Highly recommend this club to anyone who is open minded, looking for the best late night club & wants to dance the last few hours of the weekend nights away. I was introduced to this club by a friend and brought one of my friends here after they left Minneapolis and she loved the atmosphere. Such a fun and unique experience! BRING positive vibes, cash money, and as soon as you’re inside just put your phone away. ✨
Older lady working was rude, we came right at open and I ordered a drink and told her to keep the change, she ignored me and walked off, no thank you or even a smile or glance.. Not sure of what the price was but I’m thinking it was more than likely it was more of a 50% tip. Not to mention we were the second people to order drinks and it was slow/dead for like 30 minutes so she wasn’t busy. Every other staff I’ve interacted with that night was 10000/10 but the older person working there needs to work on her customer service skills a lot more, or find another job if u can’t give good service within 2 minutes into ur shift.
Dark & BumpinIf you are a creature of the night, the black sheep of the family, or just someone who loves to dance, this is the place for you. It is the place to go if you have a favorite shade of black, like to be naughty, or meet absolutely wonderful people. There is always a cover to get in, and the bars are cash only for drinks that sometimes are a little on the pricey side, but personally, the countless times Im there, its less to drink, and more for the numerous events they host throughout the year. If you enjoy brooding dance music, burlesque, stunt performances, costumes, and more, you will find it here! I have not visited their recently opened second floor, but I am looking forward to experiencing it next time Im down in the cities!
As an alt queer person I am sad with the recent changes to Zero. This used to be a safe space for the queer, kink, and alt communities. In the past I not once have ever felt the need to cover my drink or be self-conscious about my body. But now… I absolutely have to cover my drink and watch my back. I’ve had straight men harass me and inappropriately touch me and others in this bar. I’ve been body-shamed by this sudden influence of skinny white girls who give off mean girl bully and influencer vibes (and who are adamant they’re “not *slurs*” in a bar known for being a queer space). The performers don’t mingle with the crowd anymore and stay hidden all night. There’s no more diversity in the performers either and I’m getting very strong cliquey vibes from these new performers.Overall I’m extremely disappointed at how this club is being managed now. Ground Zero is no longer a safe space and I strongly advise any queer, kink, and alt community members to enter this club with extreme caution.
I used to love coming here. Great atmosphere and fun times. But my last visit left a very bad impression. One of the lady bar tenders with dark hair on the first floor was very rude to me. I had been waiting in line for a drink and she was serving everyone else so I was talking to some friends while she finished up, when she came back to the bar I moved back to order a drink and she very rudely told me that I just got to the bar so she wasnt going to take my order when I had been standing there for about 15 mins already and proceeded to help everyone else besides me even others that got to the bar after me. Worst service Ive ever received in an establishment, and I am a server myself, and I was very taken aback by how I was treated here. I wont be coming back, and its sad to say because I used to think of this place as a safe space for people who are different.. Also the drinks I received were very weak pours. Not worth the money I spent there.
This place used to be a haven for alt folx with varied interests, with incredible shows, talented artists of all sorts, dope music, welcoming staff who made you feel safe, and an awesome vibe. I went there a fair amount when I was younger and loved it.I recently went back for a show with an EDM headliner, and had the complete opposite experience. The staff were, uninterested and unengaged at best and downright rude and snappy and insulting at worst. I make it a point to be very kind and welcoming to all kinds of people (learned it from a young age, and as a young adult, in part FROM places like GZ), so I hope that Im always polite to everyone, especially so to staff anywhere I go (I know what the service industry is like, and I go the extra mile to be a good patron in general). The staff here was shockingly rude. Whenever I went to order a drink, every bartender I interacted with (a total of 3 I believe) actually sneered as they barked What do you want? before I could even say hello. I also tip fairly well, at least 20% (usually more) and did so despite the rude treatment, but one bartender in particular scoffed when looking at the receipt I placed back towards their side of the bar.(The drinks were pretty bad as well)Security was needlessly rude, yelling at people who honestly didnt appear to be doing anything wrong (including in our group). Someone even come into the bathroom--apparently to check on its occupants--and screamed at a couple of people in a stall (one was feeling ill and the other was clearly helping them) that only one person could be in a stall. The show itself was phenomenal, but the whole experience was so very much the opposite of what I used to find there--I actually felt less welcome and even safe in some ways than at most other venues in the Cities.Ground Zero is no longer a haven for anyone, least of all alt crowds, it seems. I wont be going back or encouraging anyone else to visit unless I hear about some big changes there. Not the vibe.
