Painful to write anything but positive things about a gay establishment. But seriously The Eagle Seattle is 1) absolutely the worst Eagle I’m aware of and one of the worst gay bars out there 2) drinks are ridiculously overpriced in an already inflated economy (recommended to the owners - focus on selling more by having more patrons instead of ripping people off) 3) I’ve prob been 10 times, had fun ONCE during a party in like 2018. The problem is that nobody comes here, but I can kind of understand why.. went to furball in 2023 and I think it was maybe a couple dozen people that also came - that’s a really poor turnout for a Saturday party.Truly could be an awesome bar. Whoever is managing it must be stuck in their ways and refusing feedback that is all over these google reviews. Get with the times!

I hate leaving bad reviews but this place is awful. The first thing that hits you as you walk in is the smell!! It was a fetid, noxious mix of stale cigarette smoke, fresh cigarette smoke and weed. It looks like it hasnt been cleaned in months and the general vibe is dodgy. Avoid it.

Thank you to everyone from staff to guests who shared their love and space with us tonight as we celebrated our wedding!Everyone was welcoming and kind. It was 4 of us after our wedding (me, my new husband, maid of honor and best man).As a queer black woman in a straight presenting relationship, I appreciate any time I get to spend in queer and gay spaces. From the moment we walked in it was all smiles and such outgoing kindness.Thank you all for making our night so memorable.

PSA: NOT ALL ARE WELCOME HERE. We had the most shockingly rude and uncomfortable experience here last night. My friend brought us here because she has been here before and said this was a really fun gay bar. When my group walked into the bar and walked further in to check out the vibe of the bar in the back, the bartender at the bar in the front angrily shouted at us that we didn’t show him our IDs when we first came in. When we said sorry and walked back up to the front bar, the group of guys chilling at the bar with the bartender stared all of us down and started saying things like “you know this is a gay bar right?”, “there are other places you could go”, “why are you guys here?” all while bartender was angrily repeating that we didn’t show him our IDs earlier. We were in shock at how they were treating us and knew that we were clearly not welcome here, so right after showing him our IDs we decided to leave and wished them a good night. I’ve never been to a bar with such a mean, unwelcoming group of staff and regulars before. This shouldn’t matter at all, but some of our group are lgbtq. I guess if you’re not a group of gay men, you will be passive aggressively (or aggressively) shooed out.

I’ve been coming here since it was the J&L, lovingly referred to as Judy’ Lounge. It’s currently got some in the plus category, and plenty in the minus, but I’m reviewing for one reason only: a current bartender thinks it’s funny, or hot, or something, to slap his cricket bat, or other paddle, loudly on the bar. In a climate where we might well expect gunfire in the Eagle, this is not funny, or hot. Make him stop.

So long story short my friend forgot his debit card at the bar and we arrived at 4pm the next evening to retrieve the card. After getting there at 4 on the dot and the door being unlocked we walked in. Shortly after we were rudely greeted by a gentlemen saying we couldn’t be in the bar (reminder door was unlocked) and that his bartender would be there shortly. He also stated that he was too busy himself to simply get my friends card. Also another friend asked if she could use the bathroom and he unnecessarily said no repeatedly.

The best music of any place that spins! The DJs here are awesome. The clientele here (the men) here are pretty hot too. Easy connections among the patrons like it used to be back in the heyday. This place retains a lot of the feel and still some of the reality of the old back room bars. Check it out for sure.

The eagle is such a frustrating experience, not because it is bad, but because it has a lot of potential and constantly squanders it. First off, the music is some of the best house music in Seattle, and on good nights can beat out even re-bar in quality. The dance space needs some work, but is a solid space with nice vibes. The verticality of the space is a unique experience, and adds to its charm. However as many people point out, the eagle doesnt bring in crowds. Even when I was at the eagle for pride, it felt busy, but it wasnt nearly to the level of say CCs that same night, which had 30 minute long lines for drinks, and had a higher air temp than steamworks just from all the bodys. But what does this problem stem from? Listening to friends and people in the community, I think the issue is with drinks and with cover. With drinks, it has always always been a race for gay bars in Seattle to see which one can have the cheapest double well drink. Gay dudes in Seattle are some of the biggest alcoholics, and usually want the cheapest possible way to get drunk. Thats why CCs and the cuff as so popular, as you can just get a pitcher of beer, or a 6$ double that is 95% pearl and 5% mixer. However, while I personally dont find the drinks to be that expensive, there are certainly other places with more bang for your buck. The cover price is a little jarring, when you could pay 6$ for it(which isnt expensive for cover), however you could find yourself in an empty bar once you pay. Because there are no windows into the bar, you cant see if its a busy night, and knowing you have to pay to get in, you might not want to take a gamble. Im not totally sure why cover is charged a specific time rather than a certain level of occupancy, because quite frankly there are many times were theres only three people in the bar at 10:30 on some nights. This goes into the final problem with the Eagle is that it isnt a destination. Some bars specialize in being the start of your night with cheap alcohol, other bars specialize in being the last stop with a relaxing welcoming slow atmosphere. But what destination is the Eagle? The bar you want to go to when you want to pay a cover to get into an empty bar where the drinks are expensive and no one is dancing? There are some smaller issues that are annoying, like how parties are always advertised as a blacklight party, but the dance floor is never lit with them, or how parties are always advertised as starting way earlier than they really start, but I think the biggest problem is the disconnect to what gay men in Seattle want, versus what is offered to them at this bar.In all fairness, I think the strong suit of the bar is the music and dance, and the nice chill outdoor area. I wish this could be the bar I go to every Friday and Saturday, but with the issues the bar is facing, Im only willing to go twice a month. I truly hope that management makes changes to attract more crowds, because I want to be able to have fun in the space, but in its current state, thats rather hard to do.

Oh The Eagle in Seattle! I personally think it’s a fun little time. They have a nice staff crew for drinking making and the place has been decently clean when I’ve gone. The upstairs is fun and they have a fun lit up wall that is instagram perfect (if you’re into that stuff). Definitely a fun staple of Seattle. Give it a try and have a drink.

Ultimately the responsibility is mine to check the time when the bar closes. Someone at another bar told us they were open until 4. Went there at 1:50 paid cover and coat check and music is cut 10 mins later. Door guy should have said something instead of taking my money and tip. As an out of town patron I dont recommend going her for this sleazy reason.

I was a tourist there ... it was pretty quiet on a weekend night, I set at the bar didnt have much going on. If you are a fan of loud music with a bunch of people looking at you then this place may not be your type. Its not a bear bar at least thats what I feel like.

One of the few bars left with a Seattle gay history further back than the last decade. I started coming when I was 21, typically after hitting the Brass Connection for $0.75 double wells. The Eagle is one of two bars I still go to. Miss the days of the 2nd floor patio. Happy the whole place didnt burn down. When the original Basic Plumbing was a block away. Dominos was across the street and delivery was ordered on the walk home. The dance floor was added. Many a night of debauchery without judgement. Thank you for the memories and more to come!

Such a sad experience visiting this namesake of the New York Eagle. They shouldnt even be allowed to use the same name. Its a tiny little venue, and overcharge you for cover - even when its towards the end of the night and they know that the place is empty. Drinks were OK though.
