Had several delicious drinks made by Chris. I had the Beat Guess, Steve McQueen and Sam Spade in that order. We arrived when it opened so it was empty and I was able to check out all the various items throughout the bar. Super kitsch; loved it.We werent there long enough for any live music but I think the vibe is probably great for an open mic or small acoustic set.
This place is popping even on a Monday night!!! The music and vibe are great and I loved the drinks! Make sure if you go, bring cash for the cover and go early else the line gets crazy
This place is a gem!! And an inspiring one at that! Between Lester Raws incredible live performances and the brilliantly curated artworks by Anita Beshirs, this place has it all. Oh, and the bartenders are classy, intelligent mixologists to say the least. Do yourself a favor and experience old San Francisco NOW♥️🎨🎸🍻
Good place to get strong drinks. Madrone has a row a paintings on one wall and various sculptures from the ceiling. The effect is somewhat ruined by the four televisions they have about the bar, but its understandable that they want to cater to the sports crowd. I tried my wifes cocktail and ordered a beer for myself. Her cocktail was quite strong which could be a theme for this bar. The music was fairly loud as well, but thats not surprising for this type of bar. Overall, I think this bar is an interesting visit and would subsequently recommend it.
It was a very crowded place when i went. The espresso martinis were really good!! They played some fun danceable songs
Words can’t describe the groovy vibes this neighborhood bar brings. Between the local talent that performs to the rotating art instillation this spot is unmatched in bringing the community together for a good time. You just have to come on Motown Mondays and see for yourself. Guaranteed not to disappoint
Great bartender. As an out-of- towner that was only there to see Dead and Company, I loved San Francisco and I think the locals were all excellent. From the old- lady barfly, to the old stoner that shared his joint, to the 21yo that was there for Motown Monday, I was beyond delighted with the conversation I shared with each of them. And ohhhh, Lord... I wish my fight had been later, because that Motown was sure off the chain. This place was poppin for a Monday night. Great crowd, of all different types of folks and all ages across the board. Would totally go to this bar if it was in Minneapolis. Music and art with a variety of characters around? You cant go wrong. Thank you for the hospitality!
Go on Sundays for open mic, then for MoTown Mondays, or monthly karaoke! This is my go-to spot for quality events, local music, and enjoyable atmosphere.I love the staff and the drinks are quite tasty.Great place to bring friends!
If you like good drinks, intimate musical performances, and a bunch of crazy stuff on the walls, youll love Madrone Art Bar. Bartenders and bouncers alike are super nice, and catching a live performance here is dope af. We caught an amazing funk band. Lots of the signs they got posted up are hilarious, too. Bonus for showing random action flicks on the screens! Nice touch.
Ran into a Robyn-themed indie music party on a Saturday night and it’s incredibly fun! Everything about the bar is just sooo cool - the honk chandelier, bomb disco ball, posters on the wall. The playlist of Robyn, Passion Pit, etc is INSANELY DOPE!! The cocktail is a bit disappointing so stick with beer
(Bars often have very different vibes depending on the day of the week - so this is for a busy Saturday night.)The best part of Madrone was the bouncer!I bet thats something youve never heard about a bar -- but Im serious. We waited in line for about 30 minutes to get in, and the bouncer at the door was quite friendly and made sure our group all got in together. He let one of our friends join us in line and that friend offed him cash (bribe?) and the bouncer respectfully declined. Very classy!Cover was $10. They take Venmo, which was nice. But thats about $1 for each minute we stayed. It was so crowded inside, we could barely make our way to the one bar. We left after 10 minutes.VIBE: Divey bar that wants to be a nightclub. Way too crowded on a Saturday night with limited ventilation. Not really much art to speak of, despite the name. A few people were trying to dance, but too crowded.MUSIC: Varies by DJ, but usually something fairly basic / throwback.AUDIO/ACOUSTICS: College frat house level audio quality.DRINKS: Beer, wine, generic mixed drinks. Cocktail menu did not impress. About $12 each for mixed drinks.FOOD: None.COVER: $10 on Sat nights.
