This place is awesome! Blueberry pancakes! Their drinks are amazing with interesting takes on margaritas, bloody Marys, gin n tonics, and creative ideas. They change things up a lot so their menu is never the same which is good to keep things fresh. Their food is delicious and the setting is in a quaint cottage style home with many rooms. You will love this place. Stop by and enjoy!
Ate brunch here for Easter. It was fabulous but also so much! It was a price fixe menu with 3 courses and fresh squeezed orange juice or mimosas. The first course was a large house made cinnamon roll with icing and two different amazing flaky cornmeal biscuits. The second course was a versatile buffet with everything from kale salad to fruity scones. The third course was an entree that we could pick. My daughter ordered the most delicious lemon ricotta pancakes with a blueberry compote and I ordered shrimp and grits (my favorite dish) but we were way too full to eat them so we just took them to go and ate them the next day. Sooo delicious but so much food!
I enjoyed everything about this place. The avocado toast was delicious, the potatoes were special with the seasoning. The French toast…. Amazing! 🤤 had a cappuccino that was well made just as is. They also have two kombucha flavors. For two people with tip we spent $80. We went for brunch on Saturday and there was no wait for a table, plenty of inside and outside seating. The staff is so friendly. Highly recommend!
The food here is remarkable and I’ve eaten here for years. My family wants to go there every time they visit me and I don’t even live in town anymore. I’ve had the hot and iced vanilla latte as well as a London fog tea latte, lemonade and hot chocolate with homemade marshmallows. All delicious. I love the soft scrambled eggs dish. Lemon pancakes are to die for. My mom’s go to is the shrimp and grits. So many flavors! The bacon I suggest skipping. Almost every time the service disappoints though. For all the years I’ve been going here. Four stars because of that.
I recently had the pleasure of enjoying brunch here and it was excellent. We sat outdoors and the ambiance is perfect for a leisurely brunch. Indoors looked a little more hectic. The food was impressive; we all enjoyed our plates and there was a good variety of menu options that satisfied everyone. You can’t really go wrong here - recommended!
This is my go to spot for breakfast/brunch in downtown Santa Barbara! The service is great- the staff is friendly and patient and the wait (if any) is reasonable. The food is INCREDIBLE!! The cinnamon roll is large and oh so yummy, so if you have a sweet tooth, I definitely recommend it! The buttermilk biscuits are also really good, so it’s worth ordering the sampler and trying those out! My personal favorite is the dirty fries with the poached egg- it is very filling (I never finish it, haha!) and flavorful! This place has a cutesy and intimate kinda cottage vibe as well.Overall, I would definitely check this place out if you’re looking for breakfast in downtown SB!
Mixed reviews here - Kerry, at the bar, offered fantastic service. The menu, medium in size, was out of about six items. Not sure what management is doing but they need to get it together. Food was decent. Brussels sprouts were different and a miss in my book but gave them credit for trying. Grilled Salmon tacos were fantastic with the right flavor and texture balance. Ingredients were fresh. Kale salad was average with three shrimp. Beet Chocolate cake was interesting and worth ordering to try it out. You can’t taste the beets but it’s dense.
Delicious breakfast, nice staff and great ambiance. All the dishes were really flavorful and unique. Dirty fries were awesome, ricotta pancakes - excellent, shrimp and grits - great. Cinnamon rolls - so good. Only thing I could go without was the biscuits, they were pretty dry. Signature drinks were good too.
An excellently placed little bistro in the heart of Santa Barbara set in a cozy courtyard. The menu is filled with history and sustainable excellence. We chose a multitude of tastiness. The open faced biscuit sandwich, green rancheros, endless summer scramble, strawberry French toast, and the Scarlett cheeseburger with dirty fries. Everything was superb and amazing portions! Definitely bring your appetite.
We had a late breakfast here on a weekday. I liked the biscuits and the location is great-restaurant has potential. There were issues with the service being all over the place and disorganized and the eggs were not cooked properly. Our server was nice and was trying to keep up, but I think they need more staff. The toilet in the restroom didnt flush and the environment wasnt very clean or tidy. I would go back if there were increased staff and attention to the facilities.
This place was nice for a lunch, but seems like I will have to try their breakfast. If you are looking for a non rushed nice place to sit, eat and talk this is the place. I would say the pretzel was my favorite part and will go back to get a drink and pretzel with friends next time. This place is tucked away and I would not of found it without a friends help.
First time visiting Santa Barbara and I found this place via Google for best places for breakfast in Town.Service was slow to start but picked up once we were seated. They were already getting busy when we showed up. Its not a huge place but seating is snug unless you sit in the bar area. Got out drinks ordered after waiting a bit as the waitress tended to the newer arrivals first for some reason. Ordered our food upon delivery of our drinks and our waitress started to warm up now. More help arrived and our drinks were topped off and food showed up shortly after. Everything was delicious! They have the best thick cut bacon ever, just saying. I didnt get a photo of that sadly. We legitimately considered getting a side order for the road lol.Its definitely that beachy chill vibe you can expect from most coastal towns. We totally got the Santa Cruz vibes here. ;)Everyone was friendly and warmly sent us off. A must stop for casual fare and they also have a patio for sunny days.
The food was so fresh and delicious. The service was fantastic, friendly, and helpful. I wasnt sure what to get and they answered my questions and provided suggestions. So satisfying and the seating is inside and out, but the outside is shady and within a beautiful courtyard. Surprisingly quiet, absolutely loved it!
