This place is AMAZING!!!! The service is great. Our waitress was very helpful and friendly. The food was delicious. The mocktails I had were great too! The place is very big and baby friendly, if you have a stroller you can easily find a table to seat comfortably.Id definitely recommend this restaurant if you are in the area.
We arrived at the restaurant at 10:10 PM, well within the operating hours stated on their website, closing time says 11:00 PM. Despite this, we were denied a table, even though the restaurant was not busy, with plenty of available tables in sight. We were excited to dine here, but this experience left us feeling quite disappointed. If the kitchen or staff have restrictions on seating guests after a certain time, it should be clearly communicated on the website to avoid confusion. We expected better service.
Great place with a very nice view Waikiki main area. The drinks are great and the food was very good for what it is.Out of everything we ordered the TOP choice and clear winner was their empanadas (loved them) with the Carnitas plate in second place as it was also very good. Was not fan of their flan as i personally found it lacking in flavor. The service was good with decent service times for how full they were. Recommend if you are looking for a good place to start Friday night.
This outdoor rooftop bar blasts unbelievably loud music until 1:00am each Tuesday, Thursday, Friday & Saturday, waking up residents of nearby hotels. Music played at these levels should be in violation of Honolulus 10:00pm noise ordinance.I tried to reach someone on the phone to request that the music level be lowered but multiple attempts to reach them over multiple hours were unanswered. This restaurant violates the Hawaiian ethos of community, family and unity with nature. They are an embarrassing cancer and sore thumb sticking loudly outward on an otherwise quiet and beautiful downtown evening environment. So very embarrassed that this venue continues to behave this way, at this location 👎👎
Googled Mexican food and this popped up so decided to give it a try, my daughter and I both Loved it. We went right when it opened and we were the only ones there with no reservation so didnt get city view seats but still nice, figured city view seats were saved for reservations even though no one else was there and it was rainy. Chili Rellano was delicious, would of been nice to add a 2nd one option since it was so good we both wanted another. Churros were best I have ever had, Drinks, Shrimp Ceviche and Pineapple salsa were also excellent!!!!
Marina was super friendly and funny, her food recommendations were delicious, it was our first time visiting, each one of our Uber drivers highly recommended us to do so and they were right: Búho has great music, fabulous servers, a wide variety of drinks. Cocktails and deliciously prepared Mexican cuisine choices. Being on the of the building definitely gives it a unique vibe, ambiance was perfect for the occasion. Thank you for an amazing experience.
IMO the best Mexican Restaurant! The best Enchiladas I’ve had ever! Great margaritas too! Thank you Hazel for your amazing service! Much appreciated and hope to back here again soon on our next trip to Hawaii! Hope to see you soon!
This place is pretty decent. We tried the ceviche. Although it was fresh, it lacked flavor. It felt like no seasoning was present.Margaritas were good, especially if you like a spicy margarita. All of their tacos were good (shrimp, carne asada, fish). If you go on Tuesday they have deals on their tacos.Service was great, but we thought the food was decent.
Chinita made my time here a blast! She’s super cultured and introduced us to some amazing drinks tailored to our tastes. Shes hilarious and really easy to talk to. If you visit this place, definitely ask for her—youll have a great time!
Tuesday night is the best party night in Waikiki because of Buho. The line starts to get long around 10:30 p.m. I would recommend coming here before 10:30 p.m. Great music and a great crowd make Tuesday night special for Taco Tuesday. There is a great DJ playing Latin music, which is perfect for dancing. They also provide free water in a big orange water dispenser by the dance floor. Tuesday night at Buho is the absolute best. Ive met people here from Mexico (though, interestingly, they often claim to be from California—some kind of complex, I suppose), Costa Rica, Honduras, Nicaragua, Argentina, Colombia, and Peru. It feels like a mini Central and South American party in the middle of Waikiki, and I absolutely love it.
Sadly this will be the first time Im giving a bad review. Dont get me wrong, the service was spectacular Lets start with a $16 dollar point for a Casamigos Repasado. Imagine $32 for a soft double. Most bars are offering $8 to $12. Thats a lot. Ordered Shrimp tacos. Its hard to mess up shrimp. The meat was diced and over cooked. Worse the tortillas are not grilled, think microwave to be warm. Just mushy. I hoped for so much from a high end restaurant in Waikiki. They failed!
We came here for dinner, our server was Winter, she was friendly, knew the menu pretty well and took good care of us. So the service was goodHowever the food was mediocre, we ordered tacos and both vegetarian and fish tacos were just edible, and I would not come back here for the food for sure. The atmosphere in general is not so inviting for an upper class dinner, yet the prices are set for an upper class dinner. They need to lower the prices and increased the food quality.
Love coming here for food, one of the best in the area, but it makes it better that we had an amazing bartender and now look for her everytime we go, china is the sweetest! shes very attentive to detail and always making sure we are taken care of. I watch how she is able to multi task and make sure everyone is taken care of as well. Her drinks on top of everything taste amazing! Shes so fast at it too!Definitely recommend
Food was decent, price reflected the premium location (rooftop in Waikiki) no complaints there. Service was good as well. Where I do have an issue is that a soft double on a margarita is basically charged as a double drink without any additional mixer or actual size increase. Its ridiculous to be charging an extra $15-$17 for an extra shot of tequila regardless of where you are.
Great atmosphere, got ripped off a bit by the bar tender on margaritas during taco tuesday but no big deal. The food is good, but not spectacular, and as far as Mexican street food goes a little overpriced (but not as much as the drinks).Staff was friendly and polite, and despite our not having a reservation, they worked diligently to get us a table in a pretty fast fashion.
