Enjoyed their cocktails and the dessert a lot for my birthday. the hostess was very sweet and the atmosphere was adorb - both in the dining room and in the garden with string lights on. can recommend tom in the afternoon (a light and smooth sour) and the tahini hibiscus cheesecake (the kind of saltiness in a cheesecake was a very unique flavor profile). the food was not bad but also did not stand out too much. they did do a good job with the mushroom skewers - they tasted really like meat.
This spot in Brooklyn is a hub for culture. They are mindful of the planet (without making a big deal about it, which is very cool), and the staff is equally cool. The space itself is stylish, and I was so impressed by its sophisticated vibe that I ended up buying some records and apparel. In the evening, it turns into a reservation-only restaurant, and they frequently host music events. I would love to create a place like this!
I haven’t been back here recently, but I went about a year ago and public records is what I envision a club/restaurant in New York to be like. Forward thinking, eco-conscious, and with excellent curation. I thought it was a tad on the expensive side but what isn’t these days? I would love to try their cafe and hang out during the day sometime. Everyone should make some time, day or night, to come here.
This place gets great music acts but it gets hotter than hades in the venue. It’s not that big. And they never have half the things on the menu at the bar in the venue. The restaurant is not horrible but it’s fully vegan so be aware if that’s not your vibe. The drinks are pretty good. The aesthetics are also really minimal but nice. The crowd is always super well to do which is a bit bizarre given the location. But I guess that’s part of the gentrification. Overall worth coming for the artists you love. I also love that the entire venue is Blue Verified. They do care about the earth and ocean and we love that. I wish they did more to advertise the affiliation.
We went to the restaurant last night before a show and were really blown away by the food. Each bite had so many textures and flavors, and everything was so balanced. The staff was really sweet, and our server was so knowledgeable about the menu. We’ll be back so we can try everything :)
This place was great! I didn’t know it was a vegan spot before I arrived (that’s my fault for not checking) but my cousin wanted to go to a listening bar so we went. Unfortunately we went on a Tuesday night (another mistake) and it was basically just a restaurant, which we were a little disappointed about. However we still had a good time. The service was extremely friendly, and I really enjoyed my meal. The cheesecake was fantastic, and our drinks were so tasty. Really recommend this spot!
My drink was spiked here on Friday night with Rohypnol. I never left my drink alone for a second and my friend is convinced I was drugged by the rude outdoor bartender we had multiple poor interactions with. I know for a fact this happened at Public Records because this is the only bar we got drinks at that evening. I’ve tried to call them to report this and they won’t answer the phone. Very disappointing because I’m only calling to ensure this doesn’t happen to another girl. Extremely upsetting.
If I could give Public Records zero stars, I would. This place is an absolute nightmare. My friend had her drink spiked here this past Friday evening. We believe it to have been by a bartender, as her drink was never left unattended. When we tried to contact the venue to address this serious issue, they completely ignored us -no answers, no callbacks, nothing. Its clear they dont care about the safety or well-being of their patrons.Public Records is not only unsafe, but its also a miserable place to be. Do yourself a favor and steer clear of this toxic environment. There are plenty of other places in the area where your safety is actually a priority and the staff knows how to treat people with basic human decency.
4.5 | this is such a cute spot. great drinks, the negroni bianco was chefs kiss, and everything we ate was yum. I like the dessert a lot but it is a bit rich, so if youre into more light desserts maybe not this one [hibiscus dessert]. the taxi driver was a great cocktail as well. my friend had the cheesecake and the kimchi rice, which they both enjoyed. I had the mole tostado. it was very flavorful and refreshing as well with the toppings of veggies. I would recommend! the ambiance is top tier and the service was great! would definitely come back.
My absolute favorite dance venue in NYC - however I would recommend against going on a weekend night. I’ve always looked to PR for a safe and comfortable vibe when I want to listen to a talented artist in the right environment. The people that I’ve encountered are always there for the music and are respectful of others. However, the vibe is very different on weekend nights and the people that go are rambunctious, pushy, and don’t understand social etiquette.I only recommend going during weeknight parties or during the day. The vegan food is absolutely out of this world for a vegan menu. The original vibe that was intended here is incredible if you can catch it.
Public Records, you are a haven for true music lovers and music explorers. I love what you stand for, the community you nurture, and how thoughtfully and cleverly you integrate artists with the space. The menu was short and sweet but delivered strongly from the new head chef (congrats Tanea Cash!). The drinks menu impressed as well. Not only all this, but the indoor and outdoor spaces are well maintained and the service, wonderful! And to top it all off, Public Records IS the vibe because every single patron I encountered was polite and courteous. This is such a respectful yet fun and artistic environment! The price of some of the cocktails are a bit steep but the complete experience matched by the energy of the Public Records goers was well worth it. I assume this is all thanks to incredible management, so thank you 🙏
What a great spot! First visit was on a date – loved the non-alcoholic strawberry shrub and some truly on-point cocktails made by Misha, who apparently enters bartender competitions and rightly so.Back for lunch another day, I thought this beet toast with vegan labneh was to die for. I’m not vegan but look forward to trying other dishes from the all-vegan menu. The space is also very pretty!
Realistically the coolest venue in New York. I think when people think about New York being cool and stylish they are actually just picturing public records. I wish the music they played was more my style in general, but whenever I do go I have a good time. The vegan restaurant is pretty great as well, and working here during the day is pretty magical except that the WiFi sucks.
3.5 stars ⭐️Love the concept here and the ambiance, but I think the food has gone a bit downhill over the past year or so - particularly at this price point.Note: They no longer do a full brunch service. You order in the front off an abridged ~5 item menu and they bring the food to your table. The salad had good flavoring but the fruit was raw. The Kimchi grilled cheese came out cold and the bread felt a bit old/stale.Coffee was excellent - I had the filter, black.
We were in the area so we popped in to this location for a vegan lunch and really loved it! The location is very well designed—spacious and cute. The staff is very friendly, helpful, and prompt. Food was very good and interesting, we had the poached pear + almond ricotta toast and the biscuits and gravy and cleaned both plates. Cocktails were tasty, we had the coffee Negroni (not a lot of coffee taste, but very good) and the shiso Brooklyn (not strong shiso but very refreshing).
The watermelon tuna was by far the best suprise i’ve ever had! 1000/10 recommended. Also, we were gifted free drinks as artist performing there. The service was impeccable.
