The deep stone massage I received was disappointing. I felt it was a bit gimmicky. Offering minimal pressure and including lots of neck vasculature massage? There was so much oil being applied, which is fine but no actual massage associated with it. Moreover, the preparation time for the stones significantly cut into the actual massage session. Ive had far more effective massages that cost me 1/4 of this price point. When I told the front desk about my experience their response was simply to suggest trying a different type of massage next time. My husband having spent nearly $700 here I had expected better customer service. However, my husband had a great experience with his massage therapist. It might just be the therapist I got for the deep stone massage. Also, we both enjoyed the private bath; it was incredibly clean and relaxing.Overall, this place is worth a visit. I just wish the customer service was better and that the quality of the massage matched the price paid.
At my arrival to the spa I was greeted by their friendly amazing staff. The scenary was so relaxing. They private soaking pools and you can stay in their private rooms overnight. It has a community soaking tub, and sauna. They provide massages and facials. I enjoyed a Japanese Organic Facial. I was so relaxed and my facial provided all the hydration my face needed. The gift shop has some cool unique items to purchase. The only disapointment was that there is no steam room. I love a good hot steam room. However, There sauna was very hot and a great size being able to fit 15 people. If you make a visit to Santa Fe you need to check out the “10,000 Waves”.
💚 I can’t believe this is in the middle of the desert! It was a surprise by my family, because Japan is my love. I have been to Japan, so I believed that the spa felt very authentic. The wood is beautiful; the atmosphere is zen; the grand spa; the foot spa; even the Japanese style toilets! And I had a shiatsu massage which was perfect, and authentic tea after. We didn’t stay in a lodging but we ate at the restaurant, which has so many unique delicious things. I need to move to the area so I can come back all the time!!
Took family from out of town for massages and time in baths. With our massage we were granted access to the shared bath. There were so many people there that my 73 year old mother had to sit on the ground. Massage was nice. Atmosphere is incredible.(In response to yours)I understand the difference. I also understood that the guests in the area are supposed to be limited to 18. At times there were more. Upon making the reservation we were encouraged to arrive early to enjoy the bath… and I really would’ve just found it appropriate & safe to, on a very warm summer day, have seating for people to cool off after)
Incredible experience, great customer service, and immaculate facilities. This is my 2nd time here and I can’t WAIT to come back.Plenty of parking. HIGHLY recommend their spa/massage services.I didn’t eat at the restaurant or stay on site, so can’t comment on those.
*Edit. Had a scheduled phone call with Nick. They took the time to make sure they understood why my massage wasn’t great. I appreciate them reaching out and getting feedback. Because of the effort and professionalism, I will still be visiting.Normally I only have amazing things to say about ten thousand waves. But today’s massage just ruined it for me. Thankfully my husbands massage was great as always. But mine was truly terrible. At one point I just asked the lady if she could stop. She kept rubbing my skin in circles until it was raw. Or just putting on oil with no actual massaging. For ten thousand waves this is strange. In the times we’ve visited 4-5 now every therapist has been amazing and knows their stuff. I don’t know if she was actually trained. I’m devastated. My husband and I always look forward to our trips to Santa Fe especially for this spa. When I told the front desk they didn’t even blink. For a $250 massage per person I feel it was nowhere near worth it. And I don’t know if I’d recommend or go again. Because for that kind of money it should be excellent every time. Also the grand bath was covered in tons of debris we had to ask the front desk for a thing to clean it. super strange for a spa that’s normally high quality.
This is the spot to go if you’re looking for a relaxing evening or weekend. The resort is nestled into the beautiful Santa Fe foothills, where the Japanese style buildings are complimented by the landscape. We chose to soak in one of the pristine private tubs, the Ichiban teacup tubs, which also has a private sauna, outdoor shower and cooling birth. Be sure to check out the restaurant for some tasty food before or after your spa treatments. Next time we’ll extend our stay by booking one of the cottages!
I had a new life experience today. I get massage therapy at least once a month and needed some relaxation before I fly out of NM tomorrow. This is a Japanese-style bath house, spa, and hotel in the mountains 20 mins NE of Santa Fe. I booked a massage for 7:30pm on Wednesday for Friday. Availability was good, even on short notice. They allow unlimited access to a grand bath hot tub the size of a pool with a waterfall when you get a treatment. I read the instructions and headed up the mountain. NM decided to give me a spectacular thunderstorm just as I headed up the mountain. I saw a bolt go across the sky and hit one of the peaks. Awesome. Then it poured buckets. I had to walk/run/stop to catch my breath up a japanese-themed trail as rain soaked my jeans, socks, and shoes. Lightning flashed around me to spur me on. I fortunately had my raincoat. I got to the check-in desk soaking wet and out of breath. It looked exactly like a japanese bath house from the movies. It smelled like clean cedar. It was beautiful. They gave me a soft cotton kimono robe and showed me how to work the lockers with a wristband. The service was like nothing I have experienced. They had my wet clothes put in a dry sauna to dry out and gave me water. Then showed me where to go. I changed and waited for the therapist and they provide ice water and tea. Ali was my therapist. He was friendly and very calming. He led me to a small private pagoda away from the noise of the main spa. With the rain pattering on the roof and lightning flashing, he proceeded to grind my sore muscles and stress into oblivion. The rain gradually stopped. I had a great conversation with the therapist. I didnt have to tell him anything. He knew exactly what to do. I dont think I have been more relaxed in my life. After I changed into a swimsuit, I relaxed in the Grand Bath/suana for about 10 minutes before it closed. I wish I would have left earlier to enjoy the bath more. I highly recommend it to anyone visiting Santa Fe. I want to stay here next time because it is also a hotel.
Everything about our NM trip was awesome. The grounds are super peaceful and the vibe from everyone who works here is too. The food at the restaurant is super fresh and extremely thoughtful. Hot tubs are relaxing and romantic. Massages were a bit pricey, but treatments were wonderful. This place is very special.
I was overcharged at the gift shop by almost $30 and sent a message to Ten Thousand Waves via their website (could not find an email to contact them). I would like a refund for the overcharge. Items were clearly marked $3 each and I was charged $9.50 for four of them. I didnt notice until I unwrapped them and saw the receipt. Still waiting to hear back to resolve this.
The spa is very relaxing. I had an excellent massage. Took my mom to celebrate her 80th BD and she loved it. We both had a great experience.
Incredible stay at this beautiful world-class hotel and spa. Worth every penny on this splurge trip for completely unique experience. Relaxing, clean uncrowded spa. Beautifully designed, large room with great amenities, wonderful staff and top notch massage therapists. Excellent food at restaurant as well. Super fun climbing stairs in our robes to go to spa on the beautiful property and making a fire in the wood stove.
A must-do if youre in Santa Fe. Beautiful and tranquil spot; the private hot tub rooms are luxurious and a perfect way to spend an afternoon.
My husband and I had massages here over the weekend and soaked in their pools and used the sauna. The place is beautiful, clean, and smells amazing. The staff is all helpful and friendly. We had shiatsu massages. My massage was the most incredible thing I’ve ever felt. I would absolutely return. The only thing that took me back was being prompted to tip on $235 massages. They were incredible, but we paid a more than fair price for our service, why are we expected to tip on top?
Everything at this hotel was fine until the receptionist Nancy showed up. We booked a private tub at 9:15, which is the earliest time available. When we checked in yesterday, we asked if we can start a little earlier because we have a museum reservation at 11, and the receptionist said we should be able to start half an hour to a hour early and we can check with the staff in the morning. So we checked with the staff in the morning around 7:30 and they told us the tub will be ready at 8:30. Then we came back at 8:30 and confirmed again with multiple maintenance staff that the tub was ready. However, when we walked by reception, Nancy stopped us and said the tub has not been cleaned and is not ready until 9 (which is a lie). When we told her that all of the maintenance staff said its ready she said that oh it has been cleaned but the water is not hot enough (another lie). Then the maintenance staff came by and told her its ready, she still insists that she need to check a few things on the computer. So we stood there and waited for 10-15 minutes while she was laughing and talking loudly with other colleagues. She finally let us in at 8:45. At 10:02, she made us leave in 10 minutes and we did not have the full 90 minutes (our reservation was 9:15-10:45). She was very condescending and not apologetic at all the whole time as if we are playing some kind of tricks. If you ever come to visit and see Nancy working here, just try to avoid her because she WILL ruin your day.***EDIT***: the reply below is ridiculous, very likely written by Nancy herself. We are lodging guests so we have the right to use Grand Bath before 9am. Everyone except Nancy has been helpful, but Nancy went out of her way to make our stay unpleasant: she overruled all of the staff to stop us from using the tub when its ready and forced us to leave in less than 90 minutes. She is the problem, not the others, and the hotel needs to train people like Nancy better on how to treat customers with respect.
This resort is located right outside of Santa Fe, nestled between hills. It’s very quiet and there are only a few villas on the way there. Parking is relatively easy to find. There are several parking lots that are of various distances to the resort entrance.Parking and accessibility: If you park at the bottom lot (the one you see when you make a turn from the road), you’ll have to walk up some flight of stairs. The walk itself is quite serene with some Japanese decor at the side of the path. If you cannot walk up the stairs, they have a free shuttle that can take you to the entrance, or you can get to one of those lots closer to the entrance so you wouldn’t have to take stairs. The resort itself has an elevator to take you to rooms, but some private tubs only have stairs that lead up to them.Privacy: the private tubs are reserved for your party even if you don’t hit the max capacity. Although open aired, we cannot hear what’s going on on the other side of our walls. I think each private tub comes with its own private bathroom and changing place and sauna. Ours did. It was such a great experience.Cleanness: everything is spotless and look super new. There is no dust or dirt or water in the bathroom. You can’t tell that someone was using the bathroom before you did. The toilet was one of those Japanese toilets that have a seat warmer.Details: facial tissue is provided. Somehow there isn’t hand soap for the sink but there’s a shower gel in its place. Shower water can get really hot. We have 5 towels provided and that’s nice. If you want you can use the public/shared changing rooms and shower, but these are not squeaky clean as the private one. There’s some ice water provided in your private tub.Sauna: I wish there’s more lighting in the sauna. As we had an evening appointment, it got very dark in the sauna with the one dim light next to the window. The sauna itself can be cramped if you have more than 2 people in there, though small children can probably fit in there comfortably.Views: we had the Shoji tub, and it looks out onto the side of the hill, but not further. It faces west but you can’t really see sunset because the hill blocks it. It’s kind of a boring view.
We ate lunch at the restuarant, shared a private tub with our children and grandchildren and spent a night in one of the lodging rooms last week. Lunch and the private tub were delightful. I felt the lodging failed to deliver the level of service I expect for the price they charge. The room and bathroom are lovely but there are no instructions in the room for the TV, fireplace or bidet. I have a bidet at home but was never able to figure out how to make this one work properly. The heated seat was great but I could never get an adequate water flow to use the bidet feature. We were told by the front desk that live TV was available on Apple TV but we never were able to make that work. After a fair amount of time trying to figure it out we called back to the desk and were told live TV was not available. The most significant concern was our attempt to use the wood burning stove. As soon as we started to build a fire the room filled with smoke, we called the desk and they gave us instructions that did not seem to work. They then sent someone form maintenance who said the front desk instructions were wrong and gave us different directions. After following those direction the smoke in the room was worse. Eventually, we let the fire die, opened all the windows, turned the heat on high and put on our fleece jackets. Everything in our suitcases smelled of wood smoke and had to be laundered when we got home. All in all a very disappointing experience for a stay that we had anticipated with a lot of excitement.