One of the greatest bars of all time—period. Consistent long-standing music theme nights, high-quality art exhibits and installations, great neighborhood atmosphere, friendly staff from the front door to the bar and back, and some of the best DJs in SF ❤️. Pick a night—you can’t go wrong at Madrone.
One of my favorite spots in SF to catch live music. Always a good vibe.
Small bar smells like b.o. cover way to high for worlds most BORING dj. Definitely caters to the older crowd so if ur not 50 don’t go here
I loved going there! The place was super cool with awesome art and drawings on the walls! The bar is pretty small though so it can get very crowded later at night. There is live music or a DJ almost every night though which is so awesome!
Great drinks and barpersons... too bad the 3 big screen tvs playing baseball games ruined the ambience.. is this an art bar or a sports bar... ... . the wedding soundtrack music completely sucked as well.. bad disco that they called motown.. would have been nice to see some obscure vids on the screens and hear something more lively like Norwegian death metal... was bored after about five minutes. come on, give me some arsty music at least to go with the theme..
The live music was really good, it was just way too loud for the small space and it was hard to have a conversation. I thought there would be more art but other bars in the area have more. Not a whole lot of space to sit down.
My only beef with this creative bar is that Motown Monday is actually just live disco DJ samples of soul tunes. They dont play original 7 inch vinyl or even the original songs at all. Thus it should really be called Disco Monday. Still fun. Still good drinks. Definitely not Motown.
Madrone plays throwbacks like no other clubs. Love it
Great open social space with arcade games and awesome bartenders. Its all decked out for Halloween now. I used to play the bumble bee arcade game here with my friends when I lived in the area.
Bang on one of the best bars in San Francisco for the past decade plus!! From Mowtown Mondays to their offbeat music theme nights and an amazing low key dance floor, Madrone is it! Get there before 9:30 because the line gets long and its a fairly small bar.
Nice decor, not too loud, great cocktails
The place to go for letting loose, dancing and having fun. The atmosphere was great esp the live music.
5 stars for Madrone Art Bar! Awesome vibe and super friendly staff. My wife and I went to the open mic on Sunday and were treated with a variety of acts from comedy to hip hop - that may or may not have been me 😅Perfect place to soak up some local flavour and culture. Highly recommended!!
I wanted to like this place but the bartender never greeted me even while cashing out the guest next to me, serving guests who came in after me, and assisting other guests who had drinks. I ended up sitting at the bar for awhile before leaving without being served. It wasn’t even that busy. Not cool.
My first time visiting. I really like it. The bar tenders are Awesome! If youre not much of a drinker like me, Katherine is sure to recommend something you will enjoy. She has extensive knowledge about the drinks they serve. The featured art is great. I was told it changes every month as well as having live bands in weekly. So its a good way to get some culture and chill with friends at the same time. As an artist myself, I cant wait to have my art shown here.
Monday Night review only - we went out on a Monday to say we did it and went to a bar out in North Beach which was supposed to be popular. They maybe had 15 people in total. We come back towards Hayes valley and try out Madrones for their Motown Monday. 5$ cover and it’s packed to the brim - we’re squeezing by people at 11pm on a Monday. What? In that sense, 5 stars if you’re looking for a packed spot on a Monday playing fun music. That said, the music was not Motown. Maybe it was earlier in the night, but if that’s what you want, you’ll be disappointed past 10pm. The demographic was also >75% thirsty men and we had a lot of annoying interactions. You’re warned. The MC also kept warning that someone was stealing wallets/phones and picking pockets. Thanks for the tip, but of course I’d prefer if that wasn’t the scenario to start with.2/5 atmosphere5/5 for being packed on a Monday
Good atmosphere. Music on an early Thursday night is quiet enough to hear other people without shouting. By 10:30-11 dance floor starts up.
Always a great time on mondays night
Bouncer was not letting my family in, took long to get in, 20+ minute wait,
Guy got mad cause I didnt know I couldnt bring in outside alcohol during an open mic. I do it at all the other open mics. And instead of being like sorry can you finish that outside, thats not allowed he gets angry and tries confiscate my bottle and ban me from the place. so I finished it and handed it to him. I think he was upset cause he saw me, a woman, engineering my music for performance tracks. Haters. 0 stars.
