Its cute or whatever. The people are nice and so was the service. Nice selection of culturally relevant music especially considering I came from LA where the music selection in clubs was close to polar opposite of my taste. The drinks are cool. Not as potent as other places but it gets the job done eventually. Id come back with a friend or two
This was my first time here and I liked the music and the drinks specials. The music included a few throw backs to the 90s ( I am young, sorry) and early 2000s, mainstream, and a lot of beyonce. The drink specials were Fireball for $4, beer was not too pricey and cocktails were reasonable. I didnt feel uncomfortable here. The guys were all nice and the staff was very fast at getting drinks. The cover charge was $5, which I didnt love but the drinks prices made up for it. Tonight, a Saturday, was a little dead. This is probably due to the holiday season. My friends and I had a nice night. There are a few stripper poles, if anyone wants to get naughty. The toilets were clean, mainly urinals and not too many bathroom stalls. There was a mix of straight and gay people. Primarily gay men and a few single ladies who just wanted to dance.
I love this bar, the atmosphere is always real chill and the music is always on point. Everyone from Janet Jackson, Missy Elliott to Ariana Grande and Major Lazor is spun on heavy rotation and its great. The drinks are fairly priced and the bartenders are always really friendly and will sometimes even make their own concoctions for you if you ask. I would recommend this bar to anyone, it is definitely one of the better ones in the city. On the plus side there is also a 7/11 and McDonalds in walking distance too if you or any of your friends want to grab something quick once you leave.
I had my phone stolen while dining in this place 2 years ago and Im pretty sure it was someone who worked there. I went there again recently on a Thursday night for a drink with a friend. A Stoli Orange Cosmo and a margarita was $32. A huge ripoff even by DC standards! Then that same night my jacket was stolen while it was on the chair right behind me. If you want over-priced drinks, lousy service and have your personal items stolen, this is your place. Ill go back to my favorite bar, Number Nine, where the bartenders are nice (and cute), the drinks are good and reasonably priced.
Walked all around DC as a visitor from out of town. Really wanted to make this a stop to hopefully buy some merchandise likes shirts or whatever. The doorman was awesome, level one bartender was amazingly sweet telling me I should ask the managers upstairs. Went upstairs to the actual cobalt bar not knowing was separated and the guy behind the bar was so quick and rude and probably didnt even listen to me. I wouldnt come here if your from out of town they wont make you feel welcomed.
Usually always had a great time at this spot for the past years. But this previous weekend I was denied entry from bouncer (short white/latina heavy-set woman) for apparently lying to her regarding how many drinks I had prior to coming to Cobalt. I was not drunk at all and of legal age, last time I checked its not a crime in the USA to drink if youre 21+. I had brought in friends to celebrate with from out of town and was embarrassed by my treatment at the door. Needless to say all 8+ of us left and spent our money elsewhere. Cobalt management I hope you address this situation so people arent being arbitrarily turned away in the future.
I had a great evening at your establishment and ended my night there. When I went to shake the hand of Jo, the girl bartender I had been ordering from and tipping all night (I say girl because her actions at the end of the night were incredibly immature), she completely ignored and dismissed me. Granted she has every right to do so but to treat me in such a way after Ive been tipping her generously, having my friends come on a weeknight, simply asking questions, just having fun, isnt right.Dont take advantage of people that you might think are drunk, they know whats going on. Being a nice person takes a hell of a lot less effort than being a mean one.Hopefully I just caught her on a bad night.
The bartenders at this club are rude to young people and feel entitled to have customers there. Its empty most nights of the week, surprised it stays in business. To compensate they charge a cover that isnt worth it. On the so-called 18+ nights, it is never the crowd it promises to be. Maybe because they charge overpriced drinks, institute a $20 credit card minimum and cover for everyone, both old and young. No incentives for young, self-responsible, trendy people to go there. Theyd prefer to make things easier for them than for you, the customer. Id stay away.
Cobalt is highly over rated and the service staff have no clue how to treat out of towners. The cover charge I can understand but it is not worth $10 just to enter and have a glass of wine. They need to be more practical and understand that when paying $4 for water, they should allow that person to take it out side with them as they smoke. The door staff is one that I wouldnt hire anywhere. Rude, unprofessional that of which I will never be back and by word if month, hopefully a lot more ppl wont be back.
Good secret to know for Friday nights. There is a $10 cover, but you also have open bar for vodka drinks from 11am-Midnight. Sometimes its rail, sometimes its Belvedere. The music is great on both of their levels, always a pleasure to visit here.
Cobalt is the discothéque of your dreams. The dj and light show are world-class. The most beautiful people in the district dance there. I don’t drink but the bar has very reasonably priced vodka based drinks like stoli & Red Bull(R). Please take care to hydrate if you enjoy vodka based cocktails. The bar offers water bottles, which make a nice, responsible chaser. The first level is the lounge area and smaller dance floor. Occasionally, they show music videos; these are very special nights. The top floor is for serious dancers: pro & amateur. The security team does a great job; please take care to be respectful to everyone and have fun!