Gorgeous, immersive, relaxing. The private tubs were fantastic. We enjoyed the seclusion and the quiet. The complimentary yuzu body lotion is amazing too! The staff is so friendly, and the environment everywhere is beautiful.
Close your eyes and you’re in Japan. Your transported through your surroundings and authentic Japanese experience. Food and service 5 star. Make reservations way in advance.
This review is for the lodging experience. I usually don’t leave reviews, but I’m posting here to share information I wish we had so that our expectations were right-sized. This is not a traditional onsen or hot springs resort where you can spend the day exploring the grounds and the pools. With lodging, you get access to one pool (the “grand bath”). This is an enclosed area with a small pool and sauna that you share with all the other hotel and spa guests. All the other pools are reservation only and cost extra money. In retrospect, the email we received after booking mentioned that we could book private pools at a discount (20%) but we had no idea that our lodging costs ($$$) did not grant us access to the full grounds. Since we weren’t aware, we found ourselves disappointed, especially since the one pool we had access to was crowded for much of the time.We felt like we bought the base package without understanding that there were levels. To get the experience pictured and described, we needed to pay extra/make reservations and be in the know. This extended to the restaurant as well; we made a reservation without realizing that we needed to specify which table (by a window, etc— when we were seated, we sat in an undesirable location near a lot of foot traffic. When we asked about other open tables, we were told they had been specifically reserved). The whole vibe was elitist and clubby. Laughably in retrospect, we also had hoped for an authentic onsen experience, and what we got was a very American one. I suppose we should have known. In short, if you’re looking for a hotel with an attached spa while you’re exploring Santa Fe, this place is great. Hike, shop, try the restaurants downtown. If you’re looking for a special resort treat, make sure you know you need to book and pay for all the extras!
Fabulous time enjoying the Shoji hot tub, with jets that really massage! The sauna, cold plunge pool&shower room were so clean&enjoyable. An extra treat is the heated toilet seat w/a multi function bidet 😊
Beautiful location and buildings. Went here with my wife for a facial that was gifted to us. Got to spend an extra hour and half at the facilities before and couldve stayed till close that night. Mostly enjoyed the outside hot tub area, which included a cold plunge and sauna, but also enjoyed the foot soak area too. The place is beautiful, both what theyve built and the natural beauty of the area. The staff were all professional and courteous, as well as very friendly. Never had a facial before but enjoyed it here, as it included some massage as well.
The massage I received by Jeffrey was uncomfortable as a result of a hangnail and his rough hands. He did work on and jaw and neck and face which was a request but the discomfort from his hands and cuticles was hard to take. They also charged my friend who scheduled the massage the fee so that needed to be corrected. We reserved a two double bed room and got a king. We reserved a restaurant reservation and was put outside in a make shift pavilion for the overflow. We made reservations well in advance and didn’t understand the confusion.
We visited for the spa and private tub experience, unfortunately due to some maintenance issues our tub was cut short but were still able to enjoy the many other amenities and grand bath! We also received the Japanese facial which was extremely lovely. All the employees were extremely accommodating and polite. We will be back!
Soaked in the Waterfall tub. Lovely enclosed environment with trees, boulders, hot soaking tub, cold plunge with waterfall(could be colder IMO) sauna, private bath/shower, and places to sit and cool off. It was snowing, a little otherworldly, relaxing, and rejuvenating. I can recommend the tubs, the spa, and the restaurant. I have never stayed in the rooms.
Had a Japanese facial by Marla. Oh my god! The best ever. I dont know what she did, but I came out looking so fantastic because of her. Thank you for being an awesome person Marla! Seriously, if you havent- book a japanese facial and get it done by her. She works magic, and is such a sweet soul.
Absolutely AMAZING spa day and lunch here!! We came during the first snow of the season and it was beautiful and simultaneously very warm with our hot spring soak and all the heated floors. Everyone was very kind and helpful. My sister and I both had unique massage experiences that are hard to find in other locations. The restaurant was also excellent and had lots of vegetarian options for my sister as well as an incredible sushi bowl.
My family and I rented a hot tub for an hour and a half. We enjoyed the other things available to us at the spa. The relaxation room, and the foot soak. Everything was wonderful, and had private restrooms for us to change in with all of the necessary accoutrements. We love coming here for a special pampering day after skiing.
We got terrible service. It ruined our night. We felt completely ignored and unwelcome. We left. We were celebrating a really important day, I cannot believe how awful our experience was.
This is an outstanding place to relax and unwind. The expert spa services, private hot tub experience, and overall environment cannot be beat. One potential area of improvement is transparency of spa package prices on the reservation confirmation emails. Also, it was strange that there is a per person rate for a private group amenity, rather than a flat rate for the area with a maximum number of people. I was informed about the total price at the end of my visit, and it was significantly higher than expected. There was a brisk interaction when I asked questions. Hopefully this will be worked out for the future!
If you need some R&R and you want a place that feels surreal, this is the place. My wife and I visited and had a private outdoor bath. It had a private sauna and bathroom. Honestly I felt so revitalized after visiting. The price was really good for what all you get. Will definitely be going back soon.
Excellent and creative cuisine in a gorgeous, well-curated atmosphere. From drinks to apps to shared plates to dessert, everything is perfect.
I reserved a public pool soak on a thursday for 10:45 am. the staff was very friendly and accommodating. they gave me a quick tour of the place and answered all my questions.im giving 4 stars because the communal pool was pretty bland. it was small like a baby pool and only 2 feet deep. I was expecting a little more as far as the size and depth of the pool. If i went back i would absolutely try to book a private pool. Now it was very neat that a sauna was just steps away from the pool so I didnt have to walk very far in the freezing cold. it was snowing that day so sitting in a pool of hot water with the snow blowing around me was pretty awesome. With that said, the private pools look amazing (only seen pics online) but it is very difficult to book one as they are always sold out.i like that this facility gives you robes, slippers, a towel and a locker at no additional cost. there is ample room to change and of course showers are available.i had a burger and a glass of sake at the restaurant and both were amazing.Overall it was nice but i wish the communal pool was bigger and deeper. I hope to one day go back for a private pool soak
We came for the hot pools and it was a good time. We ended up coming right as a snow storm was coming through so the drive up was sketchy and parking was a bit rough. The pools are outdoors so luckily they had a private changing room right next to the pool. It was actually very nice to be in it as it was snowing and offered a hot/cold experience. I believe it was either an hour and fifteen or an hour and a half. The staff rings you a couple times before your time is up and were very friendly when we asked to check if it was possible to squeeze into dinner (unfortunately it was not). Roughly $250 so not cheap but not crazy for how nice it was. Definitely would go back, but maybe only in the colder months.
Ranking: Bessou, Spring Moon, High Moon, Suigetsu, Full Moon.If youre eating at the restaurant I recommend the tatami table for a group or the bar in the back if its just 1 or 2.
I went here for the first time when visiting my mom in Santa Fe. We got a massage, used the spa facilities, and ate lunch at the restaurant. The massage - just what I needed and perfect level of pressure with Pascal. I was on cloud nine when I finished my appointment. The facilities are beautiful and the ambiance was perfect - with impressive wood work, a snowy landscape, koi ponds, etc. I loved the Japanese robes and the matcha roasted rice tea. The bathrooms/changing stalls were clean and the products smelled great were gentle on my skin and hair. The service was friendly and comforting. Lunch was really special. We sat outside in a warm tent overlooking the Santa Fe mountains. I am a dairy free vegetarian, and the selection was plentiful. The sesame noodles were delicious, but I thought for presentation, black sesame would look better on squid ink noodles. The mushroom medley was divine. The cucumber avocado salad was so flavorful, and the portion was generous. The crab rice balls did not have enough crab, and I’d skip that dish for something else. I had a yuzu marg with a really delicious yuzu sugar rim (and yes I was licking the rim to make sure I didn’t miss any.) Our server was excellent (can’t remember his name, but he wore his hair up and had turquoise streaks.) His back server was also very helpful. My only complaint is that the services are a little pricey and inaccessible.
It’s rare for something with such a strong reputation to live up to the hype. I could not be happier with our experience and the peaceful tranquility of it all. Thank you all.
I was a frequent patron of ten thousand waves for many many years before Covid-19 I would visit twice monthly and get the day pass to use commune facilities it was $24 and through the years the prices slowly went up with in reason a couple of dollars and pre Covid the day rate was just under $30 dollars to be expected cost of doing business price increase it was reasonable and not ridiculous! Now post Covid 2024 it has become ridiculously greedy and out of control it’s NOW $62 dollars for 90 minutes greedy SOB! I would rather take my business to Ojo Calente!!!
Well curated Japanese retreat in Santa Fe. We loved the restaurant and delighted in trying new things.
Best Japanese Spa in America. Everyone needs to try 10,000 waves at lease once. All day access to the Grand Bath and Sauna come with a massage or hotel room. Don’t miss the grand bath. The massages are fairly expensive but worth it. Best massage therapists I have ever been to.
I visited this place yesterday with a friend in search of a authentic bowl of Ramen and even though we didnt find ramen, we found something even better. When we arrived the area was beautiful even in the winter. We got inside and the atmosphere was great, the kind lady in the front was nice to see if she could squeeze us in because this is mainly a reserve to eat type deal. She squeezed us in within 10 minutes. We were sat at a small booth accommodated for two, the tables were set us beautifully and they poured us wayer and let us look over the menu. We were poured water and our very great waitor Jon or John even teached us about the restaurants and its authentic foods. After we decided what we wanted we ordered, we ordered a hot pot and were moved to a larger table for safety purposes. The waiter was very professional about our safely. And when the food came out not only was it stunning, but it was soo good, so flavorful and filling. This was one of the best experiences in a restaurant. Thank you! thank you staff and workers for makimg my experience the absolute best. Cant wait to go back!
The experience was amazing!! The hot tub was very relaxing, and many amenities were available. Nice teas were offered, and the staff were ver welcoming. There was a foot bath, relax room, personal showers, and an unlimited amount of towels and slippers. The personal hot tub, cold plunge, and sauna were great, and the experience was centering.
First visit for my husband and me... we will most definitely be back. The property is not like any other I have been to - its more of a relaxation destination than a hotel with a spa - but very close to town in case you need that stimuli! :) Entire experience was amazing and wishing I would have added another service! Warm water foot-soaking area, enclosed relaxation room with beautiful music piped in, public as well as private hot bath areas are all part of the experience. Dinner at Izanami was incredible (and Im usually not a fan of Asian cuisine). Our Blue Moon room (more like a villa) was impeccable. The only negative for me was no fitness center. So if you need to get a workout in, you will not have that opportunity while you are here...something the property should strongly consider creating for their clients who are at least staying onsite. Looking forward to the next time we can experience Ten Thousand Waves!**In response to the owners reply about the trails surrounding the facility. There are many trails - my husband and I are avid hikers - however, inclement weather and altitude can affect some travelers not acclimated to the elevation. A small fitness center would prove to be useful for many guests staying onsite as well as a possible additional revenue stream...aka small resort fee of $10-$15 for use of a fitness facility.