Scarlett Begonia is a cute place in the middle of courtyards off of State Street in Santa Barbara. We had brunch here and were seated quickly despite it being fairly busy. The space we were seated in was fairly small and very early on, the staff member clearing the next table kept touching his butt to my body when clearing that table which was not necessarily the first “taste” of the restaurant I wanted. Despite that the rest of the experience was pretty good:They brought us an amuse-bouche of house made granola with Greek yogurt. I love any restaurant that gives an amouse-bouche…even if I can’t eat it or don’t like it, it’s cool when one comes along. My wife had the 2 egg breakfast substituting avocado instead of meats. This also came with fruit. She said the gluten-free bread was delicious. It also came with delicious homemade strawberry jam that was not overly sweet.I had the Endless Summer Scramble (not on the menu as of this December review of our summer experience there…their menu changes seasonally which is what you want with a restaurant.) It was also very good and came with French arugula, leeks and Gouda. Both our dishes came with the same potatoes although one was labeled peewee potatoes and the other was labeled green potatoes. That was a bit confusing though in the end I guess comforting that we werent missing out on a particular kind of potatoes. The eggs were not exactly soft scrambled as stated though they certainly werent over cooked.I also had a biscuit which was pretty darned good. (I’m a biscuit snob.) It was also served with that homemade jam and butter. It was definitely a legitimate, southern, generously sized biscuit. The butter they served it with was unsalted, but the table came equipped with a little little container of finishing salt which we applied ourselves and made the difference in terms of the taste we were looking for.As a sort of sequel to the amouse-bouche, the check came with pieces of house-made brittle for all. That was also awfully nice although that brittle definitely stayed with my teeth the rest of the day. It wasn’t quite as crunchy as other brittles Ive had but tasted good.We had an overall good experience and would definitely would come back for the food (but not so much for the contact with the contact with the busboy’s butt.
The service was absolutely terrible. This time we dined with two server friends that thought the same thing. Our server was crista and from the beginning her attitude was trash. We were given one wrong menu and she just snatched it out of my hands. From the moment we received our food we never saw her again up until she handed us our check, at no point did she check on us once. We then waited over ten minutes for her to pick it up to which point we just went inside and handed it to the host. The host had better service. The food was decent, could have used more flavor. Not worth the service in my opinion since we were also one of 3 tables there.
Came to this place as recommendation. We did like it. But unfortunately the service was terrible. Had to ask for refills and every thing that should be part of drinks and food condiments. I had the Shrimp huevos rancheros as pictured. The cinnamon roll was very good. Most likely due to bad service we wont be back.
Lemon ricotta pancakes have a wonderful sweet lemon flavor. The blueberry compote and ricotta are perfect complements. The 2 egg plate is the perfect combo with the right amount of food. Their mascarpone French toast is good but not outstanding. Our server was helpful with narrowing down our options, but I do get the impression that the service here is casual because I ordered a plate I didnt get (but also didnt get charged for) and I was waiting a while for someone to pick up my payment before I decided to go up to the cash register and get it taken care of there.
We had a delicious healthy & artistic brunch complete with scrumptious pastry from Deux Bakery! The setting was quiet, in a beautiful courtyard with flora and succulents adorning the fountains! Unhurried, relaxing, and the lavender latte so comforting! Perfect start to our day! We want to try everything on the menu & will certainly be back! My favorite was seeing the beautiful snap peas smiling back at me in the silky endless summer scramble & sharing the light as a feather almond croissant with my hubby!
I sent an email for the afternoon tea a week before the event. I didn’t get a reply so I called. I was told sorry we are sold out , when I told her I had sent an email she honored the reservation and I went with my granddaughter and was sat by a closed door kinda weird but they were nice. The food was average the scones were not tasty , hard, cold … the sandwiches average anyway , it wasn’t great but it wasn’t terrible
Quaint little restaurant with free parking directly behind it. You can eat inside or out. Service was good, portions were large and delicious, and I asked them to cut a banana nut muffin in half, butter it and grill it and they were happy to accommodate (it was warm and delicious). I would recommend as a great little breakfast spot downtown.
Adorable little place. Charming patio. Dog friendly (they get their own menu!) Excellent food, wonderful service.
We had to Bubbly Brunch (three course meal with endless mimosas, coffee, and teas), ate out on the patio with our dog, and were very happy and full when we left. The scones and cinnamon rolls were exceptionally tasty. We had several different flavors of mimosas. Everyone loved what they ordered for breakfast with the exception of the avocado toast (slightly plain presentation compared to all the other dishes we had. Not over the top like the other choices). We had a large party of 9 and we felt the servers were very attentive and all the food came out together. Highly recommend.
If someone asked me how The perfect breakfast would go, I would basically describe this brunch. Buffett apps to hold you over, unlimited drinks with mimosas, juices, coffee, whatever you want. Then come the entrees. Never knew a crab cake and Hollandaise sauce went together so well. The bacon was thick cut n perfectly cooked. I ate this 4 hours ago and my mouth is watering right now thinking of it. The shrimp on my huevos rancheros blew my top, and then came the deserts. I may have died and gone to heaven and just haven’t realized it yet. Service was awesome, our girl knew what was going on and she had the mimos a pouring. It did hurt the bank account, but worth it!
Definitely a locals place for brunch. Limited hours so get there early! If you want indoor seating, be there before 1pm. Cinnamon buns sell out quickly and are the local favs. I ordered the turkey meatball sandwich with dirty fries. Skipped the bread and just devoured the dirty fries and meatballs. Dogs allowed and its a very cozy place. Reminds me of a French cafe with lots of conversations in a sunny courtyard.
I love the menu and setting of Scarlet Begonia. However, our server during our last visit was just ok. She was pushy in getting our orders in when my friend had dietary restrictions and was trying to make the best selection. & later on, our table and the one next to us had missing sides/items and we had to remind said server. Also food runners and servers were always dropping fresh items but never collected any empty dishes on their way back into the restaurant (we were on the patio). Overall a nice place, but service is lacking compared to the price point.
Came here for a quick breakfast on our last morning in Santa Barbara not knowing that this place is very popular. Our server highly recommended their famous cinnamon roll since it was featured at the Food Network. I also had the shrimp chilaquiles. All are super yummy and a must try. Get there early before they open if you want to get seats or make reservations ahead of time.
Food was great.Employee conversing with customers with a mask (technically on, but) dropped down below her mouth was lame.We opted to take our food to-go instead of spending time at an establishment that seems to take a lax approach to mask guidance. No -- this wasnt a brief, gotcha moment, their conversation continued exactly as pictured for the better part of our ~20 minute wait. Without politicizing anything, this puts patrons, other employees, and outside dinning at risk.