This is a gimmick club for regular people who like the idea of goth and darkness. This club was giving Halloween party for older white people. The music was almost entirely one single beat that had old white mom music mixed in. They played maybe 4 actual goth songs all night and the dancefloor cleared because no one there knew actual goth music. The decorations are very Halloween but not very goth. The staff dresses in literal costumes with bright wigs and they all looked super angry all night. The performance was just some strippers rolling around on a bed pretending to have sex. The drinks were also very weak and even though we ordered off the menu the bartender didnt know how to make the drink she was following the menu.
Always such a great time! Very inclusive, safe and good vibes! Cheap drinks and great music!!!
The staff at Ground Zero are truly yikes. Standing between the bondage show area and dance floor with my back turned to The Chapel, when there wasn’t even a show in progress, I was absolutely berated by a staff member for having my phone out a few moments prior. I fully acknowledged that I still made a misstep on my end but don’t think I deserved to be talked to with such disrespect, the employee was shining a flashlight in my eyes and clearly trying to intimidate me. Looking at the other reviews, clearly there is an issue with the way staff members treat their patrons. It seems obvious to me that these people were bullied in their lives and now for some reason want to use whatever “authority” they have as bar employees to bully others which is pretty pathetic.I understand working in the service industry can be beyond frustrating but if you are unable to treat people with a little common decency, especially those who aren’t regulars and may not be familiar with the status quo and may miss a sign or make an honest mistake, then you’re in the wrong line of work.Giving 2 stars because if you’re looking for cheap, weak drinks and can overlook trashy employees, this is the place for you -- enjoy!
Staff are rude and mean to all. Epspecially women and LGBT people here. Not a confortable place for myself or friends. This place could be such a great hangout for the goth/rivethead community but they dont give a heck about the scene. They want your money and thats all they care about. They would do so much better if they lost the overly aggressive bouncer act, made the BDSM area enclosed, worked WITH the local scene and got a promoter who could bring in national goth and industrial groups.Ground Zero is the biggest let down for myself as a local goth. The epitome of potential, but no sense in ever fulfilling it.0/5 stars
This is my home! I love this club so much... Ive been going every weekend for the past 8 years and have found my community here.
Ground Zero on a Saturday night is another world. You have to check it out at least once to see if this side of the world suits you. It’s a really fun & nostalgic club. The dance floor is awesome & the drinks are quite reasonable.
Watched a live goat get sacrificed at this place. Would never recommend!
Super fun place, great DJs and a unique experience that you cant get anywhere else. Dont be boring dancing to kesha, go to ground zero and let it rip!
Ground zero can be a fun bar on Saturday nights. My partner and I went last Saturday and I accidentally used the wrong door when walking out to the Patio. A lady and her group of friends that worked there screamed at me and my group and called me unintelligent and said I couldn’t read. I was the only black man outside and it felt very racist and derogatory towards me.I spoke to security about the issues. He was a tall guy with long black hair and I informed him of the situation. He didn’t say a word to me and walked away. Please do better GZ
Personally not a fan of the music (when I was there it was house/edm). The bartender was also just not great. She made me feel guilty for being there and ordering a drink, it was just a little strange. The decor is cheesy but I thought it was cool.
Cool, silly, campy decor.... positives end here. Staff is generally unfriendly and aggressive if you dont know the rules which are not clearly posted or explained. Music sucks, drinks are ok.. bathrooms are a mess, unfriendly for queer people as I have had friends nearly pulled out of the womens restroom for just trying to use the restroom with stalls (there are none in the mens). They never let new DJs in and play the same exact music every single weekend. Creepy men generally creeping around.... and recently a woman of color claimed she was assaulted by staff and was harassed and demeaned on social media by the club management. They denied the event ever taking place and have no security cameras on the premises. Not safe
Not the most queer friendly bathrooms. There are no doors on the mens bathroom toilet stalls, and when I tried to find stalls with doors in the unmarked bathroom a member of security rushed me away and to the mens bathroom again. Very confusing. The music was so-so, but the decor was pretty detailed. Just not what I expected and the bathroom debacle made me and my partner ready to leave almost immediately upon entering.
Fun club but wish there was different music
Ground zero is amazing I highly recommend you go
This is an awesome place to go if you are into alternative culture. They play a lot of industrial type music. So thats great. Drinks are really cheaply made, but the prices reflect that. I was surprised at the amount of people that look like tourists. So just a warning if you want to come and not get weird looks. Wear black. Its a goth horror nightclub, it is overall very excepting and a really awesome place to go.
