I walk by here weekly and the only time I was there was on a pub crawl about 10 years ago and they kicked us out, which I dont blame them. I wouldve as well because we were out of control and it was our last stop. Glad my husband and I stopped in for a drink on our date night recently. It did not disappoint, and I loved the vibe. Hazelwood wraps you in its cozy embrace. The main room’s chandelier adds a touch of elegance, and every room has a unique look. We didnt go upstairs but Im sure it has the same vibe. They have a ton of Crafted Cocktails. Pretty sure they take their mixology seriously. Each drink has a unique name, often grouped together by themes. The Bartender was knowledgeable and made each drink like it was his precious art. It was great! You might find yourself chatting with a stranger with a cat on his shoulder and a dog by his side. So, gather your curiosity, sip on a cocktail or mocktail, and let Hazelwood’s ambiance envelop you. Cheers!We didn’t eat here.

Great little cocktail bar in Ballard. I love dim and quiet spots, and the upstairs lounge is someplace I would spend a *lot* of time if I lived closer. 😆

My favorite cocktail bar in Ballard. Sometimes the bartenders aren’t all that friendly, but most of the time they are, and all of the time the cocktails are phenomenal.It’s a beautifully set up bar with an adequate amount of seating and interesting decor. A wonderful place to take a friend visiting town or to meet for a first date.

Small and stylish Cocktail bar. I particularly like that it is (a bit) dark inside. Bartender sure knows his Cocktails! My favorite place to get a drink after dinner in Ballard.

My girl friend and I stopped by here for a drink after dinner. We were blown away with how neat this place was. The owner was the bartender when we were there. Great selection of house coctails. He was very friendly and talkative. Many little nooks to sit and enjoy your cocktails. The place has lots of old black and white family portraits. Im not sure what the story behind them were, but definitely a unique look. We will definitely be back next time we are wondering around Ballard and need to quench our thirst.

The hipper-than-thou sorts that sometimes pass through with perpetual chips on their shoulders can be a downer (hey, its Seattle), but apart from that this place is A+ tops. Awesome selection of drinks, with a super chill, warm, cozy ambiance. A must visit when Im in the area. Always.

I love this place! The perfect mix of mood and libations. It’s a great place to settle into a deeper conversation as you devour a masterpiece of a cocktail. Lots of hidden treasures all throughout the bar including a peephole with a surprise on the other side.All and all it’s a must anytime I’m in town.

A most groovy joint with fun spots to hang out, including two separate upstairs places. Cozy bar. Nice lighting. Hot Toddy was very tasty & soothing after a long day in the dark rain. Cant believe Ive missed going in this place after so many years in Ballard! Will go again soon!

Really nice intimate cocktail bar. Dark subdued ambiance with interesting things to look at on the walls. Ive never been disappointed with a drink here.Word of warning though, the bartenders focus on making a quality drink which means that even a short line can take some time to get through. Bring your patience if you come and stay for the great drinks after

I freaking love this place. Its super small and intimate. The cocktails are always amazing. Prices are competitive, but totally worth it. Its like a loft. You walk in and theres a few seats at the bar, and upstairs there are couches to lounge on. I believe they have a DJ play upstairs sometimes, but Ive never been there when theyre performing...

Not big into the bar scene but this place had some nice seating areas with very interesting decor. Overall, decent place to spend an hour or two at with friends.

Great bar! I live nearby, and this is a great place to get cocktails. Not too crowded, dimly lit but not in the creepy way, and the cocktails were good. I ordered a Pimms cup, and it was refreshing and moderately priced for SF (~$12?). There are all sorts of liquor so the bartender can probably make whatever you want. Highly recommend!

Great place for a date- lots of intimate seating and space for more conversation. Bar tender was also funny and chill- even when she had to escort a belligerent woman from the bar. The bar itself is cramped and the overall layout of the space make for weird traffic flow. The cocktails, while delicious, are also a lil pricey in my opinion. Overall: glad I went, perfect place for a date, would go again on a treat-yo-self budget.

Theyre not cheap but every cocktail Ive tried is delicious and the vibe is so mellow and friendly. This is a great spot for a relaxing drink or two, or to start your evening. Finish it elsewhere because after too many drinks you wont appreciate the subtleties of these drinks.

Drinks should be much better than they are here. Fairly limited menu available only at the bar in 4 point font mounted to the wall behind glass. Bar service only. Awkward seating.

Hazlewood isnt like most bars. Their drinks are almost works of art. The bartenders clearly take their jobs seriously and strive to give customers the best drinks made from the best ingredients.They have some unique creations for the adventurous. But even old classics will seem new again. I had one of the best margaritas ever and cant wait to go back for another!

Some of the best cocktails in the city and a perfect spot to relax. Drinks have a nice range of bases, plenty to choose from for all tastes. Not recommended for the Appletini chug-a-lug crowd, but those who are open to trying out new cocktails, this is your spot!

A relaxed and enjoyable atmosphere. Staff is lovely and drinks are genuinely unique and intriguing.Highly recommend any cocktail on the menu that doesnt involve champagne.

The upstairs loft lounge is really cool, a bit more of a date place than casual hangout spot with friends. Staff was friendly, we ordered downstairs and walked our drinks up. I dont believe there is service up in the loft area.

This is a great cocktail place if you can get there early enough to beat the normal Ballard crowd.

Best bartenders ever! Warm, funky, and comfortable atmosphere with DJs spinning fun tunes upstairs 3rd Thursdays, 4th Fridays and more! Living room feel upstairs with leather couches and candles. Always fun.

