Freaking huge place but cool bar. Only complaint I had was that we had a room on the first floor for a wedding party and just with talking alone got to a whopping sustained 99db. Room needs some sound deadening on the ceilings or something lol. Basement was my favorite spot… college basement bar vibe, games, chill atmosphere and reasonably priced drinks.
Came here on Sunday during Artprize. It is indeed a big old building, its huge inside! I think its really cool that this place is basically three stories of bars, but not trashy-looking ones either. And it was neat to see the art on display, my favorite was the 3-D illusion one and also the painting of the statue in Daniels prophecy.
Beer was delicious. Had the hopsun and st. John. My husband and I arent ipa ppl but it was a great recommendation by Abby. Abby was our server upstairs and answered all our questions. She was so attentive, friendly and knowledgeable. We didnt have food. Kid friendly. Fun atmosphere. Has wheelchair/stroller accessibility.
We are so happy that the BOB is back open. We were heading to see a show upstairs at Dr. Grins. When going online, to Open Table , it looked as though every table was booked at the two restaurants that are serving right now. However, upon getting a hold of somebody at the service desk, I was told that the Open Table app does not apply. The downside is I think a lot of people arent utilizing the fabulous restaurants that are back open to eat there because they assume that all the tables are booked. Lucky for us, we called ahead and discovered this wasnt true. I highly suggest that this is updated in their system , as to not lose future customers. We miss the hay days of the Bob when it was packed with all ages and served magnificent food and was hopping on every floor. It was our go-to when we had people visiting from out of town. There was something there for everybody. We ended up having a terrific meal at Bobs Brewery. Our appetizer was cheese roulette, the secret being two or three jalapeno cheese stuffed bites! These were fried to perfection. They did not disappoint. We also asked for the barbecued mac and cheese which we had served deconstructed. The noodles were cooked perfect and the meat was so tender. The barbecue sauce was amazing and we probably should have had it served the way they normally do.Wed like to say thank you to our bartender,Rip!He seems to have been a stable in the building off and on throughout the years. We reminisced about the different food and restaurants that have been there, and he is crossing his fingers along with us, to see the BOB come back to its previous glory.
Spent a decent amount of time attending the bob on the weekends. The guys at the door are prompt. Bartenders are attentive as can be. For how busy they are, impressive turnaround time. If you make your way up to Eve, John and Curtis are always there to greet with a smile and make you feel welcome to be there, while providing a safe and friendly environment for all. The bartenders are extremely busy, but when they make it to you they make the drink fast.
Jayme and Aleena are awesome bartenders! Super attentive and genuinely good people. (Both deserve a raise if you ask us!) Food here was so awesome and all of the beers are incredible. Keep it up!
I love this place! Live bands! Different bars for different people! Women typically dont have a cover charge. Its very hard to get a drink at the Eve but I drink downstairs because its pointless to bring your drink on the dance floor. The bathroom is usually clean. The bartenders are nice but direct because its busy. I love the diversity this place brings. Ive never had the food. But the wine is great!
Going to retract my first statement, they kicked us out before giving us the whole correct story. But the situation was handled poorly. Then the door guy wanted to cause an argument between my friend group on why we were being kicked out. Untill the manager where his suit had to come and apologize for being right and wrong on what was going on. All and all weird ibis if you’re not a regular or a 21 year old there to look pretty for the staff to look at.
On a Saturday night, we waited downstairs in the brewery for about an hour before our table for 4 at The Smoke House was ready. The BBQ was not what Im used to down South. The brisket was badly fatty and overcooked, although very tasty. The chicken was dry and the skin was so crispy I think it was deep-fried. The pulled pork was really tasty and the best meat on the Sampler Platter. The 4 sauces were a huge disappointment. The grilled bread was super-thick, well grilled, and double thick - possibly the best part of my dinner!!The steakhouse and American burger/pizza place might be better, and the live entertainment was just warning up when we left - but I really dont think Id return it I was given the choice.
As a local in downtown Grand Rapids, I like to think I know the nightlife. I can honestly say that Eli, Jake, and KJ are the friendliest bouncers in the city. Efficient and thorough. With a staff like this… I will gladly make The B.O.B my bar of choice.
I had a great experience with Aaron S and Michael S working the beer garden door a few weeks ago. They were so friendly and nice about their security measures.
Great spot with multiple bars! Many activities with good vibes. Friendly staff. The wait for a drink can be a little much, but the atmosphere is still worth it.
The bouncers Jake, KJ and Eli were quite professional with how they handled my friend group and the crowd that was waiting in line. Their warm hospitality made us feel welcome, safe and it started the night off well!
Came saturday morning for the st paddys specials, wonderful staff were all so sweet and accommodating!! shout out to server tyler and the lovely manager lady who was working here. the food was incredible and the building itself is such a vibe to be in. 10/10 reccomend for kind staff and great food!! the morning bouncers were a vibe as well and ill def be back for the great atmosphere from entrance to leave :))
Highly recommend checking this place out. Has a great variety of bars inside that serve all age groups. Did not have any food but from the looks of the place the food would most likely be top notch. The patio is a great place to hangout on a cooler day and the bar in the basement area has corn hole and looked like possibly beer pong.
