First its now Aye Que Chulas2nd this place is gorgeous. I love the food, the music was great, the servers fabulous and super sweet. I had the Elotero Bowl which is Mexican corn with hot chettos on top and home fried tortilla chips. My friend ordered the loaded waffle fries which came topped with queso, bistec, pico de gallo, crema and guacamole. This place is perfect for good eats and fun times
We enjoyed the vibe and atmosphere. It wasnt too crowded or loud. We were able to sit and enjoy each other laughing and talking for a couple hours. The food was mediocre. The burger was the best thing we ordered. The boneless wings were very tough and had a lot of tendons through the chicken which made them very unpleasant. The southwest egg rolls are pretty much chili in an egg roll wrapper. The chips and salsa wasnt too bad. Our waitress was, ditzy to say the least. I think next time well go in the evening, especially a Friday night for their drag show!!
By far one of the best atmospheres that my wife and I have tried in the San Antonio area. Most of the food items were also on point, with the one exception of the onion rings. Fried lightly and crispy but not flavor and the southwest egg rolls were also a vit over done. All other items were delicious and they had live music during our visit. Definitely worth a stop for all my followers in the area
Great LGBT friendly spot. I want to leave five stars but the service is hit and miss. That said if your patience can relax the goods are usually worth the wait. Frozen Jack and Coke is a great way to wait. Bloody Marys help as well. The wings are good. the turkey burger is as well. We actually had a discussion about our favorite fries... These rate top notch. I would be happy coming here for fries and happy hour. They are crisp on the outside and soft on the inside just the way I like them.
On a random visit to the Strip, my girlfriend and I decided to go to Luther’s because we heard the loud music from across the street. There was a drag show going on and a lot of people were drinking on a Sunday afternoon. The show was great and the margaritas were awesome. Their food menu is limited but the burger was so good. There were LGBTQ friendly people and kids so it seems to be a family type place. Once the drag show was over, it got calmer with just food and drinks!
First time there. Ordered some burgers to go for the Fam. Fried mushrooms where decent. But the Burger was horrible. Was told by phone person the Burgers are cooked medium to medium well. My Burger was cooked to well, and looked charred on the ends. The burger was dry, had almost 0 taste, and didnt include the bacon I ordered. Also, all the lettuce and tomatoes and other condiments on the burger where clumped in a small pile on one side. Not good at all, Im sorry to say.
Luther’s cafe used to be a good tasty spot. Took my kiddo today and boy were we disappointed! Food tasted like it was left overs, gravy had film on it from the moment it was served. I poked a hole in the gravy with a fry it was hard! The Macaroni also used to be my fave from here and the order I got was cold and definitely left overs. Even the fries tasted like it was left overs. I will never go back. I spent 30 bucks for something we didnt eat! Dont go!! Save your money!
I had the fish and chips. the fish was pretty good. The homemade fries were excellent. The nachos were good and the plate was piled high. One of my dining companions had the Irish Stew which he said was underdone and did not eat much of it. The service was awful. The waiter acted as though he wanted to be anywhere but there, and seemed quite displeased that we were there. They lost the order of another of our group and didnt get her food out until we were all leaving. When she expressed her disappointment in having her order lost, the waiter became very upset and somewhat abusive. She left without her food. I seriously doubt any of us will return. San Antonio has way too many food/drink establishments to tolerate that kind of treatment.
They should rename this place The Empty Glass I I have been here at least 20 times. Revolving door of assistant managers and servers. The food and drinks are fine, the service is literally the worst I have ever encountered, and Ive almost never had the same server twice. Dear Luthers: please train your servers to acknowledge your guests and check back after food has hit the table. Its industry standard. Your sales will increase.
Honesty one of the Best Brunch Shows in town. The Host is hilarious Elizabitch. They have dinner shows on Friday in Saturdays also. The new casts of girls have been amazing to watch the past few times. Great drinks specials for brunch. The staff really comes alive once the shows begins. Strongly Recommend for everyone just looking for a great laugh.
Brunch Review! Please note that the brunch options may vary, i visited on 12/7 and had a pretty good brunch. This restaurant as been featured on the food network for its meatloaf burger so it may be familiar if you watch cooking shows. Its a great environment, if you show up early you can see a live jazz band and enjoy a build your own bloody Mary bar. Stick around and get some of their 2pm deals like drink and wing specials. Luthers Cafe is located in a busy area just a block from San Antonio College.I ordered the brunch burger (pictured at $13.95) and a bottle of champagne (12.95) which comes with its own ice bucket and a carafe of a juice of your choice.Be sure to ask about their desert menu which offers some pleasant surprises such as Oreo donuts and a cookie dough parfait to die for!
This place should be shut down for letting their staff drink on the job! It took nearly an hour to order and the restaurant was barely 25% occupied... The waiter with the long curly black hair was too busy playing with the radio and his phone to take our order or bring our drinks, we had to get up several times to get any service at all, how this fool has a job is beyond me. To top things off, walking inside to look for service, I counted 7 waiters standing around looking at their phones.
Luther’s Cafe sits on a vibrant corner in San Antonio’s midtown. It’s large roll up doors were open making for an easy (and breezy) indoor-outdoor vibe.Despite leaning prominently into its brand and history as “gay friendly” in its advertising there was absolutely nothing about the interior to distinguish it from any other comfy sport’s bar cafe complete with license plates on the wall and college football on the frequent TV screens (well except for the rainbow Budweiser sign.)The stage inside suggested that the atmosphere would be significantly different if you knew the right times to show up.My project has started to get popular with my family, so I took my dad and brother along. There were a few scattered folks that looked to be studying, but it was otherwise empty and we were seen quickly. Our waiter was a jolly and helpful sort, sporting a truly absurd ugly Christmas sweater, but despite being asked to get a price for an add on of fries, forgot to ever answer, and simply brought the fries out (they were extra.)They serve typical bar food, wings, fried pickles, pizza but their menu focuses on their burgers, and taking up a solid quarter of the menu they advertised the burger we were after “Luther’s Original Old Fashioned Burger.”My dad got the same, though my brother got their Chipotle Ranch burger—more on that later. The service was quick. The first impression of the food is the buttery-glistening bun, and the deep fried color of the fries. The plate was simple but immensely visually appealing. The large steak knife through the middle was a bit of a misnomer. Even though the burger was advertised as half a pound, it didn’t eat any heavier than a typical restaurant burger, and was easy enough to two-hand.As soon as you bite into the burger, the patty’s char sings out for attention. It lay across the surface of the patty thin and consistent, like a flavor-of-flame chip. Biting into it, the char broke revealing a coarse ground meat which broke apart to reveal little pockets of savory grease. The overall flavor profile is in line with the classic San Antonio burger of mustard and onions. But here they do it right. They keep the mustard on top where it can leak into the meat, and the onions are mixed up with a bed of shredded iceberg lettuce keeping the flavor light, and balancing (rather than piling on) the unctuous beef. And let’s talk about the bun, other than the mustard it was served condiment free, but it was clearly toasted in the beef grease. This added flavor really pulled the sandwich together—at first. If I had to describe the burger’s downside, it would be the last three minutes of eating it. The delightful greasy sensation when the burger was piping hot began to lose its appeal in the final bites as it cooled down.Oh, and I did order the burger with a slice of cheddar cheese, which I visually confirmed was there, but at least flavorwise was invisible. But this “problem” may have been a blessing in disguise. My brother who got the chipotle ranch which came with bacon, didn’t nearly appreciate how perfect the char on this burger was because of the many distracting flavors. This is a burger that benefits from its simplicity. The fries, if you care, were crisped to a delightful crunch and powdering center. You could ask for little more. While price doesn’t play into my contest calculations, the $7.95 price tag was exceptionally reasonable for the size—not to mention that world-beating char (though the fries are extra). If it doesn’t end up in my personal top ten, we are a very lucky city indeed. I would recommend this burger without hesitation.
Bartender would not serve my friend and said he simply did “not have time to serve” her because she asked for water. Even though she ordered alcohol, he said he did not want to serve her because getting water “takes too much time.” With the summer heat and the fact that she wanted water with her alcohol led him to not serve her, I am in disbelief and am very upset with the service here. Bars get busy, but it is their job to provide customers with the drinks they want. So rude.