DO NOT GO HERE! Please read the actual reviews....not friends of employees faking it. This is a poor excuse for Mexican food. Generic and flavorless is actually a compliment to the extremely under cooked meat and the bug infested drinks. Seriously please cut open your meat first if you do go here, its not RARE its RAW! The staff was pushy too, but I understand that since the manager decided to have a staff meeting behind our seats. So I get that they are just trying to earn a living working for a control freak....who should spend more time on cleaning then dictating where employees should stand. Dont support this place. As a former bartender the drinks are also not made well at all. Youre better off grabbing white claws at the ABC store. Also management copy and pastes the sane thing to every bad review on here that should speak for itself that this is not a rare issue. Just please go some else. Management we can discuss my $140 refund asap. Thanks!
We ate dinner here last night (2 adults and 3 kids). Most places are completely booked but Buho leaves a bunch of seats for walk ins. They are currently seating at 50% for Covid so half the bar and seats are blocked off. They told us it would be 30-45 wait but we got text to be seated in about 15. We had chips and salsa, and various entrees / kids meals. The fish tacos were good. My wife’s salad was ok (generic she said) and the kids ate their meals. My son really enjoyed the fish and chips. The drinks were good - plenty of options for all types of tequila. Service was quick and responsive. I think our server was Ty. Would imagine in normal times the ‘outside / rooftop bar area is pretty hopping. They did have pretty good live music. 🤙🏼
Me and my girlfriend stopped by for a quick Latin dinner the other night, and I was blown away. The food and food atmosphere are great, but are only secondary to the experience our server Daniel gave us, I’d recommend this restaurant to anyone and everyone. His knowledge of the menu made our experience a breeze. Highly recommend their tacos. I hope you experience the level of service we did!
Don’t come here if you are craving for an authentic Mexican food. But you should try their salsa trio- awesome flavors!Let me share you my experience.I ordered their steak fajitas. First of all- it did not come with guacamole and sour cream. If you want sour cream- you can order it separate for a small price. It came with pico de gallo, spicy salsa, refried beans, burnt tortillas and steak on a hot plate that is flavorless. Don’t ask for salt- the bottles they come in expels granules of sodium 5 pcs at the speed of 20 shakes.I asked for a lot of melted cheese on my refried beans(am just weird like that). They served me beans that had 10 strands of cheese that was barely melted. When asked if I can get extra cheese from another server..he said “absolutely.” Our server brought the cheese that is not melted. When asked if that could be melted- the result… a torched cheese as seen on the picture(ramekin). It was torched. It made me think that they may not have a microwave???Also- who wants a burnt tortilla????Paid $70 for inedible food.Worst experience. We’ve been coming to Waikiki and this is the first time we’ve been deceived of what’s being advertised.4 thumbs downs. Somebody needs a quick trip to Mexico or a quick google on Mexican cuisine because it is hard to mess up fajitas. Find a taco truck- get your money’s worth. My apologies to the owner.
I had a shrimp quesadilla, it was very good. The waitress was in training, but knowledgable about the food and very welcoming. This is a rooftop restaurant, so not recommended on a bad or questionable weather day. They do not have a completely indoor area if it is due to rain. Overall experience was great.
Only on special occasions do i give 5 starts. The best food Ive reviewed so far. The beef brisket buho Bonito was fantastic and full of flavor, if I could change one thing about it not put as much rice but more things inside. The deep fried ice cream was new and good also. I will be returning and recommending to others good job to everyone. On another hand the regular drink price was 3$ which is way cheaper than most restaurants Ive ordered from. I also recommend the beef brisket n
Leaving 4 stars only because of a negative experience with the host last night. I’ll start by saying the food was great, the waitress Naomi was great, and the outdoor seating was great. We liked the menu options and our drinks were great also.We did not have a reservation because they’re booked out a bit. They reserve a lot of seats for walk-Ins and I suppose there are a lot of reservation cancellations. When we arrived, I asked the host if we could be seated outside. She replied no because they were reserved for reservations even though she seated a group of 3 without reservations ahead of outside. Plus more than half of the tables were empty. I asked if I could speak to the manager and then the host acquiesced and seated us outside. I wasn’t rude and I definitely never want to be a jerk to hard working people. A simple customer should be taken into consideration and not summarily dismissed.
The service was excellent, and our waiter was incredibly friendly. However, the food was quite dry and lacked flavor. We also experienced delays, with drinks and appetizers taking over 15 minutes to arrive. While the drinks were very strong, the overall wait time for everything was frustratingly long.
Absolutely loved this place. This place had dining option while all the places were not accepting any more reservations in Waikiki on Christmas Day. Very friendly staff and they had live music. We ordered Mexican street corn, corn dip and vegetarian chimichanga. All the prep was delicious and freshly prepared. It’s on the rooftop that makes this place even more interesting.
This rooftop bar was so great, my first time in Honolulu and this place was a 5 min walk from my hotel. I didn’t have high expectations but boy was I wrong, our bartender Chinita was great! Great conversation, great drinks and just a great time overall. Gave me other recommendations as well to do while on my stay, Forsure coming back to this place when I’m in town!
We went for Taco Tuesday, great atmosphere, great staff serving. For one stand serving tacos the line went quickly and the tacos were hot. Would love to go back for late nite
Some friends and I went for dinner and drinks. I got some fish tacos which were not half bad. Drinks were a bit in the pricy side compared to surrounding bars but they were good. The waiters that attended us were pleasant and attentive. On Saturday nights there is a DJ and they open up the dance floor for those who want to stay and dance. We were there in the spirit of having a little fun amongst friends. Unfortunately we had an unpleasant experience with a couple of the bartenders. We were in line patiently waiting to get drinks, we ordered the drinks, and as soon as we get the drinks the bartender very rudely tells us to get out of the way, and begins helping the people behind us without acknowledging that we asked for limes and salt. She completely ignored us.About 30 mins later when we come back for another drink, she won’t help us and even goes as far as telling her other coworkers not to serve us, because we had an issue with her earlier. There was absolutely no issue on our part. We were respectful and we were baffled why she would do this.I know people can have a bad day sometimes, but this was very unacceptable. We talked with the bar manager and explained the situation and upon hearing our side of the story and him checking the cameras, he had another bartender serve us. The bartenders who were being rude, were not very happy about this.Thisbe experience I had that night, makes me not want to return to this place.
