This is my favorite queer bar in Richmond, VA. It is nestled right in the Forest Hill neighborhood next to Crossroads Coffee & Ice Cream. The staff makes this place feel like home, not to mention their menu is basically comfort food. Friday night draws in eclectic crowds to keep you intrigued, and if that wasnt enough its karaoke night too! This place has it all though, from various themed Saturday nights throughout the month to weekly events. So you arent a weekender? Thats cool. On Tuesdays they have game nights on one side and Bring Your Own Vinyl on the other! Trust that this place has a little bit of magic for everyone who is a part of the community. Im proud to join in on the magic that truly makes this world shine brighter ✨️ Love, a satisfied customer, member of the community, and life-long friend 💖
My absolute favorite bar in Richmond. The owners are great people, the patrons are very friendly, and they have a variety of different themes and entertainment to keep you coming backDrag shows, karaoke, theme nights, and vinyl nights all bring a variety of people in. You’d be hard pressed to find a day that doesn’t appeal to you.Be warned, the drinks are strong. That’s a good thing but it’s something that you need to know before coming here.
Soo this place is pretty cool but visiting and it’s 1150PM .. they are doing Karoke . Requested to sing and evidently they are not taking anymore singers .. cool. .. and I guesss understandable .. however the degree that the Karoke host goes to wave his wands and declare “ no no no no “Is a little over the top. Reel it in a bit professor Slughorn
This is my FAVORITE bar! the small size makes it feel so cozy and safe and everyone is super friendly. there’s even a game room away from everything where you can chill and talk. the patio area is gorgeous and overall this place is an awesome time!
Must have went on the wrong day. I was just looking for a place to have a drink since moving back to VA. Stumbled into what I later found was a private party. I mean….instead of someone just politely letting my friends and I know(cuz we didn’t know the sign said open 🙃) Which I would have been fine with. I was hesitantly served after….. being ignored I guess she thought I was just gonna walk away😂😂 and awkwardly welcomed at the same time. Maybe I’ll try again but I’m not too pressed. Maybe your crowd though.
One of the few spaces in RVA that has regular rotating events that cater to the alternative LGBT+ community. I really appreciate Cameron for everything he’s built here. I always feel welcome and safe here.
So much fun! Our first time in we had anticipated one drink each and leaving.. That didnt happen due to the awesome and upbeat environment! After we both had multiple drinks and a few appetizers, we left three hours later! They also had Kareoke going on and there was never a dull moment. Great staff and just as welcoming regulars.. We will def be back! Thank you for a great time Thirstys!
I think the aesthetic is Bourbon Street dive bar. They use folding tables and chairs for lunchtime, so its definitely not the best scene if youre looking for a touch of elegance with your meal, but the jambalaya was good with a touch of Cajun heat (I personally would like a bit more of the meats, but it was okay) and the side of fries with garlic and rosemary was a generous basket with lots of seasoning. My friend got a bourbon chicken poboy which she enjoyed. It wasnt so overstuffed that she couldnt pick it up, which she appreciated. The beer selection is varied and fun, and we loved the eclectic music selection that was playing.
Traveling from SC for a week of drag gigs. It’s my second time here and both times I’ve been welcomed in with fantastic food and drinks and amazing crowds and staff. Great folks!
First time here, I definitely recommended spraying and cleaning down your outside seating area there is a lot of spiders and bugs. Secondly the beignets were definitely terrible... The crawfish dip would definitely be better with regular tortillas chips than Doritos there whole menu and food is definitely cheaply made.
More like Dehydrated!!! Don’t waste your time here unless they know you. Because they will ignore you like you’re not even there. I know from experience. Smh
Very nice staff, the food is excellent, especially the alligator burger! The owner is awesome and always onsite. The staff is friendly and you are treated like a regular the second you walk into the bar. They have a full kitchen and the online juke box is always playing something good!! Oh and the blueberry mimosa is awesome!!! Check it out!
I love this place!!! BEST LGBT spot in rva! Its so fun here and it’s very safe :))
Pimento cheese isnt supposed to be intentionally melted into queso and served with mushy bread. Bartenders should care when customers wait an absurd amount of time for an appetizer that is just...gross and the customer expresses their dislike of the dish and ask it to be taken away without eating it. Bartenders should also stop serving belligerently drunk women who are falling on other customers at 630 on a Wednesday.
Never had to wait no longer than 1 minute to get a drink. Staff great. They should post online the weekly events. Id go more often
Great place for a variety of queer places, love their boardgame nights!