One of my favorite brunch spots in Santa Barbara. Although the prices are a bit higher than I usually like to spend, the food is definitely worth it so we will treat ourselves every once in a while. The restaurant is charming, both inside and outside. Blankets are available if its a little too chilly on the patio. The food explodes with flavor and is made with noticeably quality ingredients.
Our favorite spot for brunch in Santa Barbara. We love the use of fresh ingredients. We never feel bogged down after a brunch at Scarlet Begonias. I love the huevos rancheros and the iced lattes are amazing, probably my favorite in town. The pastries from Deux are amaaazzzing. I bring everyone here who visits and suggest it to everyone.
The staff were friendly and efficient and most of the food was good. Try the orange juice it was amazing!! However, the baked goods, which is why we went, werent as great as expected. Parts of our cinnamon roll were cold and my maple bacon biscuit was so over cooked it was basically inedible. Would definitely try again.
To start- I’ve worked in restaurants as a server/bartender for the past decade…. I’m giving this place two generous stars. I went here for Christmas Eve brunch with my family. We made reservations ahead of time as I hear it gets busy here- it was empty though. We ordered a coffee, two bloody Mary’s (basil and lemon pepper), dirty fries appetizer, biscuit sampler appetizer, the rancheros and the soft scrambled eggs. Appetizers came out after about 2 minutes, and the entrees arrived about 5 minutes after that. I mentioned that we had JUST gotten out appetizers, and we had no drinks, and the busser just kinda looked blankly at me and set the food down in the table. I heard our server yell at us from across the restaurant “drinks are coming”. I was completely finished with my entrée before my drink arrived. The bloodys were extremely vinegar heavy and we did not even get past a few sips. I hate feeling rushed out of a restaurant. Food was ok, not worth the price of 15 plus per entree. Drinks were horrible. Would not come back. I expect better service at some fancy downtown restaurant!
This place looks amazing and is always busy...it should be good, but tried twice and both times were very disappointing. The perfect looking soft scrambled eggs online were not soft at all, well overcooked. I was only impressed by their bread, which it turns out, isnt theirs, its from a nearby bakery. Great atmosphere, but the service wasnt great.
Amazing food and service. Never write reviews. This is my first one, but needed to take the time to spotlight how great this place is. We ate here 2 days in a row. Get the coconut parfait for sure !
This place is a gem! The food is fresh and tasty. Cinmamon roll melts in your mouth. Strawberry jam is incredible. Eggs and sausage was seasoned nicely. Service is attentive and friendly. Atmosphere is cozy and not too noisy. What more could you ask for?! Hats off to the chef!
The first time I ate here everything went well! But this Sunday I called the restaurant, waited 20 minutes on hold, arrived at the restaurant still on hold and the hostess didn’t even realize she had someone on hold. the coffee came after 15 minutes of ordering it, the meals arrived cold (eggs Benedict) and the staff were arguing with one another creating a chaotic and disharmonious atmosphere. We couldn’t wait to leave. This place has so much potential: great ingredients, nice mission, great location, nice decor, comfy seats. The team needs better training on creating a harmonious dining experience and not turning in each other in times of stress. And the food needs to be hot and timely.
Brunch was really good. Would return if we lived in Santa Barbara!
Literally the most delicious food ever. The price is great too at ~$30 per person. It tastes like it should cost ~$60. Ordered the rancheros, French toast, and dirty fries. All were amazing. Highly recommend the lavender lemonade.
Consistently terrible service - so disappointed, because the food is yummy. Last time I was there my Kale salad had a huge black hair in it. The cook came out with a long black goat-tee. Ugh, and they didn’t even comp the dish. Please hire better employees!
After finding this place an hour later... we had to try their cinnamon roll. We were in Cinnamon heaven that I forgot to take of picture lol. Excellent customer service, love the outdoor seating. I ordered mocha latte, which I thought it was going to be too sweet with the roll, but the server promised it will not be too sweet, yes she was right! The restaurant is hidden so gps did not help much you literally have to park and look for this hidden gem. Price was well worth it. Will be coming back soon when we are in town.
I ordered the cobb salad with chicken. The chicken breast was microwaved…..tasted off as well as the blue cheese salad dressing …. Very off. The table next to us waited an hour for their food. They then approached the server as they were at the end of their patience. The owner cam e out with their food and commenced to “yell” at the customer. He was also griping that his “help” wasn’t showing up…… no wonder.
Love this place. So good. Only reason 4 out of 5 on service, is its so busy you have to wait. But the wait is worth it. One of those places where every dish that goes by the table, you kinda wish you ordered that. The new digs have way more seating, but theyve brought a similar ambiance to the old courtyard space
Been here maybe 8 times over the years, between both the old and new locations. Just went again today and just loved the “Green Rancheros” dish I had. This place is solid and a notable restaurant for breakfast and lunch in Santa Barbara.
We had a memorial brunch at the Scarlett Begonia. The service and food were amazing. The service was unobtrusive, but there when we needed it. The food was fantastic. Those deviled eggs? Omg so good. The lemon ricotta berry pancakes? Yes please may I have some more? Delicious. Parking was right in the back.
So delicious! Ordered the egg scramble. Such wonderful flavors. Side order of buttermilk biscuit - so flakey! Thick cut bacon. Our waitress was very attentive and didn’t steer us wrong in our food decision making (: will be back when visiting!@sinfull_sweets
Love this place!!!!! Excellent food, nice atmosphere, dedicated service! Definitely try to Farmers Market Special dinner on Tuesdays ($35 for three courses + a cocktail). Its different every time and always delicious. Also, dont leave without trying one of the amazing brownies for dessert. They are TO DIE FOR. Always a favorite place of mine! So happy they have expanded to dinner service!
Great service, and very attentive staff! A very intimate patio area, with plenty of shelter from noise and wind, made for a great dining experience for a party of 5, to enjoy looking at beautiful stained glass windows next door, as well as a nicely decorated patio. Well be coming back again to sample more from their menu. Highly recommend: dirty fries, and bacon smoked smoked platter with roasted capers....wonderful! And that was just appetizers! Main courses do not disappoint. We had a wide variety of dishes, that everyone enjoyed.
