Cool spot downtown Raleigh. The services was a little slow surprisingly for small to medium niche restaurants but Josiah did his best. Apparently they had a lot going on that we found out later. Our food was great once we got it, very nicely prepared!! We saw the chef bring out food for customers as well. The venue has an upstairs area and a small lounge party room seating about 50 people. I would say give this spot a try. The catfish was PERFECT crisp, that cornmeal was great and the double pork chop was very tasty. We are picky eaters and for the first time we had good macaroni and cheese after several other failed restaurants, the Big Easy was flavored, creamy and cheesy! The broccoli and green beans were fresh, green, crispy and garlic seasoned.
The food and drinks were phenomenal! I’m looking forward to dining here again to try more menu items. The staff is friendly and laid-back, creating a welcoming atmosphere. This place makes for a great quiet spot for lunch or dinner, perfect for enjoying a relaxed meal. The ambiance is cozy and inviting, making it an ideal location whether youre dining alone, with friends, or with family. The menu offers a variety of delicious options. Overall, its a fantastic spot to enjoy a meal and unwind.
Great place downtown raleigh. I just had lunch for the first time and glad I got to go. It was a great experience from the ambiance to the food. Great Cajun menu with a lot of flavor. I had the alligator bites as a starter and then the Creole chicken & rice dish which had a kick. Definitely a must try
Some friends and I came here for a quick brunch a week ago. We sat at the bar and had some drinks and food. I got the salmon cakes with macaroni and cheese and veggies while they had fried shrimp and wings. The atmosphere was welcoming, and the food was delicious overall. I would definitely revisit to try their other selections.
I hesitatingly (yes its a word now 😀) ordered the Shrimp and Grits because as a rather picky eater and resident of the gulf coast, Ive noticed that most restaurants will either get them right or horribly wrong.Let me just say, OH MY GOODNESS!! I dont know how Ive lived without going to this restaurant before! My life can now begin! The shrimp were so fresh, that they tasted like they came from a stream behind the building. The grits, Shrimp and sauce were such a succulent combination that made my taste buds dance with elation! Not to mention that the portions were enough to fill you up.Everyone at our table loved their food!! And the best part is that we came for brunch as a result of a 45 minute wait at another restaurant and we were able to walk in to get seated immediately! In fact, we were initially the only table in the restaurant. This is a hidden Sunday brunch jewel that should be bustling with customers. I will definitely be back again. This will be my first stop when I head back to Raleigh!!My food was so great that I forgot to take pictures until I had 2 bites left!
First time in NC was in town for Dreamville Music Festival. I kicked off my Friday night at the Big Easy. Found out about this place searching Google Maps. It was a long wait, so we walked around downtown to kill time. Fortunately for us we find out Friday is karaoke night. When seated I ordered the Grilled Baton Rouge Shrimp, the taste was good, but the shrimp was kind of small. The mule drink I ordered was excellent, almost ordered another one, but I went with the Hurricane. My entree was the Shrimp Po Boi with a side of sweet potato fries. The Po Boi was great, I was disappointed in the fries.
My wife and two best friends took me here after graduation! One of the best places to eat in Raleigh! Good Cajun food as well as other types! The music is a tad loud at times but that’s okay. We tried each other’s food and ordered dessert to share! It was an incredible experience! Our waitress was nice, responsive, and just very helpful! We tipped her very well and I took these pictures to tip the restaurant for doing a great job! We will hopefully be back!
First time in NC and decided to go to the big easy and by far the easiest choice I made. I had the shrimp and grits 10/10. Never had sausages with grits but it went prefect with it. Nice and a bit of spicy. Corn bread topped it off. The waitress was very nice appreciate her for the service.
My friends and I waited a while for a waiter after we were seated just to bring us water and take the order. We then waited about 1 hour to get food not crowded, and it never arrived. The waiter never placed the order. We spoke to the manager and said that he was going to check on it. Food never arrived. We ended up going to another place.
Im here for a conference and this was my first time visiting Raleigh in a LONGGG time. I’m here with my family and I really wanted some food that would be comforting to the heart and stomach…. I GOT EXACTLY THAT! You can seat yourself at the restaurant, and that’s exactly what we did. Minutes later we were greeted by William and Erica. Erica was training under Will, but she could’ve fooled me! She was like a pro! Great job Erica! I couldn’t have asked for better servers. William and Erica were kind, observant, friendly, quick, and gave good advice on the food and drinks! Awesome job, Will! I would highly recommend. The food was simply exquisite. It was hot, quick, and delicious. The presentation was great! I wish the food was a tad bit more spicy, however, they had hot sauce on the table which made it to my liking. I got the seafood gumbo! I also had a Hurricane Easy to go with it … WHEW! The bartender understood the assignment! 5/5! For dessert, we had beignets and the brownie … it was literally the best brownie I’ve ever had. The atmosphere was cool! I will be back when I come to Raleigh. P.S. My family states “the best food we’ve had in a long time. It was EVERYTHING! Best catfish. We’d eat here all the time if we lived here! 15/10 overall.”
I dont usually leave bad reviews but after having this very bad experience in this place I couldnt even taste the food from the beginning, all bad. When we arrived the host (a women) was not aware of her work and it took her a long time to even ask if we needed a table, in addition to trying to give preference to a couple of guys just to flirt with them, after finally sitting down no waiter came to ask us what we wanted to drink or eat I had to call insistently a waiter who only wrote the order in his notebook because after 45 minutes we clearly saw that he had not put the food order on the computer so I couldnt taste the food because we decided to get up and we left because of the bad attention and its not that all the clients had the same attention, but at least we were not well taken care of.
Ordered from the late night menu; Shrimp platter & BBQ wings. Drinks: Dragon Flower.Absolutely loved stopping in here after a night of debauchery 😁. Was starving and was happy to see this was open til 2. Atmosphere was pretty chill, altho it definitely can get rowdy with the late night crowd; youll never be sure of what to expect in Raleigh after midnight lolol. Our hostess was awesome, very attentive and made sure we always had a drink 🥹. Would definitely come back here to eat during the day ☺️.
I got the crawfish etouffee and crab dip. Both were decent. The dip was served with nicely toasted pita. Real crab was used. The etouffee was kind of off as far as authentic goes. The plating was beautiful and hosted a small cornbread muffin. Serving size was small for Creole. The rice filled me up though. The crowd management was a poor experience. The bartenders allowed a very intoxicatedan to play music from his phone annoying the entire side of the bar. I would recommend as it is downtown and decent food.
The restaurant itself is gorgeous, but the food and service was lackluster. We made reservations, but not sure why they accepted them as it was seat yourself. There was no table reserved for us, which means we wouldnt have had a table in a rush. They may have been understaffed, but the service was insanely slow. Our server was also irritated with us when we had issues with the food.We ordered the alligator bites, the sampler entree, the salmon, the green tomato sandwich, and the she-crab soup. We really enjoyed most of the food, but the salmon had absolutely no flavor. The she-crab soup was so fishy that it made one of us sick.Overall, the place was a big hit and miss. Maybe they should change their name to The Big Uneasy.