This was only my second time coming to the Bob and all the bartenders, bouncers, and security were very nice! Especially Aaron he was very kind and helpful!
My daughters, a friend and I had a wonderful night out for dinner. Enjoyed dressing up and going out for a few hours. Staff was friendly, plenty of options for food and different spots to go in the building. Only downside was the womens bathroom on the 2nd floor was freezing!!! Everyone commented in as other ladies were going in and out.
I was at BOB this weekend and me and my wife were having a great time. Until we decided to go use the restroom and while we were walking there, this lady named Brea comes up and asked my wife to stand on one leg out of no where and suddenly asked us to leave. She seemed new cause I have never seen her. I understand your are trying to make a name for yourself at the organization but that doesn’t mean you should be disrespectful to your regular guests for NO REASON. We didn’t bother anyone we didn’t cause any chaos. We may have had a few drinks but does anyone come to Bob to meditate and do Yoga? All of the bouncers surrounded us like we were criminals, now I respect the teamwork and they trusting her judgement but at the same time, who is really validating these decisions? I paid $46 to get into eve and now my hard earned money is wasted just because this lady thought, ohh let me just be the boss. They provided us NO EXPLANATION!!! I escalated this to Samuel couple of times and he seemed to be cursing me behind everybody standing there. You should really treat your guests better who aren’t some teenage hooligans trying make a scene. We come from a very respectful culture and just wanted to have a good time. I really hope these team leads you appoint get some training or atleast have some sort of understanding of inappropriate behavior. I really liked to hangout at the BOB but I am not so sure anymore because the way your security team treated us, I honestly feel threatened that these so called bouncers who act like Mafia’s may pin me down cause I accidentally dropped a glass of water in the future. They need better training. I hope this gets to someone higher up so they really do something about it cause it is becoming a problem.P.s: Also tell Samuel that he doesn’t own the place, he is an employee who gets paid on our dime so at the least, be respectful and considerate.
Every time I see Tyler he always has a smile on his face and greets everyone, he always says what’s up and has a little small talk with me at the entrance. He’s a great bouncer and always starts my night at The Bob on a good note.
I got the all you can eat pizza lunch buffet. What a deal. It was totally worth it. The pizza was delicious, the breadsticks were amazing, and they had more options then I could have ever wanted. I cant say enough about how awesome this place was for lunch. You should go here just for the pizza buffet.
We went to Dr Grins and then stayed to see our favorite band, Pleasure Towne. We are very disappointed in the over priced water downed drinks. I had 4 drinks and didnt taste or feel like anything other than juice. If we go back, we will not be buying alcohol!
Brea was amazing she helped me find my phone, and was so patient. Her hospitality was over the top! Will be back again
We typically try to eat BBQ when traveling. The side of Mac n cheese was delicious, as well as the drinks. We ordered the platter and it was supposed to feed 2. Thankfully we ordered a side of burnt ends but as you see a lot of them were all fat. The brisket needed more seasoning and the corn bread needed to be cooked a little longer. Shocked that there was no southern style desserts for a BBQ restaurant. We will not be returning!
The Bob is an amazing place to go after an event or on a weekend Tyler G is a bouncer and he makes the place feel safe while you are having a good time!
A classic example of a smelly bar with pompous management, that tries too hard to be what its not.I went here for my friends 25th birthday. Was denied access because they insisted I was wearing sweatpants(I was not - they were fitted black track pants). Not my typical choice of fashion but I didnt have time to change after work and figured I still looked nice. Not that it matters, but they were probably more expensive than 90% of the pants in there anyway lol.I was an hour away from home with no car. This little detail could have completely ruined my night as well as my friends birthday. I dont take many days off and he was very excited that I came out. I tried to explain my situation but received no mercy.I took the cold walk of shame back to my friends truck where I thankfully found some spare pants. The lead bouncer comped my cover and allowed me to skip the line. Nice gesture, but the other two guys still gave me a hard time for no reason. Im not from here. How am I supposed to know you have a silly dress code? This place is undeserving of such a trivial rule. From the looks of it, you should be able to go here wearing a banana costume. Once inside, I saw others that did not comply with the dress code. Not sure why I was singled out. Never in my life have I seen a place that has beer pong in the basement have a strict dress code. Not to mention, the basement bar SMELLED so bad that everyone had to evacuate!😂Had a lot more fun last year, they at least had a good DJ then.Note to the owner: Regardless, most people arent going to wear sweatpants when they go out. Theres no need to enforce a dress code. Maybe you had a problem with that in the past because thats the vibe The B.O.B. puts out.
*Don’t bother showing up at noon Saturday*Had some time to kill in town before another event. Thought we’d have a couple beers and play some shuffleboard. Found parking. Came at noon. Got some money from the ATM to play some games. Employees just kind of hanging out. Chairs up on all the tables. Guy went down and closed off the games/shuffleboard area. Waited 10 or 15 minutes, didn’t seem like anything was changing so we left.
Awesome smoked meats! Definitely worth a visit. Not sure what’s up with the poor reviews. This place has had a bit of an identity crisis over the years, but it’s finally found itself. The chicken thighs are super juicy and the spoon cornbread is my new obsession. Pair it with a beer that’s brewed in-house, and you’ve got the perfect meal. So delish!