Food was pretty good even though I dont particularly care for Mexican cuisine. The ambiance was lively and fresh, and the service was attentive yet not over-bearing. Overall I would come here again to try something more from their drink menu, but I wouldnt come here to get wasted. Its a nice social spot for pau hana, or perhaps even a good start to a fun night out.
We wanted to check out this spot because we read it was a roof top bar. We ordered 2 drinks and 2 appetizers (guacamole and chips, Mexican street corn). This place was okay overall, the view isn’t that great. Yes, they have a fire pit but overall an underwhelming experience for the price you are paying at this location.
Food was subpar. It wasn’t necessarily bad but wasn’t fantastic. I wouldn’t come back. Prices are absurd for American-Mexican food. Their homemade salsa trio isn’t salsa, it’s more of a hot sauce, and if you want pico de gallo it will cost you 3$ for around 2oz (we’re were shocked how small it was when delivered to the table.. picture attached). Service is slow however they are very nice and friendly. Early Night life isn’t much either (around 11pm)… if you want to eat food they will place you far away from the music and fun ambiance.Won’t be back due to the food and atmosphere but the server was very kind.Would recommend going to any other spot, even to McDonald’s (cheaper, and around the same amount of flavour)
We love the food !! We stopped by to celebrate our wedding anniversary at Buho -we got some amazing drinks recommended by Chinita, great service!! fells great to have a good connection when you go to a place to celebrate something special, Chinita was super cool and we also make some friends just by joking around and enjoying her drinks. Im definitely going back 🫶
Nice place to chill, enjoy fun music and good food. Great Margaritas. The poppers wrapped in prosciutto where good even with the blue cheese in there. Chips are solid and perfectly salted and salsa is nicely seasoned. Fish tacos were great as well as the brisket tacos. Outstanding service quick and cordial.
Came for Salsa night and figured wed do dinner since we were hungry. Drinks were pricey but expected at an establishment anywhere in the Waikiki area. The salsa band was amazing and we loved dancing and having a great time. The food however was to be desirable. The fish tacos were probably the worst Ive had in my life. An absolute embarrassment as far as portion (think half a chicken nugget size and overcooked to a crisp), presentation, and taste. Empenada was a 3.5 out of 5, and the quesadilla was about a 3. The chips and salsa were embarrassing for the price. A 2oz portion of salsa and about 15 or so chips. I would have thought they would included them for the price, but to pay $6 was crazy. Just include it for dinners or give a decent portion. Probably skipping the food next time but overall ok experience. Well come back for the salsa band and grab food beforehand.
Food took over 45 min to come out and they were the worst, most bland tacos I’ve ever had. Definitely not worth the price. The drinks were good and the service was OK, but I will not be returning.
Nice place, views of Waikiki including Pink Hotel. Food was a bit high but expected for this area. Service was ok, seemed to be rushing through meal, food was served fast. Drinks north of 15 dollars. Atmosphere is diverse in side, seating by fire area, bar, patio seating, and overlooking Kalakaua. No validation in garage, garage is hard to get to from restaurant, which is located on front of building. Directions on google were confusing, in garage you get in elevator it says on building maker on 5th floor, it s, but appears an exit for emergency or employee entrance, this should be updated in building. Exit building, go to street level, go up in different elevator. Had the chimicanga, fully loaded. Daughters birthday mentioned, no special treat offered or dessert, disappointment on that one.
Haven’t been here in about 2 years. Food is mediocre, atmosphere is nice but fans would be great. Server was not flexible. Not as good as I remember :(
I came here last minute and will be back at least one more time on this trip just to visit chinita!! We were only going to stay for one drink but ended up 5 deep just to keep the conversation going with chinita, tell her the type go drink you want and she’ll make you exactly what you’re wanting, 5 stars just for her!
This place is a whole vibe! I’m only giving it four stars because the taco kit doesn’t include cheese but four different types of lettuce toppings. They could substitute one of those for a little bit of cheese, and it would be perfect. The service was a little slow, but the outside environment makes up for it definitely come here for a nice date night in the heart of Waikiki.
Food was great, not particularly well priced but fine. Small portions.Margarita was absolute garbage, like, unforgivable. The margs were on special for $11, server asked if single or double, we chose double, and when we got the bill the doubles were $21 which is totally unreasonable. Also, our table was in a section that smelled like sewage the entire time. We asked to move and they said they were aware of the issue but didn’t move us.We had this place recommended by 2 separate servers at other places so we were totally shocked and disappointed.I want to mention our servers were lovely but we needed to have the pricing transparent and maybe having something compe’d for smelling sewage would have been a good move.
Buho is a great restaurant. My wife and I are both vegetarian, and Buho had some great options for us. The chips and salsa are worth the extra cost. I got the veggie burrito, and it was just the right amount of food. They are not currently doing happy hour. Our server the first time we went for dinner was incredible. We went right as they opened and had no issues getting a table. The second time, we went around 530 and still got a table pretty quick, but the server was a bit terse and slightly rude. We still enjoyed our food and drinks though!
I had a great time with my wife at this rooftop restaurant. The entrance is kinda hidden. When google says you have arrived look for an elevator and head to the 4th floor. Had the spicy strawberry margarita and at first it was not spicy but the burn increases as you drink. Make sure you leave space for a desert.
The establishment offers a pleasant ambiance and music for enjoyment. However, the alcoholic beverages lack potency, and the cuisine is heavily Americanized, catering to a broad audience rather than providing authentic Mexican flavors. Additionally, the prices are considered excessive, and the portion sizes are relatively small. Having revisited the island, I do not anticipate returning to this establishment. Regrettably, I believe insufficient effort was invested in developing the recipes.
This place is great but Chinita is what really makes this the place to be in Waikiki! She makes the best spicy margaritas in the area! This place wouldn’t be anything without her.