The owner is a vocal community leader and Madrones absolutely has the vibe to match. Witty tee-shirts and graffiti around all the time. The bartenders are always cool but dont mess with them. Live music sometimes, usually (very good) locals. The patio gets slammed on Friday nights, so show up early if you want something heated...
Horrible gin tonic, but coooool place! $5 cover
Nice people, good beer and the drinks are strong 🥴👍🏼. Live music and good vibes. You can stay inside or sit outside and enjoy a good talk with your friends.Clean bathroomsThey prefer cash $$$.
Easily hands down the best cocktails in the city here in this hidden gem! The bar is a mid-sized, shabby-chic bohemian, very comfortable and relaxed. Of the four house cocktails I tried all turned out to be both excellent recipes (distinctive and well balanced) and perfectly prepared--and I tried all three bar tenders. Prices are very reasonable, and they sell bags of chips. They have art exhibitions on their walls. The evening I went they had a beautiful video installation. I definitely plan to return.
Such a cool spot! a bar i’m constantly thinking about. definitely recommend the herbie hancock. genuinely the best cocktail i’ve ever had. the new wave haircut is super good too. they had trainspotting playing on the wall until a super good jazz band started playing. they also have all gender bathrooms. best art bar ever
Good bar if you’re trying to go dancing. It’s pretty crowded but the music is good and the decor is unique. They charge cover at the door ($15-$20) but they take Venmo
Went there for Monday dance night... I dont remember if it was this fun pre pandemic or if its the hope that everything is returning to normal (ish). The music was incredible, the vibes were out the roof, and the DJ, the DJ uncover dance moves i had not seen in a while... The only recommendation i have is DO NOT order the squirt gun drink, as a Mexican i tell you, you will look like a fool. The burro drink was my go-to alternative
Really neat art and a decent drink list. Fun place for a Friday night. Its cash only and theres a $5 cover fee, so bring cash with you. The bartender was pretty rude, to the point where I didnt want to tip him and I didnt end up ordering another drink.
This is a really cool bar, with a wide selection of drinks, cool decor and fantastic music if youre lucky so keep an ear out. I had a great night here
Its a dive bar. I mean, its probably a 5-star dive bar. But do dive bars even want 5 stars?? These are the questions that keep me up at night. The tunes were great, I had a blast, the beefy security guy was actually pretty good banter, and theres an ATM right inside the door. So it does what it does fairly well. I think 3 stars is probably the sweet spot for this place. The Old Fashioned I had could do with some improvement. But I wasnt going to complain, I was perfectly satisfied. It did what it was expected to do beautifully. The bar, and the Old Fashioned. Life is beautiful. Oh, ok fine, Ill give it four then. Happy? Yes.
They have live music on Wednesdays. It was very good. Love the vibes and people were having fun.
Great little bar at the corner of Divisadero and Fell, only a couple blocks from Alamo Square. Theyve got some draft beer options, but the cocktails have the starring role here. Last time I was in, the were playing Labyrinth on the big screen, which earned them extra points from me. They also generally have a DJ bumping some decent jams. Just a cool neighborhood watering hole.
Very nice art, cocktails were awesome and the wait (for a party of 2) was really fast for a Friday night. COVID - You can order food from any place which is great, and there was mostly good social distancing with the tables. Will def come back!
I love playing and hanging at Madrone. Been coming here since 2004. The perfect example of whats left of old San Francisco.
Good drinks, showed up on Sunday night jazz. Good seeing young people listening to proper jazz. Solid!
Funky little place off of Divis where all sorts of people hang out - the crowd had some older couples, college kids, etc. It gets really crowded on a weekend night as the evening goes on and I believe theres a cover after 9 PM. Honestly, the cover didnt seem worth it so I was glad I went in before they began charging. They had a broad selection of beers on their menu (~$5) but cocktails ran a little pricey ($10). if you like to dance, they have a small dance floor and some fun themed music on different nights. If you want a quieter place to talk with your friends and not get consistently bumped into, this is not the place. Overall, fun stop if youre going to several bars but probably not a destination.