Wow. This gem. Thank you for making vegan food so delicious and cool. Ambiance of this spot is on point, hipster vibes. The food is beyond amazing. Had the carrots, heirloom tomatoes, and taco, everything as amazing and everyone was amazed. Great bar, indoor seating, and outdoor space. Will definitely be back!
Amazing vegan dinner! We had six dishes on the menu and all were delicious, bursting with flavor, beautifully presented and filled with nutrients. The highlight was the wood ear mushroom congee which had tons of umami. The consistency was more like a risotto vs. congee. Mixed with lots of microgreens and baked kale, each bite was so mouthwatering delicious.Second favorite was the Asian pear, almond ricotta on seed toasts. The texture was enhanced with the sunflower seeds. Mixed with the naturally sweet poached pears and almond ricotta cheese, it was so enjoyable. The baked beets and chicory salad were both lovely too and very unique. Least special was the jackfruit tacos which were good just not as memorable and creative like the other dishes. Our server was quite slow and not attentive but the food was amazing.
Always the best of nyc nightlife here. The best sound system. The best vibes. The best dance floor. No photos no flashes just music. Such a great spot to get lost in the music. Come early for a drink or bite to eat in the atrium. The sound room is top notch. Outdoor venue is a fun new addition and 2nd floor spot is dope.
Public records offers high end vegan fare in the refurbished location of the original ASPCA in Gowanus. The music and setting, like the food, are exotic, niche, and offer a full sensory experience. The reputation they had before my first visit was well deserved. This is a 5/5 restaurant that offers a real experience to accompany its food. Staff were also remarkable, must visit when in the area.
My recent visit to Public Records, a nightclub where patrons expect a certain level of professionalism and courtesy, was utterly disappointing due to the appalling behavior of one particular bartender. On the evening of Wed 31st of January, I encountered a bearded male bartender whose conduct left much to be desired. After purchasing two cocktails, each priced at a hefty $17, I made the decision not to leave a tip. Instead of handling the situation with grace and understanding, this bartender proceeded to berate me in front of my date, loudly declaring that I was too cheap and threatening to refuse service for any future cocktails.Being publicly humiliated in such a manner was not only embarrassing but completely uncalled for. It is deeply concerning that a staff member at Public Records would resort to such unprofessional behavior, especially towards paying customers. No one should be made to feel ashamed for making financial decisions within their means. This bartenders outburst not only soured my evening but also cast a shadow over the reputation of Public Records as a whole. It is my sincere hope that management takes swift action to address this issue and ensure that other patrons are not subjected to similar treatment in the future. In conclusion, I urge potential patrons to think twice before patronizing Public Records if this is the type of treatment they can expect from its staff members.Anyhow, the club is full of hedgefund analysts and consultants with erectile dysfunction those days. Sad to see a good place become a heap of garbage.
Super disappointing experience with this venue, which happened for the second time. The ticket staff were incredibly rude and unprofessional (worst of all the venues I have been inn nyc) . Despite arriving on time, we were made to wait in line for 40 minutes, only to be redirected multiple times by different staff members. This resulted in an additional 40 minutes of waiting, making it a total waste of our time.We chose this venue because it’s closer to Bushwick, but the event was oversold, just as others have mentioned. It was not worth it at all. Additionally, we were misled about your engagement with DoNYC.A year ago, we had another bad experience when the coat check and door staff double-charged us. I strongly advise checking your credit card statements if you buy tickets at the door, as it seems like a scam.Overall, I am extremely disappointed with your service and the lack of professionalism. you
Please do not go here. They oversell tickets and have very tiny venue comparatively. Also there is no air-conditioning so you will sweat like crazy. I have seen ladies harrowed by the heat just sitting in the hall where there is little air conditioner. Its like 200 people packed in a room with no ventilation or air conditioner. They try to cut cost every where they can. Please dont support a business who doesnt care for its patrons and more of all is a health hazard.
1 hour line to get in after buying a ticket. Clearly way oversold the event. been coming here for years but they have really ruined it. Buyers beware. Decent venue but I wouldn’t wait more than 10 minutes for it, especially given the other quality venues in Brooklyn with no lines
Small shareable plates, but it was all very delicious! Would absolutely recommend the carrots, the burrata, and the cheesecake. My friends also said the tacos were one of their favorites, but I did not get a chance to try them. One of my friends also said that brunch was even better, so I’m excited to go back again and try it myself.
Vibey place that serves a wide selection of drinks and vegan dishes. I came for brunch and the space was airy, bright, and filled with beautiful greens. The shiso cocktail was delicious, also the burrito bowl and the biscuits and gravy (sorry didn’t take pictures because we ate too fast). The records are unique and are played via high quality speakers that sound and look amazing. I would definitely want to come back for dinner / late nights next time to experience the full potential of this place.
Whats the point of having a nice sound system if the whole time you are trying to enjoy a string quartet, there is pounding electronic music coming through from upstairs. Its 9 pm on a Sunday, and the dance party doesnt need to be so loud as to be heard in the other event, or they just shouldnt double book.
Potentially hellish lines and ungodly crowds but typically the vibe is worth it. Had the absolute time of my life a few weeks ago when they even had a LIVE saxophonist and singer in addition to the set.Overall, a few main spaces to choose from with the main room very very moody and loud. Upstairs room is a bit calmer if you’re looking for someplace to sit and chat though!
Horrible crowd, venue, staff, door people. For a venue ran by someone who’s been in the scene for so long and booking amazing underground DJs.. this is not the vibe.If you are going for the music stick to the Bushwick area venues.
Absolutely horrified at my experience. rude and unprofessional staff! this place is two blocks from the projects and youre going to overprice everything without a care for humanity? DO NOT give your hard earned money to this pretentious hipster venue whose staff will not hesitate to become aggressive to people for asking questions. my time at this venue was horrible and i felt belittled and mocked the whole time by the snobbish staff. they do not care for their patrons, they only care for money.
Whether it an event hosted here, dinner, drinks, or brunch, it’s always such a fun & cute vibe here. The space is beautiful in the day time and swanky in the evening.
I dropped in to try the vegan croissant collaboration with L’appartment 4F and stayed to have a coffee and do some work on my laptop. The space has loads of natural sunlight, the music is great, the coffee is excellent, and the wifi is fast. I had a fantastic experience and will definitely be returning.