I’m not mad, I’m just disappointed. I cannot recommend this place in good faith to anyone. Service was slow despite not being busy, and the food was the most “meh” experience I’ve had in Raleigh in a while.Their service logistics need work, you can start by firing Chris. We arrived between lunch and dinner service when it wasn’t busy at all. At the door “Chris” told us to seat ourselves. Seems they should have a “seat yourself” sign because we watched many couples stand at the host stand and then decide to leave after no one greeted them. After being seated, it look at least 15 minutes before a man who looked like the manager brought us menus. The place was not busy at all and many servers walked right by us without making any attempt to acknowledge our existence. The manager and one other server both told us Chris would be our server. Chris walked by us several times and refused to make eye contact or acknowledge us at all. Finally Asia walked past and realized we didn’t even have drinks so she got us some waters. Again, said that Chris would be our server, who was completely ignoring us. After about 30 minutes of waiting, Caitlin, the bar tender, took our order and handled our service for the meal. We ordered our entire meal start to finish. A normal couple would have abandoned ship by now but we had time to kill and this place has been on our list for a while. The food was entirely unremarkable. The pimento fritters were tasty but it’s hard to mess up fried cheese. The taste of Louisiana platter was disappointing. The jambalaya and fried gator were the best parts, the other two dishes tasted like sad flavorless bean paste. We watched other tables get seated after us despite the fact that we were told it was “seat yourself”. We watched those tables get served, pay their checks, and leave before we received our final dishes.Don’t waste your time or money, eat somewhere else.
I try my best to be authentic with my reviews. I am not mad but just distraught. I came here for my sister bday party and I had ordered a a burger at the same time other ppl were ordering(also ordered alligator bites). Twenty minutes goes by and I get my alligator bites cool, ten minutes later my friend arrives and they start bringing peoples food out one by one. I wait 5 mins and everyone but two people including me did not get their food. Me and my friend were then approach by a grown man thats said it was his birthday and he said if we have some change. This guy showed us his Id to prove it too. Then my friend that arrived LATE got her food before me. At this point I see the waiter and ask her where is my food she said she will go check. My other friend gets her second order. She came back with another burger that I did not order and sat the plate down on my table then proceeds to say “sorry we mixed your order with some one else, but I told her canI just get the burger asked for and she said no problem. I got my burger and it was actually good. The service needs some improvement by far. Ravioli was bad
We had a great experience here along with awesome food! The staff were kind, funny, and genuinely good people! The food was authentic Creole and Cajun style with fresh homemade taste that made it hard to stop eating. We were pleasantly surprised to have the best alligator bites ever at this little place! The drinks were also made well, fairly strong but not too over the top. I wish I lived closer so I could make a weekly trip to revisit this little gem.
I visited this place on a whim. Instantly able to find a seat , fast and easy service . Sam provided great customer service and made sure my partner and I enjoyed ourselves. Even when I ordered the crab cake and didn’t like it , Sam and the manager were very nice and accommodating. I would recommend this place !
My friends and I decided to try The Big Easy for lunch today. The food was amazing! I got the turkey bacon melt with a side of mac & cheese with Granny Smith slices on the side. Oh my… was the mac & cheese very cheesy!! Loved it!! Ooo we tried the Beignets too…delicious indeed!! The atmosphere was very calming & the soulful music was uplifting! Great wait staff as well. We definitely will be back!
Where to start. Second time trying to eat here. We had a reservation, sat down and waited 20 mins before having to approach the bar to get a server. After another 15 mins we got our drinks, after watching the hostess and two servers argue loud enough for everyone in the front section to hear. They were more concerned with their phones and people outside the restaurant, than the paying customers. We came for a date night and it was essentially ruined thanks to lack of service from what seemed to be a well staffed restaurant. The food was pretty good, only redeeming quality of this location. Other tables suffered the same fate and surprisingly waited to have food. If it wasn’t for my partner I would have left. Portions aren’t great for what you pay either. All in all I won’t be back to this restaurant. Such a shame for a place that seems to have a lot of potential. Oh and you can’t melt 3 slices of cheddar together and call it pimento lmao
Really enjoying the atmosphere here. Started with a whiskey sours for myself and a big easy Manhattan. The whiskey sours was 80% sours go 20 % whiskey. Order at your own peril. The Manhattan wasnt the best. We labeled it ok. No alternate notes. The Louisiana crab dip was exceptional. The wife ordered the salmon and was underwhelmed. Missed a lot of the notes described in the menu. Would skip it next time. I had the etoufee and was pleased. It does have a rice built in even tho the menu doesnt say so dont order a side of the rice. Jalapeno and honey cornbread on the side is nice. Both the brownie and bananas foster come in half sizes which is super rare and nice. Both satisfy.
Shrimp and grits were amazing. Grits were creamy and cheesy and perfectly seasoned, shrimp was cooked perfectly and sausage was delicious, full of flavor and not too spicy. It came with cornbread that was GF and that was a big win for me. Husband got the seafood platter and said everything was fried really well. A nice thin coating of batter, crispy and flavorful.
Went with friends and while the employees were friendly, there seemed to be a disconnect in communication. We called in to see if rooftop dining was available, placed a reservation for it assuming we should and upon arrival not only do they not have rooftop but nothing was reserved. No big deal, least of the issues. We sat and order our food and after 20 minutes we were told they were out of Onion rings leaving me with the limited options for sides. Pretty much just French fries which werent crunchy. They were undercooked and luke warm like they were under a heat lamp. The appetizer of grilled shrimp was 10 dollars and you get 8 shrimp they were over cooked and poorly seasoned. The gator poboy came out and it was heavily over seasoned. The gator bites that were on the sandwich were small and mostly breading that tasted like they were dredged in salt. The seafood platter was mediocre for the price. None of it seemed crispy and again seemed to have sat under a heat lamp. For the cost we would have been better off trying something else. Of course, nothing ventured nothing gained and while its possible it was an off night, they have lost me as a future customer.
Doesn’t even deserve one star.Had reservations for 6:45. Was not greeted at door. When host finally acknowledged, you couldn’t hear what they were saying they spoke so low. Pointed to a table instead of walking us to it. One person finally walked to table but walked far ahead and didn’t even at “follow me”.Sat for 20+ minutes and was never greeted or acknowledged. Several servers walked by but wouldn’t even look over at us.We asked who the server was and no-one knew , including the hosts.
Totally awesome! Tried the pimento cheese bites, very tasty. Got the taste of Louisiana and was able to add a cup of Crawfish Etouffee. All of the dishes were delicious and unique. The red beans and rice was the best overall. However, the smoky gumbo, rich etouffe, flavorful jambalaya, and the slightly lemony gator bites were all stars as well. The wait staff were attentive and picked up empty plates readily. All told a great experience.
We had Alex as our waitress. Friday night karaoke 🎤 expected to be busy and exciting. When I tell you Alex rocked it!! She made sure my table was taken care of. Not to mention the art work!! This is now our Friday night spot.
This was my second time dining here and it was so good!! I loveeee the vibe of the restaurant. I love the food. And I love how friendly the staff is (specifically Deja, our waitress). It is a bit loud due to the music and amount of people, so if that bothers you, my 4 star rating remains, but if it doesn’t, I’d give it a 5!
