Shark Bar

I had so much fun last Friday night, at Kansas City Live. We hung out at the Shark Bar, I lost my medication container, and the bartender, Alyssa, picked it up right away, and put it behind the bar. I was able to call and get it the next day. That’s crazy, to me that a bar being so busy, will take the time, and put something away. The service was great!!! I will definitely go back there again.

Just terrible! Went in for 15 minutes & the DJ was soooooooo awful we left. People should have to pay a cover charge for a DJ that has no idea what they are doing.Whoever the DJ was lastnight 6-9 around 11 PM needs to find a new job. I don’t appreciate losing time or money just to have to leave cuz yall can’t have a good DJ up there.

Went in with my fiancée and her friend. I was kicked out with no justification after a suspicious person said something to the manager. Afterwards that same person grabbed my fiancée’s behind before she could leave. I did not appreciate how rude the manager was and refused to even try and provide any justification to me nor allow me to leave with my fiancée.

Shark Bar used to be a great place to dance to good music, but lately the DJ has been terrible! Even on NYE the DJ played entire songs, yes from start to finish, and not even good songs. If you can get past the $20 cover, and the long lines for drinks and a strangely set up dance floor then maybe the bad music is for you 🤷‍♀️

My favorite place to go out in P&L whenever I visit Kansas City. Great atmosphere, great drinks & an awesome staff. The bottle service options are unmatched and very reasonably priced, with Kate providing great service.Upon my last visit, I had left my vest at the coat drop. Zak and Stangela were incredibly helpful by mailing my vest back to me in Texas the next day, which was appreciated very muchI would recommend Shark Bar to anyone looking for a great time!

I love my time here. The environment is so good it’s all vibes. Kate is the best bartender. She’s always in a positive mood and ensuring her guest are all having a good time. 10/10 I wouldn’t come here if she didn’t work here.

Great drinks. The way the pool tables run kind of suck. We were there for 1 1/2-2 hours and never got to play

I have been here a few times. The music is okay in my opinion. The drinks are overpriced. You can go to surrounding bars for cheaper drinks. The bathrooms are usually pretty gross. My recent experience this past weekend I went here and they normally they charge $20 a person. The lady upfront charged us $40 a person. She was aggressive upon me asking about it and kept calling me “babe”. I called her “babe” back and it made her more aggressive. I told her, I changed my mind and don’t want to go in. She threw my card at me. My boyfriend was confused and tried going in, the lady and I both stopped him. We left and went somewhere else. A couple days later, checked the bank account and we were charged $80 anyways even though we never stepped foot in. There is no one to contact about this of course. The rudeness and miscommunication will insure I don’t return.

My favorite place to go out on weekends in shark bar! Awesome dj’s, great atmosphere, but the best part about shark bar is the bartenders who make it so much more fun! Everytime I go, Kate always makes my night with her great energy and great drinks! Go see her and give her your $$$$ ❤️

This place is not it. No offense to the house DJ that played tonight but it was not worth the $20 a person to get in and $100+ in drinks we spent. The transitions and the music choices were not worth the money we spent at all. We would have rather spent the money at Mosaic for a much better DJ

Came here because we heard they had fish bowls and were super excited! We came in and there was absolutely no one in the bar. It was definitely cold so we chalked it up the weather. We found a place to sit and then a few of us went to order said fish bowl and were informed, we dont have those. And after asking for what they did have the bartender just said were a plastic cup bar. ???? We got some basic drinks after a few more Were a plastic cup bar comments. They were fine, but I dont know why the bartender emphasized the plastic cup part when they still charged $10 a drink... while we were ordering the rest of our party was informed we weren’t allowed to sit down because only VIPS can reserve the tables (that wasnt marked or indicated anywhere) and we could either stand or go outside in the 25 degree weather. AGAIN, there was no one in the bar, so I would argue we were VVVIP, but whatever. We downed our basic drinks and left. This place is not worth it and looking at the other reviews now, they dont seem to be getting any better.