Really enjoyed our experience this time, too. The servers were attentive and very helpful. Seating on the patio was lovely, and the primarily organic food selections were delicious. Well be back again
I liked everything here. The service. The ambiance & the food more importantly. I think every meal is well made with great ingredients. I was hoping for a bit more creativity with the menu items. With the ingredients, staff and reputation, there’s room for some experimentation. The locals seem to love this spot, and it’s understandable. I’d come back for sure.
The food is outstanding. Our server did have to be reminded twice to bring ordered food but she could have been overwhelmed as she seemed to be the only server. I would highly recommend breakfast here. Great selection and very accommodating for food sensitivities.
We enjoyed our brunch at Scarlett Begonia for my best friends bachelorette party! The service was good, we sat outside on the patio since it was such a nice day. The food was also phenomenal! Do not skip the lemon ricotta pancakes, the other reviews arent lying about them and I will definitely be coming back just for these!! We enjoyed some of the interesting takes on some popular breakfast food items like chorizo biscuits and gravy, but were most impressed with how you could take the freshness of the food!
Food was great...but service really slow. Charming spot. On a second visit, they added a $13 fee for using my credit card. Then added 20 % gratuity. I would have liked to have just one refill on my coffee, but the service was ridiculous...not deserving of 20%. We had to ask for the drinks for the children that were included with the brunch charge. For 4 adults they gave us one dinky half carafe of orange juice to split. Overall disappointed because of the price and lack of service.
I used to love Scarlett Begonia at the old location. It was lovely and small. Our experience for breakfast this morning was So disappointing. We had reservations but it took 10 minutes for the hostess to appear.I ordered the eggs Benedict, the eggs were fine but the bacon was as tough as the sole of my shoes. The place was full and so noisy that we had to give up having a conversation .Sadly, I will not go back any time soon or recommend it to friends.
Great little spot with interesting takes on breakfast and lunch fare. Homemade biscuits were flaky and delicious; french toast was outstanding. Recommended by a friend as the best breakfast in town and definitely not disappointed!Back after a few years and still impressed with the food and service...biscuits every bit as good as I remembered!
My Wife stated this was the most memorable lunch she has ever eaten. And she is a true foodie. Just great food. Original, organic and freshly made. Staff was amazing and friendly. We are just visiting CA but my Wife is asking me to bring her back already just so she can eat here again. Highly recommended!!
Food was delicious, friendly staff and all around beautiful experience! We got the cinnamon roll to start, a must try. Sorry not photos we ate it soo fast. Then we each got different breakfast plates and our plates were cleaned.Visit is well worth it! If you live in the area, you’ll probably be a regular here.
The service my wife and I received here was comically bad. Showed up on Saturday at 11:00, no reservation, after searching for breakfast on Google maps. The mousey hostess quoted me a 15 minute wait. After 45 minutes of walking around with no text message from the restaurant, we returned to find several empty tables out front. After a complaint, we magically received a text within 2 minutes. The same awful, mousey, rude hostess then led us to some sort of makeshift pandemic seating area in the alley behind the restaurant, and offered us a terrible little unstable table crammed in next to the dumpsters. I inquired about the tables out front and was given a list of outrageous excuses for why we couldnt sit there. Something along the lines of there are too many people walking by and you dont look like the sort of people we want out front because youll scare away all the good looking customers. When we balked, her excuse suddenly changed to those tables are reserved. They were sitting empty for an hour. She basically told us we were trash and we could sit by the dumpster where we belonged or leave. I laughed at her and left. My wife and I are an attractive couple of ample means. We are not from Santa Barbara and do not conform to its blandcore upper middle class retiree aesthetic. Shame on us bay area rat scumbags. Were the worst.
After hearing about this restaurant on The Best Thing I Ever Ate, we stopped in on Saturday Afternoon/Evening for dinner on our way back to the L.A. area. What a nice experience! Staff were friendly, Service was excellent, and the food? We both ordered the Cheeseburger. My wife had the side salad and I ordered coleslaw with mine. My wife claims hers was the best burger shes ever had, and Im right there with her! She loved her salad and my coleslaw was very good. We took a Cinnamon Roll to go for desert, and talked for miles after about how much we enjoyed our experience. Were already planning a Brunch meet-up with our daughter. Thank you for a wonderful dining experience! (... AND theres FREE PARKING ... or at least there was at the time we were there)
Cute place, cute food, good choice when in Santa Barbara.
POOR customer service: Just left this morning from what looks to be a lovely restaurant with good food since their wait staff was incredibly rude. I arrived 20 minutes before they opened and they were not interested in accommodating me to simply sit and read at one of their tables out in front of their restaurant while they finished getting ready for the day. They insisted that I sit on a bench at the side of the restaurant. I have successfully founded and quickly grown to over six figures five different businesses and have always featured my clients and caring for them first and foremost. This restaurant has not made that choice apparently.
The pastries are excellent. Fresh strawberry preserves. The soft egg dish is a great mix. Also had the ricotta pancakes and bacon. All done to perfection. Dog Friendly. I saw several dishes Id like to try in the future so I will have to come back often!
To start off, my party had a reservation and wasnt seated in a timely fashion. Nor were we even seated in the order that we arrived in line. Once we were seated, about 10 minutes in we get informed that we needed to be seated elsewhere because someone else had a reservation. (Remember we had a reservation). After a while we finally get to make our order. We order everything at once since they took so long. The drinks took 15 minutes. The appetizers and main dishes were served at the same time. The wings were bland. My medium burger was well done and my fries were cold and soggy. My company had similar experiences with their main dishes. Looking around, it seemed there was no one running the show. Servers and cooks alike were unorganized and we paid for it in bad service and bad meals. Kinda surprised considering the reviews but you just never know I guess. Dinner was disappointing to say the least.