I enjoyed this place! Nothing bad to say about it unless I nitpick. The waitress was very attentive besides the place being short staffed. Food was hot and drinks were cold. The atmosphere was very relaxed would recommend this for a date night or meet up with friends for drinks and good food. Ill definitely be eating here again!Shout out to my waitress Asia she was putting in work on those stairs
The Big Easy is a popular full Bar & restaurant on Fayetteville St that offers a very lively atmosphere featuring a live DJ on weekends, 2 levels of seating and New Orleans style Cajun menu. I visited and ordered from their late night menu after 11:30 p.m. Staff was friendly and kind. We were seated near the bar and the DJ DVS was spinning throwback Hip Hop & R&B. He is excellent. He didn’t play a bad song.I decided on the catfish platter and had a side house salad. I paired it with a old fashioned bourbon cocktail. Our waitress worked hard at bussing and serving tables. She was overwhelmed with work due to the lack of staff. Despite this, our food arrived quickly given the time of night. My catfish was the perfect amount of filet and nice and crispy. This is definitely a convenient stop for a Cajun style brunch or for some weekend fun while downtown. They offer all the vibes with DJ DVS and karaoke some nights.
I did not purchase any food, but the drinks were ok. We had a really good time. Everyone enjoyed the karaoke performances. Tables and seats have to be reserved. The server for our table was not very nice at all which is why I personally didnt order any food while I was there.
Best Mothers DayI’m originally from Louisana so my husband took me to The Big Easy for Mother’s Day this year, and it was the best one so far. My toddlers crushes the alligator bites and my son with Autism loves the Gouda Grits ( he is really picky). It was a win because everyone found something on the menu they could eat, which is hard for our family. Also great service! Great atmosphere! And most importantly GREAT FOOD! We will be back
My wife and I went as a change of pace - try something new. Alligator bites were good, my seafood player was good. My wifes food on the other hand was issue after issue! She got a cup of jambalaya but it was all rice - she had to send it back so they could change the scoop of rice so it included meat. Then, the bourbon brownie was a hockey puck, literally a rock, couldnt cut it with a knife or fork but could have broken a window with it! Luckily for us the waiter said he would take it off the bill like he was doing us a favor, uh yeah thats the least you could do. It was supposed to be a pleasant night out on the town but it was a comedy of errors. She grabbed something from McDonalds on the way home!
Caught them at a great time yesterday while the food truck park aligned the opposite side of the street. Everything was absolutely spectacular! Very excited to return so that we can try everything else on the menu.
As a food blogger for A Pinch of Butter! I was on vacation in Raleigh NC and I stumbled on this restaurant and I am so glad I did. The atmosphere was inviting, the food was incredible, and the Pimento Cheeses Fritters was fried to perfection. Me and my bestie had the seafood platter and we both give them a 10/10.
I’ve never done this before, however when someone threatens your job I have to warn others about this. I occasionally drive DoorDash to help make ends meet, I have 5 stars as I am very quick and have never been rude to a person in my life. I came into big easy on 4-25 in the evening to pick up an order I received. When I arrived I asked the bartender and he said it would be 10 minutes (long wait for delivery food but I don’t mind). So I sit at the bar and play on my phone for 20 minutes with nothing. DD then began giving me notifications asking why I haven’t picked up the food yet and that my percentages will be affected. At this point the bartender was no where to be found so I went and asked the host “hey can you check on the DD order, I appreciate it”. He left for a while and finally the bartender came back from wherever he’d been with the food. I took the food and he said “maybe don’t show up 2 minutes after the order was placed and show up”. I told him that’s not how it works, I don’t know when the order was placed, I’m just told that I need to go pick it up. He then said some bizarre quote about “that’s not how the law of thermodynamics works either” which made no sense. Only for the host to come over and then threaten my job by giving me a bad review. I asked why he would say that? To which he replied “you don’t have to be so persistent” which made no sense considering I had just waited almost 30 minutes for a “10 minute order” and asked ONCE if someone could check after 20 minutes had gone by. To which I now have to preemptively tell DD what happened to ensure that review is not placed on my account. Unbelievable, I was in shock for the whole experience. Any management reading this, I’m happy to provide more detail so you can check the cameras to see what I’m talking about. Completely psychotic behavior for no reason.
The service could have been better, but my food took approximately 53 minutes to make it to the table from the time I ordered. The drinks they gave were really delicious, but I just assume it must be the cooks in the back that took a long time to make my meal. The waiter only came by to ask if we needed more drinks, but never to update us on why our food was taking almost an hour to come up. Food should never take that long to come out, but if they were running behind or short handed they should at least acknowledge the fact that its taking forever. I have to give it 3 stars. I died of hunger three times before it came out. But Im revitalized now. Sheesh that was a close one.
I was attending a birthday gathering in the Voodoo Room. I had been before years ago and enjoyed the food, so I was looking forward to it again. The room was dark to set a mood which was fine, but a couple people almost fell into the room since you cant see the steps down into the dark room. The food was also very slow to come out, they had a schedule but were way behind what they promised the host, so by the time some items came out half the guests had left. The catered food was also not that great as I had recalled in the past. I will come back to sit down and dine and see if it was just the party catering they did which was the difference.
Any place that has seafood gumbo as an option on a brunch menu is superb! The food was 10/10, we didn’t have to wait long and it was served hot and fresh. I would highly recommend the seafood gumbo, a bowl of it will make you want to go home and lay down happily!! A good seafood gumbo is hard to come by and this place nailed it!!
Went to Artsplosure on Sunday and stumbled across an old friend. The food was as good as I remembered and the waitstaff efficient, helpful, and friendly. They sat us in the back and it was a bit dark. Had to turn on my phone flashlight but that is the only critique. Highly recommend
All I can say is...WOW! I want to plan a trip to New Orleans now just based on the food I tasted here! And the bartender/server is the type of social butterfly that was a sage or mental giant in another life. He was super friendly, adapted to each of his customers personalities and remembered orders without writing anything down and remembered his regulars orders on walk in...WHAT???! The only thing I can complain about is the lack of parking but thats not the restaurants fault. YUM!!!
Excellent food, with several options. The atmosphere was very relaxing amd enjoyable. My wife had the Salmon and I had the Crab pasta, we also shared some Alligator Bites. We had shannon as our waitress and she made the experience delightful. We will definitely return and bring some friends and family next time.
If you’re going for the food, try another restaurant. After years of fried oysters and oyster Po Boys the quality of the fried oysters has deteriorated to crunchy desiccated “rocks”. French fries were good and the sauces, I don’t normally eat least I spoil taste of the oysters, helped add sufficient moisture to choke down a poor quality over cooked fried oyster meal. So disappointing! ✌️out!
Stopped by for the first time while visiting Raleigh NC, and Bonnie was our waitress. She was great!! Food came out fast, hot , and delicious. Crab cakes was definitely worth it. I enjoyed the atmosphere and the bartender didnt miss on those drinks!!! Thank you for a great experience!!!
Second time visiting Raleigh for work and came to Big Easy for dinner on our first night. Super glad that we did because we all enjoyed our food, tried alligator, and had fun with our host Bonnie. She was so engaging and flexible with our requests. Everything from the moment you enter and leave was so easy, we even automatically had our bills split accordingly without even having to ask. Thank you!
We went as a family tonight, kids ranging from 1 to 17! We are from Utah, my brother and his wife live here in NC. We found this place and had the best time tonight! The food was delicious! The shrimp and grits are the best I’ve had! Bananas Foster were to die for! Great beignets! Bonnie was the best waitress. She took such great care of us, friendly, and went above and beyond! Highly recommend this place!! Great southern food!
