My husband and I had a wonderful evening last night. Our food and drinks were delicious. Shaun gave us great recommendations. Brandon, the host, was very personable. We are new to LA, and the whole restaurant welcomed us. The live jazz band The David Leech Quartet had an awesome vibe. Everything was perfect and enjoyable.
This grown and sexy spot is really the only place for people to go in LA that love, great music both live and DJ, a beautiful patio section and a cozy inside settings. Drinks are amazing, prices a pretty good for California, and the own PIP is always there to greet you with a smile and great energy. Food could be better....however, my go to spot when in Los Angeles 😋
Its the day before Valentines Day and I decided to take my boyfriend out to dinner when I knew it wouldnt be a headache. I saw this place and it had pretty good reviews and it was Jazz night. Oh yeah... right up my alley dinner and good music go well together and they didnt disappoint!! The band was great love them. I started with a drink Rum Punch it was so good 💪🏾and my boyfriend had a Heineken. We ordered the stuffed mushrooms with crab meat for starters and it was delicious. For dinner, I ⁶ordered the Oxtail and pasta, and talk about tender and juicy with the gravy... perfect! They give you these small little forks to get all the meat off the bones. My boyfriend ordered the Lambchop and Asparagus and he said they were good. Not too pricey my drink was 17 dollars the beer was around 7 I think. The waiters were on point. Great service. The experience was so much fun I want to go back on a Wednesday for R&B night. Oh if you like to eat outside they have a patio area as well with heating lamps. Give them a try if youre in the neighborhood. Warning Parking Sucks.
This is my first time visiting Pips on La Brea and it exceeded my expectations. I ordered grilled salmon and grilled zucchini from the starters menu and there was enough food to serve two people. You get great value for your money, and thats not even including the live jazz from 7:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m, Tuesday through Saturday night. I came on a Thursday night after real estate event just to check it out and Im very glad that I came. I cant wait to bring my son here so he can enjoy the Jazz and the salmon.
Amazing time!! I went there for my anniversary dinner and it was the perfect atmosphere. We saw the trio & it was lovely. Although the music is a bit loud inside, we sat on the patio which was the best atmosphere with nice lamps and perfect window seating to see the jazz! The service was fantastic: super fast and very personable!! I got the fish which was SO good and recommended by our server. The only small complaint was that the vegetables were a bit undercooked. Other than that, the food was delicious! I would definitely go back again and recommend this location for anyone in the area looking for live jazz spots in the area!!
Visited Pips for Sunday Brunch. Service was exceptional, food was absolutely delicious and atmosphere was fantastic. My first time at Pips and was pleasantly surprised at their efficiency and welcoming customer service. Wasnt sure what to expect but now that will be my future go-to brunch spot.
Good place for birthdays Im assuming since there were about 6 different large birthday parties in the tiny space. It was difficult to move around and was very loud.Food served buffet style which isnt my favorite when theres so many strangers so close to each other and yelling over the noise in front of the food trays.Very enjoyable saxophonist 👍One of the waitresses tried to give me alcohol multiple times after I showed her my ID saying Im not 21 yet. Strange.
Went for brunch and really enjoyed the vibe. The host was very welcoming, and the live music/DJ was great. The brunch is buffet style, but excellent! The chicken empanadas are tremendous (especially with the sauce). Salmon lasagna , fried chicken and Belgian waffles were highlights. They have nice salads, fresh fruit and omelettes as well. Bottomless mimosas and sangria are real and generous. The music stage is inside, but you can hear it outside as well. It’s close quarters inside, so unless you’re in a group, you’re likely to get to know your neighbours well (a good thing in our case). The place was crowded when we checked in at 12:15pm, so make reservations (and don’t be put off by the $10 reservation deposit…it’s part of your bill and you’ll understand why if you show up for brunch without a reservation). We used Uber to get there, but they seemed to have reasonable valet parking. Don’t know what it’s like for dinner, but we’d definitely try it when we’re in town again!DO IT!
Its one of the best jazz spots in LA. You never know who you may see in here! Ive seen several stars pop up to enjoy a set, and with the food and drinks they serve here, I dont blame them. Service is usually pretty good. Parking is valet for $20. Try the Cucumber Mule or if youre brave the Adios or Old Fashioned. Live music here is always enjoyable. Favorite dish is their pastas!! Salmon or Margherita Pizza is pretty tasty as well.
Stage seats. Amazing outdoor lounge and eating area. Very classy vibe.Music from a classic and talented group. Would have loved to have a singer with this ensemble. Excellent service from the server to the Door person greeting. Will definitely recommend and visit again!
Its a warm friendly environment for celebrating privately or connecting with others to enjoy some great LIVE entertainment, & delicious food. I enjoyed the rack of lamb and my hubby the salmon. Delicious. The wait staff was friendly and courteous. We love it there we have celebrated several milestone activities personally or with friends always to our satisfaction.
Great band playing jazz and blues. Friendly relaxed atmosphere. Good food and service. Reasonable prices. Can’t wait to go back!
I took my mom for Mother’s Day brunch and we were very disappointed. The mothers at the tables next to us weren’t happy with the food either. Bland food and weird choices for a brunch. The shrimp and grits were not good, shrimps were so small you could barely see them. Salmon Lasagna -10 The tiramisu was so soggy like it had been frozen and thawed out a few days before. Best thing was the drinks. I will come back but for drinks and music. I’ll eat somewhere else before I go. Prepare to pay $15 to park.
I brought a bus load of women from Bakersfield, California, for Sunday brunch Brandon. The manager was excellent, Brandon. The saxophones was excellent, the food the venue and the service was all excellent. We will be back, thank you everyone.