I had a blast the first time I came here! The bondage show was something I will never forget, I didn’t know that there were lot of different rules about getting up too often if you sit in the front and which way to get to the bar during a show so I got yelled at a lot by the workers. I wish there was a note or something pinned in her Facebook page about the curtsies/rules since I had never been there before (or seen a bondage show) and felt really bad about potentially being very disrespectful. Otherwise the music was great and I really enjoyed myself! I would recommend it to my friends, just be sure to read up on the rules and they have a cash only bar.
AGGRESSIVE mean bouncers. they play the same boring music all night, every night. creepy old men everywhere.
Have been here several times in the past and had a great time. Very accepting crowd. Went there for st paddys weekend and at bar close the lights immediately turned on and me and my friend were accosted by bar staff yelling get the **** out. As we were trying to finish our drinks we were approached by staff who then gave us a five second countdown and threatened to snatch the drinks out of our hand. As we were leaving through the door we were then followed, aggressively by bar staff. Sad to see how they treat non regulars.
Having gone here for many years I can easily say its one of my favorite places to frequent. Wonderful staff, good quality and well priced drinks, great Djs and events, very inclusive and its active but not overly crowded since its a large space.
Ground zero is a great place for a good dancing night. Never had a DJ I didn’t like. Love the dancers and the bar staff is incredible. Always had a great time.
Such an amazing venue!!! As a woman I felt very safe and it felt like a very consensual and LGBTQA+ safe space. Truly an immersive atmosphere, dark, spooky and fun. Wear black and have fun 😘
Was sent on a wild goose chase to find an ATM at night because they dont take cash or have an ATM.Later I stood looking at the two unlabeled bathrooms trying to figure out which to use, and when I finally gave up and started walking into one the nearby staff freaked and pushed me at the other.Final straw was getting yelled at by staff for taking my drink out on their patio for a smoke, apparently there are no drinks allowed and they wanted to charge me to come back in.I got the feeling these were all well if you were a regular youd know these things snobbery and power tripping.
The concept and atmosphere is great, but the bar is cash only and the drinks arent very good which makes it hard to rate. As a fun, seedy, and divey place to spend a night its a solid 4 stars (fun, but not exactly a VIP experience), but as a bar its objectively bad, hence the 3.
I gave it 4 stars because DJs wont play Gothic metal or goth pop literally a goth club
Our only good service was from the coat check guy.. the new decor is overdone and tacky.. the propylene glycol spewing fog machines were used excessively, during my recent visit and it caused me to leave early- on account of throat irritation. For a venue that hosts actual bands, they need a DJ on non-band nights who can flow music effectively. This place has a beautiful wood bar that needs refinishing and better lighting; making it into a permanent Halloween themed dive joint is not going to attract respectable patrons.
A wonderful place to go on saturday night for some quality entertainment!Pros:- Good stompy music- Great place to get away from T Ann Finn- Lovely decorations- Drink a Vampire. No really, do it. Its delicious, AND Ironic.Cons:- Sometimes the occupants spontaneously erupt into a swarm of bats which is like, an adorable event to see but also they might accidentally flap too close to your ear which is kinda disconcerting but hey, goths be goths.
SS vibes!! The perfect place to go after playing world of Warcraft all day. A bunch of really unattractive nerds that are 0% 420 friendly!!
Decently priced drinks and it was a very cool place to be. Every person in there was friendly and open
Amazing atmosphere. Staff is sooo awesome. If youre a first timer or and experienced pro, it doesnt matter. Acceptance is key in this environment. Everyone is just here for a good time. AMAZING.
Cover charge was advertised $5 and they charged $20, regardless of their advertisement. Music was eh..all sounded the same. Dress code is not casual, you have to conform to goth culture or youll get stared at. (Mind you it is Halloween weekend and we dressed up for it)... Not impressed
Basically the best nightclub in Minnesota. Their specialty nights are amazing, the staff is solid, and the music is great. Just the ideal place to dance the night away. A+ alt club.
A really cool gothic style club. So many coolThings to see and do there. Sadly it’s Cash Only bar, but the drinks were good! Definitely worth checking out.