Excellent service. My daughters girlfriend passed out in front and the whole management team came to our rescue! They brought us in during their most busiest times and was able to get us a table and their wonderful staff kept checking on us. The food was awesome 😊. If you have a chance, stop by for a bite!
Was there last night for my nieces bridal shower party!👰🏻♀️ The staff that waited on our table was awesome! We got there in time to see the fabulous Drag Show! Totally loved it, all the Queens wereAmazing and put on a great show!👑 We were waving are $$$ like crazy and I was happy to get to stuff some money down one of the Queens bra! Absolutely loved that my cute little old mama went on stage to dance around gather up $ for all the Queens. Loved it! Drinks and food were great! Definitely will be back again! Thank you for the great night! Love yall!💖👑😘
I went to Luthers twice on the same day. The first time for lunch and the second for the drag show in the evening. I had two different experiences which is why the stars are the way they are.For lunch, we were told to seat ourselves which was fine given the amount of tables open. The service felt extremely slow. There appeared to only be 1 server. I dont blame them for what seems to just be misjudgment by management in how many people should be working at that time. We ended up waiting for a good 10-15 minutes for the check as the server was busy elsewhere which was a bit irritating as we had somewhere to be, but it wasnt a huge deal. Other then the slower than usual service than Im used it, the atmosphere and the server themself was great. For the drag show, the atmosphere was great! Lots of people were there, and there was the right amount of servers. We didnt have enough cash for tips, so we were able to use the ATM in back. The show was fun as well; 5 drag queens performed, and they were super cool.Honestly, the food was mediocre for the price, but I think the atmosphere, especially in the evening, was worth it. I enjoyed myself here, and I plan to visit again once Im back in town.
Man this hurts because we used to love this place but dang, we just had the worst lunch out ever. Drink orders took a long time and were mostly wrong. Food took 45 minutes to come out and was only 2 of our 4 plates. 20 minutes later our third plate came out and our last plate came to go as we were paying the bill. Water was never refilled even after asking. I get Sundays can be hell in the service industry, and I was trying my best to be understanding of that but todays experience was completely irredeemable.
Im sorry but as I read some of these reviews and they made mention of certain servers being good servers but to b honest, as I have been coming to Luthers since they was across the street(knockouts) there has been one server who can top any other server at Luthers and trust me he was damn good. The server name was Darney, he was extremely fast , he knew the menu, he knew his drinks and beers but most importantly not only did he give his tables exceptional service but other tables in and outside the restaurant. When I found out he no longer works there me and my friends refuse to come back until we know they brought him back.
I usually dont go out of my way for such a review but I was 1 of 3 parties at the bar. We sat ourselves despite the sign that read please wait to be seated in an empty restaurant. No acknowledgement. No hello from the bar staff... Almost as if they migrated to the opposite end of the bar... Think twice before dining at 6pm on Sundays
Its hard for me to give a gayborhood bar restaurant cafe a 2 star rating, so I wont, but thats what this place deserves. Sadly. Ive been here 3 times in the month and a half that Ive lived in San Antonio and each time was worse than the last. The drinks are Not well made. Frozen margaritas were served in a different glass each time. Kinda confused about that. And my Titos Lime and water tasted like water. The food is horrendous. The chicken tenders entree was trash, four stringy, puny, and tough tenders with weird colored cream gravy....sweet potato fries were string sized and over cooked. Tater tots were average.Sewage was coming up through the drains in the bathroom. And cockroaches all over the patio area. Not saying I wont go back, but I wont order food or mixed drinks. Ill make sure its a bottled or canned drink. Cant mess that up.
Awesome burgers, great staff! I see people complaining about the ticket times but honestly everyone gets here at the same time for the drag show. I got here early enjoyed my meal and after got to see a wonderful, hilarious drag show right in time for my dessert! Very entertaining restaurant!
I had never heard of this place before but my BFF and I went around 2 am and the staff was very friendly and accommodating considering Im a very picky eater. Her meatloaf looked like two huge chunks of meat with gravy. Didnt LOOK appetizing but it was SO YUMMY! Not dry at all. My burger was AMAZING. Cooked to perfection and not greasy. I wish I remembered the managers name but he was so nice.
The food is decent/good, the only really great thing Ive tried is their Mac and cheese bites. I once saw a waitress almost drop some food, go back into the bar area and adjusted it with her bare hands though. I hope that was a one time thing. People seem to like their atmosphere- they have karaoke and other activities. Wouldnt be a good place to go if youre looking to talk comfortably with a group of friends or a date. Looks like a good place to have fun though.
It’s hard to find late night spots to eat anymore, lucky Luther’s Cafe is open late. It a nice place to have drinks and good food. It might take a while to get your food, but when you taste your food you forget you have waited so long for it. The food is really that good, definitely we will be back!
This hurts me to say but this is last time going to Luthers. So 5 years ago BEST BURGER I HAVE EVER HAD. apple with blue cheese OMG!.... BEST SERVICE BEST EVERYTHING...sorry but now I had the worst service and average burgers. This is the 3rd time now. They ruined menu and the music is way way way too loud. Bellow average service, Literally no cook for brunch, Rude servers....wife lost wallet I asked nicely if they saw it but server was quick to say we left a dirty diaper behind. May I add was a dry one. Literally fell on floor from diaper bag. She said use changing rooms next time I asked about wifes purse she was rude and ignored me. sorry but it was not the best experience........ the place was dirty, loud, menu is lacking, flavor is lacking. I dont know what happened to my favorite burger place...... seriously this was my favorite place for beer and burger. They have no good beers on tap, amd servers do not know what a Stout is. I will never go here again.
They took long to attend us. It seem that they only had one waitress. Order lemonade and it was super sour so I had to ask for more sugar. The waiter didnt seem like she wanted to be there but she attended us. We did get our food right away so I did like that. The outdoor is nice when its not supper hot.
Brought the whole family for Sunday drag brunch. The show was amazing, and the raspberry margarita was amazing. Better than all of that was our waiter Jordan. Weve adopted him .. but seriously. Go. Get something with the fried chicken. Love yourself, and Luthers.
Parking sucksStaff kind sucksTook almost an hour to get our food.Staff kept yelling at each otherOur waitress went home and no one else took over... So the reason our food took so long to get to us was because no one else bothered to take it to us. It had been just sitting out. The place seems disorganized and everyone seems to have a chip on their shoulder. The only reason they got a 2 star instead of 1 was because the nachos were actually pretty good. I recommend the nachos, not the place.
We saw this place on Google and decided to try it out but when we got there they had a brunch menu which wasnt specified on Google and was disappointed.. but the manager was so accommodating for us so we decided to stay and go ahead and eat. This staff was super friendly and the food was hot and fresh. The manager was extremely welcoming and even came and sat to talk to us while we waited for Uber. If you like bar food this is the place!
It was not good. I am giving two stars because the chicken pesto pizza that I had and the wedge salad that my husband had tasted good. The service was awful. We got a chocolate shake to share because it was so hot, but when it came it tasted like cold chocolate milk. It was half whipped cream and half totally melted chocolate ice cream. No taste. And it was $6. 50. Not cool. Our waiter ignored us for at least 10 minutes, and it was not that busy. my husband had to go ask a manager. Even after that, it still took him another 5 minutes to get us. We should have just walked out. With so many places to choose from, I would choose something else.
Our service was great! Rudy waited on my table and made sure our drinks were always full and worked with a professional and friendly demeanor. I will definitely be back! Also the chips and salsa were amazing!
Words cant begin to describe how awesomethis place is! Service might be a tad slow but what can you do when youre short staffed? Burgers are good, didnt have a chance to try a drink but the milkshakes are the Best Ive had in a Long time! Also very convenient garage parking just around the corner. IWill be going back ASAP!
I love Luthers for the ambiance and the drinks. Try their chamoy mango margarita, its the best ever. The thing that always happens, that we have learned to just accept it as now it is part of the charm...service is not always great. The people are super nice, I have never had a rude service person and that may be why we never really complain. There is always something wrong with the order. I asked for no onions, I get onions. My entree appears on my friends ticket and their drink is on the other friends ticket. It takes forever to get the food or order a drink. Its always something.I do wish the music was a bit lower because it is hard to hear each other. The food is good, prices are reasonable and staff always friendly just the service is a bit zany.