What a quaint find just off of State St!PARKING: Look for the 75 minute free lots in the area or street parking.FOOD:-Dirty Fries: Yes, I have fries for breakfast. They count when you add the egg (YOU MUST ADD THE EGG). As french fries come, these are stellar. Great medium thickness, crisp exterior with a warm, soft interior. The spicy aoli isnt quite as spicy as I thought it would be, but still delicious. Add the bacon and the perfectly poached egg, and you have a one way ticket to a happy heart attack.-Shrimp & Grits: LOVED these. Generous portion of nicely cooked shrimp on a bed of fluffy grits. For those with smaller appetites, I would share this dish and add a salad or other green to break up the grits, shrimp, sausage, an egg. It can get quite heavy after a while.-Burger: Hubs had this and basically wolfed it down in 3 minutes. Delicious brioche bun.DRINKS:-They dont mess around with brunch. Come prepared with pedialyte and try their craft sodas!SERVICE: Friendly. Make sure you make a reservation on the weekends as they are quite popular.
Had the clam chowder and massaged kale salad. Unbelievably good 😊
This is one of my favorite restaurants in Santa Barbara. Im excited that they moved and expanded their hours, although Ive still only ever been for brunch. Everything Ive tried has been delicious, and everyone Ive taken here has been likewise satisfied. The staff is all personable and the owner is often there bussing tables and running food. The cocktails are also amazing! Worth the wait and the price 😊
The food is fantastic - very exceptional flavor, quality, and presentation. The prices are very reaonable relative to experience. The portions are big enough for big appetites. The location is set a level down inside Victoria Court, which is a nice outdoor cafe with no pedestrian or vehicle traffic - very peaceful and quiet. The service was excellent as well. The only negative was the hosting, which was a circus. We had a party of 8, and they did not communicate that we were wait-listed vs having a table reserved. If you have a party of 6 or more, they take reservations, so reserve, and if you want to plan, do it a day ahead. Definitely worth your patronage as a local or a traveler. Cheers.
Excellent food. A shame they moved. The previous courtyard made if feel like you stepped into Europe. Now its a tight little nook with good food. Outside patio is nice but a downgrade from before.
Conflicted about this place. Pretty expensive for a family, but Santa Barbaras restaurants have to pay their taxes after all. Much of the food is homemade and quite good. But the service from our waitress was less then stellar, so was surprised when a 20% auto gratuity was added to the check. Asked about it and was told that management requires it during holidays. Really? Should have been warned about this, and now understand why the wait staff was inattentive. Asked to speak to the manager but was told none there that day. 😖
Really fantastic food that is really steeply priced. Every bit of food we ordered was then upsold by our waitress. Oh you need to have this AND this. I then heard someone behind us order a cheese Danish and then the waitress persistently made them order the cinnamon roll instead.
Chocolate cake not a big winner in my book. Desserts could use a little help. Cute place. Love specials reminds me of my grandparents cooking in Midwest.
Service was pretty slow but breakfast nachos were incredible. Not very spicy at all, which was good. Record player where guests can feel free to play records as they pleased. I put on some Michael Jackson and my son and I danced around a bit. No one seemed to mind. Cinnamon roll was incredible.
Fantastic brunch. Loved everything about it except the guy sitting across from us eating with his mask on. Once he left though I could focus on the food and it was excellent. Bring your appetite, brunch gives you a ton of food and a ton of beverage.
Our server was so attentive. The lemon ricotta pancakes with blueberry compote are soooooo good!!! The back patio is super charming. Excellent service and elevated food. Went two days in a row while on a Santa Barbara trip :-)
Best brunch in Santa Barbara. I usually get the green rancheros AND the pancakes because you can’t pass them up. I could eat those pancakes everyday. The waiters are super friendly and accommodating. It should be noted that it can get busy and it makes the hostesses a little terse- one in particular. Although she was not there the most recent time I had brunch which made it all that more pleasant.
Went for sister birthday brunch. Customer service was really good, the server constantly kept checking on us. We ordered avocado toast, steak and eggs and French toast. Everything was fresh and delicious, definitely recommend this place.
The best breakfast/brunch spot in Santa Barbara and it’s not even close. Although on the pricier side, it is 100% worth it. The baked goods are fresh, the dishes are creative, and the ambiance is lovely.
Great food. Great atmosphere. Great in general. Only reason its a 4 instead of a 5 is because the gf toast I had today tasted older than usual and the steak with my steak and eggs was smaller than usual. That said, everything else was fantastic and this was a more rare occurrence.
So delicious. We went to visit our nephew and he suggested we go here for brunch. It was amazing! Everything was so fresh and yummy! I had a latte and quinoa oatmeal. Wish I lived closer and could go every weekend!
Very nice restaurant, on the outer edge of the historic park craziness. Not overcrowded (like the eateries closer in) with excellent food. Definitely recommend.
Cute little spot with premium ingredients. Wasn’t very busy and we were seated quickly. Food came out fast and hostess was gracious. The food was very good especially the biscuits and rolls! But very expensive for what you get. I’d come back but not very often definitely a place to treat yourself
We are from FL but design trips around this place. We have come here for years and it never disappoints. The food is truly incredible. The maple bacon biscuits are insanely good. The burrata open faced sandwich is also amazing. We love you guys.
Bring your appetite for brunch! The cinnamon rolls and biscuits are delicious as starters. And man, the loaded fries. Get them. Perfect crispiness in each fry. And I eat a lot of fries. Also the Green Rancheros sauce -- Id buy a bottle of that in a heartbeat. So much food and all so good!
Everything was wonderful. The house made watermelon limeade was tasty & refreshing. Husband really enjoyed the Green Ranchero. Great spot.
Reservations are highly recommended. We had an earlier reservation at 930am (I believe they open at 9) on a Saturday and it was packed! Luckily we were sat right away and throughly enjoyed our dishes. Had such a hard time deciding as everything looks amazing. Had the maple bacon biscuits.... yum! Steak and eggs were so good, with fresh garlic herb butter. And the item pictured. Soooo good.Note... not the best spot for those needing ADA accommodations. Tight fitting chairs and tables on the patio and lots of stairs getting to and from the location if you dont approach from the right area.