The bartenders may be attractive, but they are complete a holes. They will give you snide looks and make you feel totally uncomfortable when you are there. The owner needs to do some cleaning up starting with the self entitled employees.

DO NOT give this bar your card to start a tab. Only use cash! They put other peoples drinks on our tab all night. When we told them it was incorrect at the end of the night, they claimed to have fixed it, but they didnt. We were left with a fraudulent bar tab and they dont return phone calls to to fix it. Extremely unsafe and unprofessional with financial information!Update as of January 27, 2023, I emailed the owner after he left the reply to my review, which was 4 months after I left the original review so the 3-5 day comment was invalid. I have never received a response so please do not give your credit card information to this bar!

If I could give this place a zero star, I would. If you are stamping the back of your patrons hands with a light highlighter yellow stamp, of course it is going to wash away instantly when you wash your hands after going to the restroom. If your expectation is that a patron show a stamp to get back in, stamp on the wrist with a dark color and please find someone to work the register who understands that people wash their hands after using the restroom.

Boyfriend and I came here, to celebrate for my birthday. We arent locals, so I also know we kind of looked out of place but I feel like we were intentionally looked over. We stood at the bar for over 10 minutes and did not get any help. Bartender kept helping others, who looked more like party goers than us. She kept looking at us but never helped us. We ended up leaving and going to another bar. Dont recommend , this place isnt too friendly.

I went to the Trixie Mattel show and was on the Patio. I had a great time. The staff were very friendly and helpful and willing to accommodate special needs. The drinks were great.

They have maybe the worst DJ in a 180 mile radius. At no point did he blend any songs together or match the bpm or mood of the previous song. I am 100% certain AI technology could DJ better running on an Acer computer. I swear on everything he didn’t play a song from the last 7 years.

Beware this bar is RACIST. I went out with a group of friends on 8/20 and was apparently not welcomed. According to security, I was too aggressive towards my friends (which was immediately denied BY my friends, mind you) and was made uncomfortable enough where I knew I wasnt welcomed. I have never in my life been in a place of business where I was harassed until I left. They never asked me to leave, but they made in known that my blackness made them uncomfortable. I would like to emphasize that I was the only one singled out in my group of friends and conveniently, they got the only other black person that worked there to harass me. They knew exactly what they were doing. Absolutely terrible experience. If I could give Shark Bar zero stars, I absolutely would. DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME OR MONEY HERE. Also the drinks were bad. Really bad. Like, I ordered a gin and tonic and that glass was all gin man. So not only are they racist, but they cant even make a decent drink so... big yikes.

Literally the best club around, everyone that works there is amazing if you do go there ask for Kate she’s amazing and will take care of you!

Brought 11 ladies for a bachelorette party and loved it! We knew every song that played (80s-2000s pop and alt rock). Black lights illuminate guests and the beach themed decor. A large dance floor boasts two raised runways if youre feeling the catwalk. A few of us purchased the the Shark Bar large cups that had discounted cocktail refills and could be taken to other clubs in the district. Heads up, the pre-made cocktails are SO SUGARY. We did enjoy the multiple bars, fully stocked with pretty bar tenders in their scantily clad beach babe uniforms. The balcony allowed a great view of the district center square, including the big screen that played the real-time Royals game. My most impressed moment came from our attempt to leave with glass bottles and the security quickly flagging us down to transfer the alcohol into a disposable plastic cup before we continued our journey.

Visited during a KC Live event. No cover before 10pm. Bartender and Manager answered all my questions about bottle service. Music was a decent mix that got people dancing. A very friendly atmosphere with a diverse crowd.

Here Right now that’s how bored I am . 8/24/19 I guess they fired the DJ we had a couple weeks ago because this one is horrible . We rented a section the first time with 10 people had such a great time . We told our friends invited everyone out had at least 20 there rented a section again . And it’s 11:22pm and the music is horrible. Don’t waste your time. Wish there was no stars because I had to at least give them one .