Went to see a dj for 90s night and it was packed. Music was great, drinks and service was stellar.i wish the other patrons would be more courteous to those on the dancefloor and not be lawn ornaments. They were rude and obnoxious.
Bar was essentially okay, but security was a disaster, honestly. They closed the bar down 15 minutes before official closing (after me and my friend had just gotten a $7 beer each). Before we could even try to drink it security took them and threw them in the trash, I was shook. They yelled at us like we were in a boot camp for nothing - Never again.
Went on a Monday evening for drinks and what started as a pretty chill bar feel at Madrone ended in a crazy dance party...on a Monday! The drinks are wonderful. The only reason that I hesitate to give 5 stars is that its cash only, theres a cover on the weekends, and seating is not a plenty. The drinks though are remarkable.
I’ve been to this bar many times in the past and it was great. Past couple of times the service has been really bad. Please don’t make your customers pay a cover, eat the cost of processing fees, then treat them like poorly. Tonight I paid a cover and bought a drink for myself and a friend. Three times the bartenders asked us to not stand where we were standing (near the wells for some reason). The first two times we acquiesced, the third time the bartender asked us to move somewhere completely away from bar because it was a “dance bar.” “But, you know, do what you want bro.” 😒
The bartender on Jan-4 was rude, not too smart.I had a group of 3. About 2 minutes later, one individual dude cuts in front of me at the bar. I cut back in. We wait another 5 minutes, the bartender starts to serve the guy who cut. I politely interject, “we were here first, can we order?”Bartender says, “Well, he’s one, you’re three, so I’m going to serve him first.” And gave me a scowl, as if I’d done something wrong.Personally, I don’t see why it’s better to make 3 people wait 1 minute than to make 1 person wait 3 minutes. That ain’t a tiebreaker. First come first serve is the tiebreaker. Also, as a bartender, you’d thinking serving drinks and processing the bill for a batch of people is more efficient, with more tip potential. But we’ll remember to break up into groups of 1 to get noticed next time for our watered down Jack & Cokes.I get that customer service is non-existent in San Francisco. The bar’s aesthetic is cool, but all I’ll remember is the rude, unintelligent bartender who serves watered down drinks.
Pretty cool bar with only about 2 complaints.1) It only accepts cash which is a pain because it gets pretty busy and you have to fight your way through a sea of people to get to the ATM by the entrance.2) The bartender who looks like a wannabe punk rocker is beyond rude. We went with a group of about 8 and every single person had a bad experience with him.To sum it up, I liked the crowd there, like the music, but will never go back for the simple fact that the bartender was so unbelievably rude to all of us.
Absolutely great place. Went there on a Wednesday night and they had an amazing jazz band going (sax, Leslie speaker keyboard, etc), and the beers were great. I suspect this will become one of my usual stops.
Amazing staff and great music! We came to listen to Jae Stix & Baycoin Beats jazz-soul band. Me and my girls had the time of our life! Now were looking forward to their next appearance.
Solid bar with different themed nights most days of the week. Great for gatherings. Many times I have showed up and people have ordered pizza in. Fun for dance parties and the changing art installations are always something interesting to check out.
Fun bar...but if you dont play original Motown how do you expect people to know what Motown is???? The people here are in their 20s and 30s...Its 90s Disco...how sad!!!....Motown has so many greats Aretha, James and Stevie to name just a few!!!Instead you hear music from the 80s & 90s Disco!!! Dont promote Motown music if youre not going to play Motown....OMG...I just heard Aretha!!!Now back to MJ!!!
Went here for Motown Monday, while the vibe was a bit flat at the start it really picked up the later it got. In the end, it was packed with a great vibe of everyone dancing. Great bartender, however additional bartenders could reduce wait time.
Madrone-when you want to have fun in the neighborhood. Unpretentious and cool simultaneously. Friendly staff. Good drinks. Live music some nights. Motown Mondays is the best dance party in the neighborhood.
The best DJs, bartenders, and staff. A shinning star in the snooze fest that is SF night life.
