For context I enjoy traveling quite a bit and have been to a lot of gay bars while doing it. I have got to say that canvas is a bar that a lot of other bars are pretending to be. Everyone is friendly, the bartenders are fast, the music is going but not so much that you cant carry a conversation. I loved the illumination event. Good vibes for a 5 dollar cover charge. Id also like to address some of the bad things that people are saying in other reviews. First the bartenders are not serving their friends faster, the concept of a line doesnt exist in that place and you have 4 bartenders running back and forth. They are not memorizing your place in line. Get over yourself. Second the woman at the front desk isnt a bad person. I think shes just a little high strung and that can be easily misunderstood. Shes just doing her job and making sure she does ID checks and yes that includes her potentially stepping away, coming back and realizing she didnt card you. Would definitely come back when im in the area.
I need to share the experience I had at the show last night, May 25th. The DJ was extremely rude or possibly under the influence. She took the microphone from the host and started lecturing us about needing to give money to the performer. To my understanding, tipping performers is at our discretion. Such behavior shouldnt be tolerated. I would reconsider attending the show if shes going to be there again. Moreover, during one performers act, the DJ, possibly intoxicated, cut the music off. When questioned, she just shrugged and continued being rude until someone finally took the microphone from her. It was really disappointing and unprofessional. Please make some changes, as I pay a cover to enjoy the show and have fun, not to be lectured by a disrespectful DJ.
I use to go to the other location every time I came in town . Went to the new location for my first time and it’s awful. First walking in the girl checking ID wasn’t there bc she was taking shots and then upset we didn’t wait for her and walked passed the entrance to the bar . Then I was recorded and pictures taken of me without permission and followed into the bathroom with video being taken of me there too. While hanging out and buying drinks for people I met ,there was a female who came up and started taking , all was good until I realized she and another man where hustling people and trying to pick pocket . This guy was also going around taking peoples drinks and drinking them when they weren’t looking . I brought his up to the very tall bartender who didn’t care at all. If you go here watch your back, your purse , your wallet and don’t let your guard down. I now need to call my back and dispute charges b/c I have over $400 and 6 different charges on my card . I opened a tab and should not have so many charges and for sure I did not spend $400 . It’s a sad day when you can’t feel safe when you’re trying to go out and relax from the already increasing pressure of the world.
Canvas supports abusive people!Canvas used to be one of my favorite places in Nashville. Then I was harassed at Canvas by a person who abused me a few months prior. I contacted the owner about it and they never responded. The owner and baby bartender genuinely do not care that this person is a disgrace to humanity, and they are surely a regular at Canvas now.
The karaoke DJ is not very courteous. They’re supposed to be there to make the experience enjoyable and fun for the crowd. That was not the case with this guy. If you notice, the owner doesn’t respond to any of the reviews. Clearly doesn’t care if you have a poor experience. It’s only money lost when people don’t return.
Cute places nice atmosphere but I wasn’t lucky on my bartender I ask for he’s best drink and I was just water and vodkaOver prices honestly but beautiful places
Food: Very very tasty food; you can really tell that they have a chef working in the back who has prepared the menu. It comes out quickly and hot n fresh. I typically get chicken tenders or the burger. Im not a fan of French fries myself but my friends are HUGE fans of the truffle fries with aioli for some reason so we can assume they are fantastic.Drinks: They have a large selection of alcohols: Wine, beer, spirits, mixers, seltzer, Jello shots etc. They dont seem to carry Titos vodka which is obviously a gay fave but they have a solid replacement with Deep Eddys vodka so Ill forgive them for it. They also carry Yuengling which is not the norm for a gay bar so I love you for that one.Service: During the busiest times can be a bit daunting to try and get a drink if youre a bit shy like myself due to them not having an apparent starting point for a line. However, if you stand in a visible spot and inch your way up and make eye contact, you should be able to get one within 3 - 10 minutes (times may be decreased depending on attraction levels). The bartenders are usually quite friendly and helpful.Atmosphere: I really like that they got rid of a lot of the center tables and opened up the floor to make it seem a little more club-like instead of restaurant-like. People here tend to group up into Cliques but are usually laughing together and dont seem too judgmental so if you feel extra confident feel free to go talk with them! They have an outside patio with heaters for the winter and this is probably my favorite place to stay.Activities: This place has a lot of activities on their calendar that flashes on the screen at the bar! Im not sure if their website matches up but I do like that they have a game night sometimes (even though I havent been XD). This place also has Karaoke on some nights and has a Eagle night every once in a while that seems to be highly popular with the local crowd.