My 3 girlfriends and I stayed at High Moon for 3 nights, and the lodging exceeded my expectations. The bedding was very comfortable, and I loved the kimonos and haori jackets that we could wear around the resort. Also, I think every toilet on site is one of those Japanese bidets which is a huge plus, although I wish it came with some directions. I had read another review that said the breakfast bento was too light, but it was plenty of food for us and delicious to boot. Our kitchen came with a Keurig machine for coffee and an electric kettle & really good green tea bags. There seemed to only be 4 sets of all the dishware and utensils, but we found that housekeeping would wash any dishes we left in the sink which was nice. Two of us had massages (I had a shiatsu massage with Karma), which were excellent but definitely not the cheapest. We booked the New Wave hot tub suite for one night and really enjoyed the privacy and large sauna. I used the Grand Bath probably twice a day otherwise, and never found it crowded (sometimes we were even the only ones there!). It was really nice to have access to the Grand Bath throughout our whole stay, which is really the reason we stayed there. We also had dinner at Izanami one night and everyone was very impressed with the quality of the food.I think the only thing I wasn’t prepared for was how hard it would be to climb all the steps in the high altitude (coming from someone that lives at sea level), but it was worth it.
My Wife and I just spent our honeymoon here. It was incredible. We stayed in the Sailor Moon suite and it was perfect. Room service was on point. The food here is smart delicious. The spa is so relaxing and the grounds make you feel like youre in a bath house in the mountains of Japan. Spa cat was an incredible host. He came to visit every day in the morning and at night for cat naps. I highly recommend this place for anyone looking to get away and relax!
Dinner and a soak. Massage services available plus a gift shop with quality items and bathrobes for soaking. The outdoor jacuzzi is really nice and especially beautiful warming in winter as it snows. Costs are somewhat prohibitive to make it a regular visit. For tourists its like a dream. Ask about local discount if you live in NM or in Santa Fe.
Truly relaxing spa experience. The steps up to the spa are lit up by lanterns, which increases your anticipation for the spa experience waiting up top. You enter and immediately are surrounded by soothing sounds of cascading water from the little fountains they have set up in the spa. We had a private hut tub suite rented with a cold plunge pool, sauna, and attached shower. I greatly enjoyed the views of the mountain sprinkled with snow while relaxing in the hot tub. The staff were so nice, and the entire place smells amazing. 100% would love to return and immerse myself in this spa experience again.
Not sure what to add that hasnt already been said about this place. They have really taken the art of Japanese relaxation to a great level. I went to Japan this year and was inspired to go because of this place in fact. I would say this location is nicer than most Onsen in Japan that I visited. They continue to improve the property you can see some construction still happening. We stayed at the small apartment called Bessou. It is at the lower half of the property. There are a great number of steps to climb to get up to the spa I will say and in a robe it gets a bit chilly in the winter. Parking is at a premium up at the spa as there is a restaurant next to it.
We rented a private hot tub suite. It was the most relaxing time we had on our vacation. The suite was clean and quite large. The hot tub was the perfect temperature, the sauna was incredible and the cold plunge pool was a welcomed addition. The cold plunge might be difficult for some but it isnt really much different than lake Michigan in June.Prior to the appointment we enjoyed walking around and using the foot soaking tub. Its a bit deeper than the ones I had experienced in the past but if you have been hiking its an amazing way to relax your feet.
I had an 80 minute treatment with Kai. It was hands-down, the best massage I’ve had in my life. I felt cared for, nurtured, and healed. Kai gave me the time and space I needed to recover post treatment and listened to my needs prior to the massage. The surprise seated ending was amazing. The spa is beautiful, the atmosphere is relaxing, and there is ample accommodation for refreshing afterwards. I am already looking for an opportunity to come one last time before I return home…kudos to 10,000 Waves~ and to Kai.
Very nice, unique Japanese themed day spa. They offer a wife array of massages; all of which gain you access to their grand bath, quiet room, and foot soaking bath. I would suggest 1.5-2 hours for use of the spa facilities, but you won’t need much more than that unless you just want to spend more time relaxing. We did not opt for the private baths as the day we were there wasn’t very busy and the community grand bath was greta enough for us. My massage was wonderful. Laura did an amazing job working out my stress! Great place for teenagers too.
Wow. Incredible. Food is delicious and unique. The spa is unreal, one of the best Ive ever visited. The people were so kind and hospitable, the massage was perfection. Clean, comfortable, and just what we needed.
The Japanese spa experience was truly enchanting. From the moment I stepped in, the ambiance set a serene and calming tone. The traditional decor was beautiful, and the staff were so warm and welcoming. My favorite part was the hot stone massage, which was incredibly relaxing. After the treatment, I indulged in a soak in the Onsen pool, which was soothing to both my body and mind. The overall experience left me feeling refreshed and rejuvenated. I would highly recommend this Japanese spa to anyone looking for a unique and rejuvenating experience.
The spa here is amazing. Very calming place with lots of areas to relax. Grand bath with cold plunge is a nice warm community tub that is large and spacious. The relaxation room is quiet and calm. The massage therapists are first rate. This facility is a place to spend several hours and just unwind and relax.
We went for a spa day, and really hated the spa’s common areas. It’s like a waterpark, no proper changing rooms just public restrooms to change in and metal lockers to stash your stuff. Crowded dirty hot tubs. Only go if you can get the private rooms - those appear to be the only ones they care about making nice. I’ve been to way way nicer spas for the money.
We did the 90 minute Ichiban hot tub. Very friendly staff, everything is provided such as a pitcher of ice water, kimono robes, shampoo, conditioner and shower gel for your post hot tub shower. The tubs are small so my husband took one and I took the other. Very relaxing and peaceful. There is also a napping room in your suite. There is also a Drybar hair dryer for after your shower, and an outside shower is included as well. The spa is located on a hill so there is a lot of uphill walking from parking to the spa. We enjoyed the hot foot bath while we were waiting beforehand for the hot tub private room. Value for your money 5/5.
OMG! This place is a Japanese gem in middle of forest! We were there just for small dinner and drinks and loved it! Very well organized and clean and quiet specially there was no music at dining room ( I love it ) and costumer service was as amazing. You can’t believe how fresh was their fish . They also have more than 50 different sakes ,actually you can have sake flights too! Owner of business came to us and we had a friendly chat with him ( he is funny) and told us about freshness of fish ! I can tell this place is one of the so few best places in New Mexico. Pretty soon we will go to try their spa and food again . Just 5🌟!
Best Spa Day I ever had. Tub rooms, Massage and first facial! Lunch was full of great new tastes and flavors! Beautiful Location.
I went there to relax, but I left enraged. Wheres the men only tub? I paid the same price for 2/3 of the experience. Sexism at its peak.Edit: why should I have to pay extra for a mens tub when women get one for free? What a joke.Overall nice facility. For women.
Amazing. I come here once a year. The rooms, the atmosphere, the staff... Everything is 10/10
Today March 19th, my friends and I went in for a girls day and to receive a massage. The place is great! But I am SO DISAPPOINTED in the massage I received. My friends came out and explained how much they loved there’s and everything that was done and I received none of that! I am so disappointed because the massages here aren’t cheap at all! And to not receive what u paid for truly is disappointing. I expressed my feelings to the lady at front desk checking us out and basic did not care or do anything at all. I definitely will not return here ever again.
If I could rate this 0 stars I would. I came with my girlfriends, we had booked this months in advance for our girls trip. Some of us getting facials, some of us getting massages. Everything was great until all of my friends were called for their appointments and I was left sitting for 45 minutes waiting to be called. Finally the manager came over to tell me that my facialist didn’t show up. They offered to get me into a massage but couldn’t until later that day. My friends and I had one car so obviously I couldn’t stay. I asked if we could get sushi at the restaurant instead but he said my friends couldn’t join and there was only a spot for me. Why would want to go sit and have sushi by myself when I have 8 other people with me, we even asked for a smaller table of 4 and that couldn’t be done. He then gave me a gift card that expired in a year (I wasn’t sure the next time we’d be back if ever) so instead of hoping we’d make another trip to Sante Fe, my friends had the great idea of spending the gift card on items in the gift shop as they had a ton of great brands. I picked out products equaling up to the gift card and brought it to the front. The manager told me that the gift card wouldn’t be set up for two days so I couldn’t use it. My friends asked him if they could charge it two days later so I could still get the products and he said no. He was VERY rude and dismissive. One of the worst customer service experiences.
My partner and I stayed there for 2 nights and he booked me the Cannibliss massage for my birthday. The location was beautiful and very relaxing. However, I had a really strange and unsettling experience with the massage which is the main reason for my low rating. We stayed there in May earlier this year, but three months later I still think about the massage because it was so disturbing.I believe his name was Scott who gave me the massage. Scott was courteous but throughout the massage I noticed there were many awkward pauses in between. Example: he would remove the thin blanket from my leg, leave it exposed to the air for 30 seconds-1 minute, recover my leg with the blanket, lift the blanket again a little bit later, then proceed to massage. I couldn’t figure out if he was just getting more massage oil or if he kept forgetting what he was supposed to be doing. This happened more than 30 times, I stopped counting. It was not a relaxing experience because I became vigilant of where he was and what he could be doing since he was pausing so often. The final coffin in the nail, was at the end of the massage. He had taken out my bikini that I had hung up and wrapped it in a towel - he made it seem like it was a courtesy service but I’ve never had any spa touch or remove my personal belongings without asking me. But that wasn’t the creepy part. I’m obviously naked underneath a thin white sheet. He told me to roll over. I did, and proceeded to get up. But he slid his arm underneath my knees and the back of my head and when i protested, he shushed me and told me to “let him do the hard work” before cradling me to his chest. Yes, while I’m completely naked and vulnerable, he pulled me to his chest and almost lifted me off the massage bed. Why was that necessary? Why was he finding ways to keep touching me? He did not ask me if he could assist me or if I needed assistance. At that moment, I was acutely aware that I was a naked very petite young woman in an isolated room alone with an older stronger and bigger man. That did not feel good. It felt predatory and was the complete opposite of a relaxing experience. I may go back for the hot springs, but I will not be booking any massage again.
AJ the best massage therapist!Beautiful spa. I will return!
Best spa experience we have ever had, hands down. An amazingly well-designed, peaceful setting. My husband and I started with a 90 minute private hot spa experience, followed by an amazing Shiatsu massage. Heaven. We topped it off with a great lunch at their onsite restaurant, Izanami. Not cheap, any of it, but all well worth it.