Very frustrating experience. Went to the KC Live Diplo concert and got VIP terrace tickets. Patronized Shark Bar the entire concert and as soon as the concert was over the bouncer wouldn’t even let us back in the bar without waiting in line AND paying cover charge. I had to wait in line and pay a $5 cover charge just to pay over $100 bar tab. This experience was less than desirable and I was frustrated to be treated this way. It seems like a fun cool place, the bar tenders were nice, but the bouncer was not nice at all. I definitely will not be back here and I can’t imagine anyone else would go unless it was a KC Live event. The drinks are overpriced and not quality. I will never pay cover here again to spend roughly $10 a drink.

I went in and walked through to see if someone was working, I didnt stay or have a drink. The doorman greeted me but i think he was private security not a bar employee. The two bartenders that were there, one was counting money and I think taking a phone call, the other had a few guys standing around drinking chatting it up. I left shark and pnl in a hurry but Ill go back when its warm. For first Friday there was a ton of people walking around downtown but I have no idea where the were going because the kc live was empty and there wasnt a show at the sprint center.

Booth was pretty cheap comes with one bottle and infinity refills on juice. Very diverse crowd, the dj was very interesting the music was all over the place it was very hard to groove lol ... if you get the last booth next to the balcony door beware you are under the leaky A.C unit

Came in from out of town to experience PNL and this was the best bar we went to by a long shot. The atmosphere and the music were awesome. The bartenders/waitstaff are very friendly and competent. The drinks are well-priced as well. Be sure to try the Ocean Water!

Definitely the best night time club in Kansas City. The staff there is Awesome and the drinks are just right. I love this club. When I go out with friends we all chooses to go to Sharks Bar! Music is a nice blend of current music and 80s and 90s.

My experience.. First and foremost dont purchase bottle service at this establishment. I paid half a grand to get kicked out because my friends were sitting on the head of the seats stating that hes repeatedly told us not to that he mentioned it once and we abided, it was one security guard who for some reason had a grudge against us for no reason, and also the friends had just arrived 5 minutes before this happened, so how did he repeatedly tell them this? Just dont purchase bottle service here, youll waste your money, theres other places that are a lot more fun than this in Power and Light for a table.

Beware of this place. The staff are very rude and bartenders try to take advantage of you. Always look at your bill and make sure they charge you for what you bought. I was overcharged and brought it up to the bartender she refused to correct it and proceeded to call the manager. I thought the issue would be resolved but he didnt want to refund me and said take it up with the card company and then said we had to leave. This was so off the wall it was unbelievable. Custimer service is a must and there was none thankfully my card company said they will take care of it. Go anywhere but here.

I really wasnt impressed most of my friends couldnt come till later so I had one person missing to get my free drinks. 2 of my friends were charged full price and that was after 7:30 we didnt realize until we got our second round off drinks. 5th person showed up around 8:30 and I asked if my friend signed in and they told me no. This whole thing seems like a big scam just to get people in there. We ended up leaving went to a different bar I dont think my friends and I will be back plenty of other bars in that area very disappointing

By far my favorite bar in Kansas City! The bartenders are very sexy in bikinis and they dance from the beginning to the very end. Love the patio and the great view of the stage in the Live! block. I highly recommend...

I Havent experienced racism in a long time until last night after this shark bar in Power & Lights. I weigh over 20 minutes for a drink and she skipped over me two times. That bartender saw me standing there did not take my order even a white couple next to me got her attention I let them go first because she got her attention they got the drinks and she still skipped over me again I suggest that no black people ever go to the bar.....

Queer Bar Takeover #QBTKC chooses a traditionally straight bar and takes it over on the second Saturday of each month. The Shark bar at Power & Light were great partners. Their staff, and DJ were extremely welcoming to our group of 150+ participants with great drink specials and lots of great music to dance the night away. Thank you Shark Bar for being such an amazing Queer allies and continuing to create a more inclusive world.