Ate here several times, mainly because its the only place nearby at the strip for food. Side topic, why arent there other restaurants opened in this area?Food here is mediocre at best, especially given the price. All this can be forgiven if the service are not so bad. We were there last night after pride, surprisedly it wasnt packed. We sat outside for 30 minutes with no server stopping by. Let me repeat, we sat for 30 minutes with no server. Additionally, I got up 3 times to check, and the host said inside servers only caters to inside. Another server said she was off the clock, and the 2 female bartenders at the outside bar were more interested in each other then helping. If this place exist anywhere else where there are competition, it will be out of business in a heartbeat.
Food was good, I tried the BBQ blackened burger and added sweet potato friesb because it didnt come with any sides. Service was extremely slow and many of the employees were inconsiderate of guests. I waited 10-15 minutes to be acknowledged and seated. Another 10 minutes before the waitress came to the table. 15-20 more minutes before she came back to take the order. By that time I just wanted to get an order in, so I didnt bother asking questions about the menu. There was gunk in my cup. I had to leave the table to search for her to get a new drink. As I was talking to her another employee interrupted our conversation to talk to her as if she wasnt talking to a customer!! My waitress didnt check on my table again until the food was ready. At that point, I was over it and so ready to be done with Luthers Cafe. I asked for the ticket and to go box. I typically have a lot of patience when dining out because I served 8 years in the restaurant industry, but this place has absolutely horrible customer service. Its clearly not a high expectation at this establishment.
Good for appetizers, drinks and a decent burger. Horrible service. I once waited for chili cheese fries 30 minutes, then was told I never placed an order and had to wait an additional 25 minutes. They have gotten my order wrong numerous times and I live above them. Ive been ignored by waiters and waitresses a lot. Overall, an OK place to go. A good place to go when drunk.
Best thing of all the stay was Venus! Shes so charming and loveable! The food may not be the best but she just did our night! Definitely would come back if shes my server/bartender again!
The service was a bit slow at first. We sat there for like 15 minutes with the wait staff passing us by like we didnt exist. Then my husband had to wave one of them down to finally get the ball rolling. After that the service was great. We got complementary chips and salsa(which was on point) then our order then drinks then our food. I gotta say it was good. My husband was ready to walk out but Im glad we didnt.
First time here. We had a awesome waiter, very attentive. They have TVs to watch sports games. Kid friendly. Food came out fresh and hot we tried allot of different foods and all were great. Reasonablypriced. Also the frozen blue Hawaiian is bomb. We had great service all around.
We were told by the bartender to seat ourselves, so we did. I would like to say it was busy but it wasnt besides 3 or 4 groups of 2 sitting at the bar. It took well over 15 minutes before a server even acknowledged us. For how slow it was, even the bartender could have come and at least greeted and taken a drink order. Ive worked in high volume steakhouses, to now a high volume gay leather. Never would I let guests wait that long without so much as a table greet. Once we did get service, the food was timely and honestly not bad. It just socks when youve been told about a place and have had it hyped up, only to receive sub-par service. May give it another go around in the future at which point, Im willing to revamp this review but until then, it is what it is.
Don’t come with an appetite. Waited over 30 minutes to just take my drink order. I understand things are tight being COVID-19, but two different servers passed me by and never checked on me. Still sitting here waiting for my drink order to be taken and food order. Will update this review later when, if I ever get some kind of service.
4 stars for the atmosphere and vibe. 2.5 stars for the food. Really energetic atmosphere with friendly staff. The drag show is fun if you can get a good seat. Better to come early. Food-wise, its really not that great. I would stick to the basics, hamburgers, fries, etc and not wander too far off the menu. Chances are they will either be out of ingredients or it will not be what you expected if you do. Nachos are with canned processed cheese sauce. Mixed drinks were okay. Nothing bad really, but nothing special either. I would recommend sticking with beer. They have Shiner on draft. Prices are higher than average, but better than expected for the venue. I think LuLus down the street is a better late night greasy spoon option if your on the hunt for food after a long night. Luthers, to me, is more about the entertainment/atmosphere than the food anyways.
We had the sweetest kindest waitress who was attentive, shes new on the job. The cheese was good. It took a while before anyone notified her that she had someone at her table. Every time weve come here which would be 4 times in 3 years we waited forever it felt, before someone took our order and just as long to get our food. One time we came here and waited to be seated for about 10 minute, we just left. This time around wasnt as bad but not my first pick on places to eat. We only came here because my good friend wanted to meet here for drinks.
I have never been mistreated by a whole establishment in my entire life. The hostess manager was beyond rude. The stage/singing manager was the only one with common curtesy. The server got upset with me because she didnt know which fries I had ordered. When she brought them out. I informed her she entered the wrong ones and she got upset with me. It took her 30 minutes to bring my husband a sprite. On top of a 2 hour wait standing. If your to drunk to care then this is the place for you. The only reason they did not get a one star is because the stage manager was awesome.
My friends and I waited 40 minutes and we never received any service. When calling a waiter/waitress over, we were told that they were understaffed and we had to wait. The bar wouldn’t even serve us because we were “seated at a table.” I was watching the servers and they went to the same tables around 3-4 times but when I asked if we could order, they wouldn’t even look at us and ignored us even tho we definitely projected our voices. I am so disappointed. I’ve came to this establishment numerous times and have never had an issue and I normally don’t leave reviews but the way we were treated was ridiculous. My friend ended up going to the bar for the 3rd time, and after arguing with the bartender, he finally decided to make some drinks for us. Still never got a server to come to our table after the fact.Let me go ahead and call out the staff as well. Fat Hispanic dude server- very rude. Asked us to move tables for some reason and all of the sudden told us “whatever” and walked away. Black bald bartender- the one who finally made the drinks, thank you. But told us twice before no. Hispanic girl with a bun and palm tree shorts- COMPLETELY ignored us when we all tried asking her for service. Curly haired girl- same as the other girl. Completely ignored us.AND to the drag queen hosting- you were so awesome while we were here. You are the only reason we enjoyed our time here. Thank you for your involvement in the community.
Great music, great atmosphere, great food. My wife and I were on vacation and decided to try this place based on reviews. My wife had a chicken salad sandwich that was amazing and I had the Chipotle ranch burger that was equally delicious! Our waiter was on point, had a refill ready before I finished the first one! We will definitely be eating here again next time we are in San Antonio!
Update: Weve been back several times, and I will admit that the service is hit or miss. Still love the food, the price, and the location.I dont understand all the bad reviews about this place.... My boyfriend and I went there for the first time on a Friday at 1am and it was excellent! Server was sweet and attentive, great location and feel, DJ was awesome, food cheap and delicious... We are planning on making this place a regular spot! The bad reviewers must be college kids who are used to paying for fast food.
Very lively atmosphere and a different crowd from the usual places Ive gone to.The margaritas are good and strong so cant complain! The food took a while but average overall. Id come back for drinks for sure!
Miss the old Luthers. Service has been consistently sub-par going on the second year now. We try to continue and support the Strip, so weve come to expect it here by this point. If there is a show - the food and service will be good. Slow tickets, but thats expected - its busy. Get there early to eat then stay to drink and enjoy the show afterwards. Great performers. If you see a Queen on stage, park your car and go grab a frozen drink and watch them light the place up. Youll have a great time. Also, a great neutral place to introduce someone to the world of drag. During weeknights and slow times, the service is severely lacking - and it can be that we are comparing it Luthers staff of yesteryears. (Or, that a lot of us are in the Industry). However, it does seem to be a consensus in the community. Great location, good place to have a bite before you begin your evening on the Strip. If laying low is your thing, the outdoor seating areas are great for getting some fresh air and people watching. A good spot to introduce your family & friends to the Strip, without officially going to the Strip. Ive been a fan of Luthers for many many many years now, Im hoping they bring the quality back.
My daughter and I went the other night after going to see Kathleen Madigan perform at the Empirical Theatre downtown. Such good food and excellent service. The place was so relaxing and the staff were so friendly. Nice music the whole time. Weather was tolerable so they had all of the doors open to let in the breeze. Definitely a go-to place after-hours. I know they get packed during late lunch for SAC students and residents in the area. Gotta go check it out.