I had an amazing time personally, the staff were friendly and easy to talk to. The drinks were great and the food was terrific. I’m not a very adventurous eater but the pasta I had was a good choice. They have video games available to play and the atmosphere is pretty chill/laid back. If I could give them more stars I would!
Overall great neighborhood bar. From a happy hour until late night, I have always had fun. Reasonable prices, and outdoor patio. Service is polite. Owners are great.
The staff is always friendly and amazing. The mozz sticks and sauce are really delicious, havent tried any other food yet (we go for the drinks ;) I really appreciate the patio since Im still kinda hesitant to be indoors with groups of people. Definitely a great place to kick back after work and feel safe and comfortable.
Its not going to be everyones cup of tea. But I loved it! We went on Fat Tuesday, and they had a drag show and great drink specials. We had already eaten, so I cant comment on the food. It was packed, so understandably, service was a tad slow. The staff were are friendly, and the dancers were really good, funny too. I know not everyone is a fan of drag shows, but I personally love them. This was my first time there, but I would go again. I dont go to bars very often, and I tend to like smaller bars, so this was my cup of tea. They also have a nice outdoor patio area with corn hole, heaters, etc.
I found this place by happy accident. A friend and I were just looking for a happy hour before meeting other friends for dinner. What we found were fantastic drinks, delicious appetizers, and a great vibe. This may have been my first visit but it certainly wont be my last.
Lots of regular events. Welcoming space. Strong drinks.
Sad to say this Food is no longer the best Cajun food in Richmond! We were all set to enjoy fabulous Cajun food but soon realized that this would not be the case The chef has left and nothing is the same. The best Cajun food has turned into salty gator bites from the best gator bites. The owner said well you ate them, my reply was we were hungry, it took over a half an hour - 45 minutes to get our appetizer and they were not busy. Hardly anything else Cajun in on the menu anymore. Once what was great food has turned into typical bar food. Sorry to see this place go down hill, we will not be back. Wish I knew where the chef went to. When the owner saw my review, he told us quite loudly and rudely to leave. Which wasnt an issue, I had already paid the bill.
Thirstys is a great dive bar great prices staff and atmosphere give it a try. The bar staff is great and the food is pretty tasty “loaded tater tots or fry’s is my go to” the trash can is great too nice pours and a good value give it a try you won’t be let down!
This is THE place in Forest Hill. We live three blocks away and weve been waiting for somewhere just like this. The food is incredible. Affordable apps if you wanna stop in just to unwind from work. Plenty of great dinner options, all Cajun style with the perfect amount of spice. They have happy hour 3-8, great music choice and the atmosphere is relaxed . I dont leave reviews unless I can give 5 stars and this place deserves every one. The owner and bartender are super nice, I really hope this place makes it. Could be a great spot to hang in summer with their outdoor patio area. And did I mention they stay open until midnight?! A great place to celebrate going into work late for a snow day.
It’s a nice little gay bar in Richmond. It’s right next to a busy road so outside I always feel like one bad drunk driver (from the club!) could plow into that patio and I’m dead. It’s crowd leans old.
My besties brothers bar and I would have expected nothing less, funky and fun! Seems like a hoppin place and they even have some tasty late night munchies. Have to go try a 🍤 Po Boy some time since its also New Orleans themed which I did not know until arrival.
The best drag in Richmond IMHO every Wednesday night at 9:30 hosted by Richmonds most important queen Chicki Parm. Cheap drinks, great food, great bar staff, fun crowd. Theres a different crowd for different theme nights but its always a good time.
Attended 1st Sunday on 1/6/19 and it was an awesome experience. Great staff, fast and friendly service and a cozy atmosphere. The patio and deck were truly my favorite spots. I’m definitely goin to visit again real soon. Keep up the great work. ❤️👍🏿😂
Great neighborhood bar - this is the style of bar where you can just relax and gave a beer or two with some great people. I was in the main bar area only during my visit but the place gives you a low-key bar atmosphere, similar to the one in cheers, the staff really appears to know theyre regulars by first name which was impressive - the food was good, I got appetizers so couldnt vote one way or another on their main meals. If you go for the crawfish queso dip then I would recommend it with the Doritos, one of the members at the bar had mentioned it and bought me a couple of chips to try it, well worth it - the alligator bites are amazing!
