Sydney is the best hair stylist! I have done balayage and then dark chocolate brown all over with her as well. Both times she has completely nailed it without any damage to my hair. Her hair knowledge and chemistry is unmatched. She’s also extremely personable and takes her time to achieve exactly what you are looking for. My former stylist Sydney Nason now works here and to say she is 5 stars would be selling her short! She is absolutely amazing. Not only is her service itself a wonderful experience and executed so beautifully but she is the kindest and funniest person you’ll ever meet! She makes you feel so comfortable and truly dedicates the time to make sure she knows exactly what your goal is and the plan for how to get there. She is patient, realistic, hardworking, SO knowledgeable, honest, and insanely talented. She has taken care of me since 2019 and although I miss her dearly I’m so glad that I get to see her pass on her magic to all of you wonderful ND folks!

I am a regular at Avant Salon downtown location. My stylist is Kayla and she is great. She is knowledgeable, stylish, keeps it real, and takes great care of me. My hair is always just the way I like it. Avant has a great vibe with a very friendly staff. They offer great products but arent pushy about promoting them. The decor is serene and welcoming. The staff is professional and courteous. The appointment confirmation texts are convenient. It is in a great location with plenty of parking. So all the amenities are nice, but its the stylists that make this a great place. I see a nice variety of clients from young to old, trendy to conservative and all leave looking great and satisfied. I wish I could leave 10 stars!!

Sydney was my hair stylist before she moved from my city, there’s no one after Sydney id let touch my hair. She gave me the most gorgeous blue hair, copper hair, bright fiery orange hair, black hair and of course the healthiest hair ever. She has been doing my hair for 4 years and I’ve bleached and colored my hair plenty of times with her after my black box dye disasters and my hair has never once looked dead. I ask for the most and she DELIVERS. So sad she’s not in Tennessee anymore but so happy for her and so jealous over her new clients, they get to have an awesome sweet kind and loving magician of a hair stylist

Kayla is amazing! I’ve gone to her twice and she has cut my hair perfectly every time. Both times I’ve gotten tons of compliments on my hair. She is also very sweet and Pays very close attention to small details, such as the bangs I was going for.The salon itself is very clean and their complimentary lemonade is to die for! All their products are amazing as well.Highly recommend

I went in for a highlight and cut and could not be happier! The salon was warm and inviting and smelled wonderful!Kenady solicited my opinion at each step to ensure the color and cut were what I expected. For the first time in 30 years, I did not come home and have to restyle my hair! Great experience!!

I went in for a trim and some layers and I’m usually nervous to get my hair cut since I have curly hair but my stylist (Jade) asked me questions and made sure she knew exactly what I was looking for. I made a suggestion for face framing and she advised it wasn’t the best idea since she didn’t want to ruin my curl pattern. She was very kind and had real conversations with me, not the awkward small talk. Great experience!

Kayla is so friendly and talented. I always leave obsessed with my hair! I’m very introverted and I feel so comfy with Kayla! The salon itself is clean and professional. Feels like a mini vacation whenever I go! 100/10 recommend, especially if you’re thinking about going red!!

Got my hair done today with Jade and she was just fantastic! Super nice and chatty, did an amazing job on my hair, and helped me figure out how to have healthier hair. Honestly the best experience I’ve had at a salon in a long time. Also Jade does really well with knowing what styles match your face shape and hair type. Highly recommend!!

I went in for a balayage/cut with Jade as my stylist and she did a wonderful job. I had/have pretty long hair so the price was $60 short of half a grand. Wasn’t really what I was expecting to spend or wanted to spend but I am happy with how my hair turned out!

I have been to Avant downtown a few times now and always have a wonderful, pleasant experience. The stylist helped me get as close to my desired color as possible, and was kind and asked me questions here and there without it being overwhelming or too much like small talk. She did an amazing job on my hair and I always highly recommend Avant for hair needs.