A $20 cover charge is a ripoff! Night was ruined due to your coverage charge! $20 is too much to pay for a bar that plays bad music and no dress code! Went there in July and the cover charge was $5 now you jumped to $20 definitely not worth it!

I would avoid going here. A group of my friends went here for a birthday party and while we were there dancing and minding our own business we noticed some of the bartenders dancing on the bar top. Which isnt unusual for this place. A young lady that had clearly had a little too much to drink tried to climb onto the bar with one of the male bartenders (who is very large and muscular) and as she got both her knees up and was getting ready to stand up the bartender put his foot on her and shoved her off the edge of the bar onto four other people. I think the fact that he waited until she was halfway up to do anything is just ridiculous. He also could have politely asled her to get back down. Now if youve ever been to this bar then you know that the bar top is very high off the ground so of course she was hurt and so were all of the people that she landed on. Shark bar did nothing to correct his actions or reprimand them. He still has his job. I would never want to go somewhere and have to worry about whether I am going to be injured when I leave.

My gf and I went out on a Saturday and had never been to power & light district before, so we decided to circle around the block to check out every bar before deciding which one to stay at for the rest of the night. Every other bar was okay, but there was something about Sharkbar that made us really enjoy the overall atmosphere and vibe, this was by far the best bar in the district. Drinks wise- I ordered one of the monkey coconuts to drink, I think it was called angry shark bite? But man, it was DELICIOUS! My gf didnt know what she wanted to drink so the bartender insisted that she try this cocktail. I asked him what it was called and he said a white gummy bear. Of course I tried my gfs drink cuz I paid for both, it was fantastic. The rest of the night I ordered those white gummy bear drinks from the same guy. He held on to my tab, which was super convenient and served me EVERYTIME I came up to get 2 more drinks even though he was extremely busy. I closed my tab in less than 30 seconds when we were finally ready to leave. Music- the music in this bar/nightclub was a little slow at first, but then picked up when it turned into a place to dance. DJ Nightshade? I think that was his name-o. Anyway, he kicked some major ass spinning beats and played some of the best hits. I highly recommend this place to anyone who is looking for great drinks, great atmosphere, and to dance. If anyone is looking to mix and mingle with someone and have a great time, this is definitely the bar to go to - SharkBar

I ordered 2 long island iced teas with a few other drinks. But, apparently they only use triple sec, coke, and sprite for a long island iced tea, this equates to a drink that tastes like youre chewing on an orange peel, an overpowering orange flavor. When we complained about the mixed drinks, the bartender shrugged it off and stated, they were pre-mixed.On a side note the music is a mixture of songs that everyone should know, and the employees jumping on stage to dance were having a lot of fun.

Went here for the first time for my friends birthday. The bartenders are awesome, the music was excellent, and its a fun place to hangout at. I definitely recommend this place if you are looking to get your groove on.

So Im just now posting a review 3 years after going here for my frist and last time. Ill start with why it took me 3 years to write this. So they like to do this thing where they take down peoples names and phone numbers at the front of the bar when they check youre ID. The reason for this, is not made very clear when writing it down. But weeks after youve done so. Theyll send you text that states somthing like this.Hi (Insert Name Here)! Its Kyle at Shark Bar.. Its been awhile since weve seen you! We would like to invite you in for a VIP party with great specials. Interested?Now that sound enticing right? Well turns out if you say Yes. Then theyll inform you that you can get half price drinks if you bring a certain amount of people to their bar with you. Then you all show up, they get all youre friends names and numbers. And do the same to them later. Even when you text back, call them, ect. And ask them yo remove you from their text list. YEARS later, youll STILL receive text messages.If that was not bad enough. The drinks EVEN at HALF price were still WAY too expensive. The music playing is awful, and the entire experience was the absolute WORST. Avoid this place like the plauge. Unless you like spending too much on drinks and harassed via text messages.