Perfect storm of overly priced drinks (yes, even by DC standards), bartenders that cant properly mix drinks to save their lives, and atrocious customer service by management make this a place to avoid (I cannot speak for Level One, the restaurant, as I never eat at a club).I once had my drivers license and debit card stolen, and guess who was the last to possess both? A bartender as I had opened a tab. Management completely unresponsive, making me drive to Cobalt on 3 different occasions only to be told, Well look in to it ... more than a year later and nothing! For real drinks, made with top shelf products by friendly staff, Ill stick with Copycat ... plus I dont have anything of mine turn up missing when I go there!
Nice crowd, when I learned there was a third floor and I️t was jumping I knew I️t would be a spot I’d go to again. Crowded but who cares we all love to party and enjoy a few shoulder bumps and accidental booty rubs every now and then. The bartenders did a great job with drinks as well, they have great service.
The manager Mr. Blanchard is extremely rude and if you make suggestions or complain about something, he will make up lies about you and ban you from the establishment.Mr. Blanchard is upset that since he became a manager, Friday nights have become dead due to his policies.Customer feedback is what leads to better business practices and Mr. Blanchard is not receptive to customer input. He was extremely rude after I called him on the phone to ask him why I was barred from the club.He made up lies: I took my drinks outside(this is illegal and I have done no such thing), I complain all the time(no I complained twice), I cause headaches for him and his employees(I know a lot of the bartenders and security staff on a first name basis and I am cordial with them).
Really wanted to like this establishment. Crowd really trendy and was not welcoming or friendly - I guess it was obvious that I was from out of town. The staff was focused on locals and didnt take time to schmooze with the out of towner. It was really a cold and trendy place that I was made to feel unwelcomed. Was approached and was given an armband and when asked what it was for I was curtly told that it was for Cobalt. (Duh!?) Since I was standing there in the lounge - I could only have assumed that...
Bartenders are great and very attentive. Especially love Aaron and Chase. Great happy hour specials. Good hangout for someone that wants to chill and drink with friends.
No line when I went. Was ladies night so not too many males there. The bar was packed and the music was good. Bar line was a bit long to wait but the bartender was nice and fast. Would like to go on another night
The bar staff is beyond rude. In general, the bar is quite fun and has good music. Dont except anyone there to be friendly though. The bar tender was incredibly childish and unprofessional.
I don’t say this about many nightclubs, but it’s worth the cover at the door.Good lights, good music, and options for everyone.Drinks are maybe a little light handed sometimes but the prices aren’t awful.
Went here during the Pride Parade yesterday and had a blast. Get music, fun people, and good cocktails. Ended up get a few ice tea lemonades and had a great time.
The bar tenders didn’t even know how to make simple drinks. Two drinks in trash cause they didn’t know or have everything needed.Teach or hire real bar tenders would be improvement. Only reason I give it a two.
Lovely place... Good food... Good drink specials Mon-Wed... The bartenders are pretty cool... Just gotta pick and choose who you like... Otherwise its pretty awesome!
Love love love this place! I had a wonderful time. It has a great atmosphere, multiple levels, and even gender-inclusive bathrooms. I will definitely return on my next visit to DC
This place is great Im from pgh. This bar was great people are great bartenders are super nice. Love the music and diverse crowd.had a great time
Nice and all. Good music up stair. Was l attacked by some homeless guy and left bleeding, but u know, better than some countries I guess.
Used to frequent this place when I was younger. Different levels so you can choose the scene you want to be in: more laid-back lounge downstairs or club scene upstairs
Good dance club, crowded on weekends or themed nights. Has not been taken over by bachelorette parties... Yet.
Went last night (Friday) for drinks and dancing-- had a blast! Good diverse crowd.
Rude bartenders who treated us like lepers. If you arent local and young stay away. Spend your money somewhere where they want you.
This is my favorite dance club in the city. 2 floors of good music and lots of drink specials.
Food and drinks are price very fair and very delicious. Very lay back atmosphere!
Friendly bartender. Great drinks. Small dance floor but still nice
5 stars because my wife & I always have a greast time no matter what night it is.
Great place with 2 levels, great music, great drinks, awesome atmosphere.
Love the atmosphere! definitely one of our favorite places to go for a night out.
Free vodka on Friday nights between 11-12 (with a $10 cover).

This establishment has closed. They had the closing weekend party last weekend 3/15
Horrible music on weekends! And the Djs are rude and bad
Went on a Sunday. The bartender was incompetent and impolite.
Such a shame this place shut down. Always a good time here