Jake, Joey, and Eli are three of the most hospitable and respect people you will ever meet. They are so professional and are always on top of their game! 10/10
Great food, service and happy hour prices on tasty beer! 4-7 Thursdays you get beer for $2/pint otherwise they’re $5-$6 a pint. I love the Bob; just wish they open a couple of other nights besides Thurs-Saturday.
Great spot! 3 floors all different vibes. Eli who works there was very kind and always helpful - great dude!
Tyler G (MY GUY), Joey, Elijah & Myles. What an incredible group of men. Went above and beyond for us. Appreciate you all so much!!! People like yall make The Bob what it is 🫶
We received the best club service Ive had in a long time. Kendahls service was quick attentive and personal. Definitely the best server Ive had in ages. 10/10 recommend coming to the Bob. Immaculate service and great vibes.
Waited 1 hour and 10 minutes to get inside. Can go through front or back door - both have lines to wait in. Once I got up to the door, was told I needed a smaller bag. Didnt realize there was bag size regulations. You will be scanned and bags will be searched. Multiple floors of drinking and dancing. Still definitely packed person to person regardless of how big it is. Very good drinks. Didnt try the food. Staff were nice and helpful. They closed around 1:30am....on a Saturday night. Kind of an overrated place, but still fun. Just come early enough so youre inside longer than the wait line.
Here is the deal. I would have given more stars but they have chosen to no longer take legal us tender as payment. If the us legal currency is not good enough for this establishment then they do not deserve my business. Sorry I usually dont review and put in my personal beliefs but not taking legal tender for the country you are doing business in is just wrong!
KJ, Josh, Jake, and Eli were super hospitable, understanding, and professional. Great bar/club 10/10 appreciate everything you guys do.
A large BBQ spot with a pretty big draft beer selection, including many local brews. The food, or at least what I had, was so-so. The brisket was very dry. It’s a good thing they had 6 kinds of BBQ sauce or it would’ve been very difficult to eat. The Mac and cheese was soupy and goopy.Service was friendly, but it was a slow night and it felt like they were distracted. Not horrible, but I don’t think I’ll return.
We had an amazing experience thanks to cowboy Eli, Tyler, and Grace! 10/10 love it here!
The security guy Tyler G. was nice and got us in quickly and he made conversation with me and my friend while he scanned our ids and was very friendly will definitely go there again
Cayvon is excellent, he was a bouncer for two events and he was professional and handled every issue with a calm demeanor.
These guys are the worst.. they suck… I tried to get in and they wouldn’t let me in on the day of my cousins wedding.. there beer is trash and then costumer service is awful… I hate this place nobody should go I hate this place they suck
The B.O.B. has several options for food, drinks, and entertainment. It has become a Grand Rapids place to go for entertainment. There is a lot of parking options in the area, but expect to pay for it most of the time. There is an indoor entrance for 20 Monroe Live as well. So you don’t have to stand out in the cold.
Their beer is not very good at all. Close at 1 but stop serving at like 12:10? Lines are always WAY too long, bars extremely slow due to being extremely understaffed. Cool place to go once but, lots of improvements could be so easily made
Jake, Eli, and KJ were all amazing! Very friendly and got people through the line as quick as they could.
Update: January 2022. Sorry to hear it closed.Update July 2022: I heard it might be re-opening. Hope its true._______________________________________________________________________We went there during Art Prize 2021 and it was filled with goodies everywhere on all the floors. I had never been in the basement level. Kinda dark and basement-like and the bathroom wood door had a piece of wood that was raised up and it snagged my sweater but Im not complaining. It felt like an adventure just being in this old building. We grabbed a beer at the big oval bar on the main level and had them put a walkabout sticker on it and off we went. I approve of this place.
The Bob is always a great time! Awesome atmosphere and caring staff. We loved the Halloween party and everything it had to offer from live music, dancing, and good drinks! Definitely will be going again next year:)
Disappointing Halloween Party ExperienceI recently attended a Halloween party and unfortunately, it didnt live up to my expectations. The first issue I encountered was the long line to get in. It seemed that they only had one person checking IDs, causing a significant delay in the entry process. This lack of efficiency was quite frustrating.Once inside, I noticed that there were multiple levels with different DJs playing. While this may sound exciting, it actually felt disjointed and chaotic. The music clashed, and it was challenging to find a consistent atmosphere throughout the venue. It would have been better if there was a clear theme or flow to the music selection. One of the main attractions of the party was the Halloween contest, but unfortunately, it fell flat. The contest lacked creativity and excitement, leaving attendees feeling underwhelmed. It would have been great to see more effort put into organizing a captivating and engaging competition.Another issue I encountered was the lack of visible staff. It seemed as though there was a lack of organization and supervision. This absence of staff made it difficult to address any concerns or seek assistance when needed, leaving attendees feeling unsupported. The pricing for the event was also a letdown. Considering the overall experience, the ticket price felt unreasonably high. Its disheartening to pay a premium for an event that didnt deliver on its promises.Lastly, the venue itself was not up to par. It lacked the necessary ambiance and atmosphere to create an immersive Halloween experience. This aspect greatly impacted the overall enjoyment of the party.Based on my experience, I would not recommend attending this Halloween party. The long lines, lackluster contest, absent staff, and overpriced tickets took away from what should have been a memorable event. I believe there are better options available for Halloween parties in the area, and I will be exploring those options in the future.