The food was excellent but service really slowed down as we approached the end of our meal. It was a moderately expensive lunch for four (2 adults, 2 kids), $69 before tip.The pimento cheese fritters were delicious and I really enjoyed the cup of sausage, beans, and rice. The muffaletta, chicken tenders, and shrimp and grits were wonderful too. I was shocked by the lackluster beignets.
Came in Saturday night it was so hot in there I bent the menu using it as a fan. We seated ourselves & it took 20-25mins for us to finally be greeted. When we were asked our order, they were out of everything we wanted. Highly disappointed when I’ve never had this experience here! All we could get was an extremely wet Caesar salad with w/ a nice waitress. And a bunch of street peddlers coming to us begging for money. The only reason I’m giving 2 stars because of the waiter when she finally came. She was very courteous
Wait times for food were wretched. I ordered the fried shrimp platter, which took literally 40 mins (I timed it). At around half an hr, I asked one of the servers (named Carter) if there was any update on my food. I asked her because my original server was behind the bar, and clearly tied up with other customers. Carter told me to get back in my seat and that 35 mins wouldnt kill me. I was so taken back by her rudeness that I lost my appetite, and told her to take it off the bill. Shameful behavior! Will not be back!
Very disappointed. I typically doordash but decided to visit in person on a Tuesday. I waited at the door to be seated and wasnt, so I sat down. At the time there was no one seated at any of the high top tables. 3 staff members passed me multiple times before one finally gave in and asked if Id been helped. Before I could say I didnt need a menu they turned away as two new customers came in. They were warmly greete, immediately seated and given a menu. Understandable, as the staff was headed in that direction to get me a menu. But then the staff got them both water and walked past my table again without acknowledging me. Id already been there 12 mins. I left without ordering. It wasnt busy. They simply didnt want to serve me.
Just wonderful! Yes, yes, and yes again. Great customer service, excellent food which caught me by surprise for a bar (first time having bar food) the ambiance of the atmosphere was amazing I went during lunch on a weekday and it was a nice flow of people all great vibes from the workers to the customers. Definitely try this place out if you like good food & drinks.
Nice place. Came here for a quick lunch. Not crowded at all on a Sunday for lunch. Good customer service. I ordered their Gumbo, it was delicious. Made with chicken and spicy sausage. Comes with white rice and biscuit. They also have a nice beer on tap list. Some of them local. I recommend the Red Oak draft. Cant talk for evenings here, but seems it gets busy and there is live jazz everh Wednesday night.
We were in the mood for some New Orleans flavored food so decided to try The Big Easy. its a bar + restaurant so we sat at the bar and had lower expectations of the foodwe got the fried green tomato and pimento cheese sandwich with a side of gouda grits. my friend got the shrimp and oyster poboy with the alligator bites to start and red beans as a side. the gouda grits were great, the poboy was good, the alligator bites were decent but salty, the sandwich was good but needed a bit more flavor and the red beans needed workoverall a nice relaxed ambiance with better than expected food
Ordered food from here, the night before this date. The following morning, me and my family experienced food poisoning from the chicken wings and tenders. Also heard the place has a history of racism so dine cautiously, at your own risk.
First time here. Fried oysters were delicious. French fries over fried. Spinach salad was excellent. Large portions. Reasonable prices. Friendly service.
I went here on a Saturday, late afternoon. It didn’t seem very busy, but the bartender came thru by getting me seated and being my server. I was seated more towards the rear so the lighting was pretty dim, but it was okay with me. I loved the atmosphere and vibe. It was calm and very nice artwork- kind of gave a jazzy vibe.I ordered crab cakes, green beans, and mac. Everything was on point. The crab cakes actually were meaty and not just breading. The freshly cooked green beans were garlic flavored. The mac and cheese was cheesy and piping hot.On a future trip to Raleigh, I would definitely consider exploring more from their menu.
Our waitress was great Shannon was great. Im giving it 3 stars because it took an unusually long time for our entrees to arrive and when they did we discovered out grilled chops were under cooked. The garlic mash and green beans were excellent. I think if the chops were properly cooked this meal would have been great. It is restaurant week so maybe they were understaffed in the kitchen for the crowd. If youre in Raleigh, NC give it a go.
We had our 21st class reunion here this past wknd and I must say this is a pretty nice place! Drinks were AMAZING (🥴) and whoever made the jambalaya...yeeesssss!!! New Orleans is my favorite vacation spot and that jambalaya was sending me back!!!
I loved the Customer Service and the Green Tea Shots which was dope. Also the fact that the bar is wide enough that you can sit Separated from other people but can still communicate across without it seeming like your screaming. Lol other then that the food was Great. Loved everything Ive had. Will come again for sure.
I completely dislike giving reviews under 4 but from the start I shouldve turned around and walked out. We werent even greeted by the host, she just looked at us as if we were suppose to seat ourselves. The waiter was just ok.The food and drinks took forever. By the time the waiter brought our drink the ice was melted. The food was cold and not good at all. Order the fried seafood platter and I got more oil on my plate than food. To me the food was seasonless. And then its like they give me salad shrimp. This place has so much potential and a nice vibe but needs a change.
Food was great service was fast. Wasn’t too busy we were able to walk right in and be seated right away. The shrimp and grits were our favorite. Only downfall was how dirty the bathrooms were. They were so bad we started to leave.
Great food and a super cool eating ambiance vibe. The waitress snd the waitress in training were on point. My only feedback would be to consider having music in the background I.e. a singing guitarist.
The food was good, and our server was great! However, the manager was very rude. She came to our table our around 4:56pm to tell us that she needed our table for a large 5:00pm reservation. We were done eating, so we let her know that we hadnt received our checks yet. She comes back a couple minutes later, without our server or our checks, and reminds that she needs the table. We advised her again that we needed our checks. She walks away from us, goes over to the hostess stand, where it was fairly obvious that she was talking about us in a not so kind way. When she came back past our table, my friend asked her if everything was okay, she responded about that reservation again, my friend reminded her that we didnt have checks. My friend also told her that her her rude behavior wasnt necessary, she didnt have to keep coming by to remind us of the reservation, we could leave and not pay or she could get us our bill. When our server came back, it was obvious that she knew nothing about the reservation or the harassment we had received from the manager. She promptly got our bills so we could pay and leave. The Big Easys food is good, but not good enough to put up with a rude manager.
The taste of Louisiana is simply 3 bowls of rice and 5 crumbs of alligator. Not worth the price. The jambalaya was mostly broth. Will not return.
We initially went to The Big Easy because we saw on their website that they have a DJ on Thursday nights & do a “Throwback Thursday”set starting at 10pm, with $4 well drinks. We got there around 9:40pm. The restaurant was freezing cold & there were only 3 other people seated at the bar. No DJ. No drink specials. Asked the server about it & he said they didn’t do it anymore, they need to update the website ASAP. The space is beautiful, the ambiance is nice... they could get a huge crowd in there if they marketed right to to the right people. 2 doors down was packed, had people waiting in line to get in. The food was greasy, Fries were cold, shrimp & oysters were fried too hard but the seasoning was good. We won’t go back until they revamp.
Mostly bar type food but had some great options and open late which has been difficult to find lately. Picture is the HALF serving of the bourbon glazed brownie sundae, phenomenal! Alexis took great care of us and recommended the alligator bites; also a great choice if want to try something different!