So upset with my experience. I drove 1 hour away because the small town I have lived in for 6 years, doesnt have a stylist who can cut my hair.I was placed with a MASTER stylist and from their work youd think a student did my hair.The stylist didnt explain shed be doing a scalp massage so it was super awkward at first. She took me to the shampoo bowl and didnt get the back of my head wet when she washed me. When she was done washing the top of my head she left me dripping wet as I walked back to her chair. I continued to sit there dripping wet as she brushed through it. I have a lot of ear piercings and she raked over them. I understand not being used to combing pierced ears but every time she caught an earring, shed pull, realized it was caught, start back at the top and get caught AGAIN. Once she started cutting it took her an hour to cut my hair. My hair was 2 inches below my jawline. I told her to buzz my hairline because I have a rat tail type of hairline. She refused and used her scissors. The back of my hair looks like she was trying to cut a wave into it. The left side is noticeably shorter than the right side and my hair is cut to my jaw line. Then when it came time for the hand massage, she used WAY too much lotion and then proceeded to add more to my hand and arm. She left me like that. The ring and bracelet I was wearing were gunked up with lotion. I had to wipe my hands on my pants to get my hands dry enough to get my card out to pay.I couldnt tell my hair was this jacked until the next day when I washed and styled it. Im not driving an hour back to have them fix it because their MASTER stylist couldnt even do it right.

My experience in Avant was refreshing. From the moment I came in the establishment, smelling like rosemary mint maybe?, well illuminated and open concept, with big windows and balanced decorations, until I left with my super soft and shiny new haircut. It felt as I was going into a luxurious spa rather than to get a hair cut. Shortly after checking with the receptionist, Atlantis (I apologize as I probably misspelled her name), came to greet me with a smile. She patiently listened as I was clumsily trying to describe what more or less I wanted done with my hair. Gentle combing, scalp massage and hair washing followed. It was really relaxing and enjoyable. She cut my hair quick and true. I really liked it! It was really refreshing! Then she dried and combed my hair to finish it with the most beautiful light curls. I was glowing! I found looking forward for my hair to grow so I could get another haircut with Atlantis. Then again, Im sure I can find another reason to go back to Avant earlier ;)Thank you!

I got my haircut here today and let me just say, Jaleesa did an amazing job and made me feel very welcomed and comfortable. I made sure to have the lady at the desk tell her how much I appreciated it especially since the last two times I had tried a new salon it didn’t go well. I will definitely be coming back the next time I need my hair cut!

You know how true fashion never really goes out of style? Well magic fingers did it again! I told her my vision, and she immediately went to work. When she turned me around to look at the finished style I was amazed. She took a timeless style, but updated it with her expert eye to personalize it to me. TAMMI is the best!

My hair is still damaged from going here over six months ago. I only did two partial balayages and I did a botanical treatment and trim with each one and trims and botanical treatments after for months. I stopped going here last fall and my hair is so damaged still some days I just cry regretting ever going here. Hoping my new stylist can do something I’ve never had this problem until I went here. The last time I went the “master stylist” asked me during a cut who did my hair it was so damaged and I told him I went there, and only there. Before that my hair was buzzed and was all new growth and was thick and healthy and I let it grow to my ears before going to this salon.My hair is absolutely destroyed and I won’t be surprised if I have to cut most of it off and start over after growing it out for two years and it finally being to my shoulders… heartbroken. My hair is so thin and damaged and frail now it makes me feel so insecure about it. The last salon who gave me a balayage I couldn’t even tell it was damaged so I know this is not right. I would go anywhere else.