Small and intimate setting inside with outdoor seating and a cigar patio outside. The live music was great and the musicians are very talented. There is a $3 charge per person added to your bill for the entertainment. The food was amazing and flavorful. The chicken empanadas have sugar sprinkled on top for a touch of sweetness. The Riesling wine was nice and sweet too. Definitely a date night spot! Great staff and servers.
Starters were decent, the main courses were not so great. Our waiter sucked. Didnt check on us because he was doing too many things. We had to keep looking for him. Overall nice place to listen to live jazz and have drinks.
Our anniversary fell on a weekday so we wanted someplace casual, but special and Pips delivered. The jazz quartet, the Flow Band, was amazing. They played everything from Herbie Hancock to Muddy Waters Blues and a rousing rendition of the Low Rider. Empanadas and Creole Fettuccini with jumbo shrimp! There was even a veggie pizza for my hubby. Our only complaint was that the service was too fast and the tables too little to hold appetizers and entrees. If you have an appetite try to score one of the few tables for four.
Excellent Patio for Gatherings...I Loved The Buzz in the air & the Servicewas great. Watch out though,There is only VELET PARKING..Convenient, non the less.Food good too !!
We came to LA to get away for a few days. My husband and I searched for a black owned restaurant with a live band. We found Pips on La Brea. I thought, well eat and listen to se light jazz. It was so much more. The entertainment was great and interactive. I will definitely be back on my next visit!
My first time here and everything was excellent. Live jazz, I loved it. The food was supreme. The personnel were inviting and professional starting with curbside valet parking, they helped us take pictures and were very friendly. The staff on the inside took over from there, courteous and helpful. They go out of their way to make you feel special. The live music was top notch. This was a very memorable evening. Thank you Pips On Labrea!
This was our first time eating here and the food was delicious and had lots of options. The staff was friendly and fun. Even other customers were very nice and friendly and fun. The atmosphere was a great vibe. And the music was great.
Loved the atmosphere. The food was very good and the drinks are strong!!!
Loud smokey atmosphere! The place is open air restaurant. People were smoking cigars, in an area where they should have been non-smoking there were people eating. The bar was okay along with the drinks. The valet parking was super expensive $20.00 focus establishment is definitely not worth it. If you cant find street parking.
This place is basically a very cool jazz restaurant and the food is also very good. The business is black owned and the vibe at the location is really cool. Plenty of indoor and outdoor seating and safely distanced. Bring some cash, so you can tip the awesome performers and also call in or go online to make a reservation. This will help you to get a table on a busy night. Valet is $10 I believe. I highly recommend this place.
The Atmosphere is Exquisite, the Service Fabulous, and the quality of the food nice except for the shrimp and the salmon. The person in charge of the kitchen probably is not a picky eater as myself. The rice was mush(overcooked), the lamb had a sauce that rune the dish and spot were over salty. The garlic mash-potatos were a little better than school mash. The only dish worth ⅔ of the money was the Churrasco Steak. If you are going for the Music: I personally was spoiled by teachers who LOVE JAZZ. I dont know if they were not allowed freely to play Beautiful/good music here, because it definitely was not. You dont pay any coverage charge, so maybe we cant complain, but middle schoolers with Mediocre instruments can play better.I was Not Informed the two times I called for information that, one should get a reservation. They have been doing this for 14 plus years, one would think that they have it all together by now. If it a Jazz club, better music. If its a restaurant knowledge on how to cook these quality ingredients. Yes, the quality of the food shows.
I tried to contact the ownerer about being mistreated by the guy that greeted us.. but he gave no response... very unptofessional
On our visit to LA we spent Tuesday night at Pips on La Brea with Sam Hankins @banddaddy and The Flow Band. What a great atmosphere! If you’re looking to spend an evening with superb jazz musicians in a laid back atmosphere with great food—- what are you doing Tuesday night???
Took myself on a date for the first time and pips was the perfect place! All the staff was so amazing! The food was delicious! The empanadas are a MUST TRY! and the live musicians gave such a beautiful & soulful show! I seriously can’t wait to go back! ☺️☺️☺️☺️☺️🎉 Thanks Pips family!
Love Pips on La Brea and Madame D Wednesdays❣️ Always keeping real R&B Sangin alive and food is great❣️ I love the salmon stuffed artichoke with capers 😋
The brunch was $50 w/tip & tax per person. And, we received it for $35 because the food was cold and was not pleasant. The shrimp & grits had no flavor/seasoning. The cocktails were decent in strength. The reason even for a 2 star is that the ambiance was nice and the service. But, other than that I would not have been able to rate them with a star.
I FELL IN LOVE WITH PIPS THE 1ST UEAR WE CELEBRATED THE PASSING OUR BEAUTIFUL MOM AND THE VENUE HAS REMAINED A BEAUTIFUL OASIS COUPLED W/DELICIOUS ENTREES AND GREAT MUSIC🦋💜🦋
Always the best of times. Never failed me once. Live jazz excellent food good and delious drink I recommend this bar to everyone with a touch of class ...also cigar friendly he has it all with newly remodeled patio area with Elegance! Pip you win on this one!
Great place with good food and jazz music. Patio setting makes for really nice afternoon.
Pips food was great, my drink made to perfection, the music pure Jazzy, and most of all, the customer service stood out the most as superb! Definitely added to my list of favorite spots in Los Angeles to eat and chill!
It starts with the staff always, and the staff here are welcoming and have such positive vibes that it resonates with the customers. All good in the hood.
My S.O. And I went for his 40th birthday. Barbara Morrison was the singer and she did great. Sophia was our waitress and she was personable and made the night a memorable event. She knew the drink my S.O. wanted before he even asked for it. She gave us phenomenal service and we both said we would come here again.