Right on the corner of Divisadero and Fell streets. I almost missed it because all the noise was contained inside. They had a real musician playing a real piano singing real Elton John songs at happy hour. It was fantastic. As the night wore on it transformed into a typical loud, and extra dark, bar. I got bored and left. I liked it because the crowd was a more worldly demographic. Definitely an over 30 crowd.
Stumbled upon live jazz sunday, groovin vibes, no cover. so cool seeing neighborhood musicians all file in to jam with the band
Different shite every night, different energy too. The staff is great bummed Mia moved to la and I lost her number, oh wait never got it damn😏. Mondays its packed, Tuesdays hit or miss but those that do show up are cool people. Other nights not familiar enough with to comment. Oh not really my idea of art place, its more like art of a dive bar
This is a fantastic bar with great music all the time. Cover is cheap, $3 for a packed 🏠 Motown Monday. Cool hip hop then jazz on Sunday nights. Other cool music there parties. Check out their calendar.
One of the best woman to men ratio. Usually always nearly 50/50 which is crazy its almost always more 70/30 or more (men being the higher percent always). Some nights its actually more woman then men which is usually unheard of for any bar or club. Wish I knew about this place when I was single! Lol. Great live music too.
Cash only. Fun place to come on the weekends. Every first Friday (I think?) of the month is Prince night, so that is fun to experience. The line has never been too long to get in, either. They have a pretty good drink selection.
Not really worth going to. I didnt have to pay a cover charge, but I still felt cheated. The drinks were expensive, and the bartender was cold. Its a bar for a specific kind of person. I dont know what that person is, but its not me. I didnt feel like I belonged there, like I was trespassing. We left after 10 minutes.
Drinking on the street in-between two gas stations makes me feel 22 and broke again. I know that once covid is over we will be allowed back inside, but damn, that nostalgia is a drug. Staff here is just the best and bend over backwards for you. I hid a beer in the bushes outside, if you find it, take a sip for me.
Too loud, not tasteful. Not my scene.
The best tiny bar in SF? It might be! Always great music. And good vibes
Cool spot with lots of refreshing character. The bartenders are awesome and theres plenty of street parking. If you havent tried the Czech Pilsner (on tap) then your missing out.
Madrone is more then a bar.. its a family affair.. everyone that goes become friends. Its a place you can unwind and dance when its a party night. MOTOWN MONDAYS hands down the best day to go.
You can use baksheesh if you need to cut the line at this place. They have a calendar with a great variety of theme nights. I was here for the Prince and Michael Jackson night. Such a fun crowd and stiff drinks! A rum and coke will run you $8, and theres usually a $5 cover.
Pretty crowded on a Thursday night, and found that people were a bit more hesitant to dance than the music invited (maybe it was just the night/time I was there).I like the space a lot, and a pretty large bar in the back. The music was super fun dancing music, too.The location is awesome, right on the Wiggle (if youre by bike) or Divis (if youre in the city).I would definitely check it out again, its always pretty busy and have seen big linds on the weekend (rightfully so - michael jackson night!)
Casual bar that turned into a great dance party. Caught the end of the Olympics while drinking a beer and then before I knew it the place became a dance floor! Lots of fun and nice to transition to dancing without having to go anywhere.
Easily one of the best bars in SF, all the bartenders rock and make incredible drinks. The barbacks are all incredible. And the live music is always great.
Terribly packed and everyone was pretty ugly
I went here for the live model sketch party on a Tues evening. The vibe here is comfortable, friendly and creative.Bar service was nice and pleasant.Thankful to have an establishment like this in my hometown!
Great place for entertainment, booze and atmosphere. Along the Fell St bike route, so perfect pit stop for the Daily commute West.
The house Hammond B3 organ trio at the Sunday night session is killing!!! So is the entirety of local talent that comes out to sit in. Not to be missed if youre a jazz fan!!!
Cool space filled with art and good music. Different music genres play throughout the week and different artist are exhibited from time to time. Good beer selection and great bartenders make for a cool fun time.