My fav bouncer Curtis Bart kills it at his job and always makes sure my girlfriends and I feel safe!
Went this past Saturday and one of the security guards unbuttoned my front chest pockets of my jacket and reached his hand in both of them as part of their ‘search’ before entering. He laughed as I was visibly shocked that he did this. It was so uncomfortable and bizarre.
Aaron s and magic mike are the best! they deserve 5 star ratings all the time
CJ is real one. He was super helpful on steps, going up to the eve and he makes bomb food
We were seated quickly when we arrived around 7pm on a Saturday night. Waitress introduced herself within minutes and took our drink orders and delivered shortly thereafter. Our appetizers (corn bread and deviled egg) were both amazing. We had ordered 2 of the samples and a 1/2 pound of brisket for dinner. All the food was great and plenty for the 4 of us. The quickly fixed an issue on one of the samplers (burnt ends vs brisket). This was our first visit and will definitely be returning!
KJ and Tyler are very good bouncers and always make me feel welcomed and safe👍👍👍
They like to swipe cards here when you have a tab open. Our group left without closing our tab. Upon trying to reenter to pay it (once remembering it was open shortly after we left) they only allowed the cardholder to go upstairs but then refused to let her close her tab due to counts. About 20 minutes after leaving the second time the cardholders card was wiped clean of everything she had transfered to her checking account. We had 6 dirty Shirleys between 2 people. And 2 cover charges. Where does that add up to $185????
Love going to the Bob! The group of bouncers; Miles, Tyler, and Eli were also so friendly :)
GG is an awesome server! She gave great food suggestions. The pizza, chicken sandwich, and sub were so tasty. We really liked the dip and chips. The fries were so good.
What a shocking experience. A woman who has a bag is not an issue, but the “size” policy matters when a male walks though. My friends had similar sized bags but head security gets called over to end up denying my entrance. Instead of making the moment right, after already having my bag rummaged through and approved many times, I had to leave my group. I wish this bar was more welcoming and as inclusive as it used to be - I will not be returning. Also - pipes leaking on your head in the men’s bathroom (2nd floor).
We had drinks before Dr Grins - which was awesome! Rob Little was hilarious!Afterward we had drinks and hors devours and our waitress was very sweet and personable
Lots of dining options, many restaurants, bars and a comedy club (Dr. Grins). You can get anything from a burger to pizza to fish and steak... From casual to fine dining. The Bob Brewery offers many of their own local brews. Fun place for groups, couples or even alone. Staff is helpful and friendly. If you are an out of towner, dont miss all that the BOB (Big Old Building) has to offer.
Great happy hour specials. You cant go wrong with the fritters or burgers. update 11.4.21 prolly best bartenders around edit 5.3.23 only place around playing house edm and such thanks for not playing pop songs that you hear at any small town pub..update 6.14.24 craft beer choices are getting rough. Maybe have a good beer selection downstairs John???? Capable of such good beeer
Had to order at Host stand before being seated. Not very busy, wasn’t sure if that was a good sign or not.Had to go to a separate bar for drinks (water)Spinach artichoke dip didnt have taste, pita chips were good.Pizza was better but small for $15Experienced some harassment from teens on a field trip during art prize.(Sign said we couldnt open the shutters)
This was my first visit to the BOB prior to a concert at the Van Andel. I found it very confusing, it was extremely crowded, all of the tables were by reservation, however, we were able to sit at the bar and order dinner. The food was good and the bartender, Sydney, was very sweet.
Easily the best spot to grab a drink at The Bob.Ive yet to try the food. Once I do, Ill drop another review.Bartenders are very good, especially the veteran RIP. Highly recommend the bar seating.
KJ - thank you for your help it was my first time at the bob in Grand Rapids and he was more than helpful in understanding the area!
I gotta admit the service was amazing “bar tenders “ the security kicked me out for excessive drinking regardless what the servers gave me! They would not give me my purse or any of my belongings at the bar the security said they had video of me excessive drinking when I don’t even drink so I find that really hard to believe they would not let me back in the bar to the comedy show where I knew the performers so I had to wait for my passport outside the comedy club. It was so embarrassing the worker was such a jerk I hope this is a issue that gets resolved so y’all shouldn’t be denying to serving women and leaving them alone.Outside the bar seemed really irresponsible.
Worst place ever as turist they didnt let me in with my international license idOr they just racist
The bouncers were so great! Micheal, Aaron and kazon were so helpful!
Aaron S and Magic Mike were INCREDIBLE! Have NEVER had better service ;)
Tyler is very Professional with he’s job. He takes he’s job very seriously but at the same time he has fun with it!
Aaron and Tred were awesome!! Their hospitality was top notch
Aaron s and magic Mike are the best ppl ever, they are kingsss!!!
Had a great experience at the Bob! GG was an amazing waitress! She was incredibly accommodating and made sure that our table had everything that we needed!