Theres nothing more annoying than a restaurant charging an entertainment fee. On my bill I was charged this fee. Then when my check cleared at the bank they added more to my tip. A tip is not mandatory but suggested. I left what i was able to afford. Had they not charged me an entertainment fee, I could have left more for tip. For someone on a budget that was just rude. The place was cute and food was just ok. I wont return.
Food was excellent and entertainment was fantastic. My daughter wanted to have her birthday party at a restaurant that had live jazz and Pips did not disappoint.
There’s nothing not to like here. Loved the chill atmosphere and great music. The chimichurri steak was to die for and my friend loved her salmon. Great service staff too. Only regret is I forgot to check out the patio. Parking not super easy in that area- they do have valet for $20. I’ll be back.
We celebrated my friend’s birthday. The live music and band along with their food was delicious. We were seated on the patio, very cool and laid back vibe. I will definitely return. I ordered a glass of wine but my friends said the libations were excellent! 😍
I had dinner here on a Wednesday, and there was an amazing live band & singer. The food and drinks were great, but above that, the music was not so loud that you couldn’t have a conversation. Highly recommend!!!
My fiance and I visited this establishment after reading very positive things about the atmosphere and general dining experience. At the same time I also read reviews about the service and resonated with the negative reviews as its a small family owned restaurant. So I was fully aware what I was walking into before we sat for dinner. I made reservations for a table outside on the patio. When we got to the restaurant:-our table was not ready and we had to wait an extra 45 mins for a table.- we were pressured into ordering and eating in haste throughout our meal. My partner and I were celebrating, something I explicitly informed the restaurant of prior to dining.- as the level of service was not to a reasonable standard, the waiter coming over and standing over me whilst i paid, and feeling pressured throughout our meal, I left a small tip.I was automatically charged a 25% tip. I wanted to leave this review for other diners who are considering eating at this place. I did not sign for a 25% tip. I have my original receipt. I have not called my bank and reported, as I do not want to go down that route. The live band and dining experience is amazing but the service and manners of staff is questionable.I tried to leave a review via the restaurants booking app, however was not able to as it appears someone has already submitted a review on my behalf. (This is not the case)I really am disappointed as the vibe is fantastic. Please sort this out pips.
Had Mothers Day Brunch . Food was delicious. Music was on point.
What an amazing atmosphere! Wish I lived here so I could visit more often!!
My guest and I had a great time. Weve already made plans to return.
This place is a hidden gem! 💎 Reservations are required due to the limited space. Once you arrive you’ll want to valet (very reasonably priced) We arrived shortly after 7pm and the band was already jammin with smooth jazz! The atmosphere is sophisticated grown & sexy perfect for birthdays, anniversaries celebrations business meetings casual meet ups & dates! I didn’t see any children however its family friendly (and they have pizza 🍕) The food is delicious awesome portion sizes plenty of drinks🥂 & menu variety is perfect you must try the signature fettuccine🍝 There’s an outside dining patio area with heat lamps both inside and out. And I saved the best for last the incredible staff they accommodated my party of 12 guests comfortably. Although this place is a lot smaller than expected I still rated it 5 stars for overall experience & enjoyment 🥳Shout out to the entire team for making my birthday an extra special experience (even turning off the music allowing my cousin to sing me happy birthday opera style!!!) talk about highlight of the night! 🥰✨YOU GUYS ROCK THANK YOU🫶🏾
I was taken for my 65th birthday. The atmosphere was very comfortable with the live smooth jazz entertainment during the dining experience. The food was absolutely exquisite!!! The service and servers was friendly and very pleasant. I highly recommend this dining experience to EVERYONE!
Great food, great atmosphere, great entertainment and great service, cant ask for any more. Appreciated that the food came hot and promptly without being left to sit. Music was great! One of few LA restaurants that does it right and doesnt leave you feeling ripped off.
Great atmosphere and good jazz. I would definitely revisit this cozy venue.
I loved it here so much! I can’t wait to be here all the time.
Really enjoyed visiting Pips on a spring break from the bay area. The food was tasty and the music was good.
Visited here from Atlanta. This place is a total vibe. The food was great .The live jazz band was incredible. And the service was top notch. Lupe supplied stellar service. We will be back!
Went there with my dude and family for my birthday 🎂 and the service was awesome and the food was delicious!...the live jazz band was amazing 👏 and big thanks to the singer who sang happy birthday to me!...I had a wonderful time...much thanks to the host Brandon!...
I go on Sundays. Its usually crowded and nowhere to sit. It takes real effort to make your way to the bar to buy a drink. I wasnt ever able to order food, and then the kitchen shut too early. They have a $$ cover charge after 6p.
Pips is a nice experience to dine with live music. The band really adds to the atmosphere. The food and drinks are worthy of a return visit. If there are any improvements, it would simply be around the service. More waiters are needed during peak times on the weekends.
Great Dave Peterson jazz on Tuesdays and always a fun-loving crowd. High class without being stuffy or phony sophisticated. Guest singers from the audience add a surprise of great talent and a change of pace. Altogether a delightful night out.
Went last Saturday Night Music Great; but the food was uneatable the Lamb was ordered rare came well done;Salmon was dry and cooked well done as well. Drinks are good and the service is great. One thing that is really bothers me is a Service Charge of 42.66 I emailed and never heard back. We eat out all over from DownTown LA, Beverly Hills to San Monica We have never had a Service Charge; can some explain
Wonderful music and service ! The only thing I slightly disliked was the strong smell of food both inside and outside. However, it evaporated as the night progressed and music turned more melodic . Loved the band !