I visited Nashville for the weekend and wanted to check out some queer spaces! The music was good. Our bartender Jeff was personable, quick and made great drinks. I will definitely stop back in next time I visit!
Terrible experience! Visited this place about 6 months ago at their old location. thought it be better, since they moved into a new spot. It was busy for a Monday so I thought the experience was going to be great. But instead theyre playing boring music and had some trivia about Kelsea Ballerini and Fletcher it was weird. We were hungry so we ordered food and we had drinks and when I got the bill it was $65! Okay, whatever. Paid and tipped cash... Looking at my bank statement... It says $75!!!! They added on a $10 tip on their own This is dishonest business
Love it - great vibes, music, decor, staff.
I’m gonna give y’all five stars since Nashville needs more gay bars. But the food is really not very good. The wings were sloppy and salty. The fries were also salty and had way too much truffle oil. The meatballs were inedible. Just a poor experience all around as far as food goes. But the owner is very nice and the atmosphere is pretty cool. I want y’all to succeed but the back of house seriously needs help.
Terrible service with extremely rude and inattentive bar staff. Tried to order drinks and was told they were switching shifts. Then immediately after bartender takes two ladies orders right beside us. New bartender from shift change never came over to get drink order as he was to busy talking to other staff. Sadly disappointed as “old” Canvas was superior with service and attentive staff. Asked for our itemized bill to cash out and was told it will just be on your credit card statement and you will not get a print out. Seems a little shady!
Canvas is walking distance from the AirBnB I was staying in, and it was recommended by a local I chatted with on Scruff. I’m so glad I went, if it was a 30 minute drive, I’d still go. Every single person I encountered was friendly. The drinks were strong. I made friends quickly. The lighting is really pretty. But most surprising of all, Canvas Lounge has one of the best French fries I have ever eaten, and I love fries! Crispy outside and soft inside, truffle oil, rosemary, Parmesan!??? No one prepared me to have one of my favorite French fry experiences. I got to meet Seth (the man behind the fries), and he was a delight. Very cool place. Thank you for making my first trip to Nashville a blast!
A chill bar with a nice little dance floor lined by couches. I love the nights when they have special events, especially 80s night! When Im not feeling like the full volume turned to 11 club experience but I still want to dance and meet interesting people this is my go-to.
WOW! Are the gays way more polite than back home. I had a blast here. Southern politeness really is a thing.not to mention, is it just me or is everyone in nashville fit and good looking? Is it a requirement? Back home, everyone is loaded up with pan pizza and beer with a snotty judgy attitude. I guess I need to switch to whiskey . I ran into a fellow Chicagoan that moved back to Nashville and I knew I recognized him!!!!!!!!!! He was awesome and made my night. I wasn’t even planning on drinking a lot till I met him and the other locals. Nice atmosphere, not quiet but not loud can still have a conversation and move around, good beers too, I throughly enjoyed myself and I would gladly come back when I’m in nashville!!! Stay cool canvas :)
Visiting from out of town, website is out of date with the old location address (thank you Google). Got here to have a drink and a bite to eat, bartender had an attitude and simply said “no food” and walked away. Not sure if that means they don’t serve food at all, or they don’t serve food on Thursdays. Needless to say we left to go somewhere a bit more welcoming.