I had an amazing experience here last night. The food was fantastic an very fairly priced. They have a happy hour everyday and the staff treated me like family even though it was my frist time here. I will most definitely be coming back soon.
I really want to like Thirstys, I live nearby and love the spot, but after going tonight I wasnt pleased. We quickly got our orders taken after sitting down even though there was a good crowd but the initial drinks took a good bit to come out. We then ordered food and didnt see our waitress for another 35 minutes. After seeing her again we ordered another round of drinks which then came out another 20 minutes later and our food was soon after. Waiting an hour for a burger and tater tots seems long, especially since its not a large place. The tots were great but the burger was cooked well done, they never asked how to cook it and that was a surprise.Ill try again in a few weeks and hopefully they have their service and cooking down, Ill update the review then. I hope things change because I want to like Thirstys and want to come back often.
Come for the drinks, not the food. Service for food is usually quite slow. The drinks are amazing though and not too expensive. Wednesday drag shows are cute. And they have karaoke some other night of the week.
Very nice staff, atmosphere was nice. Alligator bites were very good though the portion was small for the price. Wife and I had the Creole Crawfish pasta bowl, which had a little to no crawfish. The taste just wasnt there, waiter brought us a side of old bay seasoning for us because the food was so bland.
The service was good, but the food was an incredible disappointment. Tacos were indistinguishable from Taco Bell, and the drinks were inconsistent. My margarita was super salty, my wifes was sweet. There are so many better places within walking distance, I wont be back here.
Very very friendly! Great people, Great Cajun food, easy going atmosphere. Its my new pop in spot for their King Martini and Alligator macaroni & Cheese dish!!
I paid $44 for a worthless meal through DoorDash. The food is not good. Etouffe very bland. Definitely not New Orleans style. The rice and beans arrived cold. 7 gator bites for $12. I called and spoke to a manager who hung up on me. Very sad addition to the neighborhood. Everyone, take your food delivery needs elsewhere.
Had my car towed from their parking lot as I sat in their restaurant eating for two hours. According to the owner they aren’t getting along with their neighboring businesses (both great places) and so they have hired guys to watch their lots and call in tows. They managed to miss seeing me physically park my car, get out, and walk inside and eat for two hours in their business. Not to mention my sister drove up and parked next to me and walked in with me and her car was not towed. The owner was completely shady about it, gave half answers, accused me of going to Crossroads even after his own waiter confirmed I had been inside eating for the past two hours. Then eventually he said he was “making it up to me by having them bring my car back.” The car he stole. Oh how kind of him.He then went back inside and hung out at the bar while I waited outside for my car to be returned. After it never shows, I go find him and ask him where my car is. He calls the tow guy again and says he’ll be here in 5mins. - not true. Tow guy eventually shows up without my car. 30 min. later, I get my car by driving with my sister to the tow-truck lot. The tow truck driver sees me arrive and starts to drive off. I stop him and ask for paperwork and he says he doesn’t have to give me anything and drives off. Left me in front of his business without even checking the car out. UNBELIEVABLE!Worst $20 meal I have ever had. And the lame, super callous owner didn’t even offer to reimburse me that! This place is just not cool. The neighboring businesses are where it’s at. The nice waiter should go work for them instead. I was born and raised in Louisiana and this owner’s attempt at cultural appropriation is a far cry from the actual warm, loving and fun culture of the Cajun people.
Love this place, the people, the decor, the theme & the drink specials! I went in there to see what they offered as far as a bar offered after having to get my bike repaired at the shop nearby & found it had a few things to offer in food & drinks & atmosphere & people. Unfortunately it was a lil pricey & to early for other patrons to be there but Rey is great & so is the new bartender! She will be a great new addition to thier family!:)But like I said the menu could be a lil less pricey like the Po-Boy is a sandwich created to be cheap from N.O. So why would it be 8 bucks or more in a N.O. Bar oriented bar!!!? Or a burger 8 bucks when you can go get a burger at other bars for 5 bucks and appetizers 5 bucks with pitchers& with pool tables & darts and bands at other places. But as I started to say! Love everything for the most part about this bar & since Im a newcomer hopefully I can build a Better repertoire with this business to keep coming back after a few more visits! Because as I started; I do love the idea of loving this place as a good hangout spot & good place to chill over this hot summer season & there after!