Ive been to Pips on three occasions now. Its honestly one of the last places in LA that still gives you a bang for your buck.🎶The live music is first and foremost the thing that sets Pips apart. On any given night you can hear the greats alongside the up-and-comers. NOTE: the guests who come to Pips take their music seriously. If you have a large group, and want to talk during dinner, I recommend sitting on the patio outside, to avoid a stern reprimand.💡On that note, the patio is definitely the most beautiful place to sit. You will dine beneath twinkling lights, and they also have outdoor heat lamps, on the nights is brisk. Call ahead to reserve the upper patio for the best view ;)🍷 As I mentioned, Pips one of the last remaining places in LA that won’t gauge you on drinks. They have a decent wine selection, with several under $10/glass and heavy pours! (I am a bit of a klutz and spilled my glass, and they even replaced it for free without my even asking.)🍤 As for food, the prices are fair, and while its mostly standard dishes, they wont be over-charging you for a meal. Some seafood, some pasta, a mix of everything, as I recall.✋ The service is very good while you are eating, and they will allow you to stay and listen to the music after your table is done. On one occasion, it took 20mim to get our check, so if youre in a hurry, be assertive! All in all, Pips is absolutely worth going to!!
My husband and I visited last week on a Saturday to enjoy some food and live music, unfortunately we didnt get to experience any food and little music.I set a reservation online for 8:00, but thought it was at 8:30. I called the restaurant around 7:50pm and let them know my mistake. The hostess said we could still be seated since we were arriving around 8:20.We get there and the hostess seats us out on the patio. We sit for about 30 minutes, watching other waiters serve everyone around us. There was literally a table right next to us that was seated after we were that got their drinks and apps, and we werent even offered water. We had to ask a waiter (a hispanic man in a white and green checkered shirt, who kept looking and walking around us, obviously looking and seeing us there not being waited on) - for water. He brought the water and that was it.We waited another 15 minutes (at this point its been 45 minutes) and not a single waiter that walked around us came to our table to wait on us. My husband finally asked a gentleman serving a nearby table if we could have a waiter, he left and asked another waiter..that waiter just shook his head no and the waiter we asked never came back to say anything to us.Obviously, by this time, it was time to go. We were kind enough to wait that long - just to see if someone would serve us! I let the hostess know, she was lovely and quite apologetic -- even gave us a free appetizer as we were leaving. (the chicken empanadas, which were great actually!). The sad part is, NONE of the wait staff thought to let the hostess know that our table was not covered in their area. Instead, they all just walked around us -- seeing us there but not asking us to move or even alerting someone that we should be moved to another area so we could actually be served. It just seemed so disrespectful that they would all see us there and not serve us. Terrible wait staff.Luckily we left without having to patronize this business. Its sad, Ive been to this location for happy hour before the pandemic, and I dont remember the service being this terrible. We never got to order any food or drinks, but the menu is pretty limited and not many options for plant based folks or vegetarians or non dairy eaters just fyi. Also -- we saw on the menu that there is a surcharge for live entertainment. $3 / person per table. Ive been to many 5 star establishments (which this one is not by any means) and never have seen a restaurant charging patrons additional for having live music. Like why are we paying for this? The least they could do is make patrons aware BEFORE they come (maybe when they set their reservation). Just seems very tacky to charge for subpar live jazz (trust me it wasnt the best). All in all - we probably wont be back. The service was pretty terrible, completely ignored by the waitstaff -- however the hostess was apologetic on behalf of them. Management should train them in customer service a little more. Save yall money and check out a place thatll treat you a little better.
We had a reservation and waited 30 minutes for a table. The lights were so bright that it killed any semblance of ambiance. And the roasted potatoes and steamed veggies were not seasoned at all and needed to be cooked longer. However the music was great.
Great live music, and food that was unexpectedly refined - loved the artichoke appetizer. The bar also has a variety of really nice “mule” drinks, and I loved my “dark and breezy” - will definitely be coming back to enjoy this neighborhood spot.
OMG what a pleasant experience. Great music, food and ambiance
For great music, chill vibe and good food this is the spot. Weve been here a couple times and have enjoyed our experience each time. I had the signature dish; Creole Fettuccine. It did not disappoint.
Recently went for a Jazz Brunch on Sunday and it was AWESOME!!! The staff and the atmosphere were GREAT! The food was the best and there wasnt any rush, lines, or bad vibes; just fun, fantastic food, and smooth jazz. I did make reservations @11am to be sure that my party of 7 would have a seat. However, the crowd didnt start flowing in until about 1pm and still there was enough room and food. Before we were seated, the owner offered us beverages and showed hospitality. Overall, it was wonderful! We had a REALLY good time. I would definitely go again and refer this place to friends.
Madame D sung her heart out Wednesday night from 7pm to 10. Amazing. She Is there every Wednesday night with her fabulous live band bring the r&b hits like never before. This is one of the jewels of Los Angeles and with her singing the jewel has a crown. Come out and enjoy a fabulous night of great food ,cocktails and amazing music.
Really enjoyed Pips, went there for my friends 50th bday dinner and the staff were friendly and accommodating to our needs. Great food and live jazz music, highly recommend checking it out.
Today was me and my mother first time visiting Pips. Soon as we walked in Customer Service A1, Atmosphere A1,Clean Restaurant A1, Food A1, Overall Service A1 And the Saxophone player A1 We Had a Great time. I would refer anyone to this restaurant ❤️
My first time to Pips while I am in LA on business. Food was delicious however my server Max was horrible. He took my order and never once asked if everything was okay. I had to send the water/bread guy to ask him for my check. He didnt even ask if I wanted another glass of wine. When he gave me my check he never asked if I enjoyed my meal. Very poor customer service!!!
I arrived from Florida and Pips was our first dinner reservation for my birthday celebration week. It was amazing‼️‼️. The outdoor patio ambiance is grown and sexy, food amazing and very attentive service. Make your reservation‼️‼️‼️
Who wouldve thought. Lived in LA for over 25 years. Awesome atmosphere. Live jazz, amazing drinks in the outside patio. You can smoke your cigar on the top of the patio.