Terrible experience. White bartender lady with brown hair who worksWednesday nights was extremely racist and kept questioning my group’s ID’s aggressively. Whoever hired her should seriously question her employment and her ability to work
Felt so welcomed here. Photo booth at the entrance drew us in, massive dog at the bar made us come closer, super cool chick bartending kept us there, the amazing locals trying to sing or recite poetry didnt even feel ridiculous...its like a modern day cheers.
A MUST if in the area. Very enjoyable night. Love every minute. Great choice of drinks and plenty of entertainment
This is a fun dive bar with a great menu of cocktails and decent music and art on the walls. The bar is big and the bartenders are fast. Five stars all around !
Apparently, Motown mondays is really only from 6-8, otherwise its 20 seconds of My Girl, mixed in with a whole lotta hip hop. Gotta say I was a little disappointed with the size of the dance floor too. Maybe thats the norm for the city, but only go if you dont mind dancing in one place.
Dive bar feel + art shows + good place to bring a fairly large group. Lowbrow meets philosophy of aesthetics = quality time
Great drinks at a fair San Francisco price and a fun environment. Good djs and good live music. Busy on Mondays and weekends and pretty chill other days depending.
My favorite bar in SF! Tge people are really what make the place. The owner is extremly friendly and full of stories about amazing artists and poets. The art changes but the nkt as frequently as its patrons. Highly recommend if you are cool and or weird. If youe just a normal average non art loving person you may find it juat satisfactory in ambiance but the coctails are still to die for.
This bar is fantastic! Great drinks and awesome low key vibe. Contrary to the photos, they dont have food though. You can bring in your own food.
An art inspired cocktail bar in the heart of NOPA with imaginative drinks and an ever rotating display of art work. Be aware that it is is cash only which can be a pain, but definitely worth on Motown Mondays or Prince vs. Michael Jackson dance nights.
Madrone is a very hip bar with music, art and themed nights throughout the week. Although not a huge bar, Madrones walls are covered in cool and changing art pieces and projects. They have some really well made specialty cocktails as well as all the standard ones. Cocktails arent cheap but reasonable for what you get. Definitely a fun place to check out if you are in the neighborhood.
Every night is a new experience at Madrone. From Motown Mondays to bluegrass nights to 90s hip-hop, Madrone truly offers something for everyone. If you want to impress your date order the seriously dangerous Steve McQueen and you two can get tipsy on bourbon soaked cherries while you dance the night way.
I felt threatened by one of the male bartenders after a misunderstanding. I was feeling generous and wanted to buy a complete stranger a drink when they (the stranger) decided to be greedy and get a double while I was getting singles. The bartender was not even trying to understand what I was saying. I felt like I was going to get physically assualted (by the bartender) so I left the bar. Nothing like this has ever happened to me for $6 worth of Jack Daniels...
Dive bar with a cover charge. Can be sardine like packed. Has a small area to dance. Dont understand why people wait in line for this place. Good drinks but not cheap.
This place is awesome inside. Kind of small, but rad. The art hanging around the walls and stuff is very original and one of the reasons I like going there. They also like to play live music on Thursdays I know for sure.
If youre into the 20s scene, go here. If youre into the 30s scene, you may be SOL, unless its not Indie Dance Party Night. I would say, I like all of the beers on tap, etc. I think id go back here and wear not so casual attire, like a suit and jeans. More a flannel or an odd British Look. eh, just come with your A game, but dont over do it!
Felt taken advantage of. Overcharged for drinks and charged a cover charge that wasn’t posted anywhere on the website. Nice art on the walls.
Enjoyed great live jazz. Wasnt crowded. There wasnt any cover tonight. They checked for vaccination, which is great.
On Mondays they have Motown music. Very fun atmosphere
Madrone boasts a solid beer and wine selection, quality cocktails, and unique entertainment with a comfy corner bar vibe. We stopped in on a Sunday to find local artists playing a variety of music with (presumably) the owner serving as emcee. Every seat was taken, but we were able to quickly grab drinks and catch a few acts while a black and white film played on the projector. Definitely a hipster friendly atmosphere, but the room was packed with a diverse range of people. One thing to note...the signage isn’t great, so look for the open door on the corner and a foyer plastered with flyers.