Had the worst experience at The BOB this past Friday. First of all its card only, no cash for front door, coat check, or your actual bill. Get there none of the front door guys knew anything, charge us, and then look at me crazy when I dont tip them on my card.Get to coat check. They have TWO in the building for the 17ish bars and restaurants they have there, they are both full by 10pm, okayyyyyy. Go to Eve. Elevator is broken 4 flights of stairs, okay guess Im really exercising tonight 😒. Eve is packed, cool. Bartender got my friends drink wrong cant really blame her friend ordered her drink weird. Bartender becomes impatient. I ask for a Mich Ultra. Only have Budweiser and Miller light for beers. Seems weird but alright. Ask for a screw driver gives me Titos when I said well. Granted Titos could be their well. Idk. It comes out to $26 for a shot of tequila and red bull (my friends drink) and a Titos and OJ. I tip $7. Pay and take a sip of my drink and the OJ tastes fuzzy. Try to get her attention to let her know and just see if I can get a Miller light instead. Not what I drink but eh maybe a beer is better than fuzzy OJ. Cant get her attention at all just ignores me. I tell security to let her know. They may have? 🤷🏽♀️ My friends and I left after that. Maybe spent all of 20 mins there and 15 of them were upsetting. Which really sucks cause Ive been going to The Bob since I was 17. I got my senior pictures taken in Eve. Sad to see it go down. 🥺
Great atmosphere for pre-concert meet up with friends!
I havent had anything short of a great time at the BOB since I moved here. Rip is a riot! And Tatum, Morgan, and so many great servers have been awesome. The food and drinks never disappoint. ✌️🤜👊🤛❤️
Scooby and shaggy are very hospitable and welcoming bouncers! Highly recommended
Waiting in line for the Bob after buying tickets for an event held here. We have been in line for over an hour and doors opened an hour and a half ago. According to friends inside there is no one in there and the line is still wrapped around the block. They also have someone cracking a whip as some sort of “entertainment” to distract people from their terrible management. Do NOT recommend especially on Halloween
This is my second night on their first weekend reopening and I must say it is a fun place to come with your friends. That is if you manage to get in within a reasonable time. You either get here early or you’re waiting out side for about an hour. Other than that I love the cashless bars. The drinks are good and the atmosphere is fun!
Bar tenders upcharge on drinks to include their tip, youll never be charged the same price for the same drink from a different tender, I’ve personally had a friend refused service because a bartender knew her boyfriend and didnt like him then she had another bartender charge her $36 for two very basic drinks. Atmosphere is very underwhelming and aggravating, The eve “nightclub” is the only place with decent music but the kids up there are messy, spilling drinks on everyone near them (not referring to age just the crowd they’ve accumulated). Just overall taking a nosedive compared to 5 months ago. Very many things wrong with this place. If you want to go somewhere with decent people and good music just go to holiday bar. Its small but 100x more enjoyable and draws a good fun crowd that can handle their drinks and bartenders that serve appropriately. Also there were 13 year olds, not an exaggeration, living it up at the bar passed 10pm. This part is for timothy, Im not a bartender at another bar trying to slander you, Im just a long time patron whos making observations on what the bobs turned into. I want to clarify that I used to LOVE the bob, id spend every friday and saturday every single week without issues like this. Bar tenders have always been weird about changing prices but that was worth it because it was so fun.
Ty lah and scooby are the best, great service and super nice. Hospitality 10/10
The crew is amazing!!! Justine who works the elevator is a G!!! She consistently has good energy; I don’t know if it’s her vibrant hair or her smile but she definitely knows how to make you feel welcomed. Also one of the managers, Shelby, is GOATED, no matter rain or shine she always has a smile on her face; which makes her super pursuable, while taking care of business like a boss.
Tyler G was the best part of my experience there! He made my night!
Paid $50 per person in advance for event tickets only to wait in line for over an hour so they could let people in who bought tickets at the door. Party was fun but they need help with event management.
Bob looks so much different then prior to Covid. All 2 floors are mostly bars. I liked the addition of ping pong tables, outdoor patio. Crowded with 20 something kids. Seems like HOME is where the older crowd (not too many) was at on Saturday night.
WARNING: The Bob no longer allows sweatpants!!! Me and my friends have worn sweatpants to the Bob multiple times but they are apparently cracking down on it now. A couple of us got inside and it was a ghost town on a Friday night. Maybe they should allow sweatpants so they don’t have to close again.
Great beer, service and food. Always great to see Dave and other bartenders at the Bob. Why they serve beer in plastic cups I have no idea. Plus the price of beer went up 20% from before they reopened. Best reason to go there is it’s directly across from VanAndel that charges astronomic prices for food and beer!?
Bought tickets for the Halloween party and it took 2+ hours just to get in. There was only 1 person checking people in. I wish I could give them zero stars for how unorganized they were. Ruined Halloween night. I’m so upset I spent my time and money on the bob.
The moment we walked in a waitress scolded us. My group was unsure how to use the beer wall and instead of pointing us in the right direction a waitress told us we were breaking it and would be kicked out. Not sure if she was having a bad day, but help would’ve been appreciated instead of threatening us
We love going downtown GR. We also love going to The Bob! And its always a special treat having Travis Klinge serving up his amazing cocktails!
They door man was rude wouldnt suggest going there. Discimiatory acts.
Please add fried pickles to your appitizer menus at your restaurants. Please also play more house hip hop and r and b at the Eve and less industrial rave music there. Similar playlists your dj has on the third floor. Besides that we had a great time and the staff was very friendly and professional!