While attending a birthday celebration, I enjoyed delicious food (wings & empanadas) & a tasty drink (a bit overpriced). In spite of their need for more staff, Ive been here before & would possibly visit again.
I love Pips! Ive been there numerous times and have never been disappointed. The service, food, entertainment and drinks are great!Looking forward to returning again soon.My only wish is that they would bring back the Latin Jazz night.
The food was good, I love the ambiance but a little over priced for me for brunch. I would wait and go for the lounge later in the day.
I always visit when Im in town my only issue is the bartender outside is not very personable or friendly. Drinks arent that good. Adult atmosphere great D.J., food is pretty good only sell appetizers, salads and pizza on Sunday which is a little backwards in my opinion. Sunday should most definitely be dinner food. Outside of those few things I would recommend.
Cannot say enough good about this place. Everything was A1 from the beginning starting from the valet, to the security, to the wait staff and even the bussers everyone was friendly and quick with service. We went for Fathers Day and unfortunately there wasnt a live band but the DJ was amazing. They dont do entrees on Sundays but it wasnt needed as the pizzas and starters were delicious. The drinks were also great and they werent stingy with the pours. Recommend 100% and we will be back my dad had an amazing day thanks to Pips!
Terrible on last Sunday night. They will never get my $20 again. I should have listened to the girl that came out prior to going in. The girl bartender failed on making a margarita, I had to walk her thru. Too much cigar smoke, nit enough ventilation. Pips ranked as my worst night experience.
My mom and I loved the live music! We went on a Tuesday. Everyone was friendly and it was a chill, fun atmosphere. The food was great as well!
We went to Pips last night, 3/17/22. It was fabulous! They had a jazz band, the David Patterson Trio, who regularly appears there in Thursday night. They were fantastic. They played a good selection of R&B songs with smooth vocals by drummer, Stevo Theard. The club is just what you want from a jazz supper club. It is intimate, the sound system is good and they have a nice outside patio area as well. The crowd was mellow and truly represented the grown and sexy. The food is good with reasonable prices. Not cheap but not expensive. They have a full bar and the drinks were priced at about standard prices for bars. The service was excellent. We had the pleasure of meeting the beautiful Sophia who was a Jill of all Trades! She was hostess, she took our orders and was handling bartender duties as well. On my way out, I let her know she is a beast!
We love Pips. Fabulous live music, little or no cover and a welcoming vibe. So great to have so much fun with a truly diverse group of customers. Singer on Wednesday nights is the best!
Went to Pips for a friend birthday. Had a large party. Our waitress/barista Tara was amazing. All the orders came out correctly and the drinks were phenomenal. The food and live Jazz was amazing as well. Would recommend for a quick bite to a quaint date or even a large gathering. Either way it’s a win win 🏆
Very classy place with a great atmosphere. The live band was awesome and I would definitely return again for the second round. The food prices were reasonable and the food was great tasting as well. The alcoholic beverages werent watered down, very well made left the bartender a nice tip.
Wanted to give them 5 stars, but just couldn’t because the whole time I was there it just seemed like no one cared about customers.I understand that the employees want to go home early, but an hour before closing time is too early to start rushing people out. Yuk!
I went for a friends birthday. We had a blast. The music, food, and ATMOSPHERE were fabulous!!
Finally came to this spot after so many recommendations. Great food and vibe on a Thursday night! Cigars allowed. Cool patio (might need bug spray)! Food a bit pricey, but worth the experience. Will be back!
Its been a while since Ive been here. But now I remember why Id like this place so much.Good music, great atmosphere, everybody just having a good time. Vibing definitely would come back here again.
Such a great spot, the staff are friendly and it’s a great vibe, great value for the jazz brunch
Love this place! Went there for a little get together for a friends birthday and she got to sing with the great Barbara Morrison! The food is okay but the ambience is fantastic! If you love jazz and blues, this is the place to go for it! Note: they charge an entertainment fee and 18% gratuity is included in check. Not sure if the fee was for general entertainment or because we brought our own birthday cake and asked for plates. All in all, they are very accommodating and I had a great time!
The restaurants ambiance is really very cool this indoor outdoor area had two orders the crab cakes in the empanadas they were fair to middlin nothing really outstanding and I had heard the empanadas were really special I did not find that to be true for me anyway are entree with the Bolognese and it was very mediocre in fact like no Bolognese Id ever tasted before it was of its own category and Ive had some very fine Bolognese
Great atmosphere and good music. I love the jazz instrumental on Thursday nights. The chef is one of the best in Los Angeles. Excellent food and drink choices. The ladies that service you are super nice and very professional.
The experience inside the Club was awesome but the Valet Service was totally useless in assisting with a ride back to our hotel. They did not understand or were too ignorant or stupid or just didnt give a flip to try to assist in helping us acquire a ride. We were visiting LA for the very first time and did not know the lay of the land. They could have garnered a huge tip with an ounce of assistance. They were too busy eating and yucking it up with each other.
The most amazing place I have found in LA in years. The ambiance quaint and original. The owner charming and hands on. The patrons friendly and welcoming. The drinks reasonably priced. The staff accommodating. The cheese cake to die for. Even the bathroom tile was beautiful. I thoroughly enjoyed myself to the fullest. A++++ ,10/10 ,5 stars. Can not encourage you enough to check this jazz club out. Thanks guys for a truly amazing night.
