Merengue House Bar & Restaurant

Myra and her crew catered my entire wedding. We had empanadas and rellenas de papa for our cocktail hour along with a cheese and fruit board. We had several choices for meat and arroz con gandules and a few other items. Their presentation and service was phenomenal. Most of all the food was delicious! Everybody complimented the food. We live in Dover and there are no Spanish restaurants expect for the food truck near Ollies. The food here was delicious and the service was great. Definitely recommend them to anyone who enjoys Dominican food. Thank you for making my experience good. Will visit again soon.

The food was sooooooo good. Everything! We have already decided to become regulars. Service and atmosphere was great. Also a bar after hours. #SALSAHad to come back and change my review. This is the 3rd time in the row receiving super dry over cooked snapper. Meat so dry it is hard to swallow. I did say something the first time with hopes of improvement but this is the last time for me.

It is one of the greatest Latino restaurants, if not the best, in Wilmington. Super cool staff, and awesome service. It has become a family favorite for great food, drinks, security ...and while we have not visited their dance room ...its vibe and music selection ...entertains us while we eat. I cant wait to go again!

Cute spot. Went in the evening a little after 9pm. Music was playing and shortly after we arrived the lights went low and party lights came on. The music was good and lighting was a cool vibe. The staff was polite. We however had to find out server twice throughout our meal to get assistance (water/ ranch and the check). The waitress staff was patient with our questions and the bartender was very cheerful when she came to help. I enjoyed the chicken empanada. I ordered the salmon al mango. My meal wasnt hot. It may have been sitting awhile before i got it. I didnt complain. It looked beautiful. Taste was decent. A few minor things but overall a good experience.

A hidden gem in Wilmington! Im so glad I found it. I went with my friend to celebrate my birthday. It was a cute spot, with good food and music. Its definitely a vibe.The service and the food was good too.I will be back!

This is such a great place to eat and just vibe, very eclectic. Being from Texas and speaking very little Spanish, the lady at the front and the owner took time with me and made me feel like I was home, like if I was in my Auntie’s kitchen eating good food and having a ton of good fun. The service was fast and friendly. Very welcoming. There wasnt much of a wait at 7pm. I ordered the red snapper. I love fish. The presentation was great. The fish was well seasoned but without sauce it was a lil dry. There was no dressing for the salad either. The small lemonade was $4. The food was good. Will come again. Ill try the chicken next time.

Great authentic Dominican food! I ordered the beef empanadas, calamari, skirt steak w/shrimp and salmon w/yellow rice. The was seasoned well and very flavorful. The empanadas were amazing... all stuffed and crispy. This is worth a repeat.

Gave this place a try based off of the reviews... And i was soooo disappointed...I wanted to cry because I was hungry and couldnt even eat this stuff...order the Pechuga A La Plancha which was supposed to be marinated Chicken.. it was beyond dry.. and not very seasoned.. they topped it with a spoon of salsa.. the empanadas LOOKED delicious and were fully and stuffed with meat... It was supposed to be steak but turns out it was unseasoned ground beef... It tasted like grease and ground beef.. the crust was nice and crispy.. but no seasons at all it was hard to eat... I was expecting lots of season and maybe peppers something... The chicken empanada was dry and unseasoned..maybe it was a bad day.. but they seem like they have potential.. I would give them another try in the future.. if they just use some season spice it up and not over cook it they would be a 5 star

I am extremely disappointed with the lack of customer service provided by the waitress(Jasmin) at this establishment. Throughout my entire dining experience, she failed to make a single appearance at our table. We were left waiting for extended periods of time, without any acknowledgement or assistance. I hope that the management takes this feedback seriously and addresses the issue promptly to ensure that future customers do not have to endure such a frustrating dining experience.

I really love this place!! I always used to get the salmon with mango, a tres leches cake and an empanada and my boyfriend would always order food as well! I used to order the food on Grubhub, but recently, Ive noticed the prices have gone up, as well as a $6.49 delivery charge but I have grubhub+. I dont mind the recent price increase as much because the food is definitely worth the money but having the $6.49 delivery charge caused us to not get it as much anymore, which is a shame because I was addicted to their food. I dont know if it was Merengue House or Grubhub that changed it to have a delivery fee but I hope it gets fixed soon. Overall, I do recommend this restaurant to others though!