Sydney was fun and took great care of us. Thanks for the recommendations and pointing us in the right food direction. The Jenga nachos are fantastic and can feed a crowd. The fries are like a cross between a steak fry and curly fry. So good. Pulled pork sandwiches are freaking crazy good and a large portion. Same with the brisket philly cheese steak!!!! The only reason for the 4 stars was the hostess gave us a hard time when we wanted to sit at a table instead of a booth. She was very rude right from the beginning. Everything else was fantastic. Definitely worth a visit!! Enjoy
Annual weekend trip to Grand Rapids and went to the B.O.B. for craft beers and dinner. Ordered the brisket mac & cheese - TERRIBLE. No cheese, just plain noodles and fatty meat. WAY OVER PRICED. Craft beer was good, but dont waste your money on the food. - much better places to eat at downtown! And heads up - the waitress automatically hands you your bill with a 25% gratuity
Tyler G at the door was the best way to start the night! What a guy!
Jayme and Dave and legendary. Awesome service. Thanks for the laughs. Management hired 2 awesome humans.
A great place to hang out with friends and family for dinner and drinks or to go before a show at 20 Monroe Live as they have an entrance to the venue on the third floor of the Bob. I would have given a 5 star however, the Bob only has one wheelchair entrance which is on the opposite side of the building from the parking structure.
Best place in town. Such a versatile venue with four floors. A must go if you are in Grand RapidsThe staff is incredibly friendly and professional. It is always a good time at the BOB
The B.O.B. has always taken care of us. GM tonight (Alex?) was proactive to create a greate experience. Always great to work with and visit the B.O.B.
Great spot! Lots going on, easy to meet people, fun vibe. Security can be a little rude and the basement is a little gross but still 5 stars from me. Popular place, fun guaranteed
John & curtis the bouncers was super helpful with the questions I had!
Honestly has not been as good as usual, mainly due to the music. The DJ upstairs only plays EDM/house music rather than any recognizable songs, we always give it a try but usually end up leaving (college age girl)
Genevieve was an amazing server! She definitely made a positive impact on my dining experience.
Scooby and shaggy are the most hospitable amazing workers at the bob!
Go somewhere else. Small menu, downtown prices, nothing was a hit in our group of 10. Sandwiches all bread no meat, appetizers were all lackluster, microbrews were just ok. Service was good but it was pretty dead on a friday night and now its apparent why
This review is for Dr. Grin’s in the BOB, who didn’t notify me that there was a 20% gratuity automatically added. The server was very deceptive. I asked to see my bill prior to payment and the server hid the gratuity portion, and once I asked for a paper bill she did not come back on the floor to discuss the bill. I hope she enjoys the fat tip that she double dipped, it’ll never happen again!
Our waiter was pretty solid: friendly, attentive and (mostly) accurate. The food was also good, and felt just *barely* on the expensive side for what it was... which is to say Id gladly eat there again. The charcuterie board was not the one in the photos (it was much smaller), but it wasnt very expensive, and had a decent selection of meats and cheeses. I got the meat sampler and the beef portion was great. The pork was ok, and I would not order the chicken again... it just tasted not... fresh. The other appetizer we got (mushroom spread on toast) was excellent.
KJ, a security lad, is trying to teach people respect, how utterly rude and absurd, such a common cant find himself, And tge crew were at the door, people of no respect.
Very fun atmosphere, slightly overwhelming (in a good way) with the decor and sheer size of the place. Menu was very different and new, which matches their overall vibe. Waitress was extremely friendly and knowledgeable. The bar downstairs has incredible employees. The game room is also a great addition, and very fun for our large group that went. Food was very good. Pricey, but the environment makes it very worthwhile, it is a great place to dine in Grand Rapids.
Good, but unusual experience as I was there during artprize. I have no idea what its typical situation is.We visited, looked at exhibits, had a beer at the outdoor pavilion at just the right time when there was no line, then left. They were out of several beverages, and it was relatively early in the evening. The chalkboard sign did not reflect current options.Overall, the ambience was good, and Id go back, for sure.
We were there for a bachelorette party, we were sat right away but the waitress (CC) did not even come to take out drink orders for 43 minutes! We ended up ordering our dinner at the same time as our drinks. She was pretty rude and never even came back to check on us. When getting our checks she over charged every single one of us (we had a party of 8)I do appreciate the other two workers that brought our food out to us. Also, the manager Adam was quick and efficient at the end of the night to help us out. We were there for over 2 hours and literally only had one drink and our food.
I love the Bob once your inside, I really do. But I think they could really improve on how they let people in and their lines being so long. They have two doors. One should be for people with tickets and one should be for everyone else. You’ll only move 2 feet within one hour of being in line, get inside, and it’s not even half full.
It was very busy, but, we were seated quickly. Appetizer came very soon after ordering. Had several different items from the menu, burgers were great! Service was awesome, kept table cleared and drinks full. Party of eight and all were satisfied.
Really cool place, we got great food, drinks and service in the lower level, Bobs Brewery. We met a nice couple hanging out like us, waiting for The Who concert. After an awesome concert we headed back for drinks, but they were closing. I would definitely recommend this place. I just wish they would have stayed open on that concert night to hang out. There must have been 100+ people heading in after the concert that we saw and probably more. I would think on a concert night they might stay open longer, after a concert you are wide awake and want some drinks, especially since we were staying at the Marriott a few blocks over and didnt need to leave town. We loved it though! Well be hanging out there this fall when we come back for another concert!
