Abstract Athletics Jiu-jitsu & Acrobatics

I visited here from out of town while in Huston. What an amazing gym and group of people. I hear this is their new facility and they spared no expense making this place awesome. The mats are high quality and one of the biggest mat sections I’ve seen. They also had acro and women’s only classes going on at the same time which is how big the place is. Great showers and huge change rooms plus weight lighting area and viewing benches. One of the best facilities I’ve been to while travelling the country. They also welcomed me with open arms. Highly recommend!

I can’t say enough how great Abstract is and beyond highly recommend! I’ve been going for over a year now and I’m constantly impressed with the improvements in the facilities, the coaches (who are all seriously amazing with great individual personalities) and the community as a whole. It’s hard to find a place where you will feel more comfortable, get a great workout and improve on yourself weekly! Getting my kids involved soon and will update on that as well. 100% recommend

After multiple friends told us how much they loved Abstract, we signed our daughter up for a mix of acro group classes and private lessons. She’s been attending for more than a year now and always has the best time. She would go every day if she could! Pete, Mat, and Zach are all extremely knowledgeable and encouraging coaches. They’ve helped my daughter achieve goal after goal. Highly recommend!

This is a great place to train Jiu Jitsu for men and women of all ages. Open Mats on Sunday have a great turn out with some great practitioners. If you want a good work out or training for next competition you need to check this place out.

I always give credit when credit is due & this place is it. My daughter has been in acro here for the past year & her skills wouldn’t b what they are if it wasn’t for coach Zach & the team! They have such a great way in talking & coaching the kids, we love this gym! Their new space is so big & roomy enough working out space for everyone, they even have a weights section for free for parents while we watch the kiddos in the class! This place is great & I think more ppl should kn about it & Join!

The coaches for both jiujitsu and tumbling are incredibly talented and great with kids. Our son has been taking classes for 6 months now and we’re so proud of his growth in both mental and physical strength.

Abstract Jiu jitsu is one of the best gyms I have ever trained at. I was visiting from out of state and was instantly welcomed by everyone in the gym. The coaches are all very knowledgeable. They offer a great class and very tough rolls. Anyone who is looking for an awesome place to train in the Houston area should definitely check this place out.

We are so happy with Abstract. Each week, we can see growth and improvement in my daughter’s skills. The coaches really provide specific feedback in a positive, professional manner and it has really helped her confidence soar. They do a great job of giving each student the personal attention and instruction needed. Awesome place!! Very happy!!

Great place to train and learn Jiujitsu! The coaches are amazing, very knowledgeable and spend a lot of their time setting their students up for success! We love Abstract! My daughter has tried other places and it didn’t seem to click for her. Coach Mat and Coach Pete have different coaching styles that compliment each other very well, giving her a well rounded experience.She looks forward to it every week and signs up for the bonus sessions any time they fit her schedule.

We love coming here every week for our 5 year old son. The coaches are excellent with the kids and manage a whole crew of them quite well. We find our younger kids also get a lot out of watching the classes from the sidelines!Update - I signed up for the adult classes and put my 4 year old in the 5:00 class as well. No regrets, we go whenever we have time. The community is excellent and the coaches are very technical.

This is a excellent gym! Very people friendly and open to all ages and genders. They do a great job at really building a curriculum focused on building their people! There arent many gyms around that put the amount of thought and effort into developing skills like this place does!

Great environment for all ages and skill levels. Coaches are very knowledgeable in their craft and provide a very welcoming atmosphere. Classes are perfect for a novice breaking into the world of BJJ or those who are looking for a challenge and begin competing at the local and even national level.

Abstract is a special kind of gym. The instructors are fantastic- they are thoughtful with their lessons, constantly work to improve, and pay attention to your needs as an individual student.But what stands out is something different. Abstract has such a welcoming and strong community- more so than any gym Ive ever been to. Great gym and amazing coaches. Would recommend this gym to anyone. I drove 30-45min a couple time a week for 2 years for these guys. Comfortable atmosphere and no pressure to do competitions.

This place most welcoming bjj for every one. A lot of quality bjj here. They focus on everyone even your skill is beginner. Not like every gym. Matt and Pete are very experience in the art and also teaching from young to old!

We love abstract! My girls have came such a long way in a short period of time. My oldest has always struggled with Acro tricks, Coach Pete and Coach Mat have helped her build the confidence and strength she needs to reach those goals! Forever grateful to them :) I highly recommend.

I have trained at few different schools over the last 10 years and this place is great! The owner Mat is a great instructor. He makes everything very simple to understand and has created a very welcoming environment. I would highly recommend this place to anyone that is interested.

My daughter, 9 years old, has been working with Mat and let me just say, in the last 2 months, there is a very obvious and noticeable change in her upper body strength. She is a very shy kid but Mat has a personality that can bring out the best in any child, even the shy kids. Her skill level has improved significantly and overall since she has been his student. Mat is very knowledgeable in body conditioning and acro. I would highly recommend a visit here!!

I have recently joined Abstract Jiu-Jitsu to learn self defense. I would recommend this school for any woman who wants to learn what to do if they were ever placed in a situation where self defense was needed. I feel comfortable working with the coaches, they make the school safe for women to practice. As of this post I’ve been attending classes for about 2 months and intend to keep going.

Mat and Peter are absolutely amazing with my kids. Both my girls go to their acrobatics and conditioning classes and I’ve seen a huge improvement in acrobatics, fitness, and confidence. We absolutely love them!

There is not a better place to learn about life...than Abstract jui jitsu. The whole family goes here. All of the coaches and students are great friends and mentors. The things we have gained here at Abstract since we started training make up for all we thought we lost during covid 2020.

Friendly and knowledgeable coaches. Very friendly to their drop ins and do not hide their secrets just because you are from another team. Go to an open mat or sign up if youre new to the sport.

Staff is friendly and welcoming. Classes are smooth and instructors are great at insuring everyone understands techniques and proper forms. Update: staff is still excellent!