A gorgeous, relaxing and nature-filled visit to Ten Thousand Waves this evening. I have been to Japan and many private spas and hot springs before and this private bath was the best experience I’ve had in the US. We had booked a private bath in the traditional Japanese onsen and upon arrival they provided us with kimonos to change into alongside slippers. There are lockers in the changing area to store items and they provided white baskets to bring other items to the bath/spa.We waited in the rest area where we enjoyed hot matcha genmaicha and a relaxing foot tub area next to a koi pond. I recommend arriving at least 30 min earlier to enjoy the scenery, rest area (with quiet relaxing music), tea and foot soak so you won’t feel rushed to your spa appointment. The spa and resort is built with Japanese style architecture and garden areas. The onsen private bath had a private tub alongside a sauna and seated bathing areas alongside a private rest room and bed/napping and resting area. The evergreen shampoo and body wash provided in the bathroom was so pleasant in scent. I brought my own face mask, mint essential oil and hair shampoo and conditioner to use as well alongside moisturizer and hair products as there was a location to dry hair (with a hairdryer) and get ready post private bath. Well worth the time. The 90 min was plentiful relaxation time.Main downside today was the service was lacking - they did not notify us 15 min prior to the end of our bath and we checked time ourselves. They did not notify us where the drink station/tea were at the beginning when we waited and we found out ourselves after seeing other guests drinking tea.Overall a relaxing time in a peaceful environment with authentic Japanese tea and bathing experiences.
We reserved the Shoji private tub, which was lovely and very private. However, the folks before us had the water temp turned down and it was never actually hot for us so we spent more time in the sauna. Very friendly staff, didn’t have any trouble checking in, making our reservation or finding parking.
This was an amazing place to go and relax in hot tubs. The whole experience was wonderful.
We visited Santa Fe for a quick getaway and had a very peaceful experience at 10,000 Waves. At check in, we were told about Avi the spa cat, who ended up visiting us after our evening massage treatments. He made our stay!My massage therapist was phenomenal! He truly listened to my needs and delivered a beautiful session. I floated back to our room afterwards.Cant wait to come back.
Hands-down, the coolest spot experience of my life.First and foremost, the location is phenomenal. It’s nestled in the mountains just outside downtown Santa Fe, but you feel like you’re in another world. The architecture is unbelievable. Our group rented out one of the baths, which very easily accommodated 10 of us. We bounced back-and-forth from the hot tub to the cold plunge pool, and then into the sauna. The views from the hot tub were amazing, as our area had a wire fence that allowed us to stare out at the surrounding beauty.Several folks from our group got massages, which they said were the best they had ever received. If you’re looking for rest, relaxation and pampering while you’re in Santa Fe, this is your place!!!
Check in definitely left a bad taste in my mouth - having spent the amount of money and time to get here, having to carry our fifty pounds of luggage and hand luggage across what seemed like 200 steep stairs was really just quite disappointing, especially after having called and talked to reception and notifying them of our luggage situation. Being told that it is drivable would have saved me and my partner so much disappointment and pulled shoulder muscles to get up to what is supposed to be a “relaxing” getaway. The front desk was unapologetic through this exchange and just denied that they were who we talked to when we rang the telecom. Sad.Edit: biggest spider in the room!!!!
Awesome! Amazing! As always we love coming here. Thank you to the amazing staff for taking great care of us on Cass birthday.
I booked two massages for me and a friend and had an afternoon of soaking. The soaking was great but the massages felt phoned in. They were extremely pricey and not worth the money. I left feeling really disappointed and robbed. Also, ten thousand waves never reached out to me after asking how I enjoyed their spa. Both me and my friend work in the spa and resort industry and we’re appalled at their level of quality for the prices we were paying. High prices set high expectations and they were not met. I’m not sure I’ll be returning again and certainly not going to have a treatment here again
We went for the spa, it was wonderful. Didnt want to leave.
Came with my girlfriend for a private soak. The property is beautiful and the amenities are top notch. The private soak areas have a large hot tub (probably large enough to comfortably fit 6 to 8 people), a private sauna, private bathroom with shower, a cold dip tub, and filtered water tap. The area had the perfect amount of dappled shade, and a view of part of the mountainside.90 minutes was the perfect amount of time to fully relax and get to enjoy everything. We arrived about an hour early and we were able to use the foot bath and meditation room before our soak. The gift shop has a lot of unique Japanese and health/beauty items. Its definitely worth a walk through.I plan to return for another deeply relaxing day.
...if youve not been recently, The Waves has evolved into a world class destination...the drive through the well planted grounds takes you to another place, Japan?, yes a larger restaurant with fab views, very interesting food, etc. But its the grounds that really set the tone, take a walk up steps to spa...
It was a great experience! I booked a private hottub experience. My husband was supposed to come with me, but backed out. Im SOO glad I went! The private hottub was fabulous, with the cold plunge, dry sauna and bathroom. Ah-mazing! Then I took time to enjoy the foot soak and meditation lounge before my 80 minute massage. Masseuse, Jesse (female), was awesome. I get massages at least 2 times a month and she was great. Perfect pressure and worked the areas I indicated needed assistance. If I ever went back, it would be an amazing girls weekend getaway/treat.
We spent two days there, we booked the private hot tubs on the day we arrived, and bought the spa products we like. Everything else was great until I got two charges after I checked out, $26.50 on the day I checked out and $60 the following day. One of my friend really likes the conditioner, so she took it and she was willing to pay if theres any charge for that. So when I first received the notification for $26.50, I was not paying attention, I thought that was the charge for the conditioner. Then I got the second charge of $60 the next day. The first time I contacted them, they claimed it was charges for shampoo and conditioner, and a USB charger. Later, I was informed that was for conditioner, lotion and a USB charger. I called several times for detailsand investigation request, but they kept transferring me to other department without answerring phone calls, no response afterwards. None of us knows what that USB charger looks like and where it was. This is the first time that I have received extra charges after checking out, and it is insane they put on extra charges for something we should not be responsible for. Definitely not going back again!!!
My Wife and I celebrated our 2 year anniversary at Ten Thousand Waves and Izanami. The cuisine was amazing, everything we ordered was flavorful and delicious and our waitress Christine gave us flawless service. The entire experience was relaxed and beautiful and all of the staff was pleasantly accommodating. We booked the Ofuro Room with a private tub, sauna, Japanese style shower and cooling room. Everything was clean and delightful. Perfect for our romantic getaway. We will certainly be regular visitors in the near future.
We absolutely loved our relaxing private pool experience here! My girlfriend and I drove to Santa Fe from Denver in 2021, but did not stay at the on-site lodging (so I cannot accurately comment on the rooms). However, I can comment on the private pool, which was Fantastic! As you can see from my attached photos, the pool itself was long and luxurious. Being tall, it was nice that I could fully stretch out fully. There was also a traditional coal-fire sauna included in the room, which we thoroughly enjoyed. Additionally, there were private bathrooms and showers, and a sitting / lounging area with an open view of the beautiful nature surrounding, and a pitcher of ice cold drinking water was provided. We were a bit unsure how it would play-out during COVID times, but the grounds were clean and regularly disinfected, and the staff at 10,000 Waves were professional and helpful in clearly explaining the rules to us when we arrived.I would definitely like to return again and recommend 10,000 Waves for anyone looking for a relaxing getaway.
My friend and I stayed at Ten Thousand Waves in the Hangetsu room recently. The room was clean and nicely designed with a small fridge/tea boiler/coffee maker/bidet. The entire campus of the hotel and spa is aesthetically lovely and is very green and lush. The grand bath is peaceful and hot with a dry sauna and small cold pool next to it, though offers minimal seating. The staff was nice, and the spa service (hot stone massage) was quality. The restaurant is also quite good, and is well worth the price!I had a nice time here, but feel I would like to share a review because given the price of the room/spa there were a few things that really disappointed me about TTW.First, the hotel is not very physically accessible. Luckily, my friend and I could navigate this however the pool doesnt have stairs or much of anything to hold onto getting in and out, and there are lots of stairs around. We had to carry our luggage up and down a few flights of stairs to get to our room and the hotel did not offer to help with this. The elevator to the spa was out of order while we were there. When walking up the stairs from the lot to check-in we noticed signs listing how many calories you would burn walking to the lobby which I though was distasteful and not eating disorder friendly/conscious.Second, the hotel has a cat that lives there and goes in and out of the room (if you let it). This was an issue for me because I have cat allergies that were triggered in our room. I was disappointed this wasnt shared up front, as I may have chosen to stay elsewhere and just visit for the spa.Third, the free breakfast was really disappointing. It was worse than your average Holiday Inn continental breakfast. The first say we received yogurt, a cold slice of quiche, fruit, a box of almond milk, and some granola that had a sulfurous flavor. The next day we received a half sized yogurt which was shoved in a container with the granola and fruit pre mixed and soggy.Fourth, this is a dog friendly hotel which I could be down with except that whoever was next to us had a dog that was incessantly barking. It must have been triggered by small noises because we heard it barking on and off day and night.Lastly, they dont offer filtered water in the room. There are glass bottles in the room filled with tap water, and the tap water has an awful taste that you cant even hide when using it to make tea.Overall, it was pretty here but I would not stay here again. It wasnt worth the price. We really enjoyed Hotel Santa Fe down in the city. I would come back for the day to use the spa/restaurant.
A day here was a gift from my son and his partner and what a lovely gift it was! The grounds and architecture are a feast for the eyes, beautiful and relaxing. The food at the restaurant (at my awesome server’s suggestion, I had the cucumber avocado salad - oh wow!). The environment in the spa is so beautiful and conducive to relaxation and the massage therapist I saw provided the best massage I’ve ever had. Highly recommend Kala. If you have a chance to get to this spa, allow yourself a full day, you’ll be glad.
We came here mainly for the spa. The guest room was so popular and sold out very quickly, but going to spa only is also a great experience. The staff is friendly, they will kindly tour you around. The room is clean and private, we had a wonderdul and relaxing experience. The decoration is very Japanese style, good for taking photos.
The food was delectable, service impeccable, and the gardens create the most beautiful atmosphere. You feel as though you have been transported to Japan! We also loved the gift shop of imported candies, teas, and dishes. The only thing I do not recommend is the matcha dessert, none of us liked it. Everything else was amazing though!
Unbeatable Santa Fe spa experience. Everything about 10K brings you down to earth and back into your body. The baths are the best part. Imagine soaking outside, eyes closed, in glorious warm water. You feel something cold on your face, only to open your eyes and realize that it’s snowing. You look around and see a few deer walking through the forest beyond the fence next to you. Where else would you find an experience like this?
We’re here near the end of the year, so it’s expected to be quite cold up here. Each room here is quite an isolated property, so you’ll have to walk out there in the open in order get to the lobby, spa, or restaurant. They do provide free shuttle upon your request as another option. Their whole campus was actually really beautiful, so even in the cold, you might want to take some time to walk in the snow to appreciate the view and the vibe. It absolutely worth it!
Such a unique spa for New Mexico, in the best way possible. It wasn’t too big or crowded, and each massage room was its own little hut. It was peaceful and beautiful, and the Japanese architecture and decor was beautiful.