3.5 stars.I think its Just about does the job. Like, its just right, u know. The ambiance is very nice. Everyone seems to just be destressing on a friday night. Everyone seems to just be unwinding and you dont see that often anymore at just any place. The vibe was nice. You got blues playing in the background and all on Friday nights.Food: The wings and pizza we had were very delicious. Not the absolute best Ive had but not the worst either. Again, it was just right. Pizza and wings with water cups was about $41. Ill leave it to you to decide if thats good or not.Parking: There is street parking on the residential areas (about 5 min walk) or sometimes near target(about a 2 minute walk). Other than that, you have to pay $12 or $13(cant remember) for valet. I hate to be THAT guy. But, $13 for this nice place is a lil too much. $12 is what I pay at a vineyard or at Malibu fancy restaurants.Staff: Everyone is friendly, attemptive to what is going on around them. Anybody would be glad to help you out.Would I return? Yes I would but its not like a place where Im itching and so eager to return to tomorrow or something like that.Defintely, defintely give them a shot and tag/follow us on insta/tiktok @thehungrynomadz
Very nice place. My daughters boyfriend found us this place and read the reviews as a great place to bring me, from Sacramento, and his mother. The owner came out and introduced himself-says a lot about his place. Great jazz music! Food was good, food choices varied but loved the bread pudding!
My first time. Great ambience, live band and wonderful staff. I had a margsrita pizza which was great. Lots of salmon entries on the menu and Im not a fish person. Id definitely go back tho
This was my first time at Pips an l loved it! The atmosphere was hyped! The crowd was friendly, the live entertainment was the Bomb!!! The food was excellent. I would recommend this place to everyone its live! I love the fact that its Black Owned an l a big supporter of Black own businesses. Please check this place out an the drinks are awsome!😊
I visited Pips to attend a b-day celebration 🎉. I had no idea there was live jazz there also. I honestly enjoyed everything. The service wad was incredibly attentive, the food was delicious and the musicians presented some fine jazz standards as well as original pieces. Its an intimate and warm atmosphere, just perfect for small party or simply two. The drinks were well prepared also. Simply put, Im going back!
The lamb dish was amazing, and the ambiance was warm for our group of four. The owner is just as warm and accommodating to all patrons. The only drawback was there is no military discount on meals. Most of us disabled Veterans accept the discount and pass it to our waiter/waitress, as an addition to thier tip anyway. Ill still return with our party, just wish that would be implemented in policy moving forward.
We visited Pips on LeBrea for the first time and was blown away by the cool ambiance and great food! The live music for the night was David Leech Quartet and they were awesome. This will definitely be our hang out spot! They even have a outside bar and deck for smoking cigars while listening to good jazz music. I highly recommend this spot. We are willing to drive from Santa Clarita just to hang out there on a regular.
Was so disappointed after telling so many people about the Sunday brunch, and when we finally organized something with friends, I discovered they had discontinued the Sunday brunch? I dont know if theyve started again. Such an amazing atmosphere and a real shame they cant keep the consistency.
Myself and little sister were visiting LA. I had found this place with wanting to try out a Jazz spot. This place was so dope, we truly enjoyed ourselves. The vibe was fun but chill laid back. The food was so delicious.. I highly recommend this spot to anyone visiting and even if you live in the LA area.
Nice cozy place, love the music, the food was okay. The service could be better. Got the wrong order and our waitress (I guess the only one) did not bother to come and apologize or make the order better. Otherwise I did like it, I will come back.
I Enjoyed being there with My Sister n Cousin Celebrating His Birthday. He from Houston Texas. Thank you. We will back there again. The food n drink was very good
Didnt like the menu, the place doesnt have bread of any kind or coffee. Two must have staples for any restaurant. The pizza was only tortilla thin crust and soggy. They only had messy sticky finger foods. The menu was pathetic. The music was really not good either. It was generic sleepytime muzac style. Staff was great! They were friendly, bubbly, attentive and really tried to be accomadating. Over all it was really a disappointment though. Prices were fair.
Its small and cozy. Wide variety of foods for everyone. The live music was not too loud and the saxophonist was on point. The outdoor seating was lovely and shaded. Indoor seating is also nice because the doors leading to outside are open so the music flows in. Service was pleasant. Will definitely be back. Valet parking is $8 and my car was parked directly in front of the restarant so maybe park elsewhere and walk over.
Fish was not fresh, very industrial.Service was excellent!!!
Pips did an outstanding job making my friends birthday special. Our reservations were confirmed and I had numerous questions which they replied in a timely manner. I was extremely pleased and impressed with the care and thoughtful gestures. Our service was exceptional and food was delicious!! Thank you Pips for having us. We will be seeing you again very soon!!
Had my Birthday gathering at Pips! On May 28th My Family Friends and I had a Great time! The Establishment, Food, Band! And my Sever Arielle was Superb!!👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾 Ill definitely take that 1hrs and 35min drive to come back to Enjoy myself. 🙌🏾🙌🏾🙌🏾🙌🏾👌🏾👍🏾
Food was great! Music was ok. (The Drummer was🔥 though) Service was excellent. Ill definitely be back.
Intimate date night for the grown and sexy. The atmosphere and live music create senergy like no other. Come early and RSVP if you want a table because space is limited. Thier drink selection is top notch
I have been there for dinner and for the brunch for my sisters birthday. Had a great time each time! the food was great the entertainment was awesome..the talented Jeff Robinson was performing. The mimosa and Sangrias..were so good..the variety of food. My sister was so pleased . she got a birthday serenade!! The service is is excellent. I will be going there for my birthday.... A place for grown folks..luv it!
Good location. Tasty menu. Nice decor. Friendly waiters. Long walk to restrooms. Music entertains. Slightly pricey, but they have to pay the help. Pleasant.
I enjoyed the cool and relaxed vibe. The food was delicious and the drinks were on point. If you’re visiting LA check it out!
I had such an enjoyable evening at Pips. The Creole fettuccine was delicious along with the flavorful House empanada. Really had a good time with the Go with the Flow Band, quite knowledgeable and entertaining.