Service is the worst. From the moment you walk up to the hostess. Waited an hour almost when we were told 35 min. After the wait time we were told another 15 minutes! There was a table open. We were finally seated. Waited who knows how long before we had to ask for service. Everyone just walked by an looked but never offered service. We couldnt leave because there was no one to take the check. It was extremely frustrating. The food was good, the toast really test your jaw strength its so hard and burnt. We will NEVER return.
This place is a gem! They serve an excellent brunch that will be loved by foodies. The maple bacon biscuit is a must-try, consider ordering something from their long list of limeade drinks, and Im not going to recommend a specific main dish because everything Ive had has been delicious and the menu changes! Enjoy the beautiful courtyard seating hidden away off of busy State Street.
Truly the best brunch in SB! We had brunch here during July 4th weekend, which was two days after the CA gov closed all indoor dining again. Our wait time for the patio was less than 20 minutes. The host and waitresses were trying their best to tend to the influx of people waiting for tables and customers paying their checks. Despite the slight chaos, the back patio offers a nice refuge. You feel like you are dining in someones backyard, amongst some of the friendliest people. While we were waiting for our food, my husband and I conversed with all the tables around us. The FOOD is definitely the shining star. We ordered the Shrimp and grits, tri tip banh mi with a side of arugula salad, lox on farm toast with fried capers, dirty fries, two bellinis and two lavender lemonades. Everything was cooked and seasoned nicely. Nothing was greasy and everything was full of flavor. The dirty fries which are fresh thick crunchy fries topped off with bacon jam will knock your socks off. The shrimp and grits were so good and easily is on my list of the best grits I have had.We also purchased a cinnamon roll and blueberry muffin from the front case and were disappointed with how dry both pastries were. If you are looking to buy their famous cinnamon roll, buy it off the menu and take it to go. Our neighbor gave us half of their huge cinnamon roll and it was light and airy nothing like the cinnamon rolls they sell in the bakery case.
I had the best breakfast I have ever had at this wonderful restaurant. The food was amazing.....so fresh & we bought a loaf of the blueberry walnut bread. The staff was friendly & so welcoming. Even though I live in Orange County, I will definitely will go back.
Locally sourced, inspired food in a very nice setting. Really exceptional, especially compared with other restaurants in Santa Barbara. We had 2 great meals at here, a dinner and a brunch. We appreciated a short menu, with enough choices to meet everyones appetites. The food was interesting, but not overly complicated. Portions were perfect. Looking forward to going back regularly.
The menu items were imaginative, the food expertly prepared and delicious. The wait staff was attentive but discrete. And the prices were quite reasonable. All in all, breakfast was very pleasant.I would go back again.
Probably the best kept brunch secret in town. Ive lived here for 7 years and just went for the first time and its AWESOME. Really delicious and creative takes on classic American breakfasts. (I strongly recommend the Lemon Ricotta Pancakes or the Green Rancheros.) The courtyard available for outdoor seating is tucked away in the Victoria Court so youre shielded from the busy-ness of State Street and you get to enjoy one of the less trafficked, yet quintessential parts of Santa Barbara.
We came here twice during a recent visit to Santa Barbara. Food is excellent, especially the benedict and the shrimp and grits (if you like spice). The salmon plate was also delicious, though they oddly put the cream cheese on the plate, under the bagel. As in, the outside of your bagel arrives stuck in cream cheese, making it difficult to eat without mess or cutlery. Cocktails were excellent and coffee was good. Last, the cinnamon bun is good and makes a great appetizer for sharing, and the biscuits are tasty, though maybe lacking in flaky, fluffiness.
Horrible experience, they charge you for sides that are supposed to come with the meal. Be wary of the 20% service charge that is meant to be for parties of 7 or more but they charged us for a party of 6. The service was absolutely not worth 20%. The waitress didn’t come and check up on us. I asked for a chocolate chip muffin and she gave me a chocolate and nuts muffin. WITHOUT asking if that’s what I want. Won’t be coming here again.
The food here is incredible if a little expensive. The ham Benedict, the lemon ricotta pancakes and the cardamom french toast are absolutely to die for. They have a sister bakery named Deux bakery that freshly bakes all their pastries and pies. The cinnamon role is a staple and I get one for my husband every time we go there. The seating is inside and outside and they have lovely coffee bar offerings like the coconut mocha.
Extremely disappointed. 25% tip added, which the bartender did make an explicit point to tell us that it has been added in however it was only after my wife OutLoud said this to the other people At our table who were trying to calculate how much they owed on our collective bill and so came over and said that after the fact. 25% is completely over the top. There is no precedent for that. It should be 20% maximum as a suggested amount. Slow service, ~6 tables and 1 server 1 bartender
Waited half hour to be seated for brunch which is fine but then after being seated we were informed that they were understaffed in the kitchen and food would take longer than expected. Took nearly as hour to receive our food. Food was decent but not worth the wait and price.
Great food prepared well. The ingredients are locally sourced. Very nice atmosphere. Loved it
Lunch at the Scarlett Begonia is always a treat for me. This time a chilly breeze blew through the outdoor dining room and the space heaters were on. Even so, my friend and I almost took advantage of the nice blanket provided at each table in case of such a misadventure.Scarlett Begonia is dog friendly, another reason we like to go there. My friends large dog stayed relaxed throughout our lunch. They have raised their prices since our last visit, so we decided to split a persimmon salad - with pear, pomegranate seeds, pecans, and goat cheese over mixed lettuces - and an order of truffle fries. Both were delicious. Curiosity got the best of us, so we asked our server why the persimmon salad had no persimmons. Turns out its a misprint in the menu, and the persimmon salad is really a pear salad! As always, the food and service are excellent here, the menu creative, the environment relaxing -- a rewarding experience.
Brunch was really good. The potatoe bread cinnamon roll was unique and tasty (also gigantic). We both had avocado toast and it was tasty. Good coffee. Friendly staff.
Best lemon ricotta pancakes! I had them for breakfast 3 days in a row. If you know, you know.
