I had the WORST experience at this bar. The guy at the entrance was super rude. We’re not from here, and we got a drink at the bar. The bartender first gave us a regular cup, then switched to a plastic cup when he saw we were leaving. I wasn’t analyzing it much, but my friend went out of the bar, and I followed him.I wasn’t trying to break any rules, and when the guy from the entrance saw me, he said, “Oh no, you can’t do that.” I immediately went back in and apologized. That’s when he literally pulled me, grabbed my drink from my hand, and threw it in the garbage. I’m like ??? “Why did you do that? I just paid for my drink. I’m sorry, I didn’t know.” He then starts screaming at me, telling me to “go somewhere else” and “you are not thriving,” among other things.Seriously, what’s wrong with this service?!? Why in this would would he even touch me? Mistakes happen, and not even a cop would have treated me like that! I feel totally disrespected and discriminated against. This is unacceptable, and I need a follow-up on this incident.
The door man at this location should stay home. He is there to ruin peoples night and think hes the deal. Lol wow. We aint getting disrespect from a freaking door man. Ahuh ahuhn. Bye Felicia 👋 look all our 1 star rating. Your door man has been doing a great job every week 👏
Staff was incredibly rude to my friends and I. Apparently that kind of behavior from bartenders is pretty common at this bar. Don’t go here expecting a safe or good time. Plenty of way better bars around Castro as well to spend your money on.
The manager, Michael, had the audacity to come over and shush my friend and I while we were having a good time conversing because he wanted to talk on his cell phone behind the bar instead of going into a back room. It ruined the mood and atmosphere of the entire bar.
Michael (apparently the manager or owner) RUDLY told my friend and I to shut up. We were having such a good time and he totally ruined the vibe. The bartender was so nice tho.
Favorite gay bar in SF. Love the back patio. Always a great crowd of people. Fun on Sundays
Great local dive bar!! LGBTQ+ friendly and definitely where most of the Castro locals find themselves for a drink and meeting new people. The patio is definitely a nice place to sit and very fun vibe! A must go when you are in the Castro!!
Great drinks, fabulous atmosphere, and good nooks for conversation!
Everyone at the mix does a great job there. Especially the female bartender there she is very good at her jobeasy on the eyes too.....
Strong drinks, good music, I love that theres the outside part in the back. I wish they would rennovate the bathroom stalls though 🤔
What a pleasant way to end an emotional day. Stopped in late on Monday night (12-18) after seeing the Jinkx and Dela Holiday Show and the bartender Patrick was a delight. He was prompt and welcoming. Strong cocktails, kind words and his friendly smile meant the world delivering a sense of belonging, and he wasnt even aware of the tragic events of the day. My father passed earlier in the day after fighting with cancer for nearly 2 decades. Thank you Patrick and the Mix for helping to make it a day to remember, always! ❤️🧡💛💚🩵💙💜
Being in the Castro for the first time and enjoyed the service I had here, I am really disappointed with the people weve encountered at the bar on Friday 10/28 at around 11pm-midnight. When we were in line to order drinks, we stumbled upon a gay couple (one Brown and one white) and told us passive-aggressively that the line is at a different area because they work here (they have connections with the bartenders). They went on to verbally threaten us as they continue to be rude to my friends, especially a POC woman, and as we were about to leave, the white man goes to the bouncer to tell them they should not come again when we did not express vitriol nor anger back towards them. We simply came in to have a fun time with a drink but that experience really wasnt the vibe when there are gays that are clique-y to bring such a power trip/authority to everyone.
Not friendly for young gay women. Went in there and before we even said anything the bartender was rude. I said I was thinking about what I wanted to order and she was very upset about that. That atmosphere was so horrible me and my friend left before we even got the chance to get our drinks. She was so rude throughout the whole experience and we were just trying to have a nice day. Went to the bar across the street and it was super fun, the bartender was really nice and I was really glad I left this sh1tty bar.
I went with my daughter and her girlfriend to have a drink.i will never go back.they was so rude.made us feel very uncomfortable. And the bathroom, well lets just say Ive seen cleaner ones at a truck stop.never ever going back.