So disappointed. I couldve made tastier food at home. We got about 7 plates and only really liked two -- the tamal and the cheesecake. Also... honestly, can you can let me eat in peace? Our table was circled like hawks and they kept interrupting our conversation every 2 seconds to ask if clearly empty plates and cups could be removed. We were reminded at 7 30 that our reservation ended in an HOUR while we were eating. Can you leave us alone, haha! If youre hesitant that a vegan restaurant wont satisfy you as a non vegan, this place is an unfortunate stereotype.
Gorgeous plant based restaurant. We sat outside in the garden for brunch and enjoyed the Breakfast Bowl and Motepillo, both which I’d describe as an elevated tofu scramble. We tried the brownie for desert and it was overwhelmingly chocolate-y.. . but those with a sweet tooth will enjoy. Looking forward to checking out their evening event programming!
Cool spot. Went on a friday night at 11. We sat at a table in the restaurant and got some drinks. There were people by the bar, but the tables were emptying out. The music was fun. I will say the music was super loud and you couldn’t have a conversation with someone sitting next to you. The drinks were delicious and good price. I could see myself coming back to the restaurant for drinks. As for the sound room, we went after finishing drinks upstairs. The cost to enter was $30. The music was cool but it wasnt really the type of music that I could vibe to for more than 30 minutes. It wasn’t worth paying that much just to get in IMO.
Really love the venue. Usually go for shows at the sound room but this is my first time trying brunch. I really wanted to love it but I felt like the food was over priced for what it is and we were still left hungry after ordering three things to share. The jackfruit tacos are super creative but has way too much cabbage and the pear ricotta toast is super dry and not what we expected at all. It is on a hard multigrain toast rather than soft spongy French toast. The tofu larb is pretty yummy but super hard to get the sauce around the bowl.
Such an amazing place. With lots of space to work with, one cant help falling in like with this venue. Absolutely a MUST for locals and guest patrons.... Mm hmmm
Places like public records are pure joy. The concept of offering a platform for people to dj creative combination of music and share with others is noteworthy and heartwarming . I was there with friends during the AM , so I did not see an actual performance. We went to visit and have coffee. They have VEGAN food and treats !!!! The space is excellent and the location is at the heart of the Brooklyn renaissance. I loved the comfortable space, the welcoming atmosphere, and the progressive yet current vibe.
This is a nice bar and restaurant! Great vibe, good music, and cool crowd. I like most of the cocktails here 👌🏼 one of my favorite places in Brooklyn for sure
I went for the drinks and the music. I stuck to the 333 margarita I believe and woweee it was delicious. I think it was the pear. There was a live dj playing in the main space and a dj set in the back room. When we arrived dinner appeared to still be happening so the tables were reservation only. This was after 10pm. We went straight to the bar and while it was full, the bartenders quickly got to us and we got our drinks. Also simultaneously we got seats at the bar too. After a while we shifted to the outside space, it was not too cold of a winter night so it was fine. There were outdoor tables and chairs with twinkly lights and plants on the outside as well. The music was super chill, the people low key and everyone was just enjoying themselves with their respective groups. I want to return to try the dinner because it did smell good as I walked by. Around 1am the dinner section had emptied out and people who were enjoying their drinks and the dj shifted over to that side. Super cozy, a nice size area if you want to dance and just jam. What a nice place to visit on a Saturday night
Great Room. I went to an event where Dj Spinna played. They have an awesome sound system. The other room which serves as a lounge with vinyl records in it, i havent checked out yet. Great space !!So, Ive been back to public records and had a meal and a drink or 2. I must say, the kimichi/ black rice was delicious. I dont even eat mushrooms but, Robert the waiter said it wouldnt bother me, it didnt. The drinks were on point. The Drink with the smokey tequila is just that; smoky but good. Thanks @ public record
To all the people that depend on reviews such as myself, let me help you out!You MUST try The Cafe at Public Records! Their seasonal drinks are incredible and their staff is so welcoming. It’s hard to find quality coffee like this along with the creative flavors they offer. I will definitely be spending more of my time here and I’m looking forward to see how they grow!
Decent music you’d expect in a club, but the bouncers are rude and it’s badly organized. Everyone trying to leave is standing in a long outdoor line for coat check to pick up their coats. Literally 40 people in line are going to catch a cold while we wait outside with the people coming in. I’ll consider revisiting in the summer…
Best vegan spot in NY. Every dish is unique and delicious! Perfect for big groups. The service is exceptional and super friendly!
Not only is this a great, intimate venue to see a show but the staff here is phenomenal. The acoustics, speakers and sound panels create a full-bodied and warm sound! The staff helped me and my friends out tremendously when one of my friends wasnt feeling well! Really appreciate the GM, Gio, who took particular care in making sure we were all right! Thanks, PR!
Came for an event. $45 for 2 okay cocktails. Nothing special. The kind of place where they include 20% gratuity + tax and then ask you for more. No thanks BK. Not my vibe but Im curious about their live music nights. Pretentious vibes and bartender.
Impeccable service, incredible food, immaculate music and atmosphere. An elevated experience, and yet a very warm environment. I can’t believe I had never been here.
The outdoor seating in combination with the surrounding venues create a unique atmosphere. The best low key place in NYC
I had a great experience here. The staff at this restaurant could not have been nicer and more welcoming. The outdoor garden was well heated and perfect for Covid / social-distancing. The atmosphere was lovely and the food was delicious and well-priced. Also, it was easy to find free street parking in this neighborhood which is always a plus. It is located in an up and coming neighborhood in Brooklyn, but they have really done a nice job here. Lots of space, great ambiance and music. I would definitely be glad to go back.
One of my favourite bars to hangout on a weekend. Weekdays can be nice and quieter too. Been here in different group sizes and it never disappoints. Variety of spaces, great ceiling height and music really add to the space. Food is mostly small plates and vegan but yummy nevertheless. I liked the variety of drinks too.
Public Records is my favorite hidden gem in Brooklyn. Theyve really built something special which is relevant to the needs of many. The have a cafe for grab and go (or stay) coffee. Beautiful restaurant with out door space and an awesome club in the back of the space. The music is always great, theyve live dj in both the restaurant and the back room. The design all around is well thought out and beautiful.
Killer vibes. Can’t be beat. Music is always fire. Tequila was swapped tho :/ the heradura “house” was brutal. Y’all know better. Do better please.