Best breakfast ever. Fresh, organic local food combined into amazing, creative, unusual, tasty dishes that delight the palate. Great ambience, service was good. Cant wait to get back to Santa Barbara to go again.
My kids and husband took me here for Mothers Day. Food is scrumptious and service right on the money...however, speaking of money, it was very very expensive for what you got for a brunch. The appetizers and desserts were pretty much all you wanted to eat, but there wasnt a huge choice. Mimosas were free flowing. We each got to choose one dish from the menu. If it were $35 or $40, I would be okay with it....but it was $75 each!!!!! There is NO way any of us ate $75 worth of food and mimosa! Good...but at this price, Ill never come back.
Ive enjoyed myself every time I have come here for breakfast. Since they pride themselves on local and fresh foods, the menu can change over time based on what they can get their hands on. Some of the menu does seem to stay consistent. The wait can get long so I recommend trying to get here early on weekends.
Lovely little brunch cafe! Full coffee and alcohol bar. They also have a few menu items for gluten free and vegan. Top notch food.
Vivian was the best waitress. Explained the menu and gave great recommendations. Lemon ricotta pancakes were delicious and so were the cocktails. Kind of hard to find if you are from out of town, but worth the drive from Morro Bay .
This place is a yummy indulgence! Their ingredients are high quality and there are some great baked goods. One star off because it is too expensive to be a routine breakfast or lunch place (if entrees were 15% less Id come 4x as often)! Still, its worth it for a special lunch or breakfast, or just for treating yourself!
Fantastic place to grab brunch! Had the Crab Cake Benedict and the Endless Summer Scramble - both fresh and delicious. Also, do yourself a favor and get one of the fresh daily baked goods! I most definitely had the best morning bun of my life here.
The food and service was excellent. We had the delicious Friday night picnic chicken dinner. The only problem is they add an automatic 20 percent gratuity (for a party of six) and they dont spilt checks.
Charming location. Plated food coming out looks beautiful. Sensibility of menu is admirable. Service was pleasant but ill-coordinated, so our party of four received food at different times, including one order that was forgotten until the other three were served. The sweet foods seemed, in general, excessively sweet. My gluten free polenta muffin was tasty but heavy and so sweet the homemade jam (peach-reisling, I believe) was just sweet on sweet. I ordered a collection of three sides that came out combined in a way I did not imagine, on a too-small plate that was almost an insult to the food. The omelette was runny; I almost sent it back but we had been waiting long enough that I just wanted to eat. We wont be rushing back. Maybe when the place is less busy...
My only regret is that we didnt get the cinnamon bun. Once our food had arrived and we saw 3 or 4 of them be delivered to other tables I knew we had made the wrong choice. The bloody Mary cleared up a bit of my fomo.
This is my favorite place to dine in Santa Barbara! Scarlett Begonia is a must-do if you are visiting the city. The staff are always friendly and its location - tucked snugly in a small plaza off State Street - is lovely and relaxing. But the real goodness is in the wonderful California style dishes. It’s hard for me to go here without ordering their Brioche French Toast, which they top with a seasonal compote, almonds, or other goodness, and a hot chocolate or mimosa. Their ingredients are organic and locally grown and the menu items are changed up weekly to ensure fresh and tasty flavors. I honestly can’t recommend this place enough, and I bring friends here whenever I can.
I was excited to visit this place, but I’ll admit this was the first experience I’ve had since COVID began that I did not want to leave a tip- even for just being open and the staff putting themselves on the front line. The service was horrifyingly slow and for no apparent reason. I didn’t even have a waiter visit my table for almost 20 minutes after being seated as a party of 1, and then it took another 20 minutes to get my mimosa and then another 5 for a cup of coffee. Everything on the menu seemed overpriced and the reservation/walk-in system is weird. I suggest trying somewhere else...
They go far and beyond to get you a table and have you engaged with drinks - take your order and then they forget about you. When the food comes in, it al comes at different times. Food is good and yummy but faulty. Hamburger has SO much charcoal in it. Cappuccino is a very small cup with mostly foam from the frothing (this is $6). Lemonade is $5 for a glass of water filled with lots of ice and a thin lemon slice with a hint of lemon. They have to do better about this. Again, service is faulty. The bill took for ever to come in and when it did, it had erratic extra charges. We waited over 20 minutes for the corrections and then other 15 minutes for the card return and signature. Luckily we were in a great mood and endured all positively. Please do better next time when we give you another chance. Thanksfrothing Cinnamon rolls are VERY good, however.
Fantastic sunday brunch! Great bloody mary, delicious coffee, award-winning cinnamin roll (never knew potatoe dough could be so delicious). We had green tortillas rancheros so very tasty with delicious bacon, and a shrimp grits dish with perfect poached eggs. The service from Vivian also top shelf...highly recommend this restaurant, but do expect a 45 minute wait for a table on the weekend. Also very nice outside seating.
Great signature cocktails. The daily specials are really good. The staff is competent and friendly, and I love the dessert selection and sweets from Deux bakery.
Great service and the food was outstanding. A little pricey but well worth it. The best cinnamon rolls in Santa Barbara. They are big enough for 2 people to share.
This was cinnamon roll when I realized that I forgot to take a picture of the food. It was awesome . Smocked salmon grits with shrimp and fluffy omelet very tasty. The place is clean and follows COVID guidelines.
One the best meals we had since arriving in Santa Barbara. The service great but slight pricey. The interior restaurant was cute but we sat outside…
Had a beautiful lunch on the back patio w/a great Cucumber Basil Bloody Mary. Had the crispy chicken sandwich which tastes great with the coleslaw on it. Shade is provided so you wont get too hot.
We had brunch at Scarlet Begonia yesterday! Everything we ordered was amazing! The cucumber/Basil Bloody Mary rocked! The soft eggs with potatoes & spinach was lovely and the burger,Wow so much flavor! The dirty fries and the truffle fries were excellent! This is one of our new favorite places. We are locals and loved The ambiance!!
Had breakfast we were 6 persons. Food was average, we where overcharged on the bill. When brought to the attention of waitress she took it off. They added a 20% service charge. Was not posted anywhere and the manager was very dismissive and rude when brought to here attention.