Went there for a geek show with some friends and decided to stay after the show ended. I couldnt figure out why after the show ended the place emptied out on a Saturday night...until we tried to enjoy ourselves. When we tried to dance some guy came running up to us and told us no drinks on the dance floor. Ok, fine. We can see how if there were a lot of people dancing the place would get messy. When we tried to get pictures of our group together the same guy came running up and yelled at us to delete the pictures. There is a section in the back of the bar that does have signs up saying no pictures but we didnt take picture there. He didnt care. He proceeded to make us show him all our pictures and delete any from the bar. That is ridiculousThe bathrooms were also disgusting and you better hope that your friend doesnt have to pee as badly as you because you need someone to hold the door shut for you. Also, bartenders intentionally jack up drink prices and make them very weak. When we started the evening our drink was $5. A few hours later a new bartender showed up and was obviously new. She looked up the price for our drinks and asked for $4. She also made them a hell of a lot stronger.
Been attending Saturday nights Bondage A-Go-Go for a month now, its a comfortable scene. But more importantly, if youve got a slightly kinky bone in your body, its worth a trip to Ground Zero on Saturday nights. It can be a little isolating to realize you like being tied up and hit in Minnesota. We dont have much thats out in the open around here. Sure, you can find munches to go chat with other kinky people in plain clothes on FetLife. But Ground Zero gives you the opportunity to go watch some kinky fun with no commitment what-so-ever. For a small cover price, you can see people engaging in your wildest fantasies and see for yourself that there are other kinksters here in Minnesota.Other relevant points:- Cover is only $6 if youre 21+, drinks are okay priced (5.75 for a Jameson).- The kinky show goes from 11pm until 2am, then lights go on and they usher you out fast.- Theres usually regulars hanging out at the bar to chat with friends, but theres always an empty table in the middle if youd like to come watch the show. No one bats an eye at the couple or solo person just there to watch, regardless of what youre wearing.- Contrary to the bathroom complaints Ive seen below, the mens room is usually bright and clean.- They seem to alternate between a few regular Mistresses, whom usually have pre-arranged subs, and also allow anyone to sign up and play (with tip).Seriously though - what else are you going to do on a Saturday night thats better than watching nearly-naked people get teased and beaten by attractive, talented women?
DJ constantly increased music volume to painfully loud levels. From what I understand, this particular DJ was known for playing to loud despite warnings from club staff. Good atmosphere otherwise. Two-for-one drink specials sometimes.
Ground Zero is a very unique and intriguing location for dancing, drinks, or just a social gathering with friends/yourself.
Prices are okay but its boring. everyone here is older than me and there are no words in any of the music theyre playing its just repetitive noise
My daughter Angel..my grandsnek Cleo..and Justice are the best at what they do! Goth..BDSM.. And music etc. They are restarting their Ground Zero finally. Go see what they have..offer and enjoy the dance music. Spawnmom here! Just my opinion🐍😏🐍🐍🐍🐍🐍🐍🐍👍🔥🌟🔥👅
The worst dj in mpls plays crap music that doesnt blend woth the last song played. They have one large speaker that has way way to much treble. Small dance floor. The drinks they make are not strong they short ya on the shots if you dont order the shots alone. Wont ever be back here
Awesome look and usually some cool people, but very few folks dress goth so it loses a lot of its flavor.
This is home. And its NOT 18+.
Goth/industrial club. This isnt the place to go if you want to grind on the dance floor to hip hop or top 40s music. They dont have tap beer. But if youre looking for something dark and stompy this is the place to go. Cash only. 21+.
Covidpass entry requirements.. It was a niche club to start with, wonder what the dancefloor looks like right now. Mfw I dont have my hep B card from when I was a baby on me
One of those places you dont mean to go to but find your way there and experience the strangest, most insane awesomeness ever. NOT FOR THE FAINT OF HEART. Or most strong hearts as well
The staff kicked my friends and i out for being transgender, called us slurs, and laughed at us as we were escorted out. NOT lgbt+ friendly, DO NOT GO HERE
The BDSM show is basically an older unattractive domme awkwardly trying things with unattractive men and women. I understand this is the Midwest but youll find much better shows at the Gay90s for kinky Fridays.
Best place! Loud music that doesnt all sound the same, great people! Only downside is cash only and not the greatest tasting drinks
Place is terrible. Felt like I wasnt served in a timely because of my appearance in the club, and the staff was extremely rude. There are way better clubs to go to!
I love this place and its exotic themes. I just wish more people knew about it. You need to go there on a Thursday or Saturday night to appreciate it because there isnt much on the internet the clue you in.