Great outdoor patio and a nice indoor dining area. Cocktail selection is pretty solid, ranging from neat spirits to frozen cocktails. Id recommend getting a reservation for a Friday/Saturday night visit or you might be out of luck. Also, a heads up if youre hungry, they stop serving food at some point in the night.
We went to the event on 24th Feb Saturday 2024, the artists were great and the venue looked really nice with 3 different stages. They had free water easily reachable and decent sound system. The outside area is pretty nice, not many people were hanging out bc its cold, def could be better in spring. However here are some WARNINGs if you are going here:- Late around 12-1 am, there was a 30~ mins line to get in with tickets that they make you wait out in the cold, some people gave up because they needed to go to toilet and there were nowhere around nearby.- The coat check line is quite long and slow, some people were stacking their coats inside and you need to pay as well.- When the music in the atrium finishes (downstairs), they literally kick you out by rushing and being rude to you. They don’t even let you stay outside before getting in.- The last one that went until 4am~ was the sound room, and they close the music suddenly and again kick you out pretty fast.I was having fun but having lived these tense moments unfortunately makes it a bad experience about the place.People just want to have fun, they are drunk and vulnerable, I think there is no need to be this rude. I really expect they would hire friendlier staff that could get along with people in the future. I really would want to chill and have fun than having these memories.
Beautiful venue with amazing sound. Best in the city if you enjoy Hi-Fi audio.
Ignore the bad reviews had a blast here ! Amazing place , was kind of apprehensive to come here bcuz of bad Reddit reviews but this might be the best club in nyc without a doubt, the spot fasho!
Friday night my friend went here and her drink was spiked. This was the only place she went that night and never left it unattended, we believe it was the bartender who served her.We have tried calling to inform them and no one is picking up, which is unacceptable. Please beware.
Awesome bar/restaurant and there is a sound room that you can buy tickets to go into. Plenty of cocktails to pick from as well as a big wine list and spirit list.
Never heard such a sound in a small venue. You can easily transcend for the small talks nearby and immerse in the music before any show starts…immagine when it starts for real.
Great spot to get some work done. Excellent speakers mean that the music is ambient and not disruptive. Solid daytime music selection, too, of course.
Stopped by in the afternoon one day and enjoyed decent food, good drinks, a beautiful space. I was really looking forward to coming back for one of their live sets, but the manager this weekend was racist towards my friend, who had also spoken very highly of the place before. Disappointing!!! Someone needs to let me know when the management changes, sadlyEDIT: Ive seen the reply here. For the record, I am neither of these people and Im not defending myself here personally. The black woman who expressed disappointment with the very slow service by leaving a poor tip at the bar was immediately goaded and accused of harassment by the bartender and was the one who was later approached by security and asked to leave while the person who had (regrettably and in poor judgment) mouthed off at the bartender, in reply to their snarky comment, was not. It certainly seemed retaliatory for the low tip and discriminatory in the way that security selected the person to blame. I believe this is a good cause for future patrons to be concerned. Even if the exceptionally poor service that prompted this exchange was an accident rather than discrimination, the fact that this even occurred suggests that they are understaffed for the capacity they need on a weekend night. Additionally, if the service charge is mandatory regardless of the quality of service, it should be included in the menu prices. Given a choice between the customers word and the staffs word as to who initiated the conflict and how, its always possible to make a decision that is unfair to one party, which is why this is ultimately a poor way to handle the situation and puts future patrons and staff at risk of an unpleasant experience until the bar changes some things about their environment. Under-staffing and a tipping system created a hostile and high-tension atmosphere and, in the future, I hope that the management realizes the importance of staffing extra people on their busy nights, chooses to include the expected gratuity/service charge in the menu prices to eliminate friction between customers and staff, and attempts to resolve conflicts verbally before escalating to calling security. Im unclear if security chose to approach my friend specifically out of the group due to deliberate miscommunication from the bartender or discriminatory assumptions on their own part, but this situation might have been avoided if management had attempted to talk to the party first before committing to this escalation. This incident was a while ago and it is possible that the bartender and manager at the time no longer even work there, but since the business added their account I think its only fair to mention the context and perspective that they never sought at the time when they sicced security on my friend and did not understand why it would be concerning for her to be singled out in this way in this environment and blaming her in a situation which she was not responsible for escalating. Although this is not my personal fight, this upsetting incident continues to dampen my enthusiasm about the place since I am not comfortable coming here knowing that they treated my friend so poorly and unfairly, and even if I returned for a show I would not buy drinks because I do not trust all their bartenders or their judgement, but I still hope the institution has changed in the time since this has happened.
Rude door people. Mid music. Long lines. Hard to leave.Music is not good enough to warrant the pretentiousness.
Positive:Staff was friendly and attentive. Location is beautiful. Music tasteful and not too loud, do we could have a conversation.Negative: got a tiny table in the hallway. Food looked very attractive, but some of our dishes were cold. All dishes were missing something. For example, the Chile potatoes did not really pair well with the sauce they came with. The rigatoni dish tasted rather flat. Portions were rather small. Paid 200 for 2 people and were still hungry.
The music was excellent and the speaker system was top notch. Every drink I got was relatively tasty and not ridiculously expensive, on par for a club in NY.However, I have rarely experienced a more abhorrent crowd in my life. I must have gotten slammed into 10+ times by hammered people, shoved through by gaggles of individuals with no regard for space, and people constantly inserting themselves in front of others. The coat check was the worst part, being told there’s one way to get our coats in a 30 person line of which MANY people proceeded to just cut to the other side with no regard.
We didnt know that they didnt serve food on Sundays, but the coffee was great and so was the barista.
The vibe of this place is really cool and the service is great. However, the main reason we came was for the food which was just ok. The dishes were nicely decorated and decent size but unfortunately we did not like all the flavors. Most of the dishes felt bitter or like something was off, trying to be something it’s not. The tostadas were great though
Pretty cool spot in Brooklyn for nightlife. The sound system was better than expected. I would say the music the artists played was not generally something I would listen to but still enjoyed the experience.
Went for Soul Summit and had so much fun a great spot for drinks and live music!!
I have not tasted the food this bad in long time. It was my wife birthday and she was very excited to repeat her experience of last year. We ordered everything on the menu and every dish was mediocre tasteless. I did not expected this for the vegetarian place. What disappointment!!!.