A so-so experience. Meatloaf sandwich with an egg was amazing. The brisket sandwich and service really poor. Sandwich really dry. Service took forever. Food to the table lukewarm. No settings on the table and a 10 minute wait for my beer topped off the experience. May want to look at this folks. A real poor experience. We had a waiter? Who knew...
Just left this place, when we first got there I could see a server talking to a table mentioning a talk with the manager... not a good sign. The table looked miserable. We got sat really quickly and the server was very nice. When it came time to order, she prefaced by saying that the wait time for food was a little long. I took a chance and asked the server what was going on and they said that the wait for food was pretty ridiculous and agreed that wed be better off going somewhere else.
Have had great experiences here in the past! Went last night and while show was good we really missed Lynnz energy & the tone she set for the show. Service was slow....had to ask for dollar bills to tip performers and food just ok....whole experience not up to usual!! Probably wont go back anytime soon....
The food lately has been mediocre at best, especially for the price. Table service has got to be the worst in SA. (this coming from a former restaurant manager) If you do give it a try, I only recommend sitting at the bar. Their bar staff is usually more attentive, friendly & inviting. But, since they moved into their current location, that kitchen has never established a rhythm to get food out in a timely manner. Good drinks, good shows, good entertainment. If youre pressed for time, go somewhere else. Dining tip: Frozen drinks & Luthers queso.
I went here after work with a few friends. I ordered a happy hour margarita and a burger. My friends ordered Southwest egg rolls, quesadillas and wings. My burger was amazing and I enjoyed my drink. Southwest egg rolls and quesadillas looked great. The wings looked a little dry. I would definitely go back and order some of these things again. This place has an outdoor eating area looking on to Main Street by The Heat which I enjoyed.
Both Marissa and Amaya were the best servers in Luthers! Theyre always both so accommodating and always attending to our needs and provide the best service! Also, they have the best chicken wings we have ever tried. Its hard to find places that have wonderful service and prepare great food. Would recommend this 100%!
Came during Pride on a recommendation and thought the place would be great by what was told to me. Our partys ticket for food was lost, the waiter was inattentive after a time, and when our food came out an hour later, the order was half wrong. Other tables got their food first and paid & left before we even got ours. I understand busy event days but restaurants should prepare in advance for high traffic days like this. Very unimpressed by the screw ups and inability to keep on track. I wanted to like the place but it just wasnt what I expected given the hype of my friends.
Horrible service with empty tables that stayed piled with dirty dishes for the 30 minutes before I walked out. Was delivered the wrong drink but never asked what food I wanted to order. No hurry and it was NOT busy.I sat there watching the big guy who I think is a manager talking on his cell phone while attempting to clear dishes from one table and pouring unfinished drinks into the dirt next to the sidewalk. The table wasnt cleaned.Wait staff stood chatting with the bar tender ignoring dirty dishes from a patron previously sitting at the bear and had left before I arrived.
I have been a very loyal customer here for the past 2 years. I usually have the best waiters and waitresses a person can ask for.Tonight, unfortunately, I had the waiter Joey. He was very rude to me and my whole table which I did not appreciate (the rudeness was unprovoked and even when this particular waiter was rude, we remained very polite). I am very disappointed that I had this experience at a restaurant that I spend a lot of money at. When I brought up how rude this particular waiter was to me and my group with management, I did not feel like they were taking it seriously. Now on, if my normal waiter or waitress is not working, I will take my business elsewhere.
It was the worse food ever! I ordered multiple things and all of it was bad. The nachos chips were hard and was not fresh. The hot dog bun was stale and very hard. The boneless chicken wings were under cooked!!! I did not even receive my drink. DO NOT ORDER FROM THIS PLACE!!! Send the food inspector there NOW!!!
We were really looking for a unique fun evening friday night at Luthers but everything about our visit was just tragic. There were only performances for half the songs, the food was just ok and our waitress Lauren was awful. First she had no idea about anything on the menu, then she lost the $40 we gave her to exchange for $1s for the performers and messed up almost everything we ordered.
Cant handle large parties. Pretty disorganized. Waited 45 minutes for my drink. The good was not worth the trouble. Perhaps it would be a better experience with a smaller party. The wait staff was very pleasant throughout the ordeal.
The food is great, the people there are great, the servers are great. however, a part of the management team is absolutely horrendous. after putting in an application and having an interview that the hiring manager was over an hour and a half late to, Adrianna, said manager, decide that I wasnt worth the common courteously of even a rejection phone call... even after I called and left my name and number at least 8 times during the week and a half I waited to hear back. the interview went smoothly and I didnt get the impression that I was disliked or wouldnt get the job whatsoever. not only is so unprofessional and rude, she did everything she could to avoid me during my most recent visit. there is nothing more immature than a grown adult that refuses to do her job or has her staff lie to people to get out of doing her job due to whatever personal disliking she has. even if she did call me during that week and a half and said we arent hiring you, I would have been fine with it and I would continue to take my business to Luthers. my coworkers and I will find a new hang out after this horrible experience, we can find a different place to spend our money. maybe one that actually shows their guest some respect.
We go here with our kids at least once a week but after being seated tonight we had to get up and leave because after asking several staff if the music could be lowered a little, they said they have no control over it. Not even the shows are that loud especially at 6pm durning dinner. The people at the tables around us also ask but the staff tonight were less than helpful🤨
We had guests visiting from out of town so we decided to stop at Luthers for appetizers and drinks to cool off. They couldnt make some of the drinks we ordered since they couldnt find the mixers that were needed. Once the drink order was altered it took awhile to get them. Even the ones that were only needed the cap popped off the top. After another long wait for the appetizers we asked for forks to which we were told we couldnt have any because they were all dirty. I guess we should be happy we werent given dirty forks, hence the two stars.
Worst service I’ve EVER experienced. Slow service. Waited 1 hr to just pay! No napkins, no silverware, no waters, no condiments when food was served. Our waitress would come take 1 drink order, and everyone else wanted something. She would leave and not come back for a very long time. Went for a bday dinner, birthday boy was served last. Probably 30-45 min after everyone else. We asked for a manager twice, no manager ever came to our table. We were a table of 8, and it was not busy. There was a lot of servers on staff so there was no Excuse! If I could I would give NO STARS.
After a long day of delayed flights we walked all over San Antonio looking for a place that was open after 9pm. We shared some nachos , they were exactly what we needed after a long day. The brisket sandwich was amazing. I loved it so much. So happy we found this place. Too bad we missed the show!
I understand its Halloween but tonight service and all around customer service was horrible. Brought my family from out of state for an exciting time left disappointed. Our waiter didnt know the menu or any information about the restaurant didnt have any information on the block Party.
Always a pleasure to come here. Their breakfast is full & by the plate, so dont misjudge YOUR time once seated. Figure on 30 minutes @ thank you for the update sir. Drinks when its busy in any restaurant!. Ripe he used to kill himself @ parking in garage & have to watch your mirrors dont hit anything!
No option to choose 0 star. Ridiculous and sketch service. Terrible customer service. Server overcharged our card and added extra items we didn’t order to increase the bill. And most ridiculous, server was hiding the bill breakdown and the food and adjustment of bills took forever. DO NOT VISIT!!
Food is amazing. Stick to the bar. DO NOT DINE IN. The service is atrocious. Literally EVERY TABLE that came after my table was served before us, and the server blamed the back of the house. So if youre a cook here, know that your servers throw you under the bus when its clear that they didnt put in the food order in. 60+ minute wait for burgers and grilled cheese? Shameful.
Place was good. Service was ok. Burgers were good. I ordered the inferno burger, a little too spicy to enjoy all the way through, but good if you like spice. Bella burger was good, mushrooms and spinach made the burger come together with the aioli. Wings were a bit overcooked and lacked flavor.
Busy cafe and bar with fun staff ad great crowds. Large juicy crafted burgers are hit, but many other dinner type options are available for salads to sandwiches to played dinners. Opted for onion rings which were cut thick an nicely breaded. Located right at San Antonios rainbow crosswalk the patio here is a fun place to people watch both in and out of the cafe. They have several themed events like s Drag Brunch on Saturdays and a Jazz brunch on Sundays.