I went for haircuts at Avant for 3 years. 2.5 of those years were with Jaleesa. She is the best hairdresser Ive ever had!! I have naturally curly hair. I have always had a hard time finding stylist who can cut and style curly hair, but Jaleesa did an OUTSTANDING job every time! Most of the time after a haircut, I cant even run errands because my hair is styled in such a wild way (curly girls you know!), but with Jaleesa, I always left the salon looking errand ready! My cut was always well done and still looked good even when it started growing out. My grandpa is a barber and always said, a good stylist cuts your hair in a way that it looks good when it grows out, so I took note! She is kind and friendly, and I loved getting to know her. Im a major introvert, but she always made me feel comfortable. I enjoyed chatting with her over the years. She is sweet and personable. I also really enjoy the atmosphere at the salon. The lighting and aromatherapy is relaxing and the front desk staff was always kind to me. I enjoy the little rituals Avant has as an Aveda salon, such as the scalp and hand massages. Jaleesa always offers these and always checked in about what I wanted done with my hair even though I was a regular client who doesnt stray too far from the usual most of the time. I have to move out of state for work, and I am extremely sad to leave behind Jaleesa and the salon. I definitely recommend Jaleesa and Avant especially for my curly girls! Book with Jaleesa if you want an absolutely amazing experience curlies :).

This location is a great physical space with lots of natural light to provide a relaxing experience for getting a hair cut. However, of the five times I have scheduled appointments here, they have called me within 24 hours of the appointment every single time and asked if I can move my appointment time up at their convenience which I feel is unprofessional. Also, three of these five appointments have resulted in day-of cancellations from the salon and I have had this happen to other friends as well. Very frustrating to not be able to count on appointments and I have given up on trying to schedule anything with them altogether.

Loved my experience with Jade! She cut my hair and was so pleasant and nice when I decided I wanted it to be a little shorter. It looks fabulous!

I waited far too long to get a new haircut after moving to the area. I chose Avant because I know they sell and use high quality and SAFE Aveda (and others) products. Ali did an amazing job with my tangled and outgrown hair and we had great conversation. I am returning for another cut with her today!

Taylor was an amazing stylist! She washed and cut my hair and was very friendly. She gave me tips and tricks and, while she was cutting it, explained to me what she was doing (Which is nice since I havent gotten a hair cut in a while). So, thank you Taylor!

Had an appointment scheduled far in advance and the day before I was told they could no longer do it at that time. I was traveling from a different town for wedding dress shopping and wanted to look my best before shopping. No accommodations were made and my appointment was canceled. Not professional and disappointing.

Came in to get a wax appointment for a wedding. When I walked in with my sisters the receptionist ( who said her name was Megan, not sure if she was telling me the truth.) looked us up and down like we were on the wrong side of town when I asked is she had any availability she gave me an abrupt no. I asked her is she had any availability today and she then told me her only opening was 4pm. I wasnt sure if we would be available, so I asked my sister if that would work. When I came back to the desk she was glaring at me. I said that we would take the appointment for the wax, she then asked me if I have ever been there before in an extremely condescending way, which is very unprofessional. I told her that I was only in town for a few days. She then asked me for my address and I again told her that I was only in town for a few days for a wedding and I told her that I would give her that address. She smirked at me and said no in a very haughty manner. At that point I was getting very upset, my sister asked if their salon did facials and she then proceeded to treat my sister like trash as well in responding to her question.I wanted to cancel the appointment at that second but I wasnt sure if I would be able to get another reservation before Sunday. I found a different salon and cancelled the reservation right away when I told Megan why I was cancelling because of her rudeness she ignored what I had to say and didnt apologize. I have never been treated so badly by a perfect stranger, would never recommend this place unless you want to be treated like trash.