We left our Visa Card there last evening and have tried to call all day and this evening. They NEVER answer their phone.EVER. Even says that on their web site! So you have to email Michale, REALLY? Even in an emergency? Very unprofessional and we wont be back. We will have to stop in and see if they still have it, what a pain. Wont ever be back.
Amazing dive bar. The art is well...erm...out spoken. Im not an art person. I wont sit here and try to say anything about it. But the vibe here is tied all together with the art. It was beautiful.
Great music and good people. It gets packed on weekends but expect to have a good time dancing and drinking. There is cover and a long line on weekends after 11.
Not sure why these place charges a cover (usually $5) cause its just a bar. They have a tiny dance floor and its usually packed. That said, for a bar, its a cool place to spend a weekend night.
I waited for half an hour in the rain. No one was dancing when I peeked inside. I eventually paid $20 for myself and three friends ($5 cover) and the bouncer wouldnt let them in. Trash. Never going back.
First time at Madrone Art Bar.... I loved it! I didnt have the password but they kindly let us in. I will definitely go back and I will have the password next time.
Prince vs Michael ... recovering music addict. Bar keep is quality attentive and responsible. And fun of course ... one bathroom per sex is a bit of an issue but you could always just pee yourself freely.
Motown Monday is a must for anyone looking to get over a long Monday slump. Cocktails are tasty, music is classic & the artwork on the walls will keep any newcomer entertained for hours.
Do not come here. I do not want to see you, the customers are elite, college & yuppies. Stay away. )The Music at at Madrone Art Bar & Lounge is.. FABULOUS. if you wanna , just go somewhere else,,,,,,but MADRONE HAS IT!
Brian Fishler is a cute drummer and the drinks are good.
Cash Only dive bar with good DJs and dancing on certain nights. The dance floor happens to be in front of the toilets so take care of your toilet needs before arriving.
This place is always very hyped and high energy of people. I go here on motown mondays. Its always crowded and always fun people encourage you to dance and get down here. One of my favorite places to go to Monday nights.
Best place to go dancing on a Monday night! Super friendly staff, average priced cocktails, and fantabulously talented deejays providing amazing tracks for our dancing pleasure!!!
Best bar in SF. Go to spot for a good time with high energy after 9. Shout out uncle!
Hey there at least is some art on the walls.. other than that its just like any other dive bar in SF.. its not an art gallery like the name implies but after a few drinks and some live music we didnt care much.. tho were still not sure what makes this dive an Art Bar LOL!
Me and some friends went here for a birthday party and they were super nice to us!
A Great Art/Music Bar in the mid part of town @ 500 Divisadero @ Fell. Sundays event Spikes Open Mic is a wonderful showcase for local musicians.
Been a staple of the city for decades now. High quality DJs and bands. good vibes always
Came for new years. Very crowded, no dedicated coat check. Drinks are just ok but I recognize that speed has to take precedence over quality on a night like nye.
Awesome bar for a late Saturday night. Often great music and a good diverse crowd. Bring cash though, the bar doesnt take card.
Great Atmosphere, Fun people, If your not having fun here your not going to. Maybe all you need ia a smile and a good drink from the great bartenders.
~Motown Mondays rock at this spot! If you arent hip, let me hip you to it. Go here Monday evenings for the coolest Motown DJ mix in the City. Its whats up!👍~
Motown Night is cool. Friendly folks.. Fun time
What can I say? The golden deer head with guns for antlers. the Burberry AK. the Mortons Assault girl. Mickey Mouse on the cross sporting the bling-bling. Motown. Boogaloo. Salsa. Prince. Michael. 80s. 90s. fringe. Lenny Bruce, the biggest goddamn dog on the planet. I could go on. but by now you should get the picture. this place is spectacular. this place is spectacular on a stick. deep-fried spectacular.
Great bar with amazing art.It gets a little too crowded sometimes though, and the DJs can be hit or miss
Delicious strong cocktails, relaxed jazz bar atmosphere. Went on Halloween and had a great time 😁
CASH ONLY. Bartender was great and drinks were excellent. Be forewarned, the art bar hosts drawing classes with nude models some evenings, so be prepared for that.