I never go for vegan food, but this place is the best. One of my favorite places to eat or go out in the hood. Whenever I have friends in from out of town, I take them for food, shows in the sound room, or drinks in the upstairs lounge.
Always an amazing time at Public Records. With the addition of the upstairs lounge they truly have catered to all types of vibes.
Love coming here in the daytime for a coffee and the excellent atmosphere. It is a great hangout spot at night with lots of space and great drinks. Haven’t been for dinner yet but hopefully will go soon. Concerts here are VERY loud so bring ear protection!
We hosted a birthday dinner party and the service was impeccable! They were extremely accommodating and the food was delicious. The entire staff is lovely and easy to work with. Highly recommend for any event!!
Tip Scam ‼️ This place automatically places 20% tip on any drink order without telling you or showing you the bill then requests another 22% more ❌Public Records was a decent nightlife venue, but I don’t respect when places scam you for tips like that. I ended up unknowingly tipping 42% for a total bill of $82 for two tiny cocktails and a beer. The drinks are overpriced anyway to start. If I hadn’t specifically requested my receipt to verify the outrageous number I saw on the screen (which made no sense based on the supposed menu prices), then I would have never known.I always support tipping service workers, but customers deserve transparency on prices. I would avoid this place at all costs until they stop this practice.
I have come here for the vegan pastries in the entry coffee shop, but it seems like 4 out if the 5 times I have been, they are closed. Seems like this place cant decide what it wants to be -- if they are only interested in renting the space out for private parties, so be it. My main interest is in preventing people from making a trip there for a cup of coffee and vegan pastry, and then being turned away -- the hours posted on googke maps are simply not honest.
Daytime cafe review:Fine enough spot to work. Music could be a little distracting; coffee was fine; only a few munching options. No regular milk 😂 just almond or oat. Wait stuff could’ve been nicer, but hey it’s a hipster music spot in BK, what could you expect? LolNice design and feel, but what really sold me was how spacious it was—not your typical northern BK cafe everyone’s packed in working shoulder to shoulder. Could use more outlets though.
The place is no doubts very cool and hip, cocktails are great. but one situation completely spoiled the impression. me and my friend asked for a table around 10pm today and were told that there’s no more service. no problem, we took some space at the bar, sharing one stool, and ordered pasta and two cocktails to share.first, we get the the check and the waiter says that it’s not possible to tap apple pay. when we say that we don’t have cards on us, suddenly a terminal appears and works just fine. what’s that about?once we get the bill, we tip $2. we know it’s not much but we are standing at the bar in a corner in an uncomfortable way while there are empty tables around. where we come from, you generously tip, but only if you get good service. also we have just arrived to the US and have never seen such a way to leave tips when you write it on a check.a couple of minutes later, the waiter comes back and (in quite a rude manner) says that you can’t leave a tip like that. he says it’s america not europe and that it’s not his fault we are standing.what good does this do to the business? only spoils the mood and makes me want to leave.i was going to get a t-shirt as a souvenir but now i don’t want to remember this place.i took the time to write all this because it’s a lovely place but there should be some effort put into staff training and service.
Ideal venue. Great outdoor area, sound system ✅, they choose interesting artists
Had to wait in line 3 times for coat check ($4 per item btw) just to be turned away at the front each time, and the woman was extremely rude about it. Spent the rest of the night bumping to mid music with a remarkably unenthusiastic crowd in an aethetically uninspired room holding lamely onto my coat after paying >$100 to get berated by staff. Awful experience, definitely avoid.
Fun ambiance and really amazing main course food. Had the smoked tofu and it was the most interesting and indulgent flavor and texture I’ve had in quite awhile, studded with pine nuts and wild rice to create a balanced dish. The dessert wasn’t great, hence the 4 stars. Fun ambiance and great cocktails for a weekend evening!
The best venue Ive been to in a long while. The space is beautiful...a little crowded perhaps. All the staff are courteous and on point. Drinks are delicious, spendy, but you get what you pay for to be certain.
I’m conflicted about this place. The mushroom tacos was probably one of the best bites I’ve ever had, vegan or not. The desserts are also brilliant, couldn’t even tell they are vegan. Service also is superb and the drinks are great. However some of the dishes are incredibly salty, like the kimchi fried rice. Others, are extremely bland and uninteresting. Would definitely return for the tacos though.
Two stars because recently, at Eli Escobar, it was truly, unpleasantly oversold, and I was groped by a bro on the dance floor. Also, a friend who is visibly gay and not new to nightlife had his pockets searched, while my straight-passing friends and I weren’t. He then heard straight men in the bathroom line using gay as a slur?Management, if you care about your venue, please tell me you know which customers you need to be catering too. it’s not straight men..
Gorgeous, calming atmosphere for the Sunday brunch. The music was serene, drinks were delicious and food was satisfactory for vegan offerings. I will note that the portions are light, so don’t come here very hungry. But be prepared to be awed by the space, ambiance and amazing service.
Ideal spot for an intimate dinner. The food is incredible and you can taste every flavor. The mushroom tacos were show-stopping. The hostess and servers were so nice and were able to squeeze us in for a last min reservation. Next time we will def be checking out the music space.
Was there for a concert and didn’t know what to expect. While we waited for the show to start we went in to see about this bar and restaurantWe were pleasantly surprised.Sure, a little on the hipster side, but not in a bad way. They had some signature drinks that’s were really good.Prices were averageIf I’m in that part of BK again, I’ll stop in.
This is the soundsystem NYC deserves! It was bumping! There was so much bass but the mids and highs were still clear. The place is built for speed. The club bar is sparse with few options so the line moves fast. The cups are made of metal so you dont have to worry about broken glass. The restrooms are also built for speed since they are multigender. The other bar in the front was beautiful, I didnt really spend much time in there but I took a tour of it. There was a DJ booth in there as well, but it looked like they hung up the bass bins so there was no low end in the sound in there. It also looked like they had a lot more drink options at the bar than the club side, which makes sense. There were also some light food options, and a cafe in the front but it was closed at the time.
There are few things that would bring me to Gowanus, living in North Brooklyn, and I can actually say with confidence that I would come back here to visit Public Records. When you walk in you get a sense of calm and good vibes. Come for a drink, meet a friend or read a book with a cup of coffee. No matter what type of day you’d want to star tor end with. Public records can fit in perfectly.