Amazing! We stayed in 1/2 moon which had a private courtyard and was off the main path, meaning no one walking by your room to go to the spa/dinner. The room was lovely and they had a nice little set up for our dog. Its also next to a small parking lot which is great for loading in/out of the car. Nice amenities in the room like robes, wet bar, fridge, coffee/tea and home made granola.Yes, it is a little tricky to find the entrance to the spa to check in when you first arrive (they could have a few more arrows), but after that the rest is easy. We enjoyed the large soaking pool many times. The restaurant is not to be missed. We will be back!
Closing the communal pool killed the real 10k Waves. Now they make you pay $58 for 1.5 hours in a small pool. We used to visit once per year, it was a favorite holiday tradition. We will not be going back. Sad.
Enjoyed this spotlessly clean spa. Friendly, professional masseuse Eddie. Restaurant meal was tasty, although part of our meals order was placed very late (items are ordered piecemeal). $$$
We got a private tub with sauna and bathroom. It is about 80 dollars per person for 90 minutes, yes a bit pricy but the service is good and it is clean.
We enjoyed all of it. We spent 2 nights, had a massage, private tubs and open hot tub. All was great including the staff. The later brings me to the restaurant where we had reservations. The food and its presentation was sumptuous. Not Japanese but deserves 5 stars. However, one of our reservations made months ago was for the Tatami table. My mistake was thinking the website looked like there was a hole for your feet, there is not. I cant sit like that. I was told there was not ANY possibility of another table inside but finally they offered to set up a table behind a partition where construction was happening during the day. It was quiet, a great server and we were ok. However, when we left about 7:20 there were at least 10 tables still empty. Then when waiting for the shuttle some people came in without a reservation. She told them she could fit them in but would need to put tables together. Figure that one out.
Talk about knowledgeable staff and amazing food. This place is a must to see and eat at..Walk the grounds if you have time. Great time.
The private spas (we were in Ichiban) is unlike anything we’ve ever experienced! Luxurious, secluded, romantic, and relaxing! Can’t say enough good things about this place.
They earned the 2 because the property is really pretty. They lost the 3 because for an establishment selling relaxation they are missing the mark with stressed and rude staff. The vibe the staff are giving off is anything but relaxing, especially when it comes to the checkout process. The lady at the checkout desk was really unfriendly and left us not wanting to return.
This is an absolutely amazing place and if you get the chance stay overnight in one of their bungalows. It’s really special and a calming healing environment.
Absolutely amazing, go and have fun you wont regret it
Absolutely amazing here! Our family booked a private pool after skiing Santa Fe. We loved the quiet, private experience. Everything was perfect. After our private pool we ventured to the public pool. Since tops are optional we didnt stay long with our 12 y/o son.
My whole life has led to the incredible bliss that comes with 90 minutes in a private soak and lunch at Ten Thousand Waves. Vaccines required for peace of mind. The bidet is the most amazing bidet Ive ever experienced. The design of the entire facility is incredibly beautiful in its intention. I will be spending a day here every time i visit my sister in Santa Fe. The eggplant was perfect. One of the best days of my life. I look forward to returning.
Divine experience. If I lived here, Id go every week. Booked first available and was given the Shoji bath. Beautiful and spacious set-up with jetted hot tub, cold plunge, sauna, and full bath. They provide toiletries, hair dryer, robe, towels and a pitcher of ice water. The tub and plunge pool are open to the outdoors and overlook an area with trees. Its private, peaceful and very romantic. We were allowed to bring our dog, and even though she hates water, she loved hanging out with us on the deck.I dont normally enjoy saunas but this one was terrific. A large window at the top framing a beautiful tree and water to pour over large hot stones and create a bit of steam. We both felt completely relaxed after this experience. Highly recommend it.
Reserve your private tub room early as the reservations for tubs are in high demand. If you want to relax, detox, rejuvenate, and reset, then I highly suggest a trip to Ten Thousand Waves.
Had a spa day and was super impressed. Better than anything I have ever had before and the whole experience was phenomenal. The community bath was relaxing and lovely to use before my massage. The people helping at check in were so nice and so helpful. The service was on point. The massage was really just amazing and everything I could have wanted. Honestly so worth it for the price. Cannot wait to try the restaurant!
Loved almost everything about this place. Sauna is great with a little working of the water on the rocks it gets really hot. Cold plunge is really cold! Shiatsu massage from Vally (spelling of the name might be wrong), a German woman, was out of this world. Do yourself a favor, if paying premium price, request a premium masseuse! The only what I didnt like is their restaurant. Over hyped. I was not thrilled with my food (bibimbab) and service (a server was not dressed well, was forgetting what I ordered, at the end just disappeared, not right type for specialty place like this), left me with not a good feeling at the end, though half a day in a spa with stellar massage was wonderful.
10000 waves is an incredible, beautiful, relaxing Japanese spa. From the moment you arrive, you are welcome and more relaxed. The private tubs are a great place to visit with friends and family or just to take a time out! Massages, facials, and so many treatments are also available.
On of the best hotel experience I’ve ever had. The rooms are cozy and calm, the restaurant is delicious and the treatments are spectacular. Can’t wait to go there again.
Note: Bring your own toiletries, only shampoo, conditioner and body lotion provided.Very beautiful property, came highly recommended. The communal pool was closed which was sad, but these things happen. I got a lovely massage. My problem really is with the bathroom/changing facilities. The changing rooms are narrow hallways, mixed gender, tight quarters. You get ready in 1 of 2 bathrooms that include showers so the puddles of the last person are waiting for you (no bathmats). It is a pretty uncomfortable experience for a fancy spa.And the gross part - that is your warning - is the low flo toilets 😬 No one wants to leave an odor for the next person, esp when the bathroom is also the shower and changing room, and theres someone waiting to go in after you. Sitting for 5m waiting for the toilet tank to refill so you can leave a clean space for the next person who just wants to put on their bathing suit is not an elevated spa experience.
Just a tremendous time here when we went last month. The private bath experience was a real treat and the grounds are amazing. Everybody was very attentive and the entire place was clean as a whistle. If you opt for a massage, I highly recommend Sundown as your therapist. The best deep tissue massage I think Ive ever had.
Our initial entry to the spa was not welcoming like we are used of. We encountered a gentleman with a mullet like hair cut that seemed bothered by our arrival. The attendant usually offers to come and get us when our tub is ready, this person had us go back to the counter to check if our tub was ready. There was no discount offered at check out even if we were guests less than 6 months prior and our info was still in the system. He was unwilling because we didnt have our punch card on hand.We went to our reservation at the Izunami restaurant and were again greeted by an unfriendly hostess in a headwrap. We waited about 20 minutes even if we had a reservation. We were sat at a small table, and my Husband is a big guy so we asked to move. The hostess was reluctant and said she had no where to seat us because the 4 tops were saved for larger parties. The savior KAZ came to our rescue and turned our whole night around. He was friendly and so welcoming. He was an absolute delight. I may be mistaken, but If I didnt know better Id say you they have some racist individuals working at Ten Thousand waves. Or maybe because we had come from the spa and werent in business attire we were not welcomed....? We still spent an obscene amount this evening and for the price we pay we should at least feel welcomed?? Thank you Kaz for taking care of us and treating us like customers.
I like the private spas. We had a New Wave, sauna hot tub, cool pool, waterfall. With shower and bathroom. I think it is one of the most relaxing experiences. Next trip to Santa Fe, you must book a spa and than go to their restaurant for an authentic Japanese experience.
A truly amazing experience - the private tub/sauna suites are something Ive never seen anywhere else, and were wonderful. It truly felt as if I had been transported to Japan. The price is incredibly reasonable - Ive paid more than half the price for much less luxurious facilities.
Outstanding dinner for four. The environment was quiet. we had asked for a quiet area. The staff remarkably friendly and helpful. The food was superblys. prepared. we had goma-ae,ebi tempura, and sweet pea + shiso croquettes. i made a reservations forbefore the opening of the stana fe chamber 50th opening season
Staying at ten thousand waves was the best experience!!! The customer service is gold standard!!! Nancy really helped us out in a pinch and we couldn’t be more grateful! We booked the ichiban tubs that they nicknamed the two teacups. It was such nice time! We got to shower like the Japanese people did back in the day. Bucket and seat - then we split our time in the sauna. I never felt so relaxed and rested after soaking! The rooms were so cozy! I love the heated floor in the rooms. We dined at the restaurant and everything was pretty good! It all came out super fast and we purchased a bottle of sake to enjoy in our room! It was 5+++ stars in my book and we can’t wait to come back and visit!!!
What a magical experience! The vibe of this place is exactly what my body and soul needed. Besides being beautiful and well taken care of every personnel was so pleasant. I had the cannabliss massage from Aspen and myyy goodness, it was magical! My body felt AMAZING afterwards. She recommended i try the sauna after and she was totally right i was in total bliss. Thank you!!!!
This is a hard review to write, because I really want to love this place and I am glad that such a place exists.First, Ill say upfront that most of the low ratings for this place are due to COVID-19 vaccine mandates and/or mask requirements. I have no issues with either of these so this did not impact my rating in any way. These policies are all clearly stated on their website, while booking a room and/or service, and the staff followed up before my arrival to ensure I understood and to check if I had any questions.I stayed in Ten Thousand Waves for 2 nights with my partner and here are my observations:The great:- The room and grounds were very lovely and unique. All the custom wooden structures and elements around the property add a very nice touch.- The rooms were laid out in a way to ensure maximum privacy and I could not hear any other guests during my entire stay.- There is a small fireplace and firewood available to create a cozy atmosphere at night.- There is free shuttle service between the spa/restaurant and rooms since it can be a bit of a hike.- The staff were always friendly and helpful if we had any questions.- Both my partner and I booked a massage service and both were a 5 star experience. The not-so-great:- The price is extremely high for what you get in terms of amenities. The only things included in the nightly rate are: access to the Grand Tub, access to a sauna room, a small sink outside the lobby to make bagged hot tea, daily granola and Chobani yogurt, and coffee/tea bags in your room.- The shampoo and conditioner in our room, which are of a good quality and sold in their gift shop, were severely watered down when we checked in. I could not believe we had to call the front desk to get them replaced with a properly filled and non-watered down bottle that we could use.- The included breakfast granola in the room was very good, but they did not replenish the half-bag I used but pointed out through a sign in the room that they would re-fill it upon request for an exorbitant per-pound rate.- There is only one place to eat on-site, which is the attached restaurant which I will leave a separate review for but other than that, you have to buy snacks from their gift shop to enjoy while using the facilities.- All of the soaking tubs with the exception of the Grand Tub are private, not included with the nightly rate, and are not discounted for guests.- Massages and other spa services are not discounted either despite the high nightly rate.- There were 2 combined AC and heater units in our room. Both were severely underpowered and that lead to a long wait to get to a comfortable temperature. This is important since the temperature swings greatly while in the mountains.- On our first night we were told the Grand Tub had some issues getting up to temperature and so it was more of a lukewarm tub. We used it again on the second day and third morning before check-out. It was never hot enough to be a fully relaxing experience and we expected it to be more in line with other Korean/Japanese spas we have visited. All in all, I am glad I visited but given the extremely high price for staying overnight, my expectations were sky high and Ten Thousand Waves fell short in too many areas for me to give it a higher rating.EDIT: The owners response for the most part belittles my valid complaints and is misleading (for example - their shower wash is a good product, but the one in my room was filled with water and had to be replaced. And, the granola was not replenished which was my complaint.) I booked the room almost half a year in advance and it was still exorbitantly expensive.