Amazing restaurant with great food selections and very nice waiters and waitresses. They have a wide variety and selection of foods and drinks if you may be looking for something not found at other places. Very great place to eat at, I recommend eating there at least once.
First of all, the restaurant on the second floor was easily a 4 or 5 star in service and quality. The lower rating comes from the experience we had in the first restaurant we attempted to eat at. Three wait staff walked past our table and didnt acknowledge us at all. The place was not busy and others appeared to be having the same issue. After 10+ minutes we got up and headed up the stairs and had a great meal.
Travis was awesome! He was so much fun and made great drinks. Travis = 10/10!Woohoo!
My girlfriend and I ate at one of the restaurants on the first floor, food was great! They were able to seat us right away, which was great because we were catching a show across the street. However our sever was pretty bad. Walked by us a few times without taking our order or checking on us. Never even asked us how our food or drinks were.
I’ve been here a few times and every time is fantastic. The staff is great especially Trenton. St Patrick’s Day they handled the crowds like champs. I just wish all the floors were always open or at least their menu but I know if that happened it would be chaos. The BOB is where you go for a great time!
Shelby S. is the most amazing employee of any company I have ever met. She was exceptionally helpful and very personal! Give her a raise 🤗🤗
Visited during Art Prize, so it was a little busy. Servers were nice. Food decent. Ordered jumbo wings.... NOT jumbo at all. I did watch the Manger get her staff moving. Good job ladies.
I have been going ten years. The deals are awesome and so are the meals . I loved the burger I had today. It was a gourmet burger and enjoyable . Not a diner burger. The Scotch ale just took a long jump from a typical porter weight to a more open flavor that I consider impressive and drinkable. The beers here are great!
We unfortunately had a bad night here on 8/14/21. We were a large party of 11 so we understand things take time, but our waitress was nonexistent for much of our time there. I had water and when she did come to the table shed forget to bring me another, I finally went to the bar to get some. Our food took a very long time, missing meals and instead of checking on them, waitress said well I dont cook the food. Brought out food but no silverware so we sat and stared at our food until she remembered. Manager came to the table and said hed find the missing meals and they came right after. Food was OK but for the wait, experience and price, we wanted to leave. I had 1/4 pulled pork, good portion but half fat. Elote corn was good and a side of fries could serve 2. Wont eat here again, but B.O.B.s is a great fun place.
Travis was an amazing bartender! He made me the best drink i’ve ever had :)
Atmosphere is great especially during Art Prize. Food was not very good, nachos were sad and pizza flavor not good at all. The best thing that came out were the burgers, would recommend that. Overall good experience, but food quality could be improved significantly.
We love Aaron S and magic Mike!
Nope, not going back after the way myself and my guest were treated. As a interracial couple, there are looks and people say things. I will say when you see the friends of the manager being treated in a much better way, you do question things. Our waiter great 50% tip. Even with the manager willing allowing his friends to eat well ahead of us, I will not hold it against the rest of the staff. Given that the restaurant business is going through a slight slowdown. As a public business, treat everyone the same. Doing so will have more benefits in the end. You never know who may be walking into your establishment. Better treatment, better reviews, equals more business. Did I express my feelings during my time at the restaurant, nope, because its not always worth it.
The atmosphere was cool. The menu had a lot if great items on it. I had a pulled pork sandwich and my son had a brisket sandwich. They were both excellent. My only thought was that the bbq sauce provided all just tasted a lot like vinegar and ketchup. There were 5 or so to pick from but they all tasted the same. Otherwise we had great service!!
This place is AWESOME...4 floors of fun. The staff was extremely friendly, especially the bar staff. The drinks were cold and the food was good. This is absolutely a must see spot. You would be missing out of you didnt stop in. I highly recommend The B.O.B.
We had the best night out at the bob and our server travis klinge was extraordinary with the drinks and service!!
GG slayed. She was so personable and so kind. Great service and was so sweet, please give her a raise!
The beer is good, but the service is a little unattentive. We were one of the only tables, most people were at the bar, but we had to go up to order our second beers. Other than that, I love the atmosphere of the basement brewery section, and their beers are pretty good.I drank Robert the Barrel, and if you like big malty beers with barrel overtones, this beer is for you.
My gf and I went for the Haunted Harry Potter event his Halloween! Food and drinks were A M A Z I N G!!! 10/10 well be back!!!
Would be nice to know there is a 20% gratuity fee at the comedy club
For such a beautiful environment it’s sad the staff ruins it with attitude every single time. The door staff are neither nice nor inviting and it’s honestly more intrusive than TSA. Considering this business’s past they should just close it all together.