I have always gotten my hair done through Aveda salons, of which I have been going to in Minneapolis for almost 8 years. If I did not like something about a cut or color they were always willing to touch anything up in anyway possible-without an extra charge.However, I was thoroughly disappointed with this Aveda salon. When I first went in I knew what I wanted, through several pictures, and showed my stylist. I was told that a balayage style would be the best, and I agreed because I have had balayages before. Then she told me, after she made the color, that it was going to be “a little more” than the $75 I was told for a partial foil. I asked how much and she told me it would be $106, due to being a speciality color. I told her that was too much for me, but if I could just have some dark and light pieces added into my hair (in a fluid way) that I would be fine with that. Well, then she came back and said “she would drop the price for me” and we could still do balayage. So I thought, oh that’s nice let’s do that. When my hair was all finished I knew it was not what I was expecting, only seeing light/orangey pieces, but I thought maybe I would just go home and see if I liked it better. After looking at it for a while, I knew I wasn’t happy with the color I received for $175. In my mind, if I pay this price I should get what I am happy with.So when I called back to just hopefully get a touch up, the lady told me I could get in today. However, then I reciesved a call from I think a manager who told me that “I was told what my color would be”. When in fact, the picture I went in with and what my hair looked like after was NOT what the color should’ve been. After, basically telling me that although I was not happy with my hair I would still have to pay and additional $75 on top of the already $175, I decided to cancel my entire appointment. AGAIN, I have always had good experiences with Aveda but THIS was terrible. Poor customer service to say the least, and felt like they tried to con me to paying more during the hair appt. Will never go or recommend any of my friends here again!

Giving three stars because the place is lovely and the staff is so sweet, but the product I got is NOT worth the $178 I paid. I requested ombre hair, and the front looks like how I wanted, but the back is the same as the base color, now that Ive taken a look at it a bit more. The stylist I got also cut my hair AFTER the dye process, I had a lot of hair so it made it way longer, plus I feel like cutting before would have been better since its ombre. Maybe will give them a try again, requesting a different stylist. And see how things go. But Ive gotten better deals back in California 20$ for a perfect cut and $80 for correct color. Sorry, but this place is too much money and no quality(at least my product) to back it up.

This was my first visit to Avant and I was VERY impressed!! Anika was awesome and I love the style she helped me pick!! I am going there next Friday to do blue highlights, something Ive never done before, and I am very excited!! I have wondered, since yesterday, why I never went to Avant before. All of my future appointments will be with Anika and Avant, for sure!!

I got my hair done here a while ago, but I never wrote a review about how terrible my experience was. I went in for a cut and to add highlights/lowlights and left with the worst hair I’ve ever gotten done (and am still paying for). I had been growing my hair out naturally for about 5 months and had approximately 5 or 6 inches of my natural light brown/dirty blonde hair color grown out that was completely untreated. I was told that my hair color was too dark to be lightened and that I’d have to dye my head one color and just stay dark, which was far from the case when I had my hair done at another salon 5 months prior (which had no problem putting blonde highlights in my dark and treated hair). I left with a cut and chunks of unblended orange/coppery blonde mixed with black in my natural regrowth and in the previously treated hair. After complaining, I was given the opportunity to have another stylist fix my hair- who then just bleached my entire head orange and did so much damage that my hair started to completely break off in some sections and is still partly damaged. As a customer who is paying roughly $200, I expect to be getting what I’m paying for. Thankfully another salon in town was able to fix my hair color after they ruined it and it was exactly what I wanted in the first place. So safe to say I wouldn’t recommend this place to anyone ever, I’m not sure I’ve heard one good thing about this place in my 3 years of living here. Sorry excuse for a salon.

The staff offers great personal service. I had a walk in appointment. They washed my hair before and after the haircut, I was impressed. Decore was very nice inside. I will be back.

Came in for a spa day when I was in town last Friday before the Rick Springfield show at the Alerus Center. Body polish, massage, facial and makeup application. I left looking and feeling great! I would most definitely recommend Avant Gateway location!

Worst experience of my life. I asked for blonde hair and left ORANGE hair. my hair stylist stated that it was because of the harsh light in the salon. After calling to complain they refuse to contact me. Will never recommend to anyone.

I did not like the way I was treated. I had called and scheduled an appointment and I drove all the way from Mayville for it. Once there they told me they couldnt fit me in. They had my number but never called to tell me about this conflict. I did not like how 12th they treated me.