A must if in Santa Fe. Get a private pool and hope it snows. Massages are top-notch. Its not cheap but worth every bit.
I have visited twice - one time for a facial another for a massage. This place is truly lovely. Great for a group, couples, or by yourself. It is pricey but worth it. The relaxing pools and saunas come with cost of your treatment so it’s easy to spend some time here. If possible, eat at restaurant on site
I highly DO NOT recommend staying at this resort and spa. It did not feel like a clean atmosphere in the grand bath, sauna or the foot soak. I saw NO disinfecting or sanitizing in any way while we were there. I did not feel comfortable in the unisex changing and showering area. That should really be an option with female/male rooms also available. The massage was not worth the money, Ill go to Message Envy for a quarter of the price. Our room was set at 80 degrees with a lockbox on the thermostat so we could not adjust it The staff said they will not turn it down and we would have to use the split system to cool it, which did not work. We slept with the windows wide open, 20 degrees outside just to cool the room down. And to top it off the bed is a FUTON!!!! For the price of this room I was expecting a nice pillowtop mattress with high quality sheets, nope not even close. What put me over the top was being billed $50 for taking the shampoo, conditioner, lotion and shower gel that I USED and TOOK... I called to ask about the charge and was told they sanitize and TOP OFF the bottles for the next guest.... EEEWWWWW!!!!! Yuck, the bottles I took are going in the trash. For the cost of this one night at this resort we could have flown to Las Vegas and stayed at a high end good quality hotel. Lesson learned!!
My husband and I just spent an incredible day here for his birthday! The customer service was excellent. At the spa, Buddha Bob, Kaz, and a young man I forgot the name of were accommodating, warm, and welcoming. The server at the restaurant, Mary Beth, was so attentive and made great menu recommendations. In addition to the service, the grounds, pools, and architecture are beautiful. We cant wait to return for another special occasion!
I’ve been to the spa several times and I’ve always had an amazing experience! They have great facilities in a very relaxing and beautiful setting. The staff are welcoming and helpful. Spa services are excellent! The technicians are knowledgeable and professional. Love the relaxation pool, sauna and meditation room. Highly recommend!
Been here a couple years ago, I did a facial spa here and I don’t think I can say this was a pleasant experience for me. The lady did my facial let me know that she was a “CEO” and sold her company and now doing facial is just her “hobby”, she emphasized this the entire conversation in a condescending way. I felt really uncomfortable the entire time and I could not say this is my best experience ever.
This was such a surreal, relaxing experience. I came for a holiday getaway with my partner and had the best massage of my life (courtesy of the very talented Aspen). Their lodgings were booked (understandably so) so we made a day trip out of it from ALBQ and Im so glad we did. We arrived early and spent the morning before our treatments in the grand bath (a luxurious hot tub style sauna) and then hung out in the meditation room after. The staff was kind enough to set us up with reservations at the restaurant on site and boy was it worth it. The salmon sashimi was out of this world! Definitely hope to come back in the future and check out the lodgings! As someone who dabbles in travel writing, I really couldnt ask for a more unique experience if youre into spas, Japanese culture, and/or fantastic asian cuisine.
We stayed here for three nights and had a lovely time. We did the full experience -- lodging, massage, hot tub, and restaurant. In summary, it was all wonderful, there are so many options and nuances be sure to ask questions so you dont miss out. Make note theres almost no cell service! I could occasionally get a signal near the restaurant. But I actually used the landline since I was there over the holidays and wanted to get in touch with friends/family. They do have fantastic wifi if your phone does wifi calling. The room (suigetsu) had heated floors in the bathroom, huge windows that made everything feel open, and simple but elegant decor. I wish we had gone in the spring or fall to really enjoy the enclosed garden, but with the stonework it was still lovely in the winter. The doors within the room were all sliding screens. During our stay breakfast was delivered each day, little breakfast bento boxes, usually with granola and yogurt, sometimes also with a slice of quiche. We were able to find parking close to our room, but it wasnt a reserved spot.We booked massages and werent 100% prepared -- like I was supposed to arrive just in a kimono/yukata for mine (nose to toes), and my partner was supposed to be wearing shirt and long pants (shiatsu) and had to rent a pair of pants. But they were polite and accommodating and nothing was too awkward. There are a LOT of steps to get around the grounds. I dont know if it was a courtesy or if I accidentally requested it and dont remember, but someone actually came to pick us up for our massages! That was a pleasant surprise -- so FYI that its an option you may want to request (or just clarify if its a courtesy) since its uphill to the spa from lodging. We did hot tub immediately after massage which was maybe not the best plan, since I had to wash off all the nice lotion they rubbed in. You go back to the spa checkin and they walk you to the hot tub to show you the individual features. They have a 15 minute warning system so you have time to dry off and get dressed. If anything isnt right, like water temperature, they have an intercom so you dont have to trek all the way down to the desk for help. The restaurant was full of that simple elegance but it wasnt stuffy or overly fancy, as I had been worried -- its Japanese pub style. We didnt come too hungry because we thought we would only have a limited holiday menu to choose from but it turned out we could order from the full menu. So I just had the fried chicken which was not too spicy, just enough to be tasty. Aside from all the saki they have a good range of beers.
Beautiful Japanese setting. We had a private hot pool with a cold deep next to it and a sauna. Very private and enjoyable.
Ten Thousand Waves was recommended to me by two different couples whod been there several years ago. I had only one full day in Santa Fe and booked a massage and facial for myself and my girlfriend a month in advance. 10,000 Waves is about twice as expensive as other quality spas in Santa Fe: youre paying for the surroundings (which are impressive), access to the baths, and, presumably, a first-rate spa.We arrived in the early afternoon for our first two appointments only to find that the masseuse theyd booked us with had called out that day, so I gave up my massage and waited an hour and a half. Then a manager came over and explained that they were also shorthanded for our second appointments and one of us would have to miss out. They comped us the one massage that had taken place and asked if we wanted a discount on future services. Having now wasted our one afternoon in Santa Fe, we declined and went elsewhere.Of course, its not under the spas control whether people call out. Most everybody would rather skip a massage than get one but also get COVID. The trouble with Ten Thousand Waves is that they could have notified us in the morning and didnt. They gambled on being able to pull in somebody at the last minute and it didnt work. At this (or any!) level of service, not communicating with your clients is pretty dodgy, particularly when they book up so quickly and wed made reservations a month before. The one massage that did happen was a good one! Two other issues preclude it from weighing in on the score:The web site is not useful. You cant make reservations online and have to call them. One of the spas to which they ended up referring us had a web site where you could book an individual therapist for a specific service at a specific time. It cost half of what Ten Thousand Waves cost and even with almost no notice, that therapist showed up. Additionally, they promote combinations of services as packages on the web site that dont exist: you end up booking individual services regardless. We asked around later and learned that Ten Thousand Waves used to be a favorite spot for locals but no longer allow them to reserve the baths without also reserving a massage. The masseuse we ended up finding later told us she would go every week until they changed the policy. Thats their prerogative, but if youre going to exclude locals so you can focus on tourists, bailing on their reservation without any notice seems like the worst of both worlds: their system isnt working for people in town or for visitors. As best I can tell, this place used to be great but the prices went way up and the level of service did keep pace.
I have been coming to 10k waves for years and I am sad to see the community feeling of this special place somewhat abandoned. The community tub was a wonderful place for people who live and work in Santa Fe to relax and sit with one another. The women’s tub had a real Japanese onsen feel to it, something I am so glad I got to experience before these new 2023 practices were implemented. Charging significantly more for the option to book 1.5 hours for the exact hours of 7:30-9pm on three weeknights feels like a slight to the community. The co-ed lockers, with no benches, makes the changing process feel a little like a restaurant trying to flip tables. For sure, this place is special, and can charge what it wants… Particularly to keep it exclusive and a “return to the original vision” of it being quiet - but that can also provide a sterile, unwelcoming vibe, especially to those who can’t afford (or don’t want) the $300 facials. Best of luck in this new pursuit - sorry to see these changes, but glad I got to experience it before!
Edited review as they have updated their policies. Always was a wonderful place and happy to be able to visit again. Amazingly beautiful property and the staff is world class.
We dropped by with a party of 13. 7 of us were kids! The staff was very nice, the hot tub was amazing in the freezing night! We had a private hot tub with sauna and loved every minute of it!Very nice and clean place. Just what you need after a day of skiing!
The public areas were really crowded. The private pool we had was fantastic! They have a spacious room with a shower, changing area and a sauna.Room is open air area with a deck that overlooks the grounds. We were there at Christmas. The snow was magical. Getting out of the hot water enjoying the cold then into then the sauna was so invigorating! Loved it.
I went there for a massage ($300 after tax and tip) and it was wonderful. My husband went with me and they said only people getting massages were allowed to go onto the grand baths (we are locals and it didnt use to be this way, maybe Covid changed everything) . He wanted to wait for me while I got my amazing massage. He ended up going downtown instead. My massage was amazing, with CBD lotion and oil I felt like a new person afterwards! Definitely a treat. How wonderful Santa Fe has this type of stuff.
This used to be a great place where you could stop for a soak after a day in the mountains but now you can only get a limited amount of time in an expensive private tub that has to be booked a month in advance, and the communal bathing, which was the best part, is gone. Please consider bringing it back in the future! Facilities, food, and staff are still as good as ever. New private changing rooms are awesome.
Very nice experience! Set aside additional time to enjoy the full amenities. I did not do this and was mad at myself. We received massages, but there is a foot soaking tub, full body soak, and other nice extras to take advantage of.
A beautiful onsen in a beautiful location. If you are looking to book a room or spa treatment I suggest booking 45 days prior to your desired date. This is a really great getaway. The restaurant books quickly. I suggest booking a week in advance to get your reservation. The food is delicious. The staff is very friendly and helpful. The whole experience is really special.
My wife went in for a massage and spa and claimed it was the best massage/spa experience of her life. Worked out knots and muscle issues shed never been able to work out. The look on her face when I picked her up said it all.
One of the best spas in the whole USA. Seriously. The perfect combo of Santa Fe, Kusatsu Onsen, and Cali. Go in the evening as the sun is setting. Winter time, after a day of skiing at SF Basin or Taos? Just heavenly.
This is a beautiful place. The baths are lovely, a good variety of temperatures, and really relaxing. When we went there were multiple communal baths, and they were each different and fun to explore. We each got facials which were so relaxing. Also the restaurant is surprisingly reasonably priced for a tourist attraction in Santa Fe and the food was delicious.