At the Mix! I live in SF and Santos the bartender is amazing! Made sure we were having a great experience! Besos
A fun place to gather with friends! I love the staff ( especially Sloane, Buddy, Eric, Todd and Charlie). The owner is Larry and hes a nice man so I like supporting this watering hole. They have a great patio, however the cigarette smoking out there is awful for non-smokers. All in all, I love this neighborhood favorite! ❤❤❤
Its my favorite neighborhood bar not in my neighborhood. SF changes rapidly, many new places every time I visit. This has been a consistent favorite through the years. Not the hippest or fanciest, just a great bar with very nice staff and a patio where I always meet friendly people. Cant wait to come back ❤
A very fun place! A back bar, a front bar, with lots of room to hang out. The back is open, so smoking is allowed, but everyone was polite about it. Drinks were a good price. I had a mixed drink, bought one for a friend, then switched to beer. Floors in the back were wet, and the bathrooms were basic, but it was a good time.
We used to visit the Mix all the time when we lived in the City, and it still feels like home when we go back. The staff are fantastic, the drinks are well poured, and the ambiance is perfect for a range from night out to a lazy Sunday. Throw in the pool table and lovely back patio and its not to be missed.
Friends and I were visiting San Fran from out of state this week, and wanted to experience the gay scene here. We were refused service because the bartender thought our IDs were fake. The bartender said “go anywhere else but here”. Its a shame they refuse service to people who look young, even if you are of age. Dissapointing as this was the first bar we visited of the night.
Great place to go when you are a male, or with men. Horrible services for women. The worst bartender is manny, ignored us for 1.5 hours. And got mad bc I made a rude comment. I’m not sure why he is always so angry to all the customers. But he is so friendly to men. However. There are a few very kind bartenders, that usually work in the back.
Visiting friends from out of state and this was our first night in town. We went to dinner and this place was recommended to us. The guy (named Eeric) waited on every man around us before he even acknowledged us(we are women) then we ordered, before we could get the third order in he walked away. When he (Eeric) came back he rudely said well could u have not ordered all your drinks together? Worst customer service I have ever experienced considering I have been in the industry for 15 years. We literally watched him wait on everyone else around us. Do not go here unless you are a gay man or man at that. My wife and I were super disappointed. Go somewhere else and don’t waste your time here. Also they need to lay off the drugs while working
Amazing staff here really makes this place stand above the rest of the many bars in the neighborhood. This bar has a good sized outdoor patio which is usually packed on a warm sunny day. Good draft beer selection and reasonable prices.
When you walk in, the low ceilings and cramped bar feel rather unwelcoming and claustrophobic. But follow the daylight to the back of the bar, and you are greeted by an open patio with friendly bartenders and heat lamps. Truly a welcoming SF bar, anyone and everyone convenes here. You are allowed to smoke on the patio, and happy hour prices are pretty rocking. See ya there!
Cool cocktails. Nice place to have a drink
One of my favorite places in the Castro. The patio is the best. I guess smokers and those who like them have more fun. You can easily spark up a great conversation and meet interesting people here!
Nice local bar with a large back patio usually full with smokers :( but still nice. Ive billiard take inside and an AMI Hi jukebox (for those that have the AMI app). Good selection of beers on tap and in bottle and good bartenders. Two bars, one inside and the other in the patio area.
Good place to meet friends for a drink. Don’t expect glitz and glamour, but that’s part of the charm of this place. Good selection of drinks, patio area out the back for when the sun’s out. $3 frozen margaritas on Tuesdays - who can refuse?
The Mix has not had a pool table for quite a while. Its still a very good bar, but I dont go to it anymore because I like to shoot pool.
Great place to go. Small main area, nice size patio for a bar in sf. Music choices are from 80 90s and now, all remixed for club dance. Beer prices are good, drinks can be pricey. Very crowed fri sat nights and sun mornings to afternoon. Usually have to wait in line to go in fri sat nights but thats not uncommon. Watch ur step floors can be slippery. Only 1 bathroom so u might have to wait awhile and wipe down the seat if u need to sit down its prob wet.
