. I wasn’t able to get in elsewhere after I had massage here. very hard to communcate. Maybe just rusty after being out for a long time

Jan Massage is located in Japantown San Francisco, which is where I stayed for my vocation. I went there two times during my 4 nights stay at Kabuki hotel. Love it.

The lady accepted me right away without an appointment. The foot massage was great as the lady pressed and massaged the points that needed most attention.