Thursdays are a great night to come. The stage show is varied and wild. Kink, arial silks, good music and even some fire on stage.
Second Home. Great people, awesome workers, stellar drinks and best stompy stompy a freak can find
Interesting place but if the bartender violently throws your change at you like he did me i dont think he should expect a tip just some advice lost young man
I cant show pictures or ppl because thats a strict no-no, because its anAdult-participation bar ,😉💋and dance club. You understand.
Friendly and respectful people, mostly students, convenient despite u need cash . great place! I will go back many many more times..
Gothic decor, friendly staff. Drink prices a bit high. I like that no matter who you are or what you look like you will be accepted.
Goth to the max and the show was a great bonding experience. Also gotta give props to the bouncers for being totally cool.
I went on a Friday night and it was my first time. It was truly the most amazing experience ever!
Bondage show is fun but the goth atmosphere is not my scene. But I was there with friends and that made it fun!
Cash only, ID required, bouncer seemed to be letting some people in without either.
Disgusting to require vax or testing. Guess they dont get 1000 dollar fun. Will never consider them again.
Didnt know that they just changed the policy to 21 and up only. This was the only good place for people who are under the drinking age to hang out and meet great people.
Took in a bondage show here during the Vampire Ball. The place draws an awesome crowd of people that like to dress up, but the beer selection was terrible.
Last saturday me and my husbacd came here for the first time we loved it . Great music had a really good vibe.
Was there a couple of times years ago. Very interesting vibe, nice people. Dont be scared to go.
Really great atmosphere and nice drinks. The events are great and the crowd is welcoming and cool
Great place to go on Friday nights, small crowds and great drink prices, nice dance atmosphere where you can just be yourself.
Beautiful people and friendly staff members
First off, cash only for cover and drinks. The bar didnt have very many alcohols to choose from. For a bar with some awkward bondage, I expected them to have some Kinky.
Absolutely fantastic place! awesome that theyre requiring vaccine proof!
So much fun and awesome place
Great atmosphere with multiple themed parties every month a drink specials on a weekly basis
Best place to spend a Saturday night! Especially if you love dancing!
Very fun if you like the dark rock music genre (e.g., Nine Inch Nails).
Great service, despite being a little small. The remodel was beautifully done and the atmosphere is awesome.
Tell Mistress Mara and Madame Bee hi; a fun excursion to the wilder side and good prices on drinks
Great place, fun music and friendlier than most bars by far.
Very Different is the best way to descirbe it. I highly recommend you go atleast once in your life. It is CASH ONLY!
Best bar in town♡
You wont regret going here.
Great place, people are friendly, drinks are good, show was interesting.
Been going for over 20 years n its alwAys a place to go to have fun.
The patrons were very receptive to The Minnesota Krampus Verein last night!
Unique atmosphere, different music than played in any other club in the area.
Would have been nice if they said they were going to be closes on their fb page
Meh. Feels fake. The people seem judgey and weirdly ignorant
Youre bound to have a good time on a Thursday or Saturday night!
Interesting sociable place. Good shows. Good drinks
Very sad and unfriendly servicings ☹️
Decent drink prices and an open-minded crowd.
Ive always had nothing bit a dynamic of a time
Hella weird buy definitely an experience to remember lol
Very poor service. Bathrooms gross. Great vibe.
Low key and really fun place to go out in the cities.
Love Ground Zero!!! Such a great nightclub!
Its been an awesome stomping ground for years.
Awesome scene, the only place I go.
Saturday night fun! Bring your dancing shoes!
Cloudy With A Chance Of Techno w/ Paul Birken at Ground Zero!
Best dance music in the city
Go to for dancing. Best show in town.
Home away from home. Last standing goth club in MN.
My home away from home. 🖤☢️
Amazing place... amazing staff... amazing service....
I go most weekends!
Not breathing but still is fun 😜
Best EBM experience in the cities
High drink prices and extremely weak drinks.
Love the latest policy :)
In here its halloween all year.
Not cool.
Great time Everytime.
Dont remember anything.
This place is for posers
Great for bondage night
Trendy, but lame.
Packed after 11.
Great unusual place
Excellent
Great music
Awesome place.
Oh my gawth
Fun place!
Favorite spot
It is not one of my favorite places but it is a different and original place. There isnt a lot of variety of places in Minneapolis so I think thats a plus but if you dont have an open mind, dont go.