There was no where I could stand where I wasnt in someones way. If you enjoy drinking in places that feel like a crowded disaster relief tent, this is an excellent choice. Also, the bathroom stalls are clearly visible to anyone passing by the bathroom on the way to the back. You can see people pooping.
2/25/21 The only reason my friends and I had a good time here is bcuz the lady server. The other server, a 50 something guy with a jacket with a Pikachu on the back of it 🙄, was absolutely rude with no provocation on our part.We were leaving and I went to pay for our drinks. He saw that I pressed no tip (I prefer to leave a cash tip) and said “no tip!?!?!” Then proceeded to flip out on me and THREW my card on the table. My friend confronted him bcuz he was not going to deal with such horrible attitudes, specially when all you are trying to do is have a good time. When my friend confronted him he was becoming even more irritating. I was not impressed at at all specially since this place came highly recommend, my disappointment mainly comes from this guy’s attitude, he is lucky that the lady server was a delight otherwise he would ha e been right, there would have been no tip(cash or otherwise). For my first time here from Seattle I am very so disappointed. I want them to know that the lady server is carrying the whole establishment on her back. I so wish I had gotten her name. 😩😩A message to her. Thank you love for the fantastic service! Oxox
New to the city and checking out the nightlife. Told all they had available was outdoor seating and then two groups of 3 were taken to tables inside before I was even able to order a drink. Terrible first, and likely last, impression for this place.
Wife and I thoroughly enjoyed cocktails here yesterday afternoon! Drinks are stiff and the service excellent! Will definitely go again when visiting The Castro!!! Thank you!!!
The neighborhood bar is correct. Its a super divy bar. Ive been here twice mostly because my friend practically lives here. If he ever reads it he knows who he is.I like it though. Its low key and friendly. The outside patio area is nice. Be prepared for smoke!Drinks are cheap too
$11 for a strong margarita is a deal
Small bar with an even bigger patio. The patio is even nice when its raining or cold. 2 bars. Very laid back and relaxed bar with an unpretentious crowd. Bathroom is gender neutral. Drinks are strong. Ask for nightly special.
Me and my buddy ordered Blue Hawaiian and Long Island drink and the bartender literally just service someone else so we left. The energy there isnt comfortable for the fact that there was sign of refusing us for no reason or that we dont belong there?
Warning to travelers. The bartender is very strict to the Covid19 vaccination. Im from NY and have the Excelsior Covid19 vaccine proof . I vacationed to SF and forgot to take a picture of my card when I left NY. The bartender declined service because my NY State Excelsior app didnt state proof of the first date of my vaccine. I didnt make a big deal. I just said its fine. And left to another bar that did accept my states digital vaccine proof card. Take precautions when coming to this bar. Be prepared as this place is strict.
Rarely leave without chatting with someone or seeing a friend.Attentive and kind bartenders.Great back patio, if you don’t mind smoke. My go-to in the Castro on any night of the week.
Not glamorous. But very friendly crowd, not full of stuck-up pretty-boys (although there are sometimes boys who are pretty). The downside is that people come here to DRINK. I mean, I know its a bar, but the consumption here is fast and furious. Or, maybe thats a good thing?
I love this place! They have both indoor and outdoor bars! The bartenders are very friendly and they serve you drinks real quick! Definitely one of the better bars in the Castro!
Squished into what may have been a basement or garage, with low ceilings, music videos on a few small screens, strong drinks, always busy, and a weird and wonderful smoking patio with a second bar. The crowd is young-ish, with a broad cross section of all kinds of folks, and drinking seeming to be the driver ahead of socializing. Clientele appears to be primarily San Franciscans.
A great spot to start the night. Mostly friendly crowds, a back patio thats outdoors but covered, pool table, and a bathroom sign thats been my favorite since I was a young queerling. Drinks are stiff and cheap, and so are the men :P
I spoke to Erica and set up my appointment. She was so helpful and answered all of our questions. My wife and I were worried about it but she explained everything for us and was perfect customer service and results. Thank you so much guys to make my wife happy!!