Good food, entertainment and service, but very little concern about non-smokers. Gigar smokers are allowed to run customers off. Got the worse headache and burning eyes from strong cigar smoke filtering into main area. I wouldnt recommend to others who dont smoke.
Went to pip for the first time seeing it was cigar night and the nba finals were showing. Arrived at opening to get a good seat. Noticed it was valet parking but I had a handicapped person with me so we parked in the designated handicap space at which time the attendant informed us that we still had to pay the $13. I will be looking into that later. Went in and Ordered the buffalo cauliflower, calamari and a Caesar salad. I received 5 florets for $16 smh the calamari was good and my salad was good. Afterwards the game started and it was now time to enjoy my cigar during the game. After the game went off the female waiter approached my group and asked us to move to another location because they had new guest. This the first in all the years of dining out I was asked to move for other guess. I guess I could have glossed over the ordeal if the waitress didn’t have such a bad disposition when asking.
I was at Pips on la Brea last Wednesday and saw one of the best Singers in the world her name is Maddam Dee. Maddam Dee will remind you of days past and bring you right into the future with her beautiful song choices. Be prepared to hear something Magical . She is performing every Wednesday from 7PM to 10 PM .The food is amazing they serve everything from Pizza to Gourmet meals. The Valet parking is convenient and the service is impeccable.if you are celebrating your birth month or any other occasion, this is the place to be!!!Victoria
Despite the fact of not having a reservation they accommodated us for an adult beverage. It was before the festivities and the band but the atmosphere was pleasant. Noticed a lot of small repairs that are needed but as a Director of Facilities these things tend to leap out at me.
Food is to die for. We had the crab stuffed mushrooms, shrimp pesto pizza and empanadas. The whiskey sours we ordered were top notch. We HIGHLY RECCOMEND Pips. This place is reservation only if you want to eat, and it gets full on friday night.
Great hang! Wish the music lasted longer.
Took my parents here to celebrate my dads bday. My dad loves jazz so I figured it would be a good spot. He had a great time and my mom got litty off two strawberry margaritas. It was a success! Will definitely go back.
Ok place and music was great, but ownership sucks. We had something fall from a tree or the parking structure onto our table on the patio. One of our guests was cut by glass, food was ruined and drinks (including a botte of champagne) was all ruined due to glass shards going ever. The owner did not come over to check the wellbeing of anyone until we made a big deal out of it. He was arrogant and dismissive not to mention expected payment for the ruined food and drinks. Ok place, but very poor ownership and management. Id never go back.
Atmosphere. Amazing cuisine. Stephen the Bartender and Chef extraordinaire. The outside patio is amazing and brings in patrons from all walks of life with a common love for jazz, a friendly crowd and attentive staff. Valet parking is available. Come meet the owner. His warm smile will make you a regular.
The hospitality, service, food and the music was all excellent. We were so comfortable there that we didnt want to leave. Cant wait to go back again.
Enjoyed a dinner here. Food is nothing to go crazy about especially for the price. If you sit inside the music can get really loud and if you sit outside you can’t hear it very well. Wouldn’t rush to go back but then again jazz clubs are few to choose from.
INCREDIBLE 🎉💯🥳👑🎊Eric the manager is Soo Awesome!! My Birthday Celebration was Soo Beautiful! I will be back to reserve the same spot really Soon! Thanks Pips for making my 60th Birthday Celebration Experience a Hit!!
It was a nice atmosphere the drinks were good and strong a bit high, and the dj had it lit me and my peoples had a great time
Beautiful atmosphere the music was amazing.
Thoroughly enjoyed our experience for Sunday Brunch! Spotlight on the service, led by our server Ariel. She was attentive, personable, helpful, and knowledgeable. Suggestions were on point, service was outstanding. The meals were all tasty and filling. Perfect Sunday Afternoon!
It was expensive like a mother, but it was really good service. They charge an entertainment fee and 20% tip. That I did not like.
Great FOOD and strong drinks. I ordered the stuffed artichoke with spinach and a grey goose martini. They had a three man jazz band it was nice. Not too loud, we were all able to carry on a conversation.
Traveled all the way from Oakland and was not disappointed. The food was O-MAZING! I had the salmon lasagna, it was deeelish!
The night we went here there was an amazing live band and the food and drinks were delicious. Fireplace inside and fire pits outside created great ambiance
The food was good. The drinks were definitely fire!!! It was a good vibe. I definitely enjoyed myself. I will be back.
The entrance was full of trash, they should sweep and ensure the front is presentable and clean. The food was ok however, sitting outside among the flies and crawling critters was a hassle. We had to swat at flies to keep them off of our food and it was not the best outdoor experience for us ESPECIALLY since it was our first time. The only PLUS was that the service was excellent.
Pips on La Brea what a gem, great place to have drinks, dinner and live music without breaking the bank. The staff is very attentive and personable. I ordered the fresh salmon lasagna with alfredo sauce. it was cook to perfection delicious. I gave it 5 stars.
This place was awesome. I had a wonderful time. It was packed to capacity with a lot of beautiful people. Ilk definitely be back on Sundays.
Sunday brunch is pretty good. Saturday night dinner was ok. Stuffed mushrooms with crab and shrimp kabob appetizers were not as expected. Drinks were watered down. Live entertainment was good. Overall opinion: restaurant is just ok. The prices are too high for the food and area.
Love Pips on LaBrea! Especially Tuesday nights where the jazz band that played behind Barbara Morrison still holds it down. Theyve also improved their menu!
My friend took me there to celebrate my birthday. I had a good time, and the food was delicious.