I’m always on the lookout for Louisiana cooking and was glad to have found it in Raleigh. It isn’t the best representation thereof you’re likely to have come across, but it still made for a very enjoyable lunch.Housed next to the City of Raleigh Museum, The Big Easy offers a comfortable atmosphere with low lighting and vintage photos on the walls. There is a large bar area but plenty of tables as well. The menu here is true to the establishment’s concept, offering up everything from jambalayas and gumbos and etouffees to muffuletas and po boys and more. It all sounded good, but with some more walking around in our near future, my wife and I bypassed the heavier entrees in favor of two sandwiches (fried green tomato & pimento and a half shrimp, half oyster po boy) and an app (fried alligator bites). The Big Easy’s food rates as good, not great. The po boy was generously stuffed with well-breaded seafood and featured a flavorful creole mayo. A side of slaw was nice and creamy, but it was outclassed by the other side, a wonderfully smoky red beans and rice. The tomato and pimento came on toast that held everything together well and offered a very satisfying crunch albeit at the expense of being a bit dry. The alligator bites, while not tough or unpleasant, were somewhat chewy (the dipping sauce was quite good though).Given the Downtown Raleigh location, The Big Easy’s pricing wasn’t as high as expected. The alligator bites ($12.95) weren’t cheap, but they are also not something you can find easily elsewhere. The po boy was only $1 more while the tomato & pimento ran $10.95, both with sides included. We weren’t waiting long for food to come out, and Monique was a friendly and knowledgeable server. They might not do the single best version of anything here, but if you’re looking for a large selection of mostly satisfying Cajun/Creole fare in Raleigh, look no further. The promise of bananas foster bread pudding alone merits a return.
Enjoyed our tasty lunch today, alligator bites, bbq ribs and catfish was on point. Good and friendly waitress. Will recommend and return here 👌🏾
The wait and attention to servicing customers was definitely “easy” or lack luster at best however the quality and promptness of the food and strong drinks made up for it in the end.
Food was exceptional, great location, and very good atmosphere. Only thing I would have liked to add to atmosphere would be play smooth jazz. But, if you want a good place to have New Orleans food this is it!
Delicious cajun food with a North Carolina twist. Excellent service while I was there as well. I had the stuffed shrimp to start and had the Jambalaya as my entree. It was quite spicy, but unless you dont like a lot of heat, definitely something you would like.If youre in the mood for something different, check them out!
Went in to have lunch with h my coworker, but didnt want anything too heavy. I decided to go with the house salad but added blackened chicken. Oh my how delicious it was with the warm chicken. The chicken was seasoned perfectly and the raspberry balsamic dressing complimented the salad very well. 5 stars is not enough.
They have an open space with a large bar. The bartender immediately greeted me. I kept it simple with a vodka and soda. It took me a minute to decide because all of their food looked good. Ive tried the jambalaya before and wanted something different.Decided to go with the fried catfish platter, subbing the coleslaw for beans and rice. Everything hit the spot! Both the tartar and the cocktail sauce were tasty! Though my husband wasnt with me, he asked me to bring home the brownie and ice cream dessert. It was the perfect thing to cap off our night.
Loved the look and feel of the place, the staff was very helpful, and the food was definitely a win! I ordered the salmon and would highly recommend it.. as well as the jambalaya 💯
The atmosphere and the service are great before the DJ started. If youre going to have a DJ, make sure (s)hes good at it. Drinks: Pineapple Dragon something Delicious; Strawberry margaritas Meh. Appetizers: Stuffed shrimp Delicious; Crab poppers Meh. Entrees:Chicken and Sausage gumbo a disaster it was a bowl of gravy tasted like they made it in the microwave I only had one piece of sausage and chicken. Lobster ravioli was delicious I would have preferred a little more salt. I still give it 4 stars for the atmosphere, service, some of what we ordered was Delicious, and they didnt charge me for the nasty gumbo. We would have stayed longer and drank more, but the DJ was awful.
This food was not it!! Ordered 20$ gumbo that was missing coleslaw was hot spoiledMac and cheese was bland tasted like it came from kfc!! Ravioli was good but other than that my whole order was not so good
Loved it and the bartender/server was great. Cajun pasta and salmon burger was delicious.
Ive been here a few times and keep wanting to come back. The bar back is so friendly, as the are the rest of the staff. However, I only want to be back when the barback is there.
If I could give my experience zero stars, I would. The service was AWFUL. Our server was unattentive to our needs. We sat at the bar and waited 15 minutes with no acknowledgement. I waved the waitress down to get a attitude and a very lack luster service. She was more attentive to the drunk white guy that sat down beside us and who screamed across the bar at her through his entire meal. She showed noticeable attitude when I told her my fries were cold, and my drink was awful (not in those words). I ordered food to go and of course, she got that wrong. I never received my order of hot fries and the management wasnt any better. Needless to say, this was the worse dining experience I have ever received. Not to mention, this was my FIRST visit to the BIG EASY and I will NEVER return.
Just want to shout out our server Will!!!Very kind gentleman!! Great service! Great experience. All the other staff were also kind!! Thank you
We visited for a second time, and it just wasnt the same. The po-boys were still delicious, but some of our order came out wrong, and cider tasted like a sour or just bad. The floor and the bathroom were so dirty and needs a good cleaning. We will probably go back and pick up po-boys to go.
We ordered ribs and fries. The ribs were good. However, they were overtaken by Barbecue Sauce. The ribs were drowning in sauce. The one saving grace was that the sauce had an okay taste. The dish could be improved by reducing the amount of sauce and or allowing it to cook into the meat more before plating. What should be noted was the portion. They gave you a lot of food! The food was fresh. The fries and onion rings were hot and tasty. We shared a full rack. This was the largest rack of ribs we had ever received in a restaurant. I dont think the two of us ate half of the rack of ribs. We would visit again.
Great experience! Loved the food! Server was friendly, and knowledgeable. The atmosphere was great! 10/10. Will be back!
I was there last Friday with a 1st time guest to support my friends Karaoke night and everything was going well until the rude and unprofessional manager came outside while I was smoking asking me if I was coming back inside because I had a tab open, as if I didnt know I had a tab open. First of all, I ordered more drinks and told my server I was going outside to smoke and to leave the menu on the table because I was going to order to go food. When I walked back in, the rude manager handed me my check. Why do you have my check because I planned on ordering more? Oh, we thought you were trying to leave.I guess we were the typical black guys that run out on checks. Clearly, you misjudged us. Im a Senior Manager at a restaurant with over 200 locations in 46 states. I paid my tab, tipped my server well, and vowed to never return. Unfortunately for my friend, I will not be back to support his events
First time here was for my 9 yr anniversary a few days ago and Im still talking about it today, it was so good. Husband got the jambalaya and I got shrimp étoufée.When you walk in there is stately artwork, a deep atmosphere, great food and drinks. This place has character and it was a good time for us both. Hope to make it back to try more dishes out, drinks too
I was totally Disappointed with the So-Called Seafood Gumbo! Unfortunately I didn’t check my order before I left the restaurant. Got home and discovered this was SEAFOOD GUMBO SOUP! Check out the picture and you tell me. Over the years, I have eaten at this restaurant and they served decent seafood gumbo. BUT NEVER AGAIN! He should be a shame of yourself serving food like that. Looks like it was canned soup from Campbell. Keep this type of food and your days in business will be short lived.