Very nice shirtless bartender. Good prices for drinks. Love the fact I can play my music through the jukebox! Via app.Friendly staff.
This is the best bar for striking up a conversation with a stranger in the back while smoking a cigarette and enjoying the strongest and cheapest drink in the Castro. Neighborhood dive bar, lots of friendly and chatty regulars.
Didn’t get to spend much time here but the place is nice, good crowd. I’m also very surprised to see the back outdoor area, very cute and it’s such a bonus! Definitely coming back to spend more time here!
This bar is my absolute Castro fave. Im visiting SF for the weekend and so far MIX is where its at. Strong drinks and great atmosphere. Cant compete.
Great drinks and friendly staff. The crowd was fun and had a great night with the stop here. (I have been to a sister bar to this in Tacoma Washington).
Fun bar, grand aul outdoor area out back. Drinks were reasonably priced.
Great restaurant-club ruined by the bad service and expensive prices. As soon as I paid the checked they rushed us to leave the place probably to give the table to another costumers but thats no the way to handle the current customers that were consuming in your establishment
Fun atmosphere to goto with friends. Small inside bar with a pool table and a slightly bigger patio in the back area. Come here with your friends and order the margarita.
Very loud and packed. The idea of the backyard open space sounded great. But it turns out that is a smoking pit and its so gross.
Every last saturday night at the mix they have Gameboi night. Gay asian friendly 18+ clubs. Music very good, drinks affordable and easy to find parking.
Fun bar. Great drinks. Patio out back was nice for a sunny Sunday afternoon. Friendly crowd.
Great environment with an outdoor patio that does tend to get crowded. If youre not a fan of smokers, stay in the darker indoor area.
Great neighborhood bar with string pours on cocktails. Can be very loud inside. Outside is quieter, but expect smoke!
Great local bar with fun atmosphere and bartenders Ryan, Greg and Sloane. Opens at 7 am. Best bar in Castro.
I love this place , the backyard with the bar is super chill and layed back has a great house party vibe alot of the times.Great place to chill and have great drink 😆
Nice neighborhood bar with a pool table.Drinks are cheap and staff kind. Good time on a sunday night
I want to love this place but too many smokers outside, too dark and dirty inside, and the bathrooms are so so nasty. The bartenders are great tho.
The name of the place is a perfect reflection of what it really is. Nice people, but avoid the outside place, at night, if you are not a smoker.
Accused many times for dancing awkwardly, kicked out for same reason. I am a brown man and I have been kicked out multiple times be they dont like how I dance. All bouncers are white and they always let in their white friends
It’s a nice neighborhood place to chill and drink. It attracts a nice crowd and the back patio is a great place to chill.
Not friendly and to my dismay like a few of the establishments in the Castro area, after a drink or two with my black friend they deny us from having any more but if I go without him no problems and that goes for a few bars Thats all on that block
A vodka cran here is a cup of vodka and ice with one drop of cranberry
My ABSOLUTE FAVORITE bar in SF. My home away from home. Cheapest, strongest drinks in the city, and the best staff.
Great place for drinks they have an open outdoor patio if you like to sit outside prices are reasonable.
This is one of my favorite gay bars in the city. Nice patio, cheap drinks, fun bartenders.
They are terrible for service. I don’t even know how they count people. They let two parties of four people in and we are only three. You seem to have to know someone from the bar to get in. Worst experience at gay bars.
Awesome non pretentious neighborhood bar, has a great patio for smoking and mingling.
This is a cool spot. Good deals on drinks, friendly staff, and all around a great vibe!
This is probably my favorite place to hang out and have drinks with friends. Heated patio outside and you can smoke, whatever you want.
People were nice and friendly. The average age is maybe over 40s and they were playing 90-00’s music
I gave this place a 5star rating at first but now Im going to have give it 2stars. Pickpockets and shady patrons. Beware coming to this place alone.