The staff was so great. Someone dropped their whole glass and drink from the upper level onto our group down at the bar and the staff dealt with it SO well. Quickly and kindly. Plus the cocktails were delicious!

Our cocktails took longer to receive than made sense for what we ordered. The drinks were overpriced too! They use cheap well liquors in their signature cocktails and it showed. Drinks werent very good, but I do like the decor/vibe of the place.

This is one of the best cocktail spots in Seattle. If it’s not busy, try ordering a custom cocktail ya heard about online, they will accept any challenge! Love the Horses Neck.

Sarah, the GM was working the bar during my visit today. She was both gracious and incredible in her customer service and hospitality. She made my partner what he now deemed his favorite cocktail based on a cocktail hes had before but with a twist. The lady knows her bar and executes her craft well.

Hazlewood is very cozy -- the whole establishment is very small, even though theyve doubled their space recently -- they have pillows and lamps small tables. The drinks are amazing -- there are 30 or so house cocktails at any one time divided between six different categories (birds, saints, horses, les filles, blood and the weather), though Im confident you could have most any cocktail you can think of. My favorite is the trilby -- bourbon, vermouth and bitters.

Perfect place for a nightcap with a atmosphere to complement. The addition of a great presentation on each cocktail with complex flavors from unexpecting combinations make this a great spot for the casual drink or the date night.

The drinks were so on point. Girlfriend and I will definitely be back. Well also be back because of a fun experience helping a couple on their first date and bartenders were totally on board. Apparently the couple knew each other for a while but this was their first time in a date. While each one was away I asked how it was going and they expressed uncertainty (understandable). I told them, mostly truthfully, that the other person was totally into it. They both lit up when I said that. Then when we were on our way out, we bought them each a beer and the bar tenders were super overjoyed. My kind of bar tender!

Great place! It definitely deserves its reputation as one of the best cocktail bars in Seattle. The place has a small, exclusive feel, best for small groups of friends.

I went back to Shandys on my last visit home and its just as great as I remember. We dropped in around 2pm on a Sunday because of all the random things I miss about the US, its cheap pool games in dark bars with joke boxes.I cant express how nice it is to go to a familiar haunt and see that everything you loved about it is still there. Thanks, Shads.One final note: I forgot to tip the bartender when I paid for the first round of drinks, which I was absolutely mortified about but he was SUPER COOL about when I went back up as soon as I realized. Classy move, bartender.

The wine on tap is decent. The atmosphere is fun and comfy. Went here before a show at the Tractor and it was the perfect meetup place for our little group.

Some of the best cocktails in Seattle -- highly recommend. A warning: there are only three tables (all upstairs) so arrive early if you dont want to stand.

My home away from home. Patroning since initial open. This place never fails. It is perfect for hand crafted coctails and a more intimate atmosphere than a typical bar. The staff are stellar. The regulars are like-minded and everyone is family. However, for the first-timer please keep in mind, if you have a personal bubble it will be popped, and perfection takes time. Keep pretenses on the doorstep. Go upstairs, and relax.

Cozy, dimly lit, and intimate. Just looking at the bar counter you can tell that youll get a delicious craft cocktail. We tried the RedRum (contains gin and scotch, not run) and a cocktail with vodka, grapefruit, and campari. Both were delicious and exactly what each of us wanted. Highly recommend for a pre or post dinner drink, a catch up and chat with a friend, or for a date with a special someone.

Great atmosphere - even the guy carding at the door is good-humored - and good cocktails. Personally dont like the DJ. The space is too small, and it gets too loud to talk when the DJ starts playing.

I actually liked this place but I had an extremely frustrating experience. My friend came in after Id given them my credit card info for a tab. He insisted on taking the previous tab and adding it to his. The guy behind the bear obliged. Sadly, BOTH mine and my friends cards are charged for ALL the drinks. They even added a tip on mine thinking I hadnt come back and they must automatically add one. I tried calling them for the next two weeks and got a full voicemail box the whole time. Im pretty ticked and intend to tell then the next time Im in Seattle. My friend, who is a local, tried to explain.it to them but they did that couldnt do anything without both parties present. Felt like a scam.

Good ambiance and great drinks. I really wish there was more bartending staff - service was quite slow just because of the crowds and line - and that water was provided to the tables here.

I cant speak for the atmosphere because when Ive gone its been on weekdays nights. I go to talk to friends after work. I can see how if the DJ was blasting music it would be impossible to hear anything as there is probably enough space 15 people comfortably unstairs and maybe another 10 below.

Ive been here a few times and always had a lot of fun. Its a small place but I think that is part of the appeal. Im not a very social person but this is one of the only bars where Ive had a good time with everyone around me not just the people that I came with.

Love this place. Dont get to come very often anymore now that we have a kid, but when I make it in its always a great time. Small and cozy with delicious drinks and comfy seats upstairs.

What a little tucked away gem! Really great creative cocktails, sweet staff and a fun atmosphere. Make sure you go upstairs and look through the peep hole at the very back.

Not exactly sure if Hazelwood was an actual person or a folk hero created over drunken conversation. but I once heard that the secret switch upstairs (its behind the couch in the corner) -lights up a peepshow of Mr. Hazelwood back in the day surrounded by his harem of nekkid womens, á la that famous song we all used to sing during recess:theres a place in France,where all the nekkid ladies dance.theres a hole in the wall,where you can see it all [at Hazelwood].PS: the drinks arent half bad either.