I was able to dine here about a year ago and had a good experience. They were able to adequately make room for and serve a part of like 15, which was rare in Waikiki, so we were very grateful for this! Got veggie tacos and they werent anything special - a bit underseasoned.Dined here, again, about a week ago. Had a really good meal. Got chips + salsa - the chips seem house-made which were good. We also got the pumpkin-flavored cocktails! (Margarita + martini). I was shocked by how tasty these were. The pumpkin was totally there, but they were not overly pumpkin-spicey, sweet, or anything like that. SO well balanced and impressive! Boyfriend got Lilikoi Margarita, which was very yummy. For dinner I got The build-your-own-taco dish- which I LOVED! Not a bad price and love the array of fix-ins for the tacos!Service was great!!
Jax was our server. She was super sweet and made our experience lovely. I got the spicy margarita and veggie burrito. Everything was great the atmosphere is great.
What I enjoy about this spot is its Downtown Hawaii. The drinks arent that great, but who cares after like about 9:30 pm or 10pm. The place turns into a nice dance hall. Taco Tuesdays are simply the best. You can sit at a traditional table or the fire pit table, making the atmosphere a whole vibe. Lots of laughs & meeting local & or visits. The fun cranks up once the DJ arrives. From VIP seating to an open dance floor where you can salsa the night away. Buho is a must visit if youre ever in town.
3.5 Stars. The place is Great. The staff is Great. The views are Great. The service was Great...The food was underwhelming 😪The prices are $4 more per item than your should pay but its Hawaii..!As a Mexican born & raised on Mexican food, I would say too much paprika, chili powder, and cumin. And still, the flavor was somewhat bland. The Street 🌽 Corn looked 👀 amazing but didnt deliver that familiar sabroso flavor. Our nachos were just okay , the shrimp ceviche was flavorless and only had a small portion of shrimp in the small serving they delivered. The best dish was the pork belly flautas. They had some taste to them, but still not good enuf to bring me back for a 2nd chance.I understand this is an international tourist location, and that they need to cater to a wide variety of people from all over the world. I just cant give them a pass for food that has to be blanched & diluted in order to make the sale. And then expect to begiven the Mexican Badge of quality, taste, and authenticity a real Mexican joint deserves.I understand its all personal preference and one mans opinion and thats why Im writing this review. Its just my opinion. My old school Mexican mom handmade everything, yeah Im spoiled, but I know what its supposed to taste like. I really wish I wasnt the case I love this place for everything else, except the food.
Great tacos, they tasted really nice. However way too expensive, charging 16 dollars (tax included) for three small tacos is a bit much when an adult typically need 6 to get anywhere close to full. Pleasent staff and a nice view
This is a hidden gem. Quiet earlier in the evening. Still a nice ambiance. I had the chicken enchilada and it was absolutely fantastic. The honey had the Santa Fe Salad and it was awesome as well. The drinks were great and specials were nice too.Definitely will be back.
We were lured in by the giant light up sign on the building this is in that said something like margaritas and mamacitas or something goofy like that. We were craving tacos and margaritas, but it seems that the consensus is that Honolulu is not the hot spot for great Mexican food. This place hit the spot. Sure, its not super authentic or amazing Mexican food, but it was good. I want to give 5 stars for the service because our waitress was really great at her job and friendly. But the food is more in the 3-4 range for me. I got the build your own taco plate. For $16 not a bad deal. I chose the fish tacos, though there is several meats to choose from. You can add on various sauces and toppings too and it comes with some basic ones already. I enjoyed my fish tacos they were crispy and tasty. I got beans and rice on the side and they were very basic, nothing special. We got guacamole and chips. The guacamole I suspect has sour cream in it, so its definitely more creamy than chunky. Also it lacks salt. The guac was meh but not bad. Super fun city life rooftop bar vibe here. The margaritas were good. Id come again for the location and good taco deal, just dont expect the most amazing authentic Mexican food.
The one star is for the ambience but literally this place has the worst food I have ever tasted in my life. I guess there is a reason why Taco Bell has the highest rating for tacos on this island because nobody here can make good tacos. Our server ignored us the whole time and we had to get the busser to get our server for us if we needed anything. The worst part is that they don’t even make the tacos for you. They sell rip-off “taco kits” for $16 for the basics and you have to make the tacos yourself. If you want sour cream, rice, beans, onions salsa, etc, you have to get them for an up charge starting at $1 for onions. The tacos weren’t served with limes and the meat quality was absolutely horrific. This is tomfoolery and bamboozlement as our bill came out to $90 for a drink, 2 “taco kits” and nachos. Next time we will definitely go to Taco Bell.
Food quality and customer service are not up to par….prices are way up there for what you get. The waitress was rude and hardly came to our tablet, if she was to come we would make inappropriate remarks to my husband in front of me, barely making eye contact with me…. Not a good experience at all. Regretting going there to spend that amount of money for what little we got.
Food service waiters and staff suck, not welcoming and everything takes forever. i got a salsa with no chips for over 15 minutes and a missing soda for about 20 minutes. not a welcoming filling restaurant
Great rooftop dining experience. Great service and the delicous food was just the right amount. Loved the three salsas and rhe homemade mexican chocolate ice cream.
Delicious food, variety of drinks and good seating area. Me and my girl friend had chicken burrito bowl and chorizo quesadilla. They were delicious and right portion size. Our server nicco was attentive. Highly recommended if you are looking for some basic delicious Mexican food which is easy on your wallet in Waikiki 😎
Maybe we got lucky based on other reviews, but the service we got was spectacular. We were a group of 7 & were taken care of well from the time we sat down until we paid. The food is fine for what it is (mexican cuisine in Hawaii). When the weathers nice, I can see this being a draw with an open rooftop and large bar; theres apparently also music on certain days - sadly we came on a Wednesday & it was very quiet and tame. The guac is made tableside and was good. The queso fundido & chips/salsa were also pretty good. Id skip the fish tacos (lacking in flavor).Good selection of quality tequila.