Had an amazing time- appetizers loved both, calimari (perfect, light, crispy) & the buffalo cauliflower was delicious and Im not vegan! Live jazz by the Amazing Barbara Morrison in an intimate face to face venue. Cool & jazzy vibes and people.
Come for the music and stay for the food! Salmon Croquettes, Veggie Pizza, Calamari....it. was.so.good!!!! I will definitely be back to try the salmon lasagna 😋
Had a great time last night (Friday, 2-1-2019.)Made reservations. Pips was packed and a happy ,lively crowd! Felt good! Comfortable! Staff ,helpful. Mia, Lead Greeter , very accommodating. A problem solver. The owners, Another problem solver. Rating A. One draw back. As I stated ,I made reservations for 2 on the voice mail. Upon arrival, no reservations! Hint: Call after 5 PM to make reservations. Additionally, go on line to make reservation!! Entertainment: A+. Food and Entertainment make Pips a go to place ,a destination in Los Angeles. Go!! Why; Don Owens said it is a GO!!!!
Celebrating 🍾 my cousins birthday only one person during everything. He made us the wrong drinks horrible. Im so surprised Pips is always on point. Derrick what happen? Oh yeah brunch was horrible way before... this was the go to spot in the community.
Came by on a night when Randall Willis was playing. Loved his sax playing, liked the calamari. We were here for the jazz. Also - Enjoyed the tiramisu.
I stopped in after a night at the LACMA because I was looking for some more jazz and boy I found it! They had an incredible 3-piece jazz group that was playing all kinds of jams and even took requests at one point. The lead vocalist was especially good. We had a moderately priced bottle of wine and lovely evening.
OMG!!!!! More than expected. Great atmosphere, food and service. We’ll definitely be back. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
We had an amazing time the staff was excellent the food was delicious definitely will be back to celebrate our ladies night out
Entertainment was, I guess entertaining. Small and intimate atmosphere. Called prior to going inquiring about non-alcoholic beer, which they stated they had and went as soon as they open and they were out. Kinda pricey, but overall I can see myself going again
Had a delicious dinner here tonight. (I had the pesto with chicken added and my companion had the BBQ chicken pizza). The cocktails were delicious and my waiter recommended a wine that was spot on. We heard a phenomenal band and vocalist. (They are regulars on Wednesdays apparently) All around, the evening couldnt have been better! So glad we found Pips on La Brea
Entertainment was good but so loud you cant really carry a conversation. The food is overpriced for what it is and the shrimp pesto pizza we ordered had a bitter aftertaste almost like an expired bitter taste, it was bad. The bill also includes a 10% entertainment fee additional to the tip fee, so its an expensive date.
A great place to celebrate your birthday. And party.. my friend Barbara MORRISON is always Entertaining us.. so can sang the blues.. and dance.. the food is so. Dang yummy....yummy. the prices are always right.. i am a big fan of pips on Labrea.. they have place to park your cars.. 2. Yes i will be back. To celebrate my birthday 2 23 20 20
The entertainment was spot on. The Barbara Morrison Band did her proud with their guests singers...I personally acted up a little, but it was all in the spirit of fun. Youll have find my videos on IG..
They tried to get out of honoring our Groupon credits. We had two about to expire. They called to confirm my reservation about 1/2 hour ahead which was odd. I told them we needed to bring one more at full price and they said no way, we cant fit one more. I asked for the manager and they relented but this trick not OK. The music was one sax player with recorded backup. They ran out of ribs early, which was the only good dish.
Now I have been to this place on several occasions during the evening.. to enjoy an intimate concert on the inside of the venue. I had a great time considering how small the place is. But I decided to take my mother there for Mothers Day 5/18 because they had a live Jazz Bunch and it was a decent price and it was on their patio where I thought it would be a beautiful day. It was overcast and gloomy but that didnt bother us as much because they had heat lamps..but walking out on the patio and to just see wooden tables with leaves on them.. I mean its Mothers Day can you go buy some colorful table cloths a vase and one flower or something from the dollar store just to make it look like it was a special day. It was a bummer. I mean people just dont take pride in their establishments and truly dont appreciate the patronage. I mean your bringng your mother to A Mothers Day brunch make it look special..i could have went anywhere else in the city. Now..I will say that I appreciate the variety of food but its so tiny in that area that youre bumping elbows with each other. You cant even enjoy your meal. Im sitting on the edge near The Omelette station getting bumped in the head by grandmothers with purses and stuff. I know its a tight space but you dont have to have so many tables there and you dont have to try to fit everyone in it...it just wasnt comfortable. Lastly my reservation was at 11am which was the time the Jazz was supposed to start. I guess the guy decided to come when he wanted to..it was almost noon when he began playing his saxophone.. so we ended up leaving after 50 minutes..each of us only having one plate of food.. foregoing the unlimited mimosa (which I love). The host even said, Oh your leaving? and I said yes she didnt even care to know why.
The service was great. We sat outside and ordered pizza it was a bit pricey and the food was cold before we finished. Lovely place but it needs more choices for Vegan and the pizza needs hot plates.
I havent been here in a long time and I dont think I will be back. When we walked in no one greeted us which is still an important part of any business that should not be overlooked. The service although friendly was slow, it took 5 mins before someone seated us and another 10 mins before someone came over to greet our table. I had the salmon lasagna which was just ok and it was cold in the middle. My friend had the spicy cajun spaghetti which was not spicy at all. The drinks are watery and overpriced. We actually left and went down the street to get better drinks. I love supporting our local businesses but this place leaves a lot to be desired.
First time there last night and I loved it! Family, food, drinks, people and a live band w/Barbara Morrison was all so good!! Total 5star experience. Looking forward to returning!
Wonderful brunch. Chef should be on site all day. Good service crew. Minor concerns, but that comes with eating outdoors. The Jazz man was superb, enjoyed him immensely.