It was nice to check this place out, but I wont go back. The food LOOKS amazing, but it is very underwhelming. We ordered the brisket sliders and the fish and chips. Honesty, both dishes had the ability to be really delicious. The fish was not seasoned AT ALL - even some salt would have helped. The chips were not even fries, they were fingerling potatoes that were also underseasoned. The sliders had tasty elements - the bun and the cheese were good. The meat was probably good, but the majority of my meat was just fat. One of my sliders was ONLY a chunk of fat, no actual meat at all. Taking a full bite of that legitimately made me gag. Thankfully that was my last one, because I literally couldnt eat another bite after that. Disgusting. The service was.... okay. The beer was okay but they dont even have a draft list. Our server also couldnt tell me what was on draft, but wanted to help me pick by asking me what kind of beer do you like? instead. The atmosphere was casual and fun like a sports bar. There are tvs up around that bar.
We were super impressed from the initial phone call reservation to the end of dinner. We were a visiting soccer team from the Metro Detroit area and had called for a team dinner. They fully accommodated our group of 40+ with ease. Very impressed and would HIGHLY recommend to anyone visiting the area. Food was fantastic! And the building itself was amazing. Thanks and we will definitely be back!
Hot spot. We ate at Gillys. The microbrew was limited but tasty. The Mac and cheese with mushrooms and peas was good. The shrimp was a bit dry. Smoked meat plate was good although the chicken was a little dry and the brisket was really fatty. The security kicking us out 15 minutes before close was a bit annoying. Two visits from them 2 minutes apart. And the waiter/kitchen messed up our order. They did comp our beer flight because of it, so made an effort to make it right.
This place was incredibly fun, had great music, and delicious food. Other people there, as well as the staff, were all super chill.Got some pizza and it hit the spot. Tasted kinda like a higher quality version of MOD pizza.Easy view of the Van Andel to check on the lines for concerts (or other events). Having an entrance into 20 Monroe is another big plus.
Beautiful Big Old Building. The bathrooms have always been clean, the restaurants are always good as expected and its in the perfect location for shows. Some restaurants have good pricing, a very few are a bit higher priced due to the selections and products they offer. Check out the menus before sitting, they truly do have a variety of American dining.
Absolutely fabulous food. Had special Salmon Wellington. AMAZING!!! Our server was Alena and she was incredible. For our brownie goblet dessert, we asked for an extra scoop of ice cream for sharing with our group and she had the manager bring us the extra scoop with an extra brownie. Best service ever!!!
So disappointed in the new Gillys. My family used to love coming here for the great seafood and nice menu. What happened??Went there last night and its mostly a beer bar with a very limited menu. Pricey for what you get and not well organized. We ordered wine which was awful. It had gone bad and was fermented! They opened a new bottle for us and it was better. We ordered the Asian ginger wings which were very dry and had no hint of ginger at all? We ordered a dozen oysters at $2.50 each!!! Ouch. They were okay not bad but overpriced!!We also ordered the gumbo and brisket nachos. The nachos never came though. When we asked our server about them she said that the kitchen told her they had sent them out??The manager took them off of our bill which was nice. Appreciated that. When we did finally get them they were not good. Sparse amounts of cheese and I mean tiny amount of cheese. The brisket was dry and the ends of the chips were burnt I guess because they rushed them out to us.Our server was a total sweetheart and very apologetic. She was awesome!!However, I do not think we will be back. The menu selection and prices and quality of food is lacking. There are better restaurants downtown that are better and less expensive.
Very disappointed in the quality of service Ive received the past few times I went. I decided to wait until I was able to get a full experience before I gave a review. I really wanted to like this place and just couldnt. From the time I stepped into the buildings I felt like the staff was on edge. Weve never felt so unappreciated and under valued as women of color until tonight. Ladies and gentlemen, keep your money and find another establishment that values diversity. This place is terrible when it comes to diversity and inclusion.
Place was huge (four floors)! Made it there around 8pm? and thankfully no later as they had a cover when we were leaving. Piano bar was exciting and the food was solid. Had a Blondie?? Definitely not my favorite beer, but didnt hurt my perception of the place.
This is a really unique old building with really cool design on the inside. It has several different places inside to eat each with a different atmosphere. I ate at Gillys smokehouse and had an excellent burger. They have a variety of different BBQ sauces that are all really delicious. I would definitely recommend the B.O.B.
Great place for dinner! I LOVE the B.O.B! Ive never eaten at this establishment and decided to try Gillys. I highly recommend the Open Faced Brisket! Food was place and delivered to our table in less than 10 minutes which was pretty impressive since the place was packed. Definitely a great stop when you head to GR!
Several clubs in one place makes it convenient to go to and its in the center of Grand Rapids. H.O.M.E. has great cover bands like starfarm perform from time to time. The food choices are good and the staff is always friendly. The drinks are average. Always good for a night on the town if you want to dance but do not expect anything super special about it.
Rip started us off right at the bar and Drew took amazing care of us after. Food came out fast and was delicious! Had the hot pot, smoked meat sampler and garlic parmesan fries that were to die for. The meat was tender and staff was fun and friendly. Couldnt ask for more. It was a very enjoyable evening!
Loved it soooo much! We are from NC and had never been to a place this awesome!! The manager, Matt Meyers, was so courteous and made sure we were taken good care of. We watched him do the same for many others as well. They were very busy and everyone still had their stuff together! The food was great and if we lived there, it would be a regular spot for us, indeed!
My first time going to the b.o.b. we went as a group for my daughters birthday. We loved the comedians an had a great time. We took photos outside an someone photo bombed us. It was so funny when we seen the photo. Had the best time an we didnt have to spend alot of money. Great place