Have been excited to check out this spot for some time. Went last Saturday night and everything was fine but definitely pretentious and probably a little racist. The bartender was serving every other *white* person except my crew who were not white. Was definitely upset with that kind of treatment
Upstairs at Public Records is a very cool bar. The music is great, and the drinks are well crafted, the crowd is cool. The servers are generally nice (even if very pushy). I’ve always liked to come here late for a night cap, and usually had a fun, low key time. That is, until I decided to come here for a special occasion. It was my mom’s birthday (who came all the way from Brazil to spend her birthday with me), and being that she loves a good cocktail and the kind of music they’re usually playing at PR, I figured coming here early to enjoy the lounge-y vibe before the late night crowds came in would be perfect. She had 3 friends in from Brazil as well, and my partner and her husband would be joining, so we booked a table for 7 for their opening time at 8pm. Because 5 other friends would maybe want to come to say happy birthday as well, I emailed them to ask whether accommodating 5 more was a possibility. They said this wouldn’t be a problem, but this would then be a “semi-private party” (whatever that means — we would still be sitting at the exact same spot), so they would charge us a minimum of $70 per person (to be consumed within 3h, for drinks ONLY), and require a non refundable deposit of 50% of the total minimum amount. Finding this absurd but not wanting to get into it, I said, thank you very much, if this is the case I will keep the party small as originally planned. (70 bucks per person sounds like an ungodly amount of alcohol, besides the weather had been iffy, and who knoif everyone would even make it). They didn’t reply.Fast forward to yesterday, I arrived promptly at 8 o’clock, and instead of “good evening” the host told me quite aggressively that if there were more than 7 people, they would charge my card for the minimum they had outlined over email. I found that remark quite uncalled for, but said fine, since I had already uninvited all the additional people. The only snag was that shortly after I arrived, a couple of friends, also from Brazil, who hadn’t seen my mom in ages and also happened to be in town, texted me asking if there was really no way could come and maybe just hang out at a separate table or at the bar, start an entirely separate tab, just to say hello to her on her birthday. My mom really wanted to see them as well, so my partner went to check in with the host to see what could be done about it. The place wasn’t crowded early in the night, and we were at a spacious table that had 2 full spare seats. Here’s the gem he heard back from the petty tyrant in a tiny beanie and magician mustache at the front desk: the two people could come and start a different tab at the bar, but they were not allowed to sit down on the spare seats we had a the table. If they hung out while standing up, that was fine. If they sat down, they would charge my card for $770. We asked: can we take turns on who’s sitting and who’s standing? The answer was no. If anyone we knew sat down at any point, we would be charged.Of course, these two friends ended up skipping, but all night, random people we didn’t know kept on taking the empty seats (which was fine by us since they were empty lol)I understand it’s a restaurant policy, and front desk workers don’t always have the necessary pull to accommodate exceptions, which I totally get. This host, however, was incredibly rude and smug about this at every step of the way and showed absolutely no willingness to even try to work something out, or even say something like I’m really sorry but there is truly nothing I can do about this and the people who could are not reachable right now. Idk if he thought his place of work was too cool for someone’s mother and her friends or if he takes some sort of pleasure in enforcing rules to the point where they become non-sensical, but this very sadly put a hamper on a very special day when it really seems like it didn’t need to.I used to come here at least once a month, would recommend it to friends, but after this experience I’m no longer interested in giving these people my business.
This review is for the upstairs bar/lounge area: drinks were expensive (cheapest $19 and goes up from there) and could be hit or miss, out if the ones we tried, 001 and 002 were good, 006 was strange. The music was also weird and very very loud, had to yell to talk to the person next to me. on the other hand, the waitstaff are nice.not some place i would go back to but may be worth trying once to see if its your vibe
Delicious vegan food (I got the oyster mushroom tacos) and an impressive list of non-alcoholic cocktails: multiple shrubs, cocktails, and n/a beer.
Lovely brunch and coffee place with decent portions, great vibes and amazing service. Food took a while due to some issues in the kitchen but the staff were proactive enough to offer a free drink on the house, which was very nice of them. Got the biscuits and gravy which were alright, could do with more exciting flavors, but a pleasant experience overall
Love this place- great ambiance and solid vegan menu
Definitely one of the best nights Ive had in a long time! The food was incredible, the venue is stunning, and the late night dancing in the back room was so much fun! This place is not to be missed! Dont sleep on the upstairs cocktail lounge either, the drinks were mind blowing!!
The vegan restaurant is amazing, although the bar has house cocktails which are too sweet. It would be good to indicate on the menus whether a cocktail is sweet etc.
Nice vibe excellent atmosphere. The Parking Tiki drink was my favorite a smooth concoction that was smooth and different from what drinks you find out there. Had a few Parking Tikis and the tacos soooo good!
Absolutely delicious vegan food, amazing cocktails and fun atmosphere. Will need to stay for the DJs next time.
Do NOT go see music here. Tickets cost $23 and at 10:30 (on a Saturday night!) they pulled the plug on the headliner!! They shut the sound system down in the middle of a song!! Then they announced the band had to stop playing. Clearly no one told the band they had to stop playing at 10:30, they were just as surprised as the audience was. They turned on the overhead lights and several bouncers aggressively corralled people out, flashing strobe lights at everyone. Also the opening band was delayed because the “state of the art” sound system wasn’t working when they started playing, and the sound man was nowhere to be found. On top of all that, the drinks were over priced, the door person was incredibly rude and coat check was $4. Public Records is a money grabbing, rip off, scam. Fancy venue with no integrity. Not my New York.
Love the food, the service, the vibe!Had a vegan nice dinner with some drinks!Perfect! And here’s a little problem, we went to see Nicolas Cruz, but the space was totally overcrowded, can’t go in without having to touch and bother people. Also, the event said « Nicolas Cruz » at 10:30pm, between diner and that time, we stood 3 hours there waiting for the set, it’s horrible that this isn’t clear, ended up leaving at 12:30 and we didn’t get to see the artist that we actually went to see and who actually started after midnight. I respect the line up, if there’s one. But to bring people that early, without any clarity, and to overload the space to a point of « hard to be there » is a bit too much, sadly!
Special place. The indoor is beautiful, serving amazing cocktails and small plates. On a nice day the outdoor area is a great alternative to hang out, and they also have a music venue that’s a must for concert lovers.