I came here for their social salsa night. Disappointed for two reasons. First, I was looking for social dancing while in town and it was just a dj playing club type of music. Second reason, when getting inside, the security guard was rude and discrmoninatory to a couple gentlemen trying to get in. The two guys had an ID of their country. Im assuming somewhere from central america. The security guard raised his voice to them and said I dont speak spanish or understand your ID. You cant go in. When I made it to the bar I asked for a manager, Maria, and asked if an ID from another country was not aceptable. I explained the situation and she told me she was going to inform the security team lead. I give them two stars for the drink and for the manager listening to my concern and trying to address it.
Came here on a Saturday night for more drinks and stumbled upon salsa night, had an awesome time with my girl friend. The drinks were strong and delicious, recommend the Mexican mule. We also tried the Wagyu beef nachos and they were really great. Our server was very nice and super quick. Had a great time!
Tacos were really tasty but the portions were small, the margaritas were honestly really bad and it seemed like they didnt put any lime juice in them? The place also smelled like sewage which was.... not great
Not sure how you can justify forcefully kicking out an individual because of something she did not do. They claimed to have proof on cameras and when we asked to see this footage they denied it ever being on camera. This place and their security guards are crooked and will kick out individuals for things that never happened only to flush out individuals who don’t drink to gain more money. I will never support this place again solely because of their security and I urge you to do the same.
Love buhos and the music. Chinita is the best bartender there! She’s always super friendly and takes care of the customers. Everybody that goes looks forward to seeing her there!
The food here is delicious a bit pricey but it was good I really enjoy the food here. Our waiter Danny was great he was very professional and was just a joyful guy made our experience awesome. I have been here before but it took tonight‘s experience to leave a review all because of Danny. I honestly feel like restaurants should have more people like Danny he was such a great guy thank you again Danny for the awesome experience.
My girlfriend heard about this place before coming to Hawaii so we were a little excited to go. It has a great vibe when you walk in, very cool rooftop bar and restaurant. The service was good to start off with and the cocktails were great suggested by our waiter. The food was very tasty but it almost took an hour to come out and when ordering another round of drinks it took 20 minutes to get them. Really wanted to give this place 5 stars but the service was poor. Food and drinks “when your get them” are 5 stars for me
Everything was cold except for the taco meat, which was just spooned from the warmer. Flavor of the carnitas tacos and brisket tacos was great, but I would have liked it heated beater prior to serving. Corn tortillas were were straight out of the package. Black beans were canned and cold. Rice was cooked but served cold. Freash veggies for the taco kits were good. It has potential, but fell short of a good mark for the competative Waikiki.
Service was terribleJazz our server would not allow any substitutions such as flour tortillas or black beans . Had to go to manager to get it straightened out.manager handled it wellJazz should be fired for her attirude
Loved this place Food was amazing we got shrimp tacos, quesadilla, nachos, and bean burito. the fusion of of hawaillan and Mexican was amazingand on point with flavors. I wish there was one closer to us on mainland. But just one of many reasons to go back on another trip to Oahu.
The food was great and everything but the portion was quite small. The service was amazing, but the atmosphere could have been a bit better.
We loved the great vibe, moreish Mexican menu and fabulous live music. If you think spicy is nicey, then the food really hits the spot and there are some great deals to be had at happy hour when some food items are slashed in price. On Tuesdays they do $2 tacos but get there early or be prepared to wait in a long line.
Waitress was so mean and kept rolling her eyes at our group. added an extra dish we didn’t order. watered down drinks. lost our ids.
Went for dinner here and it was such a great time! Food was awesome, drinks were tasty and our waiter was super friendly and very attentive!! And after dinner they had a live DJ that played great dancing music for all types of dancers and listeners. In general, the atmosphere was welcoming and super friendly, prices were decent for a open air rooftop in the middle of Waikiki!! Oh and bring some cash with you to tip the lovely lady at the ladies’ room, she was so kind and has over 20 different lotions to choose from after you wash your hands, I loved it!! Super recommended!!!
Nice restuarant on a roof top down in Waikiki. Food is either very good or nothing special (more personal preference when it comes to seasoning), not worth the price unless youre there for happy hour. Other than that, presentation is on point. Service is very good and attentive. Restaurant layout is interesting and meant for bigger groups. Theres seating specifically for reservations and if you have no reservations theres an almost cafeteria style seating where multiple people or smaller groups can be put onto one table. Bar is nice and long with many option and the drinks are pretty good.
Amazing views and service on this rooftop bar that sits so close to Waikiki beach! We loved our drinks and couldn’t believe how good their quesabirria and Buho burritos were - definitely a must try! We’d probably pass on their taco’s next time - came during Taco Tuesday special and unfortunately both the pastore and chicken were dry and drowned in all the toppings instead of being accentuated by the toppings. You’ll definitely receive efficient and attentive service from the staff at Buho Cocina y Cantina!
Up on the 5th floor. Food was good. Service was great. Prices. Just expect to pay double anywhere in the twin cities of Hawaii. Also don’t expect the usual chips and salsa complimentary like in the mainland. No signature feature. Paid a lot of a very bad blended margarita. Should have been $5. Not $13. The taste and the small size was weak. Sorry. Just not anything that would make me want to come back.
A great place to get some good quality Mexican food. Its easy to miss, but has easily become one of my new favorite places.
The worst nightclub Ive been to in Honolulu. Granted, it has nice vibes and I was really enjoying myself with my friends for our mutual friends birthday celebration. However, I pulled out my puffbar and hit it once and was immediately escorted out to the street for breaking a no-vape policy I was never made aware of. The staff member was incredibly rude when I said it wouldnt happen again and seemed as if he was letting some personal anger get the best of him. Loved the spot until I didnt. I wish it had gone better because it would deserve 5 stars if not. I understand a no smoking/vaping policy (even if its a rooftop bar) but that needs to be clear and told before entering to avoid this sitaution.