Just started to frequent this area on my freetime and ended up coming across this jem. Its always very peaceful and welcoming here along with the food always being exactly what I expected. I get that some people may leave bad reviews for some places but I feel like any bad review left on this place can be fixed as long as u communicate with them what the issue is. One of our favorite Latin restaurant. We drive from PA once a week to enjoy meal, atmosphere and drinks. Owner is a visionary and providing Top notch service is extremely important. Going here is like family, they know your name and what you like. Always new items on menu. One of the BEST mojitos, specially the passion fruit. They also have a passion sangria. Prices are good and quality of food is outstanding. Their Sushi Spanish style is Amazing.When you visit try something new each time, everything is great.A MUST in Wilmington, no other place can compare to Latin cuisine at all.Michelle & Santiago

The menu is extremely misleading. Every item is atleast $5 more than what is listed. It takes it from being fairly priced to a rip off. It isnt worth the hassle.

We went to the day for first time to this restaurant and have a great experience. There was a family environment. The staff greeted us when we arrived. Jasmin was a our server and took care of our needs. Lastly the food was delicious and great. It made me feel I was back home.

This place is the best kept secret of Wilmington DE. The margaritas are bomb and a must try. Happy hour wings and empanadas are very good. Please let me know if you feel the same. Ordered food online, when I got there was met with attitude like I was taking up their time. The lady that helped me asked can I help you, then I replied yes Im picking up an order for James. Then she replied I need to see the order cause I dont know. She said did u call it in, I said no online . She then mumbled something and then again asked to see the receipt on what the order was. So then I pulled up the email verification and then she went to fet it. Miserable workers,dingy environment, empty for a Friday Night, and then when she handed me the food the person sitting at the table and her started talking about the situation before I left. I will never go back and I will tell the people I know not to bother with this place. The food I got was pretty good. The wings were overly salty and had an off taste. . Dont waste your time here unless you are getting it delivered. This is a place where they were not welcoming and did not want me there.

This place is DELICIOUS!!!! The chicken empanadas were the best Ive ever had and the chicken itself was absolutely incredible. The ground beef empanadas were also delicious. The churrasco steak and churro beans were amazing. But seriously, the chicken cordon bleu will literally change your life. That first bite was emotional it was so damn good. That meal just made me happy.

My first visit was a very pleasant experience. The staff was friendly and service was very timely. I had atrip of empanadas (beef, pork & chicken) as a starter, salmon w/ mango salsa, rice and maduros as my main course. Everything was cooked to perfection and very flavorful. Its a cozy spot that seemed to be the group gathering spot with a steady stream of customers and everyone was enjoying themselves. Unfortunately, I didnt take any photos.

We fell in love with this Dominican Restaurant in the heart of Wilmington DE. From the kindest person on the phone, Jazmin, to the VIP table reserved again by Jazmin, the environment and joyful merengue music to food to die for, literally. My husband and I and our daughter and family just visited today and could not be happier with our visit (we came from as far as North East, MD, at least one hour away. It was worth it. We will be coming back again real soon. The owner of the place came out to cheer and welcome us. We felt very special. To Jazmin our host to the Owner and of course the magic kitchen people thanks for your kind reception and attention. All the stars to this Dominican joint.

Food is delicious and always fresh. Costumer service is great. The minute you walk in they greet you, seat you and from there all goes smooth from the waiters being knowledgeable and very courteous to the food tasting amazing. I recommend this place to anyone coming or living in Delaware. My favorite is the Mofongo with Shrimp but everything I have eaten as been delicious and flavorful.

Worst food i ever ate in my life 0 out of ten. just come here for the party nights. i’m telling you get back in your car and turn around 🤬. rice was old. nd it smelled like feet. place needs to be shutdown. everything was old. disgusting services. did not adhere to order. if you ask for things they add it anyway. very disrespectful. made me hate latin food.

Great experience Lady M was off the chain. Very nice, professional and attentive. Each time she saw our glass almost empty, she gladly refilled. I loved the crispy pork inside of empanada dont remember exact name, very delicious. #LONGISLANDICEDTEA

Food was less than mid. My pork shoulder was under cooked. I received a lot of fat in it. The rice was a bit above bland . For the price it was not worth it. First and last time here at this spot.

Being Latino my expectations for the presentation and taste of Latin food, and in particular Puerto Rican food are high as the comparison always goes back to moms cooking or my wifes cooking. Latin restaurants have always seemed to disappoint. Even so I like to support and eat at local restaurants particularly in the city and particularly if they are ethnic as many people stick to the foods and safe spaces they know. The location is a good one as you can pop into the city from route 4 or from 141 and onto 52. Both safe routes in the city. During the early evening till 7 pm is a great time to go. Although if they serve lunch that would be good as well. The service was friendly, very attentive and very responsive. The one waitress spoke Spanish, some English but I think she understood most of what was stated to her in English. The food was amazing. Every dish, from every person at the table was well received with nothing but positive to amazing reviews. The appetizers of mofongo were well proportioned and very well done. We had the shrimp mofongo. Another person at the table had empanadas. They were full of meat, with the fritter lightly done with a crisp taste, not oily at all. I had the Churrasco steak which is a thin steak, hard to cook but came out medium nicely spiced. The red snapper was lightly battered and fried. It came out like it does in the Caribbean, head and all. Dont get freaked out by that. The presentation of all of the entrees was amazing. I asked who the cooks were. I did not get there names but these gentlemen cooked like professionals. Jasmine our waitress rivaled any waitress we had at the Quion, Bardea or the restaurants in Philly. I have chased and eaten at many of Phillys top 50 restaurants. This place is not sophisticated as many of them are or the Quion or Bardea but food wise, very good. The best Latin restaurant in Delaware and top five in Philly easy. And, lol, I am not family nor do I know the owners. I hope them continued success. They deserve it. One knock. Only one half bottle of Cab was available. The restaurant out of red wine! Get more red wines to offer customers! I had no way on Google to give 4.7 or 4.6 stars but that would be my true rating for our experience here.