Motown Mondays are the best. Great DJ, great vibe if youre looking for a fun spot on Mondays.
Chris the day shift bartender makes amazing cocktails, super cool guy!! Love this bar for the cocktails, the music lineup, and the clientele!!Cheers!
Great spot, super chill and the jazz artists we saw were amazing! So talented
Super chill little bar. A little bit of a dive but full of character. The drinks were about as expensive as you would expect. Service was solid. Would totally go back.
Good drink choices and plenty of potential but marred by incredibly slow service, cash only bar, and a lady playing piano that flat couldnt sing that was way too loud.
Motown mondays was nice n busy.. always good vibes here.
Always a great a spot to listen to live bands and dance the night away!
Really wanted to like this place and its grungy art vibe... But tbh its not all its cracked up to be. Disappointed by the aging staff, clientele and performances. This place *used* to rock.
This place is a great local venue to find a fun event Monday-Saturday. Get there early! It fills up before 10:00pm almost every night. Saturday and Friday, fuget-about-it
Great drinks most deffenately do know how to mix drinks and bar tenders serve in a very timely manner and I was watching them not once did I see them flub up a drink. Thanks for a great much needed EXPERIENCE guys.
Great local bar, often has live music or DJs.
Can not compliment this place enough, its the most funky place Ive ever been to, its like stepping into mo town from the 60s, i went on a Monday, the venue and the people had alot of soul
Great jazz on Sunday nights!
Motown Mondays is the most happening place in the city on a monday. I wouldnt party anywhere else on a Monday. Definitely check it out if your in in the city!
Excellent venue; clean and bright!
Live music most nights. Fun, diverse crowd. Pleasant staff. Unique art installations.
Yes! Love this place for a good drink or to shake a tail feather at on one of their dance nights. And the machine gun deer. Cmon. Whats not to love!
Amazing band for a Thursday night! Happy crowd and excellent bar service 👍👍
Love the music and diverse drink menu here. Great crowd most nights. Neighborhood spot.
Such a fun funny place. Croud was so chill and packed! Great for dancing and felt totally safe. Loved it.
Great dancing spot! Ridiculous lines and doormen with questionable integrity. Otherwise, love it!
Amazing Live band on Tuesdays!!A bit of effort for the cleaning of the toilettes would be appreciated.
Quirky neighborhood art bar with excellent entertainment and stiff cocktails!
Nice venue, easy crowd. Live music while we were there.
Really fun spot with fun drinks and good bartenders. Only reason Im giving 4 stars is because the crowd can be unruly sometimes.
Really cool spot. Creative and delicious drinks served up to dope beats and stimulating art! Must go
Fun dance spot with reasonably priced drinks. Usually crowded in the weekends, but not absurdly so (you can still move/dance).
Great, Playoff Game was on and the DJ was fire kid was doing his thing and oh almost forgot there is this cool as Dog just roaming the floor it was great
What a cool spot. They have wonderfully crafted and unique cocktails. Had live music which was a joy to listen to.

High quality music even during the week. Absolutely will be back
Always great music, vibe and drinks
Nice and friendly spot. Great place to grab a drink when youre on the Divisidero crawl.
This place looks like a beer hole test they make a good Sazerac. Stick around for the live music.
Horrible! Its posted that its free, but theres a $5.00 cover charge, theres no room to 💃 omove,
Cool bar with a decent sound system and a cool crowd, the events dont always live up to the hype of the description.
Great socially distanced parklet with live music most nights. Tasty cocktails and draft beers too.
Mondays like you’ve never seen anywhere before. MoTown Mondays are the best.
Walked in, sick of the bourgie bs of San Fran, asked for the bitterest amaro they had, and was treated to great convos, great beers, and a great time. Will def return
Motown on Mondays. Every Monday from 6:30pm-2am. Live DJs Spinning Motown Classics, Remixes and close relatives.

A wonderful time filled with progressive art and great music provided by Howard Wiley and Extra Nappy wednesday nights. Must go.
$$ yet very cool. Drinks are great, art is entertaining and DJs are always on point. Hip place to hangout.