Such a special place. The soaking tub experience was amazing. We loved our private spa. We had a cold plunge, hot tub and sauna. We also had two showers. It’s so peaceful and private. I could see trees from my tub. My partner and I loved it. So relaxing and dinner before at their restaurant is a must!!!
Really enjoy the stay here. The grand bath is wonderful. The room is also very decent. The front desk is friendly but they didn’t handle my delivery package very well. Called in advance to ask front desk to take the birthday follower package to my room. But I got the followers the day after (the followers were just locked in delivery room) which missed the birthday.
My significant other and I had an incredible day at Ten Thousand Waves. We chose the Lunch Special and I couldnt imagine anything more perfect for us. We arrived 30 minutes early and Im so glad we did. We got to shower and relax until our private hot tub was available. It was perfect. It had a hot rocks sauna room, a relax room, and the outdoor tub with a beautiful view of the forest. Then we got to shower before our 80 minute massages, which they were able to do in one room for us. It was the best massage both of us have ever had. Absolutely incredible. Then we showered and dressed for lunch at their wonderful restaurant. Easily the best food we had our whole trip to Santa Fe, with an amazing view of the mountains (sit outside!). I was not a fan of our server, but maybe he was just having a bad day. All in all, it was worth every penny. I cant wait to return!
What an amazing experience! First and foremost they require masks and require proof of vaccination which we love! Thank you for that TTW! The staff is incredibly friendly and helpful they definitely go above and beyond. The room was so clean and beautiful. The food is absolutely outstanding. And the spa experience is unbeatable. We are definitely coming back as much as we possibly can! Perfect in every way!
The last time I was there I was shocked at how they did away with all the cozy charm of cool lobby area. It was all sterile looking and boring. I miss the old fireplace. Thinking it may not have been up to fire code, especially with the cut fir tree jammed up in the rafters 😂
On a recent visit to Santa Fe I enjoyed a day at Ten Thousand Waves, starting with a delightful lunch. The service and the setting were both outstanding but the food stole the show. A real treat. Moving over to the spa extended the experience with a foot soak followed by the best massage to date. Patrick has raised the bar. Everyone was helpful and professional. Great energy.
READ BEFORE BOOKING - AN HONEST REVIEW OF HORRIBLE SERVICE!Dont let the beautiful pictures fool you, the management of this place is absolutely horrible. We gave ten thousand waves four attempts and in each attempt we were met with some aspect of horrible service involving trying to book a stay with them, to trying to schedule a massage to ultimately having them cancel our massage 1 hour before it was scheduled and then on top of it them wanting to charge us 50% of the other massages we ended up needing to cancel because they ruined the experience for us. Ive summarized the highlights of our horrible service so you wont make the mistake of booking with them. They are unreliable, disorganized and ultimately do not know how to take care of their customers, so youve been warned, book at your own risk. For full details of our experience read on....We originally drove up to their location from Albuquerque in February of 2022 to see first hand what we would be booking because we were planning a special birthday weekend for my fifteen year old daughter. My mom and sister were flying in from Oregon specifically for this celebration. Our goal was to book lodging at ten thousand waves so we could all stay on site and enjoy the accommodations without having to travel anywhere else. We were told both over the phone and onsite that lodging was limited (especially for 4 people) and that reservations could not be made until 45 days before our scheduled lodging date. We marked our calendars and called early in the morning 45 days before only to find out wed been misinformed as there was no vacancy as others had already booked the lodging. Strike 1.We then asked about scheduling 4 massages for Saturday, these too had already been booked, even though we were doing as directed and called 45 days before. They told us to call back the next day for Sunday bookings. We called again the next day only to be told there wasnt availability (Strike 2). At this point we told them, wow what a horrible experience you are providing us, so they finally moved some things around and scheduled massages for us, not at the same time as wed originally wanted, but one after the other, not our 1st choice but we tried to be flexible. So, our family flew in for the celebratory weekend, we made other lodging plans in Santa Fe, drove up on Saturday, on Sunday morning as we were all getting ready to go to ten thousand waves, 1 hour before our scheduled massage we were called and told one of our massage appointments would have to be cancelled. After strike 1 & 2 we were through with this place, we told them, please go ahead and cancel the rest of our massages because if we all cant enjoy our time, than it defeats the purpose of us going. We were then told we would be charged a 50% cancellation fee for the 3 remaining massages, totaling over $340. We ended up driving up to ten thousand waves to speak to the manager. I was so traumatized by the horrible experience that Id been planning for months for my daughters 15th birthday that I was in tears and crying and couldnt even talk when we spoke to the manager. My sister had to speak for me and eventually the manager waived the cancellation fee and did offer to schedule a future massage. Too little too late!Obviously this is just our experience but when we made so many attempts by phone, by going there is person and the information we were given was inconsistent all the way through the process, truly how many chances do you give a business before you give up. With the prices they charge you would expect a much higher level of service and organization. So as I said, dont let the beautiful pictures of this place fool you, at the heart of this business is a very poorly run and managed non customer centered organization. BEWARE BECAUSE YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED!!!
Liked it better before the renovation - but too bougie now
We reserved a private spa area which was beautiful and spacious. However, the area had no functioning toilet, shower, or water fountain. We called for service and they asked if we’d like to have maintenance look at it. Obviously yes, so we waited…and waited thinking they were coming inside. 30 minutes later we received a call to notify us the water was fixed. Shortly after we received another call to tell us our time was up. No apology or discount was given. Beautiful space, poor service.
Ok this place was nice... but maybe a little too crowded to have a legitimate relaxing spa atmosphere. It was a Sunday morning, and very difficult to get booked in. I think we called about 4 or 5 days before so make sure you book early. It is a nice place the welcome receptionist was nice, but the check out receptionist was making us feel very judged... it was awkward. Both of me and my husband’s massage therapists were amazing. I am a licensed massage therapist so I feel like I am a little more difficult when people give me a massage but overall it is a nice place for relaxation, but the common areas feel a little over crowded. I don’t think I would come back again, it was a nice time the first time but it wasn’t my favorite place and we spent about $600 for two people 3 treatments each, which is about average for a high level spa experience. I do like that they have signs where everything is so you don’t feel lost... and that they have signs for no photography In the spa area I think it’s important when you are trying to relax and not worry about the outside world. I give 5 stars because for a first time spa experience this is very nice.
Five stars for incredible customer service! My wife and I were at 10,000 Waves several weeks ago for an afternoon of chillaxation and an incredible dinner next door. It wasnt until we were packing up to come home the next day I realized I had left my sunglasses at the spa. Quick phone calls to the spa and restaurant were not productive. However, a week later, the manager called and said the glasses were found and he was happy to mail them to me at their expense. Of course, you never lose the sunglasses you get at the carnival...its only the very expensive prescription transition polarized lenses with a special coating to help with light sensitivity that are the glasses hard to keep up with. And I certainly wouldnt suggest testing out their customer service chops by losing expensive items. But if you are going to misplace something, then make sure its misplaced at 10,000 Waves!
It was overall a nice experience. The only reason I have to dock a star is because the pillows at half moon were ungodly used and worn - I got up every hour to flip the pillow over because it kept losing its fluff. Also the pillows hurt my neck which kind of defeated the purpose of relaxing in the sauna. Also, we booked shoji for a private tub and there was someones hair in it. I understand bugs inside since we are next to a forest but they should at least clean in between appointments for the private tub. It was gross and we had to splash it out :(. The grand bath was cleaner somehow. The staff was incredibly nice and helpful so I thank them for that. I would most likely come again, maybe with my own pillow and to call to make sure they cleaned the private baths before going.
We had the best day here! We did the couples Buddha package and had a private tub, a wrap, and massages followed by drinks and dinner at the restaurant. Everyone here was so helpful and nice to us. We aren’t used to snow so all light, fresh snow was a nice treat! the I think next time we come to Santa Fe we will stay here a night to finish our trip.
Used to live in Santa Fe and frequently went here. Was planning a cross country trip with my wife and so excited to take her to places I had fond memories of. This being one of them.Go to website and get politics thrown in my face on the homepage. Guess I will take my white male cis-gender dollars and go somewhere else. Guess the irony is lost that this goal to be so “inclusive” has resulted in being pretty exclusive.
I felt very taken care of by all the staff at Ten Thousand Waves. From Lodging, to the Spa, to Izanami, my experience was memorable and comfortable. The rooms were gorgeously decorated and luxuriously outfitted. Their Houses of the Moon are some of the best rooms Ive ever stayed in anywhere! They keep them nice and clean and they always leave little Buddha chocolates for you on your bed. I highly recommend the Sailor Moon room for its unique design and its giant shower that can fit six people in it! The spa facilities were well maintained and taken care of, and the treatments were relaxing, refreshing, and revitalizing. The food at Izanami, though a bit on the pricey for the amount they gave you (at least for some of their dishes), was delicious and beautifully displayed! And no matter where I went they always tried to make me feel welcome and at home. I would definitely come back to Ten Thousand Waves, and plan to in the future!
We reserved the New Wave bath house and it did not disappoint. It was such a unique experience and we loved every minute. We cant wait to go back and try out the other bath houses! They also have soaking foot tubs, beautiful grounds to walk around in, and a meditation room for guests.
We were here four years ago for our honeymoon and returned for a few days of relaxation. We are so pleased with some of the post pandemic changes which mostly involved limiting guest numbers a bit more and keeping everything more serene. The staff are all very wonderful and do their best to give you a comfortable stay. Breakfast bento boxes with delicious homemade granola, early morning access to the grand bath, and the ability to roll around from the spa, to izanami and to our room is just a phenomenal way to live for a few days. We will be back in a few years agsin :)
The hot spring water in the hot tub was great for my aches and pains. We had a nice private area with the hot tub, cold plunge which was very cold, sauna, and shower. 90 minutes was just right to try out all of the amenities.
So this review is is due to buddha Bob. My time with him was the worst costumer service experience Ive had in a while. Bob, no matter how upset I am, its your job to say, Im sorry youre disappointed, how can we make this better?, not (in so many words), youre an idiot, book a specific tub. Future guests, please make sure to specify what tub you would like, or you could end up in the Ofuro dungeon tub. Its a really bad tub. Cannot stress this enough. Horrid. Or just go to Ojo for $40 and unlimited soaking time. Thats what Ill be doing until communal tubs return. Pre-pandemic, this place was my favorite, was very disappointed. Looking forward to reading the angry response, ha!Update—just read that they will not be returning to the communal, pre-pandemic ways of the spa. The website states the current “peace” was their original vision—I think it’s to make money, but whatever, they are entitled to that, but I’ll miss the open charm it once had. Im sure the actual original owners would be sorely disappointed. A small tub will be communal but still reserved for 90minutes. In my opinion, 90 minutes is not enough to get what you paid for, even at $58. You can spend an entire day at either Ojo Caliente location for less. I’ll miss you 10,000 waves.