I have lived in Santa Barbara for over 24 years, I have never had a culinary dining experience this creative and delicious. Foodies will love this place. Dinners are amazing. Breakfast and Lunch are great too!
This little gem is tucked away in a nice little spot. Everything on the menu sounded amazing. Went with the French toast and was not disappointed. The menu also changes frequently so you can keep coming here and try something new ever time!
Really lovely normal food. First decent breakfast in California. Had the quinoa oatmeal. Go if you appreciate clean raw food. :) bit pricey but worth itMost of the staff appeared really lovely and friendly :)
Ive lived here all my life and I can finally say I struck GOLD. For once a resturant that has Pride in what and how they make Fresh food. If there were more than 5 stars they deserve them, how about all the stars you see at night. We all had breakfast celebrating my sons belated birthday. When I told the server why we were there after we ate everything on our plates, she brought out a huge slice of their homemade chocolate cake. It was the BEST choc. cake that any of us had ever eaten. All the food was Delishous. This is the 1st review Ive ever written. I wasnt going to write a review for fear of letting out the BEST secret EVER but if you know how resturants come and go, well with the Quality of food and service I Know the Scarlett Begonia is here to stay. Lets all keep this resturant going, go and experience it all for yourself. Thank You Scarlett Begonia, I will be back VERY SOON.
Quaint, romantic, contemporary breakfast and lunch spot hidden in a storybook like setting within Victoria Court. The food and drink menus are creative yet very approachable. The food was exquisite and the service was exceptional.
Fantastic food. Managed seating well so that the wait was outdoors; table service was speedy. If only I lived in Santa Barbara . . .
Amazing 😊wow!! organic choices and full of flavor - excellent coffee - wonderful breakfast - the bacon so crispy and thick - this restaurant has the most beautiful court yard seating - loved the service - a must stop!!
This is a late post, we visited SB over the 4th of July weekend 2020. What a neighborhood gem! We love Erica and Vivian!! And the food, of course. We loved the lemon ricotta pancakes and shrimp and grits. Yukon cinnamon roll, maple bacon biscuits, cream scones, yum, yum, and YUM!! Plus they serve excellent coffee. So smooth and aromatic. We came around twice in a row. They use clean, organic ingredients. I have a neuromuscular disorder that makes me super sensitive to food additives. My partner has a sensitivity to rBST, a hormone derived from a strain of e coli that is injected into cows to make them produce more milk. It can trigger hormonal and metabolic problems. If you break out with acne after eating, you probably have a sensitivity to rBST. Not many restaurants provide rBST free foods and beverages. Scarlett Begonia does! We can eat anything and the foods and baked goodies are super delicious. All served with fantastic hospitality and congeniality. Also, though they dont have indoor seating just yet, if you use the bathroom you get a peek at their gorgeous interior. It reminds me of a favorite breakfast spot in Christchurch, New Zealand, called Little Poms.
Always amazing. We drove 2 hours to eat there. Worth every minute !
Great selection of food and drinks. Very relaxed atmosphere. Everything was delicious.
The decor and outside seating is really nice, and perfect when the sun is out and the weather is nice. The food was good although aren’t many or interesting enough vegetarian options (in case you’re vegetarian). A little bit pricey, and staff wasn’t that friendly.
SO GOOD!! The maple bacon biscuit is a must. Everyone at the table was very satisfied with their breakfast! If I lived closer, this would be my regular breakfast/brunch spot. Yum!
Food was fantastic, pancakes and fries for the boy, shrimp and grits for the man, smoked salmon with dill cream cheese arrugala, picked red onions and could it be... fried capers? service was wonderful, food was a bit slow, but they were packed, so understandable
Food was great, we went for breakfast so it was a little windy and chilly and our food got cold kind of fast but the service and food quality was great! They also offered us blankets if we got really cold since we werent seated next to heat lamp.
A fantastic gem in the heart of SB. Nice outside seating in a courtyard that can be a bit chilly before the sun crests the walls. So bring a sweater or hoodie. Service was speedy and friendly. On this Saturday morning, there was a bit of a wait.
Excellent breakfast option. Food is wonderful, delicious and well presented. Staff is very nice and attentive. Highly recommend.
Aside from the hostess being borderline rude, the rest of the staff is awesome, the ambiance is extremely pleasant, and most importantly the quality of the food is outstanding. This is our go to breakfast place when we go to Santa Barbara.
Overrated, expensive for the quality of food, and slow service. The waitress was not too honest about pricing, and breakfast was cold. We will not return.
Later opening, European style, breakfast nook with fantastic food and wonderful atmosphere. Just recently started expanding to lunch and dinner options. A go to spot for weekend morning special occasions, but can be hard during the week due to their 9am opening time.
They take a lot of pride being part of food network and the cinnamon roll being Oprahs favourite but the roll was undercooked, 3 plates we wanted to order werent being served that day (these could have all been told to us to start with) and the service tool FOREVER. Water, drinks, checks and food tool extremely long to arrive.
Best breakfast in SB! Service is amazing and the cinnamon roll is to die for. Be careful trying to go on a Sunday morning, it is hectic and wait times can be long.
Busy Saturday am. waited 20 minutes to get an outdoor seating. waited 35 minutes after ordering breakfast. Food is good. Nice menu of options.
Service was excellent and I loved that its dog friendly. My huevos rancheros were okay, they would have been excellent if it wasnt in a pool of watered down salsa. Nonetheless Ill be back :-)
Honestly, it was good food, atmosphere, and service. However, it was just a bit overpriced for the portion size. It was filling.
Excellent breakfast orange juice is absolutely as good as it gets. Bacon is my choice for side as it is awesome sausage was good but the bacon is much better.
This place service sucksIt is very bad, the food might be good but they surely need to up their game when it comes to the quality of the serviceIt took then 20mn to bring us our coffee which was badThe waitress was half taking our order and half looking at her phone, not helpful at allWe ended up canceling our order and leavingIt is a real shame 😔