The food was great, the service was very friendly, just wish the drinks came out faster, but overall, it was an amazing experience
Fantastic vibe here. Good food with a Creole flair. My wife had she-crab soup, and it was delightful, the way we are up eating it. We split some oysters Rockefeller, and they were good, but a bit too lemony for me. BUT - they came with flash-fried sounds, yummy which I absolutely love. It was out of this world. My daughter had a burger and fries that she raved about. I had the Taste of Louisiana, which included gumbo, jambalaya, red beans & rice, and fried shrimp. It was delicious, but I would have enjoyed more shrimp (they were incredible!) and the jambalaya was but more tomato-ey (and therefore sweeter) than I make it. We finished with beignets, which were so, so good. I also had some good craft beer - there a decent local selection. If you enjoy Cajun food or seafood, check this place out!
Every time I go there the food is really great. When you go on Fridays for karaoke the atmosphere is fabulous. However the recent change in management allows me the opportunity to say that the customer service is definitely not what it used to be. When we came in we had attitude from the time we entered the door with the greeter. And management wasnt even much better. However our waiter was great so that made up for it.
Wonderful food (the she-crab soup is unbelievable), great, friendly service. Prices are surprisingly reasonable, which is always appreciated.
It was my first time visiting and I really enjoyed the food and ambiance. The drinks were great and the menu wasnt over priced. My waiter could have had a little better customer service but the manager on duty made up for where she lacked. I will be back to visit again
Came for my mom’s 61st Birthday & had an AMAZING time sitting by the bar. Bonnie was bartending with 2 others but you would’ve thought she was just OUR server. 🥹 Drinks AND entrees came out so fast I thought the runners had the wrong table! Lol!Fried Catfish: Crunchy & AmazingBlackened Catfish: On Point!Premium Side: DEF PremiumSweet Tea: THANK YOU for serving fresh, bold-bodied tea! 🤌🏾Anywhoo, I will def be back when I pop thru Raleigh again! BRAVO team!!!
My friends took me to this Restaurant and I must say the food was so good, but the server serve us one drink and told the manager we was already drunk, how and we just got there! So they would serve and we left and the bathroom was nasty
The food at this place is VERY tasty. I had the shrimp and grits, and my son had the ribs. Both of theres entrees were extremely good. Great atmosphere too. Definitely recommend.
Had a fried shrimp po boy and it was so good I came back and got another one the next day 😅 staff was super friendly too!
I was blown away by how delicious the food actually was. If youre looking for a place to get together with some friends or a business meeting for some drinks and a bite to eat, this is the place to go. The atmosphere is very nice. The bartender Walter he was on his A game. He was very attentive and friendly. Stop by and thank me later.
I was very disappointed in my recent visit to the Big Easy. I’d only eaten here once before, but thought the food was great! I decided to have a birthday dinner for my daughter here. The AC was not working, and we were seated literally right next to the door, which they had opened the entire time (in 90+ degree weather, nonetheless). Okay, fine. We were seated immediately, and placed our orders. Half of the tables’ food came out about 20 minutes before the other half got theirs. There were items missing from what we ordered. The waiter seemed anxious, or scared, or something but ultimately was not very attentive to our table. The food was overall good this second go around, a 7/10 if I had to put a number to It, but based off the service alone, my guests and I will never return. As stated, we were celebrating my daughters birthday and no one inquired why we were celebrating or even offered dessert. And they had the nerve to charge 18% gratuity on top of any additional tips… There were random loiterers in and out of the restaurant as well which I didn’t particularly care for as It didn’t make me feel safe. All in all, if you DO decide to eat here, order online. Save yourself the time and money because it’s not at all worth an in person visit.
The atmosphere is very loud. Not a place that you can have a conversation over lunch or dinner. Our waitress was very sweet however we never got refills on any of our drinks and none of our food came out together. My brother ordered the brownie and ice cream for dessert and his ice cream was completely melted when they brought it to him. I ordered the ribs which I do not recommend but the alligator bites were ok just too salty. One person at our table didn’t even get their food until it was time to leave and everyone else had ate their food. Seems like a very chaotic staff and definitely no team work amongst them because I cannot understand why we were a party of 12 and not even the manager offered a helping hand to our waitress to ensure we received good service and that everyone received their meals in a timely manner together.
I been here twice, so I graded based on both experiences. The food the first time was very delicious, the second time around it was OK. I dont know if it was because the AC was not working or what. The atmosphere is nice with the live band, but as mentioned before, the AC was not working, and it was extremely hot inside. The service has been excellent both times. I recommend this spot, and I will be returning again to try the alligator bites.
Looking for a nice place in Raleigh to swing by for lunch? Come here! I highly recommend it. There were many options from seafood to a simple grilled cheese! I personally recommend the crab cake sandwich. You think your life was complete? No. It isnt, until you try this sandwich. I forgot the sauce on it, but it can be a bit strong and overwhelming, so I recommend eating the sandwich with the lettuce and the sauce, or just no sauce if your not into overpowering flavors. Anyways, the interior is extremely nice, with a very rustic vibe going, and not to mention the bar. I cant drink alcohol, but if you can, there is a place to do it whilst chomping down on your delicious food! There are many seats and the restrooms are very cleanly as well. I highly recommend this to anybody! Also. The fries are heavenly. 🙏🏻👌🏼
Authentic Cajun and creole food that makes you feel like you are in a cafe on Burbon Street in New Orleans. Staff was super friendly, helpful and always smiling. Atmosphere was lively but not so much you couldnt hold conversations across the table. The food came out quickly and was fresh and full of NOLA flavor! Reasonable pricing and large portions make this an easy choice for a night out. Can not recommend more highly!
This was a rare find in Raliegh NC. While we were at GalaxyCon, we were walking around downtown tying to find somewhere to eat. Google found it for us and I cant say Im disappointed. I had their Cajun pasta with shrimp... DELICIOUS! And my husband had the Jambalaya... hes says it was awesome! We both had the crab cake appetizer and I must say, from a person who is not normally a crab fan, it was mighty tasty. It has a little out-of-the-way small pub feel, and the staff were very friendly. Price was standard, nothing too high though. All in all, Id definitely recommend.
Three generations of family walked in off the street for lunch the end of December. The children were happy with the menu and every order was delicious. Perfect casual atmosphere and fine spicy cooking.
What a huge disappointment! I hardly know where to begin - poor or should I say nonexistent service, bland food, small servings, and ludicrously high prices! Picture this: after waiting for 30 minutes everyone in your party is served EXCEPT one person. Server says she is going back for her plate and never returns. Everyone waits until their food gets cold and then in desperation shares it with the forgotten guest. Eventually you are able to flag down your server who says she will check on the food. She walks around and doesn’t bother to let you know anything. Eventually the food is brought and when you inquire you are told, in a rude tone, that the food had to be remade because she found a hair in it! She pauses, seemingly waiting for you to thank her for noticing the hair, when all the everyone in your party is wondering how many hairs they already swallowed! Yuck! In a final bizarre twist your server storms out of the restaurant, seemingly quitting or being fired on the spot!! Never fear, though, the hostess brings your bill - no adjustment for the late meal - $85 for your trouble. Stay away from the Big Easy, if you are craving Cajun you’d be better off at Popeyes Chicken!
Great team work!!! Have not been in a restaurant for a long while and to see ALL the servers and I mean ALL servers working TOGETHER. Amazing!!!