The experience at Public Records is singular. We had drinks at the upstairs section of the bar. The soundtrack was unique, blaring through an incredible set of speakers hooked up to a reel-to-reel tape player. The cocktail menu was inventive and expansive. And sure, the drinks were a little pricey. But all in all, it was a lovely time. I will be back!
Everyone was really nice but this place is hilariously peak Brooklyn vegan bad. The smoked tofu tasted like a slab of tofu someone found in a refrigerator, possibly mine, and decided to dress up. Someone brought us the wrong drinks and then another person forgot my friends drink for like 15 minutes and then didn’t apologize. Overstaffed but also it was somehow hard to flag anyone down. Three stars for effort and ambiance and nice people, maybe it was an off-night. The cocktails looked good?
The people who worked here the night of Blacktronika were extremely rude, specially the coat check/ticket check at the front. Probably never coming back.
Everyone front of house was unnecessarily rude, specifically the restaurant hostess, the garden attendant, and the *secret upstairs doorman*. Otherwise the employees inside (behind both bars) and the quality of drinks were great. There are dozens of places like this around the world and this came across as very pretentious. Not very interested in going back as a result
By far the rudest staff and worst nightlife experience I’ve had in NYC. First up, it’s basically a scam because everyone there is trying to charge money, but a different amount so you know it’s not real. They rejected people who had paid by saying it was closed, but were charging new people to come in. Total scam. Not to mention, the door people were straight up rude to everyone. The “club” portion is awful. It might be the music they were playing, but it was a weird crowd of predominately older men standing around and not dancing. The vibes were definitely off if you’re below 30 or a woman and the music was bad.In all fairness, the upstairs spot was fine. The real problem is the rude/scammy staff and the “dancing” areas.
Super dope intimate venue. had the pleasure of catching Issy Wood here!!!
I think this is one of the best if not the best club in NYC. Its beautiful, thoughtfully and meticulously designed, the sound is custom and incredible (and not too loud), and there are all these other parts to it... The cafe, the outdoor section, upstairs, and soon a nursery. Its nothing short of perfect.
Although public records is a generally great space, we had a really awful experience at their new outdoor venue, the nursery. The main act was cut off halfway through their act with no warning either to the performer or the audience. I understand that they’re not allowed to play music after a certain time, but there should have been communication before that moment. They even made the performer tell us that they were cut off, rather than having management do it. Then, when the event is over, you’re not allowed back into the bar, even to close out a tab. You have to go back out and wait in line to re-enter. They don’t even have a place for you to leave empty drinks other than the shrubs along the way?? I was very unimpressed with the planning and left the concert angry instead of happy.
I can’t say enough good things about this place. The attention to detail from interior design, sound quality, layout, beverages, etc. Having visited most music venues that offer discerning music options, this is a stand out. Must visit.
It would have been great if they had an air conditioner.
Watching them make the drinks, the craft and specificity that comes with each one, was memorizing on its own, great menu and nice atmosphere
Have to say I was pretty disappointed by this place. The food looked beautiful, but was actually quite bad. The pasta was undercooked and tough/thick, and seemed way oversalted. The cashew burrata was fine but im convinced it was just Miyokos vegan butter. The wine was also just alright but again, too expensive for what it was at $13 a glass. The food portions were also pretty small.
Not sure what’s going on but they said doors open at 7:30, instead it’s 8:30 and no notice has been given out as to how much longer we must wait for performers to begin. I was also told by the bartender retroactively to tip because he makes a living on this; I would understand if not for the fact that the cocktail already cost $15 and it was scooped out of a container. The whole purchasing transaction did not take any longer than 30 seconds. The bartender simply scooped a drink and handed me a beer. After I left the bar, he came and educated me on the fact that I should have tipped. Instead of putting the burden on consumers to help your staff members survive in nyc, perhaps think of ways to improve the quality of your service so attendees feel happy to pay more?
Love injection event was not well organized--understaffed and insufficient bathrooms for a crowd of this size.
Ambiance and food was good. Im not vegan but this was tasty I didnt miss meat at all with my food ( we ordered once of everything on the menu to taste) everything was delicious even to the vegan lovers standards at the table. The drink menu was a bit limited BUT I had a sweet yet refreshing drink (for get the name, it was a peachy pink color) at first I was like why did they put this drink in a short glass and still only filled it half a glass foam and all.... I had 4 because I was thirsty lol thinking it was gonna do anything...lord when I got up smh 🤦 😅 lets just say I woke up with a hangover.
The place itself is nice, the crowd it attracts can be annoying
Really enjoyed the ambiance; the dinner food was fine but nothing too special. We got all 3 entrees and none of them tasted bad but none was amazing — in order, I liked 1. Smoked tofu, 2. The other tofu dish with mushroom, 3. Vermicelli - the noodles tasted slightly undercooked. We also got 3 appetizers - loved the ricotta toast, thought the gem salad was fine, don’t remember what the 3rd app was.It was fun to share all the dishes across a group of friends; I think I would have been disappointed if I’d had to eat any whole entry by myself. The variety made it more fun given the average taste of the food. Note: for 4 people we were full after 3 apps + 1 entree.
Overpriced bougie vegan spot. Nice cocktail menu. Food is alright, but not as good as it should have been for how much we paid. The desserts looked v cute but tasted pretty mediocre - mole brownie with horchata ice cream had very overwhelming, bordering on unpleasant textures. the ice cream was grainy and the brownie was thicccc.Overall, non-vegans and vegans alike were unimpressed with dinner.
The best coffee mocktails! Food is creative and delicious!
Great spot! Big speakers. Analog I believe. Sound for the heads
One of the best venues for concerts and community building in the city.
Probably the best dining experience Ive had in NYC ever. So happy this place exists and also doubles as a music venue. I was so in love with everything, food, wine, ambience, service, music. Everything was spectacular. Definitely coming back and bringing everyone I know to this beautiful restaurant. Good work!
A wonderful place for birthdays or meeting friends i recommend it
Have only been to the venue, which is cozy and intimate with fantastic sound system. However the line to get in was long and slow as there was only one guy checking ID and one guy scanning tickets. This guy was also in charge of coat check (which requires people to put their phone number into a tablet) so I guess that was the holdup. Not sure if it’s always like this or they were just understaffed but I didn’t love waiting in the cold for 30 min while people trickled in 4 at a time.