Luther Cafe use to be our favorite place to go. But in these last couple of years, it went downhill. Food comes out raw, reheated, old, molded. Yesterday we thought we give it another chance since it been a long time since we been there. My son fries was old and reheated, my partner burger was raw, and bloody raw, my sandwich had old lettuce, our appetizers were reheated and nasty. They were play music as we were in a club. I mean on Luther’s, you guys are really slacking off and going downhill. Hire better employees, and take care of customers correctly. What we paid for was not worth it. Guess it time for a new spot.
TLDR: Terrible service, food, and cleanliness.Sunday brunch service.Arrive and expect to wait 10 minutes for someone to greet you. Typically I expect to say this when there is a line, but there was nobody else waiting. This place just doesnt have the staff to seat customers.Once seated expect a ten minute wait to get a drink. Do not expext a refill.Wait another 20 minutes after ordering eggs to get the food.Go the the restroom and realize it has literally never been cleaned.LeaveFeel sick an hour after thatWrite a yelp review because this place is just THAT bad. I do not advise going to this place.
We used to adore this place! Last two times it has been sub par but we decided to give it the college try today. No bar tender, waiter came once to ask what drinks and appetizer and again 5 min later (Dory). Then we ordered...mine came about 10 min later and my husbands 10 after that with raw bacon! He didnt want to send it back but he had too! The bacon was oinking! The waiter apologized and took it back. 5 min later literally the same thing came out. At this point I was like no...we came here for date night because we love this place so I spoke to the manager. He non nonchalantly said oh...we can make it again..I said for the 3rd time!? No we are done!
After 45 min of waiting for our brunch, the waitress came to our table to inform me that they were out of what I ordered. Forty five minutes. When I said we were frustrated and I didn’t want to wait another 45 min if I ordered something else, I wasn’t assured it would be shorter or offered anything to compensate me, she simply said “I’m sorry we are behind.” There were 10 other tables in this place total. I was speechless, so the waitress helped me out by saying “do you just want to go?” HAH. Sure, don’t try to find a way to make it right for your customer, just ask them if they want to leave. And indeed we did (after still paying for our drinks). We saw some bad reviews about the service, but we decided to risk it because the menu looked so appetizing. But, it’s not worth it if you can’t even eat within an hour of getting there, if you get to eat at all. I 100% do not recommend.
Good service! Enjoying a live band, Sunday! Relaxing and warm environment! Excellent food and a terrific place to meet / eat with friends!Just finished brunch...a delicious meal of two seafood cakes topped with eggs benedect along with a lite beer! Excellent combination! All while listening to a live jazz band!I go back to here at least 3 times a month!! Come by and see for yourself!
I truly want to show this place love but every time I come, Im shocked with another version of bad service. Im usually sat and ignored. This time my appetizers came after my meal (which the boss comped), no napkins, very slow service, forgotten once for to-go containers, and given containers entirely too small for the leftovers. Step your game back up guys.
Love coming here for brunch as the drinks and food are great, however I keep encountering issues with wait staff more often than not. Either they are unaware of their areas (which is a managerial issue), or they only work the tables they want ( which is an attitude issue) and even then Ive witnessed the slack off ( which is an experience issue). Im not talking about slow service, I come here to be laid back that I can handle, Im talking about not approaching a table until 20-30 mins after they arrive, or someone flags them down; only delivering drinks and food with no follow up causing customers have to get up and seek refills, and other such actions; and just disappearing altogether. I know not all wait staff are like this, I have had some great, attentive and friendly staff which keeps me hoping that hopefully the other bad apples will be tossed out of the barrell.
This place is awesome. Macaroni Cheese Bites are dangerously good. The guacamole is fantastic (with a bit of salt added) and everything else on the menu that Ive had is great. The service can be a bit hit or miss, but the food is really good for a diner. I had low expectations, but Im going back on a weekly basis now.
The food is awesome the service is great, they are really friendly. The prices are great especially happy hour. Its in the perfect place on the strip plus they have a patio so you can people watch.. we love it... gotta check it out
Love the night environment, Alyssa and Liz are the best managers! , we only come for the shows every weekend which are the best! bartenders are friendly and servers are great. Upsetting that there closed half the week now:(
The service is pretty good and the food is decent. I enjoy living close because its an easy place to grab a drink and get a decent bit simultaneously. Not a go out of your way visit, but youll be fed and enjoy your drink.
Prompt, friendly & easy-going. Never had an issue & food was always good. Doesn’t pass itself off as a vegetarian restaurant but I think they have the best bean-patty burger around... Nothing pre-formed about it & the fact that you can see all the different beans they use to form it tells you how fresh it is - never soggy!!!
The food is amazing but the service is very hit or miss. Sometimes it’s impeccable others we wait an hour for food or receive the wrong plates. Some servers are great, some don’t visit our table at all even for refills. Once the service was so bad we asked to speak to a manager and another waitress came and told us to pay and leave. There is a lot of clubs nearby and they get really busy- I would advise going earlier in the day for a good experience.
Entertainment was ok, seen better drag shows than this. The drag host was hilariously good! Only one drag was fantastic! A little tiny drag very on key a great dancing. The food was lousy, overcooked fries and everyone at the table barely ate what they could choke down. Our server was fabulous and worked hard. I would say it was an ok place to start out your evening!
Service was horrible!!!! Walked in to be seated and waited for a good five minutes before we were even addressed. The hostess was just watching the drag show or something. She then sat is and went back to watch the show and took forever to take our order. Food was bland even for drunk food after the strip.
A three today only because our waitress was friendly and reasonably attentive. My cheeseburger fine but I was served old, soggy fries. My friend had the Fish & Chips(tots) and he said the fish was also soggy. You guys might want to check the temperature of the oil.
Love the place, love the food. Been there at least six times previously with the family. Problem this time was they could not handle a party of 20. Called friday for saturday afternoon family celebration. Service was very slow due to being short-staffed. Took about an hour to get food, which came out from perfectly hot to room temperature. Still left 20% tip. We will definitely be back again just not all at the same time.
Always a great experience here. The food is great & the atmosphere is always friendly. If there was anything I would critique its the hefty amount of dough on the fried mushrooms...but seriously, thats nothing. My wife & I always love it here.
We came late night on Sunday and just ordered appetizers and they took very long to bring them out. The guac tasted like it was artificial/store-bought. However, their Mexican Candy Shots were delicious!
I typically like this place. However the manager and or supervisor just need to periodically remind the staff that, they should take a break from their personal conversation to attend to the customer. LITERALLY we had to sit and watch the bar tender converse with a co-worker, laughed and when she was satisfied later came to hand us menus. After ordering she had another convo before handing us our water. I understand people have good days and bad, however if you work front of the house you suck it up or you fake sick and go home.
Luthers Cafe has definitely make steps in the right direction. Their new location is clean and orderly. They have proper indoor and outdoor seating with large umbrellas and a very large bar in the center. The food is consistent and the staff is very lively and helpful! Stop in for a beer and a bite!
I love the atmosphere. Is lovely and friendly to add all. The food is decent. Some items are too greasy for me, and Id like to see more vegan options. Id like a better wine selection as well.
To say the least, our experience there ruined our night. We were having a blast at bang bang and decided hey let’s finish the night at Luther’s. Horrible mistake, we waited 45 minutes before we decided to leave. Not once did someone take our drinks or greet us. Yet 2 tables that came in 15 minutes after us got served almost immediately. It’s was honestly the worst experience I’ve had at a place in a while. Luher’s you failed us. Good job!Answer to owner: We were sat by the hostess, and we were sat right behind the bar on the restroom side of the restaurant. This was this past Saturday, at 12am.
Horrible customer service!!! I took my kids to Pride with Doggies. And I must’ve been standing there 20 minutes before anyone could seat us. Felt very unwelcome. From the waitresses/waiters, to the host and cashiers ALL RUDE! If you don’t like your job don’t work there. Simple. Don’t make our experience miserable because you are. Very upsetting! Smh
Love this place and the food, but dont order a mojito! Every bartender makes it differently. The last few times Ive been here, it takes at least 10 minutes for a server to come to the table. Might need a little more training for servers and bartenders.