Cold, Dark and Limited. We are locals and wanted to try out their Sunday brunch. Aside from it being an exceptionally cold day, the inside felt colder. I know they just opened but i would recommend that focusing on some basic stuff before opening up for brunch. Here is our take.- Very limited brunch menu, really no kid friendly option (it would be nice if they had kid friendly cups...like plastic vs. glass)- The beignets were good but all were not thoroughly cooked so in the middle was raw dough, I told the manager this as we left.- The pimento cheese was good but served with cheap bread that crumbled in your hands.- The decor is not good in my opionion, it is very dark and uninviting. We went to New Orleans last year and loved it, this place has none of the warmth and community feel that you would find at a local new orleans place eatery- The mop and bucket were left out so I basically sat there and looked it the entire timeAnd lastly the TV was playing Saved by the Bell, I love revisiting my youth but if this place is suppose bring you to new orleans can either the music or video reflect it.For now I would avoid until they have worked out the kinds
So happy I got to bring my sister in law here for her 21rst birthday! Steven was an awesome bartender! We will make this an annual stop since we love 2 hours away. Will be recomending and keep up the great work!!
The best pimento cheese I have ever had! We also stuck around for karaoke and had a blast. The atmosphere is fun and the people are friendly. Love it!
Great night meeting old friends and making new ones. Had a ball (or two), it was nutz. Lots to see and do... ! Great DJ
First time last night to meet up with a friend and met the most kind cool down to earth people in there. Everyone laughing and being sociable with each other made the environment that more comfortable. To top it off the bartender ROCKS!!!!!!! Excellent service!
I had so much fun here at karaoke night! Great local crowd, and the bartenders are so nice, and happy hour specials are incredible. Cool n’awlins vibes and good Cajun food. I plan to return here again!
Yoooooooo, this place has one of the best jambalayas I have ever had. I am not joking. The only time I was able to actually get some was when I went there at 3 when they open. Every time I go later in the evening they are out. Im not surprised though cause that stuff is FIRE. If you ever get the chance to feast upon this God like meal I would suggest buying some to go and hitting me up so I can buy it from you. Thank you in advance. I need it.
High marks for the fun and inclusive environment and great DJs. Decent beer selection and some interesting cocktails, some not so great. Food is pretty basic bar food. Hoping they can up their game on the food and cocktails.
Very good food! Its hard to find Louisiana cooking done right anywhere in Va. There are enough options on the menu for everyone to find something they like. We were not disappointed.
I didn’t even want to put one star here but that was the only way I can write a review this is a zero star diner. worst diner ever me and my 2 friends went in there to eat around 2 am the waitresses were all trashy and rude we sat ourselves. Than we finally got to order our food me and one of my friends got French toast with eggs and bacon and her husband got an Italian sausage with fries. The Fries were white didn’t even look cooked so he decided to try to bite into the sausage and it was raw. We told the waitress the sausage was not cooked all the way and he said he just wants his bill, So we waited and waited and next thing you know another customer was looking towards the kitchen and the cook back there was licking his fingers. Half the waitresses were drunk and so was ours. Instead of bringing the bill back she brought back the sausage that he bit off and she said she just threw it in the deep fryer after that we got instantly sick and I went to the bathroom vomit was all on the floor Then my friends wife approach the waitress in regards to her bringing back him the same sausage he bit off of in the same plate with the cold fries and the same ketchup he put on it. Only thing she could say is you said it wasn’t cooked all the way so the other waitress stepped in and said the bill was on her and I said no the health department is on y’all the worst experience ever and we all woke up sick and food poisoning the eggs must’ve got us but the sausage got him just disgusting this place needs to be shut down
Good selection. Next time I am getting a $1 natty light. Awesome they do karaoke. I thought the nachos lacked chips. Add more chips and toppings a little weak.
Staff super friendly and wonderful environment. We couldn’t eat our meals though. Salt salt salt. We all tried to eat additional bites thinking it was just a first bite issue. It’s called Thirsty’s for a reason! We had to leave our meals.
The happy hour drink specials are great, and the craft cocktails are done right! the cajun chicken wings with a can of pbr cant go wrong! the service is super friendly.
Our first time there. Service was great and the food tasted very good. We will visit again soon to try something else on the menu since we went knowing what we wanted to get and didnt order anything else.
Leather night was pretty cool ran into some old friends from eons ago... great spot!