Chinita was an amazing bartender! Made some of the best drinks ive tasted, and super personable, 10/10 recommend. Def coming back
Chinita was the best bartender she was so nice and attentive. It was such a wonderful experience.
Amazing service! Chi it’s Took care of a larrgggeee group and got us drinks on time and kindly! Contributed to the fun spirit!
We went here for dinner & drinks back on March 10,2022 and walked 25 minutes to be extremely disappointed. The waitress I forgot her name (she had long brown hair) was not friendly, slow & made us wait almost 15 -20 minutes after giving us the menu. The food was bland and not flavorful at all. It was overpriced and not worth $17 for 3 tacos. Then when we waited another 20 minutes just to get our check meanwhile she was at another table sitting down and talking to one of her friends!! This was certainly not fine dining and certainly not worth the price!
Terrible Friday night DJ!The place is great, good service and great drinks but empty dance floor. The DJ is rude, I came to him showing on my phone if he can play some Latin music like bad bunny, Maluma or Carol G to which he shook his shoulders and hands side to side like he didn’t know how to read and kept playing the same tunes for the next two hours that no one can relate to…very disappointing… don’t waste you Friday night!
Could not do a food review...so sad but Worst place. We called the restaurant to make sure we could eat there and the lady on the phone said as long as we show up by 10:30 pm we could order despite there website stating the kitchen is open till 11:00. We get there by 10:20 pm exactly. The door man said we had to get in line thats when we told him the lady told us on the phone that we had to be there by 10:30 to be able to eat and told us not to worry we would be fine because we had till 11:00 loke the website says. You have to wait in line to get you into the elevator to go to the 4th floor. We go into the restaurant 2 min pass 10:30 and they denied us. They were rude and said they have a strict policy and will not seat us. We pleaded with them and pointed out that we were early and had to wait in line. You have to wait for the people to get off and wait to get on. How in the world is that our fault. Their team needs to have better communication which we told her and she said thats impossible since they have so much turnover of their employees that they can not keep up with training their new employees on their STRICT POLICY. There is also no mention of their STRICT DINNING POLICY on their website. When asked to speak to a manager the other hostess stated, WE ARE THE MANAGERS If this is how the managers are running this restaurant they should have a better understanding of customer service and training. Having your team informed of pertinent information is a must in ALL Business. Why in the world would we have called and make sure we could eat just to be denied rudely. The one thing that gets me is Saying that you have so much turn over is not the flex you think it is.
10/10 experience. Renee was a top tier waitress and I highly recommend ordering the guacamole!
Food grade has definitely changed. I felt like I could of made the food at home or either I got old food from the day before. My rice looked fresh bit it was hard like paraboiled rice or something. the beef was in such big cubes.... tooo big and not soft or tender for carne asada. I made reservations and was the 1st one there at 440pm. I have a child. They sat me by an electrical cord that was easy to grab that was dangling from the wall outlet. Then I asked for a highchair and all the straps were cut from it... it was very unsafe.. my child wasnt able to be strapped in for safety. I have enjoyed this restaurant in the past but my feelings definitely changed after spending $50 on a childrens meal and an adult steak taco plate.
It’s the 21st century. Celiac people should have at least one gluten free option.
Excellent ambiance on the roof: the lighting and the open air is really nice! We got the Fish Tacos and the Tacos al Pastor; both were quite tasty. I especially liked the pork on the al pastor. If you like spicy, they have a little section of spicy margaritas at different heat levels. I got the Yin and Yang, and it was hot! Tyler was our server; he was really friendly and gave some good recommendations for drinks later, and directions to the beach.
Awesome atmosphere. Great music and vibes. Salsa is amazing, guac was okay but would be better if they were able to do fresh made to order guac. I had brisket tacos, which they were good I enjoyed them. The rice was dry and not so great. The black beans were also pretty bland and not that great. My husband (who is Mexican as this is our favorite type of food), was not satisfied. He ordered the pork tacos and said they were very bland. Just adding cumin and chili powder to meats and fresh lime would make a huge difference. The drinks were very good though. The margaritas are great and my husbands spicy drink was very good.
Great rooftop bar/resto:- Food was delicious: I ordered mole. And not a lot of restaurants got this right and Buho definitely got it right. Just right amount of heat and pack full of flavor.- Drinks: great selection of margarita. Tried their gingery margarita and it was amazing.- Ambiance: casual and lively. They had DJs when we were there and was told that they will be having a mechanical bull ride machine. This place have a little bit of everything, food, drinks, fun and music.
Advertised happy hour drinks and food, werent offered any or when we asked were told not Wednesday, drinks ok guacamole nice, but false advertising sorry guys but when website says happy hours drinks and food we expected something
The food was absolutely terrible. 😞 I was expecting at least edible, I did not get that. Cold, tasteless, and when you order medium salsa it it a mango sweet salsa.
Great time in Buho! We were served by Sasha, I thank him for his friendliness, advice on the menu, he talked about everything in detail, explained, the conversations with him were interesting, he always brought drinks quickly! Cool dude! My friends birthday went off with a bang! Only one minus, why is your guacamole not tasty? this is very strange, because it is not hard to cook it! And the beef quesadilla is delicious, the meat is the softest! Of the cocktails, I liked buho blues the most, it is very pleasant to drink, you can feel the coconut and the presentation is beautiful! At 9 pm they start a disco 🪩 with a DJ. There is a bathroom attendant in the restrooms, so prepare a tip for them, as their job is not pleasant.
Love coming here with my family, food is always so amazing! Chinita is the best and always takes care of us we love her!!
Went there for the drinks and atmosphere. I ordered a classic, old-fashioned and a Cuba Libre. Both drinks were on point.
We enjoyed the rooftop views and the atmosphere. The food was really delicious, with nice sauces/salsas.
Delicious food, with Hawaiian/American flair! It was good, but not authentic Mexican food. Happy hour margarita was seriously a glass of ice with just a little bit of the drink, so we didnt order more...But the food was great!! We had chips and salsa, fish tacos, and a beef chimichanga. All meals had a little spice to them, but were good.