One of my favorite gay bars in Nashville. It is the perfect place to go any night during the week for a drink. It can be a place to have a casual drink with a friend, or a cool place to kick off a date. On the weekends its a lot of fun. Full enough to be fun but not too crowded to be suffocating. The crowd is cool and the bartenders are kind. The owner is always around which is super nice to see. If you want to actually enjoy your time and meet decent people, this is the place for you.
Drinks and service definitely not anything special. Staff here is rude, careless, and don’t expect quick service unless your friends of the bartender or a regular here. You will be overlooked. However this is my issue.Didn’t receive my ID back from the front door after it being checked, when asked if it was there the guy told me it would be at the bar.I waited 15 minutes to ask the bartender if it was behind the bar, he promptly said “No” and moved on to the next guest. Didn’t check, didn’t ask anyone else, seemed they didn’t care at all. Now i’m without my ID on a weekend.
Went here once, and it was fantastic. The bartenders are friendly, attentive, and they know how to make a good strong drink. Definitely worth your money. It doesnt hurt that theyre all good looking too.My friend and I met more people there on the smoking patio than any other bar Ive been to. Super friendly crowd.
I dont really get the appeal of this bar if Im being honest. Theres a cover, but what are you paying for? The music is cheesy and old. The bar is small. Its just kind of lame, overall. I just dont get why theres a cover lol Its not giving what its supposed to have GAVE if you know what I mean? You can literally go to any straight bar in the city this size and be similarly unimpressed but not pay $15 at the door sooooooo...
I was very disappointed in my recent experience. A guy let my sister sing during his song by handing her the mic and the dj then said she couldn’t do anymore songs because she “took the mic”. He then proceeded to say that he’d shoot the next person that stole the mic. This came across as racist, given we are African American. It didn’t help that he was intentionally skipping our song requests and pretended not to remember. Maybe he missed seeing us tip him? Anyways, probably won’t be back, the music is usually pretty boring without my work crew. Js. Thought we were past this.
My husband and I visited this bar on 3/7/18from out of town. We didn’t have any issues with bartender Jackson. The oncoming shift started (little bearded guy in the little blue shorts, and the other one with glasses). We each had a 2 for 1 card and ordered two drinks each. We got our bill and noticed that we were charged for 3 drinks at $21 each ($42). We asked why our bill was high even with the 2 for 1 card we each had, and the little bearded guy in the little blue shorts insisted that the bill was accurate and talked down to us like we were idiots. We were very disappointed and felt we were taken advantage of. So we hesitantly paid the bill and left. The dishonesty left a very disgusting taste in our mouths. We don’t think we will ever come back and visit this bar again. Beware and don’t let this happen to you!
A dive like bar if not full on dive bar. You can dance here and its +21. The bar tenders are pretty fast and the drinks are well priced and strong. I always come here when I go to church. The crowd is a mix. Not the snobby people you see at tribe. More laid back guys. Aging from 21-35 on Saturdays. Gets crowded on Saturdays than Fridays.
I love local. Often I wish local loved me back.So just the corner bar with the corner folk. Cozy yes. Attempt to be special yes.is it a dive...not sure. I came in with no expectations and after my 1 beer those expectations were met.My only sad commentary is a local bar the bartender staff and the patrons all know each other. So when the Hey Look Someone New cones in, please make them feel welcome. Yes I felt initially unwelcome. Please take the rope lights back to Home Depot.
The environment is freeing plus relaxing, boasting the best bartenders in town with an outgoing & fun atmosphere.
I just had my first trip to Nashville and being at Canvas was on of the highlights of the trip. Very friendly staff. Amazing music and great ambience! Can’t wait to come back!
So the vibe is fine.... good times on different nights . The owner has something going. Except for his bartenders. They double charge if you’re not paying attention and if you are not a regular don’t expect service. I’ve waited 10 minutes on a non busy night and had to actually move to the other side of the bar to get service. Here for karaoke and asked for a water and the bartender actually walked away! I had to have to the karaoke dj get me water! I’m willing to support local bars but when they provide bad service i don’t want to come back. I get better service at Trax.
Great vibe, low key joint with chill bar crew. Mack is awesome and handsome as heck. Corey and Joey are hilarious!! Friendliest bar in Nashville.