Music, lights, drinks, vibes. While it was a busy Saturday night when we arrived to wait in line, the line moved quickly and we were dancing in no time. The speakers are good hear and the experienced DJs flexed them appropriately. We didnt have a chance to eat here but are looking forward to coming back.
Food 1 star, drinks and vibes were great
Restaurante has wonderful vibes. Food was delicious very tasty! Service is amazing Raquel our server was very kind and taking care of all the details! Thank you for such great moment ✨
Great venue, great music and speaker quality and really friendly and attentive service. However, food was very overpriced for what it was. Most dishes that we ordered came out worryingly fast (no time to get excited or talk to party) and seemed like plates that were made to look presentable but were ultimately cold and pre-made. In particular, the tofu larb lacked other textures to cut the softness of the tofu and the tacos were under seasoned and brittle. Next table to us we’re also disappointed, having visited before with better reviews.I am vegan and was really looking forward to this fine dining vegan experience. Lots of effort had evidently been put into the menu which unfortunately didn’t translate to plate!
The best coffee Ive had in Brooklyn hands down. Its an amazing spot to hang out with friends and look through the newest issues of indie fashion and photography magazines as well as rare vinyl. The staff are warm, the interior is chic, the playlists are always relaxing, and there is a ton of natural sunlight. Love love love going here. The speciality/seasonal drinks are also always stunners!
We went here Wednesday night and it was great. Beautiful interior. Really friendly bartenders who didnt hesitate to give advice. The cocktails were excellent! The one thing I would say is that the food wasnt outstanding, but I really appreciate the effort that went into it all the same. Its clear that the chef was trying to put together a menu that was refined, tasty, and totally vegan - which is great. There were just a couple of things that missed the mark a bit e.g. the chilled melon (which we relayed to the bartender) didnt really work. The Japanese yams were tasty but the broccoli was strangely bitter. The peppers were good but tasted slightly boozy and not in a good way. The rice was really standard for the price paid. However, Im not going to give less than the 5 stars because I did enjoy the food, and everything else about the night more than made up for the slight shortcomings. Id definitely go here again and will recommend it to others.
I love the simplistic, old factory like building: high ceiling, and brick walls. In addition to the main spacious space, Public Rocords offers a pleasant indoor waiting room space and an outdoor dining area. This all vegan restaurant is packed; dont forget to reserve a table ahead of time.
Worst experience ever. Extremely bad customer service.
A fantastic place to enjoy independent music. Wish they were more accurate in their marketing regarding the showtimes, though. They said the show would start at 7. So we went there at 6:45 only to hear the show would start at 8. Theres not much around there so we had no choice but to go sit inside and buy drinks. Not sure if this was an intentional game on their side but not cool!
Witnessed a terribly handled medical situation that made me feel unsafe. Watched a young woman ahead of me in line to go inside on a Saturday night faint and fall backwards hitting her head on the sidewalk. As we rushed to help and her friend notified security, they told her to wait as they continued to scan tickets. Then they said they would go to their car for water as she simply asked to have someone quickly come out to help check on her friend who’s head had hit the pavement. After we moved the young woman to the curb outside of the line, a manager/authority figure came out to lecture them on how they’re definitely not getting inside as they distressingly were asking for help. The crowd was helpful, as people gave them space and someone who maybe had medical experience checked in. The staff did nothing despite many in the crowd calling for help and clearly giving signs that there was a medical situation. Eventually the manager realized that this maybe was an issue and came back out to ask if she was ok. But basically they were left at the curb until she fully came to consciousness and then left on their own to figure out what to do. I hope everything turned out ok, but the negligence and lack of preparedness for medical emergencies on part of the staff/management is horrific. I will be telling everyone I know about this and avoiding this venue. They are lucky this wasn’t worse and landing them in the news. It was very clear they did not want to help or anything to do with what was happening, after repeated attempts to notify them of a medical issue. Incredibly dangerous and disappointing for a nightlife venue.
Super cool interior vibes, good music only!
Love the vibe of this place. Indoor seating is definitely more of the vibe with the wood and hanging pants. There are heaters and some coverage outdoors in case it rains. Food was really delicious as well; the “bread with butter” is really a cornbread with jalapeño butter, so you get that nice sweet and spicy. The mushroom tacos were a favorite, as was the beets. Just be mindful that the menu you see on their website doesn’t reflect what they have at the time you’re seated. (The wine list wasn’t as long / neither was the food menu). Would definitely love to come back to check out a show - tickets for that should be purchased in advance
Come here for drinks and ambient music. Do not come hungry… you will leave more hungry than you were before. Spent 15 dollars on one piece of bread with cheese and pear slices on it. 20 bucks for some tomatoes sliced in olive oil. 30 bucks on pasta with some nasty squash paste…eat before you come.
If I would have drawn a picture of the perfect place I always wanted to open, it probably would have looked exactly like public records. The space is thoughtfully designed, from the coffee/record shop to the vegan restaurant… and the club has the best PA I have ever experienced and probably is in the top 10 worldwide. After having been there many times the only things that didn’t work for me were the cocktails and the crowd at the sound room. It’s usually more a talking party, not a dance party. Every time I went rarely anyone dances. But well... Definitely a place everyone should have seen once.
Nice spot! This is actually just a block from my work so it’s always a relaxing night life spot in the heart of boreum hill. I wouldn’t have discovered this had it not been for the records and coffee stand in the front window, and upon realizing the menu was 100% vegan/plant-based I had to try it. My girlfriend and I went in and enjoyed an appetizer and a couple drinks. Portion sizes were decent yet slightly on the smaller end, and definitely Brooklyn prices, but the atmosphere, live DJ’ing and quality of the food makes Public Records a notable addition to any vegan’s list of spots for a date night in a new location. 5/5
Do not tip here! They charge an automatic 20% tip without telling you. I tipped 22% on top of that, leaving me tipping 42% 🤪🥴 no no no I used to love this place. Sad day
One of the most consistently good coffees places Ive been to in a while. Very pleasant atmosphere too
A very unique venue with great music
Coffee shop, Restaurant, Live music and DJs, this place is super fun to spend a night and dance 🪩
What a lovely night out! The dance floor is spacious and the whole venue is very tastefully decorated. The music when I went was on point, the bartenders and bouncers were kind, and the gardens outside are perfect for getting some fresh air. Stylish without pretension. I recommend this spot highly. Will definitely return!