@lex was great, great service & reasonable price food & it was great as well
For some reason I got to thinking about some places I use to work at in down town Raleigh a good 15 years ago or so. Read some of the reviews here just you know for the heck of it. Honestly if reviews were as popular all those years ago I would have done this sooner. Most bad reviews are about the service they receive. Well I will shed a little light on that as a prior employee. Back then the owner and management both over worked all of us. Did not give us ample breaks etc. Didnt treat us very well either. Some of us had schedule restrictions that were promised at hire but were never honored and they would make you feel like you show up any way or you wont have a job to come back to. Imagine how that can effect their staff. The servers didnt really mesh well together but thats cause and effect for you. Most restaurants the staff are a close nitch and every one always helped each other with out hesitation. But not here. If youre looking for a place to wind down at the bar and enjoy some appetizers youre in the right spot however they cant really handle the capacity of a full house in the Kitchen which is very small hence your wait times for your food. In other words, go if you have a few hours on your hands but never if youre in a rush. The food is good but definitely isnt for every one. But also be kind to your servers as they do hold a lot of stress working there.
The Big Easy Restaurant and Bar offer several delicious Cajun dishes including ingredients such as alligator, crawfish, and jambalaya. They have a good bar that serves a good selection for both beer and mixed drinks.Do not skip dessert. The bananas foster absolutely a nice treat and one of the best desserts you can get in downtown Raleigh. The portions are big so feel free to share (including the dessert). The only drawback for me was the wait-staff who seemed unorganized and frazzled. They were nice but forgot about some drinks we ordered or we had to wait a long while for our meal. Its still a fun restaurant that I would recommend trying out.
Great time here. The shrimp & grits were yummy but a little too much salt.
I don’t usually leave reviews but I had to take the time to come here and really elaborate on my dissatisfaction with my experience at this restaurant. The most disappointing part was the customer service, our server specifically wasn’t “bad” but she wasn’t great either. it was a bigger party so I can understand not being able to attend to all of us as easily as if it was a party of 3/4. The main problem came from who I’m assuming was the host/server, she continued to come to our party and make snarky remarks, which was totally uncalled for bc she was not our server, she didn’t take an order, she didn’t bring out a plate or drink, she did NOTHING to improve the quality of our service; she was just on a mission to come and make comments to and about us… the food left us very unsatisfied. We’ve been to New Orleans and to call it “New Orleans cuisine” is actually laughable, the only thing I’d eat again was the wings, none of the mains were worth the time the cooks took to prepare it or the money we spent. We came on a Friday, and they have a DJ and karaoke, since we were a party of 16 we sat in the very back of the establishment, there were no speakers in the back so we could barely hear the music.. all around it wasn’t the ambience or service we were hoping for, I wouldn’t recommend this place to anyone but maybe it was just a bad night, I personally won’t be back.
We stopped in after arriving in Raleigh for the weekend. Food was delicious! 10/10 and we will be back!
Came for dinner and I was more disappointed with the smoosh shrimp in the jambalaya and dry alligator bites that were not hot when they came out. Ordered the blueberry bourbon lemonade and it was disgusting. They had a DJ, but the sound was extremely loud. The server was the best experience we had at this place. My husband had the seafood platter blackened catfish and he was disappointed with his entree.Nice place but they need to work on the food and drinks.
I will first say the atmosphere is pleasent. I was seated promptly. Now the bad, been waiting for 45 minutes to place an order. No server ever came by my table. The manager however did bring out a late night menu. I guess im suppose to appetize on that, seeing the couple behind me placed their order an hour ago and still havent gotten thier food. On a bright note, the water is delish.
Stunning experience. Great vibe. Even better food. Gordon Ramsay would compliment this place!
Unfortunately, my boyfriend and I were very disappointed with the overall experience at this restaurant. We are both Louisiana natives, specifically New Orleans and Baton Rouge. We were excited to hear about this restaurant, hoping for a little taste of home. However, the food was barely edible. I tried to start with the crab dip, but I immediately had to send it back. It tasted like the “crab” was old and freezer burnt. Additionally, the taste of Louisiana was disrespectful compared to what it was trying to emulate. The jambalaya pasta was also bland. At the end of it all, we barely touched our food and had to leave to eat somewhere else. If you are looking for Louisiana cuisine, please do not go here.
First time ever here for me. Im in Raleigh for a convention. I live in Greensboro but Id drive back just to eat at this restaurant.
Delicious food from start to finish! Highly recommend the gator bites, cheese fritters, and the catfish platter. Great service too, both from the bar and my server. Also a really good karaoke night on Fridays
I really like the Big Easy. I have been in a couple of times with my friends over the past few weeks, and it just keeps getting better. The staff is attentive and the food and cocktails are awesome. I love the NOLA vibes and the art is beautiful. Can’t wait to go back for karaoke Friday!
Because I have been here multiple times over the years I am giving it an average 3 star rating. Prior to covid, the food has always been great and the service was above average.Even after covid and returning back to raleigh, I would say the same. I have had two amazing experiences. However, last night (Saturday November 25th) was terrible. The bartender (i didnt quite catch his name) was incredibly rude when it came time to close out and even poured a beer out and threatned to call the cops because THEIR payment machine wasnt working and I had no other way of paying.Overall, Big easy is usually great but whoever this bartender was definitely needs to remember hospitality. All this drama over a $7 beer.
Seafood platter was awesome! Even though my table didnt receive our food for almost an hour. Service received from our waiter was mediocre, at best. He rarely checked on us to see if we needed anything. And once he did, we believe he disappeared in the back to avoid us. The Big Easy, please hire staff that actually cares about their job.
Honestly, the Big Easy should be rechristened the Big Disappointment. I had always heard REALLY good things about this restaurant. but on Thursday last week it was so disappointing that me and my dinner companion called it quits after one round of drinks and a not impressive appetizer. Slow bar service (it was NOT busy). Sticky table. Unimpressive app. really disappointing. And the bill was over $30, for one cocktail, one draft beer special, and one order of fried green tomatoes app. Silliness. never again.did I mention the nasty stale bar/garbage stench that permeated the dining room?um no. not unless youre looking for overpriced late night drunken bar food options maybe.
I went to eat at The Big Easy, and the food was absolutely delicious. Someone kiss the cook 🍳 The waiters and waitresses were on point. They seemed like a team that collaborated and communicated very well with one another from what I could tell. However, the waitress Bella stood out the most to me. She seemed to be very efficient and knowledgeable as well as able to provide great customer service. Initially coming in she quickly seated me and took my drink and food order. For whatever reason, the manager decided to switch her to another table. What was impressive was her ability to still put the order in and shift to helping out a party of 25 and quickly getting their drinks out. She also worked a table behind me and was extremely attentive to the customers. The one thing I was not crazy about was having the conversation about the change in front of a customer. She should have been pulled aside to discuss that and then allowed to come and mention the change to me after. Nonetheless, she handled it as someone with natural leadership abilities would and kept going. And kudos to the individual who diligently jumped in and came to handle my table for the rest of the evening. He, too, provided great service and was extremely pleasant. Great team, all around. Also appreciated the music played this day! Thanks for all you all do!