We came here towards the end of our honeymoon on margarita Monday. The food was authentic and delicious, the $5 margaritas were excellent and Briana was an attentive and delightful waitress. Its a shame we found this place so late in our trip. I could see us spending many nights up here on the rooftop. Also the Halloween decorations were great!
Chinita makes the best drinks in the place. Definitely recommend this place especially if chinita is there
Showed up for taco Tuesday but ended up getting the nachos, the nachos were alright but what really set the night on fire was the fantastic open air rooftop atmosphere, live salsa music, beautiful friendly staff and great service. The food was three star but I gave it an extra star for the great live experience and atmosphere.
Nice place to hangout, dance live music or DJ. Bar its nice. The only thing I dislike, the bathroom, it needs a renovation.
Hmmm…. I’m not one to write reviews but I feel a need to this time. my husband and I were on the lookout for some good Mexican food while in Waikiki so I did a bit of researching. We saw some 5 star reviews on this place and some one star reviews …..so we thought we’d give it a try. I’d put my vote smack in the centre on that . Our service sucked . It felt like our waitress was on day 2. The food…very mediocre. A white sour cream was on top of everything…. No extra sides …. Certainly wouldn’t write home about it…. But I’d give the margs a 4.5/5. Thank god for them is all I can say. The ambience was lacking art and it’s definitely suited for a crowd 25 and under .Personally if u want something small intimate and very Mexican tasting and feeling, choose elsewhereThat’s my 2 cents
Chinita makes amazing drinks and is exceptionally attentive when it comes to her customers. I try to get a drink from her everytime I go to Buho.
I recently visited Buho Cocina y Cantina and unfortunately, I was extremely disappointed with the level of customer service I received. It was evident that the staff lacked the proper training and attentiveness that one would expect from a restaurant of this caliber. From the moment I entered, I was greeted with indifference by the hostess. She seemed more interested in her personal conversation than acknowledging my presence. It took an unnecessarily long time for her to seat me, despite there being available tables.Once I was seated, the waitstaff seemed rushed and disorganized. It was challenging to get their attention, and when I did, they appeared impatient and uninterested in helping. They provided minimal information about the menu and seemed annoyed when I asked questions or requested recommendations.Throughout the meal, there was a lack of attention to detail. My drink order was incorrect, and it took several attempts to get it rectified. The waitstaff rarely checked in on me, and when I needed something, I had to resort to waving my hand or calling out to them, which was quite embarrassing. To make matters worse, when I asked to speak with a manager to address my concerns, I was met with resistance. The manager seemed dismissive and unapologetic, showing no interest in addressing the issues I had encountered.Overall, my experience at Buho Cocina y Cantina was extremely disappointing. The lack of attentiveness, unhelpful staff, and dismissive management left me with a sour taste in my mouth. I had expected much more from a restaurant that prides itself on its cuisine and service. I hope that the management takes this feedback into consideration and makes the necessary changes to improve the overall customer experience.
The food was not at par which it should be in a Mexican restaurant. The chips and salsa which you get free on mainland . They charge $5 for it . Everthing extra is charged including jalapeno
I love this place! Chinita makes the best custom hand-crafted cocktails and provides the best experience!
We arrived at this place as we were walking on the street and from far we listened to Latin music, we decided to check the place and we loved the atmosphere, very friendly, excellent music, it was late so we only had margaritas, the waitress was a little slow and the prices were OK. If you go to Waikiki and you like Latin Music don’t miss this one out. Thanks
Such a disappointment. Maybe because I am from Vegas by way of New Mexico but I expected a little authenticity. The descriptions on the menu were authentic but the taste was not. Ordered the carnitas tacos special only to receive a tray with a small bowl of what seemed to be boiled pork 3 stacked tortillas and barely enough veggies to make two tacos. Chips and salsa were an extra significant charge and none of the 11 of us, from around the world, liked the sauces. They werent terrible but not worth spending money on for any other reason than the nostalgia of chips and salsa at a real Mexican restaurant. Spent roughly $500, with a 15% off coupon, for food and drinks and most only had one drink and nobody more than 2. Its in Waikiki where everything is overpriced but the lack of effort from this restaurant makes it a never return for me
I bet this is a fun bar later at night! We ate with our young adult kids at 6 pm and were the only ones in the restaurant. Fortunately it filled in a bit before we left by 7:30. Sadly, Buho was out of stock of certain easy appetizers, the food was just average and the clearance of plates was not great. Good news: our waiter-from France- was very kind.
Had a great date night here with my husband. The rooftop view was gorgeous, the food was great, and the drinks were excellent. The serving portions were plentiful and the margaritas and mojitos are the best on island. Our server Patrick was polite and attentive to our table so we never had to worry about waiting too long for ordering or refills. Would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone👌
Awesome service and delicious food! Much cheaper than eating so so Mexican from a food truck.
So not a fan. I ordered chicken enchiladas and the server should of explained that beans were going in the enchiladas. I dont know why theres beans and usually rice mixed in everything on the island. I asked for salsa they served me mole sauce. They need to read a Mexican food dictionary. Yikes and I paid $3.50 for a side of cheese. Hard pass.
My friends got kicked out for being gay. This establishment is homophobic and does not welcome gay people. Friends and I came here for late night drinks, since they had a DJ. We were all having a good time. There were people making out on the dance floor right in front of the DJ, which was pretty normal in a club at midnight. There were even straight couples grinding, which went unnoticed by the staff. But when my two gay friends decided to make out as well, they were instantly stopped by the bouncer and escorted to the exit. My friends repeatedly asked why they were being kicked out, and all the bouncer said was “You guys need to leave.” We spent over a hundred dollars on drinks at this establishment only to get kicked out for doing what everyone else was— the only difference was everybody else was straight. Shame on this place.