One of the most considerate places I have ever been: everyone is there to help you relax. Japanese politeness is a huge part of everything, and the focus on leaving material goods behind is great. They make sure you have to carry nothing with you, so you can truly get away. Spa treatments are phenomenal, best massage Ive ever had possibly. It is an absolutely gorgeous location. Zen gardens abound everywhere, and its so well made. Also the rooms were amazing, pricey but easily worth it. Finally, Izanami (the restaurant) was incredible, huge sake list and tons of cool Asian fusion small plates.Overall one of my favorite places in the world :)
We loved being able to visit a private hot tub at the spa on our stay in Santa Fe - especially grateful that dogs were welcome, at least in the hot tub we reserved! Top it off with a dinner at Izanami - amazing food, scenery and service.
They have worked hard to keep this a safe and memorable experience. We love the private tubs. They allow your pup in the tub area, too! Several people have recommended the couples massage, but havent done it yet.
What happened to this place? Ladies tub/sauna no longer exists-it was a safe, comfortable haven. Private tub is aged and no heat in freezing bathroom, could not use the sauna due to strong gas fumes. and the railing fell down. Co-ed shower/locker room with no toilet! (Guess what the shower was used for). No longer has the lovely cucumber and lemon water available--big fat headache! Or maybe it was the the gas fumes. Very expensive oil rub--what happened to massage? In the end you are forced to tip not only the therapist, but also the cleaning people whom I never saw, dont they get paid? I am a Santa Fe resident coming to TTW for over 20 years (except last 2 years due to pandemic)--greatly disappointed.
We had a wonderful time at 10,000 Waves. It came highly recommended by the locals and I can see why. The spa had a very traditional Japanese feel, was immaculately clean, and the staff were all welcoming and professional. The temperature of sauna and hot pool were perfect. Price of admission is reasonable given the quality. On a personal note, I left a valuable ring behind in the locker room. The staff was kind enough to search for it, locate it, and ship it to me. This gesture meant so much thank you!
This is my absolute favorite spa in New Mexico. The staff are great, the gift shop has imported goods from Japan and the baths and massages are fantastic! Also, any of the rooms at the hotel are wonderful.
This place is pricey but the shiatsu massage which is a legit Japanese shiatsu got kinks out of my muscles in places I didnt even know I had muscles. We did a private tub as well which was relaxing and the grand bath was a nice hangout after the massage.
Overall, our experience was very good. Out of our 7 family members, all but one had great massages. We had lunch there, and it was delicious! The lavender honey ice cream was divine.Ive been a massage therapist for 18 yrs., and Mark did a wonderful job. My aunt (also a veteran massage therapist), however, did not have a positive experience with the man who gave her a Thai massage. He wasnt responsive to her requests to gradually use deeper pressure. One other surprise that I didnt like was undressing with the therapist in the room. He held up a towel and turned his head while I disrobed. Im not a modest person, and have had many, many massages, and I wouldve preferred him out of the room. Upon reflecting, I shouldve asked him to leave for a minute.Their billing system was confusing. Our lunch bill was supposed to be separated, but they ended up not being able to figure it out, and had to put it all on one persons credit card, and we had to pay that person back individually. The food and service was great, though. The facility was very nice, and we had fun hanging out at the hot tub before our massages and lunch. All the staff was very nice. Id recommend a different billing system, though. And the gift shop was full of cool Japanese inspired items.
We had the most wonderful stay at Ten Thousand Waves in early January. The room was perfect. The staff was delightful. Both private baths that we reserved and the Grand Bath was a relaxing experience. We also enjoyed dinner at the restaurant and were impressed with the quality of food and amazing presentation. We cannot wait to book our next stay.
This place is fantastic. Its a one-of-a-kind experience, and I highly recommend it. I was so caught up in the spa, that it didnt take any photos. Maybe next time. They now have spa, massage, restaurant, and lodging. Theyre booked out six weeks in advance, so better plan ahead! Its well worth the wait and expense.
Very nice place to pamper yourself. We rented a private area with large whirlpool & sauna four group of 6. Very nice treat. My massage therapist was good. The room was next to the walking path & kept hearing the landscapers & other guests chatting away so it wasnt really relaxing.
This place is absolutely gorgeous.. Very Zen.. Amazing views nestled amongst the trees and hilltops. My favorite part was the footbath and and pool area. My massage was just OK. I recommend going and renting a private pool for you and your friends or special someone. Massage not so much. I was not that impressed with my 80 minute massage...so disappointed 😔
Obsessed. This is a really gorgeous and peaceful retreat. Due to COVID times, we opted to reserve a private hot tub area with steaming in ground tub + jets, sauna, cold plunge, bathroom and water fountain. We found that they had thought of everything. It was really private and quiet and I nearly fell asleep multiple times while cooling off - lots of shady trees overhead and nearby. The staff were incredible and I for one was REALLY appreciative of their proof of vaccination policy. While we were relaxing we decided to do lunch afterwards and the front desk helped us make a reservation. Seriously cant rave enough about what a relaxing, lovely experience it was. We had to get on the road but I would have loved to wander around the buildings and gardens more, and also to stay here overnight in the future.
What a TRULY BEAUTIFUL place !!!!We stayed at 10k waves for our “spacation” and were constantly impressed !!The grand bath includes hot tub area cold tub and saua! If your looking for a more affordable way to go, a day pass for grad bath is perfect!!If your ready to fully relax and indulge I can’t recommend staying on the grounds enough! We got a private tub and I had the canabliss massage as ooohhh baby who knew my body could actually relax !My masseuse Morgan did and incredible job! While the full stay was on the expensive side I still think it was worth every penny!!!
We were lucky to get a reservation for the tatami at the Izanami restaurant. You dont need to be staying at the hotel to dine at the restaurant. Our server Keith walked us through the menu and pointed out the vegan options for us. We ended up ordering a tofu bento box, sweet corn kakiage and shichima fries. The food was lovely. The tea that we ordered on the side was ordinary but overall the service and experience was enjoyable.
I was fortunate to stay at Ten Thousand Waves and the spa was no doubt the highlight. I was only able to enjoy the Grand Bath but it was an incredible experience. The waters and its features were perfect. The sauna is also incredible. I can’t wait to return already and check out other baths! The service was also wonderful.
The staff was lovely, as was the ambiance. The entire area was clean and maintained. They provided above and beyond with amenities. I loved the options between the types of baths, co-ed or women only, or private tubs! The restaurant attached served amazing Japanese food, and the beer selection was surprisingly full of imported Japanese beer to try!
I have been to numerous top notch spas around the world, and this was truly a WOW experience from the moment I walked in the door. So tranquil, so many extra perks not found at other spas, excellent staff that give phenomenal treatments!! And a lovely setting...the 4 hours flew by. The prices in gift shop, the shampoos and products they use are simply divine. The toilets are a magnificent treat in themselves, but you need to experience for yourselves!! GO!!
My lady and I always have a great time, whether we go to dine, relax in the hot tubs or get a massage. I have to admit I like it better since the pandemic caused them to do away with the locker room with showers and added private showers in the hot tub area. Excellent way to get away from it all, without going to far.
A classic Santa Fe experience. They have the friendliest staff and the most calm, serene ambiance. Both the private tubs and the massages are amazing. I love the meditation room and the little foot soak space as well! I grew up coming here and always try to make my way back each time I visit Santa Fe.
Im writing a new review for The Waves after their stellar and professional response to my earlier comments. Most of my concerns are irrelevant in 2021, anyways. Truly Im just glad this place exists-- its a treasure.Ive visited twice during the pandemic. While youll now have to pay a little more for a private tub, the experience is worth it. Absolutely exquisite surrounds, wonderful staff. Check out their website for a thorough explanation of all that they are doing to keep guests safe.
FANTASTIC! Relaxing! Exceedingly clean & beautiful lodging & dog friendly! Much needed weekend escape. Walking through the GORGEOUS surroundings to the spa in our luxurious spa robes. The restaurant is SO impressive, a delight!Amazing.I never write a review; but, this was a most amazing and exceptional stay - HIGHLY recommend! We have been talking about when we can return ever since leaving! :)
The locker rooms are EXTREMELY small with poor lighting. I had to go to the lobby to apply my makeup. The communal and womens hot tubs were nice and hot. There was construction noise during my stay. We were not told there would be renovation work. It was not a relaxing experience. My massage therapist was good. Overall I think the prices are inflated for what you get. I wont be going back.
Outstanding experience in the mountains. The atmosphere is so peaceful and serene. The spa experience is great, as good as Ive had anywhere, or even better. The lodging was totally worth the cost as it really enhanced our relaxing weekend spa experience. The restaurant is always outstanding. I love their seasonal specials.
Positives- Karen in booking was phenomenal. Helping me book 5 different packages and she efficiently took care of everything with grace and aplomb. The treatments were lovely and everyone enjoyed their choices. I had Ari who introduced me to shiatsu massage and was well trained, calming and perfectly communicative. The negatives- the spa is over crowded. We were there on a Monday and it still seemed body to body, with not enough space in common soaking spots like the foot soak. The locker rooms are WAY under sized! Youre just on top of one another. It is the opposite of a soothing intro to your services. There are no facial cleansing products available, the robe ties are not attached, constantly go missing or drop and you have to return your robe and shiatsu clothes to the front desk- no robe drop in the locker room. Their system of getting from soak to treatment feels a quite like a cattle call. The relaxation room is small, bare bones and too exposed or close to/mixed in to the entry fray. The prices are fair for the lovely services but high for the rest of the experience. Considering the number of resort spas in Santa Fe, Ten Thousand Waves has some improvements to make. Be prepared to adjust your expectations or accept a lesser all around experience, though again, the treatments and therapists are well trained and great. The restaurant was so+so. Decent food and we had a nice waiter. But we arrived with a reservation and they treated us like walk ins. There were tons of empty tables and we had to wait quite a while to be seated. It didnt match Karens amazing booking experience for the reservation. All in all, I understand why the experience is sought after- Japanese theme, treatment rooms are lovely and amongst nature with good treatments. But Ten Thousand Waves needs to improve the ratio of bodies to facilities and make the experience fit its theme and spa setting. As a prior spa professional and just a customer, I was disappointed with much of the experience and think there is plenty of room for improvement.
Great natural environment with an authentic Japanese spa feel. Houses of the Moon are incredible, relaxing habitations. Be prepared for possible loud conversations and slight murky water in the grand pool, cooler water in the foot baths, but the cold pool is kept cold, which was great! For the price, its a pretty good value. Izanami is a great, tasty way to finish off your spa visit.
Beautiful place! We were just there for the private hot tubs, but I would love to stay there in the future. Very inclusive as well.
The location is beautiful, but the rules posted on the website regarding covid policy is not what we were told in person. On the website it stated that you could dine at the restaurant if you had a negative covid test within 8 hours of arriving I believe. Individuals in my group spoke with Buddha Bob, who said that unless an individual was completely vaccinated they couldnt enter. The rest of my group dined at the restaurant without the unvaccinated individual. There is some discrepancy with enforcement or understanding. The food was very good, and I highly recommend the sake tasting, but I do have some suggestions. I wanted to share the hotpot with my sister, but was told it was only served in a specific section of the restaurant, I think you should list that on the menu. Second issue was that with the outdoor dining area, the staff were constantly opening the door and we were getting a cold draft every minute. The staff did turn up the heat for us which was appreciated.