Great atmosphere and food! Had the alligator bites and chicken & sausage gumbo ... very tasty and just the right amount of spice. Most of all, outstanding service from our server Katie! Very attentive and even played along with my corny dad jokes the entire team was focused on making sure our table felt special! Great experience 👍
The food was decent, not great, the restroom( mens) was filthy to the point of better off using an alley. The restaurant was filthy, every step you stuck to the floor. But our server Amanda was amazing. Couldnt ask for a nicer, more professional server even if you are eating in a 5 ⭐ restaurant. She made the experience enjoyable and pleasant. Make sure to sit in an area were she is able to be your server. This Big Easy is very fortunate to have her. She exemplifies service with a 😊.
Great staff and excellent food. Very handsome door man not the regular guy. The staff doesnt allow unruly guests and keep the place in good spirits. New staff is a great addition
Wonderful experience with very authentic Cajun and Creole style food. The alligator bites were tender and well seasoned, the seafood gumbo was full of seafood and silky, the crab cakes were huge, and even our picky 14 year old loved the fries and chicken tenders. Service was a little slow, but it was worth it to wait.
The food was amazing. So many choices with authentic Cajun flavors. I will definitely eat here over and over. Goid atmosphere, nice art in the walls, good selections at the bar.
This was an utter disappointment. I and my family choose to eat here based on the reviews. The food is utterly bland. The service is non-existent. The atmosphere is alright. Only 3/4th of our food made it to our table. After 15mins, I found the waiter. She said she would check. She went back, and came back out. We all watched her walk towards us then turn off to an empty table. I shared with my wife my food. Eventually another waiter arrived with the food. Then our waiter appeared to say the food was delayed because a hair was found it. Could she not have mentioned that 30mins ago? I should add though it’s petty, drink refills were not a thing. Until we complained to a manager. At which point our waiter stormed out the front door and did not come back. No explanation was given of any of this to us. And we were charged full price. If there had been any attempt to reconcile this with us I would not be writing this review. Instead I’m $85 bucks poorer and still gingery. Oh did I forget to mention a $18 etouffee is about the size of a frozen microwave meal….
Pretty mediocre overall. Everything on the menu was pretty much deep fried and overly salted. Also, the area gets kind of sketchy after dark. A lot of homeless people congregate around and does feel safe. Definitely a dive and probably better just for getting drinks and not for food.
So thought Id posted my pics and review, didnt realize I hadnt till I was telling a co worker about this place. The food was awesome. I had the stuffed shrimp with spinach and gumbo. It was enough for 2 people so we shared!! It was Feb 2014 but it was so good I can still remember everthing. The food the vibe....it was all great!
This used to be one of my favorites. Unfortunately, the quality and service has declined quickly. Went for lunch yesterday and stood at the front door for 5 min before being noticed. The place wasnt even busy. Finally someone sat us and then waited 10 min before someone came to get our drink order. We had talked about leaving during that time and I wish we would have. When someone finally came over, we ordered drinks and appetizers. Took forever for our drinks to arrive as well as the apps so we placed our order when the apps arrived. The fried oysters were good, the crab dip was cold and looked crusty like it had been reheated multiple times. My husband also had some alligator bites and said they tasted off. I then noticed the 94.5 sanitation score. We didnt even eat our entrees because after one bite, it tasted like the crawfish were bad. We paid our $100 bill and left. Not long after, my husband got sick (he ate more than me) and I had a terrible stomach ache. Needless to say, we will not be back.
Ok the atmosphere great, the vibe and everything was cool. I ordered the Jambalaya, and no. It was not good at all! My fiancé ordered the taste of Louisiana he also did not like his food. My daughter had the salmon La Fayette with the garlic green beans, she loved the green beans that’s about it. My fiancé told my server and she responded with “Aw I’m sorry” lol. Oh, the alligator bites tasted good, and the pimiento cheese fritters! I personally wouldn’t recommend this place to anyone I know. That’s just my opinion.
Avoid this place. The food was mediocre and the service was nearly non-existant. The place was half empty and yet it took forever to get our food. When we did get it, one member of our party was not served her meal. Rather than address this issue, our sever ghosted us. We eventually asked another server who wandered by our table for the missing entre. The lost meal showed up long after the others in our party had eaten their food. We were told the problem was that the original meal had a hair in it and they had to remake the plate. It was about that time when our original server stormed angrily out the front door, apparently quiting on the spot. So that was different. How was the chow? My Jambalaya was supposed to have sausage, chicken, ham and vegetables. It had sausage, three tiny peices of chicken (think Stauffer pot pie size), no ham, and two one-inch long peices of celery. Apparently, the celery constituted the vegetables. This was $16.00. It was spiced well, Ill give them that.
It’s a big restaurant offering Southern-style cuisine. Not the tastiest, but ok. I went in for lunch and tried their three most iconic plates and fried alligator. The food was nice, although I wasn’t incredibly impressed.
Interesting venue and well worth a visit. The food was great, as well as the service. I loved the interior of the restaurant.A great added touch was the hands-on interaction of who I presumed to be the manager and/or owner making sure all his patrons were happy and well looked after.
My dad had a party there last night (30 ppl). The staff was unprofessional looking, give City Girl vibes with skittle hair colors, manager Abby had her midsection showing. When asked about the slow service, she got on the defense, NO apology, just straight attitude. No communication with staff. This is not a place for those who want to spend their hard earned money just to be met with ghetto attitudes and slow service.
Big Easy hosted our company holiday party. Gilbert the GM was such a joy to work with. His communication was superb and his attention to detail to make sure our event was perfect did not go unnoticed. Everything went like clockwork and the staff were so attentive and friendly. The food was absolutely delicious (I could have eaten my weight in the crab cakes and beignets) and the drink menu (Pineapple Dragon Fruit - is my new favorite cocktail of all time!) is diverse with something for everyone. I can’t wait to go back for dinner and drinks and am actively looking for reasons to host another event with them!
The dining experience was really ghetto and disturbing 😳We spent $100……we were eager to have dessert but didn’t because we had to box up our food, pay quickly and leave not knowing if the different scenarios were going to escalate. Will not be back! Oh be sure to lock your car doors because we witnessed park cars being broken into…………no happy at all with my overall experience.
The food was wonderful, but the service was TERRIBLE.We came here on Saturday, surprised to see it wasnt very busy. We were sat at an open table. Someone came quickly with menus and said shed come back with waters. 10 minutes later she returned without our drinks. Long story short, we were there for 25 minutes before our server even took our order. We were in a hurry, so we had to order to-go. After 45 minutes total of being at our table, we received our take-out bags. When we opened our take-out bags at a conference we were at, we were pleasantly surprised by how delicious our food was. The Shrimp and Grits was probably the best weve ever had, and the Turkey and Avocado Melt was delightful.Im sad our experience was far from pleasant, but the food was wonderful. When were in town again, it might be worth trying again just for those dishes!
Like the atmosphere. Typical bar feel. Food was just ok for Creole/Cajun given the fact we are out here in NC and not the Bayou. My husband had the fried catfish and that was great. Definitely loved the brownie dessert. We also sat at our table for over 15 minutes before anyone even acknowledged we were there. Louis ended up checking on us. Apparently our assigned waiter had disappeared so he took over. Louis was great! Very attentive and apologetic for the wait etc. Thank you Louis for excellent service!
Horrible experience!!! Sat unattended at our table for 20 minutes. When asked nobody could tell us who our waiter was. Ordered food that was disgusting. The crab cakes were horrible and the Taste of Louisiana was extremely salty! Never again!