The amazing bartender told off a guy who was verbally harassing me last night, to the point that the guy apologized sincerely and repeatedly. Didn’t catch his name but the bartender was excellent, and truly cared about my safety. Also, heavy pours.
Terrible service.I stood by the bar waiting for service while the bartender ignored me. I know he saw me because he looked at me, but continued assisting others. I even yelled out, “can I get some service?, and still nothing. Only two thoughts came to me and Im not reaching the second conclusion like a #BlackLivesMatter protestor does. The first was that I was breaking some rule, or I wasnt standing in the right spot. But the fact that there was a person before me who received prompt service in our 2 person line defeats that conclusion. The second is because he was racist. There were others who werent white but they were receiving service from another bartender assisting the small tables.Never been back, no desire to go back.
Good drinks. Great vibes. Bartenders and staff were nice. Felt fun and safe here.
John is super dope, helpful, and kind. Cool 80s/70s vibe
Recently relocated from Church Street so it’s nice to have another option in East Nashville. The space is large and there’s a big outdoor space. It would be great if they had food
I dont get why there was a cover - its just a bar! And then the drinks were like $12.50 each for vodka soda - thats outrageous. Do not recommend.
New York-style lounge in Nashville featuring an artsy, casual vibe; friendly, handsome service; excellent cocktails, beer, wine and food; the citys top DJs; and dancing, karaoke, and special performances.
I know it was closing and I appreciate that but the door man was so offensive and when I asked to speak to the manager he flipped me off. Derek, Im owned an apology. We should talk about the demeanor of your staff.
Love this bar. It’s a great spot for a couple of happy hour drinks and then head home.Friday night can be a bit chaotic but still enjoyable.
Small town friendly and beautiful
Actually like this place until i was stolen from . I handed the bar tender 2 crisp five Dollar bills to order a 8 Dollar Jack and soda and was handed back nothing .not my kind of customer service . Please dont steal from me please . Thank you
Canvas Lounge is a great asset to the LGBT community. Its also conveniently located among the other great gay bars in town.
I love this place. The karaoke is fun, the bartenders are friendly and scruffy hot, and the atmosphere is never pretentious.
Pretty sure the bartenders slip drugs in people’s drinks sometimes because I was there last night and there was a pill dissolving in my drink when I took a sip and didn’t swallow, went to the bathroom to spit it out unbothered.
Unless you know any of the bartenders forget getting any kind of service. We paid and left but could have as well walked out completely unnoticed.
Corey is amazing. If you only go there to see him it would be worth it. The food and drinks are amazing but Corey made our night
Cory Camp is an amazing bartender and Canvas is an amazing bar. End. Period. Done. (Cam is good too).
I love it. Everyone is so nice, so loving and accepting. It doesnt matter who you are, youre welcome here :)
Great music and extremely friendly staff! I had a blast dancing and making new friends in Canvas! Awesome place!
My boyfriend of two years use to work here, I’ve enjoyed every visit. 🙂 Fun fun place! Great prices, great employees!
Went in on a not to busy Wednesday evening and went to both corners of bar to be acknowledged for service and was completely ignored ..bar backs were taking a shot with the bartender in front of me and when i was standing right at the corner entrance going behind the bar..and they all looked at me and didnt ask me if what can i get ya ,hi hello nothing..being a restaurant business owner in nashville these employees would not be employed for me long at all..
It was fun, everyone who sang karaoke was amazing. We were the only girls there though for hours ...
This place is a joke to be honest. The DJ should find a place where hes appreciated. Visiting from South Florida and it was pretty mediocre compared...
Love the Ambience of this bar and how friendly The Bartender are. The owner is such an amazing fella.
Wasted money on uber cuz these people didnt update their hours online
Cool spot! I love that they play all types of music, House, Hip-Hop, R&B, Dancehall..its an amazing spot!
Terrible Service the bartenders were horrible very rude and it was just a overall bad experience. The doorman was absolutely unacceptable!