Staff were friendly enough but definitely need better directions if your coming through the shopping centre or if its your first time there, otherwise youll end up coming through the back of the restaurant.I went with my wife for Taco Tuesday and for the price, Id of expected to see at least 2, maybe 3 Tacos but instead you only get one, really small taco. Definitely not enough to know if you actually enjoy it or not.We ended up ordering nachos instead which were fantastic!
There is nice view at this restaurant. The service is nice and friendly, but price is lil expensive to me. I know the other tacos restaurants which is more reasonable and delicious than here. This portion is small for me. I wanted bigger portion for my dinner at the night. Im not sure Ill come back here...
Food was great, drinks were great. Our server/bartender Chinita probably gave the best service I’ve had in Hawaii.
They take your name and number, and say theres a wait, and will text you when a table is ready, but if you dont tip, they wont text you. They tell you to wait around and buy watered-down drinks for 20 dollars in the meantime. Be a restaurant if thats what you are, but dont act like a club.
Although portions and location were great the food itself was just not great. We were a party of eight and we basically tried their whole menu and we picked at everything because the favor and seasoning were just not there. For the price of the food we expected it to match in flavor but it fell way short.
Awesome food, amazing service and reasonable prices. Highly recommend!
Food was not good, I got the enchiladas and it was such a disappointment, overpriced too. Piña colada they were really good and the waitress was on training but she did pretty good, very nice service from her. The environment was beautiful and peaceful but unfortunately the food is not worth it.
The rooftop atmosphere and drinks were the two pieces holding this place together. However, service was inefficient and poor. Better management needed overall. Several tables around us were ignored for 30 minutes or longer, including ours. If they can fix the service aspect, this could be a great place.
Great view and great atmosphere! Friendly server and great food and drinks.
With a couple of Friends we orderd at first margaritas und Corona. They bring the Corona in a cane, which ist not Waikiki Niveau and The margaritas are not good. The Tacos are a Joke. Very very little and you only can taste the dough. The burritos were okay but not More. And after the meal WE had stomach problems. After we decided to make a kind criticism, the waitor was really kind, but the Manager was Not courteous at all. The Toilettes are also Bad. For the price you can eat better and a Lot more in Waikiki. Unfortunatly a really disappointing evening.
This is a mixed review. Very limited menu and the food is not as good as they charge for, but is still acceptable in quality and taste. Location is pretty awesome. Service was very good, server was attentive and polite. My main gripe is the restaurant just seems to think they are better than they really are. It carries itself like they make the best Mexican food in the country but in fact is barely above average. They also have a 2 hour maximum dining time which just really rubs me the wrong way. Youd be better served going to a smaller restaurant that is trying to impress you with their food rather than spending more than you need to here.
The food is ok. Not special but decent. Atmosphere is nice because of it being rooftop but not special for any other reason. You are paying to be rooftop, not for amazing food or service. We brought visiting family there because they like Mexican food & we thought rooftop would be a cool setting. The drinks & apps came in a reasonable amount of time. We had to wait for almost 2 hours for our entrees. The waiter said the kitchen was having a meltdown & we would be comped some for our extraordinary wait. Waiter didnt bring all the food out together, but as it was made, I guess, which made it awkward for everyone because were starving at this point & some of us have food & others dont. The last meal to come out was not what was ordered & when I said this wasnt my food, the waiter said, Youre right. Well... you can eat it. and started to walk away. I told him I preferred to have what I ordered & didnt want to be eating someone elses food but if my actual order had not been cooked & its not supposed to go to another table, that I guess I would. He left & shortly my food came. The waiters response to all of this kinda blew my mind. He was busy & they were likely short staffed. Our service & enjoyment definitely suffered from it. The discount given was pretty meager. We didnt argue about it. We wanted to leave. If we had known what was going to happen, we would have gone somewhere else. We live here & know there are too many places to have a much more enjoyable time with service & food that is better.
Chinita was the sweetest bartender, best drinks in hawaii!
Its unfortunate when you simply want a bowl of ceviche and chips but you get told the chef wont do it because of presentation...didnt realize the chef ran the company...what a joke
Love this place, can never find it or remember the name though. Awesome rooftop Bar
Drinks were great. Food was average. Service was underwhelming. After waiting for 20 min, we were offered a table but only if we could be done in an hour. The Guacamole that came with chips & guac came in a paper cup! There are plenty of other options nearby, skip this one.
Amazing Experience…Melanie is by far the reason to come back; Along with good foodService Was Absolutely Outstanding
Buho Cocina is a great place to chill and get a giant bowl of Guaq and chips as well as a diverse selection of cocktails. Its on the top floor and the balcony seating has mainly rooftop views of the surrounding buildings. Would recommend to anyone looking for good Mexican food and great cocktails.
Loved the rooftop atmosphere, the music and dancing! As for what I ordered, not so much. It was the steak and chicken combo fajita. The food was ample, vegetables and chicken was delicious. But the steak, was overcooked, dry, and really tough. I even tried cutting it to very small pieces, but it was still tough and chewy. Other than that, the service was great given that we had a large group. I would definitely go back to experience the atmosphere. But order something else.
Really amazing food. Sauces , meat , tortillas, and that crispy quesabirria is top teir. Food came out so fast, it was fresh and the flavors are outstanding and unique.
First we had a near impossible time finding this restaurant. We arrived and were greeted and seated very quickly. Our waiter arrived quite quickly to take our drink order. They were out of most of their beers. Both draft and bottle. Seems management would get a handle on that. Thats strike 1. We did agree on our drinks and they arrived very quickly. Then our waiter took our food order. My wife order a street corn which came out before our food order. I had fajitas. Two issues on this plate alone. My beans were cold and so were the tortillas. Its not really fair when I review Mexican food restaurants. I am married to a Mexican national who happens to be an awesome cook. This was Tex Mex at best. Sorry folks. Not authentic Mexican food. Sorry if my review stings but Im being honest. Would not return. The staff is what got this place any stars. Need to try harder.
We kicked off our visit to Honolulu with dinner at one of my favorite cuisine #Mexican. We went to @buhocantina! The service was great and the food was okay.