I went here and the food was cold, we waited more than 25 minutes for an order of maduros that we never got. The food made my dad sick to the point of him throwing up. To add insult to injury the host happily bought the bill for the nasty cold food they served us. Oh they refunded us $3.00 for the maduros, I left that as the tip. I wouldnt recommend it only because their customer service socks. 👎👎👎👎👎

Amazing food, atmosphere, and even better service! We had a group of 19.. with some of the pickiest eaters, and OMG I did not get 1 complaint! Everyone loveddddd their food and drinks! The pernil(pork) was one of the best Ive ever had ( my mom even had to ask who cooked it to let her know it was delicious) Wish we didnt live so far because we would be here all the time.

Went for dinner with several of my friends and was not impressed at all. The food was re-heated, the pork was dry and I mean dry and looked old. Did not even try to eat it. I asked for an empanada and was a bit happy to see that the outside layer looked fresh only to take a bite and the meat have a tangy taste to it. I am no cook but I’m sure it was rotted meat. I will not be back.

Its just amazing. I have no words. Definitely one of the best restaurants since Ive been to the Wilmington area. Merely the smell got me as I stepped into the place, and later when the food was served it was only even higher above my expectation. The salmon and mango was super, so soft and tasty, and of course everything else were just as spectacular. the size was really generous. My leftover is definitely enough for another meal. Vanessa and Emeily helped us and they were really sweet and nice and helpful :). Im sure I will definitely go visit this place more than multiple times later, and please please please dont miss it if you like great food and vibe.

This place is for a younger crowd.I wouldnt recommend for the age group above mid 30s.Why? The music is loud inside. Its not a place to sit and dine and have a conversation with family or a date. Food is good, portion size could be better.

Shrimp tacos were mediocre and overpriced. Friends got the plantain nachos, which looked delicious, I just couldnt eat them as a vegetarian-but that plate was cleaned! I was in a large party and they charged over 20% gratuity on my split bill.

Service was friendly. The food not so good. Chicharones de pollo with the mofongo are more like chicken strips than chicharones. The mofongo wasnt the best but the chicharones de pork where pretty good though. All in all honestly wasnt worth what I paid.

This place is awesome, theres a restaurant on the first floor by day and a lounge on the second floor at night. If you want a great Latin food experience, this is the place to be. The food selection is comprehensive and the service is top notch. The night life is popin and the bar upstairs is on point. I highly recommend this place.

I havent been to the restaurant but Ive been to the club upstairs. The security was great at checking everyone. The music was good and diverse. The only thing that I can say is that the club way way over crowded. It was hard to move around and drinks was spilled on people.

I like this place. They cook a delicious mofongo al ajiyo. Carnitas con tostones riquisimos. I recomend this place if you want to pass a family moment. And hear bachata y merengue. They are a happy people and beautiful personality.

Finally a good Dominican place that sells good food and the nightlife is just as amazing! For all you Dominicans/latinos out there who feel like you have to go to Philly to dance at a place with decent music, you dont have to do that anymore. Look no further. Ive been here 3 times and had an amazing time. Ive never witnessed any bad vibes or violence. Ive had the food and can recommend the toston burgers and trio sampler app. The music is always the latest Latin music. I highly recommend!

Good food , I got the merengue house burger and hubby got the canua with rice and beans. It was exactly what we expected. Only negative was how long the food took for us being the only people there other than that will go back.

I didnt come a year ago, I dont know if it was the same owner but it was better than I remembered, everything was exquisite, they treated us super friendly, nice music.

Wow... how delicious this restaurant is. My palate is not Dominican and I went to this restaurant to try something different.....Its a shame I didnt take photos of all the meals... but we ordered empanadas (the meat one is the best), mofongo, tripe and even the hamburger and everything was great. The girls attention was excellent. I would definitely come again and recommend it. 🤤🤤🤤