For all the LGBT community this is the place to enjoy a great meal. Meet new friends, and even take in a show. And if your in the mood to be the show they offer kareoke nights as well. Across the street from some of the best bars in town come and enjoy Luthers. Its great to come to a place where people can bring their families.
NEGATIVE 5 STARS!!!! First off, very OVERPRICED for less than mediocre taste. Slowest wait staff in the face of earth. Management very biased. Overall: Worst experience. Chips was such a real struggle to chew. Burger was far from tasty but cost me $9.00, Ridiculous! Replace this place with Whataburger. I DO NOT recommend this place and food, not even for dogs.
Very nice! They had little staff. Looked like one person waiting tables for about 7 tables. He was trying to keep his cool. He saw the other side of are table after tipping him $20. He was grateful.
Fast service and great food, its always a pleasure going to Luthers. I highly recommend going on a Sunday for brunch! $12 for a bottle of champagne and a pitcher of orange juice is a hard deal to miss when wanting to enjoy a breezy Sunday morning out! Both their breakfast and lunch options are fantastic and give quite a lot of variety too!
Very good and cheap eats in the heart of San Antonios gay nightlife scene. There are often shows. The weekend brunches are delicious and very affordable. I love the mimosas made with peach Barefoot Bubbly. No trip to San Antonio is complete without a meal or drink at Luthers. It has a very nice bar also.
Have tried this place 4 times now, have never gotten my food correct,. And really not a tasty meal. This is an ok place for an after bar quick bite but the food is just not that good. Its sad because I like the setting and the restaurant itself, just have never had a good meal and service is just ok. If they just improved the food and had better service I would love this place. Update the food has gotten better and service as well, although now its not open past 10 on weekdays bummer so rating stands.
Had the Turkey wrap and was disappointed in it. Was stuffed with iceberg lettuce, a thin smear of avocado, a few chunks of tomato & minimal Turkey. Watched Tripple D and was hoping for a better experience for lunch. The fries looked like they may have been good when they were freshly made, but by the time they reached our table they were barely warm. Sad.
This could be one of the best eating places in San Antonio, but they never really dedicated themselves to doing so. It is mediocre in every respect.Follow up 11 months later. Sat down. Waited 20 minutes for service, and left. Again, this could be a great place to eat and have refreshments, but it is disorganized with extremely poor service.
It wasnt great at all. The waitress we had was taking care of all the tables. I not once got a refill on my tea the food took like 50 min. to come out after we ordered. My chicken fried steak and fries came out cold, was brought back heated up from a microwave. My daughters pancake and eggs came out cold she still ate them. My moms burger and onion rings came out cold. My moms burger and onion rings also came back heated up from a microwave. So on a scale 1 - 10, I give it a 2 got to meet some men that rode a one wheel balanc board. I dont recomend to go eat at this place again or to go for the first time
Came with a e-gift card was sat promptly, waiter was hot but very distracted as it took about 15 minutes to be greeted after we had to go ask for a waiter. He apologized and said he was smoking as he just woke up right before his shift, had he not been so hot Id have complained. As for the food and alcohol great job seriously, good prices too. Go during happy hour!
Incredible and fun environment. Staff was friendly and the food was good. I ordered a meat loaf sandwich and it was soooo huge, I was thinking, Can one individual actually eat all this?! LOL...Great place, great atmosphere, and great staff.
The food was amazing and the atmosphere was fantastic. The service on the other hand is the only reason why I gave them two stars. I specifically ordered a house margarita. I received one watered down margarita, I ordered another one and it tasted much better. When the bill came I was charged for two top shelf patron margaritas. Go for the food, but dont risk ordering a mixed drink. I dont like being overcharged. I previously worked in food service and as far as Im concerened this is unethical.
I asked for the check and I was told of a total amount higher than I expected, so I asked for an itemized receipt. The bartender immediately, I mean, a second right after my last word, knew exactly what was the overcharge for so she asked the manager to correct the amount. Made me wonder if she knew all along about the overcharge...That was really weird. Besides other issues, it feels like the customers have to be nice to the servers or be friends with them, or flash a very big tip to get a decent service. Otherwise, youre just a penny to their paychecks. Sorry, no tip for you.
Loved their burgers! The meat was delicious and the fries were fantastic! Went to the brunch drag show and it was splendid! Wonderful performances and entertainment with refreshing mimosas! 🥂
The staff was very friendly. However the restaurant was very understaffed, and service was extremely slow. The food was not good and the tea was basically like a lightly flavored water. The tables and the building in general were very dirty.
Great atmosphere, friendly and attentive service. Valerie and other staffers were wonderful. Prickly Pear Margaritas are a must. Appetizer trio and cheeseburger were very good. Thanks to everyone!
I just ordered the chicken fried steak thru the door dash app. My food arrived on time and thats about all I can say was positive. My side item was totally forgotten and my husbands were both cold. Now to the chicken fried steak, which is according to reviews a must have . Ugh, no thank you, never again. The crust, which was over cooked and hard, was also sooo salty it was practically inedible. Being a life long Texas girl, I know what a good chicken fried steak should taste like, and Im sorry to say this it not it!
Don’t go, it’s permanently closed and they haven’t updated their website or Google. I made a reservation on their website to go to drag brunch on my birthday. We all got there and it was a ghost town. We talked to a guy across the street and he said they had been closed for months. It’s terrible that they had to close down but it was very disappointing. I even had to confirm the reservation the morning of.
This had usually been a pretty good fall back when we couldnt decide on what to eat. Last few trips have been slightly disappointing regarding service and food quality. Not opposed to coming back because we have historically had great experiences here but if it seems this is the new norm we will find a new place to drop in on
Went there earlier with my best friend and her cousin. I was given a menu covered in mold by the hostess. it took 30 minutes for a waiter to come over after we were seated to take our drink order and when we received our drinks we ordered an app (never showed up). at the end of the hour and a half that we were there my table ordered one more drink and the check and lo and behold the nonexistent appetizer was on the bill. part of our party left while one stayed back to drink that last drink which took 20 minutes to get and settle the bill. someone was smoking a black and mild which stunk up the entire area we were sitting in. drinks tasted awful, even the dr pepper tasted off.0/5I will not be coming back.
We waited for almost a 1hr for our food, and we just ordered hamburgers. There was hardly anyone there so Im not sure why it took so long. Food was cold when we got it and waiter had a very bad attitude! We used to go there all the time years ago and it was always so delicious, not sure what happened. 😥
Such a fun place!! We were running out of time for dinner/drinks before our show at the Public Theater. Came across Luthers and stopped in. LOVED IT!!! Wigstock karaoke was just getting set up when we had to leave...cant wait to go back!! Food and drinks were great to boot!!!
Two stars for ambience only. The patio was really cute in a gay-friendly neighborhood which I loved. I ordered a pomegranate margarita which was also good. Not great, but good. The food however was awful and I normally try to give most places the benifit of doubt (off night, super busy, ect) but it really was bad. Immediately after I ate I felt sick. I got the crawfish po boy. Fries looked refried which was also disappointing.
Every time we come here the hostess is rude and the waitstaff is extremely slow. We waited at least 45 minutes for the waitress to come back to our table after we were done eating today. Also, the prices are way too expensive for what you get. Probably because the bartenders are eating and taking shots behind the bar. Ill take my business elsewhere.
I took my family to eat hear but service was horrible well we didnt get any .we got a table and was waiting to order. 10 minutes later a table gets there and their order was taken. we dont discriminate but it felt like we were.we quietly just got up and left when 1 of the waiters was saying loudly they got mad they got mad . it was said loud enough to where I can hear on the other side of the street. never tried the food but I guess we will never know.thats just list bussiness and alot of bussiness relies on word ofmouth.even though the food might be good , service gets people in the door .
Best spot ever!!!! Crazy awesome hostess!! She actually kissed my dog!! Best waitress in the world!! (Her name was Valerie...give that girl a raise) Amazing food!! Great drinks! Her Majesty Queen Lindseys voice is like an angel from heaven!! I mean come on! Eat here. Best place ever. Coming back with friends!!
Waiters seem to be more attentive with patrons they are familiar or friends with, no luck for out of towners bad first impression, had to wait 20 mins for wait staff or even menus, and from that our group of 4, had to wait an additional 30 mins, to receive food or drinks, when we brought it up to the wait staff, she seemed to be annoyed that we wanted to know how much longer. Needless the silver lining is that when we did receive our food it was very good.