90 2000s music drinks are expensive but very similar with any bar in the pnl. The people age group is very mix. Fun place to start the night or go with a big group

I use to really like coming here for happy hours until theyve became rude and have raised their prices a lot! The same drink we use to get for $5 changed to $8 and tonight it was $13. Not consistent and tried to catch an attitude because I asked when did the price change again. I wont come back.

We reserved a booth for the night. The DJ/music was terrible. The music outside was so much better. The bouncer was rude. The waitress was great, though!

I ordered the same round of drinks 3 times from 3 different bartenders and got a different price each time. No happy hours were going on at the time. When I asked the last bartender why the prices were different each time she just walked off. Way overpriced.

Terrible crowd, terrible cover, and couldnt get a drink here as a female- the bartenders wouldnt look at us. We had to send our guys to the bar to get their attention.

Dont use a credit/debit card at this place... Especially at the counter towards the washrooms. I gave my card for service and the bartender denied taking it after going to the backroom to get my drink... A few minutes later someone was trying to buy stuff with it nearby.If you must party here, carry cash!

Ive been here on multiple occasions and every time it has been the worst bar experience Ive ever had at bar. If you are not a girl or gay good luck getting a drink. Dont waste your time or money go to any other bar in PNL.

Stopped by on 10/31 the only club I saw social distancing being practiced. They never allowed to to get packed like it used to. Great job still a great place to hang out and get loose

Heres my issue. Im sure no one at this bar will care, but Im sending it anyways. I came to this bar for my birthday, my twin brother joined me in this along with quite a few friends. At 11pm on the dot, your bar kicked my brother out for having a tank top on and having tattoos. Yet most of your male employees were shirtless and had tattoos, and your female employees wore bikinis and had tattoos. Where do you draw the line? This is absolutely ridiculous guys. Its a joke. And so hypocritical. It was his birthday! Not only that, but one of your employees were making crying gestures towards him as he wasaid escorted out. On his birthday. This place is fun if you like older music... so music we listened to as kids and music our parents listened to as well. usually a lot of older folks in there. other than that the drinks are overpriced (expected) and the atmosphere is fun.

Drinks were okay, but the REAL issue is that there is a total of 0 live sharks in this bar. I want to be able to have drinks and see real sharks, is that too much to ask in America?

Nice music,nice people,nice bartenders but this lady ruined everything,the way she was grabbing people to get them out of the bar was crazy!

First time at P&L. I knew what I was getting myself in to, but still terrible. A double vodka Red Bull was $15. Whatever. Girlfriend had to use the restroom; no toilet paper anywhere in the bathroom. Trash.

I love to dance and sometimes my friends and I will go to Shark Bar however more recently the service, cleanliness, and music choices have been average.

Had to pay cover and both the male and female bathrooms were out of order. Had to go to another bar for a bathroom, what a joke.

The playlist here was outrageous: Scotty Doesnt Know, Backstreet Boys, Shakira, Dr Dre, The Killers. The drinks are average.

Dance floor was really stuffed which can be a good and a bad thing. Needs entrance fee. Good music and themes change from time to time.

Staff is incredibly rude. Was pushed and elbowed several times by them. I own a business and would fire any employee half as unprofessional as them for service 1/5

The music is good but the service is bad. If you do not care about the service, the place would be OK. If you prefer a respectful service, I would not recommend you go especially if you have invited someone

I am not fond of dance clubs like this, be prepared for crappy drinks that are mosly ice in an environment where you cant move, with music no one would voluntarily listen to, so loud you cant hear anything.

Very fun nightclub bar in the center of power and light district downtown Kansas City Missouri which is world class.

It’s pretty lit most nights I’d recommend this place to anybody who needs to get out of they’re house and kill time 😌

My girlfriend was hit in the face by two guys after being grabbed while dancing when I stepped in to handle it we got kicked out and they laughed at her for getting hit this place sucks and the bouncers are 50 guys that let girls do whatever they want garbage place!

The drinks are somewhat expensive but was really good. Has a real nineties feel playing music such as Get Jiggy With It.