Its nice that they have a patio in the back but it can get pretty smokey from cigarettes.
Great place to hang with friends to relax, watch a game or Rupauls Drag Race - a nice Gay bar
One of the best places to go in the Castro. Excellent bartenders and back patio. :)
Awesome place for RuPaul on Thursday and pool every night. Pool is great even at 6 AM!
I met a guy here that I was in a relationship with for 5 years. I also met a guy here that I called the police on to get out my house. Anything can happen at the mix!
Would give it a 4 or 5 but theres so much smoking on the patio it takes the fun out of just hanging out.
Great patio. Would have gotten 5 stars if they stopped the cigarette smoking.
Fun spot but very tight when a lot of people. Bartenders were busy and kind of had attitude
Great bar with an awesome back patio. Staff was friendly and quick.
Bartenders can be snooty and so are patrons depending on who you know, love the pool table and the patio!
I always love going to this place. Amazing prices on the booze and wonderful staff!!
So Much fun. The drinks are sooooo strong. The bartender Mike is the best.👍🏾👍🏾👌🏾🍻
Best bar in the Castro for LGBT people who do not fit the mold and their friends.
Friendly bar with big choice of drinks and good service
Gay bar in Castro . Neighborhood client. Popular hangout. Lots of energy. I like going
Crowded and dirty, especially tyhe patio. Not too bad on week days, drinks r affordable.
You would never go here past college age if it was a straight bar lol it’s like a college bar from the Midwest
Not trans-friendly. My transgender friends always get ignored by the bartenders, while everyone else gets served.
Probably the best bar to go out in San Francisco. It is true to its name, very diverse!
Great bar. Love the patio. Just a tinge run down.
Nice place but too crowded and barely anywhere to sit, but good in general!
Busy diverse great staff and crowd. Video music smoking back patio.
Cool casual spot. HAPPY HOUR is packed wall to wall.....Great service and good music
Great small neighborhood bar. Cheap drinks and patio.
I like to hang out here for a good beer with my friends in Friday night
Opens early, seriously mixed crowed, fun. Saturday morning Buddys Story Time
Really nice people, great beers selection and affordable drafts.
Friendly staff. Cheap drinks. Usually crowded but thats what makes it fun!
Gay bar , but totally friendly for everybody7usd the cocktail full of alcool 😋
Ive never been more disrespected by a service member in my life. What a shame
Always fun, early laughs that can last the day if youre in the mood.
Low key bar with great patio area outback. Cash only.
Great patio, cheap drinks, chill crowd.
A neat dive bar with pool and TVs that plays 80s, 90s, and 00s music videos.
Love it. When it rains they pour $2 bud light draft
Nice neighborhood bar but smells a bit
VERY unfriendly bartenders with an attitude. The racist tension is very alive there.
Cool low-key local bar with good drink prices
My favorite neighborhood bar. So close to home I call it my livingroom.
Nice strong drinks and friendly staff and customers.
Nice outdoor area, strong drinks!
Was in town for 1 day so glad I stopped in! Great drinks!
Stiff Cheap coctails, always a friendly crowd with back patio for you smokers.
Very friendly service. The Latino barristo is hot as hell
Great place to chill in the patio and smoke!
Poor taste in music, annoying crowd and smells like puke
One of the best patios in the whole city

Such a fun bar!
The drinks are really strong. Like, really. And cheap.
You can smoke in the back, yes, that too....
Most friendly crowd in the Castro.
Not a place for women
Good for smokers, place is small
Its tip cool nice people
Make sure you see the courtyard bar.
Musicals, dancers, and Thursday night drag show.
Best little bar in Castro
Great home bar!
Watched RuPauls and it was FABULOUS!!!
Lovely sunny back deck.
Cheap but not a very fun crowd
Always good drinks!

Friendly and friendly gay bar with a diverse clientele of all ages. Its nice to find places like this
Nice location with a larger outdoor area where you can smoke. There are two bars and the crowd is mixed.
One of the busiest in SF, patio is fantastic, good drinks, good prices.