Poor customer service. My hungry family and I just left because the hostess refused to seat our party in the shade - because of the server rotation. Really? I have to sit my bootie in the sun (and today is a warm day) for ur servers convenience. The hostess actually said it was a money thing and said no, sorry after I asked several times about moving. The manager was nice when I mentioned it but my party was already out the door. To the hostess....search YouTube for the video - give them the pickle. I wont be back....which is sad cuz it had a cool vibe, lots of drink choices and the food looked good :-(
Waitress was cocky and overly confident about being able to memorize our order then STILL got all 4 of our orders wrong! She said it was because she had 10 tables. Like its our fault. The wait was horrible. People who arrived AFTER us recieved thier meals before us. This brunch was a HORRID experience and our waitress also did not look professionally put together for someone who has to interact with the public. Her pony tail was all crooked and her hair a hot mess.
Want to Thank Jordan for making my daughters birthday so special and making our party guest so at home!! He was so patient and understanding and always on his toes making sure everything was good with our food and drinks.
I was not pleased work the service. For to covid-19 restrictions in place there were less tables and still the wait staff were not good. Very long wait times, wait staff were to busy chatting, they bring out meals without cutlery, napkins, condiments. This particular young lady was just bad. I really enjoy going there.. Its just the service is less than adequate
Food was good hostess was polite. Service was terrible. Our waitress could not take care of one table at a time and she was very very slow. I think a sloth would move faster. I wpuld not come back regardless on how great the food was.
This is one of my top go-tos. Super consistent food, always fantastic service. Great atmosphere. Super chill during the week... Live jazz brunch on Sundays... Drag shows on the weekend. Like, you seriously cannot go with here. One of my faves.
I have been at Luthers several times. We go in today and the waitress asked us if we wanted to be inside or outside. They gave us🤨 the menus and asked for us to sit ourselves. Of course we said inside hoping to be cooler. AC was not on, and the fans were not enough. Server Joy was somewhat attentive to us at the beginning (me and my wife). She got us our drinks in a timely manner, but then she took a while to get our order. She apologized. I said no problem. Food came out kind of fast. Today I had a burger and a beer. Something simple and fresh. My wife had the Irish beef stew. I dont complain much, but when is something so simple to make and the burger is undercooked and the stew was lukewarm makes me wonder how the burger with ranch would have been? What about the fish? Which, to me, stew is supposed to be hot. My wife did not finish her food. I asked her for the check and she seemed to grab it, but then started talking to someone that just came in from the patio side and they both sat at the bar. May be 10 minutes later I decided to go to the receiving area to see if Joy noticed us to give us the check. Another waitress saw us and asked us if we were waiting for a table. I said that we were waiting for the check and pointed at Joy. After a few minutes Joy came to the area to charge us. She apologized again, I did not respond. My wife left with disappointment because we both liked going there. Not anymore. Just had to post this.
Luthers has gone down we have been going there since the first one. Tables were sticky where we were sitting. Food was horrible compare to the past. It has trashy ppl working super slow service is horrible. Time to look for a new gay friendly and kid friendly restaurant.
Bad server. One of us asked for a to go cup with the initial order. The waiter forgot. Then said Ill be right back with it and never came back with it. All that time he was walking around. Then when I asked about the drink he says its on your table and Im the only server, so youll have to wait. The drink on the table was still the one in the regular glass.
Love the entertainment! Unfortunately our waitress was not so good we had to wait at least 35 mins for our food. Then all of our order was not complete had to wait for another 39 mins for the rest of food to come out. Hopefully she can more training.
Stopping the servers from taking tables while on a 30 minute wait...... Several of us were upset until we went to a great place called Burbon Street. Great food and live music.... For a first impression, Luthers failed miserably. I should have read the reviews first.
I just went the other day and got served by Sage, he was THE BOMB! I’d never been here before and came without my spouse, Sage treated us like King and Queen and made sure we were taken care of. He has just the right amount of flamboyance to not be overwhelmed. I also just really loved watched RuPaul Drag Race on their TVs as I ate my delicious food, which of course, Sage made sure was on time and fresh. 11/10 would recommend both this place and getting Sage as a server.
Awful service. Hair in my food. So disappointed. Ive been here before and the food was always good, service prompt. Luthers was 1 of my favorite places to go. I finally talked my boyfriend into coming and it was an awful experience! It was freezing & i mean my bf is a hot natured person & he was freezing. We told the waitress & she said shed be opening the outside doors soon & itd warm up but never did. Place was slow & somehow so was the service. The waitress was not friendly at all & was more concerned with hanging out with her friends at the hostess stand than serving us. Omw back from the restroom i saw our food just hanging out under the warmers and about 10 minutes later was finally brought to us. While eating i discovered a hair baked into my tatertots. When i told my waitress all she said was thats awful n brought us our ticket. When i asked for the manager she took forever to come back so we went to the resgister ourselves where she told us they would credit back half of the tatertots because about half had been eaten. When i complained to the guy incharge he offer little to no apology. Unfortunately this awful experience is enough to make a regular not come back.
We went to Luthers after seeing and episode of Burgers Brew & Que on Food Network. It lived up to the hype, the meatloaf sandwich which was featured on the show was really good. Good selection of beers and whiskeys. Service good. Parking can be a real problem.
Warning This will be a long review! Im also going to post with BBB.Got to Luthers around 5:30 pm 10/2/18. Sat at the bar. Restaurant was empty. Bartender Tammy assisted me. Shes great btw and attended to all my needs even when my friend arrived. She kept checking on us and Ill never forget her for that, because for the past year Luthers service has been TERRIBLE! Food great, service TERRIBLE! Im scoring 1 star because the service i received from the manager working on 10/2/18 around 7pm. He was so unprofessional. Ive worked for banks for 14 years doing call center jobs and have hustled second jobs doing retail so i know everything about great customer service and i didnt get that last night from him. I purchased a groupon, had drinks, closed my tab with the groupon, but the bartender and myself didnt notice it couldnt be redeemed on drinks. She had to go get the manager. He said this groupon isnt allowed on drinks so you have to pay full price. So i understood. This foo walked away and had the bartender tell me the bad news that they scanned my groupon anyways and that it is now considered redeemed so i wont be able to use the code on my next visit for food. Huh? But you just billed me full price. Please get the manager again. He comes out and starts making up all these lies in his head trying to bs me like im uneducated. Im telling the manager if youre telling me u scanned my groupon but made me pay full price and i cant use it after u didnt honor it then give me a gift certificate or sign your name on my receipt acknowledging i didnt receive credit for this on my purchase so the next time i come in here i wont have problems with my groupon. He refuses, says i need to take it up with groupon. Groupon states i must take it up with the seller Luthers. So after hunting for a way out of this bs scam this manager is putting me through i had to do a live chat with groupon because they had no number. Without any doubt they refunded me real quick. They werent argumentative like this so called manager they had luthers. Ive had it with the service at luthers! The last incident i had was a couple of months ago where 2 friends and myself were seated outside and never serviced. We watched everyone around us get serviced but ourselves. So we went inside and sat at the bar, still no service. So we decided to sit at bigger table because we were going to have more guest, sat for a good 10 minutes still no service. We decided to walk out. As we walk out a waitress says no one serviced yall huh? Ummm duhhh no, were just going to go across the street since we cant get service here. Yall really need to stop hiring every Tom, d, and harry that is desperate work and has little experience because this place has truly gone down. My mom use to brag about this place since i was a small child. I wouldnt take her here now because yall suck. Like i said im definitely reporting luthers to BBB. Tammy again thank you for being a GREAT bartender but Im sad u work for a lousy company with a lousy boss.
Food did not taste like I expected. Got chicken fried steak and Ive definitely had better. Tasted like it was frozen and so did the gravy. Probably wont be going there again. Service slow and so was the food coming out. Not impressed at all.
Worst service eveeeeeer. Twice that we go. Plus gross. Every time they would make my drink they would constantly touch the straw with their hands. My friends phone even drowned since there were no coasters. My server didnt even attend us until 20 minutes after we seated and didnt attend us after that at all. Even one server said out loud that he didnt care. Do not waste your time.