Daniel behind the bar is great, and he also cooks the food and says he helped pick the year round menu. Anything you try will be great! Good selections of IPAs
I was passing by and I saw Cajun and creole and I had to stop in. I was craving Gator bites and sure enough they had them. I sat at the bar and had one of their Gator Brews which is their proprietary pilsner and very refreshing. The gator bites came out quickly and perfectly cooked with a sauce that reflected New Orleans well. The bartender was authentically friendly and the patrons sitting along the bar surrounded by Mardi gras accoutrement were as friendly as be could be and we had a great conversation. I definitely want to come back on Friday for karaoke and also to try more of the items on this menu. The French quarter is nowhere around, but this little slice of New Orleans will help you Laissez les bons temps rouler!
Food was pretty bad over cooked jambalaya. Flavorless gumbo bland shrimp po boy. Very disappointed. Bignet’s were good. I’ll b back in a month. Hope they pull it together. Great location.
Absolutely delightful staff and the chef is fantastic!! Great ettouffee, crawfish queso, TASTY flavorful bright pizza, great happy hour til 8PM, and overall great experience every time I go.
Great bar, staff made me feel like a regular from day 1. LGBTQ safe space for sure as others have said.
My husband and I were in RVA from out of town and stumbled upon this great place.Great hospitality from the owners! Great vibe and awesome place. Made us feel very welcomed.
I found this place by accident, and loved it. I was in for brunch and tried their ham and cheese omelet. The omelet was perfect (light and fluffy) with smoked cheddar cheese and black forest ham. Ill go back.
Extremely fun, extremely inclusive 10/10 bar. Amazing drag shows every Wednesday!!! Owners are gems.
Very disapointed poboysTasteless not real New Orleans flavor. Not even real imitation.Popeyes Po boys are much better flavorNot coming back we are very disapointed sorry for the review but I still have the bad taste in my mouth
Inexpensive drinks, karaoke on Fridays.
Stop by for the first time to try the alligator bites. Waiting at the bar had a sho. Patrons very friendly and staff is great. Happy theyre in the neighborhood.
Awesome food! We love the cajun nachos. The drinks have very unique names and are pretty good.
Thirstys is home to delicious food, a relaxed environment, and excellent service. I have been twice now, and both experiences have been stellar. Finally something good has come of that building!
Outstanding atmosphere, popular music, great spot to have a drink and meet friendly people! If you dont get the banana foster bread pudding you are doing everything wrong!
In a location where almost all past ventures have failed. This lastest has got to up its game to come close to succeeding. Burger small and overdone, fries limp and cold, gumbo lacked sufficient meat, pimento cheese appetizer cold with plain white bread...
Rude. I will never step in this bar. Sketchy people standing outside of the bar mid-day laughing and mocking at people the owner asked to leave as they dared temporarily park in their Parking lot (empty anyway...) 5mins to pick up a coffee accros the Street. Sad. Pitiful.I wish i could post a review with zero star...
Steven served me and gave me the best Long Island made with love. He was a Euphoric personality and is SO fun to be around. He also takes his job seriously.
Love this place, great staff and I love all the alligator Cajun dishes. My husband and I adore this place, and the happy hour of 3-8 daily, is amazing!
I had Steven Wardell as my bartender and he was FANTASTIC! He is a hard worker and his knowledge for mixology is impressive and unique. I would recommend Steven to anyone!- Kayla
Made me feel like I was back home in Nola great bar atmosphere dont forget to try the zombie and the hurricane from Chef flavors from Nola a flavors Fine Foods authentic New Orleans cuisine
Very tasty fries and pretty good sandwiches. There was a weird thing at the end when the waiter was asked to split the bill, he didnt do it evenly.
I love the atmosphere, the drinks are amazing and affordable, and the staff is all very friendly with an amazing choice of Halloween costumes. lol 🧡🎃
Took about 20 mins to get water that we still never got , beines were not fully cooked, and it wasnt even busy for the food an service to have been that bad.... Besides us 3 there was literally only 1 other couple in there.
Both food & service was great. Thoroughly enjoyed talking with Steven, who was very passionate & knowledgeable about the restaurant. Will be back!
This place is fun and great food. I got the wings and fries. A great happy hour menu as well.
The food took forever and wasnt even good. The crab cakes had very little crab meat if any, and the server acted as if we were stupid when we asked a question. Will never go back!!
LOVE LOVE LOVE this place!! So much fun!!! Great bartenders, great people AT the bar. Coming back this weekend! Super fun!!
Great Cajun food,( lady nawlins put to shame) great service, going their you wouldnt think the food would be good ,but one of the best gumbos I have eaten since leaving the gulf coast will be going back !!!!