The atmosphere is extremely friendly, the entertainment is amazing, and its always a good time. I go at least once a week. My normal waiter is always a blast and I feel connected to this place.
The General Manager is rude and do not consider the customers requests. Yes is a street cafe and seats are outside for those who choose to sit outside. However, it’s very windy and in the evening and cold.. we requested to have to close onside of the roll up doors so the room would not feel like a wind tunnelas we try to enjoy our dinner.... This man screamed NO and tried to educate me on a street cafe... How RUDE and very inconsiderate..... it’s an establishment that relies on customers....
Overpriced and terrible food. Ok maybe terrible is too far. I order a bean burger which stated on the menu that it was a vegetarian burger that came with cheese. When I finally received it the cheese was not included and I inquired about it. The waiter told me it was a vegan burger therefore it doesnt come with cheese. I explained that I ordered it from the menu because it states that is vegetarian AND says it comes with cheese. He brought me a plate with a slice of cheese. I was sharing this with a friend but their bean burgers just fall apart. I ordered fried pickles which were soggy and the ranch provided didnt taste right. Every time I get dragged here by friends because its close to the dance clubs I feel like Ive just wasted my money. Its not worth it.
The food was good, although, the coconut shrimp was mushy and small. The disappointing part was the waitress. She was unkempt, breath smelled bad, forgetful, impolite, and unfocused. The staff were unprofessional. I was wondering who was managing, if a manager was actually present.
2 stars because it has potential to be a really great spot, and Im sure at some point in its 60 year history it was. As for now, like everyone else has said, service was TERRIBLE. EVERYONE was staring into the kitchen desperate for some service. The waitress said it was her 3rd day and it looked like all the other employees were even newer than her! No hustle, no determination, management must be pretty lousy sorry to say.
In the heart of the gay community. A place where you and your friends can meet, have a drink, socialize, have a quick bite or just relax and be yourself. The live drag show was really nice. An empowering and inspiring experience!!
Really good neighborhood gay bar and restaurant. Friendly bartenders and wait staff. Good food and drinks. Ask for daily specials. Happy hour is a mixed crowd. Live music on certain nights. Outdoor curbside seating and open air bar. Frozen margaritas, frozen blue hawaiin, and other frozen drinks.
Husband ordered steak.. ran out, understandable he then ordered brisket nachos that was horrible chips stale, brisket was ok but the cheesr was cold and disgusting. I ordered the coconut shrimp which was horrid! cannot begin to describe the taste over fried and just plain terrible! service was bad! manager came out we explained that at one point luthers was the spot for good and drinks and now its questionable he smiled and said thank you?!?! my husband told himits not a compliment yikes!!!!!!
Came all the way from Houston to visit my cousins. Arrived at Luthers at around 5:00pm with a reservation for a party of 10. Constantly ordering food and drinks anxiously awaiting the Drag Queen Show. The only reason why I am giving a 1 star is because our waiter Devin was amazing. Right when the Drag Queen show was about to start we were asked to sit outside or leave because we didnt have a reservation; however we were already sitting down per our reservation for about 3 hours. The Manager never approached our table to explain what was going on. Instead sending other waitstaff to difuse the situation. It was very unprofessional. We only had one night in San Antonio and it had to be cut short. Will never come here again!
I had never been here, only heard that the food was great. Needing to see the rainbow crosswalk, I finally found the opportunity to visit. The food was great, especially the beer battered mushrooms, and the environment was great! Cant wait to bring my wife here next time!
The service here is Horrible. We came for the frozen Jack and coke but the service is so bad even on a slow day. The manager is rude and could careless if his employees are too busy talking and playing around instead of doing there job. We even saw employees serve there self jack and coke in there to go cups. Need better management for this place. We won’t go back. We found our jack and coke somewhere else ✌🏼
My girlfriend and I have gone to Luthers for a few years. Since their move across the street Ive noticed a trend; the servers are always wonderful, but drinks take a long time to come out. On occasions bottled beer has taken more than 10 minutes to get out to us. Order your drinks early! Amazing fried things and the drinks are great when they get to you
At first glance this place is a small bar with a kitchen. Their burgers are hand made and seasoned. They do an excellent job cooking the food to order. The burger tasted excellend ant the fries were done just right. I definately will be coming back
The food is great IF you can stand the service. I sat at the bar alone for 5 minutes with 2 bartenders there, never acknowledged me once...until i stood up to leave. The bartender was still asking if i wanted a drink as i was opening the door to leave....its really deplorable.
Great ambiance but got a little warm inside. It seemed we waited a bit much for our food but when it arrived it was good. We went outside to their patio for dessert (not much cooler). Great mix of people (and their pets).
This was the best burger place is SA back when Robert was alive and the owner. After he pasted away his wife attempted to keep it going. Lost its flavor, but really went down hill after she sold it to someone who reversed its charisma. Its now across the street in a smaller format. Have not eaten there, but doubt that it ever recaptured the original taste that Robert gave it.
I like Luthers! I think some of these other reviews are kind of harsh. The food is good. Ive personally never had bad service. It does take a while to get your food sometimes but dont go there when you are in a hurry.
The bartender was very kind, the server took my food order and I was waiting 30 mins for my food. The bartender kept checking on my meal and the server told him they actually ran out and didn’t put an order in. It wasn’t the bartenders fault but it would have been nice to not have been sitting there for 30+ minutes for nothing.
Food is always delicious, no matter what you choose. Friendly service. Ate perfectly cooked chicken breast with sauteed mushrooms, added sauteed onions, seasonal vegetables, the best homemade mac & cheese.
Love the atmosphere! Go on Thursday nights @ 7:00pm, they play RuPaul and have a lovely speaker entertaining the crowd! The Luther’s queso is amazing, and the prices are reasonable! Definitely a great place to enjoy a drink (or 8) with your friends and have a good time!
Ive been to this restaurant many times; Ive enjoyed entertainment, event nights, their tasty frozen cocktails, food and service. Ive given a two star rating this time however on account of the service, which i consider a most important aspect of any venue in the service industry. I do not give reviews of this nature lightly as Ive been in the service industry for many years myself however my last visit, more or less within the last two weeks, was subpar. This had to deal with specifically the service received at the bar. A friend and I who spend little time together due to the nature of our lives, decided to have dinner here. We made the mistake of sitting at the bar. Our server/bartender was more interested in making himself an intrusive part of our conversation; he lingered, interjected his opinions, thoughts and life experiences (i know hes a former marine, with a teen daughter and experience with traffic tickets for speeding) and conspicuously flirted with my friend, this after her obvious dismissive body language. What is worse is after his area picked up in business he stayed away and hung out with someone who was either a regular, a friend or desperate for attention; note my friend was not. He only later returned after my friend finished her drink to ask if we wanted another round, I had been done with my drink for about 15/20 mins and waiting for my next at that point(so bravo to noticing my lady friend but not me.) I let my friend know Inwas ready to move on to another establishment and we skipped on the frozen beverages we intended to have for dessert.Again, I dont like to complain nor do I like writing reveiws of this nature however when thinking about going for a frozen drink today I started to realize there were a lot of second thoughts because of this experience; keep in mind Ive worked in a bar environment and in service and this was definitely not conducive to a bartender assessing his patrons to gauge the interaction. In the end Id like to add that Luthers has been a staple in this community and has an otherwise great atmosphere, I guess stay away from tha bar if youre looking for some friend-and-me-time or if you prefer less interaction in your dining experience.
Emilio is the best if you come here ask for him! Hes kind and HANDSOME! It was great we came here with a party of nine for my mother in-laws partners birthday and we were not disappointed! Bartender with the hair was cute too....
My server was almost perfect, the food was outstanding and the karaoke sealed the experience. The restaurant is close to many bars central of the city. Had my server refilled my drink I would have given this visit 5 stars.
Terrible service ordered a draft beer and a frozen margarita that took over 20 minutes to get the draft ate my food and still never received my margarita so I cancelled it. Waitress took our payment and never came back with our card until we reminded her. It wasnt even a busy night.
I had one of the best burgers of my life here. I would 100% go back when Im in the area. I thought the decorations were nicely done and my kid enjoyed being there.
